So you're currently in California, about to fly to New York, where there you are going to have a 3 o'clock p.m. appointment, their time. How do we enter this on our California calendar? When you're creating an appointment in Outlook, you can click the Time Zones button on the Ribbon. This will add two additional fields for the start time zone, and the finish time zone, which are usually the same thing. Let's go ahead and create my appointment. Even though I'm currently in the California time zone, I am going to enter this as a 3 o'clock p.m. appointment for the Eastern Time Zone.
By specifying the time zone and hitting Save, Outlook automatically adjusts it on my California calendar, showing it as a 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock p.m. appointment. Note that this method of scheduling works seamlessly with meeting requests. If I invite someone to a meeting, Outlook will automatically adjust the start time based on each recipient's individual time zone when they look at the invitation. Well, what about the flight itself? That can get a little tricky, because of the way our departure and arrival times are displayed on our tickets.
Let me show you how this works. My flight is tomorrow, so I am going to go ahead and click here to create an appointment. I will double-click the Appointment and start modifying the details. By clicking Time Zones, I can specify the time zones for the start and end time of the appointment. The flight leaves at 6 o'clock p.m. Pacific Time and arrives the following day at 3 o'clock a.m. Eastern Time, and that's exactly what I am going to plug in to my Appointment details. When I hit Save, I will be able to see that the flight leaves at 6 and arrives at about midnight.
If I switch my calendar over to New York time, I can see that the flight actually leaves at 9 o'clock Eastern Time and arrives at 3 o'clock in the morning. With time zones under our belt, let's cover one more useful setting, the timescale, and for that, let's move on to the next video.
