IntroductionWelcome| 00:00 | (MUSIC).
| | 00:04 | Hi, I'm Bert Monroy, and welcome to Dreamscapes.
| | 00:07 | This is a continuation of Volume 2.
What I really want to stress is that,
| | 00:10 | everything you're going to see is
being done with very bad photography.
| | 00:15 | In fact, most of it is taken with
a phone, not a big fancy camera.
| | 00:19 | The point is that, you can do just about
anything you can imagine with Photoshop.
| | 00:25 | And what am going to use is just very
simple throw away vacation shots and
| | 00:29 | transform them into some real effects.
The effect that you can easily create by
| | 00:34 | just following simple steps in Photoshop.
Nothing elaborate, no fancy studio is necessary.
| | 00:40 | In fact, most of these things are the
kind of vacation shots you would normally
| | 00:42 | throw away. This is just
very simple steps to create
| | 00:46 | very fantastic scenes.

7. UnderwaterIntroduction| 00:00 | Put on your swim trunks for this
dreamscape because we're going to take a
| | 00:03 | little trip under water. It's
going to be a sunken ship, just
| | 00:06 | sitting on the ocean floor in an
incredible environment with fish swimming
| | 00:10 | all around it.
| | 00:13 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Selecting the boat| 00:00 | On this screen we see a boat. It's
an old boat that was grounded a long
| | 00:04 | time ago. It's not seaworthy anymore, it's just
| | 00:07 | sitting there rusting away. Well
this boat is going to be the subject
| | 00:11 | of our underwater scene. It's going
to be a sunken boat way down below.
| | 00:16 | So now were going to go in there and
select this boat and pull it out of its
| | 00:19 | existing scene. So here I'm
going to choose, two ways of
| | 00:23 | selecting, one which is the easy one
and then one which is going to be a little
| | 00:26 | more work. First one you're
going to choose, color range.
| | 00:31 | Color range, right now, it comes in and
finds a certain range right there, which
| | 00:34 | is just blue. And so now
I'm going to hold down my
| | 00:37 | Shift key and I'm going to click and
drag The cursor through the entire sets of
| | 00:41 | blues and you can see that it's
picked up all those other tones in there.
| | 00:46 | I'm going to come down and pick
up those lighter tones down there.
| | 00:49 | So I picked up the entire area
of blue. I'm going to click OK.
| | 00:54 | You see that it selected
the entire area of the blue.
| | 00:56 | What I'm going to do is add to that selection.
| | 00:58 | I'm going to hold on my Shift key and
just kind of bring in some of this stuff
| | 01:01 | that we see right here,
right off the bat so we have it.
| | 01:05 | Now what I'm going to do is
I'm going to save that selection.
| | 01:09 | going to come in here
and say Save the selection.
| | 01:13 | And I'm going to call it boat.
And I could deselect it now.
| | 01:17 | And saving selection what its done is
it's created an alpha channel which we
| | 01:20 | see right here. Now that
alpha channel has taken into
| | 01:24 | account some of the major parts of the boat.
| | 01:27 | And you can see that the hard
things that would be to go in there.
| | 01:30 | And set up by going in there and tracing
all these little banisters and stuff, but
| | 01:34 | now we get the rest of the boat to deal with.
| | 01:38 | So what I'm going to do is work
from within the same area here.
| | 01:41 | Now the parts that you see gray
here, they were very similar in blue.
| | 01:45 | Which is why they got selected as well.
What I'm going to do is I'm simply
| | 01:48 | going to paint those black. You've
seen me use alpha channels in some
| | 01:50 | of the other classes and
then I explained alpha channels.
| | 01:53 | So here what's happening is I'm
just going to go in there and black is
| | 01:55 | going to protect, so I hide those. So
I turn on to see the RGB and now that
| | 01:59 | I can see it, I'm going to
start to continue to paint it.
| | 02:04 | And then if I paint with black, I'm
going to go in there and make it black.
| | 02:08 | And in fact, what we could do is go in
there and invert this, because what we
| | 02:11 | really want to do is select the boat.
So I'm going to go in there, and invert
| | 02:15 | the alpha channel, and now we see it as white.
| | 02:17 | See there it is. So now I can
go in there and retouch just
| | 02:21 | a little bit. Like for
instance some of these greys we
| | 02:24 | can get rid of those really quickly
by going into something like levels.
| | 02:27 | And levels I can go in there, and just
say let's make those dark tones darker.
| | 02:31 | There you go see so those greys
disappeared because I brought my dark
| | 02:34 | slider over into the darkening range
which made those little areas much lighter.
| | 02:39 | See the same thing here. There's
some little strips of water back there.
| | 02:42 | By pushing the black slider in,
those were eliminated right of the bat.
| | 02:46 | And now I need to do the rest. So I
want to see those color layers on top.
| | 02:50 | So I start to paint, and I'm getting real close.
| | 02:54 | And basically what I'm doing is
kind of like doing in a coloring book.
| | 02:57 | We're going to go in here and start to paint.
| | 02:59 | I'm going to go right through this,
along the edge of the boat, just like so.
| | 03:04 | I can start to go in there and just
expose just the parts that I want of the
| | 03:07 | boat itself and go all the way through.
Now a lot of the bottom of the boat is
| | 03:12 | like it is right being covered by
land it is going to be covered by our
| | 03:15 | underwater-scape, so it not
that crucial that I get all of it.
| | 03:20 | But I do want to get the major
parts of the boat that are visible.
| | 03:23 | So I'm going to go in here and select that boat.
| | 03:26 | And I'm painting with black which
means that all of this area here.
| | 03:29 | Will be hidden. So now, to
save some time, you get the
| | 03:32 | general idea of how to get this done.
The end result is going to look like that.
| | 03:36 | Where I have my boat completely isolated
making it easy to go in there and select
| | 03:40 | the boat and pull it out of its
background so that I can then utilize it
| | 03:43 | on the water scene. And the
next movie we will start to do is
| | 03:48 | to create the underwater
scene itself. And you see up here?
| | 03:52 | See these grays? When you
stand back and you look at your
| | 03:55 | image, you definitely want to make sure
that everything, that you don't want to
| | 03:58 | be selected is in fact black. So, I
fill that area with black and there
| | 04:03 | we see that outboat is now completely Expose.
| | 04:06 | And evenUNKNOWN you need to go in there
and just get rid of some of that stuff.
| | 04:11 | But you get the general idea of how you get
the boat selected away from its background.
| | 04:15 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Compositing the bottom of the boat| 00:00 | Now that we have our boat nicely
selected, (UNKNOWN) we're going to look
| | 00:03 | at our boat, there it is, we're going
to put it into the underwater scene.
| | 00:10 | Now, I have this shot here that I took
underwater quite some time ago, I was
| | 00:13 | doing some scuba diving down in the Caribbean.
| | 00:16 | I got this shot, not much of a
shot, but it was kind of cool.
| | 00:20 | It just, I was just shooting away with
a digital camera, you can take as many
| | 00:23 | pictures as you want, as the card will
hold, so I just shot and shot and shot.
| | 00:28 | And this shot just seemed
perfect for our little scene now.
| | 00:32 | Now, I need to make this
into a tall vertical shot.
| | 00:36 | So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to
select for the background color, the very
| | 00:42 | top blue of my scene here. Now,
there's a slight variance in tone
| | 00:48 | here, very slight variance, but
I'm going to select that color there.
| | 00:52 | And then when I just clicked on this
side, you see that there is a slight
| | 00:55 | difference between the
two blues, but that's okay.
| | 00:58 | I'm going to start with this one first.
What I'm going to do is I'm now going to
| | 01:02 | give it more canvas. I'm
going to go into the Canvas Size.
| | 01:05 | Now, the reason I selected that blue
as the background is that as I add new
| | 01:10 | canvas, the canvas will take
on the color of the background.
| | 01:16 | Now if the background color was set to
the defaults of black and white, then the
| | 01:20 | new canvas would be white. But
by choosing that blue, which is in
| | 01:24 | the image as the background color, it'll
give me my new canvas based on that blue.
| | 01:30 | So, what I'm going to do is, right now,
my size of my file, it's quite large.
| | 01:34 | This is the way it comes
straight from the camera.
| | 01:36 | It's 45 inches in the width,
and 34 inches on the height.
| | 01:41 | So, I'm going to double the height.
I'm going to make it 60 inches, nice and
| | 01:44 | large, and put the existing image at the bottom.
| | 01:48 | So it'll create the new
30 inches will be up here.
| | 01:52 | So, I click OK, and there, we could see
that we've added that to the top of the image.
| | 01:58 | So there's that that color in there.
We can see where it's a little bit off.
| | 02:03 | We're going to fix that later because
we're going to add a whole bunch of other
| | 02:06 | things to this background. If you
feel odd or don't like it the way
| | 02:09 | it is now, that's okay, well, we
can go in there and fix it now.
| | 02:13 | We have these two colors again so what
I'm going to do is I'm going to go in and
| | 02:16 | throw a Gradient and throw a Gradient into
a layer right above the whole thing here.
| | 02:22 | Now, it looks to me like there's a
slight change in, in the tone here and it gets
| | 02:28 | darker here again. So, what
I'm going to do is I'm just
| | 02:33 | going to kind of throw a Gradient
going in this direction like that, right
| | 02:37 | through here. There we go.
| | 02:40 | And right now I just noticed it's
set to Background to Transparent.
| | 02:44 | We could try that, let's
just do it right through there.
| | 02:46 | There we go. That's got
a nice little feel to it.
| | 02:49 | And what we'll pick is now
this darker tone right in there.
| | 02:52 | We'll pick that for the foreground. So,
what I'll do is I'll throw a little
| | 02:56 | Gradient down in there in the same layer
because we're going from Foreground to Transparent.
| | 03:00 | So, let's just throw a little tone
right in there and see how they start to mix
| | 03:03 | together and it's starting to
give us this nice little effect.
| | 03:07 | And there's a slight little line there no
problem because we're going to get rid of
| | 03:09 | that once we put the boat and stuff in there.
| | 03:12 | And then, we're going to throw a whole
cast on top of the whole thing later anyway.
| | 03:16 | So, when we look at it, there we've
created these two little Gradients that
| | 03:19 | kind of blended in our
background to make kind of a lot smoother.
| | 03:23 | So now, we got our boat. So,
I'm going to use the Channel to
| | 03:27 | select that boat. There's
the Channel we use to select.
| | 03:31 | And I'll drag this down, so I could take
my boat and drag it right into my scene,
| | 03:35 | right there. Now, the boat is a little small.
| | 03:39 | No problem. What I'm
going to do is, I'm going to
| | 03:41 | enlarge it. Command+T to
bring up my Transform tools
| | 03:43 | and I'm going to just make it to the
size that I want, right, about like that.
| | 03:48 | You know, a little larger.
Yeah, it's a nice boat.
| | 03:52 | And I'll put it right in position where
I want it, right about there like that.
| | 03:56 | So now, this boat is on the water and I
want it to interact with its surroundings
| | 04:00 | down in here, so I'm going
to go in here in mask it.
| | 04:04 | So, I'm going to give that layer, the
layer of the boat, which we will now
| | 04:08 | call, Boat, and I'll give
it a mask. There's my mask.
| | 04:15 | So, with black, which is going to
hide, I'm going to take my Paintbrush.
| | 04:18 | Now, it's very rough down here. It's very rough.
| | 04:21 | So, I'd like to get that same
roughness into the edges of where this boat is
| | 04:26 | stuck into the ground. So, what
I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 04:30 | take my Paintbrush, and I'm going to
choose one of the Spatter Brushes, one of
| | 04:33 | these here. I'm going to
take that one right there,
| | 04:36 | the 46 because it's got some nice clumps
in the middle there so it got some nice
| | 04:39 | variety to it. Now, I'm
going to go to my Brush Engine
| | 04:43 | where I'm going to give it a little spacing.
| | 04:48 | It is facing like that. And
then I'm going to go into Shape
| | 04:51 | Dynamics, where I'm going to
bring down the roundness down to zero.
| | 04:54 | I don't want any change in the roundness,
the angle at 100%, because you see, as I
| | 04:58 | do that, you see that right there,
they are all the exact same direction.
| | 05:03 | So that is going to make
each tip a different direction.
| | 05:06 | And the sides here, we have to 100% difference.
| | 05:09 | Let's bring down that minimum a little
bit or bring it up rather so they don't
| | 05:12 | get too small there, like that. Now,
that I see what I am doing, I'm
| | 05:16 | going to bring the spacing back in a little bit.
| | 05:18 | There we go. So that it gets a little tighter.
| | 05:20 | And there, we have the
brush that we're going to use.
| | 05:23 | So now, make it a little bigger and I got black.
| | 05:26 | And I'm painting in the mask
so I'm going to start to paint.
| | 05:29 | And there, you can see that I'm starting
to get this little feel in here of some
| | 05:33 | of that stuff coming in from underneath.
So, I'm going to bring it down a little
| | 05:38 | bit in size just so I can kind of get
some of these things to look like what
| | 05:41 | they are. And we've got this big thing here so
| | 05:45 | let's just kind of bring it up.
There's this thing, reef, or whatever it
| | 05:50 | is down there. Let's just
roughen this all up so it
| | 05:54 | looks like all these little pieces of the
ocean floor there are, in fact, obscuring
| | 06:00 | parts of our little boat. We're
going to get more of this thing
| | 06:06 | going, and let's put down the Opacity for
this boat, just so we could see that thing.
| | 06:11 | Oh, it's really tall. Oh, I'll
tell you what, let's go for the
| | 06:13 | whole thing. I'm going to
go in here and continue to
| | 06:16 | just bring this whole piece up. There we go.
| | 06:20 | The whole thing in there,
and the same thing with this.
| | 06:23 | Let's get all this stuff in here
just to obscure that part of the boat.
| | 06:29 | Now, I'm going to get a smaller brush
and kind of make it look like little coral
| | 06:33 | pieces, just coming out like that.
Right in here, I'm going to get even
| | 06:38 | smaller and I can get
really tight into this area.
| | 06:40 | Let's go in there and look at this. I
can get really tight into this area, if
| | 06:44 | I can just get just that shape, with a
rough edge, because it has to be rough.
| | 06:51 | And I'm going to go in there and just
kind of follow that same little growth,
| | 06:57 | whatever that is. Get real
small here, and just have these
| | 07:02 | little guys come up kind of like the way
I was tracing the boat in the first place
| | 07:05 | just to separate it. Except
here, what I'm doing is I'm
| | 07:09 | tracing it to hide it. So, I've
got all of these little things
| | 07:13 | going on. Bring the Opacity back up to 100% and
| | 07:15 | there, we can see that we're starting
to get our boat into the ocean floor and
| | 07:18 | it's stuck down there. But now,
what I'm going to do is I'm
| | 07:22 | going to apply that Gradient again. So,
let's go in here and get this, this Gradient.
| | 07:28 | Let's get this blue. This nice
blue color and create a layer
| | 07:33 | on top. And we'll pick that blue right there.
| | 07:36 | And in that layer, I'm going to go ahead
and fill it with that blue, and what I'm
| | 07:39 | going to do is I'm going to trap
that layer with our boat right here.
| | 07:44 | Trap it inside the boat and I'm going
to set that to, let's try a couple of
| | 07:46 | different modes. Set it to
screen, and not the boat, I'm
| | 07:50 | in the wrong layer. There we go.
| | 07:53 | This is the one. We're going
to set this up to screen and
| | 07:55 | see what that's going to do. And
that's a little too strong so let's
| | 07:59 | just go in there and let's try and overlay.
| | 08:02 | That's giving us some nice
blue, a little blue there.
| | 08:05 | And you know what, the best one is
going to be, believe it or not, just plain
| | 08:08 | normal and bringing down the Opacity.
Bring down the Opacity so that the boat
| | 08:12 | will now start to blend into its background.
| | 08:15 | We want that blue to be kind
of even all the way through.
| | 08:17 | So there, and bring it up just a tat.
So there, we see that the boat is now
| | 08:22 | sitting on the ocean floor. In
the next movie, we're going to start
| | 08:26 | adding a few more details to our little scene.
| | 08:30 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding coral| 00:00 | Now that we have our boat in the water,
let's start adding some little features
| | 00:03 | that are going to create this underwater world.
| | 00:07 | One thing we need is something in the
foreground, something that is going to
| | 00:10 | kind of tie it all together and give
us a place within this whole realm here.
| | 00:14 | So I got this other image that I took that same.
| | 00:18 | Diving trip. And that's just coral.
| | 00:20 | Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to
separate this coral pretty much the way
| | 00:23 | I've done with the other pieces.
And that's using an alpha channel.
| | 00:28 | And there you can see where
I've created this alpha channel.
| | 00:29 | I've got some areas that are
kind of soft and light and so on.
| | 00:33 | And other areas, which I
need to really get rid of.
| | 00:36 | Like, for instance, right here.
I'm going to go in here and just.
| | 00:38 | Clean this up. Click arrow
and just get rid of those
| | 00:41 | kind of things there. I want
to keep these guys here, kind of
| | 00:44 | loose because it's a little
velvety area right there in the coral.
| | 00:48 | So it's just the little soft
areas here. I want to maintain those.
| | 00:52 | So, basically what I did is,
I traced it as I had before.
| | 00:56 | So then I, I exposed the coral. And
just the parts that I want, which is
| | 01:01 | just the coral and this foreground area.
So now that I have that, I'm going to go
| | 01:05 | in there and load the coral. What
I'll do is I'm going to then bring
| | 01:09 | it into my scene. So I grab it, and bring it in.
| | 01:13 | And there it is, sits right in front.
So what I can do it, I'm going to make it
| | 01:17 | a little larger right off the bat. Make
it a little larger here, just like that.
| | 01:21 | And I'm going to do a
little flip horizontal on it.
| | 01:27 | Then I'm bring it down into this area
down here just kind of becomes a little
| | 01:31 | frame just kind of showing
our little boat way back there.
| | 01:35 | And it kind of shows that we're kind of
creeping up on it and there it is under
| | 01:39 | the water. I might want to go in there and just
| | 01:42 | enhance it's color. Just to
give it a little more interest.
| | 01:44 | So I'm going to just punch up
the saturation a little bit.
| | 01:47 | because this is closest to us. So
were going to start to see, some nice
| | 01:49 | bright colors there. Click OK.
| | 01:52 | And there we see that we now have the quarrel.
| | 01:54 | And in the next movie, what were going to
do is create all the stuff in the back here.
| | 01:59 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating the background and the surface| 00:00 | So now, what we need is we need
something behind the boat and we need the surface
| | 00:04 | of the water. Well, for
the background, let's go in
| | 00:08 | here and look at a couple of shots that I
took a long time ago down in Cabo San Lucas.
| | 00:14 | These giant rocks are going to be perfect.
| | 00:17 | That's what we're going to use. So,
what I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 00:19 | go in here and select these with the magic wand.
| | 00:22 | And I'm going to click in the blue and
Shift-click up there, and make sure I get
| | 00:25 | all this blue, and all that area there.
And I'm going to inverse the selection.
| | 00:31 | Now, that I got that selected, I'm going
to Option, Click and Drag through here to
| | 00:35 | deselect these portions that I don't want.
| | 00:39 | I just want, basically, the
rocks. Now, the rest is okay.
| | 00:43 | It's going to be fine because of the fact
that the, what's going to happen next is
| | 00:47 | that I'm going to be able to
combine these into one scene here.
| | 00:52 | And I'm going to blend
them in to its background.
| | 00:54 | So, it doesn't matter. So, I'm
going to go in here and grab this
| | 00:57 | and bring it into my scene.
There's the first one.
| | 01:01 | And I'm going to get the second one, and
I'm going to select it the exact same way.
| | 01:04 | I'm just going to select the sky there.
Shift select some more and rest down
| | 01:08 | there and that little bit of blue up
there and then, inverse the selection,
| | 01:12 | just like before and drag that into my scene.
| | 01:16 | So there, there's my rocks in place. So,
what I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 01:21 | make them a little larger. I'm
going to go and take this one right
| | 01:24 | here and I'm going to put them behind the boat.
| | 01:27 | I take it and put it way
back here behind the boat.
| | 01:32 | Now, the boat is going to obliterate some
of this stuff so we'll going to get it to
| | 01:35 | all come through really nicely. And
then this other rock here, this first
| | 01:39 | rock here, that one, let's
bring it down behind the boat.
| | 01:44 | All right. So now, what
I'm going to do with these,
| | 01:46 | and this one in particular, I'm
going to make it a little larger.
| | 01:49 | Let's just go in there and increase its
size, and bring it down here, like that.
| | 01:55 | And this one, we'll also make a little larger.
| | 01:57 | Take this one here, make it larger so
it kind of really fills up this space in
| | 02:02 | here like so and there, we go.
Let's just bring it in like that.
| | 02:08 | So, there's our rocks in the background.
So, what I'm going to do with these guys
| | 02:12 | is I'm going to bring them
down in Opacity considerably.
| | 02:14 | I'm going to bring down the Opacity
so that they're just little ghost back
| | 02:17 | there, way back there. Same
thing with this one, I'm going to
| | 02:21 | bring it all the way down. So,
this is even further back.
| | 02:24 | So, it is even less visible.
They are way back in there.
| | 02:28 | Then I'll give them masks. So,
I'm going to give it a mask, and I
| | 02:31 | want to hide the top part of this thing.
So, what I am going to do is I am going
| | 02:35 | to make sure I am set to (UNKNOWN) to
white and in the Mask there, I'm going to
| | 02:38 | want the bottom part to disappear. So,
I'm just going to start down here and
| | 02:43 | go straight up and throw a mask in it
like that, just so it starts to disappear.
| | 02:48 | Same thing with this one, we'll go and
give it a mask so it starts to disappear
| | 02:51 | and I did it in layer and
I didn't give it a mask.
| | 02:56 | There's a mask. Okay, so
we'll throw in there and throw
| | 02:59 | in that gradient so that it's going to
disappear and go a little linear gradient there.
| | 03:05 | There we go. And that
starts to disappear and I just
| | 03:07 | noticed that this was given a radio
gradient, let's go in there and redo that mask.
| | 03:12 | So there, now these rocks are way
behind our boat.` Now, we need the surface of
| | 03:16 | the water. So, I open up a
file that will be perfect
| | 03:20 | for the surface of the water and you
can see, I've got quite a few little shots
| | 03:24 | that I've used here and got this one.
This is one that I took of one of the
| | 03:29 | other divers. Now, this
little line went all the way up.
| | 03:33 | I just used a Clone tool to get rid of it.
| | 03:35 | But right there, that's what I want,
that little area right up there.
| | 03:38 | That's going to be perfect
for our little scene here.
| | 03:41 | And maybe that water might be good, too.
So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 03:44 | just select that top portion right up in there.
| | 03:47 | Let's go in here and let's select this
top portion right through here and drag
| | 03:52 | that into our scene. And that
we're going to put way up on the top.
| | 03:58 | There it is. And what I'm
going to do is I'm going to
| | 04:01 | enlarge it so that it
fills up that scene entirely.
| | 04:05 | There it is, that's the
surface of the water way up on top.
| | 04:09 | And what I'm going to do is,
I'm going to give it a mask.
| | 04:12 | And in that mask, I'm going to just
very lightly paint away the parts I don't
| | 04:16 | want, so I'm going to get a large brush
here, make it really large, and make it
| | 04:20 | very soft. I'm going to bring down the Opacity a
| | 04:24 | bit, so I can start to paint. I'll
make it even larger, I'm going to
| | 04:27 | start to paint away from that area there
just so I can start to blend it into my
| | 04:30 | background, bringing back my
rocks that I want to be able to see.
| | 04:36 | There you go, you're just slowly getting
rid of it and leaving those light tones
| | 04:40 | on top and there we see that now we have
the surface of the water visible in our scene.
| | 04:45 | Now in the next scene, what
we're going to do is add some fish.
| | 04:51 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding fish| 00:00 | Now that our underwater sea is fairly
full, we need to add some life, some fish.
| | 00:06 | I got a couple of fish here,
I got this one little guy.
| | 00:09 | Now, he is kind of very similar to his
background, but we can kind of make him out.
| | 00:14 | So I think the best way to get him
separated from the background in this
| | 00:17 | particular case would be a path. There I
have a path that I created that surrounds
| | 00:21 | the fish if we get in a little close we
can see what it looks like and there's a
| | 00:24 | little path right along here
that's encompassing the whole fish.
| | 00:31 | What I'm going to do is turn that path
into a selection so selects our fish and
| | 00:35 | then we'll bring him into our seam here.
Just grab them and drag them into our scene.
| | 00:41 | Let them just float there for a few minutes.
| | 00:44 | I have a school of fish here.
Now, I can probably use the same
| | 00:46 | technique here. But this
one, there is a little more
| | 00:49 | separation going on there. So
we'll go look at our channels and try
| | 00:52 | it that way. We see where
we have some good separation
| | 00:54 | like There its a little too muted its
too much of a contrast going on there the
| | 00:58 | green that's looking pretty good. The
blue completely gone I'm going to go
| | 01:03 | with the green one here I'm going to
duplicate the green channel either a copy
| | 01:06 | of the green and I'm going to go into my levels.
| | 01:10 | That's where I'm going to start to
really start to adjust this to get the effect
| | 01:13 | that I want. So I'm going to bring my blacks in.
| | 01:16 | Bring them way in. And I'm
going to those mid-tones back up.
| | 01:20 | And same thing with my lights.
I'm going to bring them back up.
| | 01:22 | I want those to be nice and bright in there.
| | 01:24 | Just like that. And click OK.
| | 01:27 | Now, I got some little areas in here
which I definitely do not want to have.
| | 01:31 | So, I'm going to get a nice small brush,
and I'm just going to paint those out.
| | 01:35 | Make sure my (UNKNOWN) is up to 100% and
just going to get rid of some of those
| | 01:39 | unwanted little pieces in htere and
there and maybe this little guy under there.
| | 01:44 | Get rid of all this, this we can just
select this way and go ahead and fill it
| | 01:48 | with the black. So, now I
want to bring this out even more.
| | 01:52 | So, I'm going to go back into my Levels
again and push those whites even further.
| | 01:56 | Now, just playing with
the whites and I'm going.
| | 01:58 | Pushed them all the way forward so
I could make sure I had those fish
| | 02:01 | completely exposed and then using white
I will go in there with my paintbrush and
| | 02:04 | start to paint in these areas to make
sure they get selected as well, I'll just
| | 02:08 | go in there and just do a little
touching here and there, it doesn't have to be
| | 02:11 | perfect because these fish are going to
be further back and our single fish over
| | 02:15 | there, we're just going to kind of
bring all these things in just to kind of
| | 02:18 | finish that fish off. Then that
we have that we can now go back
| | 02:26 | to RBG and load that channel. All
right, and bring it down here and see
| | 02:30 | where we're going, and we're going to
take those guys and bring them into our
| | 02:34 | scene as well. There they are.
| | 02:36 | All right, so now we look at
our layers and we have our fish.
| | 02:40 | So, what we're going to do is take the
little school of fish and make it much smaller.
| | 02:44 | We'll go into our transform and we just
bring way down, and we'll kind of just
| | 02:47 | let him float there for now. And
then we're going to take this guy in
| | 02:52 | the foreground, and we're going to kind of
put him in there and make him a little smaller.
| | 02:56 | He's a little too big right now.
Just make him a little bit smaller.
| | 02:59 | Just so he's got a little
presence there. So there's a little fish.
| | 03:02 | It's starting to look
like there's life down there.
| | 03:05 | In the next movie what we're going to
do is create an entire school of fish
| | 03:08 | swirling through this whole thing which
will provide the food for what these guys
| | 03:12 | are looking for.
| | 03:15 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating a fish brush| 00:00 | So now what we're going to do is to
populate our ocean with a school of fish
| | 00:03 | just swimming through this area that
these little predators here are feeding on.
| | 00:10 | So how are we going to
create a whole school of fish?
| | 00:13 | Well, what we're going to
do is going to use a brush.
| | 00:16 | So, I did a little search on the web and I
found this little quartet of fish, dead fish.
| | 00:23 | But it's okay, we're going
to bring it back to life.
| | 00:25 | So, what I did is, taken the one in
front, it's the only one that's complete.
| | 00:29 | And I created a little path for it, so
I'm going to turn it into a selection.
| | 00:32 | Then I'd send it over to a new layer via Cut.
| | 00:36 | So now going to take that guy and put
him in the middle here and, I'm going to
| | 00:41 | rotate him. Rotate him so
he's nice and straight on
| | 00:45 | like that there you go there's our little fish.
| | 00:48 | Now for the background go see that
background going to go ahead and just
| | 00:51 | fill the background with the
white. And there's our fish.
| | 00:55 | Now what I'm going to do is I'm going
to make him a little darker, because the
| | 00:57 | darker the tones, the more
opaque that brush is going to be.
| | 01:00 | So I'm going to go into my Levels here
where I'm going to darken, darken our
| | 01:04 | fish considerably. There we go.
| | 01:07 | Just want to have a little detail
on him, just a, a little tiny bit.
| | 01:11 | I'm going to click OK. So, there's our fish.
| | 01:14 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
select the fish and define it as a brush.
| | 01:21 | We'll call it Fish, and that's
it. That's all we need to do.
| | 01:25 | We can come back over to our underwater
scene now, and we'll create a layer above
| | 01:28 | all these guys. Way up here.
| | 01:31 | All right. Now, I haven't named any of my layers
| | 01:33 | along the way. I strongly
suggest that you do name your layers.
| | 01:38 | But I don't want to waste your time.
By naming them but you'd name them that
| | 01:41 | way you'll know exactly which ones they are.
| | 01:44 | Now look at my paint brush here.
And I'm going to pick that brush.
| | 01:47 | Which will appear as the
last brush. There's my fish.
| | 01:51 | See, (UNKNOWN) now does that. So,
what were going to do there.
| | 01:55 | Is going to my Brush Engine, where
we're going to modify this Brush so it does
| | 01:59 | exactly what I want it to do. And
I'm going to bring up the Spacing to
| | 02:04 | give a little spacing to
our fish, just like that.
| | 02:08 | Then I'm going to go into my Shape
Dynamics, where I am going to let's bring
| | 02:11 | the angle down. And the size.
| | 02:15 | We got unpercent Jitter. And what
were going to do is set up a minimum.
| | 02:19 | So we don't get to small. But that's good.
| | 02:21 | That's a nice variation
right there. The Angle Jitter.
| | 02:24 | Were going to do ever so
slight, shift. Just a little bit.
| | 02:28 | A few of them will not won't all
be facing the exact same direction.
| | 02:31 | A little bit of shift. But
we are going to play here.
| | 02:34 | The control we are going to set to direction.
| | 02:37 | That way the fish are going to follow in
the direction that our brush stroke goes.
| | 02:43 | Now we're going to do a little scattering.
| | 02:45 | Now scattering, we have, just
bring it in a little more like that.
| | 02:49 | Maybe open it up, it's a
little spacing in there.
| | 02:51 | And the count you can bring the count down.
| | 02:53 | let's see with a two. That looks good.
| | 02:56 | All right, then were going
to do a little color dynamics.
| | 02:59 | Apply the per tip. So each
tip is going to have a different
| | 03:01 | color based on the foreground and background.
| | 03:04 | With no hue Jitter. But we
will have a saturation Jitter,
| | 03:07 | just a little. And brightness Jitter, a bit.
| | 03:10 | All right? We don't want the huge Jitter because
| | 03:13 | we're going to depend on the
colors of our foreground and background.
| | 03:16 | And the saturation, and the well,
saturation we're going to bring down.
| | 03:20 | because, basically we're going
to be working with muted grays.
| | 03:23 | And then we're going to work with
brightness, so that some fish will be
| | 03:26 | brighter than others. So,
right now we have a black.
| | 03:29 | So I'm going to pick a nice,
deep grey like that for my foreground.
| | 03:33 | And for my background, I'm
going to pick a much lighter grey.
| | 03:37 | About like that. Not too much lighter.
| | 03:39 | So we have a, enough of a difference there.
| | 03:40 | We can test a brush to
see how it's going to look.
| | 03:43 | And we go across there we see
that there's our fish so far.
| | 03:45 | So, now that we've seen that what I'm
going to do is I'm going to make the
| | 03:48 | brush a little smaller. And
now that we see how they fit in
| | 03:52 | there, and let's just do one more test.
There it is, our little school of fish.
| | 03:57 | That's looking pretty good. So
what I'm going to do is now I'm
| | 04:00 | going to go in here and
start applying our little fish.
| | 04:03 | And where I'm going to apply them is
possibly well, let's put em on top, for now.
| | 04:07 | So I'm going to go in here, and I'm
going to just draw a little swirl of fish.
| | 04:11 | And it's just kind of traveling around, see?
| | 04:13 | It's just creating this
nice little swirl of fish.
| | 04:16 | And I'm going to get a
another layer right on top.
| | 04:20 | And I'm going to make my brush a little smaller.
| | 04:23 | And put a second batch
right behind 'em. There we go.
| | 04:26 | Now this one we might just
add a few more fish to it.
| | 04:30 | Just so we have all these little fish,
just all coming down along this area here.
| | 04:34 | And here they're going to
kind of, kind of spin out.
| | 04:37 | The, they going to panic because these
other fish are coming into play here.
| | 04:40 | So now that we have them in
there, what I might want to do is
| | 04:45 | Go in there and colorize these. So
they are in two separate layers, now
| | 04:48 | let's, take that second layer and put it
right back here, so the bigger fish are
| | 04:51 | in the front. All right?
| | 04:54 | And, now we're going to go in there and
just, give these guys a little tinge of
| | 04:57 | the blue. Now we have that same blue that we
| | 05:00 | applied to our boat. Could do
is just go ahead and duplicate
| | 05:04 | that layer. Duplicate
that layer, and, unclip it.
| | 05:09 | Right, just dragging it
up on top here. All right?
| | 05:11 | And what we're going to do is we're
going to clip it to our layers of fish.
| | 05:16 | We have two layers so we're
going to duplicate it twice.
| | 05:19 | Put the other one on top,
and we'll clip it there.
| | 05:23 | And we'll clip it there. And
now our fish has those same blue
| | 05:27 | tones showing through. They
have the same opacity as I did to
| | 05:30 | the boat so now we see all of the
little fish there and what we might do is to
| | 05:34 | take this. a little
school of fish and see this is
| | 05:38 | where I should have named them
right. But we know it's right there.
| | 05:41 | And we're going to move those guys down
into this negative area here where they
| | 05:44 | are about to attack our school
of fish that are just swimming by.
| | 05:47 | And then our big fish we're going to
bring him in front so that these no
| | 05:50 | longer, and not clipped,
let's unto that. Bring them up.
| | 05:55 | On top of everybody there we go. Way up there.
| | 05:58 | Unless we turn that clip. Right there.
| | 06:01 | Bring that clip back. All right,
so now that fish is in front.
| | 06:04 | And we might even want to move him a
little bit in front of that school of
| | 06:07 | fish that's just swimming by. And
there we see that we now have our
| | 06:11 | completed scene. Where we
have some life streaming
| | 06:15 | through, a boat that died a long time
ago, and then the ocean floor and the
| | 06:19 | surface up above.
| | 06:22 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding rays of lights| 00:00 | For the final touch, we're going to
add some light coming down from up above.
| | 00:05 | So what I'm going to do is I'm
going to create another layer here.
| | 00:09 | And this layer using a brush and white,
I'm going to draw a couple of big spots here.
| | 00:15 | Little spots just like that. Now
we're going to give them a filter.
| | 00:22 | I'm going to go into my Radio blur. Now
it's going to be set up as I had it before.
| | 00:27 | Set to Zoom mode, which is the way it looks.
| | 00:30 | Now I'm going to have it center the
effect from way up there center top, and
| | 00:34 | the full amount of 100. And click OK.
| | 00:40 | going to create these little long
little spots like that, I'm going to do it
| | 00:43 | again, I'm going to apply it a second time.
| | 00:46 | Make it even longer. And now
they're not that strong, so what
| | 00:49 | I'm going to do is I'm going to
duplicate that layer so we have two of them.
| | 00:53 | Now I'm going to take one and
merge it down into the other.
| | 00:57 | And as a final touch I'm going to go
into there into my Transform tools.
| | 01:01 | And I'm going to bring them up towards
the top, and bring them way down towards
| | 01:06 | the bottom, like that. And what
I'm going to do is, I'm going to
| | 01:10 | put 'em behind the fish. Put 'em back here.
| | 01:13 | It's just these little rays of light
that are just coming down from up above.
| | 01:18 | And that will complete the
entire scene of being under water.
| | 01:21 | And maybe I want to move them up just a
little bit so they're closer to the surface.
| | 01:26 | There we go. There's these
nice rays of light coming
| | 01:29 | down from up above.
| | 01:30 |

8. Staircase to the TreeIntroduction| 00:00 | This dreamscape is going
to get a little surreal.
| | 00:02 | I'll take a really bizarre tree and an
old entrance from a castle and a staircase.
| | 00:10 | We're going to create in 3D. Add a
guy, just hiking, background, and a
| | 00:13 | sky, and combine all these images to
create a surreal image of a man standing
| | 00:18 | in front of a very strange little
habitat for some strange little gremlins.
| | 00:25 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Compositing the sky and land| 00:00 | Now, this image that we see here, a
close up of a parched dry lake is going to
| | 00:05 | serve as the Ground Plane. And
right behind it, it's an image of a
| | 00:11 | sky, really intense sun
setting kind of sky over Orlando.
| | 00:18 | So these two images are going to be combined.
| | 00:21 | So first, let's work on the land here.
So in the land, I'm going to double-click
| | 00:25 | on the background, to convert it into a layer.
| | 00:29 | We're going to call it land. So now
that it's a layer, I'm going to go
| | 00:34 | in there and hit the Command+T to bring up
the Transform tools, what I'm going to do
| | 00:38 | is bring it down to about there .
That's going to be the horizon line way
| | 00:45 | back there. Then I'll take my sky here, and I'm
| | 00:48 | going to drag it right in. And now
that it's in there, I can kind of
| | 00:52 | get rid of this sky. And
what I'm going to do here is I'm
| | 00:56 | going to bring up the Transform tools,
but first I'm going to put that in the
| | 01:00 | back and call it sky. So I'm
going to bring up the Transform
| | 01:04 | tools, Command+T, and I don't see it
because this file is much bigger than the
| | 01:09 | original file. So, I'm going
to hit Command+0 to bring me
| | 01:13 | into a full view of the area of that
image that I'm going to go there and modify.
| | 01:18 | So I'm going to go in there, and from
the center out, I'm going to hold on my
| | 01:22 | Option key and my Shift key, from the
center out, I'm going to shrink it down,
| | 01:26 | to fall into that space in there.
Now that I've got the width and the
| | 01:32 | height, I'm going to go in there and
start just kind of condensing it like this.
| | 01:38 | And pressing it into place, and bring it
up just till I got just about the area of
| | 01:43 | the beginning of the sky
there. The area of the horizon.
| | 01:49 | Move it over into place, and
there it is. So I'm going to hit OK.
| | 01:54 | So now, we see that the light is kind
of matching because the sun is somewhere
| | 01:58 | over there. And the
shadows on the crackled dirt down
| | 02:02 | here are on this side as
well. So, our lights work.
| | 02:07 | If they didn't, I'd have to go in there
and flip one of these so that the light
| | 02:10 | source would match. Now, the
horizon right now is very sharp.
| | 02:15 | So, what I'm going to do is, I'm
going to give the land plane a mask.
| | 02:18 | And I'm going to give a tiny little
gradient going from white to black, right
| | 02:23 | in here, a tiny gradient, right in there.
So I just get a little softening of the
| | 02:30 | horizon back there. So it's not so hard.
| | 02:33 | Maybe we'll just make it
a little less, even less.
| | 02:37 | There we go, just a little hint of a
softening of the background, way in the back.
| | 02:43 | So now, I'm going to do one more thing to
this land here, I'll create a layer above
| | 02:47 | it and this layer, I'm going to create a
gradient going from black to transparent.
| | 02:53 | I'm going to throw it right into
there, right in there like that.
| | 02:57 | So it's going to create this
darker tone back there like that.
| | 03:01 | I'm going to clip it with the layer
of the land, just like that so at this
| | 03:05 | darkness, as it gets further back, I'll
set that to Multiply and bring down it's
| | 03:09 | Opacity considerably just so I can darken
the horizon so it looks, gives that sense
| | 03:14 | as even further back in space. And
there's the beginnings of our scene.
| | 03:21 | This is going to serve as the
background for the story we're about to tell.
| | 03:25 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Selecting the tree and compositing| 00:00 | So now that our background is complete,
we're now going to start adding the
| | 00:03 | elements of the story. And one
of them is this massive tree.
| | 00:07 | Now, I just happen to have taken a shot
of a tree down in Morro Bay, big gnarly
| | 00:12 | tree right here. This is the
one that's going to serve as
| | 00:16 | our tree. Now, using the technique I've used in
| | 00:18 | quite a few of the other movies, I'm
going to go in there and outline it in an
| | 00:21 | alpha channel, which we see right here.
And when we look at the other guys, you
| | 00:26 | see that I just simply traced over the
tree, the limbs that I wanted, it only
| | 00:29 | has to go so high, because this is going
to be encompassing the entire image right
| | 00:32 | in there. And I'm kind of
rough down here, kind of
| | 00:37 | rough in this area here, because
that's going to have a mask to have it blend
| | 00:40 | into the existing scene. So,
what I'm going to do now is I'm
| | 00:44 | going to load that Channel. And,
I'm going to take this guy and
| | 00:48 | composite it into my
background, right there, like that.
| | 00:53 | There's the tree in place. So,
now I'm going to move into position
| | 00:56 | where I want him, right about let's say
about there and let's move this in, there
| | 01:00 | we go. There's our tree in position.
| | 01:04 | Now, like I said, we're going to make
this blend a little better even though it
| | 01:07 | looks fairly good down there right now.
I just want to get a little better blend,
| | 01:12 | so I'm just going to go in
there and give this a Layer Mask.
| | 01:15 | And that Layer Mask, using Black, I'm
going to very lightly go in, let me, make
| | 01:19 | sure I got a Soft Brush, and I'm going
to bring down the Opacity right a bit, and
| | 01:23 | I'm going to just very lightly, I'm
going to make the brush a little small
| | 01:26 | and very lightly going to go in here and
just kind of soften some of these little
| | 01:30 | blended areas right in there into the Mask.
| | 01:36 | I'm in the mask and I got a
paint with black, that would help.
| | 01:39 | So there we go. So, I start
to just blend some of these
| | 01:41 | guys, that they are just going to melt
right into the existing landscape and
| | 01:45 | start to just look like it
is part of the overall scene.
| | 01:50 | There we go, were just going
right into the dirt there like that.
| | 01:53 | And then with this guide I have, I'm
just going to go right into the ground.
| | 01:56 | So you can see, were just making it
disappear like, it's melting into the
| | 01:59 | dirt below. There's our
little pieces and there now
| | 02:03 | our tree is in position. Now
it's going to need some shading, but
| | 02:07 | were going to do that at the end, that's why
I'm going to add all the necessary shading.
| | 02:11 | We got some basic shading which is pretty
good because it's fairly dark on the side
| | 02:15 | lights on the side like our
existing light source, so that helps.
| | 02:19 | But we do want to add some drama like we
did to the ground, we'll add some drama
| | 02:22 | to the tree later on.
| | 02:24 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Making a 3D staircase| 00:00 | So in our storyline here, what's
going to happen is there is going to be a
| | 00:04 | staircase going up to this, little
entrance up here, where some kind of a
| | 00:08 | hobbit or a gnome lives. So
we're going to create the staircase.
| | 00:14 | Now, you might say, well,
that's going to require some work.
| | 00:17 | Not really. Photoshop does have 3D capabilities.
| | 00:21 | So I'm going to create in a
totally separate file here.
| | 00:23 | I created a regular square file here,
and I'm going to turn on my Grid, because
| | 00:28 | being a staircase, it's fairly symmetrical.
| | 00:33 | So using my Pen tool, I'm
going to start down here.
| | 00:36 | And I click to half way, and then over,
and then up, across, over, there you go
| | 00:41 | see how I'm just creating this
staircase going all the way up to the top.
| | 00:49 | You're thinking oh I'm going to have
to sit here and watch this whole thing.
| | 00:52 | No, I already have one made. See,
isn't it great to be prepared?
| | 00:57 | So what I'm going to do is now, is
I'm just going to turn off my Grid.
| | 01:01 | I don't need to see it anymore. I
have my staircase that I created and it
| | 01:04 | is very important that I close it off.
When I got to the top here, I gave a
| | 01:07 | little extra space. I
came down and closed it off.
| | 01:10 | So it's one complete path. So now,
I've got my path there and what
| | 01:15 | I'm going to do is, I go to my 3D menu.
And over here I'm going to say new 3D
| | 01:21 | extrusion from selected path.
So I'm going to select that.
| | 01:26 | So, this little window comes up and
says you're about to create a 3D layer.
| | 01:30 | Would you like to switch to a 3D workspace?
| | 01:31 | Now, the workspaces are up here.
Where you can control your own, how's it
| | 01:36 | going to be arranged and so on.
Not just say, go ahead, yes.
| | 01:41 | That way it's going to have all
the necessary tools that I want.
| | 01:43 | And you notice that it created
a shape, based on my 3D pound.
| | 01:49 | So what I'm going to do
is I'm going to rotate it.
| | 01:51 | Just so I could see it about like that.
Right now, it's a really big staircase
| | 01:54 | and I want it to be a narrow staircase.
So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to
| | 01:58 | go over here To my shape.
This is the background.
| | 02:01 | That's the shape itself. You
notice that when I selected that I
| | 02:04 | get this little controller here,
which allows me to control certain things.
| | 02:07 | Like move it up and down and do that, or
rotate it, or all kinds of things that I
| | 02:11 | could do to this thing.
Here's a rotation right there, see?
| | 02:14 | I can rotate at different angles. And
so on so what I'm going to do now is
| | 02:18 | I'm going to go over here and you see
on the properties there's the exclusion
| | 02:22 | depth so I'm going to make it
narrower by just bringing this slider in.
| | 02:27 | A nice narrow depth like that right
now I'm going to take my little Move tool
| | 02:31 | here and move it over.
There we go, so it's like that.
| | 02:37 | Now my angle, the angle of that I want to
view this at, is very similar, has to be
| | 02:41 | exactly like the scene that I'm creating.
So I'm going to go over to the camera,
| | 02:47 | right here, the camera itself, and
with this tool, I can change the view.
| | 02:53 | That my camera has so I'm going to put it
about like that and I'm going to bring it
| | 02:56 | down a little bit. Bring or
bring it up so that my camera's
| | 03:00 | just about like that and that's fairly
close to what I want maybe a little bit
| | 03:04 | more of a rotation there we go. There.
| | 03:07 | Now, the lighting you can see the
shadow that's being cast back here, because I
| | 03:11 | have it set to cast a shadow and
a, see right there cast shadows.
| | 03:17 | What I want to do now is I want to
change the light source to be from down here.
| | 03:22 | Because that's the way it is in my
scene, that's where the sun is setting.
| | 03:26 | So I'm going to go to my
light, see infinite light.
| | 03:29 | Now, I can have additional lights like
spotlights and stuff that I can create
| | 03:32 | right here. But I'm just going to work with the
| | 03:34 | ambient light. There are no
other light sources except
| | 03:36 | that ambient light and the setting sun.
So, I get this little symbol here which
| | 03:41 | represents the light
source, kind of like the sun.
| | 03:45 | So I'm going to take this
little point right here, and move it.
| | 03:48 | And you notice how it's
changing the light source?
| | 03:50 | See how it's changing the way we see this thing?
| | 03:53 | I'm going to just change this so that my
light source is coming from down there.
| | 03:57 | Just like the setting sun. And you
can see what it's done to our staircase.
| | 04:01 | Then what I'm going to do is I'm
going to go to my extrusion material.
| | 04:06 | That's this stuff. This part right here.
| | 04:09 | They are different materials.
That's the material that this staircase
| | 04:12 | is made of. And again the properties changed, to
| | 04:15 | materials, because I'm right
here in the material layer.
| | 04:18 | So I could pick one of the
presets or I can create my own.
| | 04:22 | But I'm going to go ahead and pick one of
these presets and there's quite a few of
| | 04:24 | them here, so I'm going
to use this guy right here.
| | 04:27 | Click, and you can see how we
created texture to my surface there.
| | 04:32 | So now what I want to do is I want
to modify that texture a little bit.
| | 04:36 | So I might want to go in and let's
just go right into here and I can click on
| | 04:40 | this which gives me the colors that
its using and I can go into maybe pick a
| | 04:44 | darker tone. Maybe a color like this, whatever.
| | 04:50 | But I'm going to mess around with
the way this actual texture is created.
| | 04:57 | So in the next movie, what were going
to do is go in there and change those
| | 05:00 | textures and get it ready to be rendered.
| | 05:03 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Rendering stairs| 00:00 | Now that our basic staircase is ready to
go, I'm going to go in there and change
| | 00:03 | the colors. This looks like,
well, I would want it to
| | 00:07 | look more like concrete or stone.
So here's my background, there's my
| | 00:10 | extrusion material. It's,
it's all the way it is.
| | 00:14 | I could make some changes,
reflections, and shine.
| | 00:17 | But what I want to do is I want to go
into layers, right here, Layers panel.
| | 00:20 | And my layers right there. I got Capsule Defuse.
| | 00:24 | I'm going to double-click on that.
That's going to bring me into a totally
| | 00:28 | separate file, which is the actual
material that, that texture is made from.
| | 00:34 | And as you can see it has
this, turn off that color part.
| | 00:38 | And it's got this little effect here.
Now, I could just dump this completely.
| | 00:43 | I don't need this thing up here, or
I could go in there and just add that
| | 00:47 | gradient to it. But change it.
| | 00:50 | So, I'm going to double-click on the Gradient.
| | 00:52 | And, and it's going to bring me into,
double-clicking up here, the Regular
| | 00:55 | Gradient Editor. Whenever I
want, I can go in there and
| | 00:59 | start changing these colors. So,
I'm going to change this to a black.
| | 01:03 | Let's go to foreground
color which currently is black.
| | 01:06 | And this, I'm just going to double-click
on it to bring me into the Color Picker
| | 01:10 | and I'm going to choose a deep
gray, like that, and click OK.
| | 01:15 | And click OK, and there you can see
that's now giving me this nice little
| | 01:19 | gradient on top of this, completes the effect.
| | 01:23 | But now when I close this and I save it,
you see that the staircase automatically
| | 01:27 | renders to that new color and all
the effects that I've added throughout.
| | 01:33 | So, now comes time to render this.
Rendering is going to take all the
| | 01:37 | information and make it
look as clean as possible.
| | 01:40 | And to do that, you have a quickie right
here, right there, that little icon under
| | 01:43 | Properties you click on that
and it's going to start to render.
| | 01:48 | And now it looks like it's moving
fast. But it is going to slow down.
| | 01:50 | See, now it's starting to slow down.
It's going to take a while to render it.
| | 01:54 | The higher the res, the
longer it's going to take.
| | 01:56 | So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to
just hit Escape to stop the render, for now.
| | 02:01 | When the render is finished, what you
do you come up the layers and you say
| | 02:04 | Rasterize the 3D Layer. That's
going to turn it into a regular
| | 02:09 | little pixel layer, okay? That's
the layer that we will then import
| | 02:13 | into our overall image, which I already did.
| | 02:16 | See? I already have it in there.
| | 02:19 | So, I brought it in and I shrunk it
into position and I put it exactly where I
| | 02:22 | want it. Now, there's
going to be some additional
| | 02:25 | modifications that I need to do.
We'll get to those in a little while.
| | 02:28 | So, here we got the little staircase in place.
| | 02:31 | I'm going to kind of move it
over just a little like that.
| | 02:34 | That's where it's going
to live, right about there.
| | 02:38 | And maybe right there. There we go.
| | 02:39 | Now, you see how this stuff here is kind
of like getting hidden or this stuff here
| | 02:43 | looks very gnarly. So, what
I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 02:47 | close that up. Let's turn
off our staircase for a minute
| | 02:50 | and let's get rid of this hole.
That's a very disturbing looking hole.
| | 02:54 | So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to clone.
| | 02:56 | And just to be sure that I get it right,
I'm going to clone on top of another
| | 02:59 | blank layer here. I have all layers selected.
| | 03:06 | So now, I'm going to go
in here and start to clone.
| | 03:07 | So, I'm going to say I'm going to clone
from right about here and I'm going to
| | 03:10 | start to clone into that little space there.
| | 03:15 | See what it's doing? And now,
I'm going to just kind of drag
| | 03:17 | from here, get another
little branch happening there.
| | 03:20 | And then, I'm going to just kind
of pull from, let's say, right here.
| | 03:24 | and kind of fill that up with that
space right in there, we're kind of filling
| | 03:28 | that up. See our tree
stump doesn't have that big
| | 03:31 | hole anymore. It might
not look perfect, but we're
| | 03:33 | going to fix it in a second. It's not that one.
| | 03:37 | Let's go with this one right here. There we go.
| | 03:39 | So, we've got this nice little, ideas
and imperfection because we can see they're
| | 03:42 | very similar in nature. So,
let's get rid of that one, and let's
| | 03:47 | close that off. Now, when
we put our staircase back in,
| | 03:50 | there's our staircase. And
there we can see that there, we've
| | 03:54 | covered that little space back there.
Now, we're going to do additional things
| | 03:58 | to it. We're going to add some shadows and all
| | 04:00 | kinds of stuff. So in the
next movie, what we're going to
| | 04:02 | do is bring in the doorway
that these stairs are leading to.
| | 04:05 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Retouching the doorway| 00:00 | Now we're going to create the doorway.
A nice little door that is in this tree
| | 00:04 | where that gnome lives. So I
have a file here taken in a castle
| | 00:09 | in Germany somewhere. it's
not a great shot, obviously it's
| | 00:15 | been badly cropped,
missing a little corner here.
| | 00:18 | This is modern day light over here.
all we basically really need is this
| | 00:23 | entrance here, and part of this side.
Now we need to get rid of this wall.
| | 00:29 | And we need to rebuild where it's missing.
| | 00:31 | So what I'm going to do right off the
bat is go and increase the canvas size.
| | 00:36 | So it's the width is 13, so we'll go to 16.
| | 00:40 | And put the existing
image on the left. Click OK.
| | 00:43 | That gives me plenty of
room there in which to work.
| | 00:47 | So I'm going to get in real close.
Real close here, let's just get real
| | 00:50 | close into this area here. And
I'm going to kind of rebuild that
| | 00:54 | little arch. Now we see
the arch there, it is kind of
| | 00:56 | straight on but it is got
a nice little curve to it.
| | 00:59 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
do is I'm going to use my pen tool and
| | 01:02 | starting right there I'm going to kind
of create that same kind of a curve that I
| | 01:05 | want, right about something like that.
Its going to jut out just about like
| | 01:11 | that, right? There its
going to go straight back.
| | 01:14 | Now I see my angle's here, so now let's
put this right on that line and then move
| | 01:18 | this guy down. So that it
matches that line right there.
| | 01:22 | So there's my shape that I'm going to want.
| | 01:25 | Right there like that. So I
come over here and we close it off.
| | 01:30 | Let's hold down the option key when we
close it off, so we get a hard edge point
| | 01:33 | there, and we move that in position like that.
| | 01:38 | Then I'm going to create
another path, right here.
| | 01:41 | And this path is going to be
that little lip, that we see there.
| | 01:46 | Right there like that. And then
finally, this guy, which we're
| | 01:50 | going to go in and we're going to kind of,
let's see what it looks like on this side.
| | 01:56 | It has a little curve of its own.
Actually, looking at the stone now
| | 02:00 | there's a straight up. Yup,
that's that little piece there, this
| | 02:03 | is going to be straight up, so were going
to change that right and the bat and make
| | 02:06 | that straight. There we go,
that's straight up like that.
| | 02:11 | Then this guy that we started here were
going to go in and were going to give it
| | 02:14 | a little curve, just a little
curve that goes right into there.
| | 02:18 | And this one could go a
little, below. And close it off.
| | 02:23 | So those three paths are going to help
us rebuild the wall that's missing here.
| | 02:27 | So, and let's put them into a layer.
Let's create a layer where we're going to
| | 02:32 | create this effect. Now I got my
clone tool, here's my clone tool.
| | 02:36 | And I'm going to say use all layers.
And first thing I'll do is go in here and
| | 02:41 | take this one path, this first path. And
let's just get that right on the line there.
| | 02:47 | There it is, right on that line. Perfect.
| | 02:51 | Turn it into a selection. So I go to my.
| | 02:53 | Let's switch back to our, not our 3D, but
back to our Essentials where we have our
| | 02:57 | basic paths. So there we go.
| | 03:00 | So you can see I've tried these
before. But here's, here's my new path.
| | 03:04 | I'm going to turn then to
a selection. There we go.
| | 03:06 | So were going to turn this.
Just save that work path.
| | 03:10 | And there we are. So what I'm going to do is.
| | 03:13 | I just need to fill this area
in. So what I'm going to do.
| | 03:15 | Is take my clone tool. And I'm
going to clone from right here.
| | 03:19 | And then I'm going to match it up. Right there.
| | 03:22 | There's that match up. Right in there.
| | 03:24 | And I'm going to start to draw. And
there you can see that we've finished
| | 03:29 | off that little piece that was broken off.
| | 03:31 | So now, we're going to take that second
path, or actually let's take this last
| | 03:35 | one, okay, and we're going
to turn that into a selection.
| | 03:39 | And I'm going to pick this up dark,
right here, we're going to go right at the
| | 03:42 | edge, right there. Come over
here and match it, and fill
| | 03:47 | that up. Now it's okay if we go a little over,
| | 03:51 | because of the fact that the final
one is going to be this one here.
| | 03:55 | Now let's get this right on the line
where we want it, and we turn that one
| | 03:59 | into a selection.
We now pick up this color here.
| | 04:04 | So, let's get our clone tool and we'll
just pick it up, and again, I'm finding a
| | 04:07 | nice little seam like right there.
Match up that seam right about there, and
| | 04:13 | start to draw. You select, there we go now we've
| | 04:17 | completed that side. Now we
head down here, where we've lost
| | 04:21 | part of our wall. So, what
we're going to do here is we're
| | 04:25 | going to kind of clone from
another piece of the wall, right here.
| | 04:30 | So I'm going to clone. Pick up
that seam right there and then
| | 04:34 | kind of match it up here and start to draw.
| | 04:37 | And there you can see that I'm
just kind of, completing my wall.
| | 04:40 | Come down, and we're going to go in there
and, and and rough this up a little more,
| | 04:44 | so they kind of match a little better.
Well, there we got the basic shape going
| | 04:50 | right through there like that. Now,
I'm going to go and reduce my opacity.
| | 04:55 | Bring it down to about a, 30. And
then I'm going to clone these dark
| | 04:58 | tones into here. And let's
get this edge a little smaller,
| | 05:02 | or a little softer, rather. And I'm
going to just kind of very lightly.
| | 05:07 | Dab in these areas here. So that
they kind of match up, our tones.
| | 05:12 | And have them match in. So it
starts to look a little more uniform.
| | 05:15 | Now were going to complete
this little piece of stone here.
| | 05:19 | So again, I'm going to clone from right here.
| | 05:22 | From this edge. Match up
that edge right about there.
| | 05:25 | And go across. And now we
can bring our opacity back up
| | 05:30 | to 100%, and I'm going to just completely
fill this up and let's get this guy right
| | 05:34 | in there. There we go and
we start to fill all this up.
| | 05:40 | Right there like that. There
we can see that we're rebuilding
| | 05:44 | the wall that got damaged.
Or built over and so on.
| | 05:48 | And we got the basic doorway happening.
And then this up here, well, let's get
| | 05:54 | real close on that. And we see
we got this little bottom edge
| | 05:57 | that's just hiding our stone's piece there.
| | 06:00 | So, what I'm going to do again is from
the clone, I'm going to clone right here
| | 06:03 | from that little corner right there and
kind of match that corner up right there
| | 06:07 | and start to draw. And there
we can see that we're going to
| | 06:11 | go in there and we're going to start
to eliminate and we're a little off but
| | 06:14 | that's okay we can start to fix that up.
Let's pick from here and clone into there.
| | 06:20 | There we go that's
starting to fit a little better.
| | 06:24 | There we go, we got that guy,
and let's clone this guy into here.
| | 06:28 | And let's pick it from that corner
because that corner we have in place, and
| | 06:32 | then we just fill that up. Now,
the little pieces that are off no
| | 06:36 | problem, we can fix those. It's
just a question of getting there a
| | 06:39 | little closer, and remember that this is
a separate layer so I can go in there and
| | 06:42 | select that little piece that we
did and just kind of stretch it out.
| | 06:48 | There we go, see, that's it, we filled that in.
| | 06:50 | By just stretching it out to make it fit.
So, now we're going to match the rest of
| | 06:55 | the wall to make it look right. Now
there's a seam going right through
| | 06:58 | here, there's a seam right in there.
So we're going to find the seam.
| | 07:02 | This seam right there but we like
these tones up here, so let's just pick up,
| | 07:07 | tones from right up in that area. So I
get my Clone tool and where that seam.
| | 07:13 | And we'll match it up right
in there. And we start to draw.
| | 07:18 | Now we got a little bit of the top. No
problem, because we're going to go in
| | 07:20 | there and pick from different parts at a time.
| | 07:23 | I can even pick from right here and
kind of fill that up a little bit.
| | 07:27 | A little too far. There we go.
| | 07:29 | Let's just go and fill that in there.
And then let's start bringing in from
| | 07:33 | this wall. Now let's get the rest of that seam.
| | 07:36 | Right in there. And we just go straight up.
| | 07:40 | And clean that up. Now let's
finish off that seam, right up
| | 07:44 | in there. There.
| | 07:47 | So now we can just go in and eliminate the
rest of this little light structure here.
| | 07:53 | And we'll pick in from different parts so
that we don't get any sense of something
| | 07:57 | being Bring that right in there.
| | 08:00 | See how we finish that off? So, it
doesn't start to look like there's
| | 08:03 | a pattern in there. Like it
doesn't look like it was, in
| | 08:06 | fact, retouched. So I'm going
to just grab this seam here.
| | 08:10 | Match it up there and start to draw across.
| | 08:12 | There, we've cleaned that all up. Now,
here we've got another seam, so I
| | 08:17 | click there and drop. And
this is going to get rid of that
| | 08:21 | little That little damage or ,or the little
| | 08:24 | shadow in this case from the light
source and when we pull back there we see that
| | 08:27 | we have our completed doorway. Now
in the next movie what we are going
| | 08:32 | to do is select the doorway
and composite it into our scene.
| | 08:36 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Compositing the doorway| 00:00 | So now we're going to composite
the scene into our a overall scene.
| | 00:03 | So I did the retouching in a separate
layer so what we're going to do now is
| | 00:06 | we're going to flatten the
image. There we go flatten.
| | 00:12 | Now I've created a path that
ecompasses the entire doorway.
| | 00:16 | This is what we're going to go
and bring into the other scene.
| | 00:19 | So, I'm going to take that
path and make it a selection.
| | 00:22 | And then we'll bring it into our scene,
so I'm going to just take it and grab it
| | 00:25 | and bring it in. Now it's much
larger than our existing scene.
| | 00:29 | So I'm going to bring up the transform by
hitting Command+T, and then Command+0 to bring it
| | 00:32 | to full view so I can see what I'm doing here.
| | 00:36 | I'm going to hold down my Shift key to
constrain the reduction, I'm going to
| | 00:39 | shrink it way down to the size that I want.
| | 00:42 | That's fairly close maybe a little
smaller make it okay and let's go back to
| | 00:46 | a Full View so we can see
here exactly what we're getting.
| | 00:50 | Pull back just a little bit there we go.
So now my doorways facing in the wrong
| | 00:55 | direction so let's go and call it Doorway.
| | 01:00 | And we'll do a little Flip Horizontal on it.
| | 01:04 | There it is. And now, I'm going
to put it behind the staircase.
| | 01:09 | I want it behind the staircase and
I'm going to shrink it down some more.
| | 01:15 | There, it's about the
size of the actual staircase.
| | 01:18 | Here we go. Something like that.
| | 01:20 | And I'm going to rotate it a
little bit, just a little bit.
| | 01:23 | Get into shape there.
Right about where I want it.
| | 01:26 | Now, it's a little off as far
as perspective is concerned.
| | 01:29 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
hold down my Command key and kind of change
| | 01:32 | the perspective on the scene a little bit.
It's getting more in line with what the
| | 01:38 | staircase looks like. And now
we'll make it a little smaller
| | 01:42 | again, there we go. That's looking better.
| | 01:44 | And we'll put it right about
there, so that the staircase.
| | 01:47 | Let's, let's do a little more distortion here.
| | 01:49 | We'll kind of skew it
down this way. There we go.
| | 01:53 | That's looking a little better. And,
we'll bring it, make it a little bit bigger.
| | 01:59 | Just about like that. Let's make that happen.
| | 02:02 | Now, I'm going to go in here, and let's just.
| | 02:04 | kind of fit it in there, and we're going
to do a little retouching here and there,
| | 02:08 | just to make this all look really well.
Now, this whole side here, it's a little
| | 02:14 | off, so I'm going to get a little
closer, and I'm going to select that side.
| | 02:19 | do it with the good old Pen tool here.
And I'm just going to go ahead and click
| | 02:25 | away to select this entire side. There it is.
| | 02:35 | Now, I'm going to go ahead and
turn that path into a selection.
| | 02:40 | And now I can distort
this side the way I want it.
| | 02:43 | Bring up the transform tools and I'm
going to stretch it down like this.
| | 02:48 | And that's giving me more of the kind of
perspective that I'm looking for, right
| | 02:52 | about like that. Okay, I
might have to lift this up just a
| | 02:55 | tad right there to let it fit in there.
Right there, like that and that's looking
| | 03:01 | fairly good. Close this up a little and that's
| | 03:04 | starting to get the feel
that I want. Make that happen.
| | 03:08 | Reselect it and there's my doorway.
Now, let's pull back a little bit.
| | 03:14 | Now it's still a little
large but, it's going to work.
| | 03:17 | I'm going to go and rotate it just a slight bit.
| | 03:21 | There we go, that's now working much better.
| | 03:24 | All right, so I see that little bit
of an angle, little better angle there.
| | 03:30 | There we go. Now it's looking good.
| | 03:32 | Just bring this down. Make that happen.
| | 03:36 | There we are. So now I
gotta go in here and make this
| | 03:39 | blend into the tree. So what
we're going to do is give that a mask.
| | 03:45 | In that mask, we're going to go in
and start to blend it into the tree.
| | 03:50 | So I'm going to get my brush and
I'm going to make it much smaller.
| | 03:53 | And I've got black and what I'm going
to do is I'm going to just kind of slowly
| | 03:57 | start to paint in into this area.
Make sure I got 100% opacity and just
| | 04:02 | kind of paint in so that it
starts to blend into the tree.
| | 04:06 | Just the way I'd like it.
Right in there like that.
| | 04:09 | Okay. See anything in this side?
| | 04:14 | But now our little doorway is
going right into the tree itself.
| | 04:19 | which is kind of just go right in
there and get this all going, following the
| | 04:23 | shape of the tree. Now,
there's a little darkness in the
| | 04:27 | tree there. So let's go
back to the Tree layer and
| | 04:30 | Clone that. Let's clone that dark out.
| | 04:33 | So I'm going to get a much
smaller clone, and clone that area out.
| | 04:39 | There we go. So now it's
fitting in nice and neat.
| | 04:41 | Now, that side is also very lit.
That is a little too light.
| | 04:45 | So, still got that path from before? Yep,
there it is, but I need to adjust it
| | 04:49 | a little bit, so I am going to go in
there and just, make some adjustments to it.
| | 04:54 | cause it was redone. And put
that in place, that's fairly close.
| | 05:02 | And I'll make that a selection. And
then, just so we have a little more
| | 05:05 | control over this, I'm
going to do it in a layer above.
| | 05:10 | I put in a layer right above it here.
I'm going to get a dark tone like a black
| | 05:14 | and just fill that layer with black.
And I'm going to clip it with the doorway
| | 05:19 | just like that. Put it in
Multiply mode and then reduce
| | 05:22 | the opacity considerably so now we have
that darkness on that side of the doorway.
| | 05:29 | Still have the detail
but now it's nice and dark.
| | 05:32 | The building is now starting to look complete.
| | 05:35 | In the next movie what we'll do is
add our little spectator right here.
| | 05:40 | And the last movie we're going to add all
the shading that's going to complete this
| | 05:44 | whole scene. And do some
additional changes that we
| | 05:47 | can see necessary once everything is in place.
| | 05:50 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Selecting and compositing a person| 00:00 | So now I'm going to get this
spectator and put him into the scene.
| | 00:04 | I chose one of my hiking shots.
And there's my hiking buddies.
| | 00:07 | And that's my nephew Mark.
Other nephew Bill, my friend Chip.
| | 00:11 | Bill is going to serve as the hiker.
Or the explorer or whatever you want to
| | 00:16 | call him who just
happened upon this weird scene.
| | 00:19 | Now I'm going to choose him with
a path. I created a path for him.
| | 00:23 | It's the easiest way to, and quickest to
separate 'em properly without having to
| | 00:26 | worry about all kind of selection processes.
| | 00:29 | I just created a path. Which I'm
going to turn into a selection.
| | 00:34 | And what that selected, I'm
going to drag him in to our scene.
| | 00:39 | And it just happens to be the right
lighting to so that works really well.
| | 00:43 | I'm going to go in here and I'm
going to shrink him down a bit.
| | 00:45 | Holding down my Shift key to constrain
it and I'm going to shrink him down to the
| | 00:49 | size that I want. And about that size is good.
| | 00:53 | I'm going to put him right about here.
That's where he's going to be standing,
| | 00:56 | right about there. So now,
I'm going to hit OK and I am
| | 00:59 | going to darken him a little bit. I
want it to be a little more dramatic so
| | 01:03 | I'm going to do it with levels. So I
want some of those dark tones to get
| | 01:06 | a little darker, a little more
dramatic, right there like that.
| | 01:09 | And I might even go in there with my Burn
tool and just, kind of, hit certain areas.
| | 01:14 | Let's go into our mid-tones here and just
hit certain areas to make them a little darker.
| | 01:18 | Right along these sides here, like that,
there you go, just in there, under his
| | 01:22 | arm, just a little touch right
there just to make him a little darker.
| | 01:26 | Now he's got a casted shadow.
So what I'm going to do.
| | 01:29 | Is, I'm going to give him. Back in my layers.
| | 01:32 | I'm going to give him a Drop Shadow.
Go in there and say, Drop Shadow.
| | 01:36 | Click Ok. I'm going to call it Person.
| | 01:41 | And then, I'm going to
separate that Drop Shadow from him.
| | 01:45 | So I go over here in Layer
Styles and say Create Layers.
| | 01:48 | Now this just tells you,
you could see what it says.
| | 01:51 | I usually click on don't show again
but I got to leave it on there for now.
| | 01:56 | So there, person's drop shadow.
It's a separate layer so I can select
| | 02:00 | that layer. And I'm looking at the angles of my
| | 02:03 | shadows throughout the scene
so I have to conform to that.
| | 02:08 | So I'm going to do is I'm going to go
in there and I'm going to transform that
| | 02:11 | shadow so it matches that same direction.
going to bring this down here and bring
| | 02:16 | this down to here. So, he's
going to have this shadow.
| | 02:19 | And it's going to have to
be a little more this way.
| | 02:22 | So there it is. There's his
shadow that he's casting on
| | 02:25 | this scene. So we gotta,
feet in place, put that in
| | 02:28 | place, and there's this shadow.
We'll make it nice and long.
| | 02:33 | Let's lengthen this one here.
So he gets a nice long shadow.
| | 02:38 | Now, we might have to go in there and do
some retouching to this shadow, but you
| | 02:41 | get the general idea of where he's being placed.
| | 02:45 | So, let's bring this down and bring this
over just so we get a nice looking shadow.
| | 02:51 | Click OK. Now, looking at the way he's standing,
| | 02:53 | I'd seen his arm is out, so, somehow
it seems like the arm should be out.
| | 02:57 | So let's go in here and just look at
just that layer, just the shadow layer.
| | 03:01 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
come in here and I'm going to add to this.
| | 03:06 | I'm going to get my Clone tool, and
I'm going to say Clone from here at all
| | 03:09 | times, so don't align, align the samples.
Just click from here and I'm going to
| | 03:13 | just say, choose the current layer.
I'm going to kind of add the arm that
| | 03:16 | he's got bent over here. He's
got this arm that's just kind of
| | 03:20 | folded into place here. Just
going to go in there and add the arm
| | 03:24 | that's sticking out. It
doesn't have to be perfect because
| | 03:27 | again, you've got to realize
that it's an elongated shadow.
| | 03:31 | So when we go and look at the rest
there and we see that now this arm here is
| | 03:34 | casting that appropriate shadow there.
Now, I might want to add a little more
| | 03:39 | tone into this area here which we can easily do.
| | 03:43 | And then just bring them in
and the same thing with this leg.
| | 03:47 | Let's just close it off so we got a
nice full looking kind of a shadow.
| | 03:50 | Might want to add a couple little tones here.
| | 03:52 | And what I'm doing now is I'm just
kind of roughing it up a little bit.
| | 03:56 | Just to kind of make it look a little
more authentic and maybe make the head a
| | 03:59 | little larger. So there it
is, he's now in position.
| | 04:04 | Now in the next and final movie what
we're going to do is add all the little
| | 04:07 | details that are going to make the
staircase look like a fence and so on.
| | 04:12 | And the drama to the tree. All
the proper shading that's going to
| | 04:16 | make this thing really come to life.
| | 04:18 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding shadows| 00:00 | So now come the finishing touches
that will make this thing look real.
| | 00:03 | Well, for one thing the staircase could
use a little more modifying just to make
| | 00:06 | it fit better. So I'm
going to bring in the staircase
| | 00:10 | and I hit Command+T and I'm just going to
hold down the Command key to distort this.
| | 00:15 | Then I'm going to try to bring this up
a little bit into here, just like that.
| | 00:20 | And we'll move it over
just a little. There we go.
| | 00:22 | So now it kind of fits more
into that little socket there.
| | 00:26 | And it also fits into the
doorway above. Click OK.
| | 00:30 | Now, I'm going to take this staircase
and I'm going to give a, a little mask.
| | 00:35 | And in that mask, what I'm going to do is
I'm just going to go in and paint away so
| | 00:38 | that it starts to look like
it's going into this tree.
| | 00:44 | Just like so. Now it's
following the kind of the shape
| | 00:48 | of the tree itself. Now
looking at the tree, there's some
| | 00:51 | funny stuff going on in there. So
what we could do now is go to our tree
| | 00:55 | layer and with that clone tool, right
there, which is go in and clone this tone
| | 01:00 | right into the staircase. Now,
it's not taking it, we're in current
| | 01:07 | layer Line sample, and
let's see what's going on.
| | 01:12 | Okay, we're in the tree, and it's not
the tree there's this little retouch are
| | 01:17 | right there. That's where we're going to do it.
| | 01:21 | So, I got the all layers, and we're
bringing this dark tone right into there.
| | 01:26 | There we go. See?
| | 01:27 | There we go. You got to
make sure you're in the right
| | 01:30 | layer when you're working. All
right so now, now that we have that
| | 01:33 | what I'm going to do is I'm going to
turn the staircase into the selection.
| | 01:37 | Go to the Staircase layer , which is right
there, and I'm going to turn it to selection.
| | 01:44 | Then a whole new layer, say right behind
there on the tree, I'm going to create a
| | 01:48 | new layer in front of that retouched
area, create a new layer and fill that
| | 01:52 | with black. All right so
now what I'm going to do with
| | 01:58 | that is I'm going to do a little flip
horizontal on it and this is going to
| | 02:02 | become the basis for the
shadow of the staircase it self.
| | 02:08 | So I'm going to go on here and
I'm going to start to warp this.
| | 02:11 | And I'm going to take these corners here.
I'm just going to bring this guy way over.
| | 02:16 | To this way. And let's just
move the whole thing over.
| | 02:19 | So it starts to get this little
bit of a little shape in here.
| | 02:23 | Okay, so were going to start getting this.
| | 02:25 | And it's going to kind of wrap around.
I'm going to have it start wrapping
| | 02:28 | around the stair case, right here. And
then down here it's going to wrap around.
| | 02:33 | And then it's going to come around.
And just wrapping around this whole area
| | 02:37 | in here. Now, we click OK.
| | 02:41 | And then we're going to complete that shape.
| | 02:43 | I'm just going to bring this
whole thing all the way over.
| | 02:47 | Let's get a, a, a little lasso tool.
And right from this edge here I'm
| | 02:51 | going to just kind of connect it to there.
| | 02:54 | And fill that area with black. So there.
| | 02:57 | Now we've got this nice shadow happening
there, which I'm going to reduce in opacity.
| | 03:01 | So it's just like all the other shadows
throughout this whole scene here, okay.
| | 03:07 | Now the side of the staircase itself.
So we'll go to that staircase, let's go
| | 03:12 | to some. And let's start to say that these are
| | 03:15 | shadows, we'll say shadow. And
then the staircase itself, what I'm
| | 03:18 | going to do is I'm going to kind of
darken some of these areas in here.
| | 03:21 | I'm going to go in there and say, give
me my shadows and start to darken some of
| | 03:26 | these areas just to make it fit
more in to space there, just like that.
| | 03:31 | Now the Actual a shatter that we
created I'm going to give it a mask and in in
| | 03:35 | that mask I'm going to just kind of very
lightly actually not even give it a mask
| | 03:39 | what I want to do is just blur it just a
little bit a little Gaussian Blur just to
| | 03:42 | soften it up just a little bit.
Just a (UNKNOWN) little bit like that,
| | 03:49 | and then there's some parts that are
showing up over here, let's get rid of
| | 03:53 | those, we don't want those. Now,
the building, the doorway here is
| | 03:57 | going to cast its own shadow, so we're
going to have to go in there and create
| | 04:00 | that shadow, but that we're
going to do above the tree itself.
| | 04:05 | So, here, in a layer above the tree, and
above that retouching right there, we're
| | 04:08 | going to say another shadow.
Shadow of building and we're getting
| | 04:14 | close so we can see what's going to happen here.
| | 04:19 | And right here I'm going to draw using my
lasso I'm going to kind of draw a little
| | 04:23 | shape its going to go just like that
and follow this whole thing right here.
| | 04:32 | Just like that. And I'm
going to fill that, with black.
| | 04:36 | And I'm going to clip that, with the tree.
| | 04:40 | So it's going to be
confined to the area of the tree.
| | 04:43 | I put it in multiply mode, and bring down
its opacity so the tree will show through.
| | 04:48 | There we're getting that shadow there.
Now the shadows that we're going to need
| | 04:52 | are the shadows and features of the tree itself.
| | 04:55 | So that I'm going to do with a burn tool.
I'm going to go in here and set up my
| | 04:58 | midtones and I'm going to start
playing around with edge of this tree here.
| | 05:03 | We'll get a little closer and I'm going
just start to go into the tree right here
| | 05:07 | and start to darken This side, because
remember it is dark on that side, and here.
| | 05:14 | And then here, and then we're going to
kind of really emphasize some of these
| | 05:17 | tones in here. All right, there we go.
| | 05:20 | And then we got that little, retouch area.
| | 05:23 | Let's just darken that
guy a little, right there.
| | 05:26 | And let's go back and
continue with this, with the tree.
| | 05:30 | Add some more tones in there, just
darken it some more, darken on this side.
| | 05:34 | Darken this entire side over here.
That's all out of our field of vision.
| | 05:39 | Darken these up here. This guy
could be very dark, because he's
| | 05:42 | behind this big limb here, which I'm
going to go ahead and darken that as well.
| | 05:47 | That's going to have its own shadow right
in there, and there we can see that we're
| | 05:51 | starting to get all of these nice
dramatic tones to our tree to make it all
| | 05:54 | look like it is in fact in this scene.
And once we have all the shading that we
| | 06:00 | want, we can pull back and there we
see the completed scene of our tree
| | 06:03 | somewhere in the middle of nowhere with a
staircase leading to a little gnome's house.

9. Enchanted ForestIntroduction| 00:01 | Dreamscape is going to
take us into fantasy land.
| | 00:03 | It's going to take us into a
beautiful enchanted forest at night.
| | 00:08 | With strange glows and giant
mushrooms and even a little fairy standing and
| | 00:12 | hanging out by her mushroom.
| | 00:14 |

| Isolating and compositing the forest| 00:00 | For our forest scene, we're
going to use two different forests.
| | 00:04 | Let's start with this one. Now,
this forest here is going to be the
| | 00:07 | one in the foreground. And I
need to go in there, and just
| | 00:10 | isolate these trees and pick 'em up.
So that I can put some stuff behind it.
| | 00:15 | Now, fortunately the sun was very bright
that day, and I was in the middle of this
| | 00:18 | little redwood grove. So,
it was kind of dark in here.
| | 00:22 | That exposed so I can get the detail
on the trees, which made everything back
| | 00:26 | there wash out, which is perfect. So,
I'm going to look at the particular
| | 00:31 | channel that has the most
contrast so I can use that as a basis.
| | 00:34 | And the red and green are pretty close,
I'm thinking I'm going to go with the
| | 00:37 | green, it has a little more detail.
I'm going to go in there and duplicate
| | 00:41 | that green channel. And I'm
going to go to my levels, where
| | 00:44 | I'm going to go over there and really
pump it up so that all the trees and
| | 00:47 | everything over there is
going to get nice and black.
| | 00:51 | Hey there we go, getting all nice and
black, and my whites they well they were
| | 00:54 | pretty white already, let's
just make them totally white.
| | 00:57 | And push this all the
way in like that, click OK.
| | 01:01 | Now some of these areas down here, this
is the ground, it's just lightened up by
| | 01:04 | the sunlight. I would like
to have some of that stuff.
| | 01:08 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going
to go in there and, with my paint brush,
| | 01:11 | make sure I've got a slightly harder edge.
| | 01:15 | I'm going to go in there and just
paint this stuff to black, just like that.
| | 01:20 | Make sure I get all that nice
ground cover going, just like that.
| | 01:24 | There we go. All right, so
now I'm going to invert this.
| | 01:27 | So that my trees are the things
that are going to be selected.
| | 01:30 | And here I see some more,
let's switched to white.
| | 01:33 | And let's make sure we get that
nice little area in there, picked up.
| | 01:37 | Okay, so now that we have that, I'm
going to go in and I'm going to take the
| | 01:39 | alpha channel and turn it into selection.
So I can take my trees and send them to a
| | 01:44 | new layer, via cut. And now
they're in their own layer.
| | 01:48 | There they are. So, I can
take this background layer and
| | 01:50 | just kind of, maybe throw it away, but
you know what, I'm going to keep it and
| | 01:54 | I'm going to invert it. So now that
will be that night time back there.
| | 01:59 | All right, now we're going to
manipulate these trees a little further.
| | 02:02 | But I got my background selected, so
something that I bring in is going to
| | 02:04 | automatically come in on top of it.
And, that's where my second forest is
| | 02:08 | going to come in. This
forest here is going to be the
| | 02:11 | background forest, a little further
back, and right now it's a little angled,
| | 02:14 | because I was shooting up at
these trees that were up on a hill.
| | 02:19 | So, what I'm going to do is, I'm going
to double-click on that to turn it into a
| | 02:21 | layer, right off the ****. Click OK.
| | 02:24 | And I'm going to go in
and use my Transform tools.
| | 02:27 | Hold down my Command key, so I can use is
as a distort, and I'm going to distort these
| | 02:31 | guys out, to kind of
straighten them up. They, there we go.
| | 02:35 | So now, they're nice and straight up and
down, just like the rest of the trees in
| | 02:38 | this forest. There we go.
| | 02:40 | Click OK, and there they are.
Now, I'm going to go in there and
| | 02:44 | separate them as well so that
I can kind of pull them out.
| | 02:49 | And we'll do it the same way.
We're going to look at the channels and
| | 02:52 | see which one is going to
give us the best contrast.
| | 02:54 | In this case it looks like the red
actually, the green, yep, the red's the one.
| | 03:00 | So, I'm going to go into the reds,
right there, and I'm going to go and do the
| | 03:03 | same thing in Levels. I'm
going to pump up those blacks.
| | 03:07 | Big time. And the grays.
| | 03:10 | Now here I don't worry about the
ground because it's just the trees that are
| | 03:12 | going to be seen back there. Now I
click okay, and let's invert this,
| | 03:15 | see how it's looking.
That's looking pretty good.
| | 03:18 | But just in case, you know what, just
for the sake of it, because we can, I'm
| | 03:22 | going to go ahead and whiten this stuff here.
| | 03:25 | Just to make sure we get all of that tree
in there, and we want all that good stuff.
| | 03:29 | All right, go in there, turn that into
a selection, and I'm going to take those
| | 03:34 | trees and bring them into the guy back here.
| | 03:38 | Now they're going to
automatically fall in back, see?
| | 03:40 | There they are. They're back there.
| | 03:41 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
shrink them down a little bit, because I
| | 03:43 | want them to be even further away.
So I'm going to do it from the center
| | 03:47 | out, I'm just shrinking these guys
down into this area just like that.
| | 03:51 | So we have some trees back there.
There they are, way back there, there's
| | 03:55 | some trees. Now, I'm
going to pull them up so they
| | 03:57 | become really tall. There's some trees.
| | 04:02 | Okay, click OK, and that's looking pretty good.
| | 04:06 | Now, I'm going to start to manipulate
these for us in the next movie, and do a
| | 04:09 | few other little things that are going to
start to make it look like an enchanted forest.
| | 04:14 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Colorizing the forest| 00:00 | So, now we're going to start to add
the colors that we want for our forest.
| | 00:04 | So, let's start with the
one in front, here we go.
| | 00:07 | And let's call this Forest in Front
and let's call this one Forest in Back.
| | 00:13 | All right, the Forest in Front, so I'm
going to go into my Adjustments here and
| | 00:16 | go to Hue Saturation because that's
going to be the one where we colorize things.
| | 00:21 | So, what I'm doing is I'm going to pump up
the Saturation, make them really colorful.
| | 00:26 | Then I'm going to bring down
the Lightness, make them dark.
| | 00:30 | There you go. Now, we get this
nice deep tones in this forest.
| | 00:34 | And the Saturation, that looks
pretty good, let me click OK on that.
| | 00:39 | Now, the one in back, we're going
to do the same thing to that one.
| | 00:43 | Now, for that one, I'm
going to give it one more thing.
| | 00:45 | Let me go in Layers and I'm going to go
down here to Matting, I'm just going to
| | 00:48 | say Move White Matt, just to tone down
some of that white, which just went back
| | 00:51 | just a little. And then
we're going to go do same thing,
| | 00:55 | Hue Saturation. And there,
what we're going to do is
| | 00:58 | bring down the Saturation
and bring down the Lightness.
| | 01:01 | So, that becomes this forest way in
the back, see there's just a hint of that
| | 01:04 | forest way back there, click OK. But
now we're starting to get the sense
| | 01:09 | of the time of day. Now, this
stuff in here well we're going
| | 01:12 | to work with that in a second because
you're going to totally add the mystic
| | 01:15 | effect that's going to make this really
start to look like an enchanted forest.
| | 01:20 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding mushrooms| 00:00 | Now we're going to add some stuff to the
Foreground, we're going to add some mushrooms.
| | 00:05 | I have here a large mushroom. Now
I'm going to pretty much do with this
| | 00:10 | what I've done with most of
these images, to separate it.
| | 00:14 | I can go in there and create an alpha channel.
| | 00:16 | I made a copy of the red channel in
this case, which I then modify to end up
| | 00:20 | looking like that. Let's go
back to the RGB, that's what we
| | 00:23 | want to select. So I'm going
to go there and select that,
| | 00:26 | and we'll bring that into our scene.
Now it's telling me it's a different
| | 00:29 | color, but these are from different
sources, different cameras, and so on.
| | 00:33 | So, I'm going to just say go
ahead, do it, there's this mushroom.
| | 00:36 | And the same thing with
these little mushrooms here.
| | 00:39 | I've already gone ahead and made the
layer, there's the layer right there.
| | 00:43 | So, I'm just going to grab that layer
and bring it into the scene as well.
| | 00:47 | Okay, so now going to modify these a little bit.
| | 00:50 | Let's take these little ones and
let's put them down in here, right down in
| | 00:53 | there like that. And then
the larger one, the larger one,
| | 00:56 | we're going to have to modify a little bit.
| | 00:59 | So, I'm going to go in there and go into
my Transforms and shrink it down a little
| | 01:02 | bit and let's put it in position, bring
it down I think a little bigger, bring it
| | 01:06 | down a little, this big
one down in there like that.
| | 01:10 | There, now that's looking pretty good.
Now, these guys are all pretty much in
| | 01:14 | the same little patch. So, what
I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 01:18 | merge them together and
merge this down so they're one.
| | 01:22 | And now I'm going to go in there
and I'm going to colorize them.
| | 01:26 | I'm going to go in and I'm going to
say Colorize, they're all be in one
| | 01:29 | particular shade, I'm going
to make a little warmer there.
| | 01:33 | Pump up that Saturation a little bit,
like that and make them a little darker.
| | 01:36 | Okay, so now I'm going to go into my
Levels, where I'm going to go in and just
| | 01:39 | increase that Contrast a
little bit between them.
| | 01:43 | Right in there, get some
of those midtones going.
| | 01:46 | And in the process of doing
that, they got a little brighter.
| | 01:49 | So I'm going to go back into Hue
Saturation, tone down that Saturation a
| | 01:52 | bit, and make them even darker.
because they're way in the foreground
| | 01:56 | here, so we don't want them to be too
obtrusive and just take a command of
| | 02:00 | what's happening. And click OK,
so that's starting to look good.
| | 02:06 | Now we got our forest
with our mushrooms in place.
| | 02:09 | In the next movie, what we're going to
start to do is to add some stuff coming
| | 02:12 | down from above, we're
going to create some vines.
| | 02:16 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating vines| 00:00 | So now, we're going to create some vines.
We want some vines to be hanging in this
| | 00:03 | forest here. Just to make it
look even more kind of savage-like.
| | 00:07 | So, create a whole new file and
let's make it a little bigger.
| | 00:11 | And, let's check the resolution of our
existing file, so we're going to be close
| | 00:15 | to that 72 dpi as well. So, that's good.
| | 00:19 | So, let's go in here and
say New. And 12 by 12 is good.
| | 00:22 | Click OK. So we have a blank screen right here.
| | 00:25 | And what we're going to do is create some vines.
| | 00:29 | Now, the vines that we want to have,
have all this moss hanging down from them.
| | 00:33 | So what I'm going to do
is first, create some moss.
| | 00:36 | So I got a brush here and
it's not completely hard.
| | 00:40 | It's got, a little bit of a softness to it.
| | 00:43 | So, I could kind of see where it is right there.
| | 00:45 | Let's Undo that and let's make it kind of small.
| | 00:48 | And what I'm going to do here
is create the moss hanging down.
| | 00:52 | I'm going to just going to go in here and
just create this little thing like this.
| | 00:59 | It can have a few little
holes in there, no problem.
| | 01:02 | And I'm going to bring down the opacity a
little bit to about a 70 and start adding
| | 01:07 | some little areas along the edges.
And I'm going to make it a little
| | 01:12 | smaller, and start getting really tight
down here, there's a little stuff hanging down.
| | 01:19 | Okay? You might say, well it
doesn't look like anything.
| | 01:22 | But when put into context,
everything starts to become something else.
| | 01:26 | We create that illusion. So
there, we have this little hanging
| | 01:29 | moss there. So what is that going to be?
| | 01:33 | I'm going to select that and turned
it into a brush, the fine brush preset.
| | 01:40 | Now we're going to call this hanging moss.
| | 01:42 | Let's get really specific.
Now we can throw it away.
| | 01:48 | So now, I got my paint brush and I'm
going to select that brush, which will
| | 01:52 | appear at the bottom. There it
is and right now it does that.
| | 01:58 | Okay, let's get our brush to 100
%, and like I said, it does that.
| | 02:02 | That's kind of nice in itself, but we're
going to go in there and modify that brush.
| | 02:06 | So, what we're going to do is, in our
brush engine, we're going to give it some
| | 02:10 | spacing, spacing like, about like that for now.
| | 02:14 | And we're going to go into Shape Dynamics.
| | 02:16 | Now, no angle shift at all and
we're not going to go with Direction.
| | 02:21 | We're going to turn that off as well.
So they're all straight up and down.
| | 02:24 | Okay? And we have a Size Jitter.
| | 02:26 | So we're going to keep that Size
Jitter and make sure we don't get too small.
| | 02:30 | So we got it about like that. All right?
| | 02:33 | That's looking good. And
Roundness, we might want to play with
| | 02:36 | the roundness. So we want
something that to be a little
| | 02:39 | bit shorter and size and so on. Okay?
| | 02:41 | So there we go. So now,
our moss is going to start to
| | 02:44 | look like this. See?
| | 02:46 | It's starting to have a
whole different look to it.
| | 02:50 | So let's get rid of that. Add in a new layer.
| | 02:53 | We got our moss. Let's
make the size much smaller.
| | 02:56 | About like that and I'm going
to create a couple of paths.
| | 03:01 | A couple of big arks, one right here. I
hold down my Shift key to constrain it
| | 03:06 | to straight up and down, and come
way down to about here and pull.
| | 03:11 | And come back up and pull. All right?
| | 03:14 | So now, let's get this nice and
straight in the middle, like that.
| | 03:18 | Then I'm going to create
another path, right here.
| | 03:22 | This path is not going to be as
long. Let's go right up in here.
| | 03:27 | There we go. And let's make
this guy a little smaller,
| | 03:30 | like that. It's a little longer.
| | 03:33 | There, he's just not as down as the other one.
| | 03:36 | All right, so we have two different paths.
So, in this layer, I'm going to take that
| | 03:39 | path and let's just check our little mouse here.
| | 03:43 | That's the size of it right now.
Make it a little smaller, there we go.
| | 03:47 | And in that particular layer, I'm
going to take that path alone and go
| | 03:50 | ahead and stroke it with our
little brush we just created.
| | 03:55 | There we go. We have that.
| | 03:58 | So now, we're going to take this one.
And, in the other layer, another layer on
| | 04:02 | top of that, this, we're
going to make it a little longer.
| | 04:06 | We're going to make the brush a
little bigger, and we're going to take that
| | 04:09 | path, and in that second layer,
we're going to go ahead and stroke it.
| | 04:13 | So there, now, we're starting to get our
sense of what this thing is starting to
| | 04:17 | look like. Okay.
| | 04:18 | So now, let's turn off our paths for
now and we're going to get another brush.
| | 04:24 | But this time, we'll use one that exists,
so I'm going to take, let's just say, oh,
| | 04:28 | let's look at the, this one. This
is a pretty murky looking brush.
| | 04:32 | It does, does kind of a thing. All
right, so, let's go into our Brush
| | 04:36 | Engine and we're going to modify this.
We're going to give it a little spacing
| | 04:39 | and we're going into those Shape Dynamics.
| | 04:42 | We're going to turn this off. We
don't want any change, but we are
| | 04:44 | going to do a size change. Go to
100%, make sure it don't get to
| | 04:48 | small and an angle change of 100%, see?
Creates that kind of an effect there.
| | 04:54 | And were going to play around with the
Roundness a little bit, just a little.
| | 04:57 | Let's get this down, bring this up a little bit.
| | 05:00 | There, were starting to get
this kind of effect here, okay?
| | 05:04 | And on this Size Jitter, let's
just not make it that pronounced.
| | 05:08 | There we go, alright. So now,
now that we have that, it's
| | 05:11 | going to look like that. All right,
so now, in another layer, on top
| | 05:16 | of this guy right here. And let's
start giving these guys some names.
| | 05:22 | This is the smaller one way in
back. We'll call this the far moss.
| | 05:27 | And, what do you think
we're going to call this one?
| | 05:30 | Near moss. So this, we're
going to call far vine and
| | 05:35 | we get our path. There, there is our path.
| | 05:40 | All right, so, and let's Save
the path so we know where it is.
| | 05:42 | Okay. There's that path in the back.
| | 05:45 | Now we got that new brush that we
just created, and how big is it?
| | 05:48 | A little too big. So let's go in
there and make it a little smaller.
| | 05:51 | Maybe not that small. A little bigger.
| | 05:55 | And that's the real beauty of Undo. Is
that you use it to test something, and
| | 05:59 | then, you can undo it. That's
the one we want right there.
| | 06:03 | So, let's Undo that. And in
that far vine, we go ahead and
| | 06:07 | stroke that path with that new brush.
Then we take the near vine and we create
| | 06:14 | a new layer and call it near vine.
And we make that brush a little bigger,
| | 06:20 | then we get that and we'll stroke it.
Okay, so now, we're starting to get there.
| | 06:28 | Now, let's go back in here and
we have our far moss right there.
| | 06:33 | I'm going to move it down
a little bit. There we go.
| | 06:35 | We're just moving it down, so that we get
this moss, look like it's just hanging there.
| | 06:39 | There's a couple of pieces that are off.
We're going to fix those in a second.
| | 06:43 | We're going to do the same thing now to
the near moss, we're going to move it down.
| | 06:47 | There we go. All right.
| | 06:51 | So, now, we'll go in
there and start to fix these.
| | 06:55 | So, I'm going to take on near moss and
just bring down the opacity a little bit,
| | 06:58 | so I can kind of see what's going on here.
| | 07:01 | So now, the parts that are extending
beyond, we're going to go in there and
| | 07:05 | erase those. So I'm going to get my Eraser.
| | 07:09 | Here's a case where we don't really need
to use a Layer Mask, because eventually,
| | 07:12 | these two are going to kind of work together.
| | 07:15 | I'm going to go in there and start to
erase the parts that are Extending beyond
| | 07:22 | our actual vine. And we could be fairly rough.
| | 07:28 | It's okay because we just need to just
go in there and get rid of that stuff.
| | 07:32 | And on this side, we don't seem
to have that much, no problem.
| | 07:35 | Let's go in there and just get
rid of the stuff we don't want.
| | 07:38 | Okay? And the ones that are a little lost
| | 07:42 | there, we're just going
to kind of push those up.
| | 07:45 | So we'll get our Smudge tool, I'm just
going to kind of push them in so that
| | 07:49 | they meet our vine, right there.
There we go and we do the same thing to
| | 07:53 | the one in the back. Let's get
this to join in there, and when
| | 07:57 | we bring back the opacity 100% there, we
see that we have all that nice vine just
| | 08:01 | hanging there and we'll do
the same thing to the other one.
| | 08:06 | Now, in the next movie, what we're going
to do is we're going to take these vines
| | 08:10 | and composite them into our
scene and then light them.
| | 08:14 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding glow| 00:00 | Before we composite our vines into the
scene, let's start adding the glows that
| | 00:04 | are going to make that forest look enchanted.
| | 00:07 | So I'm going to go back over to the
Forest file here, and I'm going to Select
| | 00:11 | the Forest in Back. And right
there I'm going to create a new
| | 00:15 | layer in between the two, right
there, I'm going to call that Glow.
| | 00:19 | So that glow is going to appear between
the two forests, the one in the front and
| | 00:23 | the one in the back. So what
I'd like to do is I'm going to
| | 00:27 | pick a nice kind of a yellowish tone,
let's get a nice bright yellow like that.
| | 00:32 | And with my Gradient tool, set to
Foreground to Transparent, and Radial,
| | 00:36 | I'm going to go in here and draw a
little tiny little Gradient, like that.
| | 00:42 | Now, I'm going to go in
and give that a Layer Style.
| | 00:45 | Give it a Layer Style of Outer Glow.
And I'll change that Outer Glow color to
| | 00:49 | a bright green, like that, and you can
see what's starting to happen back there.
| | 00:55 | Click OK. I'm going to make that size a little
| | 00:57 | bigger, make it look a little larger there.
| | 01:00 | So we get that nice glow happening. Click OK.
| | 01:03 | And that's the beginnings of our glow
which I'm not going to go in there and
| | 01:06 | take that and bring down its Opacity a
little bit just so we could start to see
| | 01:10 | the trees behind. Then I'm
going to duplicate it, and I
| | 01:14 | want it back, the original. I'm
going to go into Transform tool.
| | 01:18 | And I'm going to stretch
it out, way out like that.
| | 01:23 | And make it a little taller, like that.
Now we're going to bring down its Opacity
| | 01:28 | a little more. So we can
just see those trees in back,
| | 01:31 | there we are. So then the
tool, I'm just going to move
| | 01:33 | them up a little bit, just so
they're a little higher up in our scene.
| | 01:37 | So I'm going to use my Move tool and I'm
taking my Cursor keys and just click in
| | 01:40 | up and down, so there we go. Our
glow is starting to go up, and you
| | 01:44 | could just make out those trees in the back.
| | 01:46 | See, that's why they didn't have to be
that perfect, because that's just a hint
| | 01:49 | of trees is making the
forest look a little denser.
| | 01:52 | But somewhere in between there, there's
this weird glow, which is going to start
| | 01:56 | making our forest look enchanted. Now,
to add that glow to the rest of the
| | 02:01 | scene, what I'm going to do is I'm
going to go to my forest here, then I'm
| | 02:03 | going to pick up that green.
Let's get that nice green color again.
| | 02:08 | And I'm going to get my
Paintbrush, and I have it set to Color.
| | 02:12 | And down here in that forest, I'm
going to start to paint, and what's
| | 02:15 | happening here is just a glow. A
glow going down to the floor of the
| | 02:19 | forest here and I'm going to make sure
it's totally soft and I'm going to bring
| | 02:22 | down the Opacity too, let's say about a 30.
| | 02:26 | Make my brush a little larger. I'm
just going to kind of add a little
| | 02:29 | more glow to the forest floor here,
just to make it look like that glow is just
| | 02:32 | hitting everything. The
trees, mushrooms, they're all
| | 02:36 | going to get their glow a little later.
But now, we've set the stage and next
| | 02:41 | we'll bring in those vines.
| | 02:43 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Compositing vines| 00:00 | So, now that we have our enchanted mood
setup for our forest here, let's bring in
| | 00:04 | those vines. Head over to
the file with the vines, and
| | 00:08 | I have all four vines selected. See
that, and I also re-arranged them so
| | 00:13 | that the two near are together
and the two far are together.
| | 00:17 | So, what I'm going to do now is I'm
going to bring them in mass over to my
| | 00:20 | other file. And there they
are that little tiny guys,
| | 00:24 | but no problem because what's going to
happen is that we're going to put them in
| | 00:27 | position and we're going
to do a little Transform.
| | 00:31 | Command+T, to bring up the Transform
tools that I'm going to just going to enlarge
| | 00:34 | these guys and put them in position right
where I want them, right up in there like that.
| | 00:40 | That looks fairly good, maybe a little
bigger so that goes into that live area
| | 00:44 | there, good, that's there. Now
I'm going to take the near ones, and
| | 00:47 | I'm going to duplicate them, hold down
my Option key and just drag them until we
| | 00:50 | see that little line between the
layers, and it makes copies of them.
| | 00:55 | And those two copies I'm going to bring
over here, and I'm going to make that larger.
| | 00:59 | And we have this nice little vine
that's just kind of happily living back here,
| | 01:03 | right in there, and click OK. So, now
we have these three sets of vines here.
| | 01:08 | All right, so now, we're going to go in
there and colorize these, because right
| | 01:11 | now they're all black. So, what
I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 01:13 | start working on this first one
here, which is fairly close to us.
| | 01:16 | So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to
take the vine itself, I'm going to lock
| | 01:19 | the transparency and I've got to pick a color.
| | 01:22 | We'll pick it right from this mushroom here.
| | 01:24 | We'll pick some of these dark browns
right in here, and we'll see how that
| | 01:28 | starts to look. I go in there,
and I'm going to fill it.
| | 01:32 | I'll fill it with the foreground color,
which we picked a nice deep brown, click OK.
| | 01:38 | And there, we have that
nice brown going on in there.
| | 01:40 | Now we're going to play
with this a little bit later.
| | 01:42 | So, we're going to start adding some glows.
| | 01:45 | So, that's pretty good for now. So,
I'm going to go into my near vine
| | 01:48 | back here. And I'm going
to lock its transparency
| | 01:51 | and we'll get a slightly
lighter version of that brown.
| | 01:55 | In fact, we'll pick it again from right here.
| | 01:58 | A little lighter there,
about like that, that looks good.
| | 02:01 | And I'm going to go ahead
and fill that with that color.
| | 02:04 | And there we have that vine, which might
be a little light, so what we'll just do
| | 02:08 | is just darken it just a little bit, like that.
| | 02:11 | There we go, just so we have a
little hint of a vine back there.
| | 02:14 | And, of course, there's a far vine,
which, we're going to lock its
| | 02:18 | transparency and go ahead
and fill that with that color.
| | 02:22 | And that one could be a little
lighter because it's way back there.
| | 02:25 | Now that we have that, let's
do the same stuff to the moss.
| | 02:28 | So the moss, we're going to go in
here to the near moss copy here, lock its
| | 02:31 | transparency and we're going to to go
into the slight greens, kind of like
| | 02:35 | murky greens. Let's go
into the greens and we'll go
| | 02:39 | into something like, about
like that, kind of a mossy color.
| | 02:43 | And were going to go in and give her that.
| | 02:45 | It's a little light, so let's
go in there and darken that.
| | 02:48 | Almost black and say, moss, good, alright?
| | 02:51 | Now, that what were going to do is we
are going to make it a little darker.
| | 02:55 | See what we're doing here, and it's good,
click OK and we are going to give it some
| | 02:59 | noise as well. We'll go in
there and say, Add Noise.
| | 03:04 | Just enough noise, just a little bit,
just so that it starts to have this, kind
| | 03:08 | of a crinkly look to it,
like that, and we click OK.
| | 03:12 | We're going to do that to the other two
and then we'll be ready to start creating
| | 03:16 | our little fairy that's going
to be hanging out in this forest.
| | 03:21 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Isolating and compositing the child| 00:00 | Now we're going to add one of the
little denizens of this enchanted forest,
| | 00:04 | going to create a little fairy. And
for that purpose I'm going to use my
| | 00:08 | little grandniece June Mi. Not
the best shot in the world, so this
| | 00:12 | is going to be great. A
little faded out there, but this is
| | 00:16 | going to be just what I need.
Now to select her I created a path.
| | 00:22 | There's a path right there. So
what I'm going to do is, I'm going to
| | 00:24 | turn that path into selection so I can
now bring her into the scene right here
| | 00:28 | like this. Now, came into the scene.
| | 00:32 | Let's see where she came in. Right there.
| | 00:34 | Let's put her behind the mushrooms. So
I'm going to bring her down here, and
| | 00:39 | where are our mushrooms? Let's see.
| | 00:41 | Let's go down here, and our
mushrooms are somewhere in here.
| | 00:45 | Let's put it right here into foremost. Okay,
so, there's our mushrooms way up there.
| | 00:51 | All right, so let's put her right there.
Okay, and we're going to call this Fairy.
| | 00:56 | All right, so now you can see she's very bright.
| | 01:00 | We're going to do some adjusting to
her, but first let's get in place.
| | 01:03 | So, we're going to bring her over here
and she's going to be kind a hanging out
| | 01:06 | by the mushroom there. So, I'm
going to go in and there to my
| | 01:09 | Transform tools and shrink her down. Right
there and let's make it a little smaller.
| | 01:15 | About like that, and she's going to be
just hanging out by this little mushroom
| | 01:18 | here, alright. She's going
to be leaning her hadn't right
| | 01:21 | on that little mushroom. So what
were going to do is mask out the
| | 01:25 | mushroom so we can see her hand, and
maybe we'll bring her in front of this one.
| | 01:30 | There we go, that way when we add
her wings they'll really stand out.
| | 01:34 | So there we go were
going to put her right there.
| | 01:37 | And now we can make her a
little bigger. There we go.
| | 01:40 | She'll really look like
she's leaning on that mushroom.
| | 01:42 | Right about like that. Make that happen.
| | 01:45 | And let's get in real close, so we
can see what's going to happen here.
| | 01:48 | There's the mushroom. What
we're going to do is we are going to
| | 01:51 | do is take the mushrooms and reduce our
opacity, so we can see where her arm is.
| | 01:57 | And there's her arm right there. So
we are now going to go in real close.
| | 02:03 | And we're going to add a mask to the
mushrooms, and we're going to paint with
| | 02:07 | black 'cuz black hides. We're
going to make sure that the brush
| | 02:11 | is somewhat hard, pretty
close, and a really small brush.
| | 02:15 | That's going to be good, and I'm going to
start the paint, and I want to really see.
| | 02:19 | So let's bring it down even more. I
really want to see where her arm is, so
| | 02:23 | we can get closer, and I can now start
to go in there and bring up my opacity for
| | 02:26 | my brush. I can start to
erase her so that she is
| | 02:31 | visible right there on top of the mushrooms.
| | 02:34 | And just going to go in here and hide
these areas right here, right where her
| | 02:38 | arm is at the top of the mushroom
right there like that, there we go.
| | 02:43 | And her low finger right there and now
when we bring the opacity back up again.
| | 02:48 | We can see that she is now in fact
resting on top of the mushroom, now we
| | 02:51 | need to colorize here. So what
we're going to do is, we're going to
| | 02:55 | go the little fairy and we're going to go
into levels, where we're going to go and
| | 02:58 | start adding a little contrast to her.
There we go, so we start adding some contrast.
| | 03:05 | And then we're going to go into our hue
saturation, we're going to go in and just
| | 03:09 | bring down Tones. And pump up
that saturation just a little bit.
| | 03:16 | Now were going to add some glows here.
The green glows that are going to come
| | 03:19 | from this glow. So, you will be colorized later.
| | 03:22 | But that's the beginnings of her, right there.
| | 03:25 | That's going to start. Now one
more thing were going to do to
| | 03:27 | her is give her her own glow. So
I'm going to double click on it, and
| | 03:30 | give it a little outer glow.
Which we're going to go in there and
| | 03:34 | we're going to pick up that same bright
green that we have, because that's not
| | 03:37 | being caused by a whole
gaggle of these little fairies.
| | 03:40 | So I'm going to go in there and start
giving her a little bit of a glow, like that.
| | 03:44 | I'm going to bring down the opacity so
it's just a softening of that little glow.
| | 03:48 | Click Ok. And in the next
movie what we're going to
| | 03:50 | do is going to create some nice wings
that she's going to have right in there.
| | 03:54 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating wings| 00:00 | So now, we're going to give
our little fairy some wings.
| | 00:03 | I downloaded from the
Internet this picture of a dragonfly.
| | 00:07 | Now, these wings are the
kind of wings I want to have.
| | 00:10 | So, what I'm going to do is just go in
here and select this wing right here.
| | 00:15 | And I'll just make sure I get the
wing itself like that, and we'll copy it.
| | 00:20 | And I create a new file. (UNKNOWN)
reflect current contents of the clipboard.
| | 00:25 | So, what I'm going to do is I'm just
going to give myself a little more room
| | 00:29 | here, we'll make it 8x5 and I'll Paste.
And there's our little wing, right?
| | 00:36 | So, let me get a little closer here so
we can really see what's going to happen.
| | 00:40 | It's a little kind of lost. So,
what I need to do right now is I'm
| | 00:44 | going to go into my Levels and kind
of really darken those darks, and the
| | 00:48 | midtones I want to lighten up. I
want to darken those, I want to get
| | 00:53 | those darks really strong
just like that and click OK.
| | 00:56 | So, now looking at it, I'm going
to make it a little larger as well.
| | 01:00 | So, I'm going to go into my Transform
tool and just kind of do it from the
| | 01:03 | center out and just make a little bigger. So,
it kind of fills up the page right there.
| | 01:09 | Okay, looking good. So, what
I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 01:13 | Select it, Copy it, and I'm
going to take it to an alpha channel.
| | 01:18 | So right here, in an alpha channel,
I'm going to paste it right there and I'm
| | 01:21 | going to invert it. So now, we
see where it's starting to go
| | 01:25 | so here in the alpha channel is where
I'm really going to start to see this thing
| | 01:28 | come to life. So, I'm
going to go into my levels here
| | 01:33 | and really bring my whites
up and bring my darks down.
| | 01:37 | There we go. See now, we can see where this is
| | 01:40 | starting to take shape. Click OK.
| | 01:42 | And I want to get rid of that outer edge,
so I'm going to go in there and just
| | 01:45 | paint that out, get rid of that right
off the bat because we don't need that.
| | 01:51 | Now, in looking at it, we see that we got
a little pixelization going on in there.
| | 01:56 | In order to get rid of that, what I'm
going to do is I'm going to blur this a
| | 01:59 | little tiny bit, just going to give it a
little tiny Gaussian blur, just to soften
| | 02:03 | it up a little bit. Click OK.
| | 02:08 | Now, I'm going to go into my Levels again.
| | 02:10 | In the Levels, I'm going to make those
whites in, bring my blacks in, and you
| | 02:14 | can see what's starting to happen.
It's starting to sharpen up again, and
| | 02:18 | there we go. Now, we've got
some nice sharp lines that
| | 02:21 | don't really show all those
pixels that we had before.
| | 02:24 | Now in here, what I'm going to do is I'm
going to start to clean up little holes
| | 02:28 | that might have appeared. Like,
right in there, I'm just kind of of
| | 02:33 | fill that in and just do these little
manipulations right through there just to
| | 02:36 | make sure that I have all my little
lines all nice and even and clean.
| | 02:41 | There we go. So, now that we have this, this is
| | 02:44 | going to be the basis of our wings. Now,
the reason I'm doing it like this is
| | 02:49 | because I want to be able to
affect these little veins in my wings.
| | 02:54 | So, once I have everybody exactly the way
I want it, there you go, everybody is in
| | 02:57 | place and let's just close this guy off
and everybody is nice and clean, alright?
| | 03:03 | So now, go back to our RGB,
where we can throw away that layer.
| | 03:06 | We don't need that layer anymore.
But we are going to create a new layer
| | 03:10 | and what I'm going to do is I'm going to
invert my background so we can really see
| | 03:12 | the effect that my little
wings are going to have.
| | 03:15 | And now, I click in here, New Layer,
and I'll take my channel and I'm going to
| | 03:19 | load it. There it is.
| | 03:21 | And I'm going to fill that with a color.
And I want my little veins to be kind of
| | 03:26 | a warm color like that. So,
we're going to go ahead and fill that
| | 03:30 | with that color. And there, we
can see that we have the veins.
| | 03:33 | Now, the reason I like those in a
separate layer is because I can now go in
| | 03:36 | there and give them a Layer Style.
So, I go in there and just give it a
| | 03:42 | little Bevel and Emboss, and there you
can see how they become 3-dimensional.
| | 03:46 | So, I'm going to go in there and push
that depth in, bring the Size down to
| | 03:49 | about maybe a 2. Just so
they start to have a little bit
| | 03:53 | of a variance to it and the highlight
color, I might want to change that, I
| | 03:56 | might want to make that more
of an orangey color, like that.
| | 04:01 | Click OK and we put that in a Multiply
mode as well, so we start to see how we
| | 04:05 | got kind of this nice kind of
a golden vein happening there.
| | 04:09 | So, that becomes the basis of my wings.
Now, what'll happen now is that I'm
| | 04:15 | going to create a second channel,
which is a copy of the first.
| | 04:19 | And I'm going to fill in this area
here, all this area inside, with white.
| | 04:24 | And that's going to be the basis for
the skin or the film between the little
| | 04:28 | veins, which will allow
me to then add the color.
| | 04:32 | So, in the next movie, what
we're going to do is add that color.
| | 04:36 | But we're going to do that
once we're in the actual forest.
| | 04:40 | So, when I'm finishing this, you just wait.
| | 04:43 | And in the next movie, we'll
have these wings come to life.
| | 04:47 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Compositing the wings| 00:00 | So, here's our finished wings. Now,
the only thing I've done since the
| | 00:03 | last movie is that I just filled in that
second channel, which we want to look at it.
| | 00:08 | There's that second channel
which I, then, filled into a layer.
| | 00:12 | Let's go back to RGB, and I fill into
a layer just like that with a white.
| | 00:17 | And might want to just go
in there and clean those up.
| | 00:19 | It's not necessary because
it's just going to be soft skin.
| | 00:22 | So now, what I'm going to do is I'm
going to take both layers together and
| | 00:25 | bring them into my scene. So, I
dragged him over and there they are.
| | 00:32 | Now, they're a little small, so I'm
going to go right of the bat and make him
| | 00:36 | much larger. Like that.
| | 00:38 | And I'm also going to flip them
horizontally, so go in there and say Flip Horizontal.
| | 00:44 | All right. So now, I'm
going to take them and put
| | 00:46 | them in position right about here.
And now we see it's a little large, so
| | 00:49 | let's just make it a little
smaller. Little smaller, right in here.
| | 00:54 | Doesn't mean we can get kind
of like the whole wing in there.
| | 00:56 | Okay. There we go, nice little wing.
| | 00:58 | Okay. Now, we're going to need a second one,
| | 01:00 | put it right up in there. All right.
| | 01:03 | So, what I'm going to do is I'm going
to duplicate them and before I do that,
| | 01:06 | let's go in here and modify it. Now,
we've got the little skin, right?
| | 01:11 | Now, the lights, the darks
are coming from this side.
| | 01:14 | Let's change that, Bevel and Emboss.
Let's change that, Bevel and Emboss, so
| | 01:18 | that the light's coming
from this side. There we go.
| | 01:21 | Now, everything's shifted over and
little shadows are on that side there.
| | 01:24 | And then the skin area. What I'm
going to do is I'm going to pick
| | 01:27 | up a little green. I'm
going to pick up that same green
| | 01:29 | color we've been using but
a little lighter like that.
| | 01:32 | And I'm going to lock the transparency
for it, so I can just throw in a little
| | 01:36 | film of green. Okay.
| | 01:38 | Let's make the brush really large.
And throw a little touch of green right
| | 01:43 | in there like that. Maybe
a little bit at the end.
| | 01:46 | And then, what we're going to do
with the skin is bring down the opacity
| | 01:48 | considerably, so we can see through it.
And now it's just this little touch of
| | 01:52 | skin in there, but we could
see through it to the other side.
| | 01:56 | All right? So now, what
we're going to do with that
| | 01:59 | wing is we're going to take
both of them and duplicate them.
| | 02:03 | Option+click+drag, until we see that
little separation in between and we get
| | 02:06 | the copies. So now, the
ones in back, that's these
| | 02:09 | two here, we're going to do is we're
going to go in there and make them a
| | 02:12 | little bit smaller and rotate 'em.
And put 'em in position back in there.
| | 02:18 | There we go. And click OK on that.
| | 02:21 | And we're going to put
those behind the little girl.
| | 02:23 | going to put 'em right there. So,
they're coming in from the other side
| | 02:27 | of her back. And there's our little wings.
| | 02:30 | Now, what we're going to do is, we're
going to take that same effects that we
| | 02:33 | have for the fairy, and apply them to the skins.
| | 02:37 | Right there. And then,
we're going to apply to the
| | 02:40 | skins over here. Now, you
notice that we almost don't see them.
| | 02:44 | And I'll tell you why in a second.
So, we'll go to the other skins.
| | 02:48 | Right here. And apply that same thing again.
| | 02:50 | Apply it into veins, there's the skin.
And were going to apply those right into
| | 02:56 | the other skin right there. There it is.
| | 03:00 | So now, why aren't we seeing those?
That's because of the fact that we
| | 03:03 | lowered the opacity. So, what
I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 03:06 | go to that skin copy right there and
bring that opacity back up to 100%.
| | 03:10 | And what I'm going to lower is the Fill Opacity.
| | 03:14 | That way that skin is going to start to
disappear a bit but the glow will remain.
| | 03:18 | See, there's that glow.
let's bring that down even more.
| | 03:22 | There we go. And we go to
that other skin, the one in
| | 03:24 | back, and we're going to raise that
Opacity back up to 100% and take that
| | 03:28 | Fill Opacity way down. So,
this starts to disappear into the
| | 03:32 | background just like you
did with the first wing.
| | 03:35 | And there we see that now we
have the little wings on our fairy.
| | 03:39 | In the next movie, what we're going to
do is we're going to start to add the
| | 03:42 | effects of that glow on the rest of the
forest, the fairy, and the mushrooms in
| | 03:46 | the front.
| | 03:48 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating multiple fairies| 00:00 | So now what we need to do
is add a bunch more fairies.
| | 00:04 | So what I'm going to do is, I'm going
to go in here and create another file.
| | 00:08 | And that's good enough size because,
what I'm going to basically do is create a
| | 00:13 | little tiny fairy. So I'm
going to go in here and I got my
| | 00:17 | brush, make it nice and
hard, make it really tiny.
| | 00:22 | And I'm going to create a little
tiny fairy, make it even smaller.
| | 00:25 | And I'm going to go in here
and just create the little body.
| | 00:28 | Here's the little body. And I
make the brush even smaller, and we
| | 00:31 | have the little feet. And
then I'm going to bring down the
| | 00:34 | opacity for the brush, and
bring it down to about, say 70.
| | 00:38 | And I'm going to create the little wings.
I'm going to create a little wing like
| | 00:41 | that and another little wing like
that, and there's a little fairy.
| | 00:45 | Now I'm going to create another one
right here, and these wings are going to be
| | 00:48 | like this and like this. Just to
start adding a little variety to
| | 00:53 | our fairies, so I'm going to bring the
opacity back up and here we go, and add a
| | 00:56 | little body with the little
hands a little body little feet.
| | 01:01 | There we go. So this is
going to be two little fairy
| | 01:05 | brushes, select first one and I'm
going to say define brush, and well call
| | 01:11 | it Little fairy. And we'll
define another brush, and we'll
| | 01:19 | call this Little fairy two. So
now, we can throw this away say
| | 01:25 | goodbye to it, we don't
need it anymore don't save it.
| | 01:30 | Back over here again is another layer,
and in fact we're going to put this layer
| | 01:34 | right here let's put it right behind our moss.
| | 01:37 | But in front of our forest, right here
in front of the forest, which is add a new
| | 01:42 | layer and we'll call it Fairies.
And we get our paint brush and I'm
| | 01:47 | going to get that first little fairy.
There's that first one but right now does
| | 01:52 | is a little thing here like this.
So what we're going to do is we're
| | 01:55 | going to get a nice little color, just
going to kind of use a little gray or
| | 01:58 | maybe even a little pink
like that right does that.
| | 02:02 | All right so now, what we're going to
do and we'll make it a little darker.
| | 02:06 | There we go. I'm going to
go into my Brush Engine, and
| | 02:09 | we're going to give it a lot of separation.
| | 02:12 | We're going to separate these
fairies quite a bit, like that.
| | 02:15 | And we'll go into Shape Dynamics, where
we're going to have a little size jitter,
| | 02:17 | like that. Have a little
minimum setup there, like that.
| | 02:23 | And a little bit of an
angle shift, just like that.
| | 02:26 | Okay. But now we've got these little fairies.
| | 02:29 | So, I had that. I'm going to go
in here and just draw a couple.
| | 02:33 | And one more thing. I just realized.
| | 02:36 | Let's give it a little scatter on
both axis all the way across like that.
| | 02:40 | Right. So, I'm going to go in here and just draw
| | 02:42 | a bunch of little fairies like that.
And, looking at it, I'm going to give it
| | 02:46 | even more spacing. It's
always nice to do a little test
| | 02:48 | there just to see how it's going to work.
And we're going to give it a full spacing.
| | 02:53 | Go back into my scattering
and bring that count down.
| | 02:56 | We don't want a lot of them, right?
And we want that to go all the way.
| | 03:00 | Scatter as much as possible.
So now we draw little fairies.
| | 03:03 | There's a couple there, a couple more over here.
| | 03:06 | Make the brush a little bigger. And, we
draw a couple right in here, like that.
| | 03:11 | Then we're going to go in there and
assign a little outer glow to these guys.
| | 03:16 | And the color we're going to choose is that
nice green, that bright green right there.
| | 03:21 | Just like we had before. Click OK,
and make it a little bit bigger.
| | 03:27 | And bring down the opacity just a little.
So now we have all these little fairies
| | 03:31 | that are floating around. Once
we added that glow, they all start
| | 03:34 | to really come to life. Click OK.
| | 03:36 | And there we have little fairies that
are all flying in different directions.
| | 03:40 | And now what we're going to
do is, get that other brush.
| | 03:45 | we'll do the same changes to that.
We'll give it a lot of spacing, a little
| | 03:49 | shape dynamics, same
settings and the scatterings.
| | 03:53 | It's going to remember all the
settings from the last brush.
| | 03:55 | Click OK. And in another
little layer right here,
| | 03:57 | or we can even do it in the same layer.
because as we draw them, you're going to
| | 04:01 | see that it's going to create all the
same little fairies, all through this
| | 04:04 | area here in here like this. And
we get all these little fairies that
| | 04:09 | are just floating around,
like that, in our scene.
| | 04:12 | So now we got all these tiny little fairies.
| | 04:14 | So now, in the next movie, what we're
going to do is to add the effects of all
| | 04:19 | these glows on these
surrounding forests and mushrooms.
| | 04:25 | And our main little fairy in the front.
| | 04:27 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding glow to fairies| 00:00 | Now we're going to start lighting the
scene based on the light source, which is
| | 00:03 | way over here. And of
course, there's a light source
| | 00:06 | where we're standing from, which is
lighting up the mushrooms in the foreground.
| | 00:11 | But we're going to go in here
and add some more lighting to it.
| | 00:14 | The mushrooms themselves, we need to go
in there and look at those mushrooms, and
| | 00:17 | let's darken them just a little bit
more. Let's bring down the saturation.
| | 00:23 | A tad more and darken him a little more,
just to make him fit a little more into
| | 00:26 | this scene here. There we go.
| | 00:28 | Click OK. There starting
to look a little better.
| | 00:32 | But to them we now have to have the
effects of this big glow out here.
| | 00:36 | So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to
create a layer on top of it, right there,
| | 00:39 | and I'm going to clip it
with the layer of the mushrooms.
| | 00:44 | And I'll call it the glow. And
I'm going to pick up that same green
| | 00:48 | that we've got all throughout here.
Let's just go here, and let's pick it
| | 00:51 | right from here, and get it nice and
bright green right there like that.
| | 00:56 | And what I'm going to do is I'm going
to make sure that my brush is a nice soft
| | 00:58 | edge brush, like this one here. Get
the hardness way down and the size
| | 01:02 | well we'll determine that once we got in here.
| | 01:05 | Let's go in here and bring it in, and
what we're going to do is we're going to
| | 01:08 | bring down the opacity to about 50
% and slowly build up this glow.
| | 01:13 | And as I draw, you can see its just
falling right inside, its staying inside
| | 01:17 | the mushroom because of the fact that
we've cupped it with the mushroom layer.
| | 01:23 | And I'll make the brush a little larger.
And bring that opacity to about a 20.
| | 01:27 | I could just add a little bit
more of a glow right in there.
| | 01:30 | Now, I don't want the glow to
be inside the mushroom, here.
| | 01:32 | So, I'm going to go in and erase it, right
in this edge, because this edge is Underneath.
| | 01:38 | We don't need to see that. So okay?
| | 01:40 | Now we're going to take the brush and
just make it smaller, and just apply a
| | 01:43 | little bit of glow right in
here, and to this mushroom here.
| | 01:47 | Same thing with this edge, right there.
We just pick up a little bit of that light.
| | 01:52 | And this guy down here is going to pick up
a little bit of the light, as is this one.
| | 01:56 | Just a tiny bit of that light
being picked up along these mushrooms.
| | 02:00 | Now, I'm going to put that in a Screen
mode to see how that's going to look.
| | 02:04 | And then bring down the opacity. So
there's just this little hint of a
| | 02:07 | glow on the mushrooms. There we go.
| | 02:10 | Now here it kind of got lost, so we're
going to kind of increase it a little bit
| | 02:13 | on these edges of these
mushrooms. 'Kay, so there.
| | 02:18 | Now same thing with the
child or our fairy in this case.
| | 02:22 | There's a fairy. We're
going to add a layer to that.
| | 02:26 | Call it glow, and clip it
with the layer of the fairy.
| | 02:30 | And we're going to go in here and
just add a little green right into there.
| | 02:33 | Where it's just being picked up. Right there.
| | 02:35 | And along the side of her face, just
picking up that green from over there.
| | 02:40 | Right in there. Just the
sides that are facing the main
| | 02:43 | glow, so that her highlights are
now going into that same green tone.
| | 02:48 | And, we bring that into Screen mode.
And we can suggest a little bit, just a
| | 02:53 | little hint of that green in there.
Bring that opacity back up, and then
| | 02:58 | we've just have a little hint of that
green on the side of her face and on the
| | 03:01 | side of her hand, and so on, the
parts that are facing that light.
| | 03:07 | Now in the next layer what we're going
to do is to start adding the same effects
| | 03:11 | to the forest itself. That's going
to be a little bit more involved.
| | 03:16 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding glow to the forest| 00:00 | So, now we're going to add the
effects of that glow on the forest.
| | 00:04 | The forest is way down here.
You know, in fact, when we started
| | 00:07 | looking at this Layers panel,
it's starting to get pretty crowded.
| | 00:11 | There's a lot of stuff in
here. So, you know what?
| | 00:14 | Let's take a second and organize it. All right.
| | 00:16 | The mushrooms, well, they're
kind of there by themselves.
| | 00:19 | And we got the little wings
and the little fairy, right?
| | 00:22 | And all these little things here. So,
what I'm going to do is, right here,
| | 00:25 | on top of wing copy, which is this wing
back here, I'm going to say, make a group.
| | 00:31 | And we'll call this Main Fairy.
And what I'm going to is I'm going to
| | 00:35 | take the Wing copy, the Skin, Skin copy,
Glow, Fairy, Wing, skin, all those that
| | 00:41 | make up the fairy. And I drag
all of those into this folder.
| | 00:49 | There they are. So, now I can close that folder.
| | 00:51 | Now, all the things that make up
the Main fairy are in one folder.
| | 00:55 | Now, the vines, there's those vines.
So, right above this, we'll create
| | 00:59 | another layer and we'll call that Vines.
This is going to make it easy to organize
| | 01:04 | and find things because it's
getting kind of chaotic in here.
| | 01:08 | So, we're going to say, near vine
all the way down here to the far moss.
| | 01:13 | All those can go into there.
There we go, and we can close that.
| | 01:17 | See now? It's starting to
get a little more manageable.
| | 01:19 | We don't have to scroll so far. And
in fact here, what we'll do is, right
| | 01:22 | there, we'll just create one more
and we'll call this scene forest.
| | 01:27 | And in the forest, what we'll do is
we'll take all the pieces that make up the
| | 01:30 | forest and the glow. All the
way down to the back here and put
| | 01:35 | those into that folder. And there,
now we have a very manageable
| | 01:39 | Layer panel that you can see, that it's
not going to explode all over the place.
| | 01:43 | And now, we can just go to the
places that we need, which right now I'm
| | 01:47 | going to go into the Forest
folder and select the forest in front.
| | 01:52 | So, there's a forest in front. So,
what we're going to do here is add
| | 01:55 | that glow. And what I'm
going to do is I'm going to
| | 01:58 | double-click on it and give
it an inner glow right there.
| | 02:03 | See how everything started to happen there?
| | 02:04 | And that inner glow, what we're going to
do is pick up that same green we've got
| | 02:07 | for the fairies and everything else like that.
| | 02:11 | There it is, that inner glow. And
we can make it a little bigger too.
| | 02:15 | It's going to make it a little bigger. See?
| | 02:17 | So, that we can really see it on the trees.
| | 02:19 | There we go. We've got this
nice glow happening there.
| | 02:22 | Now, to click OK, right there. So
now, what's going to happen next is
| | 02:27 | that I want to go in there and
see that glow only in certain areas.
| | 02:33 | Basically, in this area right here. So,
what I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 02:36 | give it a mask. And I'm
going to hold down my Option key
| | 02:40 | to give it that mask, so it's a black
mask, which hides the entire contents of
| | 02:44 | that layer. Right?
| | 02:46 | But that hid the layer, so let's undo that.
| | 02:49 | What we're going to do is we're going
to take that glow which is created and
| | 02:52 | separate it from here.
because that's what we want to hide.
| | 02:55 | We don't want to hide the
forest. We want to hide the glow.
| | 02:58 | So, I'm going to go in there and say
Layer > Layer style > Create Layer.
| | 03:02 | And there you see that the
glow is now a separate layer.
| | 03:06 | So, I'm going to give the glow, that
Black Layer mask, Option > Click Layer Mask.
| | 03:11 | The glow disappeared. So, what
I'm going to do now is, using
| | 03:14 | from white to black, I'm going to take
my Gradient tool and make sure I'm going
| | 03:17 | from white to black there. And
in a radial gradient, I'm going to
| | 03:22 | draw a gradient right here. And
there you see that now the glow
| | 03:26 | appeared only where I want it to be,
only in the areas that are really close to
| | 03:31 | that main glow. And the
final touch for the forest is
| | 03:36 | going to be these trees right
here, should be casting a shadow.
| | 03:40 | So, what I'm going to do is right here
in front of this, I'm going to create one
| | 03:44 | more layer. And I'll call
it shadow (SOUND) and I'm
| | 03:48 | going to very quickly select right here.
I'm just going to go in here and kind of
| | 03:52 | create this little shadow here just like that.
| | 03:56 | Right there. And then
Shift to add another little
| | 03:58 | shadow right here. And in
that layer, I'm going to go ahead
| | 04:03 | and fill it with black. Okay, right there.
| | 04:06 | And then, I'm going to give it a
little Gaussian blur, just to soften up that
| | 04:09 | little shadow, right there.
There we go, making it nice and soft.
| | 04:15 | There we go, like that. Set
that up in Multiply mode and reduce
| | 04:18 | the Opacity a bit. Just so
it starts to become a little
| | 04:22 | shadow in there. And I'm going to go in there.
| | 04:25 | Let's get real close and just
to finesse this really well.
| | 04:28 | I'm going to go in there
and get rid of the parts.
| | 04:31 | I can erase it here but I'm going to just
go in there and erase the parts where we
| | 04:34 | don't want the shadow to be,
which is on the tree itself.
| | 04:38 | There we go. We now have
our little shadows being cast
| | 04:41 | on to the ground from these
trees and it starts to look better.
| | 04:46 | And the next and final movie, what we're
going to do is, add the glow to the vines.
| | 04:51 | They're going to need that same glow.
Similar effect what we did here, but with
| | 04:54 | a slight difference.
| | 04:56 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding glow to the vines| 00:00 | Now the final thing is to add
that same glow to the vines.
| | 00:05 | So now the vines are way over here on
the top, especially this one right here.
| | 00:10 | Now the thing that's going to make this a
little different is the layer style we're
| | 00:13 | going to use. We're going
to close up the forest here
| | 00:17 | and go to the folder of the vines.
And the near one is the one we want
| | 00:21 | because that's this one that's right in here.
| | 00:23 | So we're going to go to Near Moss copy.
The transparencies still locked from
| | 00:30 | before when we started adding
some tones and colors to it.
| | 00:33 | But what we're going to do
here is give it a layer style.
| | 00:36 | And just like before,
we're going to use that green.
| | 00:38 | But instead of doing the inner glow, as we
did before, we're going to do an inner shadow.
| | 00:43 | And the inner shadow we're
going to change to that light green.
| | 00:48 | Now, we're not really seeing anything
because of the fact that it's a shadow,
| | 00:50 | it's set to multiply. And
since the vine is almost black, we
| | 00:54 | don't really see anything from
Multiply mode, so I'm going to change this to
| | 00:57 | Screen mode. And then now
we see that we have all of
| | 01:01 | these little tones along the side there.
So all along the sides of the vine,
| | 01:05 | lights come in from that side now I
have some Layer styles happening here.
| | 01:09 | If I change the light source
its going to affect those as well.
| | 01:13 | See, see how that changed. We don't
want that, this is a Global Light.
| | 01:17 | So what I need to do is to affect only
these vines and not affect those wings
| | 01:20 | over here. So what I'm
going to do is I'm going to
| | 01:23 | turn off my Global Light, so I can
change the light source to be coming from this
| | 01:25 | direction here. And there
we see that now we have the
| | 01:28 | light where we want it. Now I'm
going to bring down the opacity a
| | 01:31 | little bit. So we just
have this little hint of these
| | 01:33 | little vines here. Click OK,
right there and we're going to
| | 01:38 | drag that same effect over to our vine copy.
| | 01:43 | Right there, which is going to give us
that same little effect along the side there.
| | 01:46 | And as we did before, what we're going to
do is we're going to separate that effect
| | 01:51 | from the layer. So we're
going to go in there and say,
| | 01:55 | Layer Style > Create Layer, and it
creates a layer, and there you see the
| | 01:59 | layer for the Near Moss, right? So
that now I can go in there and we can
| | 02:05 | give it a mask. And the mask
I'm just going to go in and
| | 02:08 | erase the parts I don't want. And I,
course it's a mess, so it's okay.
| | 02:13 | I can be fairly free with what I'm doing
because it's a mask I can easily change it.
| | 02:18 | So I'm going to go in there and start
to slowly make this side get a little
| | 02:21 | lighter as the top. I want
those sides there to be as strong
| | 02:25 | as possible. And then the
same thing with the vine.
| | 02:28 | I go to the vine and I say Layer style >
Create layer and I take the moss, give it
| | 02:33 | a mask. And I'm going to erase the sides that I
| | 02:38 | don't want. So I want to
lessen this a bit and lessen
| | 02:42 | the top just a little. And there
we see that the moss is picking
| | 02:46 | up that nice glow. Now we'll
do the same to the other two,
| | 02:50 | and in this case, like for instance the
one in the middle, which is the one we
| | 02:53 | call the Near Moss and Near Vine.
We're going to go in there and just
| | 02:59 | select that one, and give it that Layer style.
| | 03:02 | And here we're going to go with that Inner
glow because it's pretty much dead center.
| | 03:07 | So I'm going to go in here and give it
that green and there's my little glows.
| | 03:12 | And I'm going to give the same thing to
the vine, except, you know, to the vine
| | 03:15 | it's going to be a little different. To
the vine, I'm going to go in there and
| | 03:21 | say give it the Inner shadow. Which
again, we'll go in there and change
| | 03:26 | this to the light green,
and change that to screen.
| | 03:30 | And I'm in the far vine
right now. But we can leave that.
| | 03:35 | Let's go to near vine, there we go.
That's what we're going to give to the
| | 03:39 | inner shadow, which we make a green.
There we go, change this to Screen.
| | 03:46 | And we had that in the shadow.
Again, we're going to turn this off.
| | 03:50 | And now we're going to have the
light coming from right above.
| | 03:52 | See how we got that nice shadow on the inside?
| | 03:55 | And we're going to go in there
and erase the parts we don't want.
| | 03:59 | Now, there's going to be some
parts that are hidden behind the tree.
| | 04:02 | In some cases, we're going
to lose that glow completely.
| | 04:06 | So, it's just a question of going in
there and manipulating these glows until
| | 04:09 | you have them exactly the way you want them.
| | 04:12 | Then the thing will be down to the last one,
and the finished image will be all complete.

10. FactoryIntroduction| 00:00 | This dreamscape will put us
standing in front of a graffiti clad wall.
| | 00:05 | A brick wall that's being
bathed by the setting sun.
| | 00:09 | Behind that wall will be an industrial
complex of girders, and factories, and
| | 00:14 | cranes, and all kinds of stuff. An
industrial complex that we can't quite
| | 00:18 | see, because of that brick wall.

| Selecting buildings: Part one| 00:00 | We're starting off with a blank screen.
The first thing that we're going to do is
| | 00:03 | we're going to get the buildings that are
going to populate this scene, and select
| | 00:07 | them and bring them in. Now,
there's going to be various ways of
| | 00:11 | selecting the scene here. So
let's start with this one here.
| | 00:17 | This is actually going to be the hardest one.
| | 00:19 | So I'm going to take my Magic Wand,
click in the sky, which pretty much grabbed
| | 00:22 | everything there. I'm going to do an inverse,
and pull it out. And, just drag it in. There we go.
| | 00:27 | You might say that was the
hardest one. But I was only kidding.
| | 00:29 | But there's the first of our
buildings. Have a look at this one.
| | 00:40 | This one starts to get a
little more complicated.
| | 00:44 | Why? Because of the fact that we don't want
| | 00:46 | the entire building, we only
want this section right here.
| | 00:50 | Right here, that piece. I could
do a Magic Wand up here, but it
| | 00:52 | would have all of the
intricate stuff happening in there.
| | 00:55 | So what I'm going to do is
I'm going to choose Color Range.
| | 01:00 | In a very similar fashion as I did before.
| | 01:01 | And I'm going to just go in here and
select that sky, and hold the Shift key
| | 01:05 | to make sure I get more of
that sky. Just like that.
| | 01:10 | Click OK. And now, I'm going to go in there and
| | 01:12 | inverse the selection. So, I
take the selection and inverse it.
| | 01:17 | And I save that selection.
And we'll call it, bldg.
| | 01:21 | So, when we look at our
channels we can deselect it.
| | 01:25 | There it is. There's our selection.
| | 01:28 | Now there's some of this stuff up here. The
little bit of the sky gradiation, the smoke.
| | 01:35 | By going into Levels, I can kind of
eliminate those by making my darks much darker.
| | 01:39 | There they are. Click OK.
| | 01:41 | Now, these parts I do want, so what I'm
going to do is take my Paint Brush and a
| | 01:46 | large brush, get a nice, large
brush here, and I'm setting it at 100%.
| | 01:51 | I'm going to go in there, and
just paint those areas to white.
| | 01:54 | Okay? Now, going to come in close here, getting
| | 01:58 | real close to this pipe here that
we see. And, I do want the pipe.
| | 02:04 | So, what I'm going to do is, I'm going to
go in there and just paint it into white,
| | 02:08 | just like this. Make sure
that I'm encompassing the
| | 02:12 | entire pipe all the way
through this big giant pipe, here.
| | 02:16 | Now, I don't have to get that neat
because look, I already have one made
| | 02:18 | back here. But what I'm going to do here is I'm
| | 02:21 | going to switch to black
and I need to paint stuff out.
| | 02:24 | But I need to see what I'm
doing, there's my image in back.
| | 02:28 | So, I'm going to paint with
black now, and I need to hide these.
| | 02:33 | So as you can see, I'm starting to go
in there, and I'm just following the pipe
| | 02:36 | right along this edge here. I got
it nice and clean, and go all the
| | 02:40 | way down to where I need
it. Right to about there.
| | 02:44 | Let's get a smaller brush here. If
I can go around this little piece?
| | 02:49 | Okay? Not going to be that neat, don't want
| | 02:52 | to waste the time here. And going
to go in and just fill this all up.
| | 02:59 | Go all the way down. Okay?
| | 03:00 | There we go. Now again, a
much larger brush so I can
| | 03:03 | start to fill all that stuff up.
All the pieces I don't want.
| | 03:08 | Okay so now I can go in there and just do
very quickly and just select entire areas
| | 03:13 | and fill them with black. All these
areas here are just filled with black.
| | 03:21 | There we go. So we're just
kind of hiding everything
| | 03:23 | that we don't want to
have in our scene and so on.
| | 03:27 | Right? So, we'll go like that.
| | 03:29 | Now the parts we do want, well
those parts we're going to expose.
| | 03:32 | Again with the white, I'll go in there
and start painting these things that I do
| | 03:36 | want to have. Now, these pipes,
they seem to suddenly end.
| | 03:41 | I want to keep those pipes, so what
I'm going to do is get real close.
| | 03:44 | And I can make my brush small enough
so that it's just about the size of the
| | 03:47 | pipe, and I'm going to click here, Shift-click.
| | 03:51 | And, I'm holding on that Shift key,
so it constrains it to a straight line.
| | 03:54 | I want this little gizmo over here, at the end.
| | 03:57 | And there's another pipe here, so
I'm going to go in there and this one's
| | 04:00 | slightly smaller. So I'm
going to go in there and click.
| | 04:03 | Click, go across, down, and back here.
Now here it looks like it got a little
| | 04:09 | thicker towards the end, so I'm just
going to do another little click there.
| | 04:12 | So, I'm going to go in there and I want to
make sure that these guys are all exposed.
| | 04:17 | And when I have exactly what I want,
it's going to end up looking like this.
| | 04:22 | Where I need to just go in there and
touch up a few little spots here and there.
| | 04:26 | And this mask is ready to go. So
when I pull back, I can see that when
| | 04:29 | I bring in to my RGB, that mask is ready.
But before I do that, let's go in here
| | 04:35 | and look at this image, because
the image is a little kind of muted.
| | 04:40 | So, I'm going to go in here and
give it a Levels Adjustment layer.
| | 04:47 | And here I'm going to kind of punch up,
because it's a setting sun in this scene.
| | 04:51 | So, I'm going to punch up
the contrast there like that.
| | 04:53 | Then I'm going to give it one more
Adjustment layer, where I'm going to say
| | 04:57 | Hue Saturation. And then I'm
going to punch up the saturation.
| | 05:01 | See, so now I'm getting
the sense of the setting sun.
| | 05:03 | And then I'm going to go and say holding
down my Option key, and say, Merge Visible.
| | 05:09 | I'm doing that because I want to
keep the original layers intact.
| | 05:12 | Now I will take my alpha channel that I
created, and all this stuff over here, I
| | 05:16 | don't need that, so we can deselect
that. I'm just going to go in there and
| | 05:20 | eliminate all these things, and
actually I want to use this one.
| | 05:24 | There's the one that I want. For
now, I can take this building and
| | 05:27 | bring it in. Let's take
our sugar factory, take that
| | 05:32 | out of here, and put that into our scene. Okay?
| | 05:38 | Now, the third one. This one's
a little more complicated, so
| | 05:41 | we're going to do this one in the next movie.
| | 05:44 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Selecting buildings: Part two| 00:00 | Selecting this building
requires a little more finessing.
| | 00:02 | Why? Because it's such an intricate work of
| | 00:05 | girders all through this area here. So,
I go and look at these channels, and
| | 00:10 | see which one is going to
give me the most contrast.
| | 00:14 | Now, I see that the blue is
the best contrast in this case.
| | 00:17 | And yes, I already have a alpha channel
in there, but I'm going to grab it and
| | 00:20 | duplicate that blue channel. There it is.
| | 00:23 | So, I want to take the
blue channel and invert it.
| | 00:27 | There we go, and we start to see the building.
| | 00:30 | All right, so, what I'm going to do is, in
Levels, I'm going to start to bring in my whites.
| | 00:35 | Concern myself with my whites this
time, more importantly, than my darks.
| | 00:39 | Now, I can bring in my darks. I
want to bring in those whites first,
| | 00:42 | because these little very tiny and very
light and thin railings are the ones I'm
| | 00:46 | concerned with. So, that's fairly good for now.
| | 00:52 | Click OK, this is going to take a
couple of steps of the same process.
| | 00:56 | I'm going into Levels again, and again
I'm going to go in there and bring in
| | 00:58 | those whites, make sure they're nice and strong.
| | 01:01 | And then, bring in the blacks.
See now we're starting to get a nice
| | 01:04 | separation, see it slowly starting to separate.
| | 01:07 | Bring in those blacks
just a little more, click OK.
| | 01:10 | It is at this point that I might want
to go in there and start to whiten these
| | 01:14 | towers as I did in the last movie. I
just go in there with a nice brush and
| | 01:19 | I start to whiten these towers to expose them.
| | 01:22 | And I make sure I go in
there and get real close.
| | 01:24 | Once I have all that stuff in, I
start to get in a little closer.
| | 01:28 | Let's just zoom in so we could
see what's starting to happen here.
| | 01:31 | I don't want to lose these railing here. So,
I'm going to go into Levels a third time.
| | 01:36 | And that third time I'm going
to bring in the whites again.
| | 01:38 | Bring in those whites and start to
make those darks a little stronger.
| | 01:42 | Now, I've got the separation
that I would need throughout.
| | 01:45 | Now, in cases like here, where it just
got lost for various reasons, the same
| | 01:49 | thing here, if I look at the art, we see
that there's this pole here, holding this
| | 01:52 | lantern, and that railing is there.
I want, want to do in this particular
| | 01:58 | case is to go in with a very, very tiny brush.
| | 02:02 | We'll make it a hard-edged brush.
It's hard, and bring that brush way down
| | 02:06 | so that it kind of matches the
existing railing, right about there.
| | 02:11 | And I'm going to start and generating my
railing right from there and come down to here.
| | 02:18 | See? So, I'm basically creating my own railing.
| | 02:20 | I'm going to come down one
size and click and click.
| | 02:25 | See? So, I'm generating the railing based on
| | 02:27 | what's there now, so that way I don't
lose any detail and the same thing here.
| | 02:31 | I'm going to start there, come up to here.
| | 02:33 | And here, I might want to see it. So,
I'm going to turn my RGB on, so I can
| | 02:37 | go in there and start to follow the
railing right across like so and down.
| | 02:42 | And then, once I have all the pieces in
place, I will end up with a Channel that
| | 02:48 | looks like this. because
what I've done there is just to
| | 02:52 | take all these areas that I know need to
be white and I just whiten them so that
| | 02:56 | now I have, as you can see,
a good selection process.
| | 03:00 | Down here it's soft because most
this is going to be lost anyway.
| | 03:04 | So now that I have this, I can come back to
my RGB and I can go in and load that channel.
| | 03:10 | So, now that we have the selection, I can
take this and import it into my file so I
| | 03:14 | can grab this and bring it in. And
now I have the three elements that
| | 03:20 | are going to make up the background. In
the next movie, what we're going to do
| | 03:25 | is put them in position,
and start adding the sky.
| | 03:28 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Compositing elements| 00:00 | So now, let's take our
buildings and put them all in position.
| | 00:03 | Well, this guy here, we can see
right off the bat he's really strong.
| | 00:07 | This guys not as colorful. So
what I do is I'm going to take that
| | 00:10 | last building we brought in and let's get
in a little closer on this so you can see.
| | 00:16 | I want to match that same brilliance.
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 00:19 | take that building and go into my Hue
/Saturation, and there, I'm going to
| | 00:22 | pump up that saturation. Okay?
| | 00:24 | So there, I can start to match up that
were getting the same kind of brilliance.
| | 00:29 | Click OK. All right?
| | 00:31 | So now, when I pull back a little bit,
I'm going to go in here and that's
| | 00:34 | getting a little closer. So
I'm going to start to take the
| | 00:37 | buildings and put it in position.
I'm going to set this up so that I have
| | 00:41 | Auto Select with my Move tool, so I
can grab these elements and put them into
| | 00:44 | position where I want them. Now,
this building here is not going to
| | 00:49 | work in, in its current state, so I'm
going to have to do some adjusting to it.
| | 00:53 | So let's just turn them off for now.
The one in back here, this one I'm going
| | 00:56 | to shrink down considerably. If I
go into my Transform tool, then I
| | 01:00 | can bring down its size, put it in
position, and do a little rotation on it,
| | 01:04 | just a little tiny rotation. And,
I need to change that perspective
| | 01:09 | ever so slightly. So what
I'll do is I'll grab this handle
| | 01:12 | and just go kind of straight up on it.
So it starts to match the perspective
| | 01:16 | that we have here. We have a
similar perspective right in
| | 01:19 | this one here. There?
| | 01:20 | And there, we click OK, and that one
falls into place right behind these others.
| | 01:26 | Now, these are going to be adjusted once
again once the wall is in place, because
| | 01:30 | we're going to put a wall in front of the
entire thing and here's that final building.
| | 01:35 | So what we need to do here is we're
going to make it, give it the rotations.
| | 01:40 | And I'm going to go in there and not that one.
| | 01:43 | We're going to make sure we're in this
guy here and we give it a little rotation
| | 01:47 | like that. And we're
going to make it a little bit
| | 01:51 | bigger, so there. Now, we
have all the buildings in place.
| | 01:54 | And in the next movie, what we're going
to do is we're going to start to add the
| | 01:58 | sky is going to fill up this area up on top.
| | 02:01 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Compositing a polluted sky| 00:00 | So now what we need to do is add
the sky. Sky is going to be back here.
| | 00:04 | So I make sure that the Background is selected.
| | 00:06 | So that way anything that gets brought
in is going to automatically fall in front
| | 00:10 | of the background and back of everything
else, which is where I want the sky to be.
| | 00:15 | I have a sky here, this is
going to be the sky that I'll use.
| | 00:19 | So it's got a nice strong sunset, kind of
like what's happening in our scene here.
| | 00:23 | So I'm going to drag it into our
place right there, there's the sky.
| | 00:27 | Now, I'm going to have to
modify this considerably.
| | 00:30 | First of all I'm going to go in there
and do a little flip horizontal on it,
| | 00:33 | there's one step. And then
I'm going to have to go in there
| | 00:36 | and adjust the site, bring up my Transform tool.
| | 00:40 | Now, you notice that it's much larger
than the actual image so I'm going to hit
| | 00:44 | Command+0, so that I can see
exactly where I'm modifying this.
| | 00:48 | So I'm going to go ahead and shrink this down.
| | 00:51 | Bring it down so I can get a really
nice portion of the sky into my scene, I
| | 00:55 | want to have as much sky
in the scene as possible.
| | 00:59 | And I, truncate it a little bit like
this, and stretch it out, so I have a
| | 01:02 | nice bit of sky, there we go.
It's going to look like this.
| | 01:07 | Let's crunch it up a little more so we
have some nice sky happening right up in
| | 01:10 | there like that. Now, these
buildings will be adjusted as
| | 01:14 | I go along. But here we go.
| | 01:16 | So now, as I start to see this, and I get
a little closer, I see that this building
| | 01:19 | still is not quite right, This
one is a little too tall back there.
| | 01:24 | Let's go back to this building here,
and I'm going to do a little Levels
| | 01:27 | adjustment on it just to make a little darker.
| | 01:31 | So we have the same kind of darkness that
we have here, we have there and that dark
| | 01:35 | just a little less. That's looking good.
| | 01:39 | 'Kay and this building back here, we're
going to move that one down just a little bit.
| | 01:44 | So I just move the sky down
just a little down to this area.
| | 01:48 | Now there's my sky, so what I'm going to
do to the sky is I'm going to do a couple
| | 01:50 | of things. First of all,
I'm going to go in there
| | 01:53 | and I'm going to, punch
up the color a little bit.
| | 01:57 | So at Hue saturation, I'm going to punch
up the saturation, make it really strong.
| | 02:01 | Nice, strong sunset kind of a color, okay?
| | 02:06 | But we're looking at this big
industrial park here, and the sky looks so blue.
| | 02:11 | It looks so comfortable there, doesn't it?
| | 02:13 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going
to create a layer on top of it and I got
| | 02:16 | this beige I just picked right here.
There's this beige for the foreground color.
| | 02:21 | And in that layer what I'm going to do,
is I'm going to go a head and fill it
| | 02:24 | with that color. Fill it
with the foreground color at
| | 02:29 | 100%, there we go. Now, this
is going to be our pollution.
| | 02:34 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
change the mode of that particular layer
| | 02:37 | here to color. And there
you can see that it's going to
| | 02:41 | go in there and kind of intensify that
whole thing there and bring down it's
| | 02:46 | Opacity so that we're just going to block
out just enough there so that it deepens
| | 02:51 | that blue sky. See without
that it's all very bright but
| | 02:56 | with it, you suddenly got this
kind of murkiness to our sky.
| | 03:00 | It just add a little murkiness to it,
maybe bring up the Opacity a little bit more.
| | 03:05 | So we'll get just that little murkiness
that's happening in there and we can see
| | 03:08 | that it is now a polluted sky.
And in the next movie, what we're
| | 03:12 | going to do is start to create the brick
wall that's going to keep us from going
| | 03:16 | into this industrial park.
| | 03:19 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating a brick wall| 00:00 | So what we're going to do
now is create a brick wall.
| | 00:02 | A large brick wall right here that kind
of blocks us off from this industrial site.
| | 00:07 | Now in my series on Photorealism that I
created quite some years ago, there is a
| | 00:12 | movie on how to create a brick pattern.
And that works very well, however those
| | 00:17 | bricks were nice and clean. What
we need to create is some bricks
| | 00:21 | that have been exposed to the pollution
being caused by this industrial park and
| | 00:25 | the ravages of time. So I got
here a blank file, where I'm
| | 00:30 | going to create the brick pattern.
In a layer I'm going to go in here and
| | 00:35 | create a brick. I'm going
to turn on my grid, just so
| | 00:38 | that I can have a little bit of
a guide of how things should go.
| | 00:42 | Right. So I'm going to go in here and just
| | 00:44 | create a brick. There's a brick
and this will be a second brick.
| | 00:48 | All right, so now we know where
they are. Right, there's the bricks.
| | 00:51 | Now I can turn off my grid. So I
don't need to see that grid anymore
| | 00:55 | and I have my basic shapes
where I want to make my breaks.
| | 01:00 | I'm going to go in here an fill these
up I want to make them, but the thing is
| | 01:03 | these are real clean and just like
those others the, the original ones right.
| | 01:08 | So what I want to do is start
to mess them up a little bit.
| | 01:10 | So I'm going to just kind of give
them some rough edges and so on.
| | 01:14 | And I'm going to in here and
let's fill this one up as well.
| | 01:17 | And I'm going to roughen this one up.
Now this one, it'll have couple rough
| | 01:21 | edges along the top, and I might
want to just break a few pieces in here.
| | 01:26 | So I'll take a and eraser and just
kind of roughen it up on the bottom.
| | 01:31 | And maybe cut off this little corner
here and roughen up a couple sides here, and
| | 01:35 | ruffle up the top a little bit.
So were getting some little variety
| | 01:41 | there, so these are two bricks right.
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 01:46 | take this brick and move it over just slightly.
| | 01:50 | And make a copy of it. Make a
copy of it right here, make sure
| | 01:54 | I'm in the right layer here, and move it
over, and put it right between these two.
| | 01:59 | And we'll take another one,
and move it over there.
| | 02:03 | There I got four bricks. Now I'm
going to roughen these up some more.
| | 02:06 | So I'll go in there with my eraser.
And let's get a small eraser and we'll
| | 02:11 | kind of break up this corner break this
up a little bit, a little more break up
| | 02:15 | that corner there. That's got
that little peak there, let's
| | 02:19 | make sure that peak is gone,
let's get rid of it here completely.
| | 02:23 | So that we have some varieties of
four bricks that look totally different.
| | 02:27 | So what I'm going to do is I'm
going to take all four of these.
| | 02:31 | And I'm going to duplicate them right below.
| | 02:35 | Right in there like that. And do
a little flip horizontal on them,
| | 02:38 | flip horizontal. So these are
starting to look a little different.
| | 02:42 | And I'm going to change 'em some more.
So I'll go in there and start to make a
| | 02:45 | couple of little changes here. And,
and maybe I'll erase a little bit
| | 02:49 | just so things start to look really different.
| | 02:52 | So when I'm done I'm going to
have something that looks like this.
| | 02:56 | There you go, so I've got a whole bunch of
little bricks here there all different shapes.
| | 03:01 | And I have a row of half bricks which is
going to totally break up the pattern of
| | 03:05 | these bricks. Now you'll
notice that looking at this
| | 03:10 | scene here. Let's get rid of these panels.
| | 03:14 | We see that the way I've set this
up, this is going to be a pattern.
| | 03:18 | I've set it up so that it ends in the
exact same area so that I'm going to have
| | 03:22 | to get a step and repeat. This
little space up here, plus this
| | 03:27 | space down here is going to give us the
space that's equal to this space here.
| | 03:31 | So it's going to be a
continuation top and bottom.
| | 03:34 | Then this space here plus, that space
there is going to give us this space.
| | 03:39 | So, these bricks will seem to continue. Now,
this brick here is cut off right there.
| | 03:45 | Where's the other end? Right there.
| | 03:48 | This brick is cut off here,
there's the other end right there.
| | 03:51 | So, if I go in here and I look at
my panels again, and I turn off my
| | 03:55 | background, because I want it to be transparent.
| | 04:00 | I can now Select All and Define Pattern.
Brickwall texture, we'll call it just brickwall.
| | 04:10 | Click OK, and we're there. So,
now I can create a whole new file.
| | 04:15 | Let's say well make this let's make
it six by six, pretty much, close.
| | 04:21 | Click OK. And let's get
a little closer so we can
| | 04:24 | see what's going to happen next. I'm
going to go ahead and, this is going
| | 04:28 | to be this, let's say the grout, right?
So in a new layer, right here, I'm going
| | 04:32 | to create the grout. I'm going
to fill that with a color for
| | 04:35 | my grout. So, let's just
say that we get this kind
| | 04:38 | of a grayish tone like that. And
we'll fill that with that color, and
| | 04:43 | we're going to give it some noise. So,
we'll go in there and say, Add Noise.
| | 04:48 | Get a little bit of noise, just
enough to have some texture in there.
| | 04:52 | And then we're going to go ahead and
fill, and with fill we're going to fill
| | 04:55 | it with that pattern we just created. Click OK.
| | 04:59 | And we did something wrong we
should do it in another layer.
| | 05:04 | There we go. So now, here
we will fill it with the
| | 05:07 | brick pattern. Click OK.
| | 05:09 | And there's our brick pattern.
And you'll notice that it's fairly
| | 05:12 | continuous, it doesn't have any
seams in it and it looks pretty clean.
| | 05:16 | Now I'm going to turn
this into an actual texture.
| | 05:19 | I'm going to lock the transparencies
for it and we're going to fill it with a
| | 05:21 | deeper gray. I'm going to
say much deeper gray about
| | 05:25 | like that. And there we go we have this color.
| | 05:29 | Now let's get in real close go to
100% here and pull back a little.
| | 05:34 | And now what we're going to do is we're
going to add a little more texture to this.
| | 05:38 | So I'm going to go in there
and say Add Noise to the bricks.
| | 05:40 | There we've got a nice little texture, in
fact in the grout we'll add a lot more noise.
| | 05:46 | So it gets a little
stronger back there. There we go.
| | 05:48 | And now we're going to
differentiate these bricks some more.
| | 05:50 | In here using Dodging and Burning I'm
going to go in, and start to do a little
| | 05:54 | burning in here, on this brick. And
let's make sure we're set the shadows here.
| | 06:01 | All right, and we'll add a
little shadow to this one.
| | 06:04 | Maybe to these, and this one, and that one.
| | 06:07 | We're getting very random here. Then
we're going to go with our, Dodge tool.
| | 06:11 | Make it the size of the bricks,
and we'll work with the shadows.
| | 06:15 | And we'll go in there and start to
lighten a couple of bricks here and there.
| | 06:19 | So we're adding a little variety.
And we start to get our brick wall.
| | 06:25 | Now in the next movie we're going to
really start to give this dimension by
| | 06:29 | adding some layer styles, which are
going to make these bricks pop off the wall.
| | 06:35 | But we're going to add another little
feature to it, so in the next movie we're
| | 06:38 | create our final brick wall.
| | 06:41 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Compositing the brick wall| 00:00 | So here you can see that I have filled
a file that I'm going to use as my final
| | 00:03 | brick wall. There it is,
I've gone in and darkened
| | 00:07 | and lightened all the little
pieces that I want and so on.
| | 00:10 | We'll get a little closer now so we
can see what's going to happen next.
| | 00:13 | I'm going to give it a little dimension.
And that's by going into that Brick
| | 00:16 | layer, double clicking on it and giving it a
little Drop Shadow, little tiny Drop Shadow.
| | 00:23 | That will separate the bricks from the
wall, and it will make the light coming
| | 00:26 | from above just like that and
give it a little more distance.
| | 00:29 | Just a little tiny distance like that,
just enough to make the bricks look like
| | 00:33 | they are in fact separated from the wall.
And I'm going to give the bricks themselves.
| | 00:38 | An inner shadow, which I'm going to turn
off this Global Light thing and bring the
| | 00:44 | light down from below. See now
the bricks are really starting to
| | 00:49 | pop away, they're starting to pop out
of the wall and they're starting to look
| | 00:52 | really good. Okay?
| | 00:54 | So I'm going to click OK. There they are!
| | 00:58 | So there's my brick wall. So
what I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 01:02 | go in here, and I'm going to
say Option > Merge Visible.
| | 01:08 | There we go! And that's going to be Wall.
| | 01:12 | All right, so let's turn that off. So
now, going to go back to our original
| | 01:16 | bricks here and I'm going to regrout first.
| | 01:20 | And I'm going to go into Hue
Saturation and I say colorize the grout.
| | 01:24 | I'm going to bring it into this warmer
tones here, almost like a yellow kind of
| | 01:27 | a thing, right there like that. And
pump up that saturation just a little
| | 01:32 | bit like that. Click OK.
| | 01:34 | And then the bricks the bricks
themselves I'm going to go into Hue and Saturation
| | 01:38 | then say Colorize. Bring
those into a nicer red let's make
| | 01:43 | them nice and bright red a
little more brick like there we go.
| | 01:48 | Give them a nice, kind of a, well
let's make them a little more orangey.
| | 01:51 | because remember there's a, that sunset,
right, so what we're going to do is,
| | 01:55 | let's make them really nice and strong,
like the sun is just bathing these bricks.
| | 02:00 | There we are, so there's the nice
bright bricks, make them really bright.
| | 02:04 | All right, when we turn on this other one
we see how dark it is, and this one we'll
| | 02:07 | make nice and bright. Okay, so
now, let's go into those effects.
| | 02:12 | And a the Drop Shadow in this case now
since it's a setting sun we're going to
| | 02:15 | go to that Drop Shadow. And
I'm going to turn off the Global
| | 02:19 | Light and have the light
coming from straight on this side.
| | 02:23 | Right there there's that setting sun
and the distance will be even stronger.
| | 02:28 | There we go. And then the
Inner Shadow, well, let's
| | 02:30 | turn that off on this one. And
we're going to give it Bevel Emboss
| | 02:34 | instead, Bevel Emboss. So,
again that light is going to come
| | 02:38 | from right there, where our
setting sun is, right there.
| | 02:42 | And this light, that's not very good.
Let's go more with a yellowish tone
| | 02:47 | because as that setting sun is just
really bright on the edges of our, our
| | 02:50 | wall there. And click OK
on that and let's make that
| | 02:55 | a little stronger right there. And
then this color here we can go with a
| | 02:59 | deep brown, a deeper brown.
Right into that area like that.
| | 03:04 | Nice deep brown. And
increase the opacity on that.
| | 03:08 | And, we click OK and there we
see that we have the two walls.
| | 03:13 | In fact now that we see this one let's
take this original one here and make it a
| | 03:16 | little bit darker. So we just
go into our, Hue, Saturation
| | 03:20 | and darken it a little bit
more. Just a little bit more.
| | 03:24 | There we go. Click OK.
| | 03:26 | Now we can really see a
difference between these two walls.
| | 03:29 | Okay, so now. Let's turn this one off.
| | 03:32 | Go down to this one, and we will
merge visible with the Option key.
| | 03:36 | Right there. And the
reason I'm using the Option key
| | 03:38 | is that you notice these layers remain in packs.
| | 03:40 | So I can constantly go back in there and
use these bricks for other things, change
| | 03:43 | the colors to whatever I need. Okay, so now.
| | 03:46 | This one we'll call Sunlite Wall. Okay,
so now that we have both of these together.
| | 03:53 | Okay, let's go back, let's
go way back in space here.
| | 03:56 | There's our two walls. There
they are on top of each other.
| | 04:00 | So, what I'm going to do and we'll
put the sun lit one on top there.
| | 04:05 | That looks good. And I'm
going to take these now and bring
| | 04:08 | them into my scene. Now
before I do that let's, let's just
| | 04:12 | make sure that we have the topmost
layers selected. Nope. There we go.
| | 04:16 | The last thing we did was to pollute that sky,
so I'm going to select the top most layer.
| | 04:20 | Why? So that when I bring something in it's
| | 04:22 | automatically going to fall on top. So I
go to my brick wall and I grab both layers.
| | 04:27 | Both layers together and I bring them
into my scene and there's the brick wall
| | 04:32 | in place which I'm now going to
distort to fit the scene that I have.
| | 04:38 | So, I'm going to go in here
and use my Transform tools.
| | 04:42 | And I'm going to, hold down my Command
key so I can distort, and I'm going to bring
| | 04:46 | this down. going to bring
this wall down, and bring
| | 04:50 | this one up, just like that. See,
so now I got this brick wall that's
| | 04:55 | just exposing the tops of
those buildings back there.
| | 05:00 | Which now I can modify those buildings to
get them exactly the way I want now that
| | 05:03 | I see where my brick wall is going to go.
So now that I have the brick wall in
| | 05:07 | place, I can say go ahead and do it.
And I'm ready for my next step which is
| | 05:13 | going to be to add some graffiti to that wall.
| | 05:16 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding graffiti| 00:00 | So now, what we're going to do is
add some graffiti to this scene.
| | 00:02 | But you know, when you look at it for a
second, we see that our brick wall, even
| | 00:06 | though we make it nice and bright, it's
still not as strong as the sun hitting
| | 00:09 | these guys back here. So, what
I'm going to do it I going to go
| | 00:13 | to the sunlit wall and I'm going to go
into my Hue Saturation and I'm going to
| | 00:16 | lighten it up a little bit
and give it more Saturation.
| | 00:21 | There we go. So now, it
starts to look more like that
| | 00:23 | sunlit in the back there. A
little more saturation, here we go.
| | 00:27 | That's looking a little better.
And now, we use some graffiti.
| | 00:31 | Well, here's a little shot that I took
from a moving train which is why it's so
| | 00:34 | (UNKNOWN) because I'm shooting through a
window that's been pretty, pretty frosted
| | 00:38 | just from wear. And that's
some cool graffiti, that I
| | 00:42 | thought was really nice. So,
I took a picture of it.
| | 00:45 | As the train was moving by, that
graffiti is going to be perfect for our wall.
| | 00:49 | So, what I'm going to do is I'm just
going to just very roughly, go in here
| | 00:52 | and select it. I'm using
my Lasso just to select it.
| | 00:56 | I'm just going around this area and
I'm not doing a straight line, I'm just
| | 01:00 | trying to get kind of like a, a
rough edge as to where it goes.
| | 01:04 | See, and that, I don't want it
to be too clean and there we go.
| | 01:08 | I had that. So now, I'm
going to take that and I'm
| | 01:11 | going to put it on top of our
wall, drag it right into our place.
| | 01:15 | There it is. So now, I'm
going to go and distort it,
| | 01:17 | so that it fits onto the wall itself.
I'm going to shrink it down a little bit.
| | 01:24 | And I'm going to hold down
my Command key to distort.
| | 01:28 | And I'm going to just distort this into
that perspective of the wall that we have here.
| | 01:33 | So, I get this going just
like that and make it happen.
| | 01:37 | All right, so there's our brick walls.
So, I'm going to do a couple things to
| | 01:41 | this graffiti. First of all,
I'm going to make two of
| | 01:45 | them, alright? And this one
here the one on top is going
| | 01:49 | to be the one that's hit by the sun. So,
what I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 01:53 | go into my Levels here and I'm
going to increase the Contrast on it.
| | 01:59 | Really make it nice and
colorful, just like that.
| | 02:02 | And I'm going to go into Hue
Saturation, where I'm going to pump up that
| | 02:06 | saturation, make it really strong,
really nice looking effect there.
| | 02:11 | Really nice and clean. Click OK.
| | 02:15 | Turn this one off. And, in fact,
let's turn off that brick wall.
| | 02:18 | This graffiti here, the one in back,
we're going to go in there and do that
| | 02:23 | same little play with to bring up the contrast.
| | 02:30 | But we're going to go into our Hue
Saturation here and tone down the
| | 02:33 | Saturation a little bit and
definitely darken it, okay?
| | 02:37 | So, there's the darker one. So,
what we're going to do is put that
| | 02:40 | one in front of our dark wall, and then
the bright one on top of the bright wall.
| | 02:46 | So, there's our graffiti.
There's a little touch that we're going
| | 02:50 | to need to this, so what I'm going to
do is I'm going to take this brick wall
| | 02:53 | right here, take this brick wall, and
let's just look at the brick wall itself,
| | 02:56 | and see what it looks like. So,
what I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 03:02 | select it and copy it. I'll give
myself a new channel right there.
| | 03:07 | And I'm going to paste
with the Shift and select it.
| | 03:12 | So, I'm going to hold
down my Shift key and Paste.
| | 03:16 | So there, we see the brick wall in place
so what we're going to do is we're going
| | 03:20 | to move it down. We're going
to just move that selection
| | 03:23 | down so that the brick wall is right on
top of the original brick wall right there.
| | 03:29 | And if we need to get close to see that
we're right on top, there we are, right
| | 03:33 | on top of it. And we might
want to just move it up just
| | 03:36 | a little bit just so that we see that
we're right, there we go, now we're nice
| | 03:40 | and even. So, we turn these off, and there's our
| | 03:44 | brick wall. So, let's pull back and look at what
| | 03:47 | we've done here. There's the brick wall.
| | 03:50 | What I'm going to do is I'm
going to increase the Contrast.
| | 03:55 | I'm going to make those
darks and my lights much lighter.
| | 03:58 | See, it's the lights I'm concerned with here.
| | 04:01 | All those little lines in between. So,
that's where I'm, I'm trying to get,
| | 04:05 | to get those lights to come right through.
| | 04:07 | There they are. There's the nice little lights.
| | 04:10 | So, I'm going to click OK. So,
what I'm going to do now is I'm going
| | 04:12 | to go back to my layers. First, go
back to my RGB, go back to my Layers.
| | 04:18 | And right here, this one is not so bad
but what I'm going to look at is, there's
| | 04:24 | the graffiti. So, what I'm
going to do is I'm going to
| | 04:30 | turn that channel into a selection, right?
| | 04:33 | And right above the Graffiti Layer,
I'm going to add a layer and I'm going to
| | 04:37 | fill it with black. Turn it
off and we can see that now we
| | 04:41 | have the little bricks showing up through there.
| | 04:44 | I'm going to lower the Opacity a little
bit, so that they're just going to be in
| | 04:47 | there like that. Same thing with the graffiti.
| | 04:51 | I'm going to kind of lower its opacity
just a little so that the brick textures
| | 04:53 | start to show through. Now, we
can see that the bricks and the
| | 04:57 | graffiti are starting to work together.
I'm going to duplicate that layer.
| | 05:01 | I'm going to have some little lines and
put it in front of the colored graffiti.
| | 05:07 | And let's turn these two on. And
there, we see that we have the same
| | 05:10 | little thing happening. I'm
going to reduce the Opacity for the
| | 05:15 | the bricks themselves, just like that.
Or rather, for the graffiti, so it starts
| | 05:20 | to mix in with those bricks behind.
And there, we see that now we start to
| | 05:24 | have a little more of a realistic
looking effect of our little lines there in
| | 05:28 | between the bricks.
| | 05:31 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Lighting the wall| 00:00 | Its now ready to start lighting this whole wall.
| | 00:03 | So the first thing I want to do is I'm
going to clip those little lines that we
| | 00:07 | made for the bricks. I'm
going to clip them with the actual
| | 00:11 | layer of the graffiti,
right there and right here.
| | 00:15 | So that way these lines are
confined to the area of the graffiti.
| | 00:19 | So now, what I'm going to do
is right here in the brick wall.
| | 00:24 | I'm going to use my Pen tool, and I'm
going to create what looks like a nice
| | 00:28 | reflection from some building off in distance.
| | 00:33 | So I'm going to have this little
area like this, is it'll come down.
| | 00:38 | And kind of follow the bricks this
way, and come down a little more.
| | 00:44 | Go across, let's make this
a little straighter there.
| | 00:47 | Go across this way and come up to
about here, and go across here like this.
| | 00:55 | And come up to about there, and then,
shoot off into this area right here.
| | 01:02 | What I'm going to do now is I'm going to
close this off here, and turn that path
| | 01:06 | into a selection. This path,
I going to Save it, and what
| | 01:10 | we're going to call this is, shadow.
Now it's not going to seem like a shadow,
| | 01:15 | but that's basically what we're
creating here is this shadow here.
| | 01:19 | So I'm going to turn it into
selection just like that, and I go back to my
| | 01:22 | layers and there's the Sun lit layer.
What I'm going to do is say, give it a mask.
| | 01:27 | It's going to make that mask based
on what's currently selected there.
| | 01:31 | I'm going to take that mask and copy it,
by holding on to my Option key right onto
| | 01:36 | the graffiti. And there we
see that now we have this
| | 01:40 | nice light being bathed across our scene here.
| | 01:44 | And you know what we might want to do is
just kind of like just add to this thing here.
| | 01:51 | Let's make it a little longer.
Have it end right about there.
| | 01:54 | So right here in that mask, right in
here, I'm going to go ahead and say add
| | 01:59 | some white right in there. And to
this mask, well, there it doesn't
| | 02:04 | matter because the
graffiti is not seen in that part.
| | 02:07 | But there we see that we have this nice
light that's casting onto the wall from
| | 02:10 | the sunset, and these are buildings
somewhere over here that are blocking it
| | 02:14 | and creating a shadow. Now,
this shadow here's long, and the
| | 02:18 | longer a shadow goes, the
softer it starts to become.
| | 02:21 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
select this whole area here, right here,
| | 02:24 | and give it a little bit of a blur.
And this is going to be to both masks.
| | 02:31 | So I'm going to go into this mask and
say give it a little Day Blur, say Gaussian
| | 02:34 | blur of about let's say just a little
about six looks good at this resolution here.
| | 02:41 | So let's just come down a little bit, okay?
| | 02:44 | We'll click OK. We'll do
the same thing to this mask.
| | 02:47 | Give it the same filter. There it is.
| | 02:49 | But now, this has to get
softer as it gets further away.
| | 02:53 | So what I wanted to do
is create another channel.
| | 02:56 | We have that first channel, let's
create another channel right here.
| | 02:58 | And let's see the RGB on top. And
what I'm going to do is create a
| | 03:02 | gradient, from black to white.
Radial gradient, and why this is where I
| | 03:06 | want the effect to be, which is out
here and here its already has an effect.
| | 03:10 | So I'm just going to create a
gradient right across here like that.
| | 03:13 | And let's make sure we're linear
gradient, let's undo that, linear gradient
| | 03:17 | okay and we go straight across like that.
There we have this nice effect, we can
| | 03:22 | make it a little bit deeper, there we go.
So, now we come back over to our GBs and
| | 03:27 | we load that. Let's turn it off and load that.
| | 03:31 | And now what we're going to do is right
herein that in our layers, and there's a
| | 03:36 | mask for the sanded wall
I'm going to give it a filter.
| | 03:41 | Gaussian blur and we're going to go a
little further this time, we going to go
| | 03:44 | and apply it a couple of times.
Here is one, apply it again.
| | 03:48 | I'm hitting Command+F to apply it a few times.
| | 03:51 | And there you can see that it's getting
softer as it's getting further away, one
| | 03:54 | more time and I deselect.
There we see that the wall is now
| | 03:58 | property lit, with the shadow of
some buildings off on the side.
| | 04:03 | Now in the next movie what we're
going to do is add the sidewalk.
| | 04:07 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding weeds to the sidewalk| 00:00 | Now we need a sidewalk to our scene. So,
let's go in here and let's make sure
| | 00:06 | we're in back. So, way
back here, in front of the
| | 00:10 | background, I have a sidewalk,
there's a nice little sidewalk.
| | 00:14 | This sidewalk is going to work
perfectly for our, our scene here.
| | 00:17 | I'm going to drag this into our
scene right here, there's the sidewalk.
| | 00:22 | Now, I'm going to make sure Auto Select
is turned off, and I'm going to move my
| | 00:25 | sidewalk down into position where I want
it, right about down here, just like that.
| | 00:30 | And I'm going to darken it, so I'm
going to go into my Levels, just to
| | 00:33 | darken it with Levels, right there, so it
gets this nice same kind of darkness that
| | 00:37 | we see on the wall here. So it's
in the shadows of these buildings
| | 00:42 | off to the side somewhere. Click OK,
that's working out pretty good.
| | 00:48 | So, now what we're going
to do is add some weeds.
| | 00:51 | So, what I'm going to do is I'm going
to pull this guy out so it's in it's own
| | 00:53 | field and look what's in the back here.
I have this other image back here and
| | 00:56 | let's, let's pull this out so they're
all in individual little layers here.
| | 01:01 | And let's get our other guy, let's
bring it back over here, there it is.
| | 01:07 | And what we're going to do is
start to add some weeds down here.
| | 01:10 | So I'm going to clone from this.
This image here is going to be great for
| | 01:14 | my weeds because I have all this brush
down here, it's kind of rough looking
| | 01:17 | stuff, okay? So, what I'm
going to do is I'm going to
| | 01:20 | take my Clone tool and I'm going to
use that brush, the grass brush which I'm
| | 01:24 | very proud to say is one of my
brushes, these three are mine.
| | 01:29 | I'm going to use that brush with the Clone tool.
| | 01:31 | I double check my settings here, let's go
in there, and we see that there a little
| | 01:34 | bit of a scattering that, that's less and
less scattering just a little bit, there
| | 01:38 | we go. And everything else works pretty good.
| | 01:43 | So, we'll just say, let's get our Clone
tool, and we're going to start with let's
| | 01:47 | say right here. Now, come
over here and in a new layer,
| | 01:50 | on top of sidewalk and on
top of the wall as well.
| | 01:55 | So, just go all the way to the top
here, and we'll create a new layer.
| | 01:57 | And let's start naming our layers, we
haven't been naming them, let's call this
| | 02:01 | one, Weeds, right? And what
I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 02:04 | throw a couple of weeds right here that's
just growing right out of the sidewalk there.
| | 02:09 | And we'll draw something bigger here,
a little patch of them, right there.
| | 02:13 | We'll pick up of some of this here
from here, some of this darker stuff, and
| | 02:16 | we'll come here and start
throwing that in there, too, okay?
| | 02:20 | So there's just kind of weeds just
growing all through here like that
| | 02:23 | against the wall. Now, we'll
come over here and we start
| | 02:26 | drawing from here, there we go.
Get some weeds happening there.
| | 02:29 | And, you notice that I don't have a line
sample here, so it's always going to pick
| | 02:33 | up from the same spot. So, I'm
going to get a smaller brush a
| | 02:36 | much smaller brush. And,
let's get over here and we'll pick
| | 02:40 | up some of this green stuff here.
Come over here, and we'll throw a little
| | 02:44 | green, right in here, right, there's a
little bit of that green stuff there.
| | 02:48 | Let's make sure we're
getting that green, there we go.
| | 02:52 | Come over here and we add a
little green to this edge, right there.
| | 02:55 | We're just picking up a little bit of
the green, and we'll throw a little greens
| | 02:58 | into that area there, throw
some more, right along that edge.
| | 03:03 | Okay, now we come in here we'll pick
up this darker green right and there.
| | 03:07 | And then we can start throwing some
of that stuff in here and this is a big
| | 03:10 | patch of, of weeds that are growing and
we'll throw some more right back in here,
| | 03:14 | and we'll throw some greens
in here and there and there.
| | 03:20 | Just having little blades of grass
coming out from in between the cracks in the
| | 03:23 | sidewalk just like that,
and there we have some weeds.
| | 03:28 | So now we're almost ready. In the
last movie, what we're going to do
| | 03:32 | is re-position our buildings so it has
the drama and the visibility that we want
| | 03:36 | for this industrial park that's
hidden from our view by the stone wall.
| | 03:42 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Positioning buildings and adding final touches| 00:00 | So now that our wall and everything is in
place, let's get those buildings just the
| | 00:03 | way we want them. And look at the overall image.
| | 00:07 | Well, our graffiti for one thing, right
there, it's a little bit not as strong as
| | 00:10 | I'd like it to be. So, what'
I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 00:14 | down to that graffiti. There it
is, the one that's in the dark
| | 00:19 | wall, and I'm just going to punch it up
a little bit by increasing the levels on
| | 00:22 | this just a little bit. Going
in and darkening those tones, it
| | 00:27 | enriches the color quite a bit. There we go.
| | 00:29 | So, that's looking a little better. And
we might want to do this one here as well.
| | 00:33 | So, let's go to that line of graffiti
and we'll go into Levels and kind of
| | 00:37 | intensify that one as well. Just
get those midtones in there and
| | 00:41 | there, we might just want to go in and
do a little Saturation as well, make it a
| | 00:44 | little more saturated,
because it is in the sunlight.
| | 00:48 | See now, the graffiti
really starts to jump out at you.
| | 00:51 | Now, let's look at the buildings. I
get my Move tool, and going to make
| | 00:55 | sure it's set to Auto-Select. And I'm
going to start looking at the buildings.
| | 01:00 | Hey, we got this one here first. I'm
going to go in there and raise that a
| | 01:03 | little bit more so we see more of the building.
| | 01:07 | And I'm going to go in there and bring in
those midtones a little more just to add
| | 01:11 | a little more drama to the side there.
that middle building right there, not
| | 01:17 | quite right. Let's just
bring it in like this, and
| | 01:21 | we'll darken it a little bit. So,
that looks a little more interesting.
| | 01:25 | These big drums, whatever the things are.
So, we'll go in there and kind of darken
| | 01:29 | that one, make it a little stronger. So,
it starts to match these other dark
| | 01:33 | areas around here. And then
finally, this building here,
| | 01:36 | which we're going to bring way up.
We're going to bring it way up so we can
| | 01:40 | start to see the other little
window start to pop up there.
| | 01:43 | Now, there's one thing about this.
This perspective sees pretty good, seems
| | 01:47 | to follow everybody else, but this
perspective doesn't seem quite right.
| | 01:52 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
select this whole section of the building
| | 01:55 | right through here, right in there.
And I'm going to go in there and do a
| | 01:59 | little transform on it, holding down my
Command key to skew, and I'm going to skew this.
| | 02:05 | It's going to skew it straight up
until it starts to match the perspective of
| | 02:09 | these other buildings right in here.
So, that's starting to look a little
| | 02:14 | better, and even possibly, almost
match the perspective of our wall here.
| | 02:20 | There we go. Click OK on
that and there, we can see
| | 02:23 | that now our building is starting to look a
little better and there's the overall scene.
| | 02:29 | And one more thing, that sky, the sky
needs a little more contrast, a little
| | 02:32 | more strength in there. So, I'll
just do a little Levels on that
| | 02:36 | just to intensify that
sky some more. There we go.
| | 02:40 | Intensify the sky. And now
that we've done that, we can take
| | 02:44 | this polluted area and let's just
intensify that a little bit just so that
| | 02:47 | the sky gets a little
bit murkier just like that.
| | 02:52 | And there, we see that we have the
finished factory scene of industrial area
| | 02:56 | that's covered up by a brick wall, not
exactly the best neighborhood in town.
| | 03:03 |

11. Casting a SpellIntroduction| 00:00 | This dreamscape will put us at the point
of view of a wizard mixing a concoction
| | 00:05 | to cast a spell. It'll
incorporate a lot of things, like
| | 00:09 | some 3D and a beautiful full moon
outside the window, and some effects that you
| | 00:13 | probably haven't thought of before.
| | 00:16 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Compositing the background| 00:01 | The first thing we're going to do is to
create the little cell or the room
| | 00:05 | where our concotion is being mixed.
I've got my file here and I have this one
| | 00:12 | file of a wall. This is a
shot I did back in when I was
| | 00:16 | in Manchu Picchu one time
and that's a wall from there.
| | 00:21 | And, what I'm going to do, is
I'm going to take that wall.
| | 00:24 | And just bring that whole
thing right into our scene.
| | 00:27 | There it is. So now, I'm
going to make it a little smaller.
| | 00:29 | So I'm going to go to my
Transform tools, and hit Command+0.
| | 00:34 | So that I can see the entire area. And
I'm just going to go ahead and shrink
| | 00:38 | this down to where I want it to be.
It's going to be somewhere like that.
| | 00:43 | It's going to be a nice, big
window off to the side like that.
| | 00:47 | There we go. And let's
move it over a little bit.
| | 00:50 | Let's just move it over just a little, so we
get a little more of the wall showing there.
| | 00:54 | And there's our basic scene. So,
let's go back to Full screen here.
| | 00:59 | Add then darken this. I'm going
to want to really darken this,
| | 01:02 | but before I do that, I'm
going to cut out a hole.
| | 01:05 | So I'm going to get in real close here on
the window, and using my Pen tool, rather.
| | 01:10 | I'm going to go in here and
select the wall, and back here.
| | 01:13 | And backup this little shape.
Let's get real close on this.
| | 01:18 | Let's really get a feel of where this is going.
| | 01:21 | And then, so I'm going to bring this
all the way in here, and then come around
| | 01:24 | this little piece of the wall here.
And go around and get it into there.
| | 01:30 | Around this little hole here,
there's this little shape here.
| | 01:34 | And I'm just repositioning
my Pen tool as I go along.
| | 01:37 | There you go. And then we're
going to just get out new handle.
| | 01:42 | And go around, around this
whole section right in here.
| | 01:45 | Now I'm just following the basic
shapes of the existing rocks in place here.
| | 01:53 | And I'm going to go all the way down
to the bottom here, and right here I'm
| | 01:57 | going to change directions
and come in this direction.
| | 02:01 | This is going to be a little base of
the wall, doesn't quite look like that but
| | 02:04 | we're going fix it and make it look
the way we want it to in a little while.
| | 02:09 | So now we'll go up. And we
follow this whole wall up into
| | 02:13 | here into this little crevice. Open it up.
| | 02:18 | And come up to the top here
and finish it off right there.
| | 02:22 | Pull back and I take that path,
and we'll turn it into a selection.
| | 02:27 | And let's Save it, just in case
we want to do something later.
| | 02:31 | All right, so now that we have that,
I'm going to simply knock it out.
| | 02:35 | There it is. This is a hole there.
| | 02:37 | So going back to my layers in my
background, I'm going to invert it, so
| | 02:40 | its black its outside its dark. And
I got my background selected, so I
| | 02:45 | have some clouds. So I'm
going to take these clouds and
| | 02:48 | drag them into my scene. There we go.
| | 02:54 | There's the clouds, which
I'm also going to shrink down.
| | 02:59 | I have this nice little cluster of clouds
inside that window, right there like that.
| | 03:05 | That looks good. Click OK.
| | 03:08 | Let's get real close again. And
now, I'm going to go into my
| | 03:12 | levels, and I'm going to increase the
contrast in some of this stuff here like that.
| | 03:19 | They're really strong. And
then I'm going to go into my Hue
| | 03:22 | Saturation, where I'm going to
bring down saturation completely.
| | 03:26 | All the way down. Now
that I have it like that, I'm
| | 03:30 | going to go in and do some more levels work.
| | 03:34 | Get those darks really
dark in there. Just like that.
| | 03:37 | Okay? So now, look what I've got here.
| | 03:41 | I have a little moon, and
I'm going to select that moon.
| | 03:48 | A little circle. A little circular selection.
| | 03:50 | Put it right there, there we go
and copy that moon into the scene.
| | 03:55 | Big moon. So, let's shrink
it down so it's just this
| | 04:00 | little thing right in there, right
in the clouds there just like that.
| | 04:09 | So now our moon. going to
go in there and increase some
| | 04:13 | contrast on that, so it becomes
a really powerful looking moon.
| | 04:16 | Let's get the lights really so
that it looks like it's lit up.
| | 04:20 | Okay and I'm going to go in and
let's just turn that into a selection.
| | 04:25 | Just because I see that, that Little
black area around the edges, don't like that.
| | 04:30 | So let's contract that selection.
This is how we fix things after the fact
| | 04:33 | here we'll contract it by about
let's say two pixels and that's good.
| | 04:39 | So now when I inverse the selection
hit delete, then that outside part of the
| | 04:42 | moon is gone. So now I go
into my Hue Saturation, where
| | 04:46 | I'll bring down the saturation and
bring it into those blues a little bit more.
| | 04:52 | There you go, more towards
those blues. There you go.
| | 04:57 | Closer to the blues. Eh, about there.
| | 05:00 | Looking a little green, actually.
Let's say colorize it, that way we can
| | 05:04 | really control where the color is going to be.
| | 05:06 | There we go. Now we got
in to the blues and there.
| | 05:09 | So, we're going to give that moon a
little bit of outer glow, a little outer
| | 05:14 | glow which will make a nice kind of a
light blue and expand that a little bit.
| | 05:22 | So we got this nice little
glow directly around the moon.
| | 05:26 | So now what I'm going to do is, in front
of the clouds here I'm going to create a
| | 05:29 | new layer, and I'll get a nice bright blue.
| | 05:33 | Like about like that. And I'm
going to get my Gradient tool set
| | 05:36 | to Radial gradient, and make sure
it's a foreground to transparent.
| | 05:42 | And right here I'm going to throw a
little gradient right outside there like that.
| | 05:45 | Maybe a little bigger. So I'll do that.
| | 05:48 | Made it a little bigger. There we go.
| | 05:49 | And what I'm going to do with that
is I'm going to set that up to color.
| | 05:54 | See, so that, what it did is just
added that nice blue haze to my clouds.
| | 05:59 | So now we've got the moon in place, and
we're going to take the wall and we're
| | 06:02 | going to darken it considerably. So
I'm going to go into my Hue Saturation
| | 06:07 | or my Levels rather, and just kind of
darken those tones way down, so that
| | 06:11 | we're inside, like that.
Darken that some more, okay.
| | 06:17 | And we might want to add a little tone in here.
| | 06:20 | So kind of like a candle-lit tone.
We're going to get this nice, bright yellow.
| | 06:25 | And the layer above it, right here,
I'm going to throw another gradient.
| | 06:30 | Kind of like the one I did for the moon.
But I'm going throw a gradient right out here.
| | 06:33 | Like that. Which gives me this nice kind of
| | 06:35 | yellowish tone. And I'm
going to go in there and set that
| | 06:37 | to screen. And bring that
into passivity considerably.
| | 06:40 | Just so it starts to look like there's a
candle lit somewhere, off in the distance.
| | 06:44 | See. Just added that extra little light.
| | 06:47 | And there's the beginnings of our background.
| | 06:49 | In the next movie what were going to
do is add the book of incantations.
| | 06:55 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating the book| 00:00 | Not ready to create our spells but
before we do that there's a couple of things
| | 00:03 | that I need to do here. For one
thing is that there's a couple of
| | 00:07 | changes that need to be made to the background.
| | 00:10 | For one thing I went ahead and lightened
that area inside, inside the window, and
| | 00:15 | I separated into a totally different layer.
| | 00:19 | Now what I'm going to do with that
is that I'm going to go in there and
| | 00:21 | colorize that. Go into Hue
Saturation and hit Colorize.
| | 00:27 | And I'm going to bring that area into the blues.
| | 00:31 | Like that. That's a nice,
little kind of a, little
| | 00:35 | bit of a darkening there. Bring
up that saturation just a tad.
| | 00:39 | Like that, alright an there we have this.
So now, what's happening here is that this
| | 00:44 | is the moonlight. So, what
I'm going to do is, I'm going to
| | 00:47 | add a mask to that layer, and that mask
I'm going kind of really soften up the
| | 00:51 | effect that we have here. So I'm
going to get a nice soft edge brush.
| | 00:58 | And bring it way down to size. And
I'm bring down the capacity as well,
| | 01:01 | so I can just work gradually
as I'm applying these effects.
| | 01:05 | Now to get in closer so we can
see what's going to happen here.
| | 01:08 | Now I'm just going to slowly start to
get rid of it in these areas here, where
| | 01:12 | there's a little joint
right there, and right in there.
| | 01:18 | Just to soften that up. Then I'm
going to make it a little larger
| | 01:21 | and just kind of soften this edge just
so it starts to kind of fade away right
| | 01:26 | around that edge. Just
starts to fade away, exposing our
| | 01:31 | wall behind. And here, I'm
going to kind of bring it
| | 01:34 | off into the sides. And there
I'm going to get rid of a whole
| | 01:38 | thing there. So I'm
starting to get this kind of a
| | 01:41 | soft, kind of a halo of the moon, kind
of coming in through this wall outside.
| | 01:48 | There we go. So now we
start to get more realistic
| | 01:51 | kind of a feel. As if the
moon is being, lighting up that
| | 01:55 | window well. Now, the book of incantations.
| | 01:58 | Well, I went online, and I did a
little search for witchcraft spells.
| | 02:02 | And I found this thing here.
I have no idea what it says.
| | 02:05 | It kind of bizarre looking. So
I went ahead and traced it, see?
| | 02:10 | I created a. Layer there where
I traced part of those spells.
| | 02:14 | I did change them a little bit, because
I didn't want anything to happen and I'm
| | 02:18 | happy to say that no demons appeared, nothing.
| | 02:22 | My face didn't turn green. Nothing happened.
| | 02:26 | I didn't suddenly grow hair at
night. So it's okay, I, I'm fine.
| | 02:31 | But I created this text here. And
I created this, little layer here,
| | 02:35 | just to give me an idea so I can see
on top of the spells as I was working.
| | 02:41 | So, that's going to be my spells. So,
getting back into here, I'm going to
| | 02:45 | create the book itself. So, what
I'm going to do is I'm going to
| | 02:48 | create some shapes. That are
going to be the edges of the book.
| | 02:52 | So this is going to be, one
side of the book, right here.
| | 02:58 | And it comes down to here. Let's go down.
| | 03:01 | Let's pull back a little bit.
And it comes down to here.
| | 03:05 | And we close this off. Then
this is going to be the other side
| | 03:07 | of the book. It's going to come out.
| | 03:10 | Like so, and come down like that.
Now this can kind of just overlap in
| | 03:16 | there like that. Right, so
we're going to finesse this a
| | 03:19 | little bit, so there we go. So now
we have this book that's opened up
| | 03:23 | like that. These are going
to be the different pages
| | 03:26 | of my book. So I got to my
Opacity, make sure we save those.
| | 03:32 | All right so now the one in back here.
I'm going to go ahead and get a color
| | 03:35 | that I want my books to have. It's
going to be kind of a parchment kind
| | 03:38 | of a color. I'll get
something like-- about like that.
| | 03:44 | Okay, I'm going to go into a new layer
on top of everything here and I'm going to
| | 03:49 | call it Page Right. And fill
that path with that color, okay?
| | 03:58 | Now I look at it, so it's a little too
yellow, so let's go in here and make it a
| | 04:00 | little more beige. There,
that looks a little better, so
| | 04:03 | we'll fill that with that
color. There, that's much better.
| | 04:08 | Now we're going to add some textures
to this and make it even more realistic.
| | 04:12 | I'm going to select the second path,
create a new layer, and we'll call this
| | 04:18 | "Page Left." Take that path and fill that.
| | 04:24 | Now we can turn over our paths.
We have the basic book in place.
| | 04:29 | Now I'm going to just do some very
quick little touches here just so I can
| | 04:33 | deliniate the book. We're
going to add the texture in the
| | 04:36 | next movie but right now all I want to do is go
in here, let's set this up for our highlights.
| | 04:41 | I'm just going to add some quick little
tones in here just so I can kind of see
| | 04:44 | where the book is. Right
there's the edge of the book.
| | 04:48 | So that now I can take this
Formula that I trace over here.
| | 04:52 | And it's layer of the formula itself,
and we'll drag it into place like that, and
| | 04:56 | we're going to bring it down into here.
And we're going to duplicate this layer
| | 05:02 | because we're going to need two of them.
And we're going to turn one off now.
| | 05:07 | We're going to work this one on top. Okay?
| | 05:10 | So what we're going to do Make sure this
off, and we'll work on that top one, and
| | 05:13 | we'll call it spell. Spell Left.
| | 05:17 | Now I'm going to go in here and distort
this, so it's going to look like it is in
| | 05:21 | fact, on this page. going to
shrink it down a little bit.
| | 05:29 | But I like that. That looks good.
| | 05:32 | And then put it in position right
here, and I'm going to distort it.
| | 05:36 | Now let's pull back so that we can
really see what I'm going to be doing here.
| | 05:40 | And I'm going to go into Warp. And the
wrap is where I'm going to create it.
| | 05:45 | Let's just grab this center
part. Let's bring this down.
| | 05:49 | Bring this guy down, and we're going to
just kind of bend this page right into
| | 05:53 | place, right in there.
Let's get this right here.
| | 05:57 | And notice that the sides are
going to get a little tighter.
| | 05:59 | They're getting a little tighter
because they're going around that edge of the
| | 06:02 | book, and they're going to come down here.
| | 06:06 | So we're going to slowly grab these
handles and just bring them around so
| | 06:10 | that this side of the book is
just visible right in there.
| | 06:15 | And we just kind of move these around
until we have it just about where we want it.
| | 06:20 | Like that. Now this page
is curled, so let's make
| | 06:23 | sure we curl these guys. Right in
there, like that and let's bring
| | 06:27 | this in just a little bit
more. And tighten it up.
| | 06:32 | Now we gotta follow the edge of that book
and line it up with that, and there we go
| | 06:36 | we click ok, and there's the left side
of our page with the inscription in it.
| | 06:42 | So now we're going to take the right side.
| | 06:44 | We'll call it spell right, sounds like
something the teacher would tell you.
| | 06:49 | All right so I'm going to go in here
and we're bring this over to the side.
| | 06:53 | So it's not going to look the same
because in fact that, we're seeing
| | 06:56 | different parts of this thing. So,
here we're going to go in there and
| | 07:00 | distort this just as we did that
side. We're going to go into Warp.
| | 07:05 | First we make it a little
smaller. Just a little bit smaller.
| | 07:09 | That's about right. And
then we're going to Warp it.
| | 07:13 | I'm going to grab this handle bring it
into here way into there let's pull back
| | 07:18 | a little bit. And we're
going to bring this guy up and
| | 07:23 | then we're going to have these guys
lined up right with that edge of that page.
| | 07:31 | Right there, and then we
start bringing these guys in.
| | 07:34 | Now this is going to follow that curvature.
| | 07:37 | Bring it down a little bit, and it's
got to follow the curvature of the book.
| | 07:41 | So we're going to just kind of grab
these handles up, then just go around, bring
| | 07:47 | this one over and down. And
then we'll just start to move all
| | 07:53 | these handles into place.
There you see that the spell is now
| | 07:59 | taking on the shape of our page.
Open this up a little, and there we go,
| | 08:05 | now we have our spell in place.
And then in the next movie what we'll
| | 08:09 | start to do is to give
texture to the paper itself.
| | 08:12 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Aging the book| 00:00 | Now were going to age the book of spell's.
| | 00:03 | I'm going to get a little closer here
and so we can see what was going to happen,
| | 00:07 | very clearly. And the
first thing were going to do is
| | 00:11 | give those books some noise.
Let's go up to the book pages.
| | 00:15 | There's page left. That will
give us a little bit of noise.
| | 00:19 | Go in there and say, Add Noise.
Just enough, just a little bit to the
| | 00:22 | book there, just like that. Click
OK, then we'll pick the page on the
| | 00:27 | right and give it the same filter. I just
press Command+F to apply the mass filter.
| | 00:33 | For now, I'm going to give it another filter.
| | 00:36 | I'm going to go in here to my Filter gallery.
| | 00:39 | And there's a whole bunch of different filters.
| | 00:41 | And the one that I've decided to use is Sponge.
| | 00:44 | See sponge is going to give me.
Kind of like a papyrish kind of look.
| | 00:47 | So kind of look. So again,
my brush size will make it a
| | 00:50 | little bigger. We'll give
it a little less definition.
| | 00:53 | And make it a little smoother. Maybe,
bring down that smoothness, there
| | 00:57 | we go let's get our
brush sizes try really small.
| | 01:00 | That's starting to look a little
more like a papyrish kind of a feel.
| | 01:04 | I click OK and then there we have that.
We'll do the same thing to this one and
| | 01:09 | here you see that, right here it
says Command+F, is the last filter.
| | 01:13 | By the way, if I hit Option Command+F,
it brings up the last filter with the
| | 01:16 | document dialog box incase
you want to apply some effects.
| | 01:20 | So there we have that, so now. Now
that we have this, we can start to
| | 01:25 | really go in there and
apply our highlights and stuff.
| | 01:28 | So I'm going to go in
here and I'm into page left.
| | 01:31 | I'm going to start to really darken this a bit.
| | 01:33 | Now I'm going to switch to highlights
and then get it really dark in there, and
| | 01:37 | then choose Shadows. Shadows
is going to warm it up a little
| | 01:41 | as you can see. Now I'm
going to kind of warm up the edge
| | 01:44 | of this book right through there like that.
| | 01:47 | And then I got my other page, the
page on the left, which is give it a little
| | 01:52 | bit of that. And we'll go
with some mid tones just to
| | 01:56 | darken it a little more. And
then we're going to go into this
| | 01:59 | area, here. And we'll make
the brush a little bigger
| | 02:02 | and just add a little shading
on that side, just like that.
| | 02:06 | Okay, so now we're starting to get
all, our nice little tones in place.
| | 02:10 | Back to our page on left, and we'll just
get a little more darkness right through
| | 02:13 | there like that. "Kay?
| | 02:15 | And we'll get really into that,
deep little crevice in there.
| | 02:22 | And really darkened that
little corner like that.
| | 02:25 | Same thing with the page on the right.
Just kind of darken that little space inside.
| | 02:31 | So there it is the pages are turned and so on.
| | 02:34 | Now, we need to crinkle it up a little bit.
| | 02:37 | So, what we're going to do here is,
we're going to take the book on the right and
| | 02:41 | turn it into a selection. All right.
| | 02:45 | And give it a mask. Yeah as a mask.
| | 02:48 | All right? We're going to
take the page on the left.
| | 02:52 | There you go. Give it a mask.
| | 02:54 | Now, this particular mask. I'm
going to expand a little bit.
| | 02:58 | So, I'm in that mask. I'm
going to go and use my white.
| | 03:03 | And I'm just going to go and
paint in a little more of that white.
| | 03:06 | In fact, let's use our lasso here. Go
right from the edge of the book here,
| | 03:11 | right there at that edge, and expand that mask.
| | 03:14 | And, you'll see why in a second. So,
I make sure I'm in the mask, go ahead
| | 03:18 | and fill it with white. "kay,
I'm going to break up those edges
| | 03:24 | with another filter. Now, let's
just say I got the page on the
| | 03:28 | left here and I applied
the filter that I want to do.
| | 03:32 | Now there are a lot of
filters in the filter gallery here.
| | 03:36 | There's a hole bunch of
different filters, right?
| | 03:38 | But there's one in particular that I
like to use for this particular effect.
| | 03:42 | And it's not an artistic.
There's a bunch in here.
| | 03:45 | And that one is called spatter.
Now we can see what it's doing.
| | 03:49 | See what it did? It added that.
| | 03:51 | "Kay? That might be kind of cool.
| | 03:53 | That might work. In fact,
let's do that, that kind of
| | 03:56 | looks good. See, it added to our papyrus effect.
| | 04:01 | Do this, give it the same thing.
that's looking really good.
| | 04:05 | Nice happy surprise but
that's that effect I'm looking for.
| | 04:08 | What I'm going to do is I'm going to
go to the mask and the mask is where I'm
| | 04:12 | going to apply that filter. So I'm
going to go in there and go to my
| | 04:17 | Filter gallery and I'll be in my Spatter
filter and you see what its doing to the mask.
| | 04:24 | Well I'm going to go in there and,
bring down that radius a bit.
| | 04:28 | And bring up the smoothness. Just like that.
| | 04:30 | Bring up that, and bring up the smoothness.
| | 04:32 | You see what it's doing to the edge?
So now I'm doing it to the mask, so when
| | 04:36 | I click OK. There you see
what it did to the edge of
| | 04:39 | the, the page. Now this one,
the page I don't want this
| | 04:43 | are here to get soften so
that's why I extended the mask.
| | 04:48 | I'm going to apply that same filter
to that mask and there you see that it
| | 04:51 | crinkled up the top. Now, one
final touch I'm going to do is
| | 04:55 | I'm going to give each one another
layer which I want to clip inside of it.
| | 05:00 | And I'm going to get a much
darker tone, say like a black.
| | 05:04 | And I'm going to get a brush, paint brush.
| | 05:06 | And I'll use one of these spatter
brushes, like this one right here.
| | 05:10 | "Kay? Which, right now, is going to do that.
| | 05:12 | And what I want to do. And,
and the opacity's lowered.
| | 05:15 | What I want to do is go into my brush engine.
| | 05:17 | Where I'm going to, increase
the spacing, about like that.
| | 05:22 | Go into Shape Dynamics, size a-, and the angles.
| | 05:26 | All the way to 100% and that's it.
I'm going to now start to kind of just
| | 05:30 | add some additional dirt and
grime to those areas up there.
| | 05:35 | I'm hitting it a couple of times because
I have a lower opacity on my brush, which
| | 05:39 | means it's going to allow
me to affecting separately.
| | 05:43 | And I get a slightly bigger brush and I
can just apply a couple little tones in
| | 05:46 | different areas. So you see
I'm kind of dirtying the book.
| | 05:51 | Giving it some age. I'm going
to go to the page on the right
| | 05:53 | and I'll just throw a couple of little
dirt marks here and there and then along
| | 05:56 | the top. I make the brush a little smaller and I
| | 06:00 | go, just like I did with the other one.
I'm just going to add some dirt along the
| | 06:03 | top there. Right along that top edge.
| | 06:08 | And what I'll do is, I'll
just hit it a couple times.
| | 06:11 | Just so it starts to get that,
that sense of just wear and tear.
| | 06:16 | Now, in the next movie, what we're
going to do is start to create the
| | 06:19 | vessels that are going to contain
the mixing of the concoction that we're
| | 06:23 | making for our spell.
| | 06:27 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating the 3D urn| 00:00 | So, what I'm going to do now is to create
the urn that's pouring a liquid into a cup.
| | 00:06 | I got a file here, where I
want to create my little urn.
| | 00:09 | So I'm going to bring out the Rulers,
Command+R and I'm going to pull out a Guide.
| | 00:16 | Just so I have a nice little area that I
can figure out this, how wide my little
| | 00:20 | urn is going to be. So, I'll
take my Pen tool and I'm going
| | 00:24 | to start. Click there and come down here.
| | 00:28 | Now let's start to create the urn itself.
I'm going to pull this out and create
| | 00:32 | this little shape. It's
going to come in like this.
| | 00:36 | And it's going to have this little lip on top.
| | 00:40 | It's going to come around. And
actually, let's do it that way.
| | 00:44 | Let's just pull it like this and I'm
going to very quickly just finish this
| | 00:48 | off there. Now, let's finesse this.
| | 00:51 | So, I want this nice little lip up here.
So I'm going to curve this in a little
| | 00:56 | better like that, make this a little tighter.
| | 01:00 | It's got this nice little lip on top
and there's this nice long kind of an urn
| | 01:05 | like that, okay? So now I
can clear my guide, and this
| | 01:09 | inside line doesn't really matter
because you're not going to see it.
| | 01:13 | So I'm going to just clear
the guide and turn off my ruse.
| | 01:17 | So, now that I have this, I'm going to save 3D.
| | 01:22 | New extrusion form selected path.
It's going to ask me if I want to switch
| | 01:25 | to a 3D space. I'm going to say, yes.
| | 01:27 | That way it's going to set up
all my panels for 3D object.
| | 01:30 | And there, you can see
that it did, exactly that.
| | 01:33 | It just took my little
shape, and it extruded it.
| | 01:36 | See? All right, so, what I really want is I
| | 01:38 | want to take. Right there.
| | 01:41 | I select the object. And you
see that things change for the
| | 01:43 | properties, right? because now
I'm selecting the object itself.
| | 01:46 | There's the camera, here's the light, and so on.
| | 01:48 | So here's my object, which is
made up of all these different parts.
| | 01:52 | So I select the object,
and here, the shape preset.
| | 01:56 | I'm going to go in there and
select one of these other sets.
| | 01:59 | You see there's a whole
bunch of different sets in here.
| | 02:01 | I'm going to select this one. And
there you can see what it's done to
| | 02:04 | my little urn. Now that I
see it, I'm going to backtrack.
| | 02:10 | And that's the beauty of this is that I
can go in there and totally backtrack.
| | 02:13 | So I'm going to go in
here and go back into Clear.
| | 02:17 | And I want it to be a little
narrower I want it to be a little thinner.
| | 02:21 | So I'm just going to just kind of take
this whole section right here and bring
| | 02:25 | it in a little more. So there,
so it's not going to be so fat.
| | 02:29 | I won't want this big giant urn. I
want it a little more delicate, kind of
| | 02:33 | like that. In fact, what we might do now is just
| | 02:36 | kind of lengthen this a
little bit. Just like this.
| | 02:40 | So that has a little more of a curve to it.
| | 02:44 | And we'll just kind of, bring
this up a little, there we go.
| | 02:48 | That's going to be a little smoother.
Now, we can go in there and from select
| | 02:53 | the path. There it is.
| | 02:55 | And now we can choose that again.
And now we're going to get a much
| | 02:58 | smoother kind of an urn. There we
go, it's a little more delicate.
| | 03:01 | Okay, so now I can start to
do all kinds of things to this.
| | 03:05 | Well for one thing, I'm going to go in
to the extrusion material right there.
| | 03:10 | What you see this came up, had
the materials changed, the property.
| | 03:14 | I'm going to choose one of these
preset materials that it comes with.
| | 03:18 | So I'm going to go in there and
let's say I picked this one right here.
| | 03:22 | Now I'm going to leave that color, that
color's really good, I like that color.
| | 03:25 | Now that's going to work right there for us.
| | 03:29 | And that's going to be
the color of our little urn.
| | 03:31 | Now we're going to do a
few things to this though.
| | 03:33 | We're going to go in there and
start to play with it a little.
| | 03:38 | So we got here our layers. And
you notice there's this orange peel
| | 03:42 | diffuse, going on here. So I'm
going to double click on that.
| | 03:46 | Which is going to bring me
into totally different file.
| | 03:49 | Which is that material.
I'm going to pull this out.
| | 03:54 | So I can see my urn in back. because,
as I create something it's going
| | 03:57 | to allow me to see it. In there.
| | 04:00 | So let's just pull back just a
little bit and I have my urn.
| | 04:05 | I'm going to just draw something.
In a layer, right here on top, I'm
| | 04:11 | going to draw some shape. I'm
going to go over here and just draw
| | 04:14 | this little kind of a, make a brown shape here.
| | 04:18 | let's get a deep brown.
Like that, and I'll fill that.
| | 04:22 | Okay? Now, I'm on top of a curve, so let's
| | 04:25 | bring it up on top here,
and I'm going to save, okay?
| | 04:29 | Now, not seeing anything? Okay,
so that's because this thing is
| | 04:32 | probably off on a side there, so let's
just move it over to about here and save.
| | 04:37 | There, see? It appeared in place.
| | 04:41 | All right, so it's a little thick. So
what I'm going to do Is I'm just going
| | 04:44 | to shrink it down a little bit. It
becomes the nice little line and save
| | 04:49 | it, and there you see
that it has shrunken in size.
| | 04:54 | I'm going to bring it way
down to about here, save that.
| | 04:58 | There it is. I'm going to
take another one and bring it.
| | 05:01 | Right about here and let's save that.
So there we have another one which I'm
| | 05:07 | going to just, I want to
see it in that little area.
| | 05:10 | So I'm going say save. There we go,
so now we have that happening.
| | 05:15 | Now what I'm going to do is, and I'm
going to do it in a whole another layer,
| | 05:18 | just in case. I'm going to
go in here and start to draw.
| | 05:22 | Another series of shapes,
so let me get in closer here.
| | 05:26 | And I don't want to resize my
window, I want to keep it small.
| | 05:28 | All right, so, then we're going to
go in here and create some shapes.
| | 05:32 | We're going to go in here and click
right there, and hold down my Shift key to
| | 05:36 | constrain it to a 45 degree angle. And
let's pull it out all the way to there.
| | 05:42 | All right, and going to duplicate that half right next
to it, like that. OK? Now I'm going to close them off.
| | 05:45 | Just like that and I'm going to
pull this one down just a little.
| | 05:47 | Like that. I'm going to
click this guy and come down
| | 05:49 | here and let's close it off. And,
I'm goign to go ahead and fill that
| | 06:04 | path with a, and my paths are not
visible, so let's bring up our Path Window.
| | 06:10 | There we go, go, I'm going to go in there
and say fill that with that little brown.
| | 06:17 | Okay, so now I got that shape, what I'm
going to do is, I'm going to select that shape.
| | 06:25 | Bring it over here, and do a little Flip
Vertical on it, and have it join right in
| | 06:30 | there like that. Okay, that's looking good.
| | 06:36 | So now, I'm going to select the whole
thing, duplicate it down, just like this.
| | 06:42 | Now I'm going to want this to
be a nice little point here.
| | 06:44 | So, what we're going to do
; actually, you know what?
| | 06:48 | We could just make it not
be a point, there we go.
| | 06:50 | Just make it flat like that, that looks good.
| | 06:53 | I'm going to Save that. See where these appear.
| | 06:55 | Now they're obviously on the other side.
So let's pull back, and I'm going to
| | 06:59 | Select them. And duplicate
them, and duplicate them,
| | 07:07 | go like that. Now let's save, there they are.
| | 07:11 | They're coming around.
Duplicate them one more time.
| | 07:16 | All the way down there, like that, and Save.
| | 07:19 | And there, we see that we have
this nice little design to our urn.
| | 07:24 | Now, everything works in here,
all the different features.
| | 07:27 | So, I can go in there, and let's just say
that the, we go to those layers and we'll
| | 07:30 | take that first layer. That's
the one with the little lines, and
| | 07:36 | we'll give it a little Stroke.
Just give it a little Stroke, and that
| | 07:40 | Stroke, we'll make it a
let's say we make it a red color.
| | 07:44 | Click OK, and there we see we have our
little red Stroke around our design and
| | 07:48 | We'll make that stroke a little thinner.
Bring it down to about 1 so it's just a
| | 07:53 | little thin line. Save it and
there we see that we have the
| | 07:57 | little red stroke. We can go
to this one here and on this
| | 08:00 | one we'll give that one a stroke as well.
And we'll make that stroke a two and
| | 08:06 | we'll make it another color.
Let's say we make it a, green color.
| | 08:13 | Kind of a dark green like this, click OK,
save it, and there we see that we have
| | 08:17 | this little design. So now,
we click this say goodbye, we
| | 08:21 | saved it so it didn't make
any change, everything was fine.
| | 08:27 | So now what we can do is to start
to manipulate this little object.
| | 08:31 | Let's go back to our 3D and grab him And
you can start to play around with this thing.
| | 08:38 | So, we go in here and we'll select them.
We'll select our object and layers.
| | 08:44 | There is the object. All right, select it.
| | 08:47 | And I'm going to go in here
and I'm going to twirl them.
| | 08:51 | See, going to twirl them, so he looks like that.
| | 08:55 | That's the way this
little object is going to look.
| | 08:57 | Just like that. And now, the lighting.
| | 09:00 | The lighting for this little object.
We're going to go in here and go into the
| | 09:03 | infinite lighting. Now, our
candle is coming from down here
| | 09:07 | in our scene. So what I'm
going to do is I'm going to
| | 09:09 | move the lighting so that it's
coming from that direction, see?
| | 09:13 | Just like that, now we get this
nice kind of effect just like this.
| | 09:18 | So we have this little urn that's
being lit by that candle from somewhere and
| | 09:22 | there's our little urn. Let's
just move it, give it a little more
| | 09:26 | light like that, there we go. We
have our little urn that's pouring
| | 09:30 | this liquid. So, I just go
in there and at this point
| | 09:34 | I could say, Render it. I rendered the object.
| | 09:40 | Now this is going to take a, a few minutes.
| | 09:42 | It going to go in there and slowly
start to render this and when it's done
| | 09:46 | rendering we going to rasterize it
and bring it into our other file.
| | 09:51 | The file with the book and
the wall and everything else.
| | 09:54 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating the pouring effect| 00:00 | Now that our little urn has gone and rasterized.
| | 00:05 | it took about, 11 minutes to do it.
And I made one little tiny change to it.
| | 00:09 | Now that it's rasterized, I want to go in
here and say Layer > Rasterize 3D Object.
| | 00:14 | That means it's going to
bring it down to a normal layer.
| | 00:17 | So, I'm going to bring this down here
and bring that layer into my scene here.
| | 00:24 | Okay? So, let's return our
workspace, back to Essentials.
| | 00:30 | There's our normal workspace.
And I got this little urn up here.
| | 00:33 | So I'm going to shrink it down a little bit.
| | 00:35 | Let's bring it down. Let's
make it a little smaller.
| | 00:38 | Just this little urn up in the top
here like that, right there like that.
| | 00:42 | Maybe turn it just a little. Okay,
because down here, what I've done
| | 00:47 | is I've got a little cup that I created,
very much the same way you would that I
| | 00:51 | did the urn. It's just a path.
| | 00:55 | It's just a different shape and I
just used a different texture which has a
| | 00:59 | thicker bump to it. Lighting
source is the same, but it's
| | 01:02 | basically the same kind of a thing.
So now, what I'm going to do is let's
| | 01:06 | take this cup and move it down.
Let's get our urn, move it over a little
| | 01:10 | bit, and maybe shrink it just a little bit more.
| | 01:14 | There we go, that's a little
better. And bring it up there.
| | 01:18 | And then, the little cup down here, I'm
going to make him a little bit smaller, too.
| | 01:23 | Just a little bit, and move it down just a tad.
| | 01:27 | So now, what I'm going to do is create the
liquid that's going in between these two.
| | 01:33 | So in a layer on top of all this, I'm
going to go in here and let's pull back a
| | 01:37 | little bit. All right, I'm
going to select this nice
| | 01:41 | little rectangular shape right here,
like so nice big rectangular shape, and I'm
| | 01:46 | going to fill it with the color. Now,
the color right now doesn't matter,
| | 01:51 | because I'm going to now create
the colors that I'm going to use.
| | 01:54 | The thing is that a layer has to have
something in it for the first filter I'm
| | 01:57 | going to use to really work. So I'm
going to create a kind of a green liquid.
| | 02:03 | Okay, green, it'd be a nice color to
add with all this other stuff here.
| | 02:07 | So I'm going to pick a kind of
a really deep green, like that.
| | 02:12 | Even deeper, almost
getting into the blacks here.
| | 02:16 | Okay. Now, for the background color, I'm
| | 02:18 | going to pick a lighter version of
that green right there and click OK.
| | 02:23 | And what I'm going to do now is I'm
going to go in here and create the filter
| | 02:27 | and that's filter called fibers. And
fibers is going to go in here and, go
| | 02:32 | in there and add a little more variance to it.
| | 02:37 | And click OK and there it creates
this nice kind of a texture like that.
| | 02:42 | Now, I'm going to give another filter.
I'm going to go in here and apply a
| | 02:45 | little Gaussian Blur just to soften it
up, just a little bit, just a little.
| | 02:51 | There you go and another filter.
There's going to be a whole series of
| | 02:55 | filters here. going to
give it a Motion blur and it's
| | 02:57 | going to go straight up and down. That
will make it 90 and maybe a little less.
| | 03:03 | There that, that looks good. Click Ok.
| | 03:07 | That's getting there. But now I'm
going to give it yet another filter.
| | 03:11 | I want some sheens in there,
so I'm going to go in here.
| | 03:13 | And in my Filter Gallery, I have a, a
definitely not a spatter, which I used to
| | 03:19 | create the Book texture before. I'm
going to go in here and it's not in
| | 03:25 | this group, and it's in artistic.
It's a little thing called Plastic Wrap.
| | 03:31 | And you see what Plastic Wrap has done?
It's created these nice little sheens there.
| | 03:35 | So I'm going to kind of punch those up a
little bit and punch that all the way up.
| | 03:39 | So we get some really
strong highlights in there.
| | 03:40 | Let's get that detail. And we'll
smooth it out just a little bit
| | 03:44 | and click OK. So now, we
got those nice little shiny
| | 03:47 | things in there. One more
filter and that is a filter
| | 03:51 | that's also in our Filter Gallery.
And what, that, kind of crazy there, but
| | 03:57 | that's not the one we're going to use.
We're going to go out of Artistic and
| | 04:02 | it's in Stylus, nope, not Stylus, it's Sketch.
| | 04:06 | That's the one. It's
another thing called Chrome.
| | 04:09 | Chrome is going to add all this
additional craziness to the image here.
| | 04:13 | So I'm going to go in there and say Chrome.
| | 04:16 | Click OK. So now, what it's done is it added all
| | 04:19 | this additional stuff, but what I want
to do is apply that filter in a mode.
| | 04:24 | So it doesn't destroy what's underneath.
Yes, a mode, there was no mode in the
| | 04:28 | dialog box, but the modes
are applied after the fact.
| | 04:31 | So I come over here and you notice
that there's a Fade Filter Gallery so I'm
| | 04:34 | going to go in there and here's where the
mode is so I'm going to set this up to Overlay.
| | 04:40 | And Overlay, there we go. It
added all these additional sheens and
| | 04:43 | almost like little bubbles in there.
And added the other effects of Chrome to
| | 04:47 | my existing shape and click OK.
And there's my basis for my pouring
| | 04:53 | liquid, which I'm now going
to put that in Hard Light mode.
| | 04:58 | So it's going to kind of really have
this deep kind of a look to it or maybe we
| | 05:02 | want to play with soft light.
Let's see what that's going to, no,
| | 05:06 | that's totally lost. Let's
go with that Hard Light mode.
| | 05:09 | Okay, and now, what I'm going to
do is I'm going to go and warp it.
| | 05:13 | So I'm going to go and say Warp. And
I'm going to grab this guy and bring
| | 05:17 | it all the way over, this guy over (
UNKNOWN) This guy this way, and this guy
| | 05:21 | that way. Now I'm going to grab these handles.
| | 05:25 | These are the handles that control the up
and above, so I'm going to grab this guy
| | 05:28 | over and drag this guy this way, okay?
Same thing with these guys up here.
| | 05:33 | I'm going to drag this
over and drag this guy over.
| | 05:35 | Now, I'm going to play with these until I
have just the kind of shape that I want,
| | 05:39 | because right now, they're kind
of just pulling themselves away.
| | 05:44 | And I want to just play with these so we
have a nice kind of a liquidy kind of a
| | 05:48 | look right there like that. There we go.
| | 05:51 | And let's open these up just
a little more, there we go.
| | 05:56 | All right, click OK. And
there we'll see that we have our
| | 05:59 | pouring liquid. So I add the pouring liquid.
| | 06:03 | What I'm going to do now is I'm going to
rotate it and actually don't even need to
| | 06:08 | rotate it. What I'm going
to do is shrink it down a
| | 06:11 | little bit, because about the size
that we want, thicken it up a little.
| | 06:16 | Right there, like that. Now,
I'm going to rotate it, because I
| | 06:18 | don't want to lose anything on the sides.
I'm going to rotate it 90 degrees, like
| | 06:22 | that, and I'm going to give it a warp.
Let's move it into our scene, there we go.
| | 06:27 | I'm going to give it a warp, another warp.
| | 06:29 | And this time, I'm going to use one of
the existing ones like a Little Arch,
| | 06:33 | just like that. I'm going to
bring it down, I don't want
| | 06:36 | it so strong. There we go, click OK.
| | 06:39 | And now, I can go in there and rotate
this to form the liquid pouring out of my
| | 06:46 | urn and going into my cup, down below.
Put it in position right there like that.
| | 06:56 | And maybe we might want to
stretch it out a little bit.
| | 06:59 | There we go, that's looking much
better. Right there, like that.
| | 07:03 | So now, what I need to do for the final
touch is make it look like it is in fact pouring.
| | 07:08 | Let's do one more little
rotation, just like that.
| | 07:12 | That's better. Okay.
| | 07:13 | So now, I'll come in real close.
Real close like this and I'm going to
| | 07:18 | give this a mask. In the Mask,
I'm going to go in there and
| | 07:21 | just kind of paint in with black.
I'll make sure I've got a regular,
| | 07:26 | hard-edged, it's just a little bit harder.
| | 07:30 | And I'm going to go in
there and start to paint in.
| | 07:32 | And make sure that my opacity back up to 100%.
| | 07:35 | I'm going to paint in into
the mask, bring this down.
| | 07:40 | So, we just expose that whole section of
the, of our, our urn and just close it up
| | 07:45 | in there a little bit. And you
know what, let's unlock that and
| | 07:52 | move it up in there. There we go.
| | 07:56 | Not going to move the mask,
we're going to move the liquid.
| | 07:58 | Now you notice that it seems when I
move it, the mask remains where it was.
| | 08:02 | So I just want to get it
right into there like that.
| | 08:05 | Now, we go back to the Mask. And we
just going to go in there and just
| | 08:09 | kind of hide this whole
little section down up there.
| | 08:14 | And then, down here, we're going to
hide this little section of the cup right
| | 08:17 | there where the liquid is falling into the cup.
| | 08:20 | Now, let's just see this just as one layer.
| | 08:23 | Oh okay, so I can see what I'm erasing,
because a second ago I couldn't see
| | 08:27 | because the cup was so dark for now.
There we go and we pull back and we see
| | 08:32 | that we have liquid pouring into our cup.
Just in case, I'm going to take our cup
| | 08:37 | and straighten it a little bit. So
it makes our aim look a little better,
| | 08:42 | doesn't it? There we go.
| | 08:44 | It's pouring into the center
of the cup and there we go.
| | 08:49 | Now, in this final movie, what we're
going to do is create some kind of steam
| | 08:52 | or something coming out of this cup,
because we're conjuring up a weird spell here.
| | 08:59 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Making vapor| 00:00 | So the last thing this thing needs is a
little vapor coming out of here, because
| | 00:03 | the effect of this liquid being mixed
should have some kind of bizarre effect.
| | 00:08 | So, we're going to throw some little
vapor just coming out of this cup down below.
| | 00:13 | So I created a last layer here which
I'll call vapor and with white, I'm going to
| | 00:17 | get my Paintbrush tool. And
has gotten a little smaller here.
| | 00:22 | Let's just draw a couple of white tones
in here, and let's go to 100% Opacity and
| | 00:26 | make sure that I'm in my Paintbrush, 100%, yep.
| | 00:30 | And, okay, let's get that brush a
little bigger, and there we are.
| | 00:35 | Just draw a couple little
shapes right in here like this.
| | 00:39 | That's a good start, and with my
Smudge tool, what I'm going to do is I'm
| | 00:42 | going to make it a little bigger and I
just drag these guys down just like this.
| | 00:48 | Just kind of drag them in and drag them
down so that they're forming like this
| | 00:52 | stuff that's just seeping down and is
flowing down from the edges of a cup.
| | 00:58 | There you go, okay. So now,
I'm going to go in here and bring
| | 01:03 | down the Opacity for that. So I
get just this little, kind of a flow
| | 01:08 | like that. I'm going to
create a second layer on top
| | 01:12 | of that, I'll call it Vapor 2,
and we'll start the same way.
| | 01:18 | Throw a couple of white tones on top,
and just a few this time right there and
| | 01:23 | again with the smudging, I'll go in
there and start smudging these down.
| | 01:30 | See, so they start to form a second set,
which we can go in there and bring down
| | 01:33 | the Opacity on that one. See, so
now we got this second set on top
| | 01:38 | of the first. We're going to
make this one a little stronger.
| | 01:41 | And then, maybe if we want a little
puffiness on top, I can actually go to
| | 01:44 | those clouds. These are the
clouds we used before, right?
| | 01:47 | So, I'm going to go in here, I'm going to
kind of select this little range right in
| | 01:51 | here, okay? And what I'm
going to do is going to,
| | 01:54 | just drag these into this layer right
here, right there, and we're going to
| | 01:58 | shrink them down, way down and put them
right up on top here, and let's bring it
| | 02:02 | down some more. And we'll
kind of, give it a little
| | 02:08 | rotation there, put it right on
top here, right there like that.
| | 02:12 | And I'm going to go in, and go into Hue
Saturation and get rid of some of that
| | 02:15 | color in there, we don't need that color,
and let's make a little bit darker and
| | 02:18 | let's bring up some detail on those clouds.
| | 02:22 | So, I'm going to go in to my Levels and
just kind of bring in some darks, just
| | 02:25 | like that and make those
lights much lighter, there we go.
| | 02:29 | And maybe bring those midtones in, just so
we can get a little more detail in there.
| | 02:34 | Hit those darks, click OK and I put
that layer in Screen mode, so only those
| | 02:37 | little white clouds are going to show through.
| | 02:41 | And we're going down to Levels and just
make it a little darker, make those dark
| | 02:44 | see so that little halo there can disappear.
| | 02:48 | Click OK, and then I'm going to give that
a mask and in the mask, I'm just going to
| | 02:52 | very lightly paint. I'm going
to bring down the Opacity, and
| | 02:56 | just paint into this area here, just so
that we kind of lose that little edge of
| | 03:00 | our little smoke there. And
there, we see that now we have this
| | 03:04 | weird mixture being mixed from one urn
into the cup and who knows what we're
| | 03:08 | conjuring up.
| | 03:11 |

ConclusionGoodbye| 00:00 | So there you have this
installment of Dreamscapes.
| | 00:04 | Now, one thing to keep in
mind is, they're Dreamscapes.
| | 00:07 | They're the kind of things that
your imagination just conjures up.
| | 00:11 | All you have to do is have a good
imagination, have a couple of good
| | 00:14 | dreams, or just read a book and get
inspired, and then, those visuals that on
| | 00:18 | your mind, you can make come to life.
It's just a question of understanding
| | 00:24 | what to do in Photoshop, and how to
pick the right pictures, and you could do
| | 00:27 | anything your brain can imagine.
Have a good time and have fun.
