Photoshop CS5 for Photographers provides comprehensive Photoshop training targeting the needs of photographers. If you really want to ensure color accuracy, one of the things that you can do is you can include something in the frame that you know is color correct, that you know is neutral, and that's what I've done here. I asked the athlete to hold this Color Checker chart. This particular chart is created by the folks at X-Rite. It's called a color passport. This particular device is actually really quite powerful. If you're interested in the subject of Color Checker charts and camera profiles, I recommend you do a quick Google search for us, because there's quite a bit of information about how you can use this.
Yet here all that I want to do is sample a point on this Checker Chart, so that I can neutralize this colorcast that I'm seeing across my image. Now one of the advantages of using a Color Checker chart is we can white balance one image and then apply that white balance to another. Let's go ahead and grab our White Balance tool, and then all that we're going to do is simply click on one of these wwatches, like this one here. We're just going to stay away from the black, and the white, something somewhere in the middle, and this works really well. Press the P key. Here we can see our before, and now our after, color correct photograph.
Well, if we want to then apply these settings to the underlying image, all you need to do is to choose Select All, and then click Synchronize. This will open up the Synchronize dialog and ask us what actually do we want to synchronize? Well, because we've really only done one thing, we can leave all of these check boxes selected, or because we are just working with White Balance, you could just leave this option on here. Well, in this case, it doesn't really matter. So we'll simply go ahead and click OK, and then when we click down at this image, you can now see that it has correct color.
I'll press the P key to show you the before and after. Press P once. There is the before. Press P again. That yellow cast has now been removed, and this image looks much better.
