If you find yourself constantly changing the Export settings to the same setting, you might want to consider creating your own Export Preset. Now, there are two ways to do this in Motion, let's start with the first way. Go up to the File menu and choose Export. Now that the window is open, let's create a preset for a QuickTime movie. Go to the Options button, and since we know we are going to save a preset, it's important to rename the preset. I'll just call this QT-NoAlpha, because I want a preset where I don't have to export an Alpha channel.
It's also very important to rename the file because if you don't, when you go to save this preset, it will actually override the other default settings that were in the dialog box when we first click the Options button. So let me set up QT-NoAlpha. First off, we don't need this Compressor because it's specifically design to support Alpha channels. So I'll just change this to the High Quality ProRes 422 Setting. Now to turn off the Alpha Channel, we have to go to the Output settings and de-select the Use current project and canvas settings option.
This way I can override the settings in the project and also I can get to the options where I can turn off Color + Alpha channel. You can leave Premultiply selected or deselected. It doesn't matter. I'll just deselect for now. Now that we are finished all we have to do is click the Save As button. And you will notice now in the Use menu, QT-NoAlpha is already set up. That's the first way you can create your own presets. Let me click Cancel and show you the second.
In the Motion Preferences there is an actual category just for presets. Under the Show menu, we have an option for Project Presets. You can create Project Presets by clicking the + button or duplicating a preset. If you click on the Project Presets pop- up menu, you will notice there Export Preset. Let's go ahead and select that and scroll down. Now I want you to notice the Lock button next to all these different presets. These are the pre-built presets that come in Motion.
But if you want to change one of them all you have to do is press the Duplicate button. Now, you notice the other copy does not have a Lock button next to it. To edit this setting, just click on the Edit button. This is where we can rename the setting. Go through all of the same options we went through in the previous example. Since I don't need to do that, I'll press Cancel. So to delete any presets just select it in the list and press the Minus button. If you would like to create a preset completely from scratch, go ahead and click the + button and you will get the initial default preset options from Motion.
So for right now let's just click Cancel because we have covered all the basic settings to set up your own project preset and export presets in Motion.
