Cutting out the hood, door, and trunk
Up until this point, we've been making the entire body of the car out of one solid mesh. Even though the doors, hood, and trunk are separate pieces in reality, it makes sense to start out with them together. This is because the curvature of the body is the same across those seams. Now that the body has been modeled, and we know that there are no major changes that need to be made to it, we can break apart these pieces. Let's see how it's done. So, looking at our reference, notice that the panels are basically rectangle shapes with rounded corners. When we model the body of the car, we placed the edges in specific places relative to these panels, so that they'll be easier to cut out. So, this trunk, for example. It's basically a rectangle with rounded corners. And, if we go into our model around the back side, you can see that there is edges that follow the shape of that rectangle.
