We are starting this video in Photoshop, because I want you understand exactly how Motion handles a layered Photoshop document. In the Layers tab, I'm just going to explore some of the different settings within this document. The Sky layer is set at 53%. If I turn it off and on and you can see how that's affecting the overall composition. I have a Glass layer that has a transfer mode on it, but its Opacity is at 100%, and then I have a group of two other layers up here at the top. The Imagine layer contains my text, and it also has an effect, which creates the Outer Glow on the letters.
Underneath that I have a GreenLine, which contains a Hard Light transfer mode, and its Opacity is at 53%. So let's import this into Motion and see what happens. Navigate in your File Browser to your Exercise folder, and in the Media folder go to the Psds folder. Finally we are at the Image_Board.psd. Let's drag-and-drop this on to the Canvas, but I want you to make sure the hold down your mouse and wait for a second for this contextual menu to pop-up and you'll notice Motion supports importing all the layers in my Photoshop document.
I can import individual ones directly out of the document, have it flatten all the layers into one layer, or import all layers as separate layers. Choose Import All Layers and press F5 on your keyboard to open up the Project pane. You'll notice here are all the layers from my Photoshop document. Motion has imported all the layers separately as one subgroup contained within this top group. Now it's introduced two other layers, and this is kind of what happens when you import a group of layers from Photoshop.
It doesn't really know how to group those layers and create its own little subgroup. So it created these strange boxes. Let's go ahead and delete those by selecting each layer and hitting the Minus button in the top of our Layers palette. Let's double-check some of the transparency and Transfer Mode settings. If you don't already have it open, press F7 on your keyboard to open the HUD. If we click on the GreenLine sure enough the Hard Light transfer mode is come through as well as the Opacity. Now when we check the Imagine layer you'll notice there is no glow left on the letters.
Motion doesn't support the effects generated out of Photoshop. If you want those in your Motion project you actually have to render those out in Photoshop. Let's check our Glass layer. Sure enough it has the Overlay blend mode and the Sky layer has the Normal blend mode. With Motion's ability to import layered Photoshop document, now you can take your design in a whole new direction.
