This is a recording pod and I'm a trainer as such I'm commonly viewed as a means to an end. I convey information to you, the beloved customer by filming my activity on this computer and speaking into this microphone. It's commonly assumed that that's what I do, that I my recording pod or symbiotic creatures, that can not exist independently of each other. What I'm spotted wandering through the Lynda.com coridors, people regard me with terrified expressions. They ask me, how do I get out, they ask me if the pod knows I'm gone, they asked me if I've killed the pod, is the pod ok, they light torches and beat me with sticks untill I retreat back into what is commonly regarded as my host organism. Much the same can be said of selection outlines in Photoshop.
It's tempting to dismiss the selection outline as a means to an end, a way of isolating an area or moving an image element from one location to another, but selection outlines are full fledged objects, they can be moved, scaled, rotated and otherwise modified independently of the image. They can be seen wandering your compositions like the bands of marching ants we've sometimes imagine them to be roaming around in free orbits, circling the pixels and scaring them. The pixels resent it. They would like to light torches and beat the marching ants in the submission, but they can't because the ants would eat them.
But you're bigger than the ants, they respect you, they are willing performers in your little ants circuits, you can make them do whatever you want. This chapter explains how. (Music Playing)
