Now that we understand the mechanics of a walk, let's go ahead and animate a simple walk cycle. Now I'm going to animate this walk in sections. I'm going to concentrate on the lower part of the character, more specifically the hips and the feet. Now once I get this firm foundation, I'll go ahead and move up to the upper part of the character. Now to make this as clear as possible, let's go ahead and turn off that upper part of the character. I'm going to go ahead and turn off the head as well as the upper geometry and the controls for the upper part of the character.
And now all I have left is this lower part of the character. Now before we actually animate the walk we need to make a decision as to how fast the character will walk. For this exercise, I've decided we're going to animate at 16 frames per step. Now that means a total of 32 frames for two steps or one cycle. So as you can see, we're starting at frame one, which means we need to go 32 frames past 1 to 33, so we're going to animate from 1 to 33 for a total of 32 frames.
Now once we have that set up, we can go ahead and start animating the walk.
