It's time to work with our title in Media Composer. In this movie, we will take a look at how to properly save the title and how to add it to our sequence. Now here is the Lower Third we created. I like it pretty well. So I am going to save it to my Media Composer bin. Come up here to File > Save to Bin and I am going to call it Tony Williams lower third. Because I had a Titles bin created, it put in there for me.
If you don't already have a bin created, you are going to have to create it or you are going to have to move the title into it. But I would highly recommend all titles being in their own bin. It also loads it into the source monitor automatically and what I am going to do is mark an In in the source and I have already added a video track to my sequence. If you haven't already, you are going to need to by Ctrl+Y or Command+Y on a Mac. And usually, you start the title just a few frames into the segment.
Mark an In, mark an Out. Now you can look up to the center duration to see how long that is. In this case it's three seconds and let's go ahead and just Overwrite. So I will hit B and there is my title. I will go ahead and play through and see how I like it. (Male speaker: Drosselmeyer and Mini-Meyer and that's one of the themes in the story is like...) Okay, there are a couple of things I would like to change. One is that I would like it to fade up and fade down. So I am just going to park in the middle and I am going to use the Fade Effect button.
Now this is found in the Fast Menu of the Timeline and it's this buttonright here. It's also in your Command palette, so feel free to map it to your keyboard if you like. I like to Fade Up and Fade Down by 8 frames. You can choose whatever you would like and I will hit OK. The other thing is that I would like to decrease the size and maybe move it just a tiny bit lower. It's hitting his face and I don't want it to do that. So again, I am just parked right in the middle of the title segment. I go into my Effect Editor and you could see that I have all of these parameters here to work with.
So I am going to go to Scaling and make the whole thing just a little bit smaller. Instead of using the parameter, I will just drag it down. There we go. And you can do anything you want as far as adjusting the position of the Scaling, the Foreground, the Crop, and just a hint, if you would like even more parameters, this box down here promotes it to 3D and it then gives you a whole host of other options you can use to manipulate your title. I like that.
It's positioned correctly. It's sized correctly. I am going to close my Effect Editor. Notice that it's changed to a Blue Dot effect. A title by itself is a Green Dot effect, which means that it plays in real-time, but sometimes when you make further manipulations, you may need to render it as it indicates here. So I will go ahead and render the title. Let's play through and see how we like it. (Male speaker: Drosselmeyer and Mini-Meyer and that's one of the themes in the story is like...) Because Media Composer and Avid Marquee are so well-connected, we are able to do these things.
Create the title in Marquee, bring it back in Media Composer, move it around and adjust it just how we like it, and that's the real power of the interconnectedness between these two applications.
