Light painting using roads and passing cars
- For this shot, I'm going to explore a different kind of light painting, although it's a kind of light painting that you don't have a lot of control over. I'm set up by the side of this mountain road here, and I want to wait for a car to come by so I can get some nice light trails going down the road. I've got my camera set up high on the tripod, so it's looking down on the road, so I can see the full shape of the curve around the road. And before I talk about the camera settings, the most important thing about this type of shot is that you do it from a safe position. No photograph in the world is worth getting injured or killed over. So just make sure that you're off the road, you're not causing an obstruction or a distraction for other drivers, and just do it in a safe way. In terms of my aperture, I'm at F8. That's going to give me good depth of field throughout the scene. My exposure time's going to be about a minute, minute-and-a-half, so I can get good exposure for the…
