Long gone are the days of wires. You can keep your bookmarks, calendars, and contacts synced with any iOS device, a Mac, and a PC. Because we are using Outlook, we can install a special iCloud Control panel Applet to sync our contacts and calendar with Microsoft Outlook. This is useful if you have an iPhone full of contacts and you would like to bring them over to Outlook, or just keep them synced on a regular basis. Now we are not going to do it here, but the first step is to sign up for an iCloud account on your phone and make sure your contacts and calendars are backed up to it.
The next step is to download the iCloud Control panel Applet and we do that by going to www.apple.com/icloud/setup. Now I am on a PC, so I am going to choose Set up now, scroll down a little bit on the page, and here is a Download link, to actually download the iCloud Control panel. You can click Download from the top right of the page and I am just going to run it.
It is going to launch, I am going to click Next to start installing it, and then Accept the terms of the agreement and choose Next. I am going to choose Install and choose Yes; that I want to let it make changes to my computer. If I get any prompts while it is installing, I am going to choose Yes. It is asking if I really want to install iCloud. Here's a definite warning, Outlook can't be running while this is installed. So if you did have it running, simply close out of Outlook and try it again.
Once it is all done installing, click Finish and after a restart, we can come back and configure it. Now that we have restarted our computer, let's go see what our iCloud Control panel Applet looks like. I am going to get into my Control panel by clicking on Settings on the right and going up to Control panel. To get to it quickly, in the top right Search box, I am just going to type iCloud. I can see that I have got something new here, so I am going to click on it.
To start, we have to sign in with our Apple ID, click Sign in and then you can tell Apple whether or not you want to send diagnostic information to them. I am going to click Don't send. This is what the applet looks like. From here, I can choose to select that I want to sync Mail, Contacts, Calendars, & Tasks with Outlook. Now whenever I make any of those changes on my phone or on my Desktop computer, they will stay in sync.
I can click on Apply and then I am done. So now you will always be in sync across all your devices and your Desktop computer.
