All right, in this movie I want to share with you a couple more creative thoughts that will help you get more out of this training. Now a little while ago I had the privilege of sitting down with Douglas Kirkland. Now if you are not familiar with Douglas Kirkland, he is a living legend, an amazing photographer. There is actually a great movie about him, that's part of the lynda.com library. If you haven't seen it, it's definitely worth checking out. Well anyway, I was sitting down with Douglas and we were talking about his photographic career and we were talking about Photoshop and one of the things that I was struck with about Douglas was that he is constantly becoming a beginner.
That kind of remind to me about getting a black belt in Karate and this is what I have heard about getting a black belt, is that you go through the whole process of learning Karate and then when you get the black belt, they hand you the black belt and they say, now you are ready to learn. And so it's almost as if it's a continual learning process. It's not necessarily about mastery and hey, you know what? I have arrived, I know everything that I need to know. But it's about continually learning it, continually growing and Douglas says, excitement for learning is definitely contagious. Another thing that I picked up from Douglas was the importance of sharing and that sharing knowledge leads to so much growth. Here I have this photograph of Douglas sitting in his living room and you will notice a number of books on his coffee table. Now he and his friends do something kind of interesting, what they do is whenever they visit each other, they bring a photo book with them and they leave it on the other person's coffee table and then take one away. So it's almost as if have they have this community library, where they constantly shared with each other the different things that inspire them and I thought, wow, how fascinating, how interesting this idea by sharing with others you grow and you learn so much.
Now another thing that I picked up from Douglas was the importance of play. Now here is a guy, he was literally a living photographic legend, and he has so much fun with what he does. And here is a photograph of he and I playing with some Leicas, and it was just really fun time. It was really fun to be around him. My last though for you is this, be prepared to be surprised. As Martin Buber once said, all journeys have secret destinations of which the travelers are unaware. Be prepared to be surprised and my guess is that throughout this training you are going to learn things that you would have previously thought work unimaginable, unattainable. And finally without further delay let's jump into some of those training. Let the adventure begin.
