In this movie, I want to briefly talk about customizing your workspace. Now, here I have a photograph that I captured earlier this year of the musician Jack Johnson, a really amazing guy. Because I'm going to be working on one of my people photographs I want to customize my panels so that I can access the panels and the tools and the information that I'm going to use when I'm working on my people photographs. Now, before we get to customizing our workspace, let's go ahead and navigate up to the Workspace Selector button. Here you can see there are a number of different options. When I choose Basic, what it's going to do is say, "The selected workspace will modify menu and/or keyboard shortcut sets, do you want to do that?" Sure.
This is then just going to show me a lot of these different panels in this small icon format. Now, let's go back to Essentials. Well, Essentials basically is our standard. We have Layers, Channels and Paths down below, Adjustments and Masks, Color Swatches and Styles here. What are some of the other options? Let's go to Color and Tone. Now, Color and Tone shows me my histogram, that's really important. I also have the Info palette here. That's going to be important for working with people. Then I have my Actions panel. There are number of different actions that I apply when I'm working on my people photographs. All right. Well, so far so good, this Color and Tone is actually pretty nice.
Well, I'll go ahead and click through those; I like what I'm seeing. I want my Adjustments layers, I want that Masks panel, and then I also need Layers, Channels and Path. This is almost perfect for me, except I want to add one more panel. So I'll navigate to the Window pulldown menu and choose Brushes. Yup, I want that Brushes panel there. I'll go ahead and collapse that, because I need to access some of my different Brush tools, especially if I'm going to be working on people, and it may need to do a little bit of retouching. All right. Well, so far so good. I have this workspace that I really like, all that I need to do to save this is to click on this button here and choose Save Workspace. I'm going to call this CO - People. I want to save the panel locations. I haven't changed any of the Keyboard shortcuts or menu, so I'll leave those off and click Save.
Now, I can access that simply by choosing that option here in the menu. Let's go ahead and go to Essentials, and then if we want to navigate back to CO-People, there we have it, and it updates all my panels. So one of the things that you can see here is you can take advantage of setting up different workspaces so that you can focus in on the task at hand, so that you can access the panels and the information that you need for whatever project you are working on.
