IntroductionWelcome| 00:04 | Hi! I'm Christopher Spencer, and
welcome to PayPal Essential Training.
| | 00:09 | In this course, I'll be demonstrating
how to set up a personal or business
| | 00:12 | PayPal account that you can use
for sending and receiving payments.
| | 00:16 | I'll show you how to link bank accounts,
credit, or debit cards directly to your
| | 00:20 | PayPal account, so that you can
verify your identity, and move funds.
| | 00:24 | I'll also explain how to integrate your
PayPal account with other applications,
| | 00:29 | like QuickBooks, and Outlook, so that
you can create professional invoices, and
| | 00:33 | receive payments promptly.
| | 00:34 | I'll walk you through the process of
reviewing a transaction history report, and
| | 00:39 | even learning how to keep yourself
safe and secure when using PayPal online.
| | 00:44 | Armed with this knowledge, you'll be
increasing your online profits, and making
| | 00:48 | payments with PayPal in no time at all.

1. Getting StartedUsing PayPal| 00:00 | PayPal is a powerful money transfer
service that serves as a convenient and fast
| | 00:05 | alternative to traditional cash,
paper checks, and money orders.
| | 00:09 | PayPal accounts come in a few different
types, which I'll cover in another movie,
| | 00:13 | and you'll have the ability to fund your
PayPal account with an electronic debit
| | 00:17 | from a bank account, a
credit card, or a debit card.
| | 00:20 | You can also receive money from other
PayPal users, and then turn around and
| | 00:24 | spend that money immediately.
| | 00:27 | PayPal is often considered an eBay
payment service, but millions of individuals
| | 00:31 | and companies use PayPal everyday
for settling all types of debts.
| | 00:35 | There's a ton of ways to use PayPal,
and I would never begin to cover every
| | 00:39 | possibility in this movie, but
let's explore some real world examples.
| | 00:44 | Let's say you're sending your son to
college, and he'd like to buy some college
| | 00:47 | textbooks, but he's run out of cash.
| | 00:50 | You can instantly transfer money to
his PayPal account, and he'll have the
| | 00:53 | funds in a few seconds.
| | 00:55 | He can then turn around and use his
PayPal debit card that's linked to this
| | 00:59 | PayPal account, and buy those
books from the college bookstore.
| | 01:02 | Perhaps you've decided that you'd like
to buy a new computer, and you have some
| | 01:05 | money sitting in your PayPal account
balance that you've received for some old
| | 01:09 | antiques you've sold on eBay. You're
browsing around on Walmart.com, and you find
| | 01:14 | the perfect computer bundle with a
monitor, a printer, and a keyboard, and a
| | 01:18 | mouse; all the right things that
you need just for the right price.
| | 01:22 | You see the PayPal logo, and you realize
that you have just enough money to buy
| | 01:25 | that computer, so you add it to
your shopping cart, and you pay for it
| | 01:29 | immediately with those eBay auction proceeds.
| | 01:32 | One fun Friday night, you're out with
friends, and you realize you've left cash
| | 01:36 | at home, and there's no ATM insight.
| | 01:39 | Your co-workers suggest that you bump
the funds using the smartphone money
| | 01:43 | transfer feature on your PayPal iPhone
app, and in seconds, you've sent her $50,
| | 01:48 | and your fun continues well into the night.
| | 01:51 | Another great example would be for
your business. You've been after your best
| | 01:56 | client to pay for an old invoice
that's been lingering around for way to long,
| | 02:00 | and he mentions that he's prepared to
use a credit card, but alas, you don't
| | 02:04 | have one of those expensive merchant accounts,
and you aren't about to get one for this invoice.
| | 02:09 | You suggest to him that you will send him
a PayPal invoice through e-mail, and he
| | 02:13 | can enter his credit card details, and
pay for that invoice in a few minutes
| | 02:17 | without ever having to
sign up for a PayPal account.
| | 02:20 | These are some of the very real and
likely ways that PayPal can integrate
| | 02:24 | into your daily life.
| | 02:26 | You also have the ability to create
payment buttons that can be added to
| | 02:29 | your Web site for selling
individual products, or receiving money for
| | 02:33 | virtually any reason.
| | 02:35 | Setting up a shopping cart
integration is very simple for a programmer, so
| | 02:38 | that you can sell online, and offer PayPal
as a method of payment for your online store.
| | 02:43 | You can subscribe to a virtual terminal,
and then offer charge by phone, fax, or
| | 02:48 | e-mail options to your clients and
customers so that you'll have the same
| | 02:52 | credit card processing capabilities
that larger companies have, without
| | 02:56 | investing one dime in equipment.
| | 02:59 | You can create recurring subscriptions
for your clients and customers so that
| | 03:02 | monthly charges are automatically
collected from their PayPal account without
| | 03:06 | ever having to remember to bill them.
| | 03:08 | You can also accept donations for
your charity if you operate one.
| | 03:12 | Your imagination is the only limitation here.
| | 03:15 | PayPal is a super convenient cash
alternative for many situations.
| | 03:20 | If you have a programmer, or you are one
yourself, you can accomplish many more
| | 03:24 | cool tricks with PayPal, and
integrate it into your applications.
| | 03:28 | For those of us who don't write code,
you'll find yourself using PayPal to send
| | 03:32 | and receive money to everyone you know.

| Types of accounts| 00:00 | PayPal offers different account
types for different types of people.
| | 00:04 | I'll discuss each of the PayPal account
types, and why you'd use that particular
| | 00:08 | account type for your
personal or business activities.
| | 00:11 | To find the account types, you can
click on the Sign Up link, right here on the
| | 00:14 | PayPal Web site, and you'll be
presented with the three main account types.
| | 00:19 | Let's first talk about Personal Accounts.
| | 00:22 | PayPal offers a Personal Account
for individuals who shop online.
| | 00:26 | A Personal Account allows you to send
money to individuals and businesses using
| | 00:30 | their e-mail address.
| | 00:31 | A Personal Account allows you to
receive payments from others, but the fees
| | 00:35 | would be higher than with the other
account types that I'll cover here.
| | 00:39 | A Personal Account would be ideal for
someone who might wish to settle a private
| | 00:43 | debt, such as splitting a dinner check,
paying rent, or any one of a multitude
| | 00:47 | of other reasons that you
might need to pay someone.
| | 00:50 | By adding a credit or debit card, or
using a bank account, you'll be able to add
| | 00:54 | funds to your PayPal balance that
you can then turn around and spend.
| | 00:58 | A Premier Account is designed for online
sellers who are non-businesses, and when
| | 01:02 | you want to be paid online,
and make online purchases.
| | 01:06 | This account also permits you to
receive payments from buyers who wish to be
| | 01:09 | paid with a credit or a debit card, but
who don't already have a PayPal account.
| | 01:14 | You can also use a PayPal Debit Card to
spend your money, and PayPal offers you
| | 01:18 | a large variety of merchant services to
enhance the payment process for your business.
| | 01:24 | You'd use this account type if you were
not trading under a business name, but
| | 01:27 | that you use PayPal for a business of any size.
| | 01:30 | A Business Account has all the same
features as a Premier Account, but it
| | 01:34 | permits you to trade under a company name.
| | 01:37 | If you do business under a name other
than your personal name, this is going to
| | 01:41 | be the account type you'll want to set up.
| | 01:43 | Generally speaking, you'll need to be
an officer, or have written authorization
| | 01:47 | from the company to set up a business account.
| | 01:49 | For example, if you're a volunteer for a
local foundation, you probably wouldn't
| | 01:54 | have the authority to set up a PayPal
account for that charity, but if you're
| | 01:58 | the president, the vice president, the
treasurer, or secretary, or even a sole
| | 02:03 | proprietor doing business under a
fictitious business name, then it would be
| | 02:07 | appropriate to set up a Business Account.
| | 02:09 | A big plus for Business Accounts is the
capability of adding up to 200 employees
| | 02:14 | to your account with various levels of
authority to manage your account for you.
| | 02:19 | A Student Account is not a separate
account, and it's actually a sub-account
| | 02:23 | for a parent who would like to
provide a teen or child with the ability to
| | 02:26 | receive money through PayPal, and then spend
that money using a PayPal Student Debit Card.
| | 02:31 | The Student Account acts like a
Premier Account, but the parent controls the
| | 02:34 | account, the funding to that
account, and the access to it.
| | 02:37 | PayPal also offers a little known
Micropayments Account for businesses that
| | 02:41 | receive a very, very large
volume of small payments.
| | 02:45 | If your business typically receives a
lot of payments under $10 each, you'll
| | 02:50 | want to ask a PayPal
representative about this type of account.
| | 02:53 | The fees are reduced, and you'll
pay 5% plus 5 cents per transaction.
| | 02:59 | The way that the fees are reduced is
that the transaction fee is lower than it
| | 03:03 | is with a standard account,
although the percentage is slightly higher.
| | 03:06 | So for smaller payments,
you'll pay less in the end.
| | 03:09 | PayPal has account types
that match your situation.
| | 03:12 | In case you're wondering how many
accounts you're allowed to have, PayPal's
| | 03:16 | policy states that you may only have
one Personal Account, and one Premier or
| | 03:20 | Business Account at one time.
| | 03:22 | Each account must have a unique e-mail
address associated with it, and unique
| | 03:27 | financial information.
| | 03:28 | You can upgrade an account at any time
by clicking on this link right over here.

| How PayPal protects buyers and sellers | 00:00 | PayPal offers comprehensive buyer and
seller protections to ensure safe exchange
| | 00:04 | of money across their network.
| | 00:06 | To learn more about this, go to the
Security and Protection link over here at
| | 00:10 | the top of any PayPal page.
| | 00:13 | You can then scroll down and see the
tabs about how we've got you covered.
| | 00:18 | For buyers, PayPal offers zero liability
for eligible unauthorized transactions, and
| | 00:23 | PayPal monitors your account with
sophisticated software to ensure that
| | 00:26 | suspicious activity is stopped,
and you are notified about it.
| | 00:30 | When buying items online through eBay
or eCommerce sites, PayPal will allow you
| | 00:34 | to file a claim against a seller if
the item never arrives, or if the item you
| | 00:39 | receive is substantially not
the same as was advertised.
| | 00:42 | A special dispute resolution procedure
allows you open a case with PayPal, and
| | 00:47 | then you and the seller can
formally resolve the issue.
| | 00:50 | You can do that by going to the History
link, and taking a look for a transaction
| | 00:55 | for something you have purchased.
| | 00:56 | You click on the Details.
| | 01:00 | You take the Transaction ID number.
| | 01:04 | Then you click on the Resolution
Center, and you can report a problem.
| | 01:09 | The case must be opened within 45 days of
the date you made payment, and you have
| | 01:14 | 20 days to work it out with
the seller from that date.
| | 01:17 | You may escalate a case to be reviewed
by PayPal management, and if you don't do
| | 01:21 | so within 20 days of opening that case,
PayPal will automatically close it.
| | 01:25 | Let's go back to the Security and
Protection section and talk a little bit
| | 01:30 | about seller protection.
| | 01:32 | For US sellers, PayPal offers fraud
protection on eligible transactions when you
| | 01:38 | ship the merchandise to the address
listed on the transaction's details page,
| | 01:43 | and if you're not selling an item on
eBay, you're sure to ship that item to
| | 01:46 | a confirmed address.
| | 01:48 | Let me show you what that looks like.
| | 01:52 | Go ahead and click on the Details page,
and you'll see right there that there is
| | 01:56 | a confirmed address.
| | 01:57 | As long as I ship to that
address, I'll receive protection.
| | 02:00 | You'll also need to ship within 7
calendar days of being paid by the person
| | 02:03 | buying from you, and you need to keep
proof of shipment in the form of a tracking
| | 02:08 | number that can be traced online.
| | 02:10 | For any transactions over $250,
you also need to obtain signature
| | 02:15 | confirmation of delivery.
| | 02:16 | You will be covered for tangible
goods only when the payment page on PayPal
| | 02:20 | states that the transaction is eligible
for seller protection, but you won't be
| | 02:25 | covered if the item is picked up and
the buyer later disputes it, you sell
| | 02:29 | digital goods, you receive multiple
payments for the same item, or if the buyer
| | 02:35 | files a claim with PayPal that
the item is not as described.
| | 02:38 | For example, if you sell a black t-
shirt, and the buyer receives a red one, and
| | 02:42 | then later complains to PayPal about it.
| | 02:44 | In my personal experience, the
overwhelming number of transactions that take
| | 02:48 | place on PayPal go without any hitch at all.
| | 02:51 | On the rare occasion that you order a
diamond, and a cubic zirconia arrives,
| | 02:55 | PayPal offers tools to work
it out between the parties.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Fees| 00:00 | PayPal is free to buyers, and generally
the seller pays the fees to use the service.
| | 00:05 | There are nominal fees that are in
line with what you would expect to find at
| | 00:08 | most banks through their
credit card and eCheck programs.
| | 00:12 | PayPal is superior in that you never
have to pay a monthly fee unless you use
| | 00:16 | one of the enhanced
business services that they offer.
| | 00:20 | The rates depend upon the volume
you're doing, and the type of transaction,
| | 00:23 | whether it's domestic or international, and
the type of account you have set up with PayPal.
| | 00:28 | The nice thing about PayPal is that you
will never have to pay a fee unless you
| | 00:32 | are actually using the service.
| | 00:34 | Let's go ahead over to the PayPal site, and
we will take a look at how the fees work.
| | 00:39 | To learn more about fees, scroll to
the bottom of any PayPal page, and click
| | 00:43 | on the link for Fees.
| | 00:45 | For purchases, the seller pays between 1.9%,
and 2.9%, plus $0.30 per transaction.
| | 00:53 | Here is a link that takes you over
to a more detailed page that shows you
| | 00:57 | more about the services.
| | 00:58 | There are no monthly fees, there are
no set-up fees, and there are no gateway
| | 01:03 | fees, so you don't have to
pay for an expensive terminal.
| | 01:06 | Now, the lowest fee that's available,
you can find over here, if you click on
| | 01:11 | this link for PayPal for business.
| | 01:13 | In this section, you can see what the
discounts are if you start to increase you
| | 01:17 | volume above $3,000 a month.
| | 01:20 | The lowest discount available is for
merchants who sell more than a $100,000 a
| | 01:24 | month, and that may be in your future very soon.
| | 01:29 | Cross-border rates are a little bit higher.
| | 01:31 | You can learn more about those
by clicking on the link here.
| | 01:35 | A cross-border transaction is defined
as receiving payment from someone who is
| | 01:39 | outside the United States.
| | 01:42 | If you would like to transfer money to
a friend or a family member for personal
| | 01:45 | reasons, the Personal Transfer option
will be totally free if that money comes
| | 01:50 | directly from your PayPal
balance, or a bank account.
| | 01:54 | The cost will be 2.9%, plus $0.30 per
transaction, if that comes from a debit or a
| | 02:00 | credit card, or is sent to someone who
has a PayPal registered address overseas.
| | 02:05 | And at that point, you can decide if
you will pay the fee, or the person
| | 02:08 | receiving the money pays it.
| | 02:10 | I find that paying vendors and friends
is quick and easy, and I almost always
| | 02:14 | elect to pay the small transfer fee myself.
| | 02:17 | What's a good selling point for PayPal
in your business is that it's popular.
| | 02:21 | So many, if not most, of your
customers are going to have a PayPal account.
| | 02:26 | I can assure you from personal
experience that setting up a bank merchant
| | 02:29 | account has a lot of costs associated with it.
| | 02:32 | The machine that you have to buy in
order to accept cards can cost many hundreds
| | 02:37 | of dollars, and there are always
monthly fees associated with it.
| | 02:40 | You will never incur any of these
fees to set up a PayPal account.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Setting up an account| 00:00 | PayPal users can send and receive money
for virtually anything, to anyone, anywhere.
| | 00:06 | But we will be setting up our PayPal
account with an emphasis on selling.
| | 00:10 | So what we are going to want to do
is set up a Premier or a Business
| | 00:13 | account, because personal accounts are geared
for personal transfers, and for making purchases.
| | 00:19 | Don't get too confused by all the
options on the site. You can explore those
| | 00:23 | later on after you become more
familiar with all of PayPal's various uses.
| | 00:27 | To register a new account, go to to the
New To PayPal option, and click Sign Up.
| | 00:31 | Here, you will be presented with three options;
| | 00:34 | you can set up a Personal,
Premier, or a Business account.
| | 00:37 | We are going to be setting up a
Premier account, so I am going to click here
| | 00:40 | where it says Get Started.
| | 00:42 | Since we will be buying and selling, we
will need a Premier, or a Business account.
| | 00:46 | Now, go ahead and fill in your information.
| | 00:48 | First, fill in your e-mail
address, then select a password.
| | 00:52 | Your password must have at least eight
characters, and you should never use your
| | 00:56 | name or e-mail address.
| | 00:58 | Be sure to use a mixture of upper and
lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
| | 01:02 | And be sure your password is easy
for you to remember, but is hard for
| | 01:06 | someone else to guess.
| | 01:07 | PayPal will indicate if your password
is strong or weak, and it will give you
| | 01:11 | three green bars if you've got a
good thumbs-up green light to go ahead.
| | 01:15 | Then enter you legal first name.
| | 01:18 | You should not use your nickname, and you
can't use a pseudo-name or a fake name here.
| | 01:22 | It is very important that you put in
correct and accurate information in the
| | 01:25 | PayPal system, because it is a financial
system, and PayPal will not allow you to
| | 01:30 | use bogus information here.
| | 01:31 | Go ahead and enter your date of birth,
then put in your address. Scroll down,
| | 01:36 | then put in your zip code, and then your city.
| | 01:39 | Then select your State.
| | 01:40 | Now, you need to enter your telephone number.
| | 01:43 | You can read over the User Agreement,
Privacy Policy, Acceptable Use Policy, and
| | 01:48 | Electronic Communications
Delivery Policy if you wish.
| | 01:51 | To read these documents, you can
click on the hotlink right here.
| | 01:55 | If you like, you can print the
agreements, or you can download them to your
| | 01:58 | computer for later review.
| | 02:00 | Once you are done, go ahead and close
the tab, and go back to selecting this
| | 02:05 | checkbox, which says that you've
agreed to all of these agreements.
| | 02:10 | Then click Agree and create account.
| | 02:12 | Now, at this point PayPal is asking
if you want to add a bank account, or a
| | 02:16 | credit or debit card.
| | 02:18 | You can do that if you wish, but we are
going to be talking about that in a later movie.
| | 02:22 | You may also receive an e-mail from
PayPal asking you to activate your account.
| | 02:26 | This shows that you have control over that
e-mail address, and that you are a real person.
| | 02:31 | Now, once you have verified all your
information, and you have logged in to your
| | 02:35 | PayPal account, you can go ahead and
browse around, and take a look at all the
| | 02:39 | features that PayPal has to offer.
| | 02:41 | You can explore the site and discover
all these valuable features by going
| | 02:44 | through the different hotlinks, or you
can use the help system, or you can use the
| | 02:49 | links at the bottom of the page.
| | 02:52 | If at anytime you want to update
account information, add, or remove a debit
| | 02:56 | card, credit card, or checking account,
maybe add additional e-mail addresses
| | 03:00 | to receive payments, or make any changes
to your PayPal profile, you can always
| | 03:05 | click on the Profile option here, and select
the appropriate link to make those changes.
| | 03:11 | Since setting up a PayPal business
account is virtually the same as in this
| | 03:15 | movie, I don't feel you need a whole
another video to show you the ropes.
| | 03:18 | You can simply follow the same
procedure, and go and register your business
| | 03:22 | using the instructions
that are provided on the link.
| | 03:25 | Now, I still need to show you how to
add a debit card and bank account to your
| | 03:29 | profile, so that you can
become a PayPal verified member.
| | 03:32 | There are some significant benefits to
becoming verified, which we are going to
| | 03:36 | discover further along in this course.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Associating payment types with your account| 00:00 | A verified seller is someone who has
provided additional evidence of their
| | 00:04 | identity to PayPal by passing some
security checks, and completing the PayPal
| | 00:09 | verification process.
| | 00:11 | Buyers generally prefer to do
business with a verified member of the
| | 00:14 | PayPal community, because that buyer
can feel more confident doing business
| | 00:19 | with you, because verified members
are consistently considered trustworthy,
| | 00:23 | legitimate merchants.
| | 00:24 | First of all, let's sign in.
| | 00:26 | This is what the new user ID and
password that we've just created.
| | 00:32 | Since this is the very first time I've
logged in to this account, PayPal now
| | 00:36 | asks me to update some security
questions in case I ever need to recover my
| | 00:40 | password, or speak to an agent about my account.
| | 00:45 | Once you're done, click Submit.
| | 00:48 | When you first open your PayPal account,
there's going to be a limit on how much
| | 00:52 | money that you can send.
| | 00:54 | You can click here, View Limits,
and learn more about that.
| | 00:57 | At the moment, there are limits on the
account, because I'm not yet a verified
| | 01:01 | member of the PayPal community.
| | 01:03 | Verification is free of charge to you.
| | 01:06 | Now, for a U.S. PayPal user,
verification means that you've either added and
| | 01:11 | confirmed a bank account, or you've
received approval for a PayPal Plus Credit Card.
| | 01:17 | The bank account is usually the
most common way to become verified.
| | 01:20 | I recommend that you add a bank
account at this point, because you'll want to
| | 01:23 | be able to transfer your PayPal payments
from your buyers into your Checking Account.
| | 01:28 | You can always add a debit or credit
card too, so that if you decide to buy
| | 01:32 | something online, you can select
that card for your method of payment.
| | 01:36 | Go ahead and click on the Profile link,
and then you'll see here that you can go
| | 01:40 | ahead and add a bank account.
| | 01:42 | We're going to go ahead and do that now.
| | 01:44 | Now, you need to indicate whether this bank
account is a checking or a savings account.
| | 01:47 | In this case, I'm using a checking
account. And at the bottom of one of your
| | 01:51 | checks, you'll find a routing number.
| | 01:53 | That's the first number that you'll need
to enter. Then enter the account number.
| | 01:57 | Now, the system automatically
recognizes the routing number, and indicates
| | 02:01 | what bank you're with, so that it helps you
to confirm that you've entered it correctly.
| | 02:05 | This bank account will become the
default payment method for any time you make a
| | 02:09 | purchase on your PayPal account.
| | 02:11 | You can always change that later, but
this is something to keep in mind, just in
| | 02:15 | case you're buying something.
| | 02:16 | Then go ahead and click Continue.
| | 02:18 | Now, there are a couple of options here.
| | 02:21 | You have the ability to instantly
confirm your account, which is you enter in
| | 02:26 | your bank's online ID and secured password.
| | 02:28 | That is the one you set up with your
bank. Or, you can make two tiny deposits
| | 02:33 | into your bank account, which you can
then confirm online at your bank, and then
| | 02:37 | enter them into the PayPal system.
| | 02:39 | Once you do that, which takes a couple
of days, you can go ahead and confirm
| | 02:43 | your PayPal account.
| | 02:44 | I'm going to go ahead and
try to confirm this instantly.
| | 02:47 | So what I'll do is I'll go ahead
and type in the information right now.
| | 02:50 | Then I'm going to click Confirm Instantly.
| | 02:54 | Now I have successfully confirmed and
linked my bank account to my PayPal account.
| | 02:59 | Now I have the ability to pay with this
bank account instantly, without exposing
| | 03:03 | any of my financial information.
| | 03:06 | I can go ahead and fund my PayPal account
if I want to send money to someone else.
| | 03:10 | I can also retrieve funds from people
who've paid me as a seller, and put them
| | 03:15 | into my bank account.
| | 03:16 | Now I'm going to click Continue.
| | 03:18 | Now you see here in the bank account
summary that that account has been linked
| | 03:22 | to my PayPal account.
| | 03:24 | I can add additional bank accounts
here, or I can go back to my Profile, and I
| | 03:28 | can go ahead and add a credit or a debit card.
| | 03:31 | Now, if at any time you want to
update this information, add, or delete a
| | 03:35 | debit or a credit card, or a checking account,
you can always return back to the Profile link.
| | 03:40 | I'm going to go ahead and
proceed to add a credit card right now.
| | 03:44 | The system already recognizes
my first name and enters it.
| | 03:47 | Then I can select the card type.
| | 03:50 | Once I do that, I'll want to enter the
card number, then the expiration date, and
| | 03:55 | then the 3-digit code from the back of the card.
| | 03:57 | Scroll down and confirm the billing address.
| | 04:01 | If the address that you're using
with PayPal isn't the exact same address
| | 04:05 | that's associated with your debit or credit
card, go ahead and enter a new address there.
| | 04:10 | Now click Add Card.
| | 04:13 | I have now successfully added my Visa card,
which is a Visa debit card, to my PayPal account.
| | 04:19 | Now, at this point, I can go ahead and start
using this account to send and receive funds.
| | 04:25 | Now, I'm going to go ahead and click
over here to My Account, and you can see my
| | 04:29 | status has now changed
to that of being verified.
| | 04:32 | I'm going to click on the View Limits
option, and you can now see that my sending
| | 04:37 | limit has been lifted.
| | 04:39 | We've now completed the process of
adding our financial information, and we're
| | 04:43 | ready to get into many more aspects of
using our PayPal account, including buying
| | 04:47 | and selling, but also learning about
mobile payments, and features that are
| | 04:51 | available to you through PayPal.

| Finding help| 00:00 | Sometimes you'll need help when
you're on PayPal, and there are a lot of
| | 00:04 | different resources available to you, so that
you can get the help you need, when you need it.
| | 00:09 | To get assistance with PayPal, there's a
Help link, and you'll also see a Contact Us link.
| | 00:13 | I'm going to go ahead
and click on the Help link.
| | 00:16 | You'll find the Help link at the top of
every PayPal page, and then you can look
| | 00:20 | here at the very top and enter a question.
| | 00:22 | You can go ahead and type in a specific
question that you might have, such as you
| | 00:25 | didn't receive an item, and you
want to know what to do about it.
| | 00:29 | You can go ahead and enter a specific
question in plain English, and then click Search.
| | 00:34 | Now, PayPal will present you with
different subjects, and articles that you can
| | 00:37 | read about the issue, and you can go
ahead and click on the one that appears to
| | 00:42 | be most relevant to what you're looking for.
| | 00:45 | Then you get an answer.
| | 00:46 | Now, in this case, PayPal says to
resolve this problem, you can go ahead and
| | 00:50 | click on the Resolution Center near the
top of the page, and you can go ahead and
| | 00:53 | click Report a Problem.
| | 00:54 | Now, I'm going to go ahead and scroll
through here, and click on Contact us.
| | 01:00 | You'll be brought back to the same
page, and you can also select topics.
| | 01:04 | So you can browse through specific
topics, and you can look at the subtopics.
| | 01:09 | Each of these tabs has different topics and
subtopics that might be relevant to your question.
| | 01:13 | Then I'm going to scroll down and
look in section 2 for quick answers.
| | 01:18 | Now, you can click here, and see a
list of the most frequently asked
| | 01:21 | questions and answers. Learn how to
send money, how to receive money, how
| | 01:25 | to dispute an item,
| | 01:26 | so the answer to my question would
most likely be Open a Dispute, right here.
| | 01:30 | We can also get assistance from the
automated help assistant called Sarah.
| | 01:34 | I'm going to go ahead and click here,
and I'll scroll down, and you can go ahead
| | 01:39 | and ask a specific question.
| | 01:41 | Now, what you'll find about Sarah is
that she's geared to answer specific
| | 01:47 | questions about specific keywords.
| | 01:49 | In this case, I didn't get the answer
to my question, but if I had asked something
| | 01:53 | like, Tell me about fees for using
PayPal, what would happen is that Sarah
| | 01:59 | would key on the word fees, and present you
with an article about that specific subject.
| | 02:04 | So Sarah is not necessarily the
right solution for every question.
| | 02:08 | You also have the ability to go to the
Community Boards, and ask the community.
| | 02:13 | So if you purchased something on eBay,
and you haven't received it yet, and you
| | 02:16 | used PayPal to pay it, you can go ahead
and create a profile on a Community Board,
| | 02:21 | and post a question.
| | 02:22 | So I'm going to go ahead and do
that now to show you as an example.
| | 02:27 | Then I can go ahead and post a topic.
| | 02:28 | I'll need to give my topic a title.
| | 02:32 | Then I'll scroll down, and post the question.
| | 02:42 | Now, you'll notice that based on the
title that I put on my thread, or my
| | 02:46 | posting, other people have posted
similar questions, and received answers to them
| | 02:51 | already, and you'll see that here at
the top before you enter your message.
| | 02:55 | If the solution you're looking for is
there, you can go ahead and just read that
| | 02:58 | solution, and you don't need to make the posting.
| | 03:01 | You can put some optional tags, and
you can then go ahead and submit.
| | 03:05 | If you want to be notified when
someone else responds to your posting, you're
| | 03:09 | going to want to check that box
there, and click the Submit button.
| | 03:13 | Now, your posting will appear. It's right here.
| | 03:15 | You can click on it and see it.
| | 03:19 | Now, if I want to, I can go ahead and select
some of these other options if I'd like to.
| | 03:25 | I can go ahead and unsubscribe this
post, and then it will be taken off.
| | 03:29 | Now, additional help is available here,
or you can call PayPal if you want
| | 03:33 | to click on this link.
| | 03:34 | You'll be given a Web PIN, which is the
way to authenticate yourself when you
| | 03:37 | call in, and a customer support
agent will be able to help you.
| | 03:41 | If you'd like to, you can also e-mail
PayPal; click here, and you can e-mail a
| | 03:46 | question that you might have.
| | 03:47 | You first have to select a topic, which
is, in this case, I didn't receive my item.
| | 03:50 | I want to ask about creating a dispute.
| | 03:53 | Then, you can choose a subtopic, which
is Buyer Complaints, and if you already
| | 03:57 | have a case or claim number, you can enter
it there, and then you type some text here.
| | 04:02 | Once you're done, you'll be able to go
ahead and click on the Submit button, and
| | 04:08 | then someone will reply to your e-mail shortly.
| | 04:10 | Speaking candidly, PayPal is pretty
easy to use once you get the hang of it.
| | 04:15 | The most likely reasons you'd want help
is that you may have a concern about a
| | 04:18 | specific transaction, or you need
assistance with more complex matters, like
| | 04:23 | merchant tools, or Web integration.

2. PayingPaying for eBay purchases| 00:00 | One of the most common ways to
use PayPal is the payment of items
| | 00:03 | you've purchased on eBay.
| | 00:05 | PayPal developed its roots within
the eBay community, and therefore is
| | 00:08 | synonymous with eBay trading.
| | 00:11 | I'll show you how to make a
purchase, and pay for it with PayPal.
| | 00:14 | The first step is to find something to buy.
| | 00:17 | So I'm going to go ahead and search for
an item that I'm interested in buying.
| | 00:19 | I need a new belt, and I need a genuine
leather belt, so I'll put in genuine leather.
| | 00:25 | I know the word genuine is
oftentimes a keyword in people's titles.
| | 00:29 | Then I'm going to go ahead and type
in charcoal, because I like the color
| | 00:33 | charcoal, and let's go ahead and see
how many listings there are available.
| | 00:37 | So, I've found what I'm interested
in, and I go ahead and select it.
| | 00:40 | I want one with a silver buckle; not a
gold one, and then I'll pick the Size.
| | 00:44 | Now, I'm a pretty big boy, so I'll put
in 48, because that's how big my waist is.
| | 00:49 | Then I'll put in the quantity that I
want, and I'll go ahead and click Buy It Now.
| | 00:54 | Now, you'll need to be signed in.
| | 00:56 | Remember, your PayPal and eBay user IDs
are different, so you'll be signing in
| | 01:00 | with your eBay User ID.
| | 01:03 | My eBay User ID here, then
I'll go ahead and click Sign In.
| | 01:08 | Then I'll go ahead and review
the total, and Commit to Buy. Okay.
| | 01:16 | Now, at this point, I'm
presented with a pay now option.
| | 01:20 | Normally, you jump right in and pay
for the item with PayPal, but I'll show
| | 01:23 | you another option.
| | 01:24 | So sometimes, maybe you're not sure
if you have enough money in your PayPal
| | 01:27 | account, and maybe you're not ready to
make the payment, you can go ahead and
| | 01:31 | Commit to Buy, and then come back to it later.
| | 01:34 | This transaction is
neatly parked in your My eBay.
| | 01:37 | This is a link you'll
see at the top of the page.
| | 01:39 | So if I go to My eBay, Purchase History,
I can see a list of the items that I've
| | 01:44 | purchased, and they're ready to be paid.
| | 01:46 | So I can go ahead at this point and
see that this item has not been paid for,
| | 01:50 | because the icon here,
Paid or not, is not black.
| | 01:54 | If I go ahead and click Pay now,
I'll then be able to review my shipping
| | 01:58 | address, I can change my address if I
want to, and then I can scroll down, and I
| | 02:04 | can go ahead and add any sort of gift
card that I might have, or a certificate, or
| | 02:08 | coupon. I can review my total, and
then I can click Continue with PayPal.
| | 02:13 | Now, at this point, I'll need to
put in my PayPal e-mail, and password.
| | 02:19 | You can also use Bill Me Later, and if
you don't have a PayPal account, you can
| | 02:23 | use a credit or a debit card here at the bottom.
| | 02:26 | Then I'm going to click Log In.
| | 02:29 | Since eBay and PayPal are integrated,
you'll now be able to see the banking
| | 02:34 | information that we've entered, and
it'll confirm that you're going to be paying
| | 02:37 | for this transaction using the checking account.
| | 02:40 | Now I'm going to go ahead and click Continue.
| | 02:43 | Now I need to confirm the payment.
| | 02:45 | So I'm going to review one last time
all the information that I've entered, and
| | 02:49 | I'll go ahead and scroll down to do
that, and then I can click Confirm payment.
| | 02:55 | Now, that's a bingo.
| | 02:57 | Now, at this point, I'm being
reminded by the system that this purchase is
| | 03:01 | covered by eBay Buyer Protection, so I know
I'm trading safely and securely on the site.
| | 03:06 | Within a short period of time, the belt
will arrive, and most likely, the seller
| | 03:10 | will notify me with a tracking number,
or delivery confirmation number, that the
| | 03:14 | belt has been shipped.
| | 03:15 | If I want to see the status of this
listing, I can go to My eBay, and Purchase
| | 03:19 | History, and I can take a look at it there.
| | 03:22 | Now I can see that this item has been
paid for; you can see that this has
| | 03:26 | turned blue, and that indicates
that the payment has been made.
| | 03:29 | This smooth integration between eBay and
PayPal makes the entire process so much
| | 03:34 | faster than using paper
checks that are so last century.

| Using the Send Money option| 00:00 | The Send Money tab is one of the
most commonly used features in PayPal.
| | 00:04 | If you aren't glued to eBay all day,
you'll be using this tab quite often to
| | 00:08 | send payments to buy things, settle
personal debts, make micropayments to
| | 00:13 | friends and family, or use PayPal
for a variety of other purposes.
| | 00:17 | First of all, you'll need to be signed
into the system, then click on the blue
| | 00:21 | link which says Send Money, right here.
| | 00:25 | You'll see three submenu options.
| | 00:27 | The first one is the one that we'll be
using to send money using an e-mail address.
| | 00:31 | So I'll go ahead and
enter the e-mail address here.
| | 00:40 | Then I'll enter an amount.
| | 00:42 | Then select the currency. There's 24
different options that you can select here.
| | 00:46 | You can select in one of these currencies.
| | 00:48 | In this case, I'll be using U.S. Dollars.
| | 00:51 | Then indicate what the purchase is
for: Goods, Services, or eBay Items,
| | 00:56 | then click Continue.
| | 00:59 | In the next page, you'll want to go
ahead and review your payment information.
| | 01:03 | You can add coupons or gift
certificates at this point, if you happened to
| | 01:06 | have one, and I'm going to go ahead and
scroll down, and show you how to change
| | 01:11 | the method of payment.
| | 01:13 | Since we have both a bank account, and
we have a debit card associated with this
| | 01:17 | PayPal account, I can switch
back and forth between them.
| | 01:21 | If I'd like to use the bank account,
I'm going to go ahead and switch this,
| | 01:24 | because the default is to use the
debit card, so I'll click Change.
| | 01:28 | Now, in the next screen, I can
select eCheck, or I can switch back to
| | 01:33 | the credit or debit Card.
| | 01:35 | In this case, I want to use an
electronic check, and have the money debited like
| | 01:39 | a virtual check from my bank account.
| | 01:41 | If I have more than one bank account
assigned to this account on PayPal, I can
| | 01:45 | go ahead and select which one I'm
going to use, and then I can click Continue.
| | 01:48 | Now you'll see here that the method of
payment has been switched to my bank account.
| | 01:53 | Now I can scroll down and enter a
subject for the e-mail that will be received
| | 01:56 | by the person getting this payment, and
then I can enter a personalized message.
| | 02:03 | Once you're done, you can click the
button at the bottom that says Send Money.
| | 02:07 | If you expect to be sending multiple
payments to the same person, you can now
| | 02:11 | add them to your contact address book.
| | 02:14 | Once you do this, it'll make it a
lot easier to send that person payments
| | 02:17 | again in the future.
| | 02:18 | Once you confirm the payment, the
recipient will receive an e-mail, and if you're
| | 02:22 | using a PayPal balance transfer, or a
credit or debit card, the payment will be
| | 02:27 | available immediately to the other person.
| | 02:29 | Then they can log in to their PayPal
account and use the money right away.
| | 02:33 | With the electronic check that I just
sent, there will be a little bit of time
| | 02:36 | to clear that check, so the other person
may need to wait a couple of days before
| | 02:40 | the funds become available.
| | 02:41 | In most cases, the process occurs
simultaneously, because you'll be using your
| | 02:45 | PayPal balance, or your credit card.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Making personal transfers| 00:00 | Okay, so it makes total sense to me
that PayPal should get a small cut of my
| | 00:04 | business activities, because accepting
payments at my various companies requires
| | 00:09 | a bank merchant account, which
involves a little bit of bank fees to receive
| | 00:13 | credit card payments.
| | 00:14 | There are times when I want to send
someone money, and I really don't feel PayPal
| | 00:18 | deserves a fee for essentially repaying
a private loan, or sending a payment to
| | 00:23 | someone I know for
something of a personal nature.
| | 00:25 | PayPal recognizes that a personal
transfer should be free, and they offer a
| | 00:29 | special tab for that purpose.
| | 00:31 | I'm going to walk you through a couple of
scenarios, and I'll show you how they work.
| | 00:35 | The first one is using the Send Money
tab to send a personal payment transfer to
| | 00:40 | someone in the United States.
| | 00:42 | So I click Send Money, and I'll type in
the e-mail address of the person that I'd
| | 00:46 | like to send money to.
| | 00:49 | I see here that they've already
received money from me in the past, so I'll
| | 00:52 | select their e-mail address, and then
I'll go ahead and put in a dollar amount.
| | 01:00 | Now, instead of using Purchase,
I'm going to use Personal.
| | 01:04 | Then I'm going to indicate that
this is a payment that's owed.
| | 01:07 | I can select Gift, Payment owed, Cash
Advance, but bear in mind if you use Cash
| | 01:11 | Advance, and you fund it with a credit
or debit card, your bank that issues that
| | 01:16 | debit or credit card may charge
you additional fees for a cash advance.
| | 01:19 | So I'm going to go ahead and click
this option, and then click Continue.
| | 01:24 | Now, you'll notice that there is
a fee for sending this payment.
| | 01:27 | The reason that there's a fee for
sending this payment is because I'm using a
| | 01:31 | debit card to fund the transaction.
| | 01:33 | I'm going to go ahead and change this.
| | 01:35 | First, I'll scroll down, then I'll
click Change Payment Method right here, then
| | 01:40 | you can select the eCheck option.
| | 01:43 | Once you select the
eCheck option, click Continue.
| | 01:45 | And you'll see that the fee has now
been removed off of the transaction.
| | 01:50 | I'm going to scroll down.
| | 01:51 | You can optionally enter a subject line,
and a message, so I'm going to go ahead
| | 01:55 | and click Send Money now.
| | 01:59 | Now, that personal transfer was completely free.
| | 02:02 | If I'm going to send a personal transfer
to someone out of the country, there'll
| | 02:05 | be a small transaction fee.
| | 02:07 | I'm going to click Send Money.
| | 02:10 | Then I'm going to enter an e-mail
address of someone I know has a PayPal account,
| | 02:14 | and also is out of the country.
| | 02:15 | So I'll go ahead and start by clicking
in here, and then typing in their address.
| | 02:23 | Then I'll type in a dollar amount, and
then I'll click the Personal Transfer tab
| | 02:29 | and I'm going to keep this as a
gift, and then I'll click Continue.
| | 02:32 | Now, in this screen, you'll see
that there is a fee being charged.
| | 02:36 | Now, I'm going to go ahead and scroll
down to show you that you can see here, the
| | 02:40 | bank account is still being used to fund
the transfer, but there will be a $0.05
| | 02:44 | fee on this transfer.
| | 02:46 | If I want to, I can bill that fee back
to the person receiving the money, and
| | 02:51 | they'll receive, instead of $10.00,
they'll get $9.95.
| | 02:55 | I'm going to go ahead and pay the $0.05
fee, and then I'm going to go ahead
| | 02:58 | and enter in a message.
| | 03:00 | Once you're done entering the message,
you can click Send Money, and then $10.05
| | 03:04 | will be charged to my bank
account, which includes the $0.05 fee.
| | 03:09 | So this little subtlety here is that
you've now sent two types of payments;
| | 03:13 | you've sent one to someone on a
personal transfer, which is totally free, using
| | 03:17 | a checking account.
| | 03:18 | There would have been a fee if I used a
credit or a debit card. And then also, I
| | 03:22 | sent an overseas payment on a personal
transfer, which had a very small fee, and
| | 03:27 | it was sent personally, but it had
a small transaction fee as well.
| | 03:30 | Personal transfer is a convenient way
to send virtual cash to anyone, and can
| | 03:35 | eventually serve to replace cash or
checks for your personal payments entirely.
| | 03:39 | So, between your friends, your
colleagues, and family members who have PayPal
| | 03:43 | accounts, this is a fast and
easy way to get money to them.

| Understanding recurring payments and billing agreements| 00:00 | Some merchants and organizations
allow you to make recurring payments.
| | 00:04 | This means if you set up a billing
agreement with someone, such as a gym which
| | 00:07 | may have a monthly service charge, or a
charity that asks you to make an annual
| | 00:12 | pledge, so long as that billing
agreement is in place, your account will be
| | 00:16 | debited the agreed upon amount
on the frequency you've agreed to.
| | 00:20 | So let me show you how this works.
| | 00:22 | It's like a contract, actually.
| | 00:24 | So let's go ahead and take a
look at a real world example.
| | 00:27 | I'm a member of the Hollywood high
school alumnus, so I graduated in 1987, and I
| | 00:33 | pay me annual dues through the Webvsite.
| | 00:35 | Well, how you can do this on a
frequency of once a year is, since they have set
| | 00:39 | up a recurring billing agreement with PayPal,
| | 00:42 | I can go over to the donations page, and
click the Link that offers me the option
| | 00:47 | to make my Annual Dues Pledge right here.
| | 00:50 | So, when I click on that Link,
you'll see that a page will show up, which
| | 00:53 | allows me to go ahead and enter in my
PayPal information, and agree to a $20.00
| | 00:58 | per year donation.
| | 01:01 | So it's important to note that $20.00
will be charged automatically every
| | 01:05 | year, at the same time each year,
until I cancel that billing agreement.
| | 01:08 | So, the first thing I'm going to
do is put in my PayPal information.
| | 01:12 | In this case, I'll type in my PayPal e-mail
address, and my password, and then I'll click Log In.
| | 01:20 | Once you've done that, you can review
the agreement, which says that I'll be
| | 01:24 | billed on an annual basis. And it says
here, all future payments will be made
| | 01:27 | with your default payment method, unless
you select a preferred payment method.
| | 01:32 | So, once I've gone ahead through this
part of the agreement, I'll go ahead and
| | 01:35 | click Agree and Pay.
| | 01:37 | $20.00 will be taken out of my
PayPal account immediately, and then
| | 01:41 | exactly one year from today, I'll go
ahead and have another charge taken out
| | 01:46 | of my account as well.
| | 01:47 | You always have control over pre-
approved payment agreements, and you can
| | 01:51 | initiate or cancel subscriptions,
automatically billed payments, and installment plans.
| | 01:57 | Be sure that when you accept any
payment request from another person or company
| | 02:01 | that you read the details when you go
to pay, and ensure that you're aware of
| | 02:04 | what you're getting yourself into.
| | 02:07 | When in doubt, you can always
return to the Profile option, and see the
| | 02:10 | preapproved payment section to review them.
| | 02:11 | So I'm going to go and click
here, and go to my account overview.
| | 02:16 | I'll click on my Profile.
| | 02:18 | I'll go to More Options.
| | 02:19 | Then I'm going to click on My Money.
| | 02:23 | Then I can see the My preapproved payments.
| | 02:27 | Then I'll click Update.
| | 02:30 | Here, I'll see a list of all the
preapproved payments, and if I want to cancel an
| | 02:34 | agreement I've made, I can simply click
on the link, and then I can click Cancel.
| | 02:43 | Now, at this point, the
Profile has been cancelled.
| | 02:45 | It will not be charging me again in a year.
| | 02:48 | Reccurring payments are very convenient,
and an easy way to keep track of paying
| | 02:52 | people on a periodic basis
without having to remember it.
| | 02:56 | It's very, very handy, and a
great way to use your PayPal account.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Paying on other sites| 00:00 | With most major companies now
offering PayPal as a method of payment at
| | 00:04 | their Web sites, you'll appreciate the
opportunity to use this secure method of payment.
| | 00:09 | Some sites permit you to simply pay
with PayPal quickly, and that requires no
| | 00:14 | registration, such as Buy.com.
| | 00:16 | Other sites, such as Walmart.com, will
actually suggest that you register on their
| | 00:20 | site, and then go ahead and
log in before using PayPal.
| | 00:24 | Some sites offer guest checkout;
Walmart.com is one of them.
| | 00:28 | However, they will also ask you to
enter additional information during the
| | 00:32 | transaction, which can be avoided
when you're using a site that is fully
| | 00:35 | integrated with PayPal Checkout.
| | 00:37 | That's called Express Checkout.
| | 00:39 | Since I'm a huge fan of both companies,
I don't mind registering on Walmart.com,
| | 00:44 | but when you use a site like Buy.com,
your payment and shipping information is
| | 00:48 | automatically transferred to the
merchant's site using the PayPal API, which is
| | 00:53 | short for Application Programming Interface.
| | 00:56 | This avoids the need for you to both
sign in to PayPal, and make a separate user
| | 01:00 | account on the merchant's site.
| | 01:01 | This quickly speeds up the
checkout and the payment process.
| | 01:05 | I'm going to go ahead and show you an
actual purchase that I'm going to make on
| | 01:09 | the Buy.com Web site.
| | 01:10 | So the first step is to find
something you'd like to purchase.
| | 01:13 | So I'm going to go ahead and type in
here that I'm looking for a fabric steamer.
| | 01:19 | That helps to make my clothes
ironed, without having to iron them.
| | 01:22 | A steamer is a quicker way to iron
clothing. And then I find one that I'm
| | 01:25 | interested in, which is the
SteamFast, and I'll click on there.
| | 01:30 | Then you'll see here that Buy.com
offers you a total of $34.99. plus $9.42
| | 01:36 | shipping; they give you a total there.
| | 01:38 | And it says that it ships from the
merchant TigerDirect, and it's got a pretty
| | 01:42 | good rating: 4 1/2 stars out of 5. And
then I'm going to add it to my cart.
| | 01:47 | Now, once that's done, I can click
Checkout, and I'm going to go ahead and proceed
| | 01:54 | to the Checkout screen, right here.
| | 01:57 | Now, you could scroll down and
immediately use PayPal as a method of checkout.
| | 02:03 | Once you do that, you'll need to sign in
to your PayPal account, then click Log In.
| | 02:12 | Then you'll see your shipping address
information, and the method of payment that
| | 02:16 | you'll be using to purchase the item.
| | 02:18 | Confirm all the information, then click Continue.
| | 02:22 | Now you can confirm the entire order,
and then click on Place Your Order.
| | 02:28 | The order has been placed,
and the item will be shipped.
| | 02:31 | That was very fast.
| | 02:32 | You'll notice that I didn't have
to register or add any additional
| | 02:36 | information to this Web site.
| | 02:38 | I'm going to go ahead and do the same
process on Walmart.com, and I'm going to
| | 02:43 | purchase something that I need there too.
| | 02:45 | I need MACH3 disposable razors.
| | 02:47 | That's the type of razor that I use.
| | 02:50 | When I type in MACH3, I'll go ahead and
find the list of MACH3 razors, and I'll
| | 02:54 | find the one I'm interested in.
| | 03:00 | Here it is: MACH3 disposable, 3 count, 2pack --
that's 6 razors -- and then I'll add it to my cart.
| | 03:06 | Then I'll go to the cart and check out.
| | 03:10 | Then I go ahead and proceed to checkout.
| | 03:12 | Now, you'll see that Walmart actually
asks me if I want to sign in, because I
| | 03:17 | might be a returning customer, or do
I want to create an account, or just
| | 03:21 | continue as a guest.
| | 03:23 | Now, you'll see that they
ask for additional information.
| | 03:25 | Now, unlike Buy.com, which
didn't ask me any information --
| | 03:29 | it retrieved all the
information off of my PayPal account --
| | 03:32 | you'll see that they're asking to
collect some additional information, probably
| | 03:36 | because they want to do some marketing to me.
| | 03:38 | Well I'll go ahead and play along,
and I'll put in my information here.
| | 03:41 | Then I click Continue.
| | 03:48 | I have to enter my
shipping address information here.
| | 03:51 | I didn't have to do that
with the Buy.com checkout.
| | 04:05 | Then I confirm that my billing
address is the same as the shipping address.
| | 04:10 | Then I'll see my total
of my order, with shipping.
| | 04:12 | I have some shipping options here
that I can go ahead and put on there.
| | 04:15 | You'll notice that rush shipping and
standard shipping cost the same, so I'll go
| | 04:19 | ahead and select Rush Shipping.
| | 04:20 | Then I click Continue.
| | 04:23 | Now at this point, I have to select my
method of payment, which will be PayPal,
| | 04:28 | then I click Proceed to PayPal.
| | 04:30 | I'll go ahead and put my password in.
| | 04:31 | Then I click Login.
| | 04:38 | I'll review all the
information, and then I'll click Continue.
| | 04:42 | Then I'll click Place My Order.
| | 04:46 | Now the order has been placed.
| | 04:48 | You'll notice that Walmart really
wants me to register for their Web site.
| | 04:52 | I don't why; probably because they
want to send me marketing messages
| | 04:55 | throughout the year.
| | 04:56 | Buy.com, on the other hand, had
a very short checkout process.
| | 05:00 | I really prefer the checkout process
for the Buy.com site, but because I'm
| | 05:05 | a really loyal Walmart customer, I
continue to buy things on their Web site as well.
| | 05:10 | Some sites, like Walmart.com, offer
additional benefits for registered users, such
| | 05:15 | as the ability to rent movies, or
do other things with your login.
| | 05:18 | Many sites want customers to be
able to checkout quicker, and avoid the
| | 05:22 | additional registration, such as Buy.
com, and like me, you may find yourself
| | 05:27 | looking at those sites that are easier
to use, and faster to checkout on, because
| | 05:31 | it's more convenient, and
you get in and out quicker.

| Adding shipping addresses to your account| 00:00 | There will be times when you want to
ship something to a friend or a family
| | 00:04 | member, such as for a birthday, or perhaps
to your boss if it's Christmas time, and
| | 00:09 | maybe you're shopping for presents, and
you want to be able to add third party
| | 00:12 | addresses to your PayPal account, so
that you can use them when ordering online
| | 00:16 | through eBay and other
merchant e-commerce Web sites.
| | 00:20 | The process is very simple,
and I'll show you how it's done.
| | 00:23 | First, you need to be logged into
your PayPal account. Then click on the
| | 00:27 | Profile link over here.
| | 00:28 | Then you'll see a submenu, which allows
you to add or edit street addresses, and
| | 00:33 | you'll click that right there, and you'll
see a list of the street addresses that
| | 00:37 | are already associated with your PayPal account.
| | 00:39 | To add a new one, simply click Add.
| | 00:42 | Then go ahead and put that information in here.
| | 00:44 | Put your City, State, and ZIP in there.
| | 00:57 | If you've got a debit or a credit card
on file that you'd like to associate with
| | 01:01 | this address, in other words, when you
go to pay for something and ship it to
| | 01:05 | this address, it automatically
associates that card with this address,
| | 01:09 | you can click on this option
right here, then click Save.
| | 01:13 | Then you'll see the address has
been added here on the profile.
| | 01:17 | If you'd like to remove that
address, or edit it, you can click here.
| | 01:20 | You can click Edit to edit the address,
and make some minor change to it if you'd
| | 01:23 | like. And then click Save. Or, you
can remove the address altogether.
| | 01:34 | Now that you've got additional
shipping addresses, be sure to pay very close
| | 01:43 | attention to which one you'll be
using when you're ordering online.
| | 01:46 | Remember that a merchant is not
responsible for your error if you accidentally
| | 01:51 | choose the wrong address when you're
checking out and paying for an item.
| | 01:55 | This is a convenient way to organize
address information when sending to
| | 01:58 | third parties or alternate addresses,
especially when you're making purchases
| | 02:02 | for gifts.

| Making mass payments| 00:00 | If you've got a PayPal Premier or
Business account that's verified, you can
| | 00:05 | call PayPal and ask them to
enable a feature called Mass Payments.
| | 00:09 | Mass Payments allows you to upload a
tab delimited, or a comma separated values
| | 00:14 | file, and send multiple
payments at once to multiple people.
| | 00:18 | In order to learn how Mass Payments
works, how to prepare a file, and send it,
| | 00:22 | click on the Send Money tab.
| | 00:24 | First, you will have had to call
PayPal, and ask them to enable this feature,
| | 00:28 | then click on Make a Mass Payment.
| | 00:31 | You can also allow another user on your
account to do this, such as a bookkeeper,
| | 00:35 | if you have multi-user access setup.
| | 00:38 | Now, you can send up to 5,000
payments at once, and there's two ways to
| | 00:41 | submit your mass payment.
| | 00:43 | One; you can upload a file,
which I'm going to show you.
| | 00:45 | Two; if you have a programmer,
or you are a programmer yourself,
| | 00:49 | you can use the application programming
interface, which is available through PayPal.
| | 00:54 | I'm just going to show you a simple way to
create a text file, and upload it to the system.
| | 00:59 | To learn how make this files,
click on this link right here.
| | 01:03 | There is a guide here in PDF
format that you can click on to learn more
| | 01:06 | about mass payments.
| | 01:08 | Rather than reading through a 40 page manual,
| | 01:10 | let me show you a couple of
simple ways to make mass payments.
| | 01:15 | If you want to learn about the process
of making the file, you can go ahead and
| | 01:19 | create it using Notepad or Excel,
and I'll show you samples of both.
| | 01:23 | You have to have enough money in your
PayPal account to cover the cost of the
| | 01:26 | mass payments you will be sending, and
you can't use a debit or credit card, or a
| | 01:31 | checking account to fund those payments.
| | 01:33 | The money must already be in your account.
| | 01:36 | In the next section, it explains the
cost of sending mass payments.
| | 01:39 | For domestic and international,
it's 2% to send a mass payment.
| | 01:43 | For domestic, it's no more than $1.00
total cost, and for international
| | 01:47 | payments, it will vary
depending upon the currency.
| | 01:50 | Let's go back up and take a look
at how to create a payment file.
| | 01:54 | In this section, we can see the different
columns that you'll need to have in your file.
| | 01:58 | If you scroll through these
instructions, you'll see that you have different
| | 02:02 | columns for different
aspects of the mass payment,
| | 02:04 | the first being the e-mail address of
the person receiving the payment, then the
| | 02:08 | dollar amount of the payment,
and then the type of currency.
| | 02:11 | In this case, we will be using U.S. dollars.
| | 02:13 | You must hold that currency in order to send it.
| | 02:16 | In other words, if you have a U.S. dollar
balance, you'll have to use U.S. dollars
| | 02:20 | to send the mass payment.
| | 02:22 | In the fourth column, you have an optional
reference account number, or a reference
| | 02:26 | number that you can use to track your
payment, and in the last column, you have a
| | 02:30 | note that will be seen by the
person receiving that payment.
| | 02:33 | The last two columns are totally optional.
| | 02:35 | You don't have to use them.
| | 02:36 | Now, I'm going to go to the Desktop
here, and I'm going to open up my exercise
| | 02:40 | files to show you how the
mass payment file works.
| | 02:44 | I've created two mass payment examples.
| | 02:46 | One is using Excel.
| | 02:47 | Since Excel is a very popular program, a
lot of folks will be using that to make
| | 02:52 | their mass payment file.
| | 02:53 | You can create the columns here, and then
once you're done creating the file, you
| | 02:58 | can go ahead and click on this logo
here, and then Save As, and then change the
| | 03:03 | file type to Comma Separated Values.
| | 03:05 | You can also use Tab Delimited files.
| | 03:08 | Once that's done, I'm going to go
ahead and Save this mass payments file, and
| | 03:13 | then it will be ready to use.
| | 03:14 | When I close Excel, I'll see that there
is file here; a Comma Separated Values
| | 03:19 | file that can be used for mass payment.
| | 03:21 | Also here is an example of a
file that I created in Notepad.
| | 03:26 | In Notepad, I typed in the information, and
I used the Tab key to separate the fields.
| | 03:30 | You have to use a Tab in order to
separate the different fields when
| | 03:34 | you're using Notepad.
| | 03:35 | This is an easy way to make a file if you
don't have Excel installed on your computer.
| | 03:40 | Once you're done making the columns, and
you save the file, you can then upload
| | 03:43 | it into the PayPal system,
and send the mass payment.
| | 03:46 | We are going to go ahead and do that now.
| | 03:48 | In order to send the file, I'll need
to upload the file, which I'll do by
| | 03:51 | clicking here, and then I'll
go to my Desktop, then go into my
| | 03:56 | exercise files, and then select the file
that I'm going to use for mass payments,
| | 04:01 | and then click Open.
| | 04:02 | Then, in the next section, I need to
indicate to PayPal the method that I'll be
| | 04:06 | using for associating the
payment to the recipient,
| | 04:10 | which is either e-mail address, phone
number, or PayPal costumer ID, if you know it.
| | 04:14 | I'm going to use the easy way, which is
the e-mail address, and then I'm going to
| | 04:18 | put a subject line here.
| | 04:20 | Now, once you've done that, you can click the
Review option, and the file will be uploaded.
| | 04:25 | In the next screen, you'll see a list
of all the mass payments that are being
| | 04:28 | made to the individual e-mail addresses.
| | 04:30 | You'll see the total cost and fees
that are associated with the mass payment.
| | 04:35 | You have the option to make changes,
or go ahead and submit the payment.
| | 04:39 | Each of these recipients will receive
the amount you've indicated in your file.
| | 04:43 | I can't imagine every possible reason
you'd want to make a mass payment, but a
| | 04:47 | couple good examples might be making
commission payments to sales people, or
| | 04:51 | possibly paying vendors for invoices.
| | 04:53 | In both cases, the recipient
does have to have a PayPal account.
| | 04:57 | This is a convenient and fast way
to make multiple payments at once.

3. Selling and Getting PaidUsing the Request Money tab| 00:00 | When you'd like to get paid with PayPal,
you can ask someone to pay you through
| | 00:04 | the PayPal system by
clicking on the Request Money tab.
| | 00:07 | This works as a handy reminder to
the other person that you'd like to get
| | 00:11 | paid through PayPal.
| | 00:12 | I'll show you the simple
process of using this PayPal feature.
| | 00:16 | The first step is to click on
Request Money, right here at the top menu.
| | 00:20 | Bear in mind that the other person
doesn't need to have a PayPal account.
| | 00:23 | They'll just be notified that
you'd like to be paid through PayPal.
| | 00:26 | Go ahead and type in the
recipient's e-mail address.
| | 00:30 | Now, if you've sent a request to this
person before, they'll appear on this
| | 00:33 | dropdown menu, and you can
simply select their e-mail address.
| | 00:37 | Then go ahead and enter the dollar
amount that you'd like them to pay you, and
| | 00:41 | you can enter one of many different currencies.
| | 00:43 | In this case, I'm using U.S. Dollars, but
if you'd like to be paid in a different
| | 00:46 | currency, you can go ahead
and select it off the list.
| | 00:49 | Then indicate what type of payment
this is for, whether goods or services,
| | 00:55 | then click Continue.
| | 00:57 | Review the next screen, and if everything
looks good, click on the Request Money option.
| | 01:03 | Now, what happens next is an e-mail will
be sent to the other party, and they'll be
| | 01:07 | able to pay you through PayPal.
| | 01:09 | They'll be notified that you'd like to
get paid, and they'll go ahead and be able
| | 01:12 | to log in to their PayPal
account, and send the funds to you.
| | 01:15 | Now, you'll see this information in
the My Account tab, so if you click on My
| | 01:20 | Account, you'll see the payment
request has been sent, and you'll see what's
| | 01:24 | called a Bill To transaction.
| | 01:26 | If you want to cancel this transaction,
you can go ahead and do that by clicking
| | 01:30 | on the Cancel option in the submenu
here. Or, if you need to send a reminder
| | 01:35 | invoice, you can do that here.
| | 01:36 | The details of the transaction can always
be viewed by clicking this link right here.
| | 01:40 | I'm going to go ahead and click
Cancel Money Request, and you'll see this
| | 01:45 | Confirmation Screen right here.
| | 01:48 | If you check this box, then no
reminder e-mail will be sent to the other person
| | 01:51 | letting them know that you're canceling this.
| | 01:55 | Request Money is quite simple and easy.
| | 01:57 | Once the request is paid for by the
other person, you'll immediately see the
| | 02:01 | funds appear right in
your PayPal account balance.
| | 02:04 | So as long as they didn't pay you with
an electronic check, the funds will be
| | 02:08 | available for immediate use.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Using the Send Invoice option| 00:00 | If you are running a business, you can
create professional looking invoices with
| | 00:04 | your PayPal account that are
sure to impress your clients.
| | 00:08 | To start this process,
click on the Request Money tab.
| | 00:12 | Now, just like requesting money,
invoices are a request to a client to pay you,
| | 00:17 | but they are in a much more
professional looking format; something that a small
| | 00:20 | business would be likely to want to send out.
| | 00:22 | Before you can start sending invoices,
we will need to configure to your account
| | 00:26 | so that all the settings
are prepared and ready to go.
| | 00:30 | Let's click on the Invoice
Settings option right here in the submenu.
| | 00:33 | I'm going to walk you through each
of these sections one step at a time.
| | 00:37 | The first thing you want to do
is put in your business name.
| | 00:42 | Your name will automatically be
filled in from your account information, and
| | 00:45 | you can certainly change that here; this is
just for when you are sending out an invoice.
| | 00:50 | If you don't want your personal name on
here, you can go ahead and delete that
| | 00:53 | information, and then you can just have
your company name appear on the invoice.
| | 00:57 | I'm going to go ahead and put in some
additional information here, such as my
| | 01:01 | fax number. Then I'll put in my Web site, and
optionally, you can put in your tax ID number.
| | 01:09 | Some people use tax ID numbers on
their invoices, because a lot of companies
| | 01:13 | require them in order to pay you.
| | 01:16 | When you are done entering all this
information for the basic information
| | 01:20 | that's going to appear on your invoice,
click the Save option, and then it will
| | 01:23 | be saved into the browser.
| | 01:25 | The next item is the invoice logo.
| | 01:28 | You will want to put your best foot
forward, and image is very important.
| | 01:32 | What I want to do is show you how to
add a graphic to your invoice to make it
| | 01:36 | look that much more professional.
| | 01:38 | I've got one saved here on my
Desktop in my exercise files right here.
| | 01:43 | I'll go ahead and add this logo to my invoices.
| | 01:46 | Now, the logo must be no
bigger than 75 by 200 pixels.
| | 01:51 | Once you are done previewing the logo,
go ahead and click Agree and Save.
| | 01:55 | Now, there is also a different logo
that you can upload, which is the logo that
| | 02:00 | your costumer or client will see
when they receive an invoice from you.
| | 02:05 | That's the logo that will appear in
the e-mails that they receive when you
| | 02:09 | send out an invoice.
| | 02:10 | It needs to be a different logo
than the one that you just uploaded.
| | 02:14 | It actually can be 90 by up to 500
pixels wide, so it can be bigger.
| | 02:18 | I'm going to use the same logo since
this is a demonstration, and I'll just
| | 02:22 | show you how it works.
| | 02:24 | Now, this logo will appear in the
e-mails that I send out to clients; that's
| | 02:28 | the invoice e-mails.
| | 02:29 | Now I click Agree and Save.
| | 02:31 | In the next section, you
can set up tax information.
| | 02:34 | So, if you collect sales tax in
your jurisdiction -- like in the state of
| | 02:37 | California, I collect sales tax --
| | 02:39 | if you live in a state which also has a
sales tax, then you can put in the rates here.
| | 02:44 | If you collect different rates for
different states, or if you are a multi-state
| | 02:47 | seller, you can go ahead and enter
different rates into this matrix right here,
| | 02:52 | and you can enter up to a
total of ten different rates.
| | 02:55 | These are the taxes that will be
applied to the invoice when you sell a product
| | 02:59 | or a service that's taxable.
| | 03:01 | In the next section are items that we can
save ahead of time that we can apply to an invoice.
| | 03:05 | So for example, if you have products
or services that you charge for on a
| | 03:09 | regular basis, you can go
ahead and add them here.
| | 03:12 | I have a couple of different services
already added here, and I can modify them,
| | 03:17 | and I can edit them if I want to, or delete
them if I need to, and I can also add a new Item.
| | 03:21 | So if I want to add a new
service or product, I can do so here.
| | 03:28 | You can put in the unit price, and then
if it's taxable or not, and there you go.
| | 03:35 | It shows up right there on the list.
| | 03:37 | You can also set up templates in advance for
invoices that you send on a regular basis.
| | 03:41 | So I'm going to ahead and create a
template that I can use to send invoices, and
| | 03:47 | you will see here the basic
invoice information will then pop up.
| | 03:50 | We can adjust the terms.
| | 03:53 | You can also add the products
that you are going to be billing for.
| | 03:57 | In this case, I often offer computer
disk cleaning service, and quite frequently
| | 04:01 | I charge that, so I want to make a
template that allows me to quickly send an
| | 04:05 | invoice for the same
service over and over again.
| | 04:09 | If you want to, you can put some
additional terms and conditions here, and you
| | 04:14 | can put an optional note to your recipient.
| | 04:20 | Then you can add a memo,
which is only seen by you.
| | 04:23 | Once you are done, you can preview the
template, and you can see what it would
| | 04:27 | look like as if you are receiving this invoice.
| | 04:31 | Once you are done previewing it, you
can go ahead and save the template.
| | 04:36 | You will want to enter a simple name
for your template, so you can look it up
| | 04:39 | again later, and you can indicate
if this will be the default template.
| | 04:46 | There is also a handy address book
here, which allows you to store client
| | 04:49 | information, and also telephone
numbers, Web site addresses; all kinds of
| | 04:54 | information about the clients
you will be sending invoices to.
| | 04:57 | I've already got one in here, and
I'll show you how to add a new one.
| | 05:00 | First, you click on Add New Contact.
| | 05:03 | Then you fill in all the
information on this form.
| | 05:08 | If the billing address is the same as
the shipping address, you can leave that
| | 05:11 | checked, and you can put
additional information here.
| | 05:15 | Often times people put the tax ID
number in there, because for whatever reason
| | 05:18 | you might need to do some reporting when you
are sending out 1099s, and things of that nature.
| | 05:24 | You can put an optional memo here
if you want to, and then click Save.
| | 05:27 | We are going to go back to the Invoice
Settings, and I think we've set everything
| | 05:32 | up now, and now that we are completely
done organizing all the settings, this is
| | 05:36 | a one time thing that we
will not have to do again.
| | 05:39 | We can go ahead and create our first invoice.
| | 05:43 | Now, I see here that my logo now shows up.
| | 05:45 | My Invoice number is now 1.
| | 05:47 | If I want to change that, I certainly
can, and I can change just about anything
| | 05:51 | related to this invoice at this point.
| | 05:52 | If I had multiple templates, I could
pull one down from here, and change the
| | 05:56 | template at any time.
| | 05:58 | Scroll down to the next section, and
we will go ahead and take a look in our
| | 06:02 | address book, and send an invoice
to somebody in the address book.
| | 06:06 | So I'll select the person I
want to use to add to the invoice.
| | 06:11 | Once I do that, they will
appear right here in the invoice.
| | 06:13 | Let's scroll down to the next section.
| | 06:16 | You can see that because I'm using a
template, automatically the computer disk
| | 06:20 | cleaning service has been added in.
| | 06:22 | I can add additional rows as well, and
put more information into these rows.
| | 06:27 | So if I wanted to bill for multiple
services, I click in the check box here,
| | 06:31 | and let's say I added a computer cable to the
order, or I added some additional consulting.
| | 06:36 | I can go ahead and put that in there.
| | 06:38 | I put two hours of consulting here, and
I put one computer cable, and I can go
| | 06:42 | ahead and review my invoice; preview it.
| | 06:46 | Make sure it looks exactly the way I
want it to -- looks very professional -- and
| | 06:51 | then I can send it, edit it, or print it.
| | 06:54 | If I want to take a copy of this
invoice and put it in my file, I can click the
| | 06:58 | Print option, and you will see here a
preview of that print will show up.
| | 07:02 | I can go ahead and print it right now.
| | 07:04 | I'm going to go ahead and close this
tab for the Print Preview, and then I'm
| | 07:08 | going to go ahead and send the invoice.
| | 07:10 | Now, once an invoice has been sent, you
will be sent directly to this filtering
| | 07:16 | system that allows you to manage
the invoices that you've sent out.
| | 07:19 | You can see the activity of invoices that
have been sent, unpaid, paid, and past due.
| | 07:26 | Now, this Invoice tool is very powerful,
and allows you to send nice, clean, and
| | 07:30 | professional looking invoices to clients.
| | 07:32 | It rounds out the entire
PayPal business experience.
| | 07:35 | You will be able to see the status of
these invoices at any time, and you will
| | 07:39 | know whether they have been paid or
not, and you can quickly send reminders to
| | 07:42 | clients who haven't paid.

| Requesting money with Outlook| 00:00 | If Outlook is your daily dashboard for
managing e-mail, and other activities, you
| | 00:05 | can download and install the
Payment Request Wizard for PayPal.
| | 00:09 | You can do that by going to paypal.com/outlook.
| | 00:13 | Now, the Payment Request Wizard works
with Microsoft Outlook, or Outlook Express.
| | 00:18 | You can download the file over here.
| | 00:21 | I'm going to go ahead and download the
Microsoft Outlook file, and since I don't
| | 00:25 | need to necessarily save it to my
computer, I'll just Open and run the file
| | 00:28 | directly from the Internet.
| | 00:30 | Go ahead and accept this warning, and
allow this to be installed, and just follow
| | 00:36 | the instructions on your
screen for installing it.
| | 00:42 | When you're done, click Finish.
| | 00:45 | Now I'm going to go ahead and open Outlook.
| | 00:46 | Now, depending on your version of
Outlook, you'll usually see this option up
| | 00:52 | here called Add-Ins.
| | 00:54 | You'll now see the Payment Request
Wizard appears here in the Add-Ins, and you
| | 00:58 | can see the submenus offer
different types of payment requests.
| | 01:02 | You can see Basic, Product, Service,
eBay Auction, or Donation Request templates.
| | 01:08 | I'm going to walk you through each of
them, and show you what they look like.
| | 01:12 | In the Basic Request, you'll be able
to put in your PayPal e-mail address, so
| | 01:16 | you'll get paid to the correct account.
| | 01:18 | There's an Amount section for the
amount you'll be requesting, an e-mail Subject
| | 01:22 | that's already filled in, and
optionally you can change it, and a note section
| | 01:26 | for a message that you can send
to the recipient of your request.
| | 01:30 | Now, if you look at the Product request,
it's slightly different in that it
| | 01:34 | provides a template that also has the
same information, but you can also request
| | 01:39 | the shipping address for the person
that you're sending the product to, and you
| | 01:43 | can put product details in as well,
plus shipping and handling information.
| | 01:47 | For a Service Request template, you'll
have the same information as you do for
| | 01:51 | Basic Requests, however, you can put a
description of the service that you're
| | 01:55 | offering, and the amount of the request.
| | 01:58 | The only difference for an eBay Auction
Request is that you have a space to put
| | 02:02 | in the eBay item number.
| | 02:05 | If you run a charity, you can also put
in a Donation Request as well, so the
| | 02:09 | person will receive a template that
says that you're asking for a donation.
| | 02:13 | Now, for each of the request types, you
can also indicate what currency you're
| | 02:17 | requesting, and you can
change the currency type here.
| | 02:20 | There is many different currency
types available through PayPal, and we'll be
| | 02:24 | using U.S. Dollars for our sample request.
| | 02:27 | I'm going to go ahead and go back to a
Basic request, and I'll be sending out a
| | 02:30 | request right now, just to show you how it works.
| | 02:32 | The first thing you want to do is
put in your PayPal e-mail address.
| | 02:36 | This ensures that the money goes to the
correct PayPal account, and that you'll
| | 02:40 | actually receive the funds.
| | 02:42 | The next box is the amount you'll
be requesting, and you can change the
| | 02:46 | subject line if you wish.
| | 02:49 | Then you can put in a little
note here. Then click Next.
| | 02:54 | Now you can choose the type of button
that will appear in the body of the e-mail.
| | 02:58 | Since this was a loan, I'm going to
use the Pay Now button, and I'll show the
| | 03:02 | logos for the different types of
credit cards that PayPal offers.
| | 03:06 | You also have the option to just
provide a button with no credit card logos, or
| | 03:10 | if you're selling a product,
you can use a Buy Now button.
| | 03:13 | If you'd rather not use a graphic at all,
you can just click on the Link Text right here.
| | 03:18 | I'm going to click Next, and then I
can preview the information, then I'll go
| | 03:23 | ahead and click Create.
| | 03:24 | What will happen is that the wizard
will go ahead and create an e-mail template
| | 03:29 | that will be sent to the other person.
| | 03:31 | So I'll go ahead and put
their e-mail address in here.
| | 03:35 | I'll preview the whole e-mail to
make sure everything looks correct.
| | 03:38 | This is exactly what it will look like
when they receive it, and then I'll click Send.
| | 03:43 | The Outlook Payment Request Wizard
will make sending a money request very
| | 03:47 | quick and easy, and it avoids the need
to jump over to PayPal, and login to
| | 03:52 | complete the request.
| | 03:54 | The person from whom you're requesting
payment will see a money request in their
| | 03:57 | e-mail, and they'll be able to click
the link and pay you very quickly.

| Requesting money with QuickBooks| 00:00 | PayPal offers a handy Payment
Request Wizard toolbar that will integrate
| | 00:04 | with QuickBooks 2002 versions and
above for both the Pro and Premier
| | 00:10 | versions of QuickBooks.
| | 00:12 | Creating a QuickBooks file is outside
the scope of this particular training,
| | 00:16 | however, you can always check out
QuickBooks Pro 2010 Essential Training here in
| | 00:21 | the lynda.com Online Training Library.
| | 00:23 | I'm going to walk you through the process
of installing and using the QuickBooks tool.
| | 00:28 | These various wizards can be found at
the Merchant Services tab, and if you
| | 00:32 | scroll down the page, you'll find that a
few of these links are right here on the
| | 00:36 | Manage Payments section.
| | 00:38 | I'm going to click on the one for
QuickBooks, then I'm going to download
| | 00:42 | and install the file.
| | 00:44 | Go ahead and accept this warning, and
allow this to be installed, and just follow
| | 00:49 | the instructions on your
screen for installing it.
| | 00:54 | The wizard has finished installing,
and I can go ahead and close out these
| | 01:00 | windows, and then I can go into QuickBooks.
| | 01:02 | Now, at the top right of the interface,
you'll see that there's a PayPal logo.
| | 01:08 | We'll need to open Outlook before we
can start sending these reminder invoices,
| | 01:13 | so I'm going to go ahead and
open up my Outlook program.
| | 01:16 | Now, if you have a different mail client
installed, QuickBooks will automatically
| | 01:20 | use that mail client to send the invoices.
| | 01:23 | So, you don't have to have Outlook
as long as you have a mail client
| | 01:25 | installed on your computer.
| | 01:27 | Now that I have my e-mail opened, and I
have QuickBooks opened, it's important
| | 01:31 | that you have an invoice that's
already created in the system.
| | 01:34 | So, I'm going to just show you really
quickly that there is an invoice in the
| | 01:37 | system that we can use to remind
somebody that they owe us money.
| | 01:41 | This is a sample invoice, and I made
this sample invoice to show you that the
| | 01:45 | PayPal interface will integrate with
this invoice and send a reminder to the
| | 01:50 | company that they have to pay for this invoice.
| | 01:52 | It's invoice number one.
| | 01:53 | If I click on the PayPal logo, I
can then go ahead and put in the
| | 01:58 | invoice number; click Next.
| | 02:01 | Now you have the option to use a Pay
Now button with credit card information, or
| | 02:06 | a Pay Now button without.
| | 02:08 | What this does is it tells someone who
does not already have a PayPal account
| | 02:12 | that you do accept major credit
cards with your PayPal account.
| | 02:15 | Even if they don't have a PayPal account,
they can enter their credit card, and
| | 02:18 | pay you for this invoice.
| | 02:19 | Then you will want to enter in your
PayPal e-mail, and the type of currency, and
| | 02:26 | then click Next, and you can change
the e-mail template if you would like.
| | 02:29 | You can go ahead and preview the
information here, and then click on the Create button.
| | 02:36 | Now an e-mail will be generated;
you'll see it popping up over here.
| | 02:39 | I'll go over to the e-mail, and you'll
see a copy of the invoice has been created
| | 02:44 | inside of my e-mail client,
and it shows up right here.
| | 02:47 | There's a handy Pay Now button within
the invoice, and a copy of this invoice can
| | 02:51 | be sent to my customer.
| | 02:53 | So I'll go ahead and type in the
customer's information here, put in their e-mail
| | 02:57 | address, and then click Send.
| | 03:00 | Now, what's happened is a copy of this
invoice, and a PayPal payment link, has
| | 03:04 | been sent to the customer.
| | 03:06 | Using the PayPal QuickBooks integration
tool and Payment Wizard will help speed
| | 03:10 | up the process of requesting money.
| | 03:12 | Your customers and clients will
appreciate the faster, easier way to pay you
| | 03:16 | than having to write a
check and drop it in the mail.

| Selling on eBay and other sites| 00:00 | I'd like to walk you through some
basics about using PayPal with eBay, and other
| | 00:04 | Web sites that you may wish to set up for
selling merchandise or services online.
| | 00:09 | Let's discuss the concepts in
general here about all this works.
| | 00:14 | First, I want to show you an eBay
listing page, and when you're listing an item
| | 00:17 | on eBay, to add PayPal as a method of
payment, you simply have to go into the
| | 00:22 | Sell Your Item form on eBay, and add
the e-mail address that's associated with
| | 00:26 | your PayPal account.
| | 00:28 | Now, if you have your own Web site, you
can go ahead and add buttons to that
| | 00:32 | Web site to allow people to click the
button, and quickly purchase the product
| | 00:36 | that you're selling.
| | 00:37 | This is a very simple button that you
can create directly on your PayPal account.
| | 00:42 | It then allows the person who is
buying that product to go in and sign in to
| | 00:46 | their PayPal, and quickly pay for the item.
| | 00:49 | You can generate the code for this by
going to the PayPal Web site, and provide
| | 00:54 | the code to the programmer who sets up
your Web pages, or you can put it directly
| | 00:58 | into the Web site yourself
if you're familiar with HTML.
| | 01:01 | It does not require extensive
programming knowledge, because it is simple HTML,
| | 01:06 | and you can just drop and copy
it directly into your Web page.
| | 01:10 | As you can see in this code example, this is
a view of the back end code for this Web page.
| | 01:15 | It's a simple matter of copying,
pasting the code directly into the section on
| | 01:20 | the Web page where you want it to appear.
| | 01:22 | These buttons are then saved into
your PayPal account for later reuse.
| | 01:27 | Now, if you login to PayPal, and you
want to learn more about the options that
| | 01:30 | are available for you for selling on
your Web site, you will want to start at the
| | 01:34 | Merchant Services tab.
| | 01:35 | There is a lot of links here, and it can get a
little overwhelming if you're new to PayPal.
| | 01:40 | Here, you can learn about the different
resources, and on the left-hand side menu,
| | 01:44 | you'll see merchant services that are
available for you, and then if you scroll
| | 01:48 | through, you'll see hotlinks that
allow you to go in and explore different
| | 01:51 | aspects of PayPal's merchant offerings.
| | 01:55 | Now, I am going to take you through a
couple of comparisons on some of the
| | 01:58 | services that are offered, and the
first one is Website Payments and
| | 02:01 | Website Payments Pro.
| | 02:03 | Website Payments Standard is just a name
for the services that are automatically
| | 02:07 | enabled when you register for PayPal.
| | 02:09 | And when you have a PayPal Premier
Account, or a Business account, you can accept
| | 02:13 | credit cards online automatically.
| | 02:15 | You can also accept PayPal payments, too.
| | 02:18 | With Websites Payment Pro you'll be
able to process credit card payments
| | 02:21 | directly on your Web site, and the
user will never go to the PayPal site.
| | 02:26 | So it's seamless, and it appears as
though credit card processing is taking place
| | 02:30 | directly on your Web site.
| | 02:32 | If you want to learn more about these
services, you can go through and look at
| | 02:34 | the comparison online, and it will
explain to you what the benefits of each
| | 02:38 | service are, and when you
should probably use them.
| | 02:41 | Website Payments Pro has some
sophisticated customized risk filters that also
| | 02:46 | help you to avoid chargebacks.
| | 02:48 | If you look at the next section here, you'll
see a thing called Payflow Payment Gateway.
| | 02:52 | If you're a merchant with an existing
relationship with a bank for internet
| | 02:56 | credit card processing, you can
integrate that credit card processing directly
| | 03:01 | with PayPal, and you can use the
service called the Payflow Payment Gateway.
| | 03:05 | That's a little different, because
it's a hybrid where you're using an
| | 03:08 | older system, something that you've already
established, along with the PayPal services.
| | 03:13 | If you look at the next tab here,
you'll see that PayPal offers a service
| | 03:17 | called Express Checkout.
| | 03:18 | Express Checkout is very similar to
the regular checkout, except that you
| | 03:22 | don't have to enter as much
information to go through the process of
| | 03:25 | purchasing an item.
| | 03:27 | This is a great compliment to any
existing Web site where you're offering another
| | 03:31 | payment method, such as direct credit
card, but you also want to give your
| | 03:34 | customer a chance to use
PayPal in a quick and easy fashion.
| | 03:39 | Express Checkout is much faster than
just simply having to type in a bunch of
| | 03:43 | credit card information, and it's
proven to boost sales by up to 18% by adding
| | 03:47 | PayPal as a method of payment to your Web page.
| | 03:50 | Now, this is a really, really handy
service; let me explain this service.
| | 03:54 | This is one of my favorite services
that PayPal offers for merchants. It's
| | 03:58 | called Virtual Terminal.
| | 03:59 | I used to have a very expensive monthly
service charge with a bank where they
| | 04:04 | would process credit cards for me,
and I've been able to eliminate that by
| | 04:07 | having a virtual terminal.
| | 04:08 | There's no machine; there's no
equipment. You can quickly and easily process
| | 04:13 | payments by phone, fax, or mail, or you
can have people come into your store, and
| | 04:17 | you can process credit
card payments that way too.
| | 04:20 | Virtual Terminal is just what it
sounds like: it's a virtual credit card
| | 04:24 | terminal that you can use, and if you
want to use the optional credit card
| | 04:28 | swiper, it plugs directly into your
computer's USB port, and you can order one to
| | 04:33 | be used with this Virtual Terminal service.
| | 04:36 | So this is a great way to take phone
orders especially, and it speeds up the
| | 04:39 | process, because there's no paper,
there's no forms, and the fraud protection that
| | 04:44 | you get with Virtual
Terminal is absolutely superior.
| | 04:47 | I've been using Virtual Terminal for about two
years now, and I'm very happy with this service.
| | 04:52 | The next thing I want to show
you is the Partner Directory.
| | 04:55 | If you are interested in using a third
party cart, like a shopping cart service,
| | 04:59 | there are free carts
available in the Partner Directory.
| | 05:03 | So if you want to learn more about
these, you can go to the PayPal site, and
| | 05:07 | explore the Partner Directory.
| | 05:09 | Here's an example of a totally 100% free
shopping cart that you can add to your own Web site.
| | 05:16 | You can click here and learn more
about these services, and by offering one of
| | 05:19 | these carts, you can make your Web site a
lot more professional looking, and make
| | 05:24 | it easier for customers to buy,
and checkout, and purchase products.
| | 05:27 | Now, I'm just covering basic
concepts here about how all this works.
| | 05:31 | To dive a lot deeper into the more
complex aspects of PayPal Integration, if
| | 05:36 | you're not a programmer, you might want
to find someone who's already well-versed
| | 05:40 | in the area of PayPal
Integration for your Web site.
| | 05:43 | If you're pretty good with HTML, you
can easily add buttons to your site, and
| | 05:47 | start accepting payments quickly and
easily, and eventually graduate up into a
| | 05:51 | more sophisticated shopping cart system.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating payment buttons| 00:00 | The Merchant Services tab is a great
place to start learning about how to use
| | 00:04 | PayPal for your business, and you can
easily generate simple HTML buttons that
| | 00:09 | allow you to sell products on your Web site.
| | 00:12 | These can be added to any
Web page quickly and easily.
| | 00:15 | You'll see right here at the top
section that there are quick and easy links
| | 00:19 | that take you to these buttons.
| | 00:21 | So what I'll do is I'm going to create
a button for you, and I have a Web page
| | 00:24 | that I'd like to put a button
on, so that I can sell a product.
| | 00:27 | First of all, let me show you
exactly what that Web page looks like.
| | 00:31 | I have this page, which is also saved
in your exercise files, for an actual
| | 00:36 | sample product page.
| | 00:37 | Now, this is a very elementary,
simple page, but the purpose of this
| | 00:41 | demonstration is to show you how
straightforward it is to add a payment option.
| | 00:46 | I'd like to sell this purple plush
gorilla monkey, and actually allow people to
| | 00:50 | pay for it with PayPal.
| | 00:52 | At the moment, all I have is a
simple Web page, and a photograph.
| | 00:55 | So what I'll do is I'll go back over to
PayPal, and I will create a button for this.
| | 01:00 | So I'm going to click on make a Buy Now button.
| | 01:03 | I want to explain a few
things to you about buttons.
| | 01:06 | The Add Cart, and Donation, and Purchase buttons
are all pretty much created in a similar fashion.
| | 01:12 | You'll go through the same steps
and processes in order to make them.
| | 01:16 | Some of the buttons have a little more
power to them than others, such as the Add
| | 01:20 | Cart button, which allows you to put an
Add Cart option on your Web page, and
| | 01:25 | allow multiple items to be purchased at once.
| | 01:27 | A Buy Now button, which is what we're
about to create, is for a single payment
| | 01:31 | option on a Web page, whereas the Add
Cart button is for people who want to sell
| | 01:36 | multiple items off of the same Web site.
| | 01:38 | So right now let's just start with this
basic button, and we'll go through the
| | 01:41 | steps in making one.
| | 01:43 | So the first step is to select the type
of button, which we've discussed just a
| | 01:47 | moment ago, and you have
various options, which you see here.
| | 01:50 | I'm going to go ahead and type in a short
name, which is just a descriptive for what it is.
| | 01:58 | And optionally, you can use an ID number.
| | 02:00 | That's if you have an inventory control
number, like XYZ, or something like that.
| | 02:05 | Then put the price in.
| | 02:08 | Then you can add some additional customization.
| | 02:10 | You can add a dropdown menu with price options.
| | 02:12 | So if you have different sizes of
monkeys, and you want to sell them at different
| | 02:17 | prices, you can do that.
| | 02:18 | You can add additional dropdown menus as well.
| | 02:21 | If you want to add some additional dropdown
menus, you can see some examples
| | 02:24 | of what they look like, such as small, medium,
or large, and those will be available as well.
| | 02:30 | You can add a text field to the option as well.
| | 02:33 | So if you're wanting to add a text
field for something like engraving, or
| | 02:37 | personalization, or maybe even a
gift card, you can certainly do that.
| | 02:41 | We're just going to keep it pretty
simple at this point, and we're not really
| | 02:44 | going to make too many changes, but
you have the ability to customize the
| | 02:48 | appearance of the button.
| | 02:49 | So if you want to use a smaller
button, you can make it tinier.
| | 02:52 | If you want to display credit card
logos, which I definitely want to do, you
| | 02:56 | can do that as well.
| | 02:58 | You can change what the text
will say; either Pay Now, or Buy Now.
| | 03:01 | You can also do something really clever,
which is you can upload your own button image.
| | 03:06 | So if you want to use your own colored button,
or your own graphic, you can do that as well.
| | 03:11 | Then, you can specify a shipping amount.
| | 03:13 | So in addition to the cost of the item, you
can indicate how much it costs for shipping.
| | 03:17 | So I can put that here as well.
| | 03:19 | And the tax rates, so if there's
sales tax, you can put that in there.
| | 03:23 | You have additional features here,
which you can explore later, and learn more
| | 03:26 | about them, but I'm going to go to
Step 2, and we're going to take a look at
| | 03:29 | what's involved in Step 2.
| | 03:32 | If you want to track inventory, and
make sure that you don't oversell an item,
| | 03:35 | you can do that. And if you want to
track your cost on an item, and keep track of
| | 03:39 | the profits and losses you're
making, you can do that as well.
| | 03:43 | Let's scroll to the next section,
which is Advanced Features, and we'll read
| | 03:47 | through those as well.
| | 03:48 | So, if you're an advanced user, you
might want to allow people to do a few
| | 03:52 | other things with the buttons, such as
change the order quantities, which I
| | 03:55 | definitely want to do.
| | 03:57 | You can add options such as special messaging.
| | 04:00 | So if you want your customers to be
able to add some special instructions, like
| | 04:04 | gift wrapping, maybe
personalization, you can do that here.
| | 04:08 | You definitely need an address to ship
the item, but if you were selling digital
| | 04:12 | goods, like through an e-mail, you
wouldn't need that, so you could turn that off.
| | 04:16 | In this next section, you can take
customers to a custom URL or Web page
| | 04:21 | whenever they decide to cancel their checkout.
| | 04:23 | So you might want to encourage them to
change their mind, or something like that.
| | 04:27 | When someone's finished with checkout, then
you can go ahead and take them to a success page.
| | 04:31 | So if you've made a custom Web
page for something that says, hey!
| | 04:35 | Thank you very much for placing this order.
| | 04:38 | We really appreciate it.
| | 04:39 | Consider buying some of our other items.
And you can take them to a page like that.
| | 04:43 | There are some other features here,
which we won't cover in this lesson.
| | 04:46 | These are things that you can learn on
your own if you want to dive deeper, but
| | 04:50 | basically, that's it for
creating a basic button.
| | 04:53 | Once you've done that, you have two choices.
| | 04:55 | If you're going to sell the product
through e-mail, like if you want to e-mail
| | 04:58 | somebody an invoice and say, hey!
| | 04:59 | Would you like to buy this item?
| | 05:01 | You can send them a URL.
| | 05:03 | Now, this is pretty handy, because if
you wanted to just shoot someone an
| | 05:05 | e-mail and say, hey!
| | 05:06 | Buy this now, here's a link; you can do that.
| | 05:09 | We're going to embed this code into our Web site.
| | 05:12 | So what I'll do is I'm going to go
ahead and copy the code, and I'll go ahead
| | 05:16 | and copy it, and put it into my Web page.
| | 05:19 | Now, I'm going to flip back over to Dreamweaver.
| | 05:21 | Now as a reminder, Dreamweaver is not the
only tool you can use to make Web pages.
| | 05:26 | In fact, there's tons of different
ways to make Web sites and Web pages.
| | 05:30 | So you basically just need to
understand the basics of HTML.
| | 05:34 | So I'm going to flip over to the code
view so you can see what it looks like, and
| | 05:38 | this is what the actual code looks like
in the page, and I'm going to go ahead,
| | 05:42 | and paste that button into the table
data section, which is right here, and I'll
| | 05:47 | go ahead and show it to you.
| | 05:49 | So you can now see that I've pasted
the code directly from PayPal right into
| | 05:53 | this Web page, and it will
appear as a payment button.
| | 05:57 | Now, I'll flip back over to design and
make sure it looks good, which it does.
| | 06:01 | And I'll save the page, and
now I can take a look at it.
| | 06:05 | Now, I have gone ahead and saved this
page into my exercise folder here on the
| | 06:09 | computer, and you can see this sample
button page that I've created. There you go!
| | 06:14 | You have a handy button there, and
a Web page that shows you that you
| | 06:17 | can purchase the item.
| | 06:18 | You can now upload this page directly
to your Web server, and people can start
| | 06:22 | seeing it online, and making purchases.
| | 06:25 | Once they click the Buy Now button,
they'll be transported magically over to
| | 06:29 | the PayPal site where they can then
sign in, and pay for it, and purchase this
| | 06:33 | plush gorilla doll.
| | 06:34 | For the average business person, this is how
you'll be making use of PayPal on your Web site.
| | 06:39 | The discussion about using shopping
cart systems, and the PayPal API, is a more
| | 06:43 | complicated one that's
beyond this essential training.
| | 06:46 | These tools will get you started
quickly and painlessly with adding PayPal
| | 06:50 | buttons on your Web site.

| Using PayPal for nonprofits| 00:00 | If you're involved with a nonprofit
organization, and would like to help your
| | 00:04 | charity receive donations through
PayPal, I'll show you a few well hidden
| | 00:09 | secrets about how to get discounts and
benefits from an in-the-know, behind the
| | 00:14 | scenes look at PayPal for charity.
| | 00:17 | First, click on Merchant Services.
| | 00:20 | Then over here, you'll see a link
that says Choose a payment solution
| | 00:23 | that's right for you.
| | 00:25 | And as you scroll down, you'll see a
section about Nonprofits under Industry
| | 00:28 | solutions, right here.
| | 00:31 | Now, you could take a few minutes to
read over this, and understand how the
| | 00:35 | Donate buttons work.
| | 00:36 | Just as we created a regular
Purchase button on PayPal, you can also
| | 00:41 | create Donation buttons.
| | 00:43 | It's the same process, and I'll
walk you through that in a minute.
| | 00:46 | There's well over a hundred thousand
charities using PayPal right now to receive donations.
| | 00:51 | You can learn more about taking your
nonprofit online here with the resources
| | 00:54 | on the Web, and you can download a guide for
nonprofits, which is right here on the PayPal site.
| | 01:00 | It's a handy guide, and you can scroll
through it, and read all about PayPal
| | 01:04 | suggestions about how to
get started with your charity.
| | 01:08 | Now, let's take a look at
how to make a Donation button.
| | 01:10 | I want to go ahead and show
you the process step by step.
| | 01:13 | So I'm going to go up and take a
peek at how to make a Donation button.
| | 01:17 | I'm going to go back to Merchant
Services, and I'm going to go ahead and create a
| | 01:22 | Donate button right here.
| | 01:25 | So let's go through the process.
| | 01:27 | The first one is the organization name
or service, and in this case, we're going
| | 01:31 | to type in a company name.
| | 01:33 | That's your foundation name, and
optionally, you can put in a donation ID number,
| | 01:40 | like general, which just means general donation.
| | 01:44 | You can customize the appearance of
the Donate button, but we'll keep it very
| | 01:47 | simple, and just show you a standard
Donation button. Then we can go ahead and
| | 01:52 | click the next section. We can save
the button at PayPal, which is very handy,
| | 01:56 | because if I decide to reuse this
button at a later time, I can do that.
| | 02:01 | Then we have some customization
options, such as adding a special message.
| | 02:05 | We don't need an address; we don't
want to overload people with too many
| | 02:08 | questions, so what I'm going to do is
I'm not going to ask them for an address.
| | 02:12 | Now, you can additionally send them over to
a page that thanks them for their donation.
| | 02:16 | I'd recommend that you definitely do
that, because you want to encourage them on
| | 02:20 | actionable next steps, like not only do
you want to thank them, but you want to
| | 02:23 | encourage them to perhaps add their name
and address to a Web form, or ask them
| | 02:28 | to volunteer, or whatever other
information you can put on a Web page. You can
| | 02:33 | immediately shoot them over to that Web
page after they've finished making the
| | 02:37 | donation through PayPal.
| | 02:39 | Once you've clicked Create Button, the
code will appear, and you'll be able to
| | 02:43 | embed that button directly into
your foundation or charity's Web site.
| | 02:47 | The button will look just like
the one you see on the screen here.
| | 02:50 | It's very simple to create these buttons,
and you can do them quickly and easily.
| | 02:55 | If you're requesting a donation in an
e-mail, you can click here, and you can go
| | 02:59 | ahead and copy and paste this
code directly into an e-mail.
| | 03:02 | When somebody uses the code, and puts
it into an e-mail, and then sends it out,
| | 03:07 | you'll be able to go ahead and link
to that, and it'll quickly show a form
| | 03:12 | for making a donation.
| | 03:13 | So you can see here, this is exactly
what the user will see when they click
| | 03:16 | the link in an e-mail.
| | 03:18 | So I want to show you a couple of more things.
| | 03:19 | Let's talk about embedding that
Donate button on another Web page.
| | 03:22 | So here's an example of One Square Inch,
which is a charity that uses the Donate
| | 03:27 | button, and you can see the
button that they have created.
| | 03:30 | It's very, very simple.
| | 03:31 | You just click the button, and
you can quickly make a donation.
| | 03:34 | So here's an example, in context, of
how the Donate option is used on an
| | 03:38 | actual charity Web site.
| | 03:40 | Some charities like to put links in
their Web pages, and I'll take you over to
| | 03:44 | the Hollywood High School Alumni
Association, and their Web site allows you to
| | 03:48 | click on a link in the text that
takes you to a form to make a donation.
| | 03:53 | So here, instead of using a button,
they used just a simple link, and you click
| | 03:58 | that link, and you can immediately
make a donation to the organization.
| | 04:02 | So this is all very, very simple.
| | 04:04 | If you want to, you can also send
donation invoices to your supporters.
| | 04:08 | Let's go through one more process, here, of
understanding a little bit more about the rates.
| | 04:12 | So there are discounted rates for nonprofits.
| | 04:15 | Back on the Merchant Services tab,
let's go ahead and take a look at the
| | 04:18 | information about nonprofits one more time.
| | 04:20 | Let's understand a little
bit more about the process.
| | 04:24 | As a nonprofit organization, you are
entitled to reduced fees with PayPal.
| | 04:29 | Be sure that you immediately take
advantage of these reduced costs.
| | 04:33 | It'll be less expensive for your
organization to use PayPal, provided that you go
| | 04:38 | ahead and notify PayPal that
you're a nonprofit organization.
| | 04:42 | In order to take advantage of these
lower rates, you'll need a letter from the
| | 04:45 | IRS stating your tax exempt status, and
you'll need a bank statement or a voided
| | 04:50 | check in your nonprofit organization's
name, plus the e-mail address for your
| | 04:54 | PayPal account, and you'll need to send
that to compliance@paypal.com to request
| | 04:59 | these discounted rates
that are available to you.
| | 05:02 | The Payment buttons are very easy to
make, and you'll be receiving lots of
| | 05:05 | donations in no time at all.

4. Managing Your AccountAdding funds from a bank account| 00:00 | Until someone actually sends you a
payment through PayPal, your balance will be 0.
| | 00:05 | You are allowed to write virtual
checks by paying for them with PayPal using
| | 00:09 | your checking account,
| | 00:10 | but unless you prefund money into your
balance, there is going to be a short
| | 00:14 | delay while PayPal processes
your request for an eCheck.
| | 00:18 | If you are anxious to receive what
you are ordering, you'll want to use the
| | 00:21 | option to transfer funds into
your account first in advance,
| | 00:25 | so they will be standing by for
you when you want to buy something.
| | 00:28 | To do this, click on the Add Funds option,
and click Add Funds from Bank Account.
| | 00:33 | This is a very simple process.
| | 00:35 | You select the bank account you wish to
fund from, and you put in the amount you
| | 00:39 | want to fund into your PayPal account here,
then you click Continue, and then you click Submit.
| | 00:45 | You'll need to wait for the ACH
transfer to occur from your bank to PayPal, and
| | 00:49 | in my personal experience, it takes
less time than they quote on the Web site;
| | 00:53 | usually 24 to 48 hours,
and I'm golden.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Withdrawing funds to your bank account| 00:00 | When you're selling goods or services,
and then receive that money in PayPal,
| | 00:04 | you'll eventually want to move some or
all of those funds to your bank account.
| | 00:08 | First of all, you'll need to
have funds showing in your balance.
| | 00:11 | The account you wish to transfer to
must also be added, and then confirmed, and
| | 00:16 | associated with PayPal.
| | 00:18 | To do this, you can go ahead and
click on the Withdraw option, and select
| | 00:23 | Transfer to Bank Account.
| | 00:25 | Now, in this little interface,
you'll see a couple of links here.
| | 00:28 | First of all, you'll see your current
balance, and then you'll see a box to fill
| | 00:32 | in the amount that you'll be
withdrawing. and then if you have multiple bank
| | 00:35 | accounts, you'll need to be
sure to select the correct one.
| | 00:38 | You'll notice that I have a $500 limit,
because I'm new to PayPal, in terms of
| | 00:43 | withdrawing funds out of my PayPal account.
| | 00:45 | Now, this can be very
limiting for a high volume merchant.
| | 00:48 | So let's be sure we understand why
that's there, and how to remove it.
| | 00:52 | In order to remove this limit, you'll need to
add a Social Security Number to your account.
| | 00:56 | You'll also need to link and
confirm your debit, or credit card.
| | 01:00 | So I'm going to go ahead and go back to
Withdraw, and then Transfer to my Bank Account.
| | 01:03 | I'm going to fill in the dollar amount
that I'm going to transfer; all $16.92.
| | 01:07 | It will be going to my Chase
account, and then I'll click on Continue.
| | 01:13 | The next screen will ask me to confirm.
| | 01:15 | If I want to make an edit, I can do that now.
| | 01:17 | I will go ahead and click on the
Submit button, and the transfer will begin.
| | 01:21 | It will take a day or
two for the funds to clear.
| | 01:24 | That's in practice.
| | 01:25 | I usually find that if I initiate a
transfer during the day, it will go through
| | 01:29 | the next business day.
| | 01:30 | PayPal says it could take three or four
days, which is a bit longer, but generally
| | 01:34 | it goes much faster than the
estimate that they give you.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Requesting a check| 00:00 | For some people, a check is desired.
| | 00:02 | Either you don't want to associate a
specific bank account with PayPal, or you
| | 00:06 | just need a paper check.
| | 00:08 | In that case, you can request that
one be mailed to you from PayPal.
| | 00:12 | So let's go ahead and go through that
process by clicking on the Withdraw option,
| | 00:16 | and click Request a Check.
| | 00:20 | Here, you will be able to enter the amount
of the check that you would like to request.
| | 00:23 | Since there is going to be a fee, I
don't want to take out the entire balance.
| | 00:26 | What I will do is I will take out $70,
and the check will be payable to myself,
| | 00:30 | and then there is the
address that it will go to.
| | 00:33 | Now, I'm going to go ahead and
| | 00:36 | There will be a $1.50 deducted
from the payment that's sent to me,
| | 00:40 | so I'll get $68.50.
| | 00:43 | This is for processing and
mailing the check to you.
| | 00:45 | After all, postage is pretty expensive
nowadays, and PayPal has to cover the
| | 00:49 | time and the cost of producing an envelope,
and printing a check, and sending it you.
| | 00:54 | Allow a reasonable amount of time for
printing and mailing, and be sure that the
| | 00:58 | address that you have on file is
accurate, and double-check it before you send
| | 01:02 | the check to yourself, because you don't
want it to end up in limbo, and then you
| | 01:05 | will have to contact PayPal to stop
payment on it and request a new one.
| | 01:10 | Once you complete the request, the
check will be mailed to you, and as the adage
| | 01:14 | goes, the check will be in the mail.

| Adding funds from MoneyPak| 00:00 | MoneyPak is a convenient way to fund a
PayPal account, and you can buy a MoneyPak
| | 00:05 | at thousands of retail stores.
| | 00:07 | It's essentially a code that you'll be
buying, and it comes on a card, and then
| | 00:11 | you can load it into your account at PayPal.
| | 00:14 | MoneyPak is ideal for anyone who
doesn't already have a bank account, or a
| | 00:18 | credit or a debit card.
| | 00:20 | Additionally, MoneyPak can be used to
give someone a gift of virtual PayPal
| | 00:24 | cash for any occasion.
| | 00:26 | There's a fee for using MoneyPak
when you purchase one at a store.
| | 00:29 | It's a $4.95 fee, plus the cost of
the actual funds you'll be loading.
| | 00:35 | These are available in stores all over
the United States, and you can find out
| | 00:38 | which stores are near you by
using the MoneyPak Web site.
| | 00:43 | You can load between $20 and $500 for
immediate use at participating partner
| | 00:48 | stores, and you can find out which
stores have MoneyPaks by going to the
| | 00:53 | Web site www.moneypak.com.
| | 00:57 | Now, we'll take a quick look at the
MoneyPak Web site, and I'll show you how to
| | 01:00 | find a store near you.
| | 01:02 | So here's the MoneyPak Web site.
| | 01:04 | If you want to find a store near you, you can
simply click here, and type in the zip code.
| | 01:09 | Then you click Go.
| | 01:12 | Now, I used the store locator to find
a store near me, and I went ahead and
| | 01:15 | purchased the MoneyPak.
| | 01:16 | So I have the code right now, and I'm
going to go ahead and fund this MoneyPak
| | 01:20 | onto my PayPal account by going to
the PayPal account, and logging in, and
| | 01:24 | clicking on the add funds
link: Add Funds from MoneyPak.
| | 01:29 | Now, I'm asked to put in the
code that appears on the MoneyPak.
| | 01:32 | So I'm going to scroll down.
| | 01:33 | I'm going to go ahead and
type in the MoneyPak Number.
| | 01:36 | That's the number that came on the
back of the card that I purchased.
| | 01:39 | I'm going to enter the
captcha code that's right here.
| | 01:43 | Then, I'll click Continue.
| | 01:45 | Now, the MoneyPak tells me that I can
go ahead and add the $20 that I purchased
| | 01:50 | earlier today, and I'll go
ahead and click Fund the Account.
| | 01:53 | I have a choice though.
| | 01:54 | I can take some of the funds that are
available on this MoneyPak, and leave some
| | 01:58 | on the card for other purposes, or for use later.
| | 02:01 | I'm going to use the entire $20
that's available, and surprisingly, I just
| | 02:06 | purchased this card not more than
20 minutes ago at a retail store,
| | 02:11 | and the funds were available
immediately.
| | 02:13 | I'll then click Fund Account.
| | 02:16 | Now, I get a confirmation number, and I
can return to my PayPal account, and see
| | 02:20 | what the balance is.
| | 02:22 | You can see now that the MoneyPak has
been added to my account, and the balance
| | 02:26 | has increased by $20.
| | 02:28 | Just as you would with a bank account, you'll
be able to quickly add funds using MoneyPak.
| | 02:33 | Of course, you have to pay the $4.95
fee charged by MoneyPak every time you
| | 02:38 | purchase one of the cards to load it.
| | 02:40 | If you don't have a bank account, or if
you're in a heated rush to put money on
| | 02:44 | your PayPal balance, this is really
the solution you can use right away.

| Using a PayPal debit card at an ATM or using the MasterCard feature| 00:00 | If you'd like a handy and convenient
way to get money out of your PayPal
| | 00:04 | account, you can ask PayPal
for a PayPal Debit MasterCard.
| | 00:09 | In order to obtain a PayPal Debit MasterCard,
you need to meet a few of the requirements.
| | 00:15 | You'll first need to have a Premier or
a Business Account, and you have to be
| | 00:18 | U.S. customer of PayPal.
| | 00:20 | You have to have been a member for at
least 2 months; you can't do it if you've
| | 00:23 | just registered. They need to know
that you've been around a little while, and
| | 00:27 | that they see some activity on your account.
| | 00:29 | You'll also need to have a confirmed
address, and the quickest way to do that is
| | 00:33 | to link a credit card to your account
which has a monthly bank statement sent to
| | 00:38 | a physical address, and not a P.O. Box.
| | 00:41 | You'll also need to provide the last 4
digits of your Social Security Number, and
| | 00:44 | in some cases, the entire Social,
depending on the type of relationship you have
| | 00:49 | with PayPal, plus your date of birth.
| | 00:52 | Then you also need to be a member in
good standing, so you can't have any
| | 00:55 | violations, or concerns, or open
issues with PayPal at the time that you're
| | 00:59 | registering for a debit card.
| | 01:02 | Let's go through the actual
process, now, of requesting a debit card.
| | 01:06 | I have an account which has been on
PayPal for at least 60 days, and I'll go over
| | 01:10 | the submenu option, which is PayPal
Debit MasterCard; it's very easy to find.
| | 01:16 | Then I'll go ahead and put in my date
of birth, and then I'll put in my Social.
| | 01:21 | Then over here, I'll Change the
address, because I want the card to go to a
| | 01:24 | different address than what's on there.
| | 01:26 | I have two confirmed billing addresses
on my account, and I'll select the first
| | 01:30 | one, and then if I need to, I
can change the phone number.
| | 01:35 | Now, I'll flip down, and I'll
click on the Continue option.
| | 01:39 | I'll go ahead and read over the
PayPal Debit MasterCard Agreement. If you
| | 01:42 | want to read it, you can click here, and take
a look at it, then click Agree and Continue.
| | 01:48 | They're processing my request.
| | 01:50 | At this point, once I'm approved, I'll go
ahead and receive a debit card in the mail.
| | 01:55 | You can use this card just as you would
any other debit card, and the funds will
| | 01:59 | be taken from your available PayPal balance.
| | 02:01 | You can add an additional backup
payment method, such as a credit card, which can
| | 02:06 | be used if your balance falls below zero.
| | 02:09 | You may use your new PayPal Debit
MasterCard anytime you shop online, or even at
| | 02:13 | ATM machines, which is really convenient.
PayPal may charge you a little bit
| | 02:18 | of a service charge for taking
cash advances on your debit card,
| | 02:22 | but if you use the debit card feature
when making a purchase, and requesting cash
| | 02:26 | back, you'll be fine, and you won't be
charged any additional fees, other than
| | 02:30 | what the merchant might charge you.
| | 02:33 | Your daily spending or withdrawal
limit is something you can also discuss with
| | 02:36 | PayPal customer support directly.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding email addresses and phone numbers| 00:00 | You may wish to receive money through
various e-mail addresses, and you can add
| | 00:04 | additional e-mail addresses
to your account at any time.
| | 00:07 | You can also add additional phone
numbers to your account, which will help
| | 00:10 | PayPal reach you in the event that
they have something important to discuss
| | 00:14 | with you, such as in the very rare
instance where there might be unusual
| | 00:18 | activity on your account.
| | 00:20 | In order to do these things, you can go
ahead and click the on Profile option and
| | 00:24 | then you can add or edit an e-mail address.
| | 00:26 | Let's go ahead and do that.
| | 00:28 | I am going to go ahead and click on
the Add button right here, and then I will
| | 00:33 | add the e-mail address.
| | 00:34 | Now, it says I can add seven more, so I
am going to click Save, and then the new
| | 00:42 | e-mail address will appear here.
| | 00:44 | A confirmation e-mail has been sent to
that address, and then I'll need to confirm
| | 00:48 | that e-mail address before I can start using it.
| | 00:51 | Once you receive the e-mail from PayPal,
you'll need to open it up, and you'll want to
| | 00:56 | go ahead and take a look at it.
| | 00:57 | Read through the e-mail, and then make sure
you go ahead and confirm your e-mail address.
| | 01:01 | You will need to enter your PayPal
password at this point to make sure that you
| | 01:05 | really are who you say you are.
| | 01:08 | Now that e-mail address has been
confirmed. If we go back to the original window,
| | 01:13 | and we take a look again at Add or
Edit Emails, you'll see the two e-mail
| | 01:17 | addresses there, and both of them
have been confirmed at this point.
| | 01:21 | To add additional phone numbers, go to
your Profile, and then go ahead and click
| | 01:25 | on add additional phone number here:
Add or Edit Phone Numbers, and then you'll
| | 01:29 | see your primary phone number there.
| | 01:31 | Then you can click Add, and you can go
ahead and select the type of phone number,
| | 01:35 | and then put it in here.
| | 01:38 | Optionally, you can add an extension number.
| | 01:43 | You can add more phone numbers if you wish, but
this gives you the basic idea of how to do it.
| | 01:47 | It's important to note that PayPal is
constantly monitoring your account, and in
| | 01:52 | the event that there's anything at all
suspicious going on with your account, or
| | 01:56 | any unusual activity, they will use
these telephone numbers to reach out to you,
| | 01:59 | so make sure you keep them up to date.
| | 02:02 | Now that you've added an additional
e-mail address, you can receive funds through
| | 02:05 | any of your e-mail addresses that
are registered to your account.
| | 02:09 | If you're like me, and you have many
e-mail accounts, you may find it very helpful
| | 02:13 | to go ahead and register all of them now.
| | 02:16 | Having a mobile number is helpful, not
only with being alerted about potential
| | 02:19 | fraud on your account, which is
critical when something might go awry, but also
| | 02:24 | helpful when using PayPal's mobile
features, which will only be enabled if you
| | 02:28 | have a mobile number
associated with your account.

| Managing your account notification preferences| 00:00 | I am now receiving well over
200 e-mails each and every day.
| | 00:06 | If you are like me, you would like to
cut out the e-mails you really don't want
| | 00:10 | to read, and continue to receive the very
critical e-mails that you would like to read right away.
| | 00:15 | PayPal allows you totally
control this within your profile.
| | 00:19 | Let's click on the Profile link, and
then go to More Options here at bottom.
| | 00:23 | Once you are in the More Options, you
will see a section called My Settings.
| | 00:26 | Since I recently visited it, it's the
one that automatically came up by default,
| | 00:31 | so you would have to click on it if
you were going there for the first time.
| | 00:34 | If you have a mobile phone, you can set
up push notifications, which means that
| | 00:38 | you will receive text messages about
your PayPal activity. Which I have to
| | 00:41 | caution you, I have tried, and it tends
to get a little bit disruptive since I
| | 00:45 | get so many payments through PayPal.
| | 00:48 | But what you can do is adjust
the e-mails that you receive.
| | 00:51 | So let's click under Update
Notifications, and go through them one at a time
| | 00:55 | and talk about them.
| | 00:57 | I do like the idea of receiving news,
but receiving news about PayPal isn't
| | 01:01 | necessarily something that I
really need, so I don't wish to receive
| | 01:05 | newsletters and updates on their
services. I can go to the Web site and learn
| | 01:08 | more about them myself.
| | 01:09 | I definitely don't want to receive
solicitations from third parties, so I will
| | 01:14 | opt out of partner marketing.
| | 01:16 | I am not a developer; I do hire
developers, but I am not actually a programmer,
| | 01:21 | so I don't really wish to receive
any marketing about developer programs.
| | 01:25 | And you can see here that policy
updates is not optional; you have to receive
| | 01:30 | them. PayPal requires it as a matter of policy.
| | 01:33 | Over here, you want to be notified
whenever you receive money, and therefore
| | 01:37 | PayPal does not make that optional
either; you can't turn it off.
| | 01:40 | Anytime you have requested money with
PayPal, you can also receive an e-mail, and I
| | 01:44 | don't really need that.
| | 01:45 | If send someone a money request, I know I
did it, and I don't need to be reminded.
| | 01:50 | Then, anytime you receive a PayPal
Web site payment, you can be notified as well.
| | 01:54 | And clearly, that's another thing that
PayPal feels is not optional, so they don't
| | 01:58 | let you turn it off.
| | 02:00 | If you use plain text e-mail readers,
you can go ahead and turn this to Plain
| | 02:04 | Text if you'd like, but since I generally
read my e-mail on a Smartphone, I want to
| | 02:08 | see them in HTML, so I'll leave it there.
| | 02:11 | And then customer surveys; I honestly
and truthfully find surveys to be an
| | 02:15 | important part of life, especially for
some businesses, but I really get so many
| | 02:20 | of them, I don't have time to review them
anymore, so I am going to turn that off that as well.
| | 02:24 | Any sort of changes that will occur
to your account, you would be notified
| | 02:27 | about as well here.
| | 02:28 | And in the last section, you will see
an option turn off intuitive ad choices.
| | 02:33 | Now, I don't really know why this is an
option at all, because it make sense to
| | 02:37 | me that if I can't turn off ads, which is
what it says here, I guess I would want
| | 02:41 | to see ads that are tailored
to me, so I will leave that on.
| | 02:44 | I also do not want to share my
information with any other companies, so I am going
| | 02:48 | to turn this off right now, and then click Save.
| | 02:51 | Once I have made these changes, and by
tweaking the Notification Preferences,
| | 02:56 | now you can receive only the
critical e-mails from PayPal that are going to
| | 03:00 | matter most to you.
| | 03:01 | For smaller users, you can turn
everything on, because you are not going to get
| | 03:05 | that much e-mail anyways.
| | 03:07 | When you get big, and you are handling a
large volume of payments, you may prefer
| | 03:10 | to turn off a lot of these features so
that you can focus only on the things
| | 03:14 | that matter to you, and not get too
distracted by a flurry of e-mails.

5. Using PayPal MobileGetting started with PayPal Mobile| 00:00 | PayPal offers a strong array of services
for mobile phone and mobile device users.
| | 00:05 | Mobile devices are growing in popularity
at a tremendous pace, and you can easily
| | 00:10 | use PayPal with your device
to send and receive payments.
| | 00:13 | You can use PayPal in a mobile
browser by pointing it to m.paypal.com.
| | 00:20 | From there you can send money, you
can link a card, like a debit or credit
| | 00:24 | card, you can shop on eBay, or you can
set a PIN number that you will use to
| | 00:29 | secure transactions.
| | 00:30 | You can also link a mobile number that
you can use for texting transactions to
| | 00:35 | the PayPal network, or using your mobile app.
| | 00:38 | Additionally, you can click on this
button right here, and go ahead and download
| | 00:41 | the PayPal Application for your device.
| | 00:44 | I am going to login now, and show you how to
link your mobile number to this application.
| | 00:52 | Let's go through the process of
adding a mobile number to our account.
| | 00:55 | So first of all, we need to click on
the link that says Link a mobile number.
| | 01:00 | I can choose a mobile number that's already
linked to this account, or I can add a new one.
| | 01:04 | I am going to go ahead and add a new one.
| | 01:07 | Now a text message will be sent to my
mobile device, and I will need to confirm
| | 01:10 | that number that's sent to me.
| | 01:12 | Once I have received the confirmation
code, I will enter it into this browser, and
| | 01:16 | then I will click Continue.
| | 01:18 | Now, each time I use the mobile
app, I'll need to use a PIN number.
| | 01:22 | So I am going to go ahead
and create a PIN number now.
| | 01:25 | Once I have created the PIN, I am
ready to use not only the mobile browser
| | 01:29 | with my mobile phone for text
messaging and things like that, but I can also
| | 01:33 | use the mobile application.
| | 01:34 | You can learn more about the mobile
options at the regular PayPal Web site, or on
| | 01:39 | the mobile browser here, and there
are applications that are available for
| | 01:42 | download for iPhone, Android, and
Blackberry devices by visiting the application
| | 01:47 | store or marketplace for your particular device.
| | 01:51 | If you prefer, you can also use SMS to
check your balance, send and receive money,
| | 01:56 | and manage your account with
simple text message commands.
| | 02:00 | To find these commands, visit your
PayPal Profile online, and then click on the
| | 02:04 | Add/Edit Phone Numbers option, and then
click on the link that indicates that
| | 02:08 | there is a text messaging option available.
| | 02:11 | Now, once you download the PayPal app,
you will sign in, and then you can look
| | 02:14 | around and see the
various features offered by it.
| | 02:17 | To configure the settings for your
mobile app, click the Gear icon on the upper
| | 02:20 | left-hand side, then click Settings.
| | 02:23 | Bump allows you to literally bump hands
with another PayPal application user, and
| | 02:27 | send a predetermined amount
of money quickly and easily.
| | 02:31 | You can turn the Bump feature On or Off.
| | 02:33 | Click Profile, and use the Fundraiser
application option to raise money for
| | 02:39 | causes that matter to you.
| | 02:41 | You can also set your Login Duration
period from 2 minutes to 72 hours, that way
| | 02:46 | you are not constantly having
to login over and over again.
| | 02:50 | Optionally, you can set up your own
small business to indicate that you accept
| | 02:53 | PayPal, and you can be included in the
handy app directory that lets customers
| | 02:58 | quickly locate you by clicking on
the PayPal local option within Setup.
| | 03:04 | You can also configure Push
Notifications, which I don't necessarily recommend
| | 03:08 | for high volume sellers, because you
might go crazy with all the flood of
| | 03:12 | notifications coming in
through your PayPal account.
| | 03:14 | But you can turn on and off
specific types of notices;
| | 03:19 | this basically means you will receive a
Push Notification to your phone when the
| | 03:22 | app is not presently running on
the telephone or mobile device.
| | 03:27 | Now let's go back and look at a few more things.
| | 03:29 | Here in the Help Center, you can find all
sorts of handy information about how to
| | 03:33 | use your mobile application.
| | 03:36 | You can take a look at your account
history by clicking the History button, and
| | 03:39 | you can see all of the
transaction history on your account.
| | 03:43 | You can see payments you have sent,
and filter them, or received payments, and
| | 03:47 | filter those, or you can take a
look at requested payments as well.
| | 03:52 | When you are using your mobile
application, you will always see your PayPal
| | 03:55 | balance there at the top of the app, and
then you will be able to see quickly and
| | 03:58 | easily how much money you have in your account.
| | 04:01 | With PayPal mobile applications, you
will have the ability to process the same
| | 04:05 | types of transactions with PayPal mobile
as you would with the classic site, with
| | 04:09 | a few special enhancements.
| | 04:10 | You can electronically capture a paper
check, and then place those funds into
| | 04:14 | your PayPal balance, which is a pretty cool
additional feature offered through the PayPal apps.
| | 04:19 | I will walk you through some of these
handy features in the rest of this course.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Sending and receiving money through the PayPal app| 00:01 | I'll walk you through sending and
receiving payments through the PayPal
| | 00:04 | mobile application.
| | 00:05 | It's pretty
straightforward, so let's get started.
| | 00:08 | First of all, I'll send some money to
a friend of mine, and then I'll need to
| | 00:11 | pull up the application, and
then click the Send Money button.
| | 00:15 | Then you'll see the interface here
where you can use either an e-mail address,
| | 00:18 | or a mobile number.
| | 00:19 | Now, that mobile number needs to be
associated with your friend's PayPal account,
| | 00:23 | otherwise, they won't receive the funds.
| | 00:26 | If I want to send some money to
someone who's in my address book, I'll click
| | 00:29 | this icon right here, and then I
select someone from my address book.
| | 00:33 | You can also use this handy
feature which is called Bump to connect.
| | 00:37 | Bump to connect means that you can bump
another mobile device that uses the same
| | 00:41 | application, and the funds will be
quickly transferred using the Bump feature.
| | 00:47 | Now, I've entered the e-mail address of
the person receiving the money, and I went
| | 00:51 | ahead and put in the dollar amount,
plus, you can select the currency type.
| | 00:54 | So, if the person you're sending money
to is overseas, maybe you'll be sending
| | 00:58 | it in a different currency.
| | 01:00 | I'm using U.S. dollars.
| | 01:02 | Then, you can review the transaction.
| | 01:04 | You can enter an optional
note. Then click Send.
| | 01:11 | It's really that simple.
| | 01:12 | Now the money has been sent to my friend.
| | 01:14 | You'll now automatically be taken to
the History link, which will show you the
| | 01:18 | history of the
transaction that you just completed.
| | 01:20 | I'm going to go back to the Home
screen, and show you how to request a payment,
| | 01:25 | which is just as easy.
| | 01:26 | I click in this box right here.
| | 01:28 | I'll fill in the e-mail address.
| | 01:31 | I put in the dollar amount for the request.
| | 01:34 | Then I click Review.
| | 01:36 | I can put in an optional
note. Then I click Done.
| | 01:41 | Then I click the Request button, and the
money request will be sent to my friend.
| | 01:46 | I'll automatically be taken back
to the History link, and I can see
| | 01:49 | that transaction there.
| | 01:51 | I've found that Bump is a pretty great
feature to use, and particularly handy when
| | 01:55 | using my mobile device.
| | 01:56 | I'd like to caution you that when
you're using mobile apps that you carefully
| | 01:59 | review dollar amounts, and the
person you're sending the money to.
| | 02:03 | When you're dealing with financial
matters of sending or receiving funds,
| | 02:06 | you will want to make sure that you
take your time, and check the e-mail or
| | 02:09 | phone number, and make sure that the
exact dollar amount is the amount you
| | 02:12 | want to send.

| Working with others using the app| 00:00 | The mobile application for PayPal has
a handy tool to help you split a dinner
| | 00:05 | check with one or more people.
| | 00:06 | The assumption here is that you'll be
the person paying for the check, and your
| | 00:10 | guest or guests will be
reimbursing you through their PayPal account.
| | 00:14 | There's also times when you want to
be able to collect money from multiple
| | 00:17 | people at the same time, and I'll show
you how to accomplish both of these tasks.
| | 00:21 | First of all, you need to click Split Bill.
| | 00:25 | Here in the interface, go ahead and
enter the amount of the actual dinner check.
| | 00:31 | Then enter the tip amount.
| | 00:33 | If you're a generous tipper, you might want
to tip more than the 15%; that's the default.
| | 00:38 | Then indicate how many people were at dinner.
| | 00:41 | Two means you, plus one other person.
| | 00:44 | You can also optionally
enter more people if you want to.
| | 00:48 | Then go ahead and click Request money.
| | 00:52 | The PayPal app will go ahead and
calculate how much each person owes.
| | 00:56 | Then click the button that says Add
Request, or click right here, and you can add
| | 01:00 | people from your address book.
| | 01:03 | You can see here that I've added one
person, and it shows the amount that they owe me.
| | 01:08 | Now I can click Review.
| | 01:10 | I can enter an optional message
here as well. Then click Done.
| | 01:17 | Now at this point, when I click the
Request option, a money request will be sent
| | 01:21 | for exactly half of the money
for the dinner. Then click Done.
| | 01:25 | Now you'll automatically be taken
to the History link, and you'll see the
| | 01:28 | request right there.
| | 01:30 | To request money from several people at
the same time, but you also need to do so
| | 01:34 | for reasons other than a dinner or
lunch check, such as sharing a grocery bill
| | 01:38 | with your roommates, you can also use
the Collect Money feature on the app.
| | 01:42 | Simply click Collect Money.
| | 01:44 | You'll see a similar interface as the
one before, and in this time you can go
| | 01:47 | ahead and enter in the dollar amount.
| | 01:50 | Then you can enter an optional note.
| | 01:55 | Then you click here to add the contributors.
| | 01:57 | You can indicate how many
people will be paying you.
| | 02:00 | Then you'll say here how much per
contributor, and then you can click Next.
| | 02:06 | You'll see yourself at the very top,
and then you can assign people to the
| | 02:09 | other contribution boxes.
| | 02:11 | I'm going to use my address book,
but you could just as easily enter
| | 02:15 | information directly, such as a
mobile number, or an e-mail address that's
| | 02:18 | associated with the PayPal account.
| | 02:21 | If you enter an e-mail address that's
not already associated with a PayPal
| | 02:24 | account, the other person will be
notified that they can sign up for PayPal.
| | 02:28 | You can use these handy sliders to
adjust the amounts if you want to.
| | 02:33 | If you change your mind, you can
click Reset, and it goes back to an equal
| | 02:37 | share for each person.
| | 02:38 | Then you click Review.
| | 02:40 | Go ahead and review the screen, and
then click the Request money option.
| | 02:44 | Money requests will be sent
automatically to both people, and you'll see the
| | 02:48 | History link show up again.
| | 02:50 | These handy tools allow you to settle up
what's owed to you from family, friends,
| | 02:53 | and business colleagues.
| | 02:55 | The uses are absolutely endless, and
you'll find these features quite helpful
| | 02:59 | once you start using them.

| Finding businesses that accept PayPal| 00:01 | There are a lot of PayPal friendly
businesses near you, and the mobile
| | 00:04 | application for PayPal
makes it easy to find them.
| | 00:07 | The nice thing about mobile devices
is the handy built in geolocation that
| | 00:12 | pinpoints your position on the planet,
and helps you find these local companies.
| | 00:17 | These days we take geolocation for
granted, since almost every Smartphone has it
| | 00:21 | built in, but in years past, this
was a big expensive deal, and only big
| | 00:26 | companies in the military could afford it.
| | 00:28 | Now you'll be on your way to
convenient PayPal shopping with your PayPal
| | 00:32 | mobile application.
| | 00:34 | First of all, you need to be signed into
your application, and then click on the
| | 00:37 | Local option right here.
| | 00:40 | Then you'll automatically see a
list of businesses in the local area.
| | 00:44 | You can scroll through and see which
companies accept PayPal as a method of payment.
| | 00:48 | I noticed some familiar
companies on the list right here.
| | 00:52 | Now at this point, if you'd like, you
can go ahead and select the Filter option
| | 00:55 | here, and you can filter
businesses that are within 1 to 30 miles.
| | 01:01 | You can also filter to show only
businesses that are open at this time.
| | 01:06 | Something to consider, and this is
pretty important: just because a business is
| | 01:10 | registered for the Local feature on PayPal
does not necessarily mean this is a physical store.
| | 01:16 | Some registered stores are only online,
and it's a good idea to call them on the
| | 01:20 | phone before you drive on over.
| | 01:22 | So, when you're desperate for that
late night fix of delicious vanilla ice
| | 01:26 | cream, but you can't find your wallet,
it's time to pull out your mobile device,
| | 01:30 | and go hunting for a market that takes PayPal.

| Depositing checks with PayPal Mobile| 00:00 | PayPal Mobile has a pretty super
feature that lets you process a check
| | 00:04 | electronically, and fund
it to your PayPal balance.
| | 00:08 | Let's go ahead and see how this works.
| | 00:10 | First of all, you'll need to press this
option right here: you see this button?
| | 00:14 | And you'll see a little menu pop up
that allows you to do a few things.
| | 00:18 | Now, if you wanted to just transfer
money back and forth between a bank account,
| | 00:22 | you can do that right here, and select
this option, and go ahead and fill in the
| | 00:25 | amount that you'd like to transfer.
| | 00:27 | However, what I want to show
you is unique to the PayPal app.
| | 00:31 | We're going to add money from an actual
paper check, which is really super handy.
| | 00:35 | Click over here, and click Add a Check.
| | 00:38 | Then what you'll do is you'll use your
camera phone to go ahead and process the check.
| | 00:43 | So let me go ahead and do that.
| | 00:44 | I'm going to take a picture of
the front of the check first.
| | 00:48 | Now I'm going to take a picture of
the back of the check, and you should sign
| | 00:51 | the back of your check, or
mark it For Deposit Only.
| | 00:54 | Then I'm going to click Use.
| | 00:57 | Now I'll go ahead and enter the amount
of the check, and then click Process Check.
| | 01:02 | It reminds me that my check is being
processed, and it could take up to 6 business days.
| | 01:07 | Then I'll click OK, and
that's all there is to it.
| | 01:11 | Within a few days, the funds from this
check will be processed electronically,
| | 01:15 | and then placed into my PayPal account.
| | 01:18 | It's very handy, and you can bypass
having to first deposit this check to your
| | 01:22 | bank, and then transfer the funds over.
| | 01:24 | It cuts out one step in the process.

6. Using PayPal ShippingSetting up your shipping information| 00:00 | PayPal offers a fantastic shipping service.
| | 00:03 | After you receive a payment, you can
use PayPal shipping to create prepaid
| | 00:07 | shipping labels, pay for insurance,
create packing slips, also create customs
| | 00:12 | forms, and even create
multiple shipping labels at once.
| | 00:16 | Now, let's talk a little bit about
eBay, because eBay is super popular, and
| | 00:21 | PayPal is often used with eBay, it's
important to note that eBay has an easy way
| | 00:26 | to print a label without going to PayPal.
| | 00:28 | It's called the Print Shipping Label option.
| | 00:30 | So if you click on the Print Shipping
Label option from any eBay page on a
| | 00:35 | completed successful listing -- of
course you have to be logged in -- you'll go
| | 00:39 | ahead and see a dialogue that will allow
you to go ahead and print a shipping label.
| | 00:44 | Here's an example of a Print
Shipping Label option on eBay.
| | 00:47 | Now, when you use this option, you
will not have to go directly to PayPal to
| | 00:51 | ship this item out.
| | 00:52 | You'll be using eBay's built in
shipping interface, and then the fees will be
| | 00:57 | billed to your PayPal account separately.
| | 00:59 | However, if you receive a payment on
your PayPal account, and you'd like to go
| | 01:03 | ahead and ship that item out,
| | 01:05 | there is a Shipping Label option that
you'll see right there, if you look on the
| | 01:09 | very first transaction. You can go ahead a
click that option, and make a shipping label.
| | 01:13 | Before you can start shipping, we
need to go through and set up some
| | 01:16 | preferences for our profile to make
sure that the shipping is enabled properly,
| | 01:21 | and that we can ship both United
Parcel Service, which is UPS, and the United
| | 01:24 | States Postal Service.
| | 01:25 | We'll go ahead and click on the
Profile, and go down to More Options, and let's
| | 01:31 | walk through this step by step.
| | 01:33 | Then we'll go to My
selling tools here at the bottom.
| | 01:37 | Then here at the bottom of this
section, let's go and click on the Shipping
| | 01:42 | preferences, and go ahead and click Update.
| | 01:44 | Once you're inside of the PayPal
shipping information profile, you'll want to be
| | 01:48 | able to set this up.
| | 01:49 | So, we'll be talking a little bit more
about these settings, but let's first go
| | 01:53 | ahead and set up a UPS account.
| | 01:55 | Now what does that mean?
| | 01:56 | If you already have a pre-existing UPS
account, and you get special discounts
| | 02:01 | with that UPS account, you can go ahead
and add an existing UPS account right now.
| | 02:06 | If you need to add a new
account, you can also do that here too.
| | 02:10 | So if you're somebody who's never
used UPS before, you'll need a UPS account
| | 02:14 | number to ship through PayPal.
| | 02:16 | It's very quick and easy to get one, so
let's go ahead and click on this link right here.
| | 02:21 | In the next section, you have the
option to put in an existing account number,
| | 02:24 | which you can put in the first section
right here. Or, if you do not already have
| | 02:28 | one, you can register for one right now.
| | 02:35 | Then I'll scroll down, and fill in the
rest of the information. Then, in the next
| | 02:42 | section, I'll indicate approximately how
many packages I expect to ship each week
| | 02:46 | for the different types of shipping
packages, like ground, air, or international.
| | 02:51 | In the next section, I can indicate if I
ship hazardous materials, high value, or
| | 02:55 | breakable goods, or if I act as a
shipping authorized outlet; you know, one of
| | 02:59 | those drop off outlets, like the UPS store.
| | 03:02 | I don't do any of those things, so
I'll go ahead and click Continue, and
| | 03:07 | then I'll go ahead and click Continue again
to confirm that I want my UPS account number.
| | 03:11 | Now I need to go through and read the
agreement. You can print this if you want
| | 03:15 | to, and if you're done, you can
go ahead and click on I Agree.
| | 03:18 | This is the agreement with UPS and you.
| | 03:21 | Once you've set up all this
information, you'll now have your very own UPS
| | 03:25 | account number, and if you take a look
there, you'll see that the UPS account
| | 03:29 | number has been assigned to this PayPal profile.
| | 03:31 | This also can be used to
ship UPS parcels anywhere.
| | 03:35 | You can go ahead and use that UPS
account number that you've received to ship a
| | 03:39 | package on UPS.com as well.
| | 03:41 | It's not strictly for use on PayPal.
| | 03:43 | If you have any questions, call 1-800
-PICK-UPS, and they can assist you.
| | 03:47 | Let's go to the next sections. You
want to indicate if you have a preferred
| | 03:51 | shipping carrier, and since I use the
United States Postal Service the most, I'm
| | 03:55 | going to go ahead and save
that as my preferred carrier.
| | 03:59 | Also, if you expect to offer returns
to your buyers, and you want to make it
| | 04:03 | easy for them to return a parcel, you
can set up a prepaid return option for
| | 04:07 | them, and if they decide to use it,
you'll be charged for the shipping charges
| | 04:11 | to your PayPal account.
| | 04:12 | I do offer returns, and I'm going to go
ahead and save that as one of the options
| | 04:16 | for my PayPal profile.
| | 04:18 | Let's look at the last item here,
which is the Display Ship Button.
| | 04:22 | When you receive different kinds of
payments, you can offer a button on your
| | 04:25 | profile that allows you to create a
shipping label, and in most cases those
| | 04:29 | are for things like goods, or eBay
items, but I also want to offer a ship
| | 04:34 | button for services, and cash advances.
And the reason for that is sometimes
| | 04:37 | people send a PayPal payment for an
item they're purchasing, but they've
| | 04:41 | pressed the wrong button.
| | 04:42 | So I'm going to go ahead and click
on here, and save that as an option.
| | 04:45 | That way every type of payment I
receive, I'll see a Ship Label option.
| | 04:50 | Now, I've just walked you through
the process of setting up your shipping
| | 04:53 | profile, and creating a UPS account number;
both very important for your PayPal shipping.
| | 04:59 | Now that you've set these options up,
you're ready to get started with
| | 05:02 | your shipping process.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Creating shipping labels| 00:00 | There are many different ways to print
shipping labels, and what I mean by that
| | 00:04 | is that there are many different types
of printers on the market, including Laser
| | 00:08 | or Inkjet, which most of us probably
already have, or possibly a label printer.
| | 00:14 | If you work at a company, many firms
own special UPS label printers that print
| | 00:18 | directly on self-adhesive continuous labels.
| | 00:21 | Your PayPal account can be
configured to print on a variety of printers,
| | 00:25 | including those types of printers.
| | 00:27 | So I'm going to take a look on
eBay, and find printers that will print
| | 00:30 | with PayPal shipping.
| | 00:31 | I'm going to type in some
keywords, and then click Search.
| | 00:37 | Now, the first thing I see are some
continuous label printers, and I can tool
| | 00:42 | around on eBay and find an
appropriate printer for PayPal shipping.
| | 00:45 | I can contact the seller, and make
sure that it's the right type of printer.
| | 00:48 | For someone who has a high volume
business, you'll definitely want to consider
| | 00:52 | using one of these types of
printers when you're using PayPal shipping.
| | 00:56 | Now, I'll show you how to configure one
of these printers on your PayPal profile.
| | 01:00 | If you're using a standard, regular
Laser printer, or Inkjet printer, I would
| | 01:05 | recommend getting these half sheet shipping
labels, and you can find those on eBay as well.
| | 01:10 | The half sheet shipping labels allow
you to print two labels on one sheet.
| | 01:14 | They're self-adhesive, and they peel
off, and then you can apply them to a box.
| | 01:18 | Now, to set up the different types of
printers, you'll want to go into your
| | 01:21 | Profile, just like we did
before, and go to More Options.
| | 01:26 | Under My selling tools, which is the link
there on the left hand side, we'll want
| | 01:30 | to go up to the Update Shipping Preferences.
| | 01:33 | Now, in this section, we've already
made changes to this, and set up our
| | 01:37 | profile, but there's one last thing that we
need to modify, which is the Printer Settings.
| | 01:41 | I'm going to go ahead and
click here on the Printer Settings.
| | 01:44 | Right now, the default is a
Laser or an Inkjet printer.
| | 01:48 | With the default, you can
start printing right away.
| | 01:50 | You don't need to make any changes at
all to your computer, and at this point,
| | 01:54 | if you do have a label printer like the
one I showed you on eBay, you'll want to
| | 01:57 | go ahead and select Label Printer, and
then you do need to download the Java
| | 02:01 | Runtime Environment.
| | 02:02 | Now, Java 2 Runtime
Environment is right here.
| | 02:04 | You can click on it, and you
can download it from the Web.
| | 02:12 | Now that we've installed the Java 2
Runtime Environment, we can go
| | 02:15 | ahead and select the printer type that we have.
| | 02:18 | Now, if you use a standard UPS style
label -- you know, the kind that is provided
| | 02:22 | for you by UPS; they give them out for free.
| | 02:24 | All you have to do is call their toll
free number, and they're going to be 4 inches
| | 02:27 | by 6 inches, and usually they work in
one of the Zebra brand printers.
| | 02:32 | I'll go ahead and just select one
right here, and then I'll click Save, and now
| | 02:36 | you're set up to use a
Zebra printer with your Profile.
| | 02:40 | It's that simple to make changes to
your PayPal profile to modify it to make
| | 02:44 | printer labels, and print on
the type of printer that you own.
| | 02:47 | Now, since we'll be using a standard
laser printer, I'm going to switch this
| | 02:51 | back over to standard laser or inkjet
printer labels, and I also want to print
| | 02:55 | receipts with every shipment, so I'll click
Save, and I'll modify it and change it back.
| | 03:00 | So it's that simple to
change it back if you want to.
| | 03:02 | Most likely, you'll be using the
plain paper option, and you can always buy
| | 03:05 | self-adhesive labels that
you can use with this option.
| | 03:09 | But if you're stepping into high gear,
you may also wish to explore using a
| | 03:12 | continuous label printer, which will
enhance your experience, and make printing
| | 03:17 | large volumes of labels far quicker, and
then you can peel and stick them on your
| | 03:21 | boxes, rather than using
scissors and taping them to the box.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Printing labels| 00:00 | In this movie, I'll walk you
through three things:
| | 00:03 | printing a UPS label, printing a
domestic postal service label, and printing an
| | 00:09 | international post office label.
| | 00:11 | I'm showing you all three of these so
you will be adequately prepared to handle
| | 00:15 | virtually any type of shipping that may come up.
| | 00:18 | So to start the process, I'm going to
go ahead and click on the Print Shipping
| | 00:21 | Label option right here, or if I want to,
I can always find the shipping option
| | 00:26 | from the Details page.
| | 00:28 | Since this transaction is not related
to an eBay auction, I'm going to go ahead
| | 00:33 | and ship directly from the PayPal interface.
| | 00:36 | If you've sold this item on eBay, you'll
want to go to eBay to ship it, because eBay
| | 00:40 | has a built-in shipping system.
| | 00:42 | Now, you can see here that the
payment has been completed, and it's for a
| | 00:46 | confirmed address, so I'm safe to ship
this out, and I have a confirmed address,
| | 00:50 | and all I'll be covered by
PayPal's seller protection program.
| | 00:53 | Now I scroll down, and I'll go
ahead and click on the option here for
| | 00:57 | Print Shipping Label.
| | 00:58 | Optionally, if you want to include
some paperwork with the shipment, you can
| | 01:02 | go ahead and click here, and print a
packing slip, and a handy little packing
| | 01:06 | slip will show up, and you can click
Print, and go ahead and include a copy of
| | 01:10 | this with your shipment.
| | 01:12 | When you are done, you can go
back to shipping your label.
| | 01:14 | Once you are done printing the packing
slip, you can click Print Shipping Label,
| | 01:19 | and in the next screen, you are
reminded that PayPal does offer multi-order
| | 01:23 | shipping for up to 50 Post
Office labels at one time.
| | 01:26 | If you would like to make any edits to
the shipping address, you can click here,
| | 01:30 | and go ahead and edit that.
| | 01:31 | You can also make edits to the
address you are shipping from.
| | 01:34 | So if you are at a hotel, or if you are
on the road, and you need to change the
| | 01:37 | ship from address, you can do that too.
| | 01:40 | Now let's go to the next section, and
you will see that the default shipping
| | 01:43 | carrier is the Post Office, and I'm going
to change that around, and make that UPS.
| | 01:50 | I'll check the box there, and
because I usually ship through the Post
| | 01:53 | Office, I'm not going to set that as
the default method, so I'll go ahead
| | 01:57 | and click Continue.
| | 01:59 | Now I have UPS as the method of shipping.
| | 02:01 | There's different kinds of services
offered by each carrier, depending on the
| | 02:06 | amount of money you are willing to pay,
and how fast you want it to get there.
| | 02:09 | You might want to take some time to
study these different methods on their
| | 02:11 | Web site, or give them a call.
| | 02:13 | I'm going to use UPS Ground,
which is the economy method.
| | 02:16 | I'm going to scroll down, and
I'll take a look at other options.
| | 02:19 | I am using my own packaging, and the
weight of this parcel will be one pound,
| | 02:24 | and the box is 6 by 6 by 12.
| | 02:28 | The ship date can be some date in the
future, so I'll go ahead and put tomorrow,
| | 02:32 | and you will see here that an e-mail
will be sent to the person who paid me once
| | 02:36 | I go ahead and process this shipment.
| | 02:38 | So it's important to note that the
person who paid you will get an e-mail
| | 02:41 | confirming the tracking number.
| | 02:43 | I can also opt for UPS Delivery
Notification, which means I'll receive an e-mail
| | 02:47 | confirmation when the package is delivered.
| | 02:50 | If I require a Signature
Confirmation, I can choose that right now.
| | 02:54 | Since the parcel was less than $250.00
in value, I'm not going to need a
| | 02:59 | Signature Confirmation.
| | 03:01 | If you've sold something of higher
value, and it's more than $250.00, you
| | 03:06 | definitely need to use the option of
Signature Confirmation, and definitely
| | 03:10 | want to add insurance.
| | 03:12 | I'm going to go ahead and put in a
declared value of $1.00, and then if I want to
| | 03:15 | offer optional Saturday delivery at an
additional expense, I can do that, and a
| | 03:20 | message to the person I'm
shipping the package to.
| | 03:26 | Then I'll click Continue.
| | 03:28 | I'll need to go ahead and confirm the
shipping cost, which you will see right
| | 03:31 | there on the screen.
| | 03:32 | If I'm happy with how much I'm spending
on the shipping, I can go ahead and pay
| | 03:35 | for this label, and click Continue.
| | 03:39 | Now the label has been generated.
| | 03:41 | Here at the bottom of the screen, you
will see the UPS shipping label right
| | 03:44 | there, and you can go ahead and click
Print Label, and send it to your printer.
| | 03:49 | Once you've printed it, if you've use
self-adhesive paper, you can just apply
| | 03:52 | it to the box, or you can use a strong tape,
and apply that label to the box with tape.
| | 03:58 | Then I'll click Continue to go to the next page.
| | 04:01 | Now at this point, you can make a
request for a UPS on-call pickup, or you can
| | 04:06 | drop this off at the nearest location
of a UPS store or UPS authorized outlet.
| | 04:12 | Now I'm going to go back to the My Account,
and show you a couple other things. Here we go.
| | 04:16 | We see the transaction right here --
| | 04:18 | that's the one we just shipped out -- and we go
to the bottom of the screen. We have an option.
| | 04:24 | We can reprint the label if we want to,
and that's easy to do, or we can void
| | 04:28 | the label, or we can ship another package.
| | 04:31 | Now, I'm going to void this label a
little bit later, because I'm going to make
| | 04:33 | another label, but I'll click here:
Ship Another, which is the same exact
| | 04:37 | process if I want to make a Post Office label.
| | 04:39 | So, I'm going to go ahead and make a
Post Office label, and this time I'm not
| | 04:43 | going to go through all those steps.
| | 04:45 | I'm just going to show you very quickly,
you can see that the US Postal Service
| | 04:48 | is the default carrier.
| | 04:50 | I'm going to use Parcel Post, which is
similar to UPS Ground in cost, and then
| | 04:55 | I'm going to go ahead and
indicate that it's a package.
| | 04:58 | If it's irregular in size, I need to
go ahead and indicate that as well.
| | 05:01 | I'll put in my weight, and also
let's talk about delivery confirmation.
| | 05:06 | I recommend using delivery
confirmation with every package.
| | 05:09 | It's very important,
| | 05:10 | because you need proof that
an item has been delivered.
| | 05:13 | That's automatically been added here for $0.19.
| | 05:16 | If you use Priority mail or Express
mail, it is absolutely free of cost.
| | 05:20 | If the item is over $250.00, I'll
need to spend the extra $2.05, and use a
| | 05:25 | signature confirmation, because that is
necessary in order to take advantage of
| | 05:29 | the seller protection policy.
| | 05:31 | I don't want my buyer to know how much
I paid for postage, so I'm going to opt
| | 05:35 | to not display the postage on the
label, because I also charge for the box,
| | 05:40 | and for the packing materials.
| | 05:42 | I can use insurance with the Post Office,
and I definitely want to use that if an
| | 05:46 | item is of high value.
| | 05:48 | If I want to do that, I can just click
here, and then put in the value of the
| | 05:51 | parcel, and indicate what that cost is,
and what I'm going to also do is enter a
| | 05:55 | message to the recipient,
and then click Continue.
| | 06:00 | Now the label is ready to go.
| | 06:01 | I can see the cost of the shipping there.
| | 06:03 | It indicates the package is $5.10.
| | 06:05 | $0.19 for the delivery confirmation, and
$1.80 for insurance. The total shipping
| | 06:11 | cost is $7.09. Then I can scroll down,
and I can indicate which printer I'm going
| | 06:16 | to send this to, and you can change the
printer if you want at this point, and
| | 06:20 | then I'll click Pay and Continue.
| | 06:23 | Now at this point, the label will show
up in a new tab, and if you have pop-ups
| | 06:28 | enabled, you can go
ahead and see it in a pop-up.
| | 06:30 | Then you will be able to print a
sample label, and I highly recommend you do
| | 06:34 | that for your first label of the day,
and then you can click Print Label, and the
| | 06:40 | label will be sent to your printer.
| | 06:41 | You can go ahead and print that
label out, and it's ready to go.
| | 06:46 | If the label was successful, and it
looks good, you can click Okay here, and you
| | 06:51 | will be taken back to the PayPal user interface.
| | 06:54 | Now, you can request a free carrier
pickup through the Post Office if you want to.
| | 06:59 | You will need to go ahead and put all
your information into the USPS Web site.
| | 07:02 | Now, we will be talking a little bit
more about this in another movie, so I'll
| | 07:06 | just go ahead and close this tab,
and I'll go back to My Account.
| | 07:10 | Now, the last transaction that I'm
going to show you is an international label.
| | 07:14 | I'm going to walk through this pretty
quickly, but I'll show you the process.
| | 07:18 | You can click Print Shipping Label,
and you will be able to see that the
| | 07:21 | transaction is an international one;
a cross-border trading transaction,
| | 07:25 | and something is a little bit different here.
| | 07:27 | You will see that because this was an
eBay auction -- something that I sold on
| | 07:31 | eBay -- PayPal automatically transfers
me over to the eBay shipping system.
| | 07:37 | Now, when I go ahead and fill all this
information in -- I can change the weight,
| | 07:41 | put in the weight of the
package, double check the address.
| | 07:44 | I can add additional services if I want
to, and then I can go ahead and indicate
| | 07:49 | here if I want to display the postage;
all the same things that we looked at
| | 07:52 | earlier, and if I want to, I can
change my printing preferences on this page.
| | 07:56 | I'll see the total cost of the
shipment, and I can review it.
| | 08:00 | Click Review, and make sure everything
is correct, and then I can click Continue.
| | 08:10 | At this point, my label had been
purchased, and it's ready for printing. Then I go
| | 08:15 | ahead and click Print Postage Label.
Because I went ahead and I downloaded Java 2
| | 08:20 | Runtime Environment, I can now see the
label, and I can go ahead and print it.
| | 08:24 | The label has the customs form
already on it, and everything has been neatly
| | 08:28 | prepared for me, and is signature ready.
| | 08:31 | Now, it is important to ensure that
you are securing these labels that you
| | 08:34 | print with strong tape.
| | 08:35 | Making labels this way will also
guarantee that you are in compliance with the
| | 08:39 | requirements of the shipping carrier.
| | 08:41 | With the convenience of home-based
pickup, you also will never have to leave
| | 08:45 | home to ship a parcel.

| Ordering shipping supplies| 00:00 | I'd like to share some advice and
tips about reducing the cost of shipping.
| | 00:04 | The United States Postal Service
offers free priority mail and express
| | 00:08 | mail boxes, envelopes, and
mailers on their Web site at USPS.com.
| | 00:13 | You can also obtain free supplies at UPS.com.
| | 00:17 | Although the selection of supplies is
limited, these supplies can really help
| | 00:21 | cut the cost of your overall business operation.
| | 00:24 | The first thing I'm going to do is
show you how to register on the sites, and
| | 00:27 | order these supplies.
| | 00:28 | So in order to register for UPS, you'll
need to pull up your UPS account number
| | 00:32 | from your profile, which I'm going to
do right now, And I click on the Profile
| | 00:37 | option; I go down to where we set up
our UPS account number, and you can see it
| | 00:41 | right there on the screen.
| | 00:42 | Then I'm going to go ahead and copy that.
| | 00:44 | I'll make a copy of it, and then let's
go over to UPS.com, and click on New User.
| | 00:51 | I'll go ahead and put in my name,
and fill in all my information.
| | 00:57 | I'll go ahead and accept the
user agreement, and click Next.
| | 01:02 | Put in my address information, and then
I'll opt in for the e-mail options, and
| | 01:08 | then I click Submit.
| | 01:10 | Now that I'm registered, I can
go ahead and click Continue now.
| | 01:14 | Now I can order supplies.
| | 01:16 | I can go over to the Shipping tab here, and
I'll go down to Order Supplies, right here.
| | 01:21 | Now I'll need to go ahead
and add my UPS account number.
| | 01:25 | See? There's nothing there.
| | 01:26 | I'll go ahead and click add another
account, and I'll paste the one in there.
| | 01:30 | Then I'll go ahead and put in my ZIP
Code, and I'll make that my default account.
| | 01:37 | Now that I'm set up, I can go ahead and
order supplies, and what I want to do is
| | 01:45 | order some stickers.
| | 01:46 | So right now I'm going to go over here,
and I'm going to take a look at stickers.
| | 01:49 | Now, you can see there's a lot of
different supplies available in here, and I'm
| | 01:54 | going to go ahead and order some labels.
| | 01:55 | So what I'm looking for are these labels
right here, which I can use for PayPal or
| | 02:00 | eBay shipping with UPS.
| | 02:02 | I'm going to go ahead and click the box
here, and then I'll go down here and add
| | 02:07 | to my order, and then once I do that,
you'll see that it's been added to my order
| | 02:11 | right there, and then I can go up to the
top of the page and view my order, and
| | 02:16 | then I can go ahead and check out.
| | 02:18 | Once you've added the items to your
order, you can go ahead and click Continue
| | 02:21 | and submit the order.
| | 02:24 | Once that order is submitted, you'll
receive those supplies, and they will shipped
| | 02:26 | out to you very promptly.
| | 02:28 | You can use these labels with PayPal shipping.
| | 02:30 | They're very convenient.
| | 02:32 | So let's go ahead and take a look;
| | 02:33 | there are some other supplies that you
can order here, and if you want to look
| | 02:35 | through them, you can.
| | 02:37 | You'll find all kinds of different
things, from blank forms, and tags, to
| | 02:40 | packaging, to pouches, and everything in between.
| | 02:43 | There's even UPS
envelopes for overnight shipping.
| | 02:46 | Let's go over to USPS and do the same thing.
| | 02:49 | I'm going to go ahead and register, and
sign up for an account there, and this
| | 02:53 | will be for my business, and
I'll go ahead and pick a username.
| | 03:00 | I'll check the name to make sure it's
available, and it is, and then I'll put in a
| | 03:03 | password, and I'll put in a security
question, and I need to retype it.
| | 03:10 | And I notice that I need to retype my
password too, and then I need to put in a
| | 03:14 | second security question, and the answer.
| | 03:20 | Then I go ahead and put in my information here.
| | 03:22 | Then I click Create Account.
| | 03:26 | Now I'll receive an e-mail
confirming my registration.
| | 03:30 | I'll need to go over to my e-mail and
double-check it, which is right here, and
| | 03:34 | you can see here that it's confirmed,
and then I can go ahead and sign in.
| | 03:39 | Once you're signed in, you can order supplies.
| | 03:41 | So I'm going to go over to the USPS
Web site, and I'm going to take a look at the
| | 03:46 | supplies that are available.
| | 03:47 | So I'm going to click on Shop, and I'm
going to order free boxes right here.
| | 03:52 | Now, there's a lot of free boxes available.
| | 03:54 | I often use flat rate boxes and things
like that, but I'm going to go ahead and
| | 03:58 | take a look at these.
| | 03:59 | You have just a ton of different options,
and if you want to scroll through them,
| | 04:03 | you can, and take a look at them.
| | 04:04 | If you click View All, you can
see a whole bunch of different free
| | 04:08 | packaging options for you.
| | 04:11 | What I'm going to do is order just a
standard, flat rate Priority Mail box for
| | 04:15 | board games, because
apparently they offer these cool things.
| | 04:18 | This is nifty, so if you're
shipping board games --
| | 04:20 | I'm just going to order one for this
demonstration, and you'll see that I've got
| | 04:24 | the two things that I've asked for
here in my checkout, and they're totally
| | 04:28 | free; there's no cost.
| | 04:29 | Then I go ahead and agree to the terms
of the agreement here, and then I make
| | 04:33 | sure my address is good, and
then I go ahead and click Continue.
| | 04:38 | Once I do that, I will be
able to submit my order.
| | 04:40 | I'll just have to go ahead and
double-check it, and click Submit.
| | 04:43 | My order has been processed.
| | 04:45 | I can print the order if I want to.
| | 04:47 | The free packaging can only be used
for the carrier that gave it to you.
| | 04:51 | Now, for the United States Postal Service,
other uses are actually a federal offense.
| | 04:55 | For example, you can never
use those boxes to ship UPS.
| | 05:00 | I find the Priority Mail and the special
flat rate boxes and envelopes offered by
| | 05:04 | the post office are truly a superior
way to ship, and get items to you buyers
| | 05:08 | fast and affordably.
| | 05:10 | For light items, I really find the
priority mail offers a superior price point,
| | 05:15 | and you'll definitely want to look
at shipping items under four pounds by
| | 05:18 | priority mail before you consider UPS.
| | 05:22 | I used UPS or Parcel Post for heavier
items, and bear in mind that a box can cost
| | 05:27 | a lot; sometimes even a few dollars per order.
| | 05:29 | So being able to eliminate the cost will
be a quick way to increase your overall
| | 05:34 | customer satisfaction, and sell
more items for lower shipping fees.

| Arranging a shipping carrier pickup| 00:00 | Something important to realize about
shipping carriers is that they pick up.
| | 00:04 | As a retail customer of the post office
and UPS, you're probably used to having to
| | 00:09 | wait in long lines to have
your parcels shipped out for you.
| | 00:12 | Now that you're moving into e-
commerce, you're going to have preferential
| | 00:16 | treatment from these carriers, and
they're actually going to pick up the packages
| | 00:19 | from you at your home or your office.
| | 00:21 | I'm going to walk you through the
procedure for making a pickup request
| | 00:24 | from both carriers.
| | 00:26 | From the UPS.com Web site, you'll
look on the left hand side, and you'll
| | 00:30 | see Schedule a Pickup.
| | 00:31 | You'll click on that link, and then
you'll want to indicate the type of packages,
| | 00:34 | and if you have pre-printed labels.
| | 00:36 | Then you click Continue.
| | 00:39 | Then you're going to want to
indicate what the payment method is.
| | 00:41 | That's for the charges for making the
pickup, and there is going to be a small fee.
| | 00:46 | Indicate if you have pre-printed labels,
and then enter in the tracking numbers
| | 00:49 | of those labels, so that UPS can make a
record of them in their system. And it
| | 00:54 | will also indicate here that there is
going to be a pickup charge that will
| | 00:57 | apply to this pickup.
| | 00:58 | Then let's go to the next section,
where we can say where we're going to pick
| | 01:02 | up the packages from.
| | 01:03 | You can pick up from your UPS
account address, or you can use a different
| | 01:07 | address if you want to.
| | 01:09 | Then indicate who should be the point
of contact, what room or floor, and if
| | 01:13 | it's a residential address.
| | 01:15 | Then put your phone number in there.
| | 01:17 | So fill in all the information about
packages: how many you have, and the types
| | 01:21 | of packages you have as well.
| | 01:23 | That way that the person coming over
is prepared, and that they have a big
| | 01:26 | enough truck or vehicle to
pick up the parcels that you need.
| | 01:29 | If you have any heavy items,
you need to indicate that as well.
| | 01:33 | Then indicate here when
they're going to be picking up.
| | 01:35 | If they're going to be picking up
sometime in the future, indicate the date
| | 01:38 | there, up to a week in advance, and the
earliest and latest times they can come.
| | 01:43 | Also, the preferred pickup location, and
in this case it will be the front door, and
| | 01:47 | any reference number that
you want to indicate here.
| | 01:50 | Now, if you have a pickup reference
number, you can enter something simple,
| | 01:53 | such as eBay Auction.
| | 01:56 | You can also put special instructions
here, and then go ahead and indicate if you
| | 02:01 | need any pickup notifications.
| | 02:02 | That means, if you need to be
notified when somebody picks up the parcel.
| | 02:06 | So you can receive a text message if you
want to, by putting in your cellphone, or
| | 02:12 | you can receive
notifications at an e-mail address.
| | 02:14 | I'm going to go ahead and click Next.
| | 02:17 | I'll go ahead and review the charges.
| | 02:19 | There's an $8.08 charge for making the pickup.
| | 02:21 | That's a convenience fee, and if your
time is valuable, and you don't want to
| | 02:25 | wait in a 30 minute line to drop off a
package, then you can go ahead and use
| | 02:29 | this pickup service.
| | 02:30 | Let's go to the next screen, and then
click Next, and then we're going to go ahead
| | 02:34 | and confirm the pickup.
| | 02:36 | This pickup confirmation screen shows
you all the details, and you'll get a
| | 02:40 | Pickup Request Number.
| | 02:41 | You can go ahead and modify this Pickup
Request Number, or cancel it if you wish.
| | 02:46 | The next thing I want to show you is a
United States Postal Service carrier pickup.
| | 02:50 | You'll need to be signed into the
Web site to ship a package, so let's go ahead
| | 02:54 | and click on this link right here,
and then click Schedule a Pickup.
| | 02:58 | In the next section, go ahead and
fill in your information, and you should
| | 03:02 | indicate where they'll
be picking up the parcels.
| | 03:06 | Go ahead and fill in your City,
and your State, and your Zip Code.
| | 03:13 | The system will then validate your
address, and you'll want to use the
| | 03:16 | new validated address.
| | 03:18 | If there'sany additional notes that
you need to give the driver, you can go
| | 03:20 | ahead and check this box.
| | 03:22 | Then you'll want to
indicate the date for the pickup.
| | 03:26 | Then how many parcels you
have, and the estimated weight.
| | 03:36 | Then go ahead and check this box to
indicate that you've read the policy
| | 03:39 | statement, and then click Schedule a Pickup.
| | 03:42 | The pickup has been scheduled.
| | 03:44 | A carrier pickup from the shipping
carrier will save you precious time.
| | 03:48 | Although the post office offers a
free pickup, and UPS charges something,
| | 03:52 | both services offer this highly
convenient program that makes your e-commerce
| | 03:57 | endeavors timesaving and profitable for you.
| | 04:00 | Consider the value of your time
before you wait in line, and the fact that
| | 04:04 | the last time I went to the post office, I
waited 22 minutes in line to ship one parcel.
| | 04:09 | So I decided to do it all on the
internet, and let my fingers save me a
| | 04:13 | tremendous amount of time,
which translates into more money.

7. Reviewing TransactionsUsing the basic search feature| 00:00 | Occasionally, a buyer may contact you,
and ask a question about an order. They
| | 00:05 | might ask about a tracking number for
something you've shipped, or you may
| | 00:09 | simply wish to look up a transaction on
your account, just to see how much money
| | 00:13 | you've received, or the total
fees that you've paid to PayPal.
| | 00:17 | You can conduct basic research on
PayPal using the History option, and there's
| | 00:21 | a basic search option there by going over
to History, and then clicking on Basic Search.
| | 00:26 | Now, on your home screen, you'll
always see the latest payments that you've
| | 00:29 | received, but using Basic
Search, you can dive a little deeper.
| | 00:33 | You have the ability to look at Recent
Activity here, or you can simply go to All
| | 00:39 | activity, and put in a date range.
| | 00:43 | You can use this selection tool to
change the date range, or you can just put it
| | 00:46 | in through the Calendar
tool, which is right here.
| | 00:48 | So if you want to look at specific date
ranges, such as payments that might have
| | 00:51 | been received on one day,
you can certainly do that.
| | 00:58 | Or, using the pulldown menu,
you can look at an entire month.
| | 01:02 | Let me show you some additional filters.
| | 01:04 | You can take a look at all activity
that affects your balance, or even requests
| | 01:09 | for money that have come from other people.
| | 01:11 | Now, here's a More Filters option, and
this is something that will allow you to do
| | 01:14 | a lot more powerful filtering.
| | 01:16 | You can take a look at all kinds of
information here, such as, here's an
| | 01:20 | example: payments that have been
received to specific e-mail addresses
| | 01:24 | associated with your account.
| | 01:25 | So if you have more than one e-mail
address on your account, you can go ahead and
| | 01:29 | click on this options, and just see the
payments that have been received for that
| | 01:32 | specific e-mail address.
| | 01:34 | So if you're tracking payments for a
specific e-mail, and you'd like to create a
| | 01:38 | printed report, you can quickly click on
the Print option here, and a report will
| | 01:42 | be generated and sent to your printer.
| | 01:44 | Some of the other filters that you can
look through, if you want to take a look
| | 01:49 | at some additional options, are things
like refunds that you've issued to other
| | 01:52 | people, or you can go down further, and
look at items that need to be shipped out.
| | 02:00 | There's a lot of different other
filters, and you can explore those on your own,
| | 02:03 | but basic research can be
conducted using this tool.
| | 02:06 | You'll be able to quickly find
transactions by type or date, and open and review
| | 02:11 | them using this simple tool here.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Using the advanced search feature| 00:00 | This will sound a little cliche, but
there are times when a simple search just
| | 00:04 | isn't good enough, and you'll want to
find PayPal transactions using criteria
| | 00:08 | that may go beyond a date, or transaction type.
| | 00:12 | With the advanced search feature, you
can locate transactions quickly using a
| | 00:15 | variety of search inputs.
| | 00:17 | Now, before we get started, I want to
show you that I've gone ahead and I've
| | 00:21 | created a document on Notepad that
shows four different types of searches, and
| | 00:27 | I'll walk you through each
of these in just a moment.
| | 00:29 | But I've gone ahead and done that so
we can just simply copy and paste the
| | 00:32 | information, and we're going to find
the exact same transaction four different
| | 00:35 | ways, using an advanced search feature.
| | 00:38 | First, I want to click on the
History option, and go to Advanced Search.
| | 00:42 | The first option is to search by
e-mail address.
| | 00:45 | So I'll go over to the Notepad, and I'll
copy the e-mail address that I have here,
| | 00:51 | and then I'll go back to the browser, and
I'll paste it in to the search box here,
| | 00:55 | and then I'll click Search.
| | 00:56 | Now obviously, you can see here there's
additional features, such as date range.
| | 01:00 | If you want to narrow the date
down, you can certainly do that.
| | 01:03 | The transaction I'm looking
for is this one right here.
| | 01:05 | Now let me go ahead and show you a
different way to find the same transaction.
| | 01:10 | I'm going to go ahead and
copy the transaction ID number.
| | 01:14 | Now, you'll see the transaction ID
number here in my little Notepad document, and
| | 01:19 | that matches the one on the
transaction that you see in front of you.
| | 01:21 | I'm going to go over to History, and do
an Advanced Search again, and then I'll
| | 01:26 | copy and paste that into here. And then
I'll go to Transaction ID number this
| | 01:30 | time, and I'll click Search.
| | 01:32 | Notice that the date range has been
grayed out, which indicates the transaction
| | 01:36 | ID is not something you can search for by date.
| | 01:39 | It's a very specific, unique transaction
ID number that is completely unique to
| | 01:44 | an individual transaction on PayPal.
| | 01:47 | There's the transaction again.
| | 01:48 | We're going to go ahead and
look it up two more different ways.
| | 01:51 | One is by last name, which is Spencer, and
I'll go ahead, and I'll look it up by Spencer.
| | 01:57 | So let's take a look at that.
| | 02:00 | I'll go ahead and paste the word
Spencer in there, and look it up by last name,
| | 02:04 | and you can see the same transaction right here.
| | 02:09 | Now we're going to try one more
search, and we're going to search by last
| | 02:12 | name, then first name.
| | 02:15 | Then we go over here to History, and then
click on Advanced Search, and then paste it in here.
| | 02:20 | Then we'll select Last Name, then
First Name, and we'll click Search again.
| | 02:28 | Now this time we found the same transaction,
again, using a different type of advanced search.
| | 02:33 | These are some of the examples of
advanced searches that you can do under the
| | 02:37 | History link here. And there's some
additional methods of searching for advanced
| | 02:42 | search features, such as by
currency type, which you can see here.
| | 02:45 | The different types of currencies; so
if you've received a transaction in
| | 02:49 | Canadian Dollars, Euros, or some other
form of currency, you can go ahead and
| | 02:53 | filter by those methods.
| | 02:55 | You can also change the
date range if you'd like,
| | 02:57 | if you'd simply like to look for a
specific date range. And there's other
| | 03:00 | features here that allow you to look
stuff up by Invoice ID number if you've
| | 03:04 | sent the person an invoice request.
| | 03:07 | If it's an eBay transaction, you can
quickly look it up by the eBay Auction ID
| | 03:11 | number, which is called the Item number
on the listing page, or you can look up
| | 03:15 | other types of transactions as well.
| | 03:18 | Now, you've been armed with the knowledge
you'll need to find any transaction on your account.
| | 03:22 | This essential knowledge of advanced
searching will improve your customer
| | 03:26 | interactions, because it will allow
you to quickly find a transaction when
| | 03:29 | discussing it with your clients.
| | 03:31 | If you buy a lot of items, it will
also help you locate purchases quickly
| | 03:35 | and efficiently.

| Downloading your transaction history| 00:00 | PayPal is a secure network, and your
personal information is extremely safe.
| | 00:05 | However, you may wish to share the
information from your PayPal account
| | 00:09 | about your income or payments with a
bookkeeper, a business partner, or possibly a spouse.
| | 00:15 | There are tools that will help you
connect this data with programs such as
| | 00:19 | Excel, QuickBooks, Quicken, or other
programs that use industry standard file
| | 00:24 | formats, such as Comma Separated
Values files, or Tab Delimited files.
| | 00:30 | We're going to take a look at this,
and I'll walk you through the process.
| | 00:33 | First of all, let's go over to the
History link and look at Download History.
| | 00:38 | Because you might have a lot of
transaction history in your account, the request
| | 00:43 | will be queued up, and then what will
happen is PayPal will notify you, and
| | 00:46 | provide you with ability to download that file.
| | 00:50 | They say that it can take up to 24
hours for the log to be processed, but
| | 00:54 | usually I find that is not really the case.
| | 00:56 | It usually happens in a much shorter timeframe.
| | 00:59 | For the purposes of this demo, let me
walk you through a few of the steps.
| | 01:02 | First of all, you need to put in a
custom date range, which is the dates in which
| | 01:06 | you want the transaction download.
| | 01:08 | Secondly, you should
customize the download fields.
| | 01:11 | There's really no reason to download
information that you're not interested in.
| | 01:15 | So let's scroll through and take a look at them.
| | 01:17 | You're going to want to customize
some of these fields, such as item ID.
| | 01:21 | Perhaps you want to include that,
but maybe you don't need all this
| | 01:24 | additional information.
| | 01:25 | I definitely do want to know the
shipping and insurance amounts, but maybe I
| | 01:28 | don't need all these extra stuff.
| | 01:31 | Maybe I want to report sales tax, and
I don't really need a phone number.
| | 01:35 | What I'll also do is scroll down, and
take off some additional fields, just to cut
| | 01:38 | down the size of the report.
| | 01:41 | Once I'm done making these
changes, I can click Save.
| | 01:45 | Now the system will only generate a
report with the fields that I have selected.
| | 01:49 | I'm going to walk you through a
very simple report; just one day.
| | 01:53 | I'll go ahead and change this to the 5th,
so I'll just be reporting on one day,
| | 01:57 | which is October 5th, and you
have different types of files.
| | 02:01 | You can download All Activity,
Completed Payments, or Payments that affect
| | 02:05 | your PayPal balance.
| | 02:06 | I'm going to go ahead and take a look
at just Completed Payments, and I'm going
| | 02:10 | to use a Comma Separated Values file.
| | 02:13 | This is a file that's easy for me to
open up in a program such as Excel.
| | 02:17 | If you use Quicken or QuickBooks, you
might want to use those file formats, and
| | 02:21 | you can see those right below. Or, if you
just want a printed report that you can
| | 02:24 | look at and print it out, you can use a PDF.
| | 02:27 | That's another very convenient and
universal way to share information.
| | 02:31 | Since I'm actually going to be loading
this up in a custom piece of software, I'm
| | 02:35 | going to go ahead and use the
Completed Payments for Comma Delimited.
| | 02:38 | If you just want to download
transactions from the last time you've made a
| | 02:42 | report, you can use the next section, and
select the options there, and if you are
| | 02:46 | integrated with a Shopping Cart, you
can include the Shopping Cart details by
| | 02:50 | clicking this option, and
then click Download History.
| | 02:54 | Now at this point, your request will be
queued up, and you will be notified when it's ready.
| | 02:59 | Because PayPal has a lot of customers,
they'll need to notify me by e-mail, and
| | 03:03 | let me know when my report is
prepared and ready for downloading.
| | 03:07 | Now at this point, I'll click Continue,
and I'll go open up my e-mail, and I'll take
| | 03:11 | a look around and see what came in.
| | 03:12 | Now, the first e-mail that I received
shows that the log is available for download.
| | 03:17 | I'll go ahead and click on that e-mail,
and it says to download your log, please
| | 03:22 | login to your PayPal account
by clicking the link below,
| | 03:24 | so I'm going to do that.
| | 03:25 | I'll click the link.
| | 03:27 | You'll need to sign in to PayPal if
you're not already signed in, and you
| | 03:30 | can click Download Log.
| | 03:33 | Now, at this point, you can
save this to your computer.
| | 03:36 | So what I'm going to do is save that
to my exercise files folder, and I'll go
| | 03:40 | ahead and click here and click Save, and
then I want to open this up and take a look at it.
| | 03:45 | Now, all the transactions that were
downloaded are in CSV file, which means
| | 03:50 | they're not properly formatted yet,
but what I can do is adjust the column
| | 03:54 | widths, and make it clean and nice, and
make this report nice and attractive, so
| | 03:59 | that somebody who's looking at it
might think, wow, Christopher's such a pro.
| | 04:03 | He really knows how to make reports.
| | 04:05 | So I'll go ahead and go through the
different fields, and clean them up a little bit.
| | 04:08 | You'll be receiving data in raw format, so
fields such as numbers will need to be reformatted.
| | 04:15 | If you'd like to learn more about Excel,
you can go ahead and check out some of
| | 04:19 | the courses here on the Lynda.
com Online Training Library.
| | 04:23 | So I'm going to go ahead a clean up
this format, and make it look real good.
| | 04:27 | Once I'm done formatting my report, and
making it as attractive as I possibly can,
| | 04:32 | I will go ahead and save it as an Excel file.
| | 04:36 | So I'll go over here to Excel workbook,
and I will rename it, and there you go.
| | 04:43 | So I'm going to flip back over to
PayPal, and talk a little bit more about this.
| | 04:48 | So again, if you want to download in
other formats from the Download History
| | 04:51 | link, you can integrate with things
like QuickBooks and Quicken, and that's a
| | 04:55 | very, very helpful thing to do.
| | 04:57 | If you don't want to have to key in a
lot of information, you might want to use
| | 05:00 | that for your accounting software.
| | 05:02 | You'll find the various history download
options very helpful in running your business.
| | 05:07 | Imagine being able to quickly import
all your PayPal information into income
| | 05:11 | statements in QuickBooks, and save
endless hours of data entry, or be able to
| | 05:16 | breeze through sales tax returns with
ease, because all the data is neatly
| | 05:20 | organized for you through the
history download options on PayPal.

| Pulling down statements| 00:00 | Sometimes you'll want a convenient
statement of activity from PayPal, so you can
| | 00:04 | quickly view a clean snapshot of what you
have been doing in terms of buying and selling.
| | 00:09 | With the statement download option,
you'll have the ability to review this
| | 00:12 | data quickly and easily.
| | 00:14 | You'll need to be on the site for
at least a month, so the data will be
| | 00:17 | accumulated and ready to
view in a statement format.
| | 00:21 | First thing you want to do is go to the
History option, and look at Basic Search;
| | 00:25 | you can find the statements from here.
| | 00:27 | The next step is to go and put your mouse
under the More option you'll see right here.
| | 00:32 | Now, under More, you'll see options for
Monthly Account Statement, plus you can
| | 00:36 | export the transactions in front you in
various different formats, and download
| | 00:41 | the history from your PayPal account.
This is a quick shortcut to do that.
| | 00:45 | Any time you're within this menu, and
you've done a search, you can also print or
| | 00:49 | download to CSV; whichever you prefer.
| | 00:52 | To get a Monthly Account
Statement, you'll need to click over here.
| | 00:56 | Since this is your first time using
this interface, you'll need to go ahead and
| | 00:59 | select to receive Monthly
Account Statements, and click Save.
| | 01:03 | At this point, you can view the most
recent statements. You have three months
| | 01:08 | right here, and you can go ahead and
click the one you're interested in. I'm
| | 01:10 | going to use September, and I'm
going to go ahead and view it.
| | 01:14 | You can use this menu to change the
currency type if you wish, and see the
| | 01:17 | different statements for the different
currencies that you're holding, plus you
| | 01:21 | can scroll down into the list, and
look at the various different days.
| | 01:25 | If you want to see the actual
transaction history, you can click on one of this
| | 01:29 | hot links, and take a look at it.
| | 01:31 | That'll bring up a list of transactions that
are related to that date on your statement.
| | 01:35 | I'll go ahead and click this
button to Move to Recent Activity.
| | 01:39 | Now I can pull up another statement;
let's take a look at it. I'll click here.
| | 01:42 | I'll go back to statements, and look at a
different statement. I can click View.
| | 01:47 | Now, within the statement, you can
scroll through, and you can go ahead and
| | 01:52 | download the transaction details for that
statement, or you can get a printable version.
| | 01:57 | The printable version is formatted
to be optimized to print on a standard
| | 02:01 | piece of paper, so on a laser printer, or
inkjet printer, you can go ahead and print this.
| | 02:05 | Then you click Print, and
it'll print it out for you.
| | 02:08 | Once you're done printing, you can go
back to close the window, and return back to
| | 02:12 | the statement itself, and you can
generate other statements, or download
| | 02:15 | additional information.
| | 02:17 | If you've decided that you no longer
wish to receive monthly statements, you
| | 02:20 | can click this option here, and
click Save, and you no longer will have
| | 02:24 | statements generated for you.
| | 02:25 | Your most recent monthly statement is
ready after the 10th of the current month,
| | 02:30 | and is available for three months.
| | 02:32 | The statement includes all PayPal
transactions, plus starting and ending balances.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Issuing a refund| 00:00 | You can issue a refund on a PayPal
transaction up to 60 days after it's received,
| | 00:05 | and conversely, as a buyer, you can ask
a seller for one in the same time frame.
| | 00:10 | To refund money to someone through
PayPal is very simple and easy to do.
| | 00:14 | There are some important considerations.
| | 00:17 | If the buyer paid with a credit card,
their payment is refunded to their debit
| | 00:21 | or credit card, and it may take up to
30 days for the refund to appear on the
| | 00:25 | buyer's credit card or debit card bank
statement, which is what PayPal quotes on their Web site.
| | 00:31 | However, that's pretty rare. In
reality it takes a lot less time than that.
| | 00:35 | If the buyer paid with a bank
account, or a PayPal balance, the payment is
| | 00:39 | refunded to the PayPal balance, and
not the bank account it came from.
| | 00:43 | You can always turn around and have
the buyer transfer that money back to the
| | 00:47 | bank account if they so choose.
| | 00:50 | That sometimes causes some confusion
for buyers, because they think that the
| | 00:53 | money will go back to the
bank statement, and it doesn't.
| | 00:55 | They have to actually
proactively transfer that balance out.
| | 00:59 | To refund a transaction, you go to the
History page, and click on the Advanced
| | 01:03 | Search link, and you can look up the
transaction by name, or by some other
| | 01:08 | method, like e-mail address.
| | 01:10 | I'm going to use name, and I'll look
up the transaction here by last name,
| | 01:14 | and then first name.
| | 01:16 | When I find the transaction I'm
looking for, which is right here --
| | 01:19 | I'll click on the link; the hotlink
that takes me to the details page.
| | 01:23 | I want to go ahead and scroll
through and make sure that this is the
| | 01:26 | transaction I want to refund, and
you'll see an indication here that there is
| | 01:30 | actually a refund option.
| | 01:32 | It also says there's 60
days to refund the payment.
| | 01:35 | Click on the Refund option now, go
ahead and enter a comment if you wish, or a
| | 01:40 | subject line, or an invoice number,
or anything you want to do there.
| | 01:46 | And then you go ahead and hit the Continue
button, and then you can issue the refund.
| | 01:53 | If 60 days has already elapsed, you can
go ahead and click on the Send Money tab,
| | 01:58 | and you can enter all the information
there and refund the payment. However, you
| | 02:02 | won't be refunded any of
your PayPal transaction fees.
| | 02:07 | Refunds are super simple and straightforward.
| | 02:09 | In the event that a buyer initiates a
dispute on a transaction, which is pretty rare,
| | 02:13 | refunds will need to made
through the Dispute console.
| | 02:17 | You may be new to the world of digital
payments, but it's important to understand
| | 02:20 | how to issue refunds when you need to.

8. Managing DisputesUnderstanding the basics of disputes| 00:00 | Sometimes life isn't going to turn up
all roses, and when things go wrong, it's
| | 00:04 | important to know the exact rights that
you have, and the methods of resolving a
| | 00:08 | dispute with another person on PayPal.
| | 00:11 | For buyers, you have forty-five
days within which to dispute a transaction
| | 00:16 | for non-delivery, or because the item
that you received didn't match the ad.
| | 00:21 | It's extremely important that you first
contact the seller and try to work it out.
| | 00:26 | It's considered impolite, and not very
reasonable, to start a dispute on PayPal
| | 00:31 | before giving an honest seller a
chance to resolve the problem informally.
| | 00:35 | So you do have a whole month and a
half to resolve it before being forced to
| | 00:39 | file a dispute, so don't be impatient.
| | 00:41 | Go ahead and try to work it out.
| | 00:43 | For sellers, you must follow the
following procedures for protecting yourself on
| | 00:47 | any transaction, by consistently
doing the same things on each shipment.
| | 00:52 | First of all, be sure you're
shipping to a confirmed address.
| | 00:55 | You'll need to send the shipment out
within the first seven days after
| | 00:58 | receiving the payment.
| | 00:59 | Also, you want to make sure
that you're not shipping to an alternate
| | 01:02 | address, even if the buyer begs you to
do so, because you won't be protected by
| | 01:06 | the Seller Protection
Policy on the PayPal Web site.
| | 01:10 | Be sure you're keeping proof of
shipment with some form of online tracking,
| | 01:14 | and if the shipment is over $250, be
sure you go ahead and obtain signature
| | 01:19 | for proof of delivery.
| | 01:21 | Remember that any items that are
picked up from you are never covered, and
| | 01:24 | you must sell tangible products
or tangible items if you want to be
| | 01:28 | protected by PayPal.
| | 01:30 | You'll also want to make sure that you're
only receiving one payment per order;
| | 01:33 | that's something else that PayPal requires.
| | 01:36 | Ensure that what you're shipping out
to the buyer is the exact same product
| | 01:40 | that you represented.
| | 01:41 | If you send a substitution, and they're
dissatisfied, they'll have a right to
| | 01:44 | return that item, or dispute
the transaction.
| | 01:48 | Whether you're a buyer or a seller,
any dispute you're involved in will take
| | 01:52 | place in the PayPal Resolution Center.
| | 01:54 | That's right over here on the PayPal site.
| | 01:57 | I'll cover this in more detail in a
later movie, but in the interim, it's
| | 02:01 | important to understand that you'll
need to have a fair and reasonable case
| | 02:05 | in any situation where you're asking PayPal
to get involved and mediate a payment dispute.
| | 02:10 | PayPal is helpful, but they're not
going to act like your lawyer, or become a
| | 02:14 | court of law for you in a
complex dispute of any kind.
| | 02:17 | They'll only be able to help you with
the basic dispute resolution between you
| | 02:21 | and the other party based on the
policies they have on their Web site.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Keeping good records| 00:00 | I've clearly covered what your
requirements are in terms of PayPal seller
| | 00:03 | protection, but I'd also like to cover
some details about protecting yourself
| | 00:08 | against chargebacks.
| | 00:10 | I'm often surprised how relaxed sellers
can become when dealing with thousands
| | 00:13 | of dollars in virtual money.
| | 00:16 | Perhaps it's because you don't see the
dollar bills, and it doesn't seem that real,
| | 00:19 | but I'd like to ask you to please
consider maintaining good records, and
| | 00:23 | protecting yourself against chargebacks.
| | 00:25 | When shipping anything, be sure to pay for
delivery confirmation with the Post Office.
| | 00:30 | UPS automatically provides proof of delivery.
| | 00:33 | For any items over $250.00, add a
signature confirmation, and then put a big
| | 00:38 | label on the box that states, adult
signature required in order to ensure the
| | 00:43 | carrier does not get lax
about obtaining that signature.
| | 00:46 | For any items that you're not willing
to lose your investment on, please go
| | 00:49 | ahead and ensure them.
| | 00:51 | For some smaller, cheaper items, they
might not warrant insurance, especially
| | 00:54 | if you have a high margin, and you can
easily replace it with another for your buyer.
| | 00:59 | For ultra-high value merchandise, you
may wish to video tape the packing of that
| | 01:04 | item, and then keep that video, or a
photograph, so that you have a record of what
| | 01:08 | was put inside the box, in case you
need some compelling proof at a later time.
| | 01:13 | Online tracking only lasts for a
certain period of time, so be sure to print a
| | 01:17 | proof of delivery for a buyer who
hasn't confirmed receipt yet through an e-mail,
| | 01:21 | or through eBay through a
positive feedback score.
| | 01:25 | Generally, eBay and PayPal consider
positive feedback a bulletproof shield
| | 01:29 | against a chargeback.
| | 01:31 | If you do accept local pickups, and
you've received payment through PayPal, be
| | 01:35 | 100% sure that you do not give any
cash back. And be sure you obtain a signed
| | 01:41 | agreement or receipt with that buyer,
with the full description of that item, the
| | 01:45 | date and the signature acknowledging it
was picked up by the buyer, and that they
| | 01:49 | accepted the condition and
the quality of the merchandise.
| | 01:53 | Never accept multiple payments for
items that you're shipping to strangers,
| | 01:56 | unless you're comfortable with that
person, since seller protection is voided
| | 02:00 | when multiple payments are received.
| | 02:02 | Keep your shipping documents
for at least 90 days at a minimum.
| | 02:06 | You may also wish to keep them for
longer if the items are of a high value.
| | 02:11 | I'd like to remind you that
chargebacks are rare, and because you're an honest
| | 02:15 | and an ethical seller,
you're going to rarely have one.
| | 02:18 | But be armed with good knowledge, and
good recordkeeping skills, to protect
| | 02:22 | yourselves against them.

| What to do if an item doesn't arrive| 00:00 | Okay. Despite the fact that the seller
claimed it was shipped, it never came.
| | 00:05 | Let's talk through what
you should do as a buyer.
| | 00:08 | First of all, bear in mind that USPS,
the postal service, does not provide real
| | 00:13 | time tracking, except with express mail.
| | 00:16 | So the tracking information that you've
received through eBay, or through their
| | 00:20 | e-commerce site, may be accurate
information, but it may not be timely.
| | 00:24 | Usually, it's scanned at the time of
delivery only, unless it's an express mail package.
| | 00:30 | Be sure you're allowing ample time for
things like media mail and parcel post,
| | 00:34 | both of which take much longer.
| | 00:36 | If you're in a U.S. territory, and
you're not on the mainland, such as Hawaii,
| | 00:41 | Puerto Rico, Alaska, and different
places, please allow a lot more time, and be
| | 00:46 | kind to your seller, because they
can't always control the amount of time it
| | 00:49 | takes for you to receive the item.
| | 00:51 | As long as they've provided you with a
valid delivery confirmation number, or
| | 00:56 | tracking number, then go ahead and
be patient while the shipment arrives.
| | 00:59 | For cross-border shipments, give plenty of time.
| | 01:02 | That parcel will need to go through
customs, as well as be cleared by a customs
| | 01:06 | officer before delivery.
| | 01:08 | If you still feel you're not
getting anywhere by contacting your seller
| | 01:11 | directly, you can open a dispute, and
I'll go ahead and show you that in a moment.
| | 01:16 | You'll need to start that process
within 45 days of making the payment.
| | 01:20 | You have 20 days after you open a
dispute to work it out informally on the
| | 01:25 | dispute console, which means that you
and the seller are working it out directly,
| | 01:28 | although you have filed a claim.
| | 01:31 | Then you will need to escalate it to
PayPal management within that 20 day window,
| | 01:35 | or it will automatically be cancelled.
| | 01:38 | So if you don't feel like thing are
working out with the other party, and the
| | 01:41 | seller's not cooperating or
communicating, you can't wait 'til it closes before
| | 01:46 | you go ahead and escalate it.
| | 01:48 | You'll need to do that before hand.
| | 01:50 | If an item arrives broken, you might
consider asking about insurance from
| | 01:54 | the seller, because that may be your
primary coverage, and not PayPal buyer protection.
| | 01:59 | Be sure you take photos of items if they
arrived broken or significantly not as described.
| | 02:03 | Now, I'm going to walk you through a
couple things: the first one is, I want to
| | 02:07 | go to the eBay Web site, and because a
lot of folks pay with PayPal on eBay, I
| | 02:11 | want to show you the
process of starting a dispute.
| | 02:14 | I actually have an item that didn't
arrive, and I make notes on my eBay account
| | 02:18 | when an item does arrive, so I'll
know which ones are still pending.
| | 02:21 | So here's an item that didn't arrive yet,
and I'm to go ahead and resolve a problem.
| | 02:25 | I'll click on the Resolve a problem link,
and you'll see some topics here, and you
| | 02:30 | can go ahead and indicate what's
happened, which is my item hasn't arrived yet.
| | 02:35 | Then you can go ahead and report that
you did not receive your item, which is
| | 02:38 | right here, and I get a reassuring
comment from eBay that says, eBay Buyer
| | 02:43 | Protection has got you covered.
| | 02:45 | We're here to help.
| | 02:47 | So I'll scroll down, and
I'll click Open a case.
| | 02:50 | Now you can go ahead and
follow along with the form.
| | 02:52 | Did the seller try to help you with the
problem? Are you currently trying to
| | 02:55 | work it out with the seller?
| | 02:57 | And you can say no.
| | 02:59 | Explain what happened in your
communication with the seller: no proof of
| | 03:03 | shipment has been provided yet.
| | 03:07 | Enter a phone number where we can reach you,
and can we share your number with the seller?
| | 03:14 | Yes.
| | 03:15 | And how can we help you?
| | 03:16 | I still want the item from the
seller, and go ahead and open a case.
| | 03:21 | You've opened a case for your
transaction, and you can click here on the
| | 03:24 | Resolution Center, and you'll
see the information right there.
| | 03:29 | If you'd like to, you can go ahead
and click here to see the case details.
| | 03:33 | At this point, you can add a message, or
if you've resolved the problem with the
| | 03:37 | other party, you can go
ahead and close the case.
| | 03:40 | You can see right there in the center of the
screen, there's links for both of those actions.
| | 03:44 | There's another thing that you can
do, which is you can contact the other
| | 03:48 | party by telephone.
| | 03:49 | If you want to call them, you can go
ahead and click Advanced search, and then
| | 03:52 | use this form over here:
Find contact information.
| | 03:56 | You can find the contact information by
entering the user ID of the member, and
| | 03:59 | then the item number of the
item that you're concerned about.
| | 04:03 | Let's go through PayPal and look at
the dispute resolution process here.
| | 04:08 | You click on the Resolution Center, and
then in order to open a case, you go over
| | 04:14 | here to Report a problem, and then
you click Report a problem right there.
| | 04:20 | Indicate the type of problem you're
having. In this case, an Item dispute.
| | 04:24 | Then find the transaction ID by
clicking this button right here.
| | 04:29 | Once you've done that, you can click on
one of the transactions that you need
| | 04:33 | to dispute, and it'll be automatically
populated into the form, and then you click Continue.
| | 04:39 | Now you have a change to indicate what
the problem is. In this case, you can say
| | 04:43 | if you haven't received the item,
or if you've received it, but it was
| | 04:46 | significantly not as described.
| | 04:48 | Once you select that, you'll click
Continue, and then you'll see that dispute in
| | 04:52 | the Resolution Center.
| | 04:54 | If an item has insufficient tracking,
usually a payment will be refunded to you,
| | 04:58 | because PayPal will go
ahead and find in your favor.
| | 05:01 | Please remember to check with a
neighbor in your neighborhood as many parcels
| | 05:05 | are dropped behind fences,
on porches, and with neighbors.
| | 05:09 | The seller is only responsible if he
or she failed to meet the terms of the
| | 05:13 | agreement; not for packages that
have been stolen of your porch.
| | 05:17 | Work with your seller before starting a
claim, and if you trade on eBay, request
| | 05:21 | their phone number, and be sure to
reach out to them by phone first.
