Once you insert a video into your presentation, you can jazz it up by giving it a fancy border that coordinates with your theme. Click on your video and then on the Video Tools Format Ribbon, click on the Video Border button, just to the right of center. Here, you can pick a color for your border. Right now, my border is very, very thin so this is very subtle. The colors up here coordinate with your PowerPoint theme. The standard colors are the standard ROYGBIV rainbow. I'm going to go ahead and pick this red.
Now, I'm going to go up to the Video Border button again. If you want more colors in addition to these, click on More Outline Colors and you can pick more colors off of the grid that appears. I'll click OK. Go back up to the button again and now take a look at the Weight. You can add anything from a hairline up to a 6pt think line. Go back to the button again, and now let's take a look at the Dashes. There's Diamonds, and Squares and Dashes and Dash-dots.
We're going to go ahead and go down to the bottom and choose More Lines. This opens up a Border Style dialogue box. I'm going to slide it off to the right hand side so that we can see our video. Notice that I'm on the Border Style section. Here's another setting for the Width. Here, I can go beyond my 6pt and make it even thicker. There's a Compound type in addition to solid, I can also have doubles and triple lines. Here's the Dash type again. This time I'm going to choose Long Dash.
The Cap type is the shape of each dash and dot. Right now, it's on Flat but I could also choose Square, and Round. Now my dashes all have round edges. For the Join type, look at the very corners. Right now, it's on Round. If I choose Bevel, they're very subtlety flattened out. And if I choose Miter then they're square. Now I'm going to go ahead and change this Dash type back to solid. Let's take a look at our Border Color.
I'll click on this button in the left hand corner of the dialogue box. If I don't want any line at all, I could click on No line and it puts it back to normal. Here's the solid line that I just set. Now, let's get into the gradient line. There's a whole series of Preset colors. You can try different ones for different color effects. I'm going to choose Late Sunset. The Type has Linear, Radial, Rectangular, and Path.
I'm going to put this back to Linear. Next is the Direction. The Direction box allows me to change the direction of the gradient. The Angle will spin it around. Now you can click this button until you like where your colors lie. Now the gradient stops give you full control over your colors. I can click on any one of them and change the color by clicking on this box right here. So, if I don't want this to be black, I can go ahead and I can make this purple.
I can drag it to change the position or I can use this position box by scrolling Up and Down to move it left and right. I'll click on the second one and I'll change the Brightness so instead of being a dark blue, it will become a lighter blue. I can also make it more transparent. Right now, it's solid but I can make it almost see through. You also have the ability to add and remove gradients. When you like what you see, close the dialog box and click off of your video.
Creating a border around your video provides visual interest, creating a stylized picture frame that color coordinates with your slideshow.
