Let's start off chapter 7 with a quick one: Outlook has an underused feature called Outlook Today that shows you the day's tasks, along with your upcoming appointments. From your list of folders, choose the highest-level folder called Mailbox. It probably has your name next to it, too. Or if you're not connected to an Exchange server, this will likely be called Personal Folders. In either case, this is Outlook Today. In Outlook Today, on the left-hand side, you'll see your next seven days' or five days' worth of appointments.
The middle column shows you upcoming tasks, and the far right column shows you how many unread messages you have in each of the specified folders. You can customize what you see here with the Customize Outlook Today link in the upper right-hand corner. If you really dig this feature--and a lot of people do--you can configure Outlook to always start here when you open the application. The very first option under Customize Outlook Today allows you to check When starting go directly to Outlook Today. When you're done making any other customization changes, go ahead and hit Save Changes in the upper right-hand corner.
