Sending your Motion project to Compressor is a great way to export different formats, or even to your final output. Since it's actually sending your file to another application, if you wanted you could send the file to Compressor and then go right back into Motion and start working on another project. Obviously, this technique really works well if your machine has a decent amount of RAM and a pretty decent processor. But let's get started by sending this to Compressor. Go up to the File menu and choose Share. Now I really like this Share function because I can actually specify the compressions before I ever get into Compressor.
For example, if I want to export this with Apple ProRes 422, I can go ahead and choose that and then when I choose Send to Compressor, Compressor will automatically launch and you'll notice it's already got the file loaded up with a destination folder, Documents, and the file name. So if I click Submit, I can title this batch, if I wanted to submit more than one compression. But for now, you can title this batch and then click Submit. Now you notice as this is rendering, I'll just go right back to Motion and press Play, and Motion is just happily moving right along.
Now this happens to be moving a little bit slowly and that's just because I've Lighting, Shadows, and Reflections all going at the same time as I'm doing these camera moves. But as you can see, I'm still moving around right in Motion, while there is actually an export happening of my final project. And if you switch back to Compressor and see this exclamation point, do not be alarmed. The second you click Submit, this exclamation point will pop-up, letting you know that there is a file with that name already in that file path and that just happens to be this file that the computer is writing right now.
So with the new Share function and Compressor, you should have a whole new seamless workflow that you can incorporate into your Motion projects everyday.
