In this course, Rich Harrington and Abba Shapiro give beginning photographers a brisk look at using strobe lights in a studio setting—lessons that easily translate to the field and locations, inside and out. Learn why shooting with strobes and continuous lighting makes such a big impact on your photographs, and how to buy a good, affordable starter kit. Rich and Abba also show how to set your gear up, trigger your lights, and make modifications with accessories like reflectors, umbrellas, and soft boxes. Finally, learn how to make the most of what you have in a series of lighting challenges.
Abba, I've got your standard flash here and you've got a mini flash. This to me, seems a lot easier than all of this stuff back here. >> Well, you know, I am a big fan of flashes and speed lights that you can put on your camera, but if I really want control, and I really want to do big things, there's amazing lights that you can get. And amazing modifiers that can really give you the picture that you want. >> Now before we start jumping into all the whozits and whatzit, and what's this gizmo, and why do I need this.
We just wanted to take a second to actually walk you through some of the major benefits of flash photography. You see, when it comes to flash photography, there are certain technical advantages. It is a lot easier to just walk around with a simple flash like this a speed light, but there is much better control to be had when we start to get to having gear. Now, don't worry, we don't think you have to run out and buy all of this gear. Right Abba? We are going to do some simple one strobe setups. >> Oh absolutely. As a matter of fact, the reason we have so much gear is because it's really confusing when you take that step off the precipice of using a speed light, to using strobes.
And part of what we want to do is explain what works best in each situation, so you can make the right choice for yourself. >> Alright, so before we jump into the specifics on gear, we're just going to take a moment to walk you through some four tangible benefits of why use speed lights.
