It's very important that if your image needs any straightening or cropping, that you do that before you send it off to any of the net plugins. The reason for this, is that you may want to add an edge effect to your image. And if you try to rotate, or straighten, or otherwise crop your image after you've added the effect. You'll see that the edge effect, of course, is not going to hold up. Let's see exactly what I'm talking about. I'm going to add a simple preset here, like this high structure one. And then I'll scroll down over here and I'm going to add a simple but cool edge effect. Let's add an image border that looks something like, how about that one there? Great. Go ahead and apply that.
And now, back in Aperture, we can see the completed image. But hold on a second. As you can see, this is not exactly a perfectly straight image. It looks like I was holding the camera a little bit crooked. Well, no problem, you can always straighten out the image no matter what tool you're using. In Aperture, I just grab my straighten tool, and I'll just straighten that out and get the vertical lines to align up. Well, that looks pretty good, except, well, obviously, I've lost my edges. Further, if I decided that I wanted to crop the photo. Well, once again, let's go ahead and get rid of the asterisk ratio here. Get a nice wide crop and as you can see by doing that we are obviously cutting off the edge of the photo.
So if you tend to add any type of edge effect to your image or Vignetting or anything else like that, you'll definitely want to do your straightening and cropping before you go. So let's just start this over again. Go back to the original image here and I'm going to go ahead and do the same straightening by simply grabbing the edge of this and straightening the image out and I'll also add a little bit of a crop. Let's go for a nice big wide screen crop on here something about like so. Looks pretty good. Now, I'll go ahead and send this image off to the same plugin to Silver Effects Pro 2. Now when I go ahead and add my effect in the edges to it. Let's go ahead and add the same one the high structure and then down here we'll choose the same image border type 11 I think it was. We now have the effect applied to the correctly straightened and cropped image. So when we apply it, we will of course see the straightened and corrected image with those edge effects applied to it.
Remember, this is going to be important as well if you decide to apply a vignette or any type of burned edge effect to your image. So once again, before sending your photo off to any of the net plugins, be sure that you straighten and crop your image as you want it for your final output.
