In Avid Media Composer 5 Essential Training, author Ashley Kennedy demonstrates basic and intermediate editing techniques in Media Composer, one of the most widely used nonlinear, video editing systems. This course covers how to build sequences, mix audio, color correct footage, apply effects, and troubleshoot common post-production issues in Media Composer. Exercise files accompany the course.
Editing as with writing is all about revision, revision, revision. Effects and titles need revision too, so in this movie we'll take a look at how to bring the title back into Marquee so we can work on it some more. I showed this title to my producer and the feedback was that my shape should go across the entire lower part of the screen. My text for Artistic Director should match the yellow of the text here. Everything should be right justified on the right side of the shape because we are just a little bit too close to his face here.
So I'm going to bring this back into Marquee to make those revisions. I'm parked on my title. I have V2 selected. I'll go ahead into my Effect Editor and choose Edit Title. We'll make these revisions right here in Marquee. So I'm just going to drag the shape across the entire lower part of the screen. Do a little bit of resizing here and we want to make the Artistic Director text a little bit more yellow so I'm going to take my gradient and have the left part be yellow.
We'll go ahead and drag them to the right side of the object and I'm just going to do a little bit more tweaking here. Resize the top just a little bit. We'll see how the producer likes this title. So I am going to go ahead and save this out. Close Marquee. It will ask me if I'd like to save it to the bin. I choose OK.
It brings up the Effect Editor and as you remember, I didn't resize this title which is applied right here. So in most cases that's great, but in this case, because I want this object to go across the entire lower part of the screen, I am going to resize this back to 100. So I just click on my parameter slider, type in 100 on my numeric keypad, Enter. I'm going to reposition the whole thing. We'll go ahead and take this to the producer and see how he likes the revisions.
Let's play through and see how we like it. (Male speaker: Drosselmeyer and Mini-Meyer and that's one of the themes in the story is like...) Hopefully, the producer will like it. As you see, being flexible with title creation is a great strength of Media Composer and Marquee. It's really nice to be able to go back and forth seamlessly as you continue to hone and tweak your title creations.
