All right gang, as you may recall we're actively engaged in the long-term task of converting this photographic image right here as captured by Jason Stitt of the Fotolia Image Library. And we're building it up into a Na'vi as made famous by the fairly popular, arguably successful movie Avatar. So far we've made this kind of progress. And I've saved this progress as Sharpened irises.psd because that was our last step as you may recall.
And you can open that up if you're a premium member or you have access to the DVD. And just to give you a sense of the steps that we've apply so far, there is the original image. We went ahead and created a new layer, applied the Liquify command in order to distort features inside of the girl's face. And then I added another application of liquifying, yet another different layer, in order to achieve this effect of the bridge of the nose overlapping the eye. Thanks to this layer mask right there.
And then there are all kinds of layers that are making the skin blue and when you turn them on, this blue group right here, it's tempting to think that we've messed up at a few locations. For example, notice that we have this blue in back of the hair right there that looks great, but there is also this blue in front of the hair, that's on the hair, that makes it seem like, gosh! We got some blue on the hair and we need to go back and refine the mask, or the knockout layer, or something, but if you turn that blue group off you'll see that that blue inside of the hair is organic.
It's natural to the original image, which is perfect, which makes it seem after we add some more blue to the image, all this blue to the skin, that somehow the hair is reflecting some of these blue details. It makes everything blend together quite nicely in my opinion. And then we have this group called eye layers that's responsible for the greenly golden glowing eyes along with the pupils and their highlights. But we still have a few other things that we need to do.
We need to, for example, apply the warpaint and that's going to be three layers, by the way, heavily masked as you'll see. So a lot of layer masking going on and a bit of inner beveling applied with a layer effect. And then we have this background foliage, that's actually appearing in front of everything else, blurry leaves right here. It's so far in the foreground, it's out of focus. And then finally we have the dragonfly sitting at top as a smart object. And these are the elements that we'll be creating over the course of the following exercises.
