Photo Assignment: Fill Flash Portraits is an interactive video course, where participants learn how to augment outdoor lighting with a typical flash. Derrick Story shows how to use professional techniques to take great shots in a variety of situations, including full sun, partial shade, or even with odd cross-shadows. Derrick teaches how to create clean, natural-looking portraits even when the sun is at the worst possible angle. At the end of the course, Derrick describes how to upload photos to Flickr for review and comment.

Well, now that you have all these great fill-flash techniques bouncing around in your head, it's time to put them into play. So what I'd like you to do is go out, grab someone by the arm, take them outside and practice these techniques. Get some good shots out in the open sun. Get some good shots in the shade. Go through them on your computer and when you have a handful of examples that you think really embrace this assignment, then what I'd like you to do is come over here to Flickr, right here to this URL, flickr.com/groups/fillflashportrait. Join our public group here because this is a place where all of us can share our shots.
We can share our examples. You can look at other people's interpretation of this photo assignment. You can comment on how they approached it. We are going to have a discussion board where you can ask questions and the whole idea is for all of us to continue to learn little tips and techniques on lighting so that we all get better. Now joining the group is very easy. All we have to do is go to this link right here that says Join the Group and if you are signed in the Flickr, that's all you have to do to. You'll be able to join.
If you're not signed in to Flickr, you will get this little dialog here. Just enter your ID and your password and then you're in business And if you haven't joined Flickr yet, don't worry. First of all, it's free. Second of all, it's a lot of fun and third of all, if you have questions about it or you want to learn more about this wonderful online photo sharing service, guess what? We have a title. It is called Flickr Essential Training. It's facilitated by me, so hopefully that's a plus for you, and you can go watch some movies and learn about the aspects of Flickr that you want and then make sure that you come back to this page right here, our Fill Flash Portrait page.
Join in the fun. Submit some photos. Let's really learn from each other. So that's your assignment. Go out, take some pictures, upload them here. I look forward to seeing you online!
