In this movie I want to talk about a few general Bridge preferences. To access the preferences navigate to the Bridge pulldown menu and then choose Preferences. This will then open up the Preferences dialog window and as you've noticed, this looks very similar to the Preferences dialog window that we found in Photoshop. Under the General tab here, what can we modify? We can modify Appearance, Behavior and Favorite Items. Let's start up with Appearance. Now, Appearance, what I can do here is I can actually darken the overall interface of the Bridge here. So I'm going to go ahead and do that. Well, that looks pretty good. I can then change the Accent Color. It's Default. I'm going to go to a different Accent Color, in this case, Crystal. So I have minimized the colors in Bridge. Now I kind of like that. I've neutralized Bridge so to speak.
Again, of course, you can modify this in a number of different ways. I'm going to leave that as is and then let's move on to Behavior. Now Behavior, the first option says, when a camera is connected, launch the Adobe Photo Downloader. Now if you are using Lightroom, you want to leave this checked off. But if you are not using Lightroom, leave that checked on. That way, when you connect your camera or when you connect your compact Flash card reader, it will then open up the Adobe Photo Downloader. You can then download those images and begin to work on them and view them from right inside of Bridge.
The next behavior affects what happens when you double-click a thumbnail. In this case if you turn it on, double- click Edits Camera Raw Settings from right inside of Bridge. Now I leave that off because I open up Camera Raw by way of a shortcut. I think that works a little bit better, so my recommendation is to leave that one checked off. The next option, Command-click because I'm on a Mac/that would be Ctrl-click on a PC, opens the loupe when previewing or reviewing. Now this is handy because sometimes you need to zoom in on the image, especially when you are in that Review mode. Now we haven't got into the Review mode yet, so that will become more relevant when we get there. Yet for now let's leave that option on.
Now number of recent items to display, we saw that there are two different places where you can see your recent files. I like to increase this list. Again, I like to take this up to number 30, the same number that we used in Photoshop, and that's just for me makes sense. I would like to be able to look what I have done recently and sometimes it's a quick and easy way to find a file that I've worked on recently. The last set of General preferences, Favorite Items, now what all these have to do with? We will go ahead and click OK to apply those settings and then click on the Favorites panel. Now here you can see my different Favorites folders.
Now I can change these by simply right-clicking or Ctrl-clicking and choose Remove from Favorites or I can navigate to Adobe Bridge CS4 > Preferences > General, and then I'm going to go ahead and say you know what? I don't use my Documents folder, I don't use my Pictures folder. I'm just going to turn those two off. Well that looks good and now you can see that those are now gone from this particular Favorites folder list. I have successfully modified my General Preferences.
