If your video has a romantic or elegant tone, you can soften its edges so that its appearance emphasizes the emotional content. I'm on the sixth slide of my presentation. Click on your video. I'll go up to Video Tools, the Format tab, and click on the Video Effects button. Hold your cursor over Soft Edges and a gallery of presets appears. The amount of blur goes from 1 Point, which is very subtle, down to 50 Points, which actually cuts into the outer edges of your content.
I'll click on 5 Points and now I'll have a nice soft edge. I can also create my own custom soft edge by clicking on Video Effects and going back to Soft Edges, and now choose the Soft Edge Options at the bottom of the menu. The Format Video dialog box opens and we're here on Glow and Soft Edges on the left. Soft Edges are the two settings at the bottom. The top button has all the same presets that we saw under the Video Effects button. The Size slider allows you to manually adjust the blur.
If I pull it to the left, the softness goes to 0. If I move it all the way to the right, the glow takes up most of the movie clip. I'll put it back to approximately 20. You may find it effective to type the values in that you want or use the arrows sliders. I'll put this to 20 point and then click Close. Here's how the presentation looks. Play your slideshow. Click on text in the transcript to jump to that spot in the video. As the video plays, the relevant spot in the transcript will be highlighted.
