Get tried and true techniques for creating, styling, animating, and rendering hair with nHair in Autodesk Maya. Aaron F. Ross will show you how to prepare your mesh; control for stiffness, shape, and curl; trim and extend follicles; style hair with curves; and adjust color, translucency, and specular highlights. The last chapter shows you how to render nHair with Maya and mental ray.
Welcome to Creating Hair with Maya nHair. My name is Aaron F Ross. It's my pleasure to share with you the techniques for creating, styling, animating and rendering nHair. The N stands for nucleus, which is Maya's advanced dynamics engine that also supports cloth and particles. In this course, we will follow the following topics. Loading the preset examples, preparing a polygon mesh for nHair, controlling dynamic properties such as stretch and bend, adjusting forces, such as mass and drag, clumping, curling, and twisting hair.
Shading hair, including color, translucency and specular highlights. Trimming and extending hair, using start curves to design hair styles. Caching simulations and rendering in the Maya software and Mental Ray renders. Maya nHair is a powerful set of tools for adding realism to animated characters. Its integration with nucleus is an added value compared to Maya's stand alone classic hair system. Nucleus makes nHair relatively fast to simulate, and straightforward to setup. Let's explore the capabilities of nHair.
