If you are a premium member of the lynda.com Online Training Library or if you are watching this tutorial on a DVD- ROM, you have access to the Exercise Files used throughout this title. You should see a folder called Exercise Files, and I recommend you drag it to your desktop. Inside you will see three additional folders. Additional Files, Avid MediaFiles, and Avid Projects. Additional Files and Avid Projects can stay right where they are at or you can put them anyway you like. Avid Media Files however must live on the root directory of whatever drive you plan on using for your media drive.
The root directory simply means it cannot be in OK.side any other folders. So in this case, I am going to use the D drive for my media drive and I would simply drag the Avid MediaFiles folder right to the D drive and copy it right there. You'll notice that I have already moved the Avid MediaFiles folder there. It's at the root directory, so it's not in any other folders and Avid will be able to read the media. Now let's go ahead and launch Media Composer.
Okay, when the software is through launching, you'll be presented with a Select Project window. Choose External and click on the Browse button to navigate to your projects. In my case, I still have it in Exercise Files/Avid Projects and OK. And then three projects will populate in this window. Urban Nutcracker Capture, Urban Nutcracker Basics, and Urban Nutcracker Full. The majority of the course is spent in Urban Nutcracker Full, so I'll select it and hit OK.
We'll certainly go over this in the course but just so you're aware, the bins at the top of the project are those that you can access throughout the course. The folders below them are where you'll spend most of your time in each movie. So if I was to work in the first movie of Chapter 3, I would go ahead and open up this bin here, Montage Selects, and begin working. (Music playing) Now if you don't have access to the Exercise Files, you can certainly follow along from scratch or with your own assets.
I hope you enjoy this course. Let's get started.
