CodePlex is a community site hosted by Microsoft. Microsoft doesn't post things on this site, instead they create this open space where developers, who are working on a wide range of Microsoft products, can post things that other people can use. While Microsoft doesn't review the items that are here other users do, and they move through a process where someone might post something and it's treated as an early release, an Alpha. As people start to use it and gain some confidence with it, then it can be rated as a Beta, or when it's in production in a number of locations then it's rated as a stable product.
A product that anybody should feel very comfortable downloading and using. We're going to take a look at the Word Content Control toolkit, which is a stable product for free on a CodePlex site. The URL for that product is dbe. codeplex.com and that brings us to the Word Content Control toolkit. You'll note over here that it is a stable product, that it's been in place for quite a while, and that has lots of downloads and it's rated very highly by the people who've used it, most of whom aren't programmers.
They're Word power users like you. You'll find also that there's a tutorial that's been provided; there are actually several of these, not just this one, on the Content Control toolkit and you can go take a look at other information information about the Content Control toolkit like all comments, when it was changed, and so on. I'm going to click here to download it. You'll have to agree to the license. If you haven't used things on CodePlex or other free open-source software, it's a good thing to understand what it is you're doing here, before you agree.
Then there will be an Installer package and you're going to be asked if you want to Save or Run this. If you save it, then you'll have to run it afterwards. If you've got a great Internet connection, you might as well just run it on its way down, It says the publisher can't be verified its unknown but it is from CodePlex and this isn't unusual, so I'm going to go and run this. Again, here's a limited license that says that we have a nonexclusive worldwide license to use this royalty-free.
You just read this and make sure that it works. It's as is software, we know that. I Agree and I'm going to choose Next and I'm going to go ahead and install this. I can either install this just for myself or for everybody who uses this computer. I'm going to install this just for me, click Next twice and it will take a moment. I'm going to go ahead and close Internet Explorer and it installs very, very quickly.
I'm going to click Close and now I have the Word Content Control toolkit on my computer. It will automatically place a shortcut on the Desktop, and since I'm going to use this just a little bit right now, I'm going to go ahead and leave that there, but you'll be also find that if you go to All Programs that it will be listed alphabetically in the list of programs at the top that are not contained in folders. In our next session we'll see how to use the Content Control toolkit to create a schema for our template.
