One of the things I like to do in Motion is animate stills. With the use of behaviors, it's fast and flexible. Let's look at the project, press F5 on your keyboard, and you'll notice I have a Pictures group with a couple of pictures, the top two are turned off, and the bottom one has a Throw behavior, Fade In/Fade Out and Grow/Shrink. Let's go ahead and click the Play/ Pause button, and see what we have got. So that's a pretty good move on this picture. So I like this behavior, so I would like to save it.
Let's go to the Library tab, and navigate to the Favorites folder. This is where you can save your custom settings. Since I like this move as a whole, go ahead and select all the behaviors. Let me click on the top one and Shift- click through all of them, and now just drag them to the Favorites folder, making sure to hold the mouse button down, and keep it down until the menu pops up. I have a choice to have it save as multiple files, meaning each individual behavior or self-contained all in one file. I'm going to choose All in one file.
And you notice by default it's named Untitled. So Ctrl-click on the behavior and choose Rename. Let's call this ZoomUp. Now that I have this behavior saved, I'm going to turn off the first picture, and turn on the second one. Let's make sure to deselect anything to do with the first picture, so we don't see the bounding box or the motion path. And drag the ZoomUp behavior to West_03. Now with that selected, go ahead and click Play/Pause, and you'll notice we've cleanly applied that behavior to the new picture.
Now for me, if all the images had the exact same move that will be kind of boring. So it's important once you've applied this behavior to another image, to go back and feel free and move things around. I'd just like to change to the angle of this move a little bit, so I'm going to click right on the Throw behavior and just make a slight adjustment. Opening HUD and dragging to the right a little bit. As you make these adjustments, I'm going to zoom out, Command+Minus. We always want to make sure that edge of your bounding box never goes off screen as your playhead reaches the end of the image.
And this one is working beautifully. Two down, one to go. Go ahead and drag ZoomUp, up to West_ 05 and then turn off West_03 and select West_05 and turn its Visibility on. Now since this is a vertical picture, we're going to have to be a little more careful with how we adjust the move. So instead of this one moving up, I'm just going to start playback for a second, and have it move down. Again opening the HUD, I'll rotate this around, and have it move down, which I sort to like better anyway because it will give the motion of looking up at the sky.
Go ahead and move the playhead back to the beginning and let's watch the move. Perfect. So now the last thing we have to do is just edit the photos in succession. Let's just stop playback and I'm going to drag the play range to take up the length of the composition, just by clicking-and-dragging. Now what we have to do is slide the pictures around in the Timeline. So press F6 to open up the Timing pane, just so we can see each individual picture. I'm going to collapse the behaviors, so I don't have to look at all of them, and turn on the visibility of each one of the images.
If we select the top two images, by clicking and Shift-clicking, you can easily just drag them down in the Timeline. If you Alt+Shift as we drag, it will snap to the end of the previous clip. Making sure to deselect West_03 and select West_05, do the same thing, just click-and-drag, and then after you start dragging hold down Shift. Now since I've reached the end of the composition and I haven't reached the end of image, we can just crank up the length of the composition just by clicking-and-dragging in the value well, and clicking-and-dragging the end of the play range to the end of the image.
Move your playhead back to the beginning and press the Play/Pause button, and watch our completed slideshow. So there is a quick way to animate your pictures by saving your custom presets and applying them to multiple objects.
