Photoshop Smart Objects explores the creation and use of Smart Objects, one of the most technically demanding tools in Photoshop. Deke McClelland walks through the four primary purposes of Smart Objects, and focuses on one of their most practical advantages, non-destructive transformations. This feature allows any object to be manipulated in any way, while still maintaining its original pixel information. (Music playing) Hi! I'm Deke McClelland, best-selling author of books and videos on Photoshop. And I'm here to welcome you to the unprecedented flexibility of Smart Objects in Photoshop CS4. AT it's simplest, a Smart Object is a container that holds an image and protects it from harm. Put a photo in a Smart Object and you can stretch it, twist it, blur it, sharpen it, rip it to absolute special effect shreds, all without harming a single pixel.
But that's just the beginning. In this series, I'll show you how to build Smart Objects from Camera Raw and Illustrator documents, create multiple true clones that update automatically from a single piece of source artwork, nest Smart Objects several levels deep, apply nondestructive editable smart filters and design highly accurate filter masks. Oh! And one quick note. Although the series is called Photoshop CS4 Smart Objects, it is, with very few exceptions, equally applicable to Photoshop CS3.
Naturally, I explain what those exceptions are and what workarounds are available in the upcoming movies. So with that, let's get started.
