00:29like QuickBooks, and Outlook, so that you can create professional invoices, and
00:33receive payments promptly.

00:39even learning how to keep yourself safe and secure when using PayPal online.

1. Getting Started
Using PayPal
00:00PayPal is a powerful money transfer service that serves as a convenient and fast
00:05alternative to traditional cash, paper checks, and money orders.
00:09PayPal accounts come in a few different types, which I'll cover in another movie,
00:13and you'll have the ability to fund your PayPal account with an electronic debit
00:17from a bank account, a credit card, or a debit card.
00:20You can also receive money from other PayPal users, and then turn around and
00:24spend that money immediately.
00:27PayPal is often considered an eBay payment service, but millions of individuals
00:31and companies use PayPal everyday for settling all types of debts.
00:35There's a ton of ways to use PayPal, and I would never begin to cover every
00:39possibility in this movie, but let's explore some real world examples.
00:44Let's say you're sending your son to college, and he'd like to buy some college
00:47textbooks, but he's run out of cash.
00:50You can instantly transfer money to his PayPal account, and he'll have the
00:53funds in a few seconds.
00:55He can then turn around and use his PayPal debit card that's linked to this
00:59PayPal account, and buy those books from the college bookstore.
01:02Perhaps you've decided that you'd like to buy a new computer, and you have some
01:05money sitting in your PayPal account balance that you've received for some old
01:09antiques you've sold on eBay. You're browsing around on Walmart.com, and you find
01:14the perfect computer bundle with a monitor, a printer, and a keyboard, and a
01:18mouse; all the right things that you need just for the right price.
01:22You see the PayPal logo, and you realize that you have just enough money to buy
01:25that computer, so you add it to your shopping cart, and you pay for it
01:29immediately with those eBay auction proceeds.
01:32One fun Friday night, you're out with friends, and you realize you've left cash
01:36at home, and there's no ATM insight.
01:39Your co-workers suggest that you bump the funds using the smartphone money
01:43transfer feature on your PayPal iPhone app, and in seconds, you've sent her $50,
01:48and your fun continues well into the night.
01:51Another great example would be for your business. You've been after your best
01:56client to pay for an old invoice that's been lingering around for way to long,
02:00and he mentions that he's prepared to use a credit card, but alas, you don't
02:04have one of those expensive merchant accounts, and you aren't about to get one for this invoice.
02:09You suggest to him that you will send him a PayPal invoice through e-mail, and he
02:13can enter his credit card details, and pay for that invoice in a few minutes
02:17without ever having to sign up for a PayPal account.
02:20These are some of the very real and likely ways that PayPal can integrate
02:24into your daily life.
02:26You also have the ability to create payment buttons that can be added to
02:29your Web site for selling individual products, or receiving money for
02:33virtually any reason.
02:35Setting up a shopping cart integration is very simple for a programmer, so
02:38that you can sell online, and offer PayPal as a method of payment for your online store.
02:43You can subscribe to a virtual terminal, and then offer charge by phone, fax, or
02:48e-mail options to your clients and customers so that you'll have the same
02:52credit card processing capabilities that larger companies have, without
02:56investing one dime in equipment.
02:59You can create recurring subscriptions for your clients and customers so that
03:02monthly charges are automatically collected from their PayPal account without
03:06ever having to remember to bill them.
03:08You can also accept donations for your charity if you operate one.
03:12Your imagination is the only limitation here.
03:15PayPal is a super convenient cash alternative for many situations.
03:20If you have a programmer, or you are one yourself, you can accomplish many more
03:24cool tricks with PayPal, and integrate it into your applications.
03:28For those of us who don't write code, you'll find yourself using PayPal to send
03:32and receive money to everyone you know.

Types of accounts
00:00PayPal offers different account types for different types of people.
00:04I'll discuss each of the PayPal account types, and why you'd use that particular
00:08account type for your personal or business activities.
00:11To find the account types, you can click on the Sign Up link, right here on the
00:14PayPal Web site, and you'll be presented with the three main account types.
00:19Let's first talk about Personal Accounts.
00:22PayPal offers a Personal Account for individuals who shop online.
00:26A Personal Account allows you to send money to individuals and businesses using
00:30their e-mail address.
00:31A Personal Account allows you to receive payments from others, but the fees
00:35would be higher than with the other account types that I'll cover here.
00:39A Personal Account would be ideal for someone who might wish to settle a private
00:43debt, such as splitting a dinner check, paying rent, or any one of a multitude
00:47of other reasons that you might need to pay someone.
00:50By adding a credit or debit card, or using a bank account, you'll be able to add
00:54funds to your PayPal balance that you can then turn around and spend.
00:58A Premier Account is designed for online sellers who are non-businesses, and when
01:02you want to be paid online, and make online purchases.
01:06This account also permits you to receive payments from buyers who wish to be
01:09paid with a credit or a debit card, but who don't already have a PayPal account.
01:14You can also use a PayPal Debit Card to spend your money, and PayPal offers you
01:18a large variety of merchant services to enhance the payment process for your business.
01:24You'd use this account type if you were not trading under a business name, but
01:27that you use PayPal for a business of any size.
01:30A Business Account has all the same features as a Premier Account, but it
01:34permits you to trade under a company name.
01:37If you do business under a name other than your personal name, this is going to
01:41be the account type you'll want to set up.
01:43Generally speaking, you'll need to be an officer, or have written authorization
01:47from the company to set up a business account.
01:49For example, if you're a volunteer for a local foundation, you probably wouldn't
01:54have the authority to set up a PayPal account for that charity, but if you're
01:58the president, the vice president, the treasurer, or secretary, or even a sole
02:03proprietor doing business under a fictitious business name, then it would be
02:07appropriate to set up a Business Account.
02:09A big plus for Business Accounts is the capability of adding up to 200 employees
02:14to your account with various levels of authority to manage your account for you.
02:19A Student Account is not a separate account, and it's actually a sub-account
02:23for a parent who would like to provide a teen or child with the ability to
02:26receive money through PayPal, and then spend that money using a PayPal Student Debit Card.
02:31The Student Account acts like a Premier Account, but the parent controls the
02:34account, the funding to that account, and the access to it.
02:37PayPal also offers a little known Micropayments Account for businesses that
02:41receive a very, very large volume of small payments.
02:45If your business typically receives a lot of payments under $10 each, you'll
02:50want to ask a PayPal representative about this type of account.
02:53The fees are reduced, and you'll pay 5% plus 5 cents per transaction.
02:59The way that the fees are reduced is that the transaction fee is lower than it
03:03is with a standard account, although the percentage is slightly higher.
03:06So for smaller payments, you'll pay less in the end.
03:09PayPal has account types that match your situation.
03:12In case you're wondering how many accounts you're allowed to have, PayPal's
03:16policy states that you may only have one Personal Account, and one Premier or
03:20Business Account at one time.
03:22Each account must have a unique e-mail address associated with it, and unique
03:27financial information.
03:28You can upgrade an account at any time by clicking on this link right over here.

How PayPal protects buyers and sellers
00:00PayPal offers comprehensive buyer and seller protections to ensure safe exchange
00:04of money across their network.
00:06To learn more about this, go to the Security and Protection link over here at
00:10the top of any PayPal page.
00:13You can then scroll down and see the tabs about how we've got you covered.
00:18For buyers, PayPal offers zero liability for eligible unauthorized transactions, and
00:23PayPal monitors your account with sophisticated software to ensure that
00:26suspicious activity is stopped, and you are notified about it.
00:30When buying items online through eBay or eCommerce sites, PayPal will allow you
00:34to file a claim against a seller if the item never arrives, or if the item you
00:39receive is substantially not the same as was advertised.
00:42A special dispute resolution procedure allows you open a case with PayPal, and
00:47then you and the seller can formally resolve the issue.
00:50You can do that by going to the History link, and taking a look for a transaction
00:55for something you have purchased.
00:56You click on the Details.
01:00You take the Transaction ID number.
01:04Then you click on the Resolution Center, and you can report a problem.
01:09The case must be opened within 45 days of the date you made payment, and you have
01:1420 days to work it out with the seller from that date.
01:17You may escalate a case to be reviewed by PayPal management, and if you don't do
01:21so within 20 days of opening that case, PayPal will automatically close it.
01:25Let's go back to the Security and Protection section and talk a little bit
01:30about seller protection.
01:32For US sellers, PayPal offers fraud protection on eligible transactions when you
01:38ship the merchandise to the address listed on the transaction's details page,
01:43and if you're not selling an item on eBay, you're sure to ship that item to
01:46a confirmed address.
01:48Let me show you what that looks like.
01:52Go ahead and click on the Details page, and you'll see right there that there is
01:56a confirmed address.
01:57As long as I ship to that address, I'll receive protection.
02:00You'll also need to ship within 7 calendar days of being paid by the person
02:03buying from you, and you need to keep proof of shipment in the form of a tracking
02:08number that can be traced online.
02:10For any transactions over $250, you also need to obtain signature
02:15confirmation of delivery.
02:16You will be covered for tangible goods only when the payment page on PayPal
02:20states that the transaction is eligible for seller protection, but you won't be
02:25covered if the item is picked up and the buyer later disputes it, you sell
02:29digital goods, you receive multiple payments for the same item, or if the buyer
02:35files a claim with PayPal that the item is not as described.
02:38For example, if you sell a black t- shirt, and the buyer receives a red one, and
02:42then later complains to PayPal about it.
02:44In my personal experience, the overwhelming number of transactions that take
02:48place on PayPal go without any hitch at all.
02:51On the rare occasion that you order a diamond, and a cubic zirconia arrives,
02:55PayPal offers tools to work it out between the parties.

Fees
00:00PayPal is free to buyers, and generally the seller pays the fees to use the service.
00:05There are nominal fees that are in line with what you would expect to find at
00:08most banks through their credit card and eCheck programs.
00:12PayPal is superior in that you never have to pay a monthly fee unless you use
00:16one of the enhanced business services that they offer.
00:20The rates depend upon the volume you're doing, and the type of transaction,
00:23whether it's domestic or international, and the type of account you have set up with PayPal.
00:28The nice thing about PayPal is that you will never have to pay a fee unless you
00:32are actually using the service.
00:34Let's go ahead over to the PayPal site, and we will take a look at how the fees work.
00:39To learn more about fees, scroll to the bottom of any PayPal page, and click
00:43on the link for Fees.
00:45For purchases, the seller pays between 1.9%, and 2.9%, plus $0.30 per transaction.
00:53Here is a link that takes you over to a more detailed page that shows you
00:57more about the services.
00:58There are no monthly fees, there are no set-up fees, and there are no gateway
01:03fees, so you don't have to pay for an expensive terminal.
01:06Now, the lowest fee that's available, you can find over here, if you click on
01:11this link for PayPal for business.
01:13In this section, you can see what the discounts are if you start to increase you
01:17volume above $3,000 a month.
01:20The lowest discount available is for merchants who sell more than a $100,000 a
01:24month, and that may be in your future very soon.
01:29Cross-border rates are a little bit higher.
01:31You can learn more about those by clicking on the link here.
01:35A cross-border transaction is defined as receiving payment from someone who is
01:39outside the United States.
01:42If you would like to transfer money to a friend or a family member for personal
01:45reasons, the Personal Transfer option will be totally free if that money comes
01:50directly from your PayPal balance, or a bank account.
01:54The cost will be 2.9%, plus $0.30 per transaction, if that comes from a debit or a
02:00credit card, or is sent to someone who has a PayPal registered address overseas.
02:05And at that point, you can decide if you will pay the fee, or the person
02:08receiving the money pays it.
02:10I find that paying vendors and friends is quick and easy, and I almost always
02:14elect to pay the small transfer fee myself.
02:17What's a good selling point for PayPal in your business is that it's popular.
02:21So many, if not most, of your customers are going to have a PayPal account.
02:26I can assure you from personal experience that setting up a bank merchant
02:29account has a lot of costs associated with it.
02:32The machine that you have to buy in order to accept cards can cost many hundreds
02:37of dollars, and there are always monthly fees associated with it.
02:40You will never incur any of these fees to set up a PayPal account.

Setting up an account
00:00PayPal users can send and receive money for virtually anything, to anyone, anywhere.
00:06But we will be setting up our PayPal account with an emphasis on selling.
00:10So what we are going to want to do is set up a Premier or a Business
00:13account, because personal accounts are geared for personal transfers, and for making purchases.
00:19Don't get too confused by all the options on the site. You can explore those
00:23later on after you become more familiar with all of PayPal's various uses.
00:27To register a new account, go to to the New To PayPal option, and click Sign Up.
00:31Here, you will be presented with three options;
00:34you can set up a Personal, Premier, or a Business account.
00:37We are going to be setting up a Premier account, so I am going to click here
00:40where it says Get Started.
00:42Since we will be buying and selling, we will need a Premier, or a Business account.
00:46Now, go ahead and fill in your information.
00:48First, fill in your e-mail address, then select a password.
00:52Your password must have at least eight characters, and you should never use your
00:56name or e-mail address.
00:58Be sure to use a mixture of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
01:02And be sure your password is easy for you to remember, but is hard for
01:06someone else to guess.
01:07PayPal will indicate if your password is strong or weak, and it will give you
01:11three green bars if you've got a good thumbs-up green light to go ahead.
01:15Then enter you legal first name.
01:18You should not use your nickname, and you can't use a pseudo-name or a fake name here.
01:22It is very important that you put in correct and accurate information in the
01:25PayPal system, because it is a financial system, and PayPal will not allow you to
01:30use bogus information here.
01:31Go ahead and enter your date of birth, then put in your address. Scroll down,
01:36then put in your zip code, and then your city.
01:39Then select your State.
01:40Now, you need to enter your telephone number.
01:43You can read over the User Agreement, Privacy Policy, Acceptable Use Policy, and
01:48Electronic Communications Delivery Policy if you wish.
01:51To read these documents, you can click on the hotlink right here.
01:55If you like, you can print the agreements, or you can download them to your
01:58computer for later review.
02:00Once you are done, go ahead and close the tab, and go back to selecting this
02:05checkbox, which says that you've agreed to all of these agreements.
02:10Then click Agree and create account.
02:12Now, at this point PayPal is asking if you want to add a bank account, or a
02:16credit or debit card.
02:18You can do that if you wish, but we are going to be talking about that in a later movie.
02:22You may also receive an e-mail from PayPal asking you to activate your account.
02:26This shows that you have control over that e-mail address, and that you are a real person.
02:31Now, once you have verified all your information, and you have logged in to your
02:35PayPal account, you can go ahead and browse around, and take a look at all the
02:39features that PayPal has to offer.
02:41You can explore the site and discover all these valuable features by going
02:44through the different hotlinks, or you can use the help system, or you can use the
02:49links at the bottom of the page.
02:52If at anytime you want to update account information, add, or remove a debit
02:56card, credit card, or checking account, maybe add additional e-mail addresses
03:00to receive payments, or make any changes to your PayPal profile, you can always
03:05click on the Profile option here, and select the appropriate link to make those changes.
03:11Since setting up a PayPal business account is virtually the same as in this
03:15movie, I don't feel you need a whole another video to show you the ropes.
03:18You can simply follow the same procedure, and go and register your business
03:22using the instructions that are provided on the link.
03:25Now, I still need to show you how to add a debit card and bank account to your
03:29profile, so that you can become a PayPal verified member.
03:32There are some significant benefits to becoming verified, which we are going to
03:36discover further along in this course.

Associating payment types with your account
00:00A verified seller is someone who has provided additional evidence of their
00:04identity to PayPal by passing some security checks, and completing the PayPal
00:09verification process.
00:11Buyers generally prefer to do business with a verified member of the
00:14PayPal community, because that buyer can feel more confident doing business
00:19with you, because verified members are consistently considered trustworthy,
00:23legitimate merchants.
00:24First of all, let's sign in.
00:26This is what the new user ID and password that we've just created.
00:32Since this is the very first time I've logged in to this account, PayPal now
00:36asks me to update some security questions in case I ever need to recover my
00:40password, or speak to an agent about my account.
00:45Once you're done, click Submit.
00:48When you first open your PayPal account, there's going to be a limit on how much
00:52money that you can send.
00:54You can click here, View Limits, and learn more about that.
00:57At the moment, there are limits on the account, because I'm not yet a verified
01:01member of the PayPal community.
01:03Verification is free of charge to you.
01:06Now, for a U.S. PayPal user, verification means that you've either added and
01:11confirmed a bank account, or you've received approval for a PayPal Plus Credit Card.
01:17The bank account is usually the most common way to become verified.
01:20I recommend that you add a bank account at this point, because you'll want to
01:23be able to transfer your PayPal payments from your buyers into your Checking Account.
01:28You can always add a debit or credit card too, so that if you decide to buy
01:32something online, you can select that card for your method of payment.
01:36Go ahead and click on the Profile link, and then you'll see here that you can go
01:40ahead and add a bank account.
01:42We're going to go ahead and do that now.
01:44Now, you need to indicate whether this bank account is a checking or a savings account.
01:47In this case, I'm using a checking account. And at the bottom of one of your
01:51checks, you'll find a routing number.
01:53That's the first number that you'll need to enter. Then enter the account number.
01:57Now, the system automatically recognizes the routing number, and indicates
02:01what bank you're with, so that it helps you to confirm that you've entered it correctly.
02:05This bank account will become the default payment method for any time you make a
02:09purchase on your PayPal account.
02:11You can always change that later, but this is something to keep in mind, just in
02:15case you're buying something.
02:16Then go ahead and click Continue.
02:18Now, there are a couple of options here.
02:21You have the ability to instantly confirm your account, which is you enter in
02:26your bank's online ID and secured password.
02:28That is the one you set up with your bank. Or, you can make two tiny deposits
02:33into your bank account, which you can then confirm online at your bank, and then
02:37enter them into the PayPal system.
02:39Once you do that, which takes a couple of days, you can go ahead and confirm
02:43your PayPal account.
02:44I'm going to go ahead and try to confirm this instantly.
02:47So what I'll do is I'll go ahead and type in the information right now.
02:50Then I'm going to click Confirm Instantly.
02:54Now I have successfully confirmed and linked my bank account to my PayPal account.
02:59Now I have the ability to pay with this bank account instantly, without exposing
03:03any of my financial information.
03:06I can go ahead and fund my PayPal account if I want to send money to someone else.
03:10I can also retrieve funds from people who've paid me as a seller, and put them
03:15into my bank account.
03:16Now I'm going to click Continue.
03:18Now you see here in the bank account summary that that account has been linked
03:22to my PayPal account.
03:24I can add additional bank accounts here, or I can go back to my Profile, and I
03:28can go ahead and add a credit or a debit card.
03:31Now, if at any time you want to update this information, add, or delete a
03:35debit or a credit card, or a checking account, you can always return back to the Profile link.
03:40I'm going to go ahead and proceed to add a credit card right now.
03:44The system already recognizes my first name and enters it.
03:47Then I can select the card type.
03:50Once I do that, I'll want to enter the card number, then the expiration date, and
03:55then the 3-digit code from the back of the card.
03:57Scroll down and confirm the billing address.
04:01If the address that you're using with PayPal isn't the exact same address
04:05that's associated with your debit or credit card, go ahead and enter a new address there.
04:10Now click Add Card.
04:13I have now successfully added my Visa card, which is a Visa debit card, to my PayPal account.
04:19Now, at this point, I can go ahead and start using this account to send and receive funds.
04:25Now, I'm going to go ahead and click over here to My Account, and you can see my
04:29status has now changed to that of being verified.
04:32I'm going to click on the View Limits option, and you can now see that my sending
04:37limit has been lifted.
04:39We've now completed the process of adding our financial information, and we're
04:43ready to get into many more aspects of using our PayPal account, including buying
04:47and selling, but also learning about mobile payments, and features that are
04:51available to you through PayPal.

Finding help
00:00Sometimes you'll need help when you're on PayPal, and there are a lot of
00:04different resources available to you, so that you can get the help you need, when you need it.
00:09To get assistance with PayPal, there's a Help link, and you'll also see a Contact Us link.
00:13I'm going to go ahead and click on the Help link.
00:16You'll find the Help link at the top of every PayPal page, and then you can look
00:20here at the very top and enter a question.
00:22You can go ahead and type in a specific question that you might have, such as you
00:25didn't receive an item, and you want to know what to do about it.
00:29You can go ahead and enter a specific question in plain English, and then click Search.
00:34Now, PayPal will present you with different subjects, and articles that you can
00:37read about the issue, and you can go ahead and click on the one that appears to
00:42be most relevant to what you're looking for.
00:45Then you get an answer.
00:46Now, in this case, PayPal says to resolve this problem, you can go ahead and
00:50click on the Resolution Center near the top of the page, and you can go ahead and
00:53click Report a Problem.
00:54Now, I'm going to go ahead and scroll through here, and click on Contact us.
01:00You'll be brought back to the same page, and you can also select topics.
01:04So you can browse through specific topics, and you can look at the subtopics.
01:09Each of these tabs has different topics and subtopics that might be relevant to your question.
01:13Then I'm going to scroll down and look in section 2 for quick answers.
01:18Now, you can click here, and see a list of the most frequently asked
01:21questions and answers. Learn how to send money, how to receive money, how
01:25to dispute an item,
01:26so the answer to my question would most likely be Open a Dispute, right here.
01:30We can also get assistance from the automated help assistant called Sarah.
01:34I'm going to go ahead and click here, and I'll scroll down, and you can go ahead
01:39and ask a specific question.
01:41Now, what you'll find about Sarah is that she's geared to answer specific
01:47questions about specific keywords.
01:49In this case, I didn't get the answer to my question, but if I had asked something
01:53like, Tell me about fees for using PayPal, what would happen is that Sarah
01:59would key on the word fees, and present you with an article about that specific subject.
02:04So Sarah is not necessarily the right solution for every question.
02:08You also have the ability to go to the Community Boards, and ask the community.
02:13So if you purchased something on eBay, and you haven't received it yet, and you
02:16used PayPal to pay it, you can go ahead and create a profile on a Community Board,
02:21and post a question.
02:22So I'm going to go ahead and do that now to show you as an example.
02:27Then I can go ahead and post a topic.
02:28I'll need to give my topic a title.
02:32Then I'll scroll down, and post the question.
02:42Now, you'll notice that based on the title that I put on my thread, or my
02:46posting, other people have posted similar questions, and received answers to them
02:51already, and you'll see that here at the top before you enter your message.
02:55If the solution you're looking for is there, you can go ahead and just read that
02:58solution, and you don't need to make the posting.
03:01You can put some optional tags, and you can then go ahead and submit.
03:05If you want to be notified when someone else responds to your posting, you're
03:09going to want to check that box there, and click the Submit button.
03:13Now, your posting will appear. It's right here.
03:15You can click on it and see it.
03:19Now, if I want to, I can go ahead and select some of these other options if I'd like to.
03:25I can go ahead and unsubscribe this post, and then it will be taken off.
03:29Now, additional help is available here, or you can call PayPal if you want
03:33to click on this link.
03:34You'll be given a Web PIN, which is the way to authenticate yourself when you
03:37call in, and a customer support agent will be able to help you.
03:41If you'd like to, you can also e-mail PayPal; click here, and you can e-mail a
03:46question that you might have.
03:47You first have to select a topic, which is, in this case, I didn't receive my item.
03:50I want to ask about creating a dispute.
03:53Then, you can choose a subtopic, which is Buyer Complaints, and if you already
03:57have a case or claim number, you can enter it there, and then you type some text here.
04:02Once you're done, you'll be able to go ahead and click on the Submit button, and
04:08then someone will reply to your e-mail shortly.
04:10Speaking candidly, PayPal is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it.
04:15The most likely reasons you'd want help is that you may have a concern about a
04:18specific transaction, or you need assistance with more complex matters, like
04:23merchant tools, or Web integration.

2. Paying
Paying for eBay purchases
00:00One of the most common ways to use PayPal is the payment of items
00:03you've purchased on eBay.
00:05PayPal developed its roots within the eBay community, and therefore is
00:08synonymous with eBay trading.
00:11I'll show you how to make a purchase, and pay for it with PayPal.
00:14The first step is to find something to buy.
00:17So I'm going to go ahead and search for an item that I'm interested in buying.
00:19I need a new belt, and I need a genuine leather belt, so I'll put in genuine leather.
00:25I know the word genuine is oftentimes a keyword in people's titles.
00:29Then I'm going to go ahead and type in charcoal, because I like the color
00:33charcoal, and let's go ahead and see how many listings there are available.
00:37So, I've found what I'm interested in, and I go ahead and select it.
00:40I want one with a silver buckle; not a gold one, and then I'll pick the Size.
00:44Now, I'm a pretty big boy, so I'll put in 48, because that's how big my waist is.
00:49Then I'll put in the quantity that I want, and I'll go ahead and click Buy It Now.
00:54Now, you'll need to be signed in.
00:56Remember, your PayPal and eBay user IDs are different, so you'll be signing in
01:00with your eBay User ID.
01:03My eBay User ID here, then I'll go ahead and click Sign In.
01:08Then I'll go ahead and review the total, and Commit to Buy. Okay.
01:16Now, at this point, I'm presented with a pay now option.
01:20Normally, you jump right in and pay for the item with PayPal, but I'll show
01:23you another option.
01:24So sometimes, maybe you're not sure if you have enough money in your PayPal
01:27account, and maybe you're not ready to make the payment, you can go ahead and
01:31Commit to Buy, and then come back to it later.
01:34This transaction is neatly parked in your My eBay.
01:37This is a link you'll see at the top of the page.
01:39So if I go to My eBay, Purchase History, I can see a list of the items that I've
01:44purchased, and they're ready to be paid.
01:46So I can go ahead at this point and see that this item has not been paid for,
01:50because the icon here, Paid or not, is not black.
01:54If I go ahead and click Pay now, I'll then be able to review my shipping
01:58address, I can change my address if I want to, and then I can scroll down, and I
02:04can go ahead and add any sort of gift card that I might have, or a certificate, or
02:08coupon. I can review my total, and then I can click Continue with PayPal.
02:13Now, at this point, I'll need to put in my PayPal e-mail, and password.
02:19You can also use Bill Me Later, and if you don't have a PayPal account, you can
02:23use a credit or a debit card here at the bottom.
02:26Then I'm going to click Log In.
02:29Since eBay and PayPal are integrated, you'll now be able to see the banking
02:34information that we've entered, and it'll confirm that you're going to be paying
02:37for this transaction using the checking account.
02:40Now I'm going to go ahead and click Continue.
02:43Now I need to confirm the payment.
02:45So I'm going to review one last time all the information that I've entered, and
02:49I'll go ahead and scroll down to do that, and then I can click Confirm payment.
02:55Now, that's a bingo.
02:57Now, at this point, I'm being reminded by the system that this purchase is
03:01covered by eBay Buyer Protection, so I know I'm trading safely and securely on the site.
03:06Within a short period of time, the belt will arrive, and most likely, the seller
03:10will notify me with a tracking number, or delivery confirmation number, that the
03:14belt has been shipped.
03:15If I want to see the status of this listing, I can go to My eBay, and Purchase
03:19History, and I can take a look at it there.
03:22Now I can see that this item has been paid for; you can see that this has
03:26turned blue, and that indicates that the payment has been made.
03:29This smooth integration between eBay and PayPal makes the entire process so much
03:34faster than using paper checks that are so last century.

Using the Send Money option
00:00The Send Money tab is one of the most commonly used features in PayPal.
00:04If you aren't glued to eBay all day, you'll be using this tab quite often to
00:08send payments to buy things, settle personal debts, make micropayments to
00:13friends and family, or use PayPal for a variety of other purposes.
00:17First of all, you'll need to be signed into the system, then click on the blue
00:21link which says Send Money, right here.
00:25You'll see three submenu options.
00:27The first one is the one that we'll be using to send money using an e-mail address.
00:31So I'll go ahead and enter the e-mail address here.
00:40Then I'll enter an amount.
00:42Then select the currency. There's 24 different options that you can select here.
00:46You can select in one of these currencies.
00:48In this case, I'll be using U.S. Dollars.
00:51Then indicate what the purchase is for: Goods, Services, or eBay Items,
00:56then click Continue.
00:59In the next page, you'll want to go ahead and review your payment information.
01:03You can add coupons or gift certificates at this point, if you happened to
01:06have one, and I'm going to go ahead and scroll down, and show you how to change
01:11the method of payment.
01:13Since we have both a bank account, and we have a debit card associated with this
01:17PayPal account, I can switch back and forth between them.
01:21If I'd like to use the bank account, I'm going to go ahead and switch this,
01:24because the default is to use the debit card, so I'll click Change.
01:28Now, in the next screen, I can select eCheck, or I can switch back to
01:33the credit or debit Card.
01:35In this case, I want to use an electronic check, and have the money debited like
01:39a virtual check from my bank account.
01:41If I have more than one bank account assigned to this account on PayPal, I can
01:45go ahead and select which one I'm going to use, and then I can click Continue.
01:48Now you'll see here that the method of payment has been switched to my bank account.
01:53Now I can scroll down and enter a subject for the e-mail that will be received
01:56by the person getting this payment, and then I can enter a personalized message.
02:03Once you're done, you can click the button at the bottom that says Send Money.
02:07If you expect to be sending multiple payments to the same person, you can now
02:11add them to your contact address book.
02:14Once you do this, it'll make it a lot easier to send that person payments
02:17again in the future.
02:18Once you confirm the payment, the recipient will receive an e-mail, and if you're
02:22using a PayPal balance transfer, or a credit or debit card, the payment will be
02:27available immediately to the other person.
02:29Then they can log in to their PayPal account and use the money right away.
02:33With the electronic check that I just sent, there will be a little bit of time
02:36to clear that check, so the other person may need to wait a couple of days before
02:40the funds become available.
02:41In most cases, the process occurs simultaneously, because you'll be using your
02:45PayPal balance, or your credit card.

Making personal transfers
00:00Okay, so it makes total sense to me that PayPal should get a small cut of my
00:04business activities, because accepting payments at my various companies requires
00:09a bank merchant account, which involves a little bit of bank fees to receive
00:13credit card payments.
00:14There are times when I want to send someone money, and I really don't feel PayPal
00:18deserves a fee for essentially repaying a private loan, or sending a payment to
00:23someone I know for something of a personal nature.
00:25PayPal recognizes that a personal transfer should be free, and they offer a
00:29special tab for that purpose.
00:31I'm going to walk you through a couple of scenarios, and I'll show you how they work.
00:35The first one is using the Send Money tab to send a personal payment transfer to
00:40someone in the United States.
00:42So I click Send Money, and I'll type in the e-mail address of the person that I'd
00:46like to send money to.
00:49I see here that they've already received money from me in the past, so I'll
00:52select their e-mail address, and then I'll go ahead and put in a dollar amount.
01:00Now, instead of using Purchase, I'm going to use Personal.
01:04Then I'm going to indicate that this is a payment that's owed.
01:07I can select Gift, Payment owed, Cash Advance, but bear in mind if you use Cash
01:11Advance, and you fund it with a credit or debit card, your bank that issues that
01:16debit or credit card may charge you additional fees for a cash advance.
01:19So I'm going to go ahead and click this option, and then click Continue.
01:24Now, you'll notice that there is a fee for sending this payment.
01:27The reason that there's a fee for sending this payment is because I'm using a
01:31debit card to fund the transaction.
01:33I'm going to go ahead and change this.
01:35First, I'll scroll down, then I'll click Change Payment Method right here, then
01:40you can select the eCheck option.
01:43Once you select the eCheck option, click Continue.
01:45And you'll see that the fee has now been removed off of the transaction.
01:50I'm going to scroll down.
01:51You can optionally enter a subject line, and a message, so I'm going to go ahead
01:55and click Send Money now.
01:59Now, that personal transfer was completely free.
02:02If I'm going to send a personal transfer to someone out of the country, there'll
02:05be a small transaction fee.
02:07I'm going to click Send Money.
02:10Then I'm going to enter an e-mail address of someone I know has a PayPal account,
02:14and also is out of the country.
02:15So I'll go ahead and start by clicking in here, and then typing in their address.
02:23Then I'll type in a dollar amount, and then I'll click the Personal Transfer tab
02:29and I'm going to keep this as a gift, and then I'll click Continue.
02:32Now, in this screen, you'll see that there is a fee being charged.
02:36Now, I'm going to go ahead and scroll down to show you that you can see here, the
02:40bank account is still being used to fund the transfer, but there will be a $0.05
02:44fee on this transfer.
02:46If I want to, I can bill that fee back to the person receiving the money, and
02:51they'll receive, instead of $10.00, they'll get $9.95.
02:55I'm going to go ahead and pay the $0.05 fee, and then I'm going to go ahead
02:58and enter in a message.
03:00Once you're done entering the message, you can click Send Money, and then $10.05
03:04will be charged to my bank account, which includes the $0.05 fee.
03:09So this little subtlety here is that you've now sent two types of payments;
03:13you've sent one to someone on a personal transfer, which is totally free, using
03:17a checking account.
03:18There would have been a fee if I used a credit or a debit card. And then also, I
03:22sent an overseas payment on a personal transfer, which had a very small fee, and
03:27it was sent personally, but it had a small transaction fee as well.
03:30Personal transfer is a convenient way to send virtual cash to anyone, and can
03:35eventually serve to replace cash or checks for your personal payments entirely.
03:39So, between your friends, your colleagues, and family members who have PayPal
03:43accounts, this is a fast and easy way to get money to them.

Understanding recurring payments and billing agreements
00:00Some merchants and organizations allow you to make recurring payments.
00:04This means if you set up a billing agreement with someone, such as a gym which
00:07may have a monthly service charge, or a charity that asks you to make an annual
00:12pledge, so long as that billing agreement is in place, your account will be
00:16debited the agreed upon amount on the frequency you've agreed to.
00:20So let me show you how this works.
00:22It's like a contract, actually.
00:24So let's go ahead and take a look at a real world example.
00:27I'm a member of the Hollywood high school alumnus, so I graduated in 1987, and I
00:33pay me annual dues through the Webvsite.
00:35Well, how you can do this on a frequency of once a year is, since they have set
00:39up a recurring billing agreement with PayPal,
00:42I can go over to the donations page, and click the Link that offers me the option
00:47to make my Annual Dues Pledge right here.
00:50So, when I click on that Link, you'll see that a page will show up, which
00:53allows me to go ahead and enter in my PayPal information, and agree to a $20.00
00:58per year donation.
01:01So it's important to note that $20.00 will be charged automatically every
01:05year, at the same time each year, until I cancel that billing agreement.
01:08So, the first thing I'm going to do is put in my PayPal information.
01:12In this case, I'll type in my PayPal e-mail address, and my password, and then I'll click Log In.
01:20Once you've done that, you can review the agreement, which says that I'll be
01:24billed on an annual basis. And it says here, all future payments will be made
01:27with your default payment method, unless you select a preferred payment method.
01:32So, once I've gone ahead through this part of the agreement, I'll go ahead and
01:35click Agree and Pay.
01:37$20.00 will be taken out of my PayPal account immediately, and then
01:41exactly one year from today, I'll go ahead and have another charge taken out
01:46of my account as well.
01:47You always have control over pre- approved payment agreements, and you can
01:51initiate or cancel subscriptions, automatically billed payments, and installment plans.
01:57Be sure that when you accept any payment request from another person or company
02:01that you read the details when you go to pay, and ensure that you're aware of
02:04what you're getting yourself into.
02:07When in doubt, you can always return to the Profile option, and see the
02:10preapproved payment section to review them.
02:11So I'm going to go and click here, and go to my account overview.
02:16I'll click on my Profile.
02:18I'll go to More Options.
02:19Then I'm going to click on My Money.
02:23Then I can see the My preapproved payments.
02:27Then I'll click Update.
02:30Here, I'll see a list of all the preapproved payments, and if I want to cancel an
02:34agreement I've made, I can simply click on the link, and then I can click Cancel.
02:43Now, at this point, the Profile has been cancelled.
02:45It will not be charging me again in a year.
02:48Reccurring payments are very convenient, and an easy way to keep track of paying
02:52people on a periodic basis without having to remember it.
02:56It's very, very handy, and a great way to use your PayPal account.

Paying on other sites
00:00With most major companies now offering PayPal as a method of payment at
00:04their Web sites, you'll appreciate the opportunity to use this secure method of payment.
00:09Some sites permit you to simply pay with PayPal quickly, and that requires no
00:14registration, such as Buy.com.
00:16Other sites, such as Walmart.com, will actually suggest that you register on their
00:20site, and then go ahead and log in before using PayPal.
00:24Some sites offer guest checkout; Walmart.com is one of them.
00:28However, they will also ask you to enter additional information during the
00:32transaction, which can be avoided when you're using a site that is fully
00:35integrated with PayPal Checkout.
00:37That's called Express Checkout.
00:39Since I'm a huge fan of both companies, I don't mind registering on Walmart.com,
00:44but when you use a site like Buy.com, your payment and shipping information is
00:48automatically transferred to the merchant's site using the PayPal API, which is
00:53short for Application Programming Interface.
00:56This avoids the need for you to both sign in to PayPal, and make a separate user
01:00account on the merchant's site.
01:01This quickly speeds up the checkout and the payment process.
01:05I'm going to go ahead and show you an actual purchase that I'm going to make on
01:09the Buy.com Web site.
01:10So the first step is to find something you'd like to purchase.
01:13So I'm going to go ahead and type in here that I'm looking for a fabric steamer.
01:19That helps to make my clothes ironed, without having to iron them.
01:22A steamer is a quicker way to iron clothing. And then I find one that I'm
01:25interested in, which is the SteamFast, and I'll click on there.
01:30Then you'll see here that Buy.com offers you a total of $34.99. plus $9.42
01:36shipping; they give you a total there.
01:38And it says that it ships from the merchant TigerDirect, and it's got a pretty
01:42good rating: 4 1/2 stars out of 5. And then I'm going to add it to my cart.
01:47Now, once that's done, I can click Checkout, and I'm going to go ahead and proceed
01:54to the Checkout screen, right here.
01:57Now, you could scroll down and immediately use PayPal as a method of checkout.
02:03Once you do that, you'll need to sign in to your PayPal account, then click Log In.
02:12Then you'll see your shipping address information, and the method of payment that
02:16you'll be using to purchase the item.
02:18Confirm all the information, then click Continue.
02:22Now you can confirm the entire order, and then click on Place Your Order.
02:28The order has been placed, and the item will be shipped.
02:31That was very fast.
02:32You'll notice that I didn't have to register or add any additional
02:36information to this Web site.
02:38I'm going to go ahead and do the same process on Walmart.com, and I'm going to
02:43purchase something that I need there too.
02:45I need MACH3 disposable razors.
02:47That's the type of razor that I use.
02:50When I type in MACH3, I'll go ahead and find the list of MACH3 razors, and I'll
02:54find the one I'm interested in.
03:00Here it is: MACH3 disposable, 3 count, 2pack -- that's 6 razors -- and then I'll add it to my cart.
03:06Then I'll go to the cart and check out.
03:10Then I go ahead and proceed to checkout.
03:12Now, you'll see that Walmart actually asks me if I want to sign in, because I
03:17might be a returning customer, or do I want to create an account, or just
03:21continue as a guest.
03:23Now, you'll see that they ask for additional information.
03:25Now, unlike Buy.com, which didn't ask me any information --
03:29it retrieved all the information off of my PayPal account --
03:32you'll see that they're asking to collect some additional information, probably
03:36because they want to do some marketing to me.
03:38Well I'll go ahead and play along, and I'll put in my information here.
03:41Then I click Continue.
03:48I have to enter my shipping address information here.
03:51I didn't have to do that with the Buy.com checkout.
04:05Then I confirm that my billing address is the same as the shipping address.
04:10Then I'll see my total of my order, with shipping.
04:12I have some shipping options here that I can go ahead and put on there.
04:15You'll notice that rush shipping and standard shipping cost the same, so I'll go
04:19ahead and select Rush Shipping.
04:20Then I click Continue.
04:23Now at this point, I have to select my method of payment, which will be PayPal,
04:28then I click Proceed to PayPal.
04:30I'll go ahead and put my password in.
04:31Then I click Login.
04:38I'll review all the information, and then I'll click Continue.
04:42Then I'll click Place My Order.
04:46Now the order has been placed.
04:48You'll notice that Walmart really wants me to register for their Web site.
04:52I don't why; probably because they want to send me marketing messages
04:55throughout the year.
04:56Buy.com, on the other hand, had a very short checkout process.
05:00I really prefer the checkout process for the Buy.com site, but because I'm
05:05a really loyal Walmart customer, I continue to buy things on their Web site as well.
05:10Some sites, like Walmart.com, offer additional benefits for registered users, such
05:15as the ability to rent movies, or do other things with your login.
05:18Many sites want customers to be able to checkout quicker, and avoid the
05:22additional registration, such as Buy. com, and like me, you may find yourself
05:27looking at those sites that are easier to use, and faster to checkout on, because
05:31it's more convenient, and you get in and out quicker.

Adding shipping addresses to your account
00:00There will be times when you want to ship something to a friend or a family
00:04member, such as for a birthday, or perhaps to your boss if it's Christmas time, and
00:09maybe you're shopping for presents, and you want to be able to add third party
00:12addresses to your PayPal account, so that you can use them when ordering online
00:16through eBay and other merchant e-commerce Web sites.
00:20The process is very simple, and I'll show you how it's done.
00:23First, you need to be logged into your PayPal account. Then click on the
00:27Profile link over here.
00:28Then you'll see a submenu, which allows you to add or edit street addresses, and
00:33you'll click that right there, and you'll see a list of the street addresses that
00:37are already associated with your PayPal account.
00:39To add a new one, simply click Add.
00:42Then go ahead and put that information in here.
00:44Put your City, State, and ZIP in there.
00:57If you've got a debit or a credit card on file that you'd like to associate with
01:01this address, in other words, when you go to pay for something and ship it to
01:05this address, it automatically associates that card with this address,
01:09you can click on this option right here, then click Save.
01:13Then you'll see the address has been added here on the profile.
01:17If you'd like to remove that address, or edit it, you can click here.
01:20You can click Edit to edit the address, and make some minor change to it if you'd
01:23like. And then click Save. Or, you can remove the address altogether.
01:34Now that you've got additional shipping addresses, be sure to pay very close
01:43attention to which one you'll be using when you're ordering online.
01:46Remember that a merchant is not responsible for your error if you accidentally
01:51choose the wrong address when you're checking out and paying for an item.
01:55This is a convenient way to organize address information when sending to
01:58third parties or alternate addresses, especially when you're making purchases
02:02for gifts.

Making mass payments
00:00If you've got a PayPal Premier or Business account that's verified, you can
00:05call PayPal and ask them to enable a feature called Mass Payments.
00:09Mass Payments allows you to upload a tab delimited, or a comma separated values
00:14file, and send multiple payments at once to multiple people.
00:18In order to learn how Mass Payments works, how to prepare a file, and send it,
00:22click on the Send Money tab.
00:24First, you will have had to call PayPal, and ask them to enable this feature,
00:28then click on Make a Mass Payment.
00:31You can also allow another user on your account to do this, such as a bookkeeper,
00:35if you have multi-user access setup.
00:38Now, you can send up to 5,000 payments at once, and there's two ways to
00:41submit your mass payment.
00:43One; you can upload a file, which I'm going to show you.
00:45Two; if you have a programmer, or you are a programmer yourself,
00:49you can use the application programming interface, which is available through PayPal.
00:54I'm just going to show you a simple way to create a text file, and upload it to the system.
00:59To learn how make this files, click on this link right here.
01:03There is a guide here in PDF format that you can click on to learn more
01:06about mass payments.
01:08Rather than reading through a 40 page manual,
01:10let me show you a couple of simple ways to make mass payments.
01:15If you want to learn about the process of making the file, you can go ahead and
01:19create it using Notepad or Excel, and I'll show you samples of both.
01:23You have to have enough money in your PayPal account to cover the cost of the
01:26mass payments you will be sending, and you can't use a debit or credit card, or a
01:31checking account to fund those payments.
01:33The money must already be in your account.
01:36In the next section, it explains the cost of sending mass payments.
01:39For domestic and international, it's 2% to send a mass payment.
01:43For domestic, it's no more than $1.00 total cost, and for international
01:47payments, it will vary depending upon the currency.
01:50Let's go back up and take a look at how to create a payment file.
01:54In this section, we can see the different columns that you'll need to have in your file.
01:58If you scroll through these instructions, you'll see that you have different
02:02columns for different aspects of the mass payment,
02:04the first being the e-mail address of the person receiving the payment, then the
02:08dollar amount of the payment, and then the type of currency.
02:11In this case, we will be using U.S. dollars.
02:13You must hold that currency in order to send it.
02:16In other words, if you have a U.S. dollar balance, you'll have to use U.S. dollars
02:20to send the mass payment.
02:22In the fourth column, you have an optional reference account number, or a reference
02:26number that you can use to track your payment, and in the last column, you have a
02:30note that will be seen by the person receiving that payment.
02:33The last two columns are totally optional.
02:35You don't have to use them.
02:36Now, I'm going to go to the Desktop here, and I'm going to open up my exercise
02:40files to show you how the mass payment file works.
02:44I've created two mass payment examples.
02:46One is using Excel.
02:47Since Excel is a very popular program, a lot of folks will be using that to make
02:52their mass payment file.
02:53You can create the columns here, and then once you're done creating the file, you
02:58can go ahead and click on this logo here, and then Save As, and then change the
03:03file type to Comma Separated Values.
03:05You can also use Tab Delimited files.
03:08Once that's done, I'm going to go ahead and Save this mass payments file, and
03:13then it will be ready to use.
03:14When I close Excel, I'll see that there is file here; a Comma Separated Values
03:19file that can be used for mass payment.
03:21Also here is an example of a file that I created in Notepad.
03:26In Notepad, I typed in the information, and I used the Tab key to separate the fields.
03:30You have to use a Tab in order to separate the different fields when
03:34you're using Notepad.
03:35This is an easy way to make a file if you don't have Excel installed on your computer.
03:40Once you're done making the columns, and you save the file, you can then upload
03:43it into the PayPal system, and send the mass payment.
03:46We are going to go ahead and do that now.
03:48In order to send the file, I'll need to upload the file, which I'll do by
03:51clicking here, and then I'll go to my Desktop, then go into my
03:56exercise files, and then select the file that I'm going to use for mass payments,
04:01and then click Open.
04:02Then, in the next section, I need to indicate to PayPal the method that I'll be
04:06using for associating the payment to the recipient,
04:10which is either e-mail address, phone number, or PayPal costumer ID, if you know it.
04:14I'm going to use the easy way, which is the e-mail address, and then I'm going to
04:18put a subject line here.
04:20Now, once you've done that, you can click the Review option, and the file will be uploaded.
04:25In the next screen, you'll see a list of all the mass payments that are being
04:28made to the individual e-mail addresses.
04:30You'll see the total cost and fees that are associated with the mass payment.
04:35You have the option to make changes, or go ahead and submit the payment.
04:39Each of these recipients will receive the amount you've indicated in your file.
04:43I can't imagine every possible reason you'd want to make a mass payment, but a
04:47couple good examples might be making commission payments to sales people, or
04:51possibly paying vendors for invoices.
04:53In both cases, the recipient does have to have a PayPal account.
04:57This is a convenient and fast way to make multiple payments at once.

3. Selling and Getting Paid
Using the Request Money tab
00:00When you'd like to get paid with PayPal, you can ask someone to pay you through
00:04the PayPal system by clicking on the Request Money tab.
00:07This works as a handy reminder to the other person that you'd like to get
00:11paid through PayPal.
00:12I'll show you the simple process of using this PayPal feature.
00:16The first step is to click on Request Money, right here at the top menu.
00:20Bear in mind that the other person doesn't need to have a PayPal account.
00:23They'll just be notified that you'd like to be paid through PayPal.
00:26Go ahead and type in the recipient's e-mail address.
00:30Now, if you've sent a request to this person before, they'll appear on this
00:33dropdown menu, and you can simply select their e-mail address.
00:37Then go ahead and enter the dollar amount that you'd like them to pay you, and
00:41you can enter one of many different currencies.
00:43In this case, I'm using U.S. Dollars, but if you'd like to be paid in a different
00:46currency, you can go ahead and select it off the list.
00:49Then indicate what type of payment this is for, whether goods or services,
00:55then click Continue.
00:57Review the next screen, and if everything looks good, click on the Request Money option.
01:03Now, what happens next is an e-mail will be sent to the other party, and they'll be
01:07able to pay you through PayPal.
01:09They'll be notified that you'd like to get paid, and they'll go ahead and be able
01:12to log in to their PayPal account, and send the funds to you.
01:15Now, you'll see this information in the My Account tab, so if you click on My
01:20Account, you'll see the payment request has been sent, and you'll see what's
01:24called a Bill To transaction.
01:26If you want to cancel this transaction, you can go ahead and do that by clicking
01:30on the Cancel option in the submenu here. Or, if you need to send a reminder
01:35invoice, you can do that here.
01:36The details of the transaction can always be viewed by clicking this link right here.
01:40I'm going to go ahead and click Cancel Money Request, and you'll see this
01:45Confirmation Screen right here.
01:48If you check this box, then no reminder e-mail will be sent to the other person
01:51letting them know that you're canceling this.
01:55Request Money is quite simple and easy.
01:57Once the request is paid for by the other person, you'll immediately see the
02:01funds appear right in your PayPal account balance.
02:04So as long as they didn't pay you with an electronic check, the funds will be
02:08available for immediate use.

Using the Send Invoice option
00:00If you are running a business, you can create professional looking invoices with
00:04your PayPal account that are sure to impress your clients.
00:08To start this process, click on the Request Money tab.
00:12Now, just like requesting money, invoices are a request to a client to pay you,
00:17but they are in a much more professional looking format; something that a small
00:20business would be likely to want to send out.
00:22Before you can start sending invoices, we will need to configure to your account
00:26so that all the settings are prepared and ready to go.
00:30Let's click on the Invoice Settings option right here in the submenu.
00:33I'm going to walk you through each of these sections one step at a time.
00:37The first thing you want to do is put in your business name.
00:42Your name will automatically be filled in from your account information, and
00:45you can certainly change that here; this is just for when you are sending out an invoice.
00:50If you don't want your personal name on here, you can go ahead and delete that
00:53information, and then you can just have your company name appear on the invoice.
00:57I'm going to go ahead and put in some additional information here, such as my
01:01fax number. Then I'll put in my Web site, and optionally, you can put in your tax ID number.
01:09Some people use tax ID numbers on their invoices, because a lot of companies
01:13require them in order to pay you.
01:16When you are done entering all this information for the basic information
01:20that's going to appear on your invoice, click the Save option, and then it will
01:23be saved into the browser.
01:25The next item is the invoice logo.
01:28You will want to put your best foot forward, and image is very important.
01:32What I want to do is show you how to add a graphic to your invoice to make it
01:36look that much more professional.
01:38I've got one saved here on my Desktop in my exercise files right here.
01:43I'll go ahead and add this logo to my invoices.
01:46Now, the logo must be no bigger than 75 by 200 pixels.
01:51Once you are done previewing the logo, go ahead and click Agree and Save.
01:55Now, there is also a different logo that you can upload, which is the logo that
02:00your costumer or client will see when they receive an invoice from you.
02:05That's the logo that will appear in the e-mails that they receive when you
02:09send out an invoice.
02:10It needs to be a different logo than the one that you just uploaded.
02:14It actually can be 90 by up to 500 pixels wide, so it can be bigger.
02:18I'm going to use the same logo since this is a demonstration, and I'll just
02:22show you how it works.
02:24Now, this logo will appear in the e-mails that I send out to clients; that's
02:28the invoice e-mails.
02:29Now I click Agree and Save.
02:31In the next section, you can set up tax information.
02:34So, if you collect sales tax in your jurisdiction -- like in the state of
02:37California, I collect sales tax --
02:39if you live in a state which also has a sales tax, then you can put in the rates here.
02:44If you collect different rates for different states, or if you are a multi-state
02:47seller, you can go ahead and enter different rates into this matrix right here,
02:52and you can enter up to a total of ten different rates.
02:55These are the taxes that will be applied to the invoice when you sell a product
02:59or a service that's taxable.
03:01In the next section are items that we can save ahead of time that we can apply to an invoice.
03:05So for example, if you have products or services that you charge for on a
03:09regular basis, you can go ahead and add them here.
03:12I have a couple of different services already added here, and I can modify them,
03:17and I can edit them if I want to, or delete them if I need to, and I can also add a new Item.
03:21So if I want to add a new service or product, I can do so here.
03:28You can put in the unit price, and then if it's taxable or not, and there you go.
03:35It shows up right there on the list.
03:37You can also set up templates in advance for invoices that you send on a regular basis.
03:41So I'm going to ahead and create a template that I can use to send invoices, and
03:47you will see here the basic invoice information will then pop up.
03:50We can adjust the terms.
03:53You can also add the products that you are going to be billing for.
03:57In this case, I often offer computer disk cleaning service, and quite frequently
04:01I charge that, so I want to make a template that allows me to quickly send an
04:05invoice for the same service over and over again.
04:09If you want to, you can put some additional terms and conditions here, and you
04:14can put an optional note to your recipient.
04:20Then you can add a memo, which is only seen by you.
04:23Once you are done, you can preview the template, and you can see what it would
04:27look like as if you are receiving this invoice.
04:31Once you are done previewing it, you can go ahead and save the template.
04:36You will want to enter a simple name for your template, so you can look it up
04:39again later, and you can indicate if this will be the default template.
04:46There is also a handy address book here, which allows you to store client
04:49information, and also telephone numbers, Web site addresses; all kinds of
04:54information about the clients you will be sending invoices to.
04:57I've already got one in here, and I'll show you how to add a new one.
05:00First, you click on Add New Contact.
05:03Then you fill in all the information on this form.
05:08If the billing address is the same as the shipping address, you can leave that
05:11checked, and you can put additional information here.
05:15Often times people put the tax ID number in there, because for whatever reason
05:18you might need to do some reporting when you are sending out 1099s, and things of that nature.
05:24You can put an optional memo here if you want to, and then click Save.
05:27We are going to go back to the Invoice Settings, and I think we've set everything
05:32up now, and now that we are completely done organizing all the settings, this is
05:36a one time thing that we will not have to do again.
05:39We can go ahead and create our first invoice.
05:43Now, I see here that my logo now shows up.
05:45My Invoice number is now 1.
05:47If I want to change that, I certainly can, and I can change just about anything
05:51related to this invoice at this point.
05:52If I had multiple templates, I could pull one down from here, and change the
05:56template at any time.
05:58Scroll down to the next section, and we will go ahead and take a look in our
06:02address book, and send an invoice to somebody in the address book.
06:06So I'll select the person I want to use to add to the invoice.
06:11Once I do that, they will appear right here in the invoice.
06:13Let's scroll down to the next section.
06:16You can see that because I'm using a template, automatically the computer disk
06:20cleaning service has been added in.
06:22I can add additional rows as well, and put more information into these rows.
06:27So if I wanted to bill for multiple services, I click in the check box here,
06:31and let's say I added a computer cable to the order, or I added some additional consulting.
06:36I can go ahead and put that in there.
06:38I put two hours of consulting here, and I put one computer cable, and I can go
06:42ahead and review my invoice; preview it.
06:46Make sure it looks exactly the way I want it to -- looks very professional -- and
06:51then I can send it, edit it, or print it.
06:54If I want to take a copy of this invoice and put it in my file, I can click the
06:58Print option, and you will see here a preview of that print will show up.
07:02I can go ahead and print it right now.
07:04I'm going to go ahead and close this tab for the Print Preview, and then I'm
07:08going to go ahead and send the invoice.
07:10Now, once an invoice has been sent, you will be sent directly to this filtering
07:16system that allows you to manage the invoices that you've sent out.
07:19You can see the activity of invoices that have been sent, unpaid, paid, and past due.
07:26Now, this Invoice tool is very powerful, and allows you to send nice, clean, and
07:30professional looking invoices to clients.
07:32It rounds out the entire PayPal business experience.
07:35You will be able to see the status of these invoices at any time, and you will
07:39know whether they have been paid or not, and you can quickly send reminders to
07:42clients who haven't paid.

Requesting money with Outlook
00:00If Outlook is your daily dashboard for managing e-mail, and other activities, you
00:05can download and install the Payment Request Wizard for PayPal.
00:09You can do that by going to paypal.com/outlook.
00:13Now, the Payment Request Wizard works with Microsoft Outlook, or Outlook Express.
00:18You can download the file over here.
00:21I'm going to go ahead and download the Microsoft Outlook file, and since I don't
00:25need to necessarily save it to my computer, I'll just Open and run the file
00:28directly from the Internet.
00:30Go ahead and accept this warning, and allow this to be installed, and just follow
00:36the instructions on your screen for installing it.
00:42When you're done, click Finish.
00:45Now I'm going to go ahead and open Outlook.
00:46Now, depending on your version of Outlook, you'll usually see this option up
00:52here called Add-Ins.
00:54You'll now see the Payment Request Wizard appears here in the Add-Ins, and you
00:58can see the submenus offer different types of payment requests.
01:02You can see Basic, Product, Service, eBay Auction, or Donation Request templates.
01:08I'm going to walk you through each of them, and show you what they look like.
01:12In the Basic Request, you'll be able to put in your PayPal e-mail address, so
01:16you'll get paid to the correct account.
01:18There's an Amount section for the amount you'll be requesting, an e-mail Subject
01:22that's already filled in, and optionally you can change it, and a note section
01:26for a message that you can send to the recipient of your request.
01:30Now, if you look at the Product request, it's slightly different in that it
01:34provides a template that also has the same information, but you can also request
01:39the shipping address for the person that you're sending the product to, and you
01:43can put product details in as well, plus shipping and handling information.
01:47For a Service Request template, you'll have the same information as you do for
01:51Basic Requests, however, you can put a description of the service that you're
01:55offering, and the amount of the request.
01:58The only difference for an eBay Auction Request is that you have a space to put
02:02in the eBay item number.
02:05If you run a charity, you can also put in a Donation Request as well, so the
02:09person will receive a template that says that you're asking for a donation.
02:13Now, for each of the request types, you can also indicate what currency you're
02:17requesting, and you can change the currency type here.
02:20There is many different currency types available through PayPal, and we'll be
02:24using U.S. Dollars for our sample request.
02:27I'm going to go ahead and go back to a Basic request, and I'll be sending out a
02:30request right now, just to show you how it works.
02:32The first thing you want to do is put in your PayPal e-mail address.
02:36This ensures that the money goes to the correct PayPal account, and that you'll
02:40actually receive the funds.
02:42The next box is the amount you'll be requesting, and you can change the
02:46subject line if you wish.
02:49Then you can put in a little note here. Then click Next.
02:54Now you can choose the type of button that will appear in the body of the e-mail.
02:58Since this was a loan, I'm going to use the Pay Now button, and I'll show the
03:02logos for the different types of credit cards that PayPal offers.
03:06You also have the option to just provide a button with no credit card logos, or
03:10if you're selling a product, you can use a Buy Now button.
03:13If you'd rather not use a graphic at all, you can just click on the Link Text right here.
03:18I'm going to click Next, and then I can preview the information, then I'll go
03:23ahead and click Create.
03:24What will happen is that the wizard will go ahead and create an e-mail template
03:29that will be sent to the other person.
03:31So I'll go ahead and put their e-mail address in here.
03:35I'll preview the whole e-mail to make sure everything looks correct.
03:38This is exactly what it will look like when they receive it, and then I'll click Send.
03:43The Outlook Payment Request Wizard will make sending a money request very
03:47quick and easy, and it avoids the need to jump over to PayPal, and login to
03:52complete the request.
03:54The person from whom you're requesting payment will see a money request in their
03:57e-mail, and they'll be able to click the link and pay you very quickly.

Requesting money with QuickBooks
00:00PayPal offers a handy Payment Request Wizard toolbar that will integrate
00:04with QuickBooks 2002 versions and above for both the Pro and Premier
00:10versions of QuickBooks.
00:12Creating a QuickBooks file is outside the scope of this particular training,
00:16however, you can always check out QuickBooks Pro 2010 Essential Training here in
00:21the lynda.com Online Training Library.
00:23I'm going to walk you through the process of installing and using the QuickBooks tool.
00:28These various wizards can be found at the Merchant Services tab, and if you
00:32scroll down the page, you'll find that a few of these links are right here on the
00:36Manage Payments section.
00:38I'm going to click on the one for QuickBooks, then I'm going to download
00:42and install the file.
00:44Go ahead and accept this warning, and allow this to be installed, and just follow
00:49the instructions on your screen for installing it.
00:54The wizard has finished installing, and I can go ahead and close out these
01:00windows, and then I can go into QuickBooks.
01:02Now, at the top right of the interface, you'll see that there's a PayPal logo.
01:08We'll need to open Outlook before we can start sending these reminder invoices,
01:13so I'm going to go ahead and open up my Outlook program.
01:16Now, if you have a different mail client installed, QuickBooks will automatically
01:20use that mail client to send the invoices.
01:23So, you don't have to have Outlook as long as you have a mail client
01:25installed on your computer.
01:27Now that I have my e-mail opened, and I have QuickBooks opened, it's important
01:31that you have an invoice that's already created in the system.
01:34So, I'm going to just show you really quickly that there is an invoice in the
01:37system that we can use to remind somebody that they owe us money.
01:41This is a sample invoice, and I made this sample invoice to show you that the
01:45PayPal interface will integrate with this invoice and send a reminder to the
01:50company that they have to pay for this invoice.
01:52It's invoice number one.
01:53If I click on the PayPal logo, I can then go ahead and put in the
01:58invoice number; click Next.
02:01Now you have the option to use a Pay Now button with credit card information, or
02:06a Pay Now button without.
02:08What this does is it tells someone who does not already have a PayPal account
02:12that you do accept major credit cards with your PayPal account.
02:15Even if they don't have a PayPal account, they can enter their credit card, and
02:18pay you for this invoice.
02:19Then you will want to enter in your PayPal e-mail, and the type of currency, and
02:26then click Next, and you can change the e-mail template if you would like.
02:29You can go ahead and preview the information here, and then click on the Create button.
02:36Now an e-mail will be generated; you'll see it popping up over here.
02:39I'll go over to the e-mail, and you'll see a copy of the invoice has been created
02:44inside of my e-mail client, and it shows up right here.
02:47There's a handy Pay Now button within the invoice, and a copy of this invoice can
02:51be sent to my customer.
02:53So I'll go ahead and type in the customer's information here, put in their e-mail
02:57address, and then click Send.
03:00Now, what's happened is a copy of this invoice, and a PayPal payment link, has
03:04been sent to the customer.
03:06Using the PayPal QuickBooks integration tool and Payment Wizard will help speed
03:10up the process of requesting money.
03:12Your customers and clients will appreciate the faster, easier way to pay you
03:16than having to write a check and drop it in the mail.

Selling on eBay and other sites
00:00I'd like to walk you through some basics about using PayPal with eBay, and other
00:04Web sites that you may wish to set up for selling merchandise or services online.
00:09Let's discuss the concepts in general here about all this works.
00:14First, I want to show you an eBay listing page, and when you're listing an item
00:17on eBay, to add PayPal as a method of payment, you simply have to go into the
00:22Sell Your Item form on eBay, and add the e-mail address that's associated with
00:26your PayPal account.
00:28Now, if you have your own Web site, you can go ahead and add buttons to that
00:32Web site to allow people to click the button, and quickly purchase the product
00:36that you're selling.
00:37This is a very simple button that you can create directly on your PayPal account.
00:42It then allows the person who is buying that product to go in and sign in to
00:46their PayPal, and quickly pay for the item.
00:49You can generate the code for this by going to the PayPal Web site, and provide
00:54the code to the programmer who sets up your Web pages, or you can put it directly
00:58into the Web site yourself if you're familiar with HTML.
01:01It does not require extensive programming knowledge, because it is simple HTML,
01:06and you can just drop and copy it directly into your Web page.
01:10As you can see in this code example, this is a view of the back end code for this Web page.
01:15It's a simple matter of copying, pasting the code directly into the section on
01:20the Web page where you want it to appear.
01:22These buttons are then saved into your PayPal account for later reuse.
01:27Now, if you login to PayPal, and you want to learn more about the options that
01:30are available for you for selling on your Web site, you will want to start at the
01:34Merchant Services tab.
01:35There is a lot of links here, and it can get a little overwhelming if you're new to PayPal.
01:40Here, you can learn about the different resources, and on the left-hand side menu,
01:44you'll see merchant services that are available for you, and then if you scroll
01:48through, you'll see hotlinks that allow you to go in and explore different
01:51aspects of PayPal's merchant offerings.
01:55Now, I am going to take you through a couple of comparisons on some of the
01:58services that are offered, and the first one is Website Payments and
02:01Website Payments Pro.
02:03Website Payments Standard is just a name for the services that are automatically
02:07enabled when you register for PayPal.
02:09And when you have a PayPal Premier Account, or a Business account, you can accept
02:13credit cards online automatically.
02:15You can also accept PayPal payments, too.
02:18With Websites Payment Pro you'll be able to process credit card payments
02:21directly on your Web site, and the user will never go to the PayPal site.
02:26So it's seamless, and it appears as though credit card processing is taking place
02:30directly on your Web site.
02:32If you want to learn more about these services, you can go through and look at
02:34the comparison online, and it will explain to you what the benefits of each
02:38service are, and when you should probably use them.
02:41Website Payments Pro has some sophisticated customized risk filters that also
02:46help you to avoid chargebacks.
02:48If you look at the next section here, you'll see a thing called Payflow Payment Gateway.
02:52If you're a merchant with an existing relationship with a bank for internet
02:56credit card processing, you can integrate that credit card processing directly
03:01with PayPal, and you can use the service called the Payflow Payment Gateway.
03:05That's a little different, because it's a hybrid where you're using an
03:08older system, something that you've already established, along with the PayPal services.
03:13If you look at the next tab here, you'll see that PayPal offers a service
03:17called Express Checkout.
03:18Express Checkout is very similar to the regular checkout, except that you
03:22don't have to enter as much information to go through the process of
03:25purchasing an item.
03:27This is a great compliment to any existing Web site where you're offering another
03:31payment method, such as direct credit card, but you also want to give your
03:34customer a chance to use PayPal in a quick and easy fashion.
03:39Express Checkout is much faster than just simply having to type in a bunch of
03:43credit card information, and it's proven to boost sales by up to 18% by adding
03:47PayPal as a method of payment to your Web page.
03:50Now, this is a really, really handy service; let me explain this service.
03:54This is one of my favorite services that PayPal offers for merchants. It's
03:58called Virtual Terminal.
03:59I used to have a very expensive monthly service charge with a bank where they
04:04would process credit cards for me, and I've been able to eliminate that by
04:07having a virtual terminal.
04:08There's no machine; there's no equipment. You can quickly and easily process
04:13payments by phone, fax, or mail, or you can have people come into your store, and
04:17you can process credit card payments that way too.
04:20Virtual Terminal is just what it sounds like: it's a virtual credit card
04:24terminal that you can use, and if you want to use the optional credit card
04:28swiper, it plugs directly into your computer's USB port, and you can order one to
04:33be used with this Virtual Terminal service.
04:36So this is a great way to take phone orders especially, and it speeds up the
04:39process, because there's no paper, there's no forms, and the fraud protection that
04:44you get with Virtual Terminal is absolutely superior.
04:47I've been using Virtual Terminal for about two years now, and I'm very happy with this service.
04:52The next thing I want to show you is the Partner Directory.
04:55If you are interested in using a third party cart, like a shopping cart service,
04:59there are free carts available in the Partner Directory.
05:03So if you want to learn more about these, you can go to the PayPal site, and
05:07explore the Partner Directory.
05:09Here's an example of a totally 100% free shopping cart that you can add to your own Web site.
05:16You can click here and learn more about these services, and by offering one of
05:19these carts, you can make your Web site a lot more professional looking, and make
05:24it easier for customers to buy, and checkout, and purchase products.
05:27Now, I'm just covering basic concepts here about how all this works.
05:31To dive a lot deeper into the more complex aspects of PayPal Integration, if
05:36you're not a programmer, you might want to find someone who's already well-versed
05:40in the area of PayPal Integration for your Web site.
05:43If you're pretty good with HTML, you can easily add buttons to your site, and
05:47start accepting payments quickly and easily, and eventually graduate up into a
05:51more sophisticated shopping cart system.

Creating payment buttons
00:00The Merchant Services tab is a great place to start learning about how to use
00:04PayPal for your business, and you can easily generate simple HTML buttons that
00:09allow you to sell products on your Web site.
00:12These can be added to any Web page quickly and easily.
00:15You'll see right here at the top section that there are quick and easy links
00:19that take you to these buttons.
00:21So what I'll do is I'm going to create a button for you, and I have a Web page
00:24that I'd like to put a button on, so that I can sell a product.
00:27First of all, let me show you exactly what that Web page looks like.
00:31I have this page, which is also saved in your exercise files, for an actual
00:36sample product page.
00:37Now, this is a very elementary, simple page, but the purpose of this
00:41demonstration is to show you how straightforward it is to add a payment option.
00:46I'd like to sell this purple plush gorilla monkey, and actually allow people to
00:50pay for it with PayPal.
00:52At the moment, all I have is a simple Web page, and a photograph.
00:55So what I'll do is I'll go back over to PayPal, and I will create a button for this.
01:00So I'm going to click on make a Buy Now button.
01:03I want to explain a few things to you about buttons.
01:06The Add Cart, and Donation, and Purchase buttons are all pretty much created in a similar fashion.
01:12You'll go through the same steps and processes in order to make them.
01:16Some of the buttons have a little more power to them than others, such as the Add
01:20Cart button, which allows you to put an Add Cart option on your Web page, and
01:25allow multiple items to be purchased at once.
01:27A Buy Now button, which is what we're about to create, is for a single payment
01:31option on a Web page, whereas the Add Cart button is for people who want to sell
01:36multiple items off of the same Web site.
01:38So right now let's just start with this basic button, and we'll go through the
01:41steps in making one.
01:43So the first step is to select the type of button, which we've discussed just a
01:47moment ago, and you have various options, which you see here.
01:50I'm going to go ahead and type in a short name, which is just a descriptive for what it is.
01:58And optionally, you can use an ID number.
02:00That's if you have an inventory control number, like XYZ, or something like that.
02:05Then put the price in.
02:08Then you can add some additional customization.
02:10You can add a dropdown menu with price options.
02:12So if you have different sizes of monkeys, and you want to sell them at different
02:17prices, you can do that.
02:18You can add additional dropdown menus as well.
02:21If you want to add some additional dropdown menus, you can see some examples
02:24of what they look like, such as small, medium, or large, and those will be available as well.
02:30You can add a text field to the option as well.
02:33So if you're wanting to add a text field for something like engraving, or
02:37personalization, or maybe even a gift card, you can certainly do that.
02:41We're just going to keep it pretty simple at this point, and we're not really
02:44going to make too many changes, but you have the ability to customize the
02:48appearance of the button.
02:49So if you want to use a smaller button, you can make it tinier.
02:52If you want to display credit card logos, which I definitely want to do, you
02:56can do that as well.
02:58You can change what the text will say; either Pay Now, or Buy Now.
03:01You can also do something really clever, which is you can upload your own button image.
03:06So if you want to use your own colored button, or your own graphic, you can do that as well.
03:11Then, you can specify a shipping amount.
03:13So in addition to the cost of the item, you can indicate how much it costs for shipping.
03:17So I can put that here as well.
03:19And the tax rates, so if there's sales tax, you can put that in there.
03:23You have additional features here, which you can explore later, and learn more
03:26about them, but I'm going to go to Step 2, and we're going to take a look at
03:29what's involved in Step 2.
03:32If you want to track inventory, and make sure that you don't oversell an item,
03:35you can do that. And if you want to track your cost on an item, and keep track of
03:39the profits and losses you're making, you can do that as well.
03:43Let's scroll to the next section, which is Advanced Features, and we'll read
03:47through those as well.
03:48So, if you're an advanced user, you might want to allow people to do a few
03:52other things with the buttons, such as change the order quantities, which I
03:55definitely want to do.
03:57You can add options such as special messaging.
04:00So if you want your customers to be able to add some special instructions, like
04:04gift wrapping, maybe personalization, you can do that here.
04:08You definitely need an address to ship the item, but if you were selling digital
04:12goods, like through an e-mail, you wouldn't need that, so you could turn that off.
04:16In this next section, you can take customers to a custom URL or Web page
04:21whenever they decide to cancel their checkout.
04:23So you might want to encourage them to change their mind, or something like that.
04:27When someone's finished with checkout, then you can go ahead and take them to a success page.
04:31So if you've made a custom Web page for something that says, hey!
04:35Thank you very much for placing this order.
04:38We really appreciate it.
04:39Consider buying some of our other items. And you can take them to a page like that.
04:43There are some other features here, which we won't cover in this lesson.
04:46These are things that you can learn on your own if you want to dive deeper, but
04:50basically, that's it for creating a basic button.
04:53Once you've done that, you have two choices.
04:55If you're going to sell the product through e-mail, like if you want to e-mail
04:58somebody an invoice and say, hey!
04:59Would you like to buy this item?
05:01You can send them a URL.
05:03Now, this is pretty handy, because if you wanted to just shoot someone an
05:05e-mail and say, hey!
05:06Buy this now, here's a link; you can do that.
05:09We're going to embed this code into our Web site.
05:12So what I'll do is I'm going to go ahead and copy the code, and I'll go ahead
05:16and copy it, and put it into my Web page.
05:19Now, I'm going to flip back over to Dreamweaver.
05:21Now as a reminder, Dreamweaver is not the only tool you can use to make Web pages.
05:26In fact, there's tons of different ways to make Web sites and Web pages.
05:30So you basically just need to understand the basics of HTML.
05:34So I'm going to flip over to the code view so you can see what it looks like, and
05:38this is what the actual code looks like in the page, and I'm going to go ahead,
05:42and paste that button into the table data section, which is right here, and I'll
05:47go ahead and show it to you.
05:49So you can now see that I've pasted the code directly from PayPal right into
05:53this Web page, and it will appear as a payment button.
05:57Now, I'll flip back over to design and make sure it looks good, which it does.
06:01And I'll save the page, and now I can take a look at it.
06:05Now, I have gone ahead and saved this page into my exercise folder here on the
06:09computer, and you can see this sample button page that I've created. There you go!
06:14You have a handy button there, and a Web page that shows you that you
06:17can purchase the item.
06:18You can now upload this page directly to your Web server, and people can start
06:22seeing it online, and making purchases.
06:25Once they click the Buy Now button, they'll be transported magically over to
06:29the PayPal site where they can then sign in, and pay for it, and purchase this
06:33plush gorilla doll.
06:34For the average business person, this is how you'll be making use of PayPal on your Web site.
06:39The discussion about using shopping cart systems, and the PayPal API, is a more
06:43complicated one that's beyond this essential training.
06:46These tools will get you started quickly and painlessly with adding PayPal
06:50buttons on your Web site.

Using PayPal for nonprofits
00:00If you're involved with a nonprofit organization, and would like to help your
00:04charity receive donations through PayPal, I'll show you a few well hidden
00:09secrets about how to get discounts and benefits from an in-the-know, behind the
00:14scenes look at PayPal for charity.
00:17First, click on Merchant Services.
00:20Then over here, you'll see a link that says Choose a payment solution
00:23that's right for you.
00:25And as you scroll down, you'll see a section about Nonprofits under Industry
00:28solutions, right here.
00:31Now, you could take a few minutes to read over this, and understand how the
00:35Donate buttons work.
00:36Just as we created a regular Purchase button on PayPal, you can also
00:41create Donation buttons.
00:43It's the same process, and I'll walk you through that in a minute.
00:46There's well over a hundred thousand charities using PayPal right now to receive donations.
00:51You can learn more about taking your nonprofit online here with the resources
00:54on the Web, and you can download a guide for nonprofits, which is right here on the PayPal site.
01:00It's a handy guide, and you can scroll through it, and read all about PayPal
01:04suggestions about how to get started with your charity.
01:08Now, let's take a look at how to make a Donation button.
01:10I want to go ahead and show you the process step by step.
01:13So I'm going to go up and take a peek at how to make a Donation button.
01:17I'm going to go back to Merchant Services, and I'm going to go ahead and create a
01:22Donate button right here.
01:25So let's go through the process.
01:27The first one is the organization name or service, and in this case, we're going
01:31to type in a company name.
01:33That's your foundation name, and optionally, you can put in a donation ID number,
01:40like general, which just means general donation.
01:44You can customize the appearance of the Donate button, but we'll keep it very
01:47simple, and just show you a standard Donation button. Then we can go ahead and
01:52click the next section. We can save the button at PayPal, which is very handy,
01:56because if I decide to reuse this button at a later time, I can do that.
02:01Then we have some customization options, such as adding a special message.
02:05We don't need an address; we don't want to overload people with too many
02:08questions, so what I'm going to do is I'm not going to ask them for an address.
02:12Now, you can additionally send them over to a page that thanks them for their donation.
02:16I'd recommend that you definitely do that, because you want to encourage them on
02:20actionable next steps, like not only do you want to thank them, but you want to
02:23encourage them to perhaps add their name and address to a Web form, or ask them
02:28to volunteer, or whatever other information you can put on a Web page. You can
02:33immediately shoot them over to that Web page after they've finished making the
02:37donation through PayPal.
02:39Once you've clicked Create Button, the code will appear, and you'll be able to
02:43embed that button directly into your foundation or charity's Web site.
02:47The button will look just like the one you see on the screen here.
02:50It's very simple to create these buttons, and you can do them quickly and easily.
02:55If you're requesting a donation in an e-mail, you can click here, and you can go
02:59ahead and copy and paste this code directly into an e-mail.
03:02When somebody uses the code, and puts it into an e-mail, and then sends it out,
03:07you'll be able to go ahead and link to that, and it'll quickly show a form
03:12for making a donation.
03:13So you can see here, this is exactly what the user will see when they click
03:16the link in an e-mail.
03:18So I want to show you a couple of more things.
03:19Let's talk about embedding that Donate button on another Web page.
03:22So here's an example of One Square Inch, which is a charity that uses the Donate
03:27button, and you can see the button that they have created.
03:30It's very, very simple.
03:31You just click the button, and you can quickly make a donation.
03:34So here's an example, in context, of how the Donate option is used on an
03:38actual charity Web site.
03:40Some charities like to put links in their Web pages, and I'll take you over to
03:44the Hollywood High School Alumni Association, and their Web site allows you to
03:48click on a link in the text that takes you to a form to make a donation.
03:53So here, instead of using a button, they used just a simple link, and you click
03:58that link, and you can immediately make a donation to the organization.
04:02So this is all very, very simple.
04:04If you want to, you can also send donation invoices to your supporters.
04:08Let's go through one more process, here, of understanding a little bit more about the rates.
04:12So there are discounted rates for nonprofits.
04:15Back on the Merchant Services tab, let's go ahead and take a look at the
04:18information about nonprofits one more time.
04:20Let's understand a little bit more about the process.
04:24As a nonprofit organization, you are entitled to reduced fees with PayPal.
04:29Be sure that you immediately take advantage of these reduced costs.
04:33It'll be less expensive for your organization to use PayPal, provided that you go
04:38ahead and notify PayPal that you're a nonprofit organization.
04:42In order to take advantage of these lower rates, you'll need a letter from the
04:45IRS stating your tax exempt status, and you'll need a bank statement or a voided
04:50check in your nonprofit organization's name, plus the e-mail address for your
04:54PayPal account, and you'll need to send that to compliance@paypal.com to request
04:59these discounted rates that are available to you.
05:02The Payment buttons are very easy to make, and you'll be receiving lots of
05:05donations in no time at all.

4. Managing Your Account
Adding funds from a bank account
00:00Until someone actually sends you a payment through PayPal, your balance will be 0.
00:05You are allowed to write virtual checks by paying for them with PayPal using
00:09your checking account,
00:10but unless you prefund money into your balance, there is going to be a short
00:14delay while PayPal processes your request for an eCheck.
00:18If you are anxious to receive what you are ordering, you'll want to use the
00:21option to transfer funds into your account first in advance,
00:25so they will be standing by for you when you want to buy something.
00:28To do this, click on the Add Funds option, and click Add Funds from Bank Account.
00:33This is a very simple process.
00:35You select the bank account you wish to fund from, and you put in the amount you
00:39want to fund into your PayPal account here, then you click Continue, and then you click Submit.
00:45You'll need to wait for the ACH transfer to occur from your bank to PayPal, and
00:49in my personal experience, it takes less time than they quote on the Web site;
00:53usually 24 to 48 hours, and I'm golden.

Withdrawing funds to your bank account
00:00When you're selling goods or services, and then receive that money in PayPal,
00:04you'll eventually want to move some or all of those funds to your bank account.
00:08First of all, you'll need to have funds showing in your balance.
00:11The account you wish to transfer to must also be added, and then confirmed, and
00:16associated with PayPal.
00:18To do this, you can go ahead and click on the Withdraw option, and select
00:23Transfer to Bank Account.
00:25Now, in this little interface, you'll see a couple of links here.
00:28First of all, you'll see your current balance, and then you'll see a box to fill
00:32in the amount that you'll be withdrawing. and then if you have multiple bank
00:35accounts, you'll need to be sure to select the correct one.
00:38You'll notice that I have a $500 limit, because I'm new to PayPal, in terms of
00:43withdrawing funds out of my PayPal account.
00:45Now, this can be very limiting for a high volume merchant.
00:48So let's be sure we understand why that's there, and how to remove it.
00:52In order to remove this limit, you'll need to add a Social Security Number to your account.
00:56You'll also need to link and confirm your debit, or credit card.
01:00So I'm going to go ahead and go back to Withdraw, and then Transfer to my Bank Account.
01:03I'm going to fill in the dollar amount that I'm going to transfer; all $16.92.
01:07It will be going to my Chase account, and then I'll click on Continue.
01:13The next screen will ask me to confirm.
01:15If I want to make an edit, I can do that now.
01:17I will go ahead and click on the Submit button, and the transfer will begin.
01:21It will take a day or two for the funds to clear.
01:24That's in practice.
01:25I usually find that if I initiate a transfer during the day, it will go through
01:29the next business day.
01:30PayPal says it could take three or four days, which is a bit longer, but generally
01:34it goes much faster than the estimate that they give you.

Requesting a check
00:00For some people, a check is desired.
00:02Either you don't want to associate a specific bank account with PayPal, or you
00:06just need a paper check.
00:08In that case, you can request that one be mailed to you from PayPal.
00:12So let's go ahead and go through that process by clicking on the Withdraw option,
00:16and click Request a Check.
00:20Here, you will be able to enter the amount of the check that you would like to request.
00:23Since there is going to be a fee, I don't want to take out the entire balance.
00:26What I will do is I will take out $70, and the check will be payable to myself,
00:30and then there is the address that it will go to.
00:33Now, I'm going to go ahead and click here, and click Continue.
00:36There will be a $1.50 deducted from the payment that's sent to me,
00:40so I'll get $68.50.
00:43This is for processing and mailing the check to you.
00:45After all, postage is pretty expensive nowadays, and PayPal has to cover the
00:49time and the cost of producing an envelope, and printing a check, and sending it you.
00:54Allow a reasonable amount of time for printing and mailing, and be sure that the
00:58address that you have on file is accurate, and double-check it before you send
01:02the check to yourself, because you don't want it to end up in limbo, and then you
01:05will have to contact PayPal to stop payment on it and request a new one.
01:10Once you complete the request, the check will be mailed to you, and as the adage
01:14goes, the check will be in the mail.

Adding funds from MoneyPak
00:00MoneyPak is a convenient way to fund a PayPal account, and you can buy a MoneyPak
00:05at thousands of retail stores.
00:07It's essentially a code that you'll be buying, and it comes on a card, and then
00:11you can load it into your account at PayPal.
00:14MoneyPak is ideal for anyone who doesn't already have a bank account, or a
00:18credit or a debit card.
00:20Additionally, MoneyPak can be used to give someone a gift of virtual PayPal
00:24cash for any occasion.
00:26There's a fee for using MoneyPak when you purchase one at a store.
00:29It's a $4.95 fee, plus the cost of the actual funds you'll be loading.
00:35These are available in stores all over the United States, and you can find out
00:38which stores are near you by using the MoneyPak Web site.
00:43You can load between $20 and $500 for immediate use at participating partner
00:48stores, and you can find out which stores have MoneyPaks by going to the
00:53Web site www.moneypak.com.
00:57Now, we'll take a quick look at the MoneyPak Web site, and I'll show you how to
01:00find a store near you.
01:02So here's the MoneyPak Web site.
01:04If you want to find a store near you, you can simply click here, and type in the zip code.
01:09Then you click Go.
01:12Now, I used the store locator to find a store near me, and I went ahead and
01:15purchased the MoneyPak.
01:16So I have the code right now, and I'm going to go ahead and fund this MoneyPak
01:20onto my PayPal account by going to the PayPal account, and logging in, and
01:24clicking on the add funds link: Add Funds from MoneyPak.
01:29Now, I'm asked to put in the code that appears on the MoneyPak.
01:32So I'm going to scroll down.
01:33I'm going to go ahead and type in the MoneyPak Number.
01:36That's the number that came on the back of the card that I purchased.
01:39I'm going to enter the captcha code that's right here.
01:43Then, I'll click Continue.
01:45Now, the MoneyPak tells me that I can go ahead and add the $20 that I purchased
01:50earlier today, and I'll go ahead and click Fund the Account.
01:53I have a choice though.
01:54I can take some of the funds that are available on this MoneyPak, and leave some
01:58on the card for other purposes, or for use later.
02:01I'm going to use the entire $20 that's available, and surprisingly, I just
02:06purchased this card not more than 20 minutes ago at a retail store,
02:11and the funds were available immediately.
02:13I'll then click Fund Account.
02:16Now, I get a confirmation number, and I can return to my PayPal account, and see
02:20what the balance is.
02:22You can see now that the MoneyPak has been added to my account, and the balance
02:26has increased by $20.
02:28Just as you would with a bank account, you'll be able to quickly add funds using MoneyPak.
02:33Of course, you have to pay the $4.95 fee charged by MoneyPak every time you
02:38purchase one of the cards to load it.
02:40If you don't have a bank account, or if you're in a heated rush to put money on
02:44your PayPal balance, this is really the solution you can use right away.

Using a PayPal debit card at an ATM or using the MasterCard feature
00:00If you'd like a handy and convenient way to get money out of your PayPal
00:04account, you can ask PayPal for a PayPal Debit MasterCard.
00:09In order to obtain a PayPal Debit MasterCard, you need to meet a few of the requirements.
00:15You'll first need to have a Premier or a Business Account, and you have to be
00:18U.S. customer of PayPal.
00:20You have to have been a member for at least 2 months; you can't do it if you've
00:23just registered. They need to know that you've been around a little while, and
00:27that they see some activity on your account.
00:29You'll also need to have a confirmed address, and the quickest way to do that is
00:33to link a credit card to your account which has a monthly bank statement sent to
00:38a physical address, and not a P.O. Box.
00:41You'll also need to provide the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number, and
00:44in some cases, the entire Social, depending on the type of relationship you have
00:49with PayPal, plus your date of birth.
00:52Then you also need to be a member in good standing, so you can't have any
00:55violations, or concerns, or open issues with PayPal at the time that you're
00:59registering for a debit card.
01:02Let's go through the actual process, now, of requesting a debit card.
01:06I have an account which has been on PayPal for at least 60 days, and I'll go over
01:10the submenu option, which is PayPal Debit MasterCard; it's very easy to find.
01:16Then I'll go ahead and put in my date of birth, and then I'll put in my Social.
01:21Then over here, I'll Change the address, because I want the card to go to a
01:24different address than what's on there.
01:26I have two confirmed billing addresses on my account, and I'll select the first
01:30one, and then if I need to, I can change the phone number.
01:35Now, I'll flip down, and I'll click on the Continue option.
01:39I'll go ahead and read over the PayPal Debit MasterCard Agreement. If you
01:42want to read it, you can click here, and take a look at it, then click Agree and Continue.
01:48They're processing my request.
01:50At this point, once I'm approved, I'll go ahead and receive a debit card in the mail.
01:55You can use this card just as you would any other debit card, and the funds will
01:59be taken from your available PayPal balance.
02:01You can add an additional backup payment method, such as a credit card, which can
02:06be used if your balance falls below zero.
02:09You may use your new PayPal Debit MasterCard anytime you shop online, or even at
02:13ATM machines, which is really convenient. PayPal may charge you a little bit
02:18of a service charge for taking cash advances on your debit card,
02:22but if you use the debit card feature when making a purchase, and requesting cash
02:26back, you'll be fine, and you won't be charged any additional fees, other than
02:30what the merchant might charge you.
02:33Your daily spending or withdrawal limit is something you can also discuss with
02:36PayPal customer support directly.

Adding email addresses and phone numbers
00:00You may wish to receive money through various e-mail addresses, and you can add
00:04additional e-mail addresses to your account at any time.
00:07You can also add additional phone numbers to your account, which will help
00:10PayPal reach you in the event that they have something important to discuss
00:14with you, such as in the very rare instance where there might be unusual
00:18activity on your account.
00:20In order to do these things, you can go ahead and click the on Profile option and
00:24then you can add or edit an e-mail address.
00:26Let's go ahead and do that.
00:28I am going to go ahead and click on the Add button right here, and then I will
00:33add the e-mail address.
00:34Now, it says I can add seven more, so I am going to click Save, and then the new
00:42e-mail address will appear here.
00:44A confirmation e-mail has been sent to that address, and then I'll need to confirm
00:48that e-mail address before I can start using it.
00:51Once you receive the e-mail from PayPal, you'll need to open it up, and you'll want to
00:56go ahead and take a look at it.
00:57Read through the e-mail, and then make sure you go ahead and confirm your e-mail address.
01:01You will need to enter your PayPal password at this point to make sure that you
01:05really are who you say you are.
01:08Now that e-mail address has been confirmed. If we go back to the original window,
01:13and we take a look again at Add or Edit Emails, you'll see the two e-mail
01:17addresses there, and both of them have been confirmed at this point.
01:21To add additional phone numbers, go to your Profile, and then go ahead and click
01:25on add additional phone number here: Add or Edit Phone Numbers, and then you'll
01:29see your primary phone number there.
01:31Then you can click Add, and you can go ahead and select the type of phone number,
01:35and then put it in here.
01:38Optionally, you can add an extension number.
01:43You can add more phone numbers if you wish, but this gives you the basic idea of how to do it.
01:47It's important to note that PayPal is constantly monitoring your account, and in
01:52the event that there's anything at all suspicious going on with your account, or
01:56any unusual activity, they will use these telephone numbers to reach out to you,
01:59so make sure you keep them up to date.
02:02Now that you've added an additional e-mail address, you can receive funds through
02:05any of your e-mail addresses that are registered to your account.
02:09If you're like me, and you have many e-mail accounts, you may find it very helpful
02:13to go ahead and register all of them now.
02:16Having a mobile number is helpful, not only with being alerted about potential
02:19fraud on your account, which is critical when something might go awry, but also
02:24helpful when using PayPal's mobile features, which will only be enabled if you
02:28have a mobile number associated with your account.

Managing your account notification preferences
00:00I am now receiving well over 200 e-mails each and every day.
00:06If you are like me, you would like to cut out the e-mails you really don't want
00:10to read, and continue to receive the very critical e-mails that you would like to read right away.
00:15PayPal allows you totally control this within your profile.
00:19Let's click on the Profile link, and then go to More Options here at bottom.
00:23Once you are in the More Options, you will see a section called My Settings.
00:26Since I recently visited it, it's the one that automatically came up by default,
00:31so you would have to click on it if you were going there for the first time.
00:34If you have a mobile phone, you can set up push notifications, which means that
00:38you will receive text messages about your PayPal activity. Which I have to
00:41caution you, I have tried, and it tends to get a little bit disruptive since I
00:45get so many payments through PayPal.
00:48But what you can do is adjust the e-mails that you receive.
00:51So let's click under Update Notifications, and go through them one at a time
00:55and talk about them.
00:57I do like the idea of receiving news, but receiving news about PayPal isn't
01:01necessarily something that I really need, so I don't wish to receive
01:05newsletters and updates on their services. I can go to the Web site and learn
01:08more about them myself.
01:09I definitely don't want to receive solicitations from third parties, so I will
01:14opt out of partner marketing.
01:16I am not a developer; I do hire developers, but I am not actually a programmer,
01:21so I don't really wish to receive any marketing about developer programs.
01:25And you can see here that policy updates is not optional; you have to receive
01:30them. PayPal requires it as a matter of policy.
01:33Over here, you want to be notified whenever you receive money, and therefore
01:37PayPal does not make that optional either; you can't turn it off.
01:40Anytime you have requested money with PayPal, you can also receive an e-mail, and I
01:44don't really need that.
01:45If send someone a money request, I know I did it, and I don't need to be reminded.
01:50Then, anytime you receive a PayPal Web site payment, you can be notified as well.
01:54And clearly, that's another thing that PayPal feels is not optional, so they don't
01:58let you turn it off.
02:00If you use plain text e-mail readers, you can go ahead and turn this to Plain
02:04Text if you'd like, but since I generally read my e-mail on a Smartphone, I want to
02:08see them in HTML, so I'll leave it there.
02:11And then customer surveys; I honestly and truthfully find surveys to be an
02:15important part of life, especially for some businesses, but I really get so many
02:20of them, I don't have time to review them anymore, so I am going to turn that off that as well.
02:24Any sort of changes that will occur to your account, you would be notified
02:27about as well here.
02:28And in the last section, you will see an option turn off intuitive ad choices.
02:33Now, I don't really know why this is an option at all, because it make sense to
02:37me that if I can't turn off ads, which is what it says here, I guess I would want
02:41to see ads that are tailored to me, so I will leave that on.
02:44I also do not want to share my information with any other companies, so I am going
02:48to turn this off right now, and then click Save.
02:51Once I have made these changes, and by tweaking the Notification Preferences,
02:56now you can receive only the critical e-mails from PayPal that are going to
03:00matter most to you.
03:01For smaller users, you can turn everything on, because you are not going to get
03:05that much e-mail anyways.
03:07When you get big, and you are handling a large volume of payments, you may prefer
03:10to turn off a lot of these features so that you can focus only on the things
03:14that matter to you, and not get too distracted by a flurry of e-mails.

5. Using PayPal Mobile
Getting started with PayPal Mobile
00:00PayPal offers a strong array of services for mobile phone and mobile device users.
00:05Mobile devices are growing in popularity at a tremendous pace, and you can easily
00:10use PayPal with your device to send and receive payments.
00:13You can use PayPal in a mobile browser by pointing it to m.paypal.com.
00:20From there you can send money, you can link a card, like a debit or credit
00:24card, you can shop on eBay, or you can set a PIN number that you will use to
00:29secure transactions.
00:30You can also link a mobile number that you can use for texting transactions to
00:35the PayPal network, or using your mobile app.
00:38Additionally, you can click on this button right here, and go ahead and download
00:41the PayPal Application for your device.
00:44I am going to login now, and show you how to link your mobile number to this application.
00:52Let's go through the process of adding a mobile number to our account.
00:55So first of all, we need to click on the link that says Link a mobile number.
01:00I can choose a mobile number that's already linked to this account, or I can add a new one.
01:04I am going to go ahead and add a new one.
01:07Now a text message will be sent to my mobile device, and I will need to confirm
01:10that number that's sent to me.
01:12Once I have received the confirmation code, I will enter it into this browser, and
01:16then I will click Continue.
01:18Now, each time I use the mobile app, I'll need to use a PIN number.
01:22So I am going to go ahead and create a PIN number now.
01:25Once I have created the PIN, I am ready to use not only the mobile browser
01:29with my mobile phone for text messaging and things like that, but I can also
01:33use the mobile application.
01:34You can learn more about the mobile options at the regular PayPal Web site, or on
01:39the mobile browser here, and there are applications that are available for
01:42download for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry devices by visiting the application
01:47store or marketplace for your particular device.
01:51If you prefer, you can also use SMS to check your balance, send and receive money,
01:56and manage your account with simple text message commands.
02:00To find these commands, visit your PayPal Profile online, and then click on the
02:04Add/Edit Phone Numbers option, and then click on the link that indicates that
02:08there is a text messaging option available.
02:11Now, once you download the PayPal app, you will sign in, and then you can look
02:14around and see the various features offered by it.
02:17To configure the settings for your mobile app, click the Gear icon on the upper
02:20left-hand side, then click Settings.
02:23Bump allows you to literally bump hands with another PayPal application user, and
02:27send a predetermined amount of money quickly and easily.
02:31You can turn the Bump feature On or Off.
02:33Click Profile, and use the Fundraiser application option to raise money for
02:39causes that matter to you.
02:41You can also set your Login Duration period from 2 minutes to 72 hours, that way
02:46you are not constantly having to login over and over again.
02:50Optionally, you can set up your own small business to indicate that you accept
02:53PayPal, and you can be included in the handy app directory that lets customers
02:58quickly locate you by clicking on the PayPal local option within Setup.
03:04You can also configure Push Notifications, which I don't necessarily recommend
03:08for high volume sellers, because you might go crazy with all the flood of
03:12notifications coming in through your PayPal account.
03:14But you can turn on and off specific types of notices;
03:19this basically means you will receive a Push Notification to your phone when the
03:22app is not presently running on the telephone or mobile device.
03:27Now let's go back and look at a few more things.
03:29Here in the Help Center, you can find all sorts of handy information about how to
03:33use your mobile application.
03:36You can take a look at your account history by clicking the History button, and
03:39you can see all of the transaction history on your account.
03:43You can see payments you have sent, and filter them, or received payments, and
03:47filter those, or you can take a look at requested payments as well.
03:52When you are using your mobile application, you will always see your PayPal
03:55balance there at the top of the app, and then you will be able to see quickly and
03:58easily how much money you have in your account.
04:01With PayPal mobile applications, you will have the ability to process the same
04:05types of transactions with PayPal mobile as you would with the classic site, with
04:09a few special enhancements.
04:10You can electronically capture a paper check, and then place those funds into
04:14your PayPal balance, which is a pretty cool additional feature offered through the PayPal apps.
04:19I will walk you through some of these handy features in the rest of this course.

Sending and receiving money through the PayPal app
00:01I'll walk you through sending and receiving payments through the PayPal
00:04mobile application.
00:05It's pretty straightforward, so let's get started.
00:08First of all, I'll send some money to a friend of mine, and then I'll need to
00:11pull up the application, and then click the Send Money button.
00:15Then you'll see the interface here where you can use either an e-mail address,
00:18or a mobile number.
00:19Now, that mobile number needs to be associated with your friend's PayPal account,
00:23otherwise, they won't receive the funds.
00:26If I want to send some money to someone who's in my address book, I'll click
00:29this icon right here, and then I select someone from my address book.
00:33You can also use this handy feature which is called Bump to connect.
00:37Bump to connect means that you can bump another mobile device that uses the same
00:41application, and the funds will be quickly transferred using the Bump feature.
00:47Now, I've entered the e-mail address of the person receiving the money, and I went
00:51ahead and put in the dollar amount, plus, you can select the currency type.
00:54So, if the person you're sending money to is overseas, maybe you'll be sending
00:58it in a different currency.
01:00I'm using U.S. dollars.
01:02Then, you can review the transaction.
01:04You can enter an optional note. Then click Send.
01:11It's really that simple.
01:12Now the money has been sent to my friend.
01:14You'll now automatically be taken to the History link, which will show you the
01:18history of the transaction that you just completed.
01:20I'm going to go back to the Home screen, and show you how to request a payment,
01:25which is just as easy.
01:26I click in this box right here.
01:28I'll fill in the e-mail address.
01:31I put in the dollar amount for the request.
01:34Then I click Review.
01:36I can put in an optional note. Then I click Done.
01:41Then I click the Request button, and the money request will be sent to my friend.
01:46I'll automatically be taken back to the History link, and I can see
01:49that transaction there.
01:51I've found that Bump is a pretty great feature to use, and particularly handy when
01:55using my mobile device.
01:56I'd like to caution you that when you're using mobile apps that you carefully
01:59review dollar amounts, and the person you're sending the money to.
02:03When you're dealing with financial matters of sending or receiving funds,
02:06you will want to make sure that you take your time, and check the e-mail or
02:09phone number, and make sure that the exact dollar amount is the amount you
02:12want to send.

Working with others using the app
00:00The mobile application for PayPal has a handy tool to help you split a dinner
00:05check with one or more people.
00:06The assumption here is that you'll be the person paying for the check, and your
00:10guest or guests will be reimbursing you through their PayPal account.
00:14There's also times when you want to be able to collect money from multiple
00:17people at the same time, and I'll show you how to accomplish both of these tasks.
00:21First of all, you need to click Split Bill.
00:25Here in the interface, go ahead and enter the amount of the actual dinner check.
00:31Then enter the tip amount.
00:33If you're a generous tipper, you might want to tip more than the 15%; that's the default.
00:38Then indicate how many people were at dinner.
00:41Two means you, plus one other person.
00:44You can also optionally enter more people if you want to.
00:48Then go ahead and click Request money.
00:52The PayPal app will go ahead and calculate how much each person owes.
00:56Then click the button that says Add Request, or click right here, and you can add
01:00people from your address book.
01:03You can see here that I've added one person, and it shows the amount that they owe me.
01:08Now I can click Review.
01:10I can enter an optional message here as well. Then click Done.
01:17Now at this point, when I click the Request option, a money request will be sent
01:21for exactly half of the money for the dinner. Then click Done.
01:25Now you'll automatically be taken to the History link, and you'll see the
01:28request right there.
01:30To request money from several people at the same time, but you also need to do so
01:34for reasons other than a dinner or lunch check, such as sharing a grocery bill
01:38with your roommates, you can also use the Collect Money feature on the app.
01:42Simply click Collect Money.
01:44You'll see a similar interface as the one before, and in this time you can go
01:47ahead and enter in the dollar amount.
01:50Then you can enter an optional note.
01:55Then you click here to add the contributors.
01:57You can indicate how many people will be paying you.
02:00Then you'll say here how much per contributor, and then you can click Next.
02:06You'll see yourself at the very top, and then you can assign people to the
02:09other contribution boxes.
02:11I'm going to use my address book, but you could just as easily enter
02:15information directly, such as a mobile number, or an e-mail address that's
02:18associated with the PayPal account.
02:21If you enter an e-mail address that's not already associated with a PayPal
02:24account, the other person will be notified that they can sign up for PayPal.
02:28You can use these handy sliders to adjust the amounts if you want to.
02:33If you change your mind, you can click Reset, and it goes back to an equal
02:37share for each person.
02:38Then you click Review.
02:40Go ahead and review the screen, and then click the Request money option.
02:44Money requests will be sent automatically to both people, and you'll see the
02:48History link show up again.
02:50These handy tools allow you to settle up what's owed to you from family, friends,
02:53and business colleagues.
02:55The uses are absolutely endless, and you'll find these features quite helpful
02:59once you start using them.

Finding businesses that accept PayPal
00:01There are a lot of PayPal friendly businesses near you, and the mobile
00:04application for PayPal makes it easy to find them.
00:07The nice thing about mobile devices is the handy built in geolocation that
00:12pinpoints your position on the planet, and helps you find these local companies.
00:17These days we take geolocation for granted, since almost every Smartphone has it
00:21built in, but in years past, this was a big expensive deal, and only big
00:26companies in the military could afford it.
00:28Now you'll be on your way to convenient PayPal shopping with your PayPal
00:32mobile application.
00:34First of all, you need to be signed into your application, and then click on the
00:37Local option right here.
00:40Then you'll automatically see a list of businesses in the local area.
00:44You can scroll through and see which companies accept PayPal as a method of payment.
00:48I noticed some familiar companies on the list right here.
00:52Now at this point, if you'd like, you can go ahead and select the Filter option
00:55here, and you can filter businesses that are within 1 to 30 miles.
01:01You can also filter to show only businesses that are open at this time.
01:06Something to consider, and this is pretty important: just because a business is
01:10registered for the Local feature on PayPal does not necessarily mean this is a physical store.
01:16Some registered stores are only online, and it's a good idea to call them on the
01:20phone before you drive on over.
01:22So, when you're desperate for that late night fix of delicious vanilla ice
01:26cream, but you can't find your wallet, it's time to pull out your mobile device,
01:30and go hunting for a market that takes PayPal.

Depositing checks with PayPal Mobile
00:00PayPal Mobile has a pretty super feature that lets you process a check
00:04electronically, and fund it to your PayPal balance.
00:08Let's go ahead and see how this works.
00:10First of all, you'll need to press this option right here: you see this button?
00:14And you'll see a little menu pop up that allows you to do a few things.
00:18Now, if you wanted to just transfer money back and forth between a bank account,
00:22you can do that right here, and select this option, and go ahead and fill in the
00:25amount that you'd like to transfer.
00:27However, what I want to show you is unique to the PayPal app.
00:31We're going to add money from an actual paper check, which is really super handy.
00:35Click over here, and click Add a Check.
00:38Then what you'll do is you'll use your camera phone to go ahead and process the check.
00:43So let me go ahead and do that.
00:44I'm going to take a picture of the front of the check first.
00:48Now I'm going to take a picture of the back of the check, and you should sign
00:51the back of your check, or mark it For Deposit Only.
00:54Then I'm going to click Use.
00:57Now I'll go ahead and enter the amount of the check, and then click Process Check.
01:02It reminds me that my check is being processed, and it could take up to 6 business days.
01:07Then I'll click OK, and that's all there is to it.
01:11Within a few days, the funds from this check will be processed electronically,
01:15and then placed into my PayPal account.
01:18It's very handy, and you can bypass having to first deposit this check to your
01:22bank, and then transfer the funds over.
01:24It cuts out one step in the process.

6. Using PayPal Shipping
Setting up your shipping information
00:00PayPal offers a fantastic shipping service.
00:03After you receive a payment, you can use PayPal shipping to create prepaid
00:07shipping labels, pay for insurance, create packing slips, also create customs
00:12forms, and even create multiple shipping labels at once.
00:16Now, let's talk a little bit about eBay, because eBay is super popular, and
00:21PayPal is often used with eBay, it's important to note that eBay has an easy way
00:26to print a label without going to PayPal.
00:28It's called the Print Shipping Label option.
00:30So if you click on the Print Shipping Label option from any eBay page on a
00:35completed successful listing -- of course you have to be logged in -- you'll go
00:39ahead and see a dialogue that will allow you to go ahead and print a shipping label.
00:44Here's an example of a Print Shipping Label option on eBay.
00:47Now, when you use this option, you will not have to go directly to PayPal to
00:51ship this item out.
00:52You'll be using eBay's built in shipping interface, and then the fees will be
00:57billed to your PayPal account separately.
00:59However, if you receive a payment on your PayPal account, and you'd like to go
01:03ahead and ship that item out,
01:05there is a Shipping Label option that you'll see right there, if you look on the
01:09very first transaction. You can go ahead a click that option, and make a shipping label.
01:13Before you can start shipping, we need to go through and set up some
01:16preferences for our profile to make sure that the shipping is enabled properly,
01:21and that we can ship both United Parcel Service, which is UPS, and the United
01:24States Postal Service.
01:25We'll go ahead and click on the Profile, and go down to More Options, and let's
01:31walk through this step by step.
01:33Then we'll go to My selling tools here at the bottom.
01:37Then here at the bottom of this section, let's go and click on the Shipping
01:42preferences, and go ahead and click Update.
01:44Once you're inside of the PayPal shipping information profile, you'll want to be
01:48able to set this up.
01:49So, we'll be talking a little bit more about these settings, but let's first go
01:53ahead and set up a UPS account.
01:55Now what does that mean?
01:56If you already have a pre-existing UPS account, and you get special discounts
02:01with that UPS account, you can go ahead and add an existing UPS account right now.
02:06If you need to add a new account, you can also do that here too.
02:10So if you're somebody who's never used UPS before, you'll need a UPS account
02:14number to ship through PayPal.
02:16It's very quick and easy to get one, so let's go ahead and click on this link right here.
02:21In the next section, you have the option to put in an existing account number,
02:24which you can put in the first section right here. Or, if you do not already have
02:28one, you can register for one right now.
02:35Then I'll scroll down, and fill in the rest of the information. Then, in the next
02:42section, I'll indicate approximately how many packages I expect to ship each week
02:46for the different types of shipping packages, like ground, air, or international.
02:51In the next section, I can indicate if I ship hazardous materials, high value, or
02:55breakable goods, or if I act as a shipping authorized outlet; you know, one of
02:59those drop off outlets, like the UPS store.
03:02I don't do any of those things, so I'll go ahead and click Continue, and
03:07then I'll go ahead and click Continue again to confirm that I want my UPS account number.
03:11Now I need to go through and read the agreement. You can print this if you want
03:15to, and if you're done, you can go ahead and click on I Agree.
03:18This is the agreement with UPS and you.
03:21Once you've set up all this information, you'll now have your very own UPS
03:25account number, and if you take a look there, you'll see that the UPS account
03:29number has been assigned to this PayPal profile.
03:31This also can be used to ship UPS parcels anywhere.
03:35You can go ahead and use that UPS account number that you've received to ship a
03:39package on UPS.com as well.
03:41It's not strictly for use on PayPal.
03:43If you have any questions, call 1-800 -PICK-UPS, and they can assist you.
03:47Let's go to the next sections. You want to indicate if you have a preferred
03:51shipping carrier, and since I use the United States Postal Service the most, I'm
03:55going to go ahead and save that as my preferred carrier.
03:59Also, if you expect to offer returns to your buyers, and you want to make it
04:03easy for them to return a parcel, you can set up a prepaid return option for
04:07them, and if they decide to use it, you'll be charged for the shipping charges
04:11to your PayPal account.
04:12I do offer returns, and I'm going to go ahead and save that as one of the options
04:16for my PayPal profile.
04:18Let's look at the last item here, which is the Display Ship Button.
04:22When you receive different kinds of payments, you can offer a button on your
04:25profile that allows you to create a shipping label, and in most cases those
04:29are for things like goods, or eBay items, but I also want to offer a ship
04:34button for services, and cash advances. And the reason for that is sometimes
04:37people send a PayPal payment for an item they're purchasing, but they've
04:41pressed the wrong button.
04:42So I'm going to go ahead and click on here, and save that as an option.
04:45That way every type of payment I receive, I'll see a Ship Label option.
04:50Now, I've just walked you through the process of setting up your shipping
04:53profile, and creating a UPS account number; both very important for your PayPal shipping.
04:59Now that you've set these options up, you're ready to get started with
05:02your shipping process.

Creating shipping labels
00:00There are many different ways to print shipping labels, and what I mean by that
00:04is that there are many different types of printers on the market, including Laser
00:08or Inkjet, which most of us probably already have, or possibly a label printer.
00:14If you work at a company, many firms own special UPS label printers that print
00:18directly on self-adhesive continuous labels.
00:21Your PayPal account can be configured to print on a variety of printers,
00:25including those types of printers.
00:27So I'm going to take a look on eBay, and find printers that will print
00:30with PayPal shipping.
00:31I'm going to type in some keywords, and then click Search.
00:37Now, the first thing I see are some continuous label printers, and I can tool
00:42around on eBay and find an appropriate printer for PayPal shipping.
00:45I can contact the seller, and make sure that it's the right type of printer.
00:48For someone who has a high volume business, you'll definitely want to consider
00:52using one of these types of printers when you're using PayPal shipping.
00:56Now, I'll show you how to configure one of these printers on your PayPal profile.
01:00If you're using a standard, regular Laser printer, or Inkjet printer, I would
01:05recommend getting these half sheet shipping labels, and you can find those on eBay as well.
01:10The half sheet shipping labels allow you to print two labels on one sheet.
01:14They're self-adhesive, and they peel off, and then you can apply them to a box.
01:18Now, to set up the different types of printers, you'll want to go into your
01:21Profile, just like we did before, and go to More Options.
01:26Under My selling tools, which is the link there on the left hand side, we'll want
01:30to go up to the Update Shipping Preferences.
01:33Now, in this section, we've already made changes to this, and set up our
01:37profile, but there's one last thing that we need to modify, which is the Printer Settings.
01:41I'm going to go ahead and click here on the Printer Settings.
01:44Right now, the default is a Laser or an Inkjet printer.
01:48With the default, you can start printing right away.
01:50You don't need to make any changes at all to your computer, and at this point,
01:54if you do have a label printer like the one I showed you on eBay, you'll want to
01:57go ahead and select Label Printer, and then you do need to download the Java
02:01Runtime Environment.
02:02Now, Java 2 Runtime Environment is right here.
02:04You can click on it, and you can download it from the Web.
02:12Now that we've installed the Java 2 Runtime Environment, we can go
02:15ahead and select the printer type that we have.
02:18Now, if you use a standard UPS style label -- you know, the kind that is provided
02:22for you by UPS; they give them out for free.
02:24All you have to do is call their toll free number, and they're going to be 4 inches
02:27by 6 inches, and usually they work in one of the Zebra brand printers.
02:32I'll go ahead and just select one right here, and then I'll click Save, and now
02:36you're set up to use a Zebra printer with your Profile.
02:40It's that simple to make changes to your PayPal profile to modify it to make
02:44printer labels, and print on the type of printer that you own.
02:47Now, since we'll be using a standard laser printer, I'm going to switch this
02:51back over to standard laser or inkjet printer labels, and I also want to print
02:55receipts with every shipment, so I'll click Save, and I'll modify it and change it back.
03:00So it's that simple to change it back if you want to.
03:02Most likely, you'll be using the plain paper option, and you can always buy
03:05self-adhesive labels that you can use with this option.
03:09But if you're stepping into high gear, you may also wish to explore using a
03:12continuous label printer, which will enhance your experience, and make printing
03:17large volumes of labels far quicker, and then you can peel and stick them on your
03:21boxes, rather than using scissors and taping them to the box.

Printing labels
00:00In this movie, I'll walk you through three things:
00:03printing a UPS label, printing a domestic postal service label, and printing an
00:09international post office label.
00:11I'm showing you all three of these so you will be adequately prepared to handle
00:15virtually any type of shipping that may come up.
00:18So to start the process, I'm going to go ahead and click on the Print Shipping
00:21Label option right here, or if I want to, I can always find the shipping option
00:26from the Details page.
00:28Since this transaction is not related to an eBay auction, I'm going to go ahead
00:33and ship directly from the PayPal interface.
00:36If you've sold this item on eBay, you'll want to go to eBay to ship it, because eBay
00:40has a built-in shipping system.
00:42Now, you can see here that the payment has been completed, and it's for a
00:46confirmed address, so I'm safe to ship this out, and I have a confirmed address,
00:50and all I'll be covered by PayPal's seller protection program.
00:53Now I scroll down, and I'll go ahead and click on the option here for
00:57Print Shipping Label.
00:58Optionally, if you want to include some paperwork with the shipment, you can
01:02go ahead and click here, and print a packing slip, and a handy little packing
01:06slip will show up, and you can click Print, and go ahead and include a copy of
01:10this with your shipment.
01:12When you are done, you can go back to shipping your label.
01:14Once you are done printing the packing slip, you can click Print Shipping Label,
01:19and in the next screen, you are reminded that PayPal does offer multi-order
01:23shipping for up to 50 Post Office labels at one time.
01:26If you would like to make any edits to the shipping address, you can click here,
01:30and go ahead and edit that.
01:31You can also make edits to the address you are shipping from.
01:34So if you are at a hotel, or if you are on the road, and you need to change the
01:37ship from address, you can do that too.
01:40Now let's go to the next section, and you will see that the default shipping
01:43carrier is the Post Office, and I'm going to change that around, and make that UPS.
01:50I'll check the box there, and because I usually ship through the Post
01:53Office, I'm not going to set that as the default method, so I'll go ahead
01:57and click Continue.
01:59Now I have UPS as the method of shipping.
02:01There's different kinds of services offered by each carrier, depending on the
02:06amount of money you are willing to pay, and how fast you want it to get there.
02:09You might want to take some time to study these different methods on their
02:11Web site, or give them a call.
02:13I'm going to use UPS Ground, which is the economy method.
02:16I'm going to scroll down, and I'll take a look at other options.
02:19I am using my own packaging, and the weight of this parcel will be one pound,
02:24and the box is 6 by 6 by 12.
02:28The ship date can be some date in the future, so I'll go ahead and put tomorrow,
02:32and you will see here that an e-mail will be sent to the person who paid me once
02:36I go ahead and process this shipment.
02:38So it's important to note that the person who paid you will get an e-mail
02:41confirming the tracking number.
02:43I can also opt for UPS Delivery Notification, which means I'll receive an e-mail
02:47confirmation when the package is delivered.
02:50If I require a Signature Confirmation, I can choose that right now.
02:54Since the parcel was less than $250.00 in value, I'm not going to need a
02:59Signature Confirmation.
03:01If you've sold something of higher value, and it's more than $250.00, you
03:06definitely need to use the option of Signature Confirmation, and definitely
03:10want to add insurance.
03:12I'm going to go ahead and put in a declared value of $1.00, and then if I want to
03:15offer optional Saturday delivery at an additional expense, I can do that, and a
03:20message to the person I'm shipping the package to.
03:26Then I'll click Continue.
03:28I'll need to go ahead and confirm the shipping cost, which you will see right
03:31there on the screen.
03:32If I'm happy with how much I'm spending on the shipping, I can go ahead and pay
03:35for this label, and click Continue.
03:39Now the label has been generated.
03:41Here at the bottom of the screen, you will see the UPS shipping label right
03:44there, and you can go ahead and click Print Label, and send it to your printer.
03:49Once you've printed it, if you've use self-adhesive paper, you can just apply
03:52it to the box, or you can use a strong tape, and apply that label to the box with tape.
03:58Then I'll click Continue to go to the next page.
04:01Now at this point, you can make a request for a UPS on-call pickup, or you can
04:06drop this off at the nearest location of a UPS store or UPS authorized outlet.
04:12Now I'm going to go back to the My Account, and show you a couple other things. Here we go.
04:16We see the transaction right here --
04:18that's the one we just shipped out -- and we go to the bottom of the screen. We have an option.
04:24We can reprint the label if we want to, and that's easy to do, or we can void
04:28the label, or we can ship another package.
04:31Now, I'm going to void this label a little bit later, because I'm going to make
04:33another label, but I'll click here: Ship Another, which is the same exact
04:37process if I want to make a Post Office label.
04:39So, I'm going to go ahead and make a Post Office label, and this time I'm not
04:43going to go through all those steps.
04:45I'm just going to show you very quickly, you can see that the US Postal Service
04:48is the default carrier.
04:50I'm going to use Parcel Post, which is similar to UPS Ground in cost, and then
04:55I'm going to go ahead and indicate that it's a package.
04:58If it's irregular in size, I need to go ahead and indicate that as well.
05:01I'll put in my weight, and also let's talk about delivery confirmation.
05:06I recommend using delivery confirmation with every package.
05:09It's very important,
05:10because you need proof that an item has been delivered.
05:13That's automatically been added here for $0.19.
05:16If you use Priority mail or Express mail, it is absolutely free of cost.
05:20If the item is over $250.00, I'll need to spend the extra $2.05, and use a
05:25signature confirmation, because that is necessary in order to take advantage of
05:29the seller protection policy.
05:31I don't want my buyer to know how much I paid for postage, so I'm going to opt
05:35to not display the postage on the label, because I also charge for the box,
05:40and for the packing materials.
05:42I can use insurance with the Post Office, and I definitely want to use that if an
05:46item is of high value.
05:48If I want to do that, I can just click here, and then put in the value of the
05:51parcel, and indicate what that cost is, and what I'm going to also do is enter a
05:55message to the recipient, and then click Continue.
06:00Now the label is ready to go.
06:01I can see the cost of the shipping there.
06:03It indicates the package is $5.10.
06:05$0.19 for the delivery confirmation, and $1.80 for insurance. The total shipping
06:11cost is $7.09. Then I can scroll down, and I can indicate which printer I'm going
06:16to send this to, and you can change the printer if you want at this point, and
06:20then I'll click Pay and Continue.
06:23Now at this point, the label will show up in a new tab, and if you have pop-ups
06:28enabled, you can go ahead and see it in a pop-up.
06:30Then you will be able to print a sample label, and I highly recommend you do
06:34that for your first label of the day, and then you can click Print Label, and the
06:40label will be sent to your printer.
06:41You can go ahead and print that label out, and it's ready to go.
06:46If the label was successful, and it looks good, you can click Okay here, and you
06:51will be taken back to the PayPal user interface.
06:54Now, you can request a free carrier pickup through the Post Office if you want to.
06:59You will need to go ahead and put all your information into the USPS Web site.
07:02Now, we will be talking a little bit more about this in another movie, so I'll
07:06just go ahead and close this tab, and I'll go back to My Account.
07:10Now, the last transaction that I'm going to show you is an international label.
07:14I'm going to walk through this pretty quickly, but I'll show you the process.
07:18You can click Print Shipping Label, and you will be able to see that the
07:21transaction is an international one; a cross-border trading transaction,
07:25and something is a little bit different here.
07:27You will see that because this was an eBay auction -- something that I sold on
07:31eBay -- PayPal automatically transfers me over to the eBay shipping system.
07:37Now, when I go ahead and fill all this information in -- I can change the weight,
07:41put in the weight of the package, double check the address.
07:44I can add additional services if I want to, and then I can go ahead and indicate
07:49here if I want to display the postage; all the same things that we looked at
07:52earlier, and if I want to, I can change my printing preferences on this page.
07:56I'll see the total cost of the shipment, and I can review it.
08:00Click Review, and make sure everything is correct, and then I can click Continue.
08:10At this point, my label had been purchased, and it's ready for printing. Then I go
08:15ahead and click Print Postage Label. Because I went ahead and I downloaded Java 2
08:20Runtime Environment, I can now see the label, and I can go ahead and print it.
08:24The label has the customs form already on it, and everything has been neatly
08:28prepared for me, and is signature ready.
08:31Now, it is important to ensure that you are securing these labels that you
08:34print with strong tape.
08:35Making labels this way will also guarantee that you are in compliance with the
08:39requirements of the shipping carrier.
08:41With the convenience of home-based pickup, you also will never have to leave
08:45home to ship a parcel.

Ordering shipping supplies
00:00I'd like to share some advice and tips about reducing the cost of shipping.
00:04The United States Postal Service offers free priority mail and express
00:08mail boxes, envelopes, and mailers on their Web site at USPS.com.
00:13You can also obtain free supplies at UPS.com.
00:17Although the selection of supplies is limited, these supplies can really help
00:21cut the cost of your overall business operation.
00:24The first thing I'm going to do is show you how to register on the sites, and
00:27order these supplies.
00:28So in order to register for UPS, you'll need to pull up your UPS account number
00:32from your profile, which I'm going to do right now, And I click on the Profile
00:37option; I go down to where we set up our UPS account number, and you can see it
00:41right there on the screen.
00:42Then I'm going to go ahead and copy that.
00:44I'll make a copy of it, and then let's go over to UPS.com, and click on New User.
00:51I'll go ahead and put in my name, and fill in all my information.
00:57I'll go ahead and accept the user agreement, and click Next.
01:02Put in my address information, and then I'll opt in for the e-mail options, and
01:08then I click Submit.
01:10Now that I'm registered, I can go ahead and click Continue now.
01:14Now I can order supplies.
01:16I can go over to the Shipping tab here, and I'll go down to Order Supplies, right here.
01:21Now I'll need to go ahead and add my UPS account number.
01:25See? There's nothing there.
01:26I'll go ahead and click add another account, and I'll paste the one in there.
01:30Then I'll go ahead and put in my ZIP Code, and I'll make that my default account.
01:37Now that I'm set up, I can go ahead and order supplies, and what I want to do is
01:45order some stickers.
01:46So right now I'm going to go over here, and I'm going to take a look at stickers.
01:49Now, you can see there's a lot of different supplies available in here, and I'm
01:54going to go ahead and order some labels.
01:55So what I'm looking for are these labels right here, which I can use for PayPal or
02:00eBay shipping with UPS.
02:02I'm going to go ahead and click the box here, and then I'll go down here and add
02:07to my order, and then once I do that, you'll see that it's been added to my order
02:11right there, and then I can go up to the top of the page and view my order, and
02:16then I can go ahead and check out.
02:18Once you've added the items to your order, you can go ahead and click Continue
02:21and submit the order.
02:24Once that order is submitted, you'll receive those supplies, and they will shipped
02:26out to you very promptly.
02:28You can use these labels with PayPal shipping.
02:30They're very convenient.
02:32So let's go ahead and take a look;
02:33there are some other supplies that you can order here, and if you want to look
02:35through them, you can.
02:37You'll find all kinds of different things, from blank forms, and tags, to
02:40packaging, to pouches, and everything in between.
02:43There's even UPS envelopes for overnight shipping.
02:46Let's go over to USPS and do the same thing.
02:49I'm going to go ahead and register, and sign up for an account there, and this
02:53will be for my business, and I'll go ahead and pick a username.
03:00I'll check the name to make sure it's available, and it is, and then I'll put in a
03:03password, and I'll put in a security question, and I need to retype it.
03:10And I notice that I need to retype my password too, and then I need to put in a
03:14second security question, and the answer.
03:20Then I go ahead and put in my information here.
03:22Then I click Create Account.
03:26Now I'll receive an e-mail confirming my registration.
03:30I'll need to go over to my e-mail and double-check it, which is right here, and
03:34you can see here that it's confirmed, and then I can go ahead and sign in.
03:39Once you're signed in, you can order supplies.
03:41So I'm going to go over to the USPS Web site, and I'm going to take a look at the
03:46supplies that are available.
03:47So I'm going to click on Shop, and I'm going to order free boxes right here.
03:52Now, there's a lot of free boxes available.
03:54I often use flat rate boxes and things like that, but I'm going to go ahead and
03:58take a look at these.
03:59You have just a ton of different options, and if you want to scroll through them,
04:03you can, and take a look at them.
04:04If you click View All, you can see a whole bunch of different free
04:08packaging options for you.
04:11What I'm going to do is order just a standard, flat rate Priority Mail box for
04:15board games, because apparently they offer these cool things.
04:18This is nifty, so if you're shipping board games --
04:20I'm just going to order one for this demonstration, and you'll see that I've got
04:24the two things that I've asked for here in my checkout, and they're totally
04:28free; there's no cost.
04:29Then I go ahead and agree to the terms of the agreement here, and then I make
04:33sure my address is good, and then I go ahead and click Continue.
04:38Once I do that, I will be able to submit my order.
04:40I'll just have to go ahead and double-check it, and click Submit.
04:43My order has been processed.
04:45I can print the order if I want to.
04:47The free packaging can only be used for the carrier that gave it to you.
04:51Now, for the United States Postal Service, other uses are actually a federal offense.
04:55For example, you can never use those boxes to ship UPS.
05:00I find the Priority Mail and the special flat rate boxes and envelopes offered by
05:04the post office are truly a superior way to ship, and get items to you buyers
05:08fast and affordably.
05:10For light items, I really find the priority mail offers a superior price point,
05:15and you'll definitely want to look at shipping items under four pounds by
05:18priority mail before you consider UPS.
05:22I used UPS or Parcel Post for heavier items, and bear in mind that a box can cost
05:27a lot; sometimes even a few dollars per order.
05:29So being able to eliminate the cost will be a quick way to increase your overall
05:34customer satisfaction, and sell more items for lower shipping fees.

Arranging a shipping carrier pickup
00:00Something important to realize about shipping carriers is that they pick up.
00:04As a retail customer of the post office and UPS, you're probably used to having to
00:09wait in long lines to have your parcels shipped out for you.
00:12Now that you're moving into e- commerce, you're going to have preferential
00:16treatment from these carriers, and they're actually going to pick up the packages
00:19from you at your home or your office.
00:21I'm going to walk you through the procedure for making a pickup request
00:24from both carriers.
00:26From the UPS.com Web site, you'll look on the left hand side, and you'll
00:30see Schedule a Pickup.
00:31You'll click on that link, and then you'll want to indicate the type of packages,
00:34and if you have pre-printed labels.
00:36Then you click Continue.
00:39Then you're going to want to indicate what the payment method is.
00:41That's for the charges for making the pickup, and there is going to be a small fee.
00:46Indicate if you have pre-printed labels, and then enter in the tracking numbers
00:49of those labels, so that UPS can make a record of them in their system. And it
00:54will also indicate here that there is going to be a pickup charge that will
00:57apply to this pickup.
00:58Then let's go to the next section, where we can say where we're going to pick
01:02up the packages from.
01:03You can pick up from your UPS account address, or you can use a different
01:07address if you want to.
01:09Then indicate who should be the point of contact, what room or floor, and if
01:13it's a residential address.
01:15Then put your phone number in there.
01:17So fill in all the information about packages: how many you have, and the types
01:21of packages you have as well.
01:23That way that the person coming over is prepared, and that they have a big
01:26enough truck or vehicle to pick up the parcels that you need.
01:29If you have any heavy items, you need to indicate that as well.
01:33Then indicate here when they're going to be picking up.
01:35If they're going to be picking up sometime in the future, indicate the date
01:38there, up to a week in advance, and the earliest and latest times they can come.
01:43Also, the preferred pickup location, and in this case it will be the front door, and
01:47any reference number that you want to indicate here.
01:50Now, if you have a pickup reference number, you can enter something simple,
01:53such as eBay Auction.
01:56You can also put special instructions here, and then go ahead and indicate if you
02:01need any pickup notifications.
02:02That means, if you need to be notified when somebody picks up the parcel.
02:06So you can receive a text message if you want to, by putting in your cellphone, or
02:12you can receive notifications at an e-mail address.
02:14I'm going to go ahead and click Next.
02:17I'll go ahead and review the charges.
02:19There's an $8.08 charge for making the pickup.
02:21That's a convenience fee, and if your time is valuable, and you don't want to
02:25wait in a 30 minute line to drop off a package, then you can go ahead and use
02:29this pickup service.
02:30Let's go to the next screen, and then click Next, and then we're going to go ahead
02:34and confirm the pickup.
02:36This pickup confirmation screen shows you all the details, and you'll get a
02:40Pickup Request Number.
02:41You can go ahead and modify this Pickup Request Number, or cancel it if you wish.
02:46The next thing I want to show you is a United States Postal Service carrier pickup.
02:50You'll need to be signed into the Web site to ship a package, so let's go ahead
02:54and click on this link right here, and then click Schedule a Pickup.
02:58In the next section, go ahead and fill in your information, and you should
03:02indicate where they'll be picking up the parcels.
03:06Go ahead and fill in your City, and your State, and your Zip Code.
03:13The system will then validate your address, and you'll want to use the
03:16new validated address.
03:18If there'sany additional notes that you need to give the driver, you can go
03:20ahead and check this box.
03:22Then you'll want to indicate the date for the pickup.
03:26Then how many parcels you have, and the estimated weight.
03:36Then go ahead and check this box to indicate that you've read the policy
03:39statement, and then click Schedule a Pickup.
03:42The pickup has been scheduled.
03:44A carrier pickup from the shipping carrier will save you precious time.
03:48Although the post office offers a free pickup, and UPS charges something,
03:52both services offer this highly convenient program that makes your e-commerce
03:57endeavors timesaving and profitable for you.
04:00Consider the value of your time before you wait in line, and the fact that
04:04the last time I went to the post office, I waited 22 minutes in line to ship one parcel.
04:09So I decided to do it all on the internet, and let my fingers save me a
04:13tremendous amount of time, which translates into more money.

7. Reviewing Transactions
Using the basic search feature
00:00Occasionally, a buyer may contact you, and ask a question about an order. They
00:05might ask about a tracking number for something you've shipped, or you may
00:09simply wish to look up a transaction on your account, just to see how much money
00:13you've received, or the total fees that you've paid to PayPal.
00:17You can conduct basic research on PayPal using the History option, and there's
00:21a basic search option there by going over to History, and then clicking on Basic Search.
00:26Now, on your home screen, you'll always see the latest payments that you've
00:29received, but using Basic Search, you can dive a little deeper.
00:33You have the ability to look at Recent Activity here, or you can simply go to All
00:39activity, and put in a date range.
00:43You can use this selection tool to change the date range, or you can just put it
00:46in through the Calendar tool, which is right here.
00:48So if you want to look at specific date ranges, such as payments that might have
00:51been received on one day, you can certainly do that.
00:58Or, using the pulldown menu, you can look at an entire month.
01:02Let me show you some additional filters.
01:04You can take a look at all activity that affects your balance, or even requests
01:09for money that have come from other people.
01:11Now, here's a More Filters option, and this is something that will allow you to do
01:14a lot more powerful filtering.
01:16You can take a look at all kinds of information here, such as, here's an
01:20example: payments that have been received to specific e-mail addresses
01:24associated with your account.
01:25So if you have more than one e-mail address on your account, you can go ahead and
01:29click on this options, and just see the payments that have been received for that
01:32specific e-mail address.
01:34So if you're tracking payments for a specific e-mail, and you'd like to create a
01:38printed report, you can quickly click on the Print option here, and a report will
01:42be generated and sent to your printer.
01:44Some of the other filters that you can look through, if you want to take a look
01:49at some additional options, are things like refunds that you've issued to other
01:52people, or you can go down further, and look at items that need to be shipped out.
02:00There's a lot of different other filters, and you can explore those on your own,
02:03but basic research can be conducted using this tool.
02:06You'll be able to quickly find transactions by type or date, and open and review
02:11them using this simple tool here.
Collapse this transcript
Using the advanced search feature
00:00This will sound a little cliche, but there are times when a simple search just
00:04isn't good enough, and you'll want to find PayPal transactions using criteria
00:08that may go beyond a date, or transaction type.
00:12With the advanced search feature, you can locate transactions quickly using a
00:15variety of search inputs.
00:17Now, before we get started, I want to show you that I've gone ahead and I've
00:21created a document on Notepad that shows four different types of searches, and
00:27I'll walk you through each of these in just a moment.
00:29But I've gone ahead and done that so we can just simply copy and paste the
00:32information, and we're going to find the exact same transaction four different
00:35ways, using an advanced search feature.
00:38First, I want to click on the History option, and go to Advanced Search.
00:42The first option is to search by e-mail address.
00:45So I'll go over to the Notepad, and I'll copy the e-mail address that I have here,
00:51and then I'll go back to the browser, and I'll paste it in to the search box here,
00:55and then I'll click Search.
00:56Now obviously, you can see here there's additional features, such as date range.
01:00If you want to narrow the date down, you can certainly do that.
01:03The transaction I'm looking for is this one right here.
01:05Now let me go ahead and show you a different way to find the same transaction.
01:10I'm going to go ahead and copy the transaction ID number.
01:14Now, you'll see the transaction ID number here in my little Notepad document, and
01:19that matches the one on the transaction that you see in front of you.
01:21I'm going to go over to History, and do an Advanced Search again, and then I'll
01:26copy and paste that into here. And then I'll go to Transaction ID number this
01:30time, and I'll click Search.
01:32Notice that the date range has been grayed out, which indicates the transaction
01:36ID is not something you can search for by date.
01:39It's a very specific, unique transaction ID number that is completely unique to
01:44an individual transaction on PayPal.
01:47There's the transaction again.
01:48We're going to go ahead and look it up two more different ways.
01:51One is by last name, which is Spencer, and I'll go ahead, and I'll look it up by Spencer.
01:57So let's take a look at that.
02:00I'll go ahead and paste the word Spencer in there, and look it up by last name,
02:04and you can see the same transaction right here.
02:09Now we're going to try one more search, and we're going to search by last
02:12name, then first name.
02:15Then we go over here to History, and then click on Advanced Search, and then paste it in here.
02:20Then we'll select Last Name, then First Name, and we'll click Search again.
02:28Now this time we found the same transaction, again, using a different type of advanced search.
02:33These are some of the examples of advanced searches that you can do under the
02:37History link here. And there's some additional methods of searching for advanced
02:42search features, such as by currency type, which you can see here.
02:45The different types of currencies; so if you've received a transaction in
02:49Canadian Dollars, Euros, or some other form of currency, you can go ahead and
02:53filter by those methods.
02:55You can also change the date range if you'd like,
02:57if you'd simply like to look for a specific date range. And there's other
03:00features here that allow you to look stuff up by Invoice ID number if you've
03:04sent the person an invoice request.
03:07If it's an eBay transaction, you can quickly look it up by the eBay Auction ID
03:11number, which is called the Item number on the listing page, or you can look up
03:15other types of transactions as well.
03:18Now, you've been armed with the knowledge you'll need to find any transaction on your account.
03:22This essential knowledge of advanced searching will improve your customer
03:26interactions, because it will allow you to quickly find a transaction when
03:29discussing it with your clients.
03:31If you buy a lot of items, it will also help you locate purchases quickly
03:35and efficiently.

Downloading your transaction history
00:00PayPal is a secure network, and your personal information is extremely safe.
00:05However, you may wish to share the information from your PayPal account
00:09about your income or payments with a bookkeeper, a business partner, or possibly a spouse.
00:15There are tools that will help you connect this data with programs such as
00:19Excel, QuickBooks, Quicken, or other programs that use industry standard file
00:24formats, such as Comma Separated Values files, or Tab Delimited files.
00:30We're going to take a look at this, and I'll walk you through the process.
00:33First of all, let's go over to the History link and look at Download History.
00:38Because you might have a lot of transaction history in your account, the request
00:43will be queued up, and then what will happen is PayPal will notify you, and
00:46provide you with ability to download that file.
00:50They say that it can take up to 24 hours for the log to be processed, but
00:54usually I find that is not really the case.
00:56It usually happens in a much shorter timeframe.
00:59For the purposes of this demo, let me walk you through a few of the steps.
01:02First of all, you need to put in a custom date range, which is the dates in which
01:06you want the transaction download.
01:08Secondly, you should customize the download fields.
01:11There's really no reason to download information that you're not interested in.
01:15So let's scroll through and take a look at them.
01:17You're going to want to customize some of these fields, such as item ID.
01:21Perhaps you want to include that, but maybe you don't need all this
01:24additional information.
01:25I definitely do want to know the shipping and insurance amounts, but maybe I
01:28don't need all these extra stuff.
01:31Maybe I want to report sales tax, and I don't really need a phone number.
01:35What I'll also do is scroll down, and take off some additional fields, just to cut
01:38down the size of the report.
01:41Once I'm done making these changes, I can click Save.
01:45Now the system will only generate a report with the fields that I have selected.
01:49I'm going to walk you through a very simple report; just one day.
01:53I'll go ahead and change this to the 5th, so I'll just be reporting on one day,
01:57which is October 5th, and you have different types of files.
02:01You can download All Activity, Completed Payments, or Payments that affect
02:05your PayPal balance.
02:06I'm going to go ahead and take a look at just Completed Payments, and I'm going
02:10to use a Comma Separated Values file.
02:13This is a file that's easy for me to open up in a program such as Excel.
02:17If you use Quicken or QuickBooks, you might want to use those file formats, and
02:21you can see those right below. Or, if you just want a printed report that you can
02:24look at and print it out, you can use a PDF.
02:27That's another very convenient and universal way to share information.
02:31Since I'm actually going to be loading this up in a custom piece of software, I'm
02:35going to go ahead and use the Completed Payments for Comma Delimited.
02:38If you just want to download transactions from the last time you've made a
02:42report, you can use the next section, and select the options there, and if you are
02:46integrated with a Shopping Cart, you can include the Shopping Cart details by
02:50clicking this option, and then click Download History.
02:54Now at this point, your request will be queued up, and you will be notified when it's ready.
02:59Because PayPal has a lot of customers, they'll need to notify me by e-mail, and
03:03let me know when my report is prepared and ready for downloading.
03:07Now at this point, I'll click Continue, and I'll go open up my e-mail, and I'll take
03:11a look around and see what came in.
03:12Now, the first e-mail that I received shows that the log is available for download.
03:17I'll go ahead and click on that e-mail, and it says to download your log, please
03:22login to your PayPal account by clicking the link below,
03:24so I'm going to do that.
03:25I'll click the link.
03:27You'll need to sign in to PayPal if you're not already signed in, and you
03:30can click Download Log.
03:33Now, at this point, you can save this to your computer.
03:36So what I'm going to do is save that to my exercise files folder, and I'll go
03:40ahead and click here and click Save, and then I want to open this up and take a look at it.
03:45Now, all the transactions that were downloaded are in CSV file, which means
03:50they're not properly formatted yet, but what I can do is adjust the column
03:54widths, and make it clean and nice, and make this report nice and attractive, so
03:59that somebody who's looking at it might think, wow, Christopher's such a pro.
04:03He really knows how to make reports.
04:05So I'll go ahead and go through the different fields, and clean them up a little bit.
04:08You'll be receiving data in raw format, so fields such as numbers will need to be reformatted.
04:15If you'd like to learn more about Excel, you can go ahead and check out some of
04:19the courses here on the Lynda. com Online Training Library.
04:23So I'm going to go ahead a clean up this format, and make it look real good.
04:27Once I'm done formatting my report, and making it as attractive as I possibly can,
04:32I will go ahead and save it as an Excel file.
04:36So I'll go over here to Excel workbook, and I will rename it, and there you go.
04:43So I'm going to flip back over to PayPal, and talk a little bit more about this.
04:48So again, if you want to download in other formats from the Download History
04:51link, you can integrate with things like QuickBooks and Quicken, and that's a
04:55very, very helpful thing to do.
04:57If you don't want to have to key in a lot of information, you might want to use
05:00that for your accounting software.
05:02You'll find the various history download options very helpful in running your business.
05:07Imagine being able to quickly import all your PayPal information into income
05:11statements in QuickBooks, and save endless hours of data entry, or be able to
05:16breeze through sales tax returns with ease, because all the data is neatly
05:20organized for you through the history download options on PayPal.

Pulling down statements
00:00Sometimes you'll want a convenient statement of activity from PayPal, so you can
00:04quickly view a clean snapshot of what you have been doing in terms of buying and selling.
00:09With the statement download option, you'll have the ability to review this
00:12data quickly and easily.
00:14You'll need to be on the site for at least a month, so the data will be
00:17accumulated and ready to view in a statement format.
00:21First thing you want to do is go to the History option, and look at Basic Search;
00:25you can find the statements from here.
00:27The next step is to go and put your mouse under the More option you'll see right here.
00:32Now, under More, you'll see options for Monthly Account Statement, plus you can
00:36export the transactions in front you in various different formats, and download
00:41the history from your PayPal account. This is a quick shortcut to do that.
00:45Any time you're within this menu, and you've done a search, you can also print or
00:49download to CSV; whichever you prefer.
00:52To get a Monthly Account Statement, you'll need to click over here.
00:56Since this is your first time using this interface, you'll need to go ahead and
00:59select to receive Monthly Account Statements, and click Save.
01:03At this point, you can view the most recent statements. You have three months
01:08right here, and you can go ahead and click the one you're interested in. I'm
01:10going to use September, and I'm going to go ahead and view it.
01:14You can use this menu to change the currency type if you wish, and see the
01:17different statements for the different currencies that you're holding, plus you
01:21can scroll down into the list, and look at the various different days.
01:25If you want to see the actual transaction history, you can click on one of this
01:29hot links, and take a look at it.
01:31That'll bring up a list of transactions that are related to that date on your statement.
01:35I'll go ahead and click this button to Move to Recent Activity.
01:39Now I can pull up another statement; let's take a look at it. I'll click here.
01:42I'll go back to statements, and look at a different statement. I can click View.
01:47Now, within the statement, you can scroll through, and you can go ahead and
01:52download the transaction details for that statement, or you can get a printable version.
01:57The printable version is formatted to be optimized to print on a standard
02:01piece of paper, so on a laser printer, or inkjet printer, you can go ahead and print this.
02:05Then you click Print, and it'll print it out for you.
02:08Once you're done printing, you can go back to close the window, and return back to
02:12the statement itself, and you can generate other statements, or download
02:15additional information.
02:17If you've decided that you no longer wish to receive monthly statements, you
02:20can click this option here, and click Save, and you no longer will have
02:24statements generated for you.
02:25Your most recent monthly statement is ready after the 10th of the current month,
02:30and is available for three months.
02:32The statement includes all PayPal transactions, plus starting and ending balances.

Issuing a refund
00:00You can issue a refund on a PayPal transaction up to 60 days after it's received,
00:05and conversely, as a buyer, you can ask a seller for one in the same time frame.
00:10To refund money to someone through PayPal is very simple and easy to do.
00:14There are some important considerations.
00:17If the buyer paid with a credit card, their payment is refunded to their debit
00:21or credit card, and it may take up to 30 days for the refund to appear on the
00:25buyer's credit card or debit card bank statement, which is what PayPal quotes on their Web site.
00:31However, that's pretty rare. In reality it takes a lot less time than that.
00:35If the buyer paid with a bank account, or a PayPal balance, the payment is
00:39refunded to the PayPal balance, and not the bank account it came from.
00:43You can always turn around and have the buyer transfer that money back to the
00:47bank account if they so choose.
00:50That sometimes causes some confusion for buyers, because they think that the
00:53money will go back to the bank statement, and it doesn't.
00:55They have to actually proactively transfer that balance out.
00:59To refund a transaction, you go to the History page, and click on the Advanced
01:03Search link, and you can look up the transaction by name, or by some other
01:08method, like e-mail address.
01:10I'm going to use name, and I'll look up the transaction here by last name,
01:14and then first name.
01:16When I find the transaction I'm looking for, which is right here --
01:19I'll click on the link; the hotlink that takes me to the details page.
01:23I want to go ahead and scroll through and make sure that this is the
01:26transaction I want to refund, and you'll see an indication here that there is
01:30actually a refund option.
01:32It also says there's 60 days to refund the payment.
01:35Click on the Refund option now, go ahead and enter a comment if you wish, or a
01:40subject line, or an invoice number, or anything you want to do there.
01:46And then you go ahead and hit the Continue button, and then you can issue the refund.
01:53If 60 days has already elapsed, you can go ahead and click on the Send Money tab,
01:58and you can enter all the information there and refund the payment. However, you
02:02won't be refunded any of your PayPal transaction fees.
02:07Refunds are super simple and straightforward.
02:09In the event that a buyer initiates a dispute on a transaction, which is pretty rare,
02:13refunds will need to made through the Dispute console.
02:17You may be new to the world of digital payments, but it's important to understand
02:20how to issue refunds when you need to.

8. Managing Disputes
Understanding the basics of disputes
00:00Sometimes life isn't going to turn up all roses, and when things go wrong, it's
00:04important to know the exact rights that you have, and the methods of resolving a
00:08dispute with another person on PayPal.
00:11For buyers, you have forty-five days within which to dispute a transaction
00:16for non-delivery, or because the item that you received didn't match the ad.
00:21It's extremely important that you first contact the seller and try to work it out.
00:26It's considered impolite, and not very reasonable, to start a dispute on PayPal
00:31before giving an honest seller a chance to resolve the problem informally.
00:35So you do have a whole month and a half to resolve it before being forced to
00:39file a dispute, so don't be impatient.
00:41Go ahead and try to work it out.
00:43For sellers, you must follow the following procedures for protecting yourself on
00:47any transaction, by consistently doing the same things on each shipment.
00:52First of all, be sure you're shipping to a confirmed address.
00:55You'll need to send the shipment out within the first seven days after
00:58receiving the payment.
00:59Also, you want to make sure that you're not shipping to an alternate
01:02address, even if the buyer begs you to do so, because you won't be protected by
01:06the Seller Protection Policy on the PayPal Web site.
01:10Be sure you're keeping proof of shipment with some form of online tracking,
01:14and if the shipment is over $250, be sure you go ahead and obtain signature
01:19for proof of delivery.
01:21Remember that any items that are picked up from you are never covered, and
01:24you must sell tangible products or tangible items if you want to be
01:28protected by PayPal.
01:30You'll also want to make sure that you're only receiving one payment per order;
01:33that's something else that PayPal requires.
01:36Ensure that what you're shipping out to the buyer is the exact same product
01:40that you represented.
01:41If you send a substitution, and they're dissatisfied, they'll have a right to
01:44return that item, or dispute the transaction.
01:48Whether you're a buyer or a seller, any dispute you're involved in will take
01:52place in the PayPal Resolution Center.
01:54That's right over here on the PayPal site.
01:57I'll cover this in more detail in a later movie, but in the interim, it's
02:01important to understand that you'll need to have a fair and reasonable case
02:05in any situation where you're asking PayPal to get involved and mediate a payment dispute.
02:10PayPal is helpful, but they're not going to act like your lawyer, or become a
02:14court of law for you in a complex dispute of any kind.
02:17They'll only be able to help you with the basic dispute resolution between you
02:21and the other party based on the policies they have on their Web site.

Keeping good records
00:00I've clearly covered what your requirements are in terms of PayPal seller
00:03protection, but I'd also like to cover some details about protecting yourself
00:08against chargebacks.
00:10I'm often surprised how relaxed sellers can become when dealing with thousands
00:13of dollars in virtual money.
00:16Perhaps it's because you don't see the dollar bills, and it doesn't seem that real,
00:19but I'd like to ask you to please consider maintaining good records, and
00:23protecting yourself against chargebacks.
00:25When shipping anything, be sure to pay for delivery confirmation with the Post Office.
00:30UPS automatically provides proof of delivery.
00:33For any items over $250.00, add a signature confirmation, and then put a big
00:38label on the box that states, adult signature required in order to ensure the
00:43carrier does not get lax about obtaining that signature.
00:46For any items that you're not willing to lose your investment on, please go
00:49ahead and ensure them.
00:51For some smaller, cheaper items, they might not warrant insurance, especially
00:54if you have a high margin, and you can easily replace it with another for your buyer.
00:59For ultra-high value merchandise, you may wish to video tape the packing of that
01:04item, and then keep that video, or a photograph, so that you have a record of what
01:08was put inside the box, in case you need some compelling proof at a later time.
01:13Online tracking only lasts for a certain period of time, so be sure to print a
01:17proof of delivery for a buyer who hasn't confirmed receipt yet through an e-mail,
01:21or through eBay through a positive feedback score.
01:25Generally, eBay and PayPal consider positive feedback a bulletproof shield
01:29against a chargeback.
01:31If you do accept local pickups, and you've received payment through PayPal, be
01:35100% sure that you do not give any cash back. And be sure you obtain a signed
01:41agreement or receipt with that buyer, with the full description of that item, the
01:45date and the signature acknowledging it was picked up by the buyer, and that they
01:49accepted the condition and the quality of the merchandise.
01:53Never accept multiple payments for items that you're shipping to strangers,
01:56unless you're comfortable with that person, since seller protection is voided
02:00when multiple payments are received.
02:02Keep your shipping documents for at least 90 days at a minimum.
02:06You may also wish to keep them for longer if the items are of a high value.
02:11I'd like to remind you that chargebacks are rare, and because you're an honest
02:15and an ethical seller, you're going to rarely have one.
02:18But be armed with good knowledge, and good recordkeeping skills, to protect
02:22yourselves against them.

What to do if an item doesn't arrive
00:00Okay. Despite the fact that the seller claimed it was shipped, it never came.
00:05Let's talk through what you should do as a buyer.
00:08First of all, bear in mind that USPS, the postal service, does not provide real
00:13time tracking, except with express mail.
00:16So the tracking information that you've received through eBay, or through their
00:20e-commerce site, may be accurate information, but it may not be timely.
00:24Usually, it's scanned at the time of delivery only, unless it's an express mail package.
00:30Be sure you're allowing ample time for things like media mail and parcel post,
00:34both of which take much longer.
00:36If you're in a U.S. territory, and you're not on the mainland, such as Hawaii,
00:41Puerto Rico, Alaska, and different places, please allow a lot more time, and be
00:46kind to your seller, because they can't always control the amount of time it
00:49takes for you to receive the item.
00:51As long as they've provided you with a valid delivery confirmation number, or
00:56tracking number, then go ahead and be patient while the shipment arrives.
00:59For cross-border shipments, give plenty of time.
01:02That parcel will need to go through customs, as well as be cleared by a customs
01:06officer before delivery.
01:08If you still feel you're not getting anywhere by contacting your seller
01:11directly, you can open a dispute, and I'll go ahead and show you that in a moment.
01:16You'll need to start that process within 45 days of making the payment.
01:20You have 20 days after you open a dispute to work it out informally on the
01:25dispute console, which means that you and the seller are working it out directly,
01:28although you have filed a claim.
01:31Then you will need to escalate it to PayPal management within that 20 day window,
01:35or it will automatically be cancelled.
01:38So if you don't feel like thing are working out with the other party, and the
01:41seller's not cooperating or communicating, you can't wait 'til it closes before
01:46you go ahead and escalate it.
01:48You'll need to do that before hand.
01:50If an item arrives broken, you might consider asking about insurance from
01:54the seller, because that may be your primary coverage, and not PayPal buyer protection.
01:59Be sure you take photos of items if they arrived broken or significantly not as described.
02:03Now, I'm going to walk you through a couple things: the first one is, I want to
02:07go to the eBay Web site, and because a lot of folks pay with PayPal on eBay, I
02:11want to show you the process of starting a dispute.
02:14I actually have an item that didn't arrive, and I make notes on my eBay account
02:18when an item does arrive, so I'll know which ones are still pending.
02:21So here's an item that didn't arrive yet, and I'm to go ahead and resolve a problem.
02:25I'll click on the Resolve a problem link, and you'll see some topics here, and you
02:30can go ahead and indicate what's happened, which is my item hasn't arrived yet.
02:35Then you can go ahead and report that you did not receive your item, which is
02:38right here, and I get a reassuring comment from eBay that says, eBay Buyer
02:43Protection has got you covered.
02:45We're here to help.
02:47So I'll scroll down, and I'll click Open a case.
02:50Now you can go ahead and follow along with the form.
02:52Did the seller try to help you with the problem? Are you currently trying to
02:55work it out with the seller?
02:57And you can say no.
02:59Explain what happened in your communication with the seller: no proof of
03:03shipment has been provided yet.
03:07Enter a phone number where we can reach you, and can we share your number with the seller?
03:14Yes.
03:15And how can we help you?
03:16I still want the item from the seller, and go ahead and open a case.
03:21You've opened a case for your transaction, and you can click here on the
03:24Resolution Center, and you'll see the information right there.
03:29If you'd like to, you can go ahead and click here to see the case details.
03:33At this point, you can add a message, or if you've resolved the problem with the
03:37other party, you can go ahead and close the case.
03:40You can see right there in the center of the screen, there's links for both of those actions.
03:44There's another thing that you can do, which is you can contact the other
03:48party by telephone.
03:49If you want to call them, you can go ahead and click Advanced search, and then
03:52use this form over here: Find contact information.
03:56You can find the contact information by entering the user ID of the member, and
03:59then the item number of the item that you're concerned about.
04:03Let's go through PayPal and look at the dispute resolution process here.
04:08You click on the Resolution Center, and then in order to open a case, you go over
04:14here to Report a problem, and then you click Report a problem right there.
04:20Indicate the type of problem you're having. In this case, an Item dispute.
04:24Then find the transaction ID by clicking this button right here.
04:29Once you've done that, you can click on one of the transactions that you need
04:33to dispute, and it'll be automatically populated into the form, and then you click Continue.
04:39Now you have a change to indicate what the problem is. In this case, you can say
04:43if you haven't received the item, or if you've received it, but it was
04:46significantly not as described.
04:48Once you select that, you'll click Continue, and then you'll see that dispute in
04:52the Resolution Center.
04:54If an item has insufficient tracking, usually a payment will be refunded to you,
04:58because PayPal will go ahead and find in your favor.
05:01Please remember to check with a neighbor in your neighborhood as many parcels
05:05are dropped behind fences, on porches, and with neighbors.
05:09The seller is only responsible if he or she failed to meet the terms of the
05:13agreement; not for packages that have been stolen of your porch.
05:17Work with your seller before starting a claim, and if you trade on eBay, request
05:21their phone number, and be sure to reach out to them by phone first.
