One of the easiest ways to start accepting payments in your Magento Go store is to use PayPal. And Magento Go also supports something called PayPal Express Checkout which basically means people come to your site, they can pay using their PayPal account or a credit card, and they can simply just send you money into your PayPal account, and the best part about it is a PayPal account is completely free. In order to access that you are going to go into your Payment Methods section of your Configuration dashboard. In order to get there just go to System and then go down to Configuration.
Once you're inside of the Configuration section, you want to scroll down into Sales and choose Payment Methods. Once you do that, it's going to take you to this screen and to set a PayPal Express Checkout is actually pretty easy, you just come right here and you can choose Configure, and once you're inside of the Configuration screen you can remove the email address that's there currently, because that's the email address you use to sign up for your Magento Go store originally. If this is not your PayPal email address then simply delete it. If you do not have a PayPal account yet, you can simply click here to create an account and it will take you to this page right here to set up PayPal Express Checkout.
It tells you there are three steps, you sign-up for a PayPal business account, it takes between three to five minutes to do, then you confirm your email address which means PayPal will send you an email and you will have to confirm that this is your email address, and then you add the PayPal Payment button to your site, or simply authorize Magento Go to do that. So let's go ahead and let's sign- up for a PayPal account here. Once I do that it's going to take me to the Express Checkout creation screen and I'll just choose Create New Account. I'm in the United States, I am speaking English, so I'll just go ahead and create a new account.
I first have to choose my business type. So in this case, I'm an individual, the email address that I want to use here, type in a password, then it's going to ask me a security question. Who is my favorite historical person? And let's go to question number two, who is your favorite author? And I'll enter in an author just like so. Now at the bottom you'll have to enter in this confirmation code, so that's just like so and we'll hit Continue.
Once I do that it's going to take me to step two where I enter an information about myself. So my online business or service it's going to be Big Robot Toys and the date the business was established, website URL, this is optional. So since I don't have a website URL right now, I'm not going to enter that. Category; Toys and hobbies. Subcategory; Vintage and collectibles, Do you sell digital goods? No, I do not. What will your average monthly payment volume be? Now this is just an estimate so let's do between 5,000 to 25,000.
What will your average transaction amount be? Probably less than $25, most of my stuff is about $20. What percentage of your annual revenue will come from online sales? Well, that depends if you have a brick and mortar store it might be less. If you have only an online store then it's probably higher than that. In this case, I'm pretty much 50-50, so I'll do 25% to 50%. Do you sell on eBay? Not currently. Your customer service email address, this is optional and if you click why it tells you that this is the email address that will appear on your customer's payment page as it gives them the opportunity to contact you if you have any questions about their order.
So you can put in a email address here, you don't have to. Owner contact information and we can do phone number, city, state and zip, and we'll click Agree and Continue. Once we do that I have now signed up for a PayPal account, and once I do that I should get an email, and inside of that email, I can then activate my PayPal account. Once you have activated your PayPal account you'll get another email, telling you you've successfully set it up, and if you click on the PayPal logo on the PayPal side, it should take you to the PayPal homepage.
I can log in and you can see now that everything is set up. So if I go back into my Configuration here, I'll just type in the email address that I used, I'll enable this solution, and I want to grant permission to Magento Go with PayPal. I'll click here, hit OK to the box that pops up, it's going to redirect me over to PayPal for just a moment. Once I get over there, it's going to ask me to log in again. So now you are going to agree to allow Magento Go to access this and process payments on your behalf.
Once you agree to that you'll have to come down and enter in bank account information, or you can enter in your business credit card. You can skip this and add it later or you can click Continue. Once you do that everything should be all set up, and I'll go back to Magento Go, go to My Account. Once I'm inside my account, I'll go to manage my store, inside of my store I then go to System > Configuration, we'll scroll down here and we'll go down to Payment Methods, and inside of Payment Methods, I can go right here to PayPal Express Checkout, and if I go back to Configure you can see here that there is my Account, account status is Active.
I can set up or change my site permissions with Paypal, but as of right now everything is good to go. So I can save that configuration and it will take me back to the dashboard. If you'd like more information about PayPal and how to use it effectively in your business, I would suggest checking out the PayPal Essential Training with Christopher Matthew Spencer which is available in the lynda.com online training library. There are some great stuff in here on setting up PayPal, using PayPal for business purposes and things like that. I walked you through the basics of creating an account and hooking it to Magento, but PayPal Essential Training is a great way to get some more information on how to use it and the ins and outs of actually putting money in, getting money out, et cetera.
So hopefully by now, you have a better understanding of what PayPal is, how to set it up, and how to configure it with your Magento Go online store.
