Scott Pagano: So the create that whole city, what I've got these five building shapes. I just bring them into the scene. They're just laid right on top of each other just in the middle cause they're never going to be actually seen. So there's a lot of different ways to scatter instances in Maya, and like, there's V-ray scatter plugins and different techniques you can do to paint surfaces and stuff like that. But I wanted to make this sort of procedurally scattered city but, then bring that into Maya, but not bring it in as the full actual geometry. Because that's too heavy. These are the things that drive where those buildings are. And then I used a set of tools that expand the functionality of Maya and had some procedural like abilities and they're called soup. And you can see there's a couple of these nodes here that have these unique icons, and basically what's going in here; I'm taking this point cloud and piping it into Maya particle node, to then drive in, instancer.
