So in this video, I'm going to give you a few shortcuts to use when you are using the Eyedropper tools. We'll press I to begin and basic behavior is when you click on a particular color or click and drag through colors, that sets the foreground color to whatever color you clicked on. If you want to set the background color as well, you can hold down the Option key or Alt and click on a different color and that will set the background color. You can also pick a color from outside Photoshop. Let's make the Photoshop window just a little bit smaller. As long as you start to press and drag within the Photoshop window, when you move your mouse outside Photoshop selecting this web page in the background here, I want to sample the yellow of the lynda.com web page there.
Since I started the drag in the Photoshop document, when I mouse out to behind Photoshop, it will start sampling colors outside Photoshop as well. So you can see the foreground color now has been set to that yellow outside Photoshop. Then lastly, if you are in say a Painting tool like the Brush tool, and you want to be painting with this yellow color let's say and then you want to paint with a different color, you don't actually have to really switch to the Eyedropper tool. If you just hold down the I key and take advantage of the spring-loaded shortcuts, you can just click on the color that you want to start painting with. Let go of the I key and then just keep painting with that new color.
