A favorite travel destination is the seaside small town—a place with salt air, beaches, shingled houses, and seafood on every menu. And a great way to get there is by car, making stops along the way.
In this course, photographer Mikkel Aaland travels to Mendocino, a classic seaside small town in Northern California, making stops in Mendocino's Anderson Valley and redwood forests along the way. The course details the gear and shooting strategies involved in capturing the personality of a small town and, just as important, its natural setting and the people who live there. Throughout the course, Mikkel emphasizes the importance of putting your own creative stamp on your travel photos through the use of simple props, friends, or family members.
So came out to the beach. We had a couple models, really, really cooperative people. normally I would be using my own wife and kids but it was great we had some models. got out here a little bit early. There was still a lot of sun left and I, I shot them in silhouette walking (SOUND) I really like silhouette shots. Especially today. They worked really well. So I think I got some good shots that, coming in to the beach. And then we got over towards the cave where we're going to shoot later. And and there was a waterfall. Not really a waterfall.
More like a trickle fall. But it, there was something really nice about it. There was a feeling that the colors. The water. so I asked the model, the woman, to pose in front of it. And I just had her try different things. I did very slow shutter speed. I had to use a neutral density filter, to get that slow shutter speed, because it was so bright out. I think I've got some (SOUND) Those are the kind of things that you have to look at later, (SOUND) And I had, her jumping over the water over this little stream that was coming, not I can't call it a stream, but a little bit of water was coming, coming across the beach.
And I had her jump over that, (SOUND) and then had her son do the same. And it was more just kind of experimenting, playing around, see what I could get (SOUND).
