All right, now that we are actually going to start working with Bridge, I want to talk a little bit about the images that we will be viewing in the next couple of chapters. We are working from this folder 07 and 08, so Chapter 07_08_bridge. Now before we actually begin to talk about workspaces, I want to talk a little bit about how we can view our files. Now you will notice that I have clicked on this folder here yet I can't see any images. I can't see the images until I click on the engagement folder or the snow_camping folder. Now that's kind of unfortunate, isn't it? I can't drill down, or I can't see the contents of the subfolders here by default, and that's one of the reasons why I like using Lightroom. You can view your images in a way that it isn't contingent upon on your hierarchical folder structure. You can't do that by default in Bridge. Yet you can do it if you use this little trick, and I want to share this trick with you. It's one of my favorite tricks inside of the Adobe Bridge.
If you navigate to the View pulldown menu, and then choose Show Items from Subfolders, check this out. All right, we can now see all the contents of the Subfolders here. All right, well, I am in the Essentials workspace. Now in this Essentials workspace, I can't really see my previews very well. We can see my Preview panel is small, so when I click on the image, well gosh, that's not much bigger than the actual thumbnail. Well, how can I customize the workspace? Well, there are a number of different ways that we can customize our workspace. One of them is by simply hovering over the dividing line, between the Content panel, let's say, and the Preview and the Metadata panels, and clicking and dragging.
So now I have more space for the preview there. Well, let's say I want even more space. I decide to drag the Metadata panel down in the Keywords panel. I am hovering over that dividing line, dragging down. You know what? I want more space. I don't care about Metadata. Double-click the title, that panel has now been minimized; double-click it again, and you can bring it back. Ah! Pretty interesting. Same thing is true over here. I want a little bit more space, so I can see those folder titles. And I can double- click these, double-click them again to open and close. The other thing that you can do in regards to your workspace is you can actually change the way your panels are grouped. So let's say that we want to add Metadata to this group up here. Click and drag until you see that blue line there, and now that is part of the group there, and I can then click through those different panels this way. So I can customize this workspace in some really unique ways. Let's say you spent all this time customizing your workspace, and you want to save this workspace, because this happens to be one that you are going to use. So I will go ahead and minimize this a little bit further, and make my Thumbnail smaller by clicking on this slider here to make this even smaller. I want a single row of Thumbnails, okay, I like that. I am then going to press Command+T on the Mac/ Ctrl+T on a PC, and why? I just want to view the Thumbnails; I don't want to view the file name. So all right, so now I have this nice strip of photos here and I can scroll through them either by using the scroll bar, or check this out.
If you have a three button mouse, you can hover over the images, and you can scroll that way as well, and that works whenever you are scrolling inside of the Bridge, even if you are in the filmstrip mode, the filmstrip is down below. So hover over those images, using that third button on your mouse to scroll, to scroll up and down. Okay, well, so far so good, we have looked at how we can customize this workspace, and as I mentioned before, I want to save this out. How can I do that? Couple of different ways, navigate to this triangle icon here, and click on that and choose New Workspace, or navigate to the Window pulldown menu, Workspace and then choose New Workspace, and I am going to name this one chris orwig. Notice I am naming this in lower case letters. I want to Save the Window Location As Part of Workspace, and Save the Sort Orders As Part of My Workspace. In this case I am sorting manually, great! Click Save.
All right, interesting. My name is now part of the Bridge interface. Check that out. There is even a shortcut assigned with that. So if I navigate to the Window pulldown menu, and choose Workspace, we can see at the top there is my name and my name is now part of the Bridge interface. I want to point out that while I type that in lower case letters, when it shows up as a button, it automatically capitalizes it. Now over in the Window menu it is still lower case, where you got your, it's the lower case, but it's kind of fun to have something you typed as part of the interface, and in this first movie my intent was to kind of get you familiar with how Bridge works, and also get you familiar with how we can customize it, and save it out. There are few more things that we have to talk about of workspace, and we will talk about those in the next movie.
