IntroductionWelcome| 00:04 | Hi there! I am Justin Seeley and I
am a staff author here at lynda.com.
| | 00:07 | I'd like to welcome you to Creating Your
First Online Store with Magento Go.
| | 00:11 | Hopefully, after this course, you'll have all
of the tools and skills you need to get your
| | 00:15 | products on the web and in front of the world.
| | 00:17 | I'll begin this course by showing you how to set up
your online store by using the Magento Go Dashboard.
| | 00:22 | I'll also show you how to add products to
your store, adjust their product attributes
| | 00:27 | and sort them into categories.
| | 00:28 | I'll also walk you through setting up your
checkout options, adjusting your tax settings,
| | 00:33 | and also how to deal with
various shipping methods as well.
| | 00:36 | Along the way I'll be showing you how to hook
your store into various payment gateways like
| | 00:40 | PayPal, Authorize.Net and Google Checkout.
| | 00:44 | From there we'll dive deep into
customizing the appearance of your store.
| | 00:48 | Finally, I'll walk you through all of the
basics of ecommerce store management, as we
| | 00:52 | take a look at processing orders, managing
a customer database, implementing product
| | 00:56 | reviews and ratings, and also
customer wish lists as well.
| | 01:00 | It's time to get started building your
first online store with Magento Go.
| | 01:04 | So if you're ready, let's dive right in.

| Using the exercise files| 00:00 | If you're a premium member of the lynda.com
online training library, you have access to
| | 00:04 | an assets folder that I'll be
using throughout this course.
| | 00:07 | This folder contains various product images that
I'll be using for the items in my online store.
| | 00:11 | While I am including these for reference
purposes, you'll probably want to use your own product
| | 00:15 | shots for your online store, that way the
products you create actually correspond to
| | 00:18 | your business and what you're selling.
| | 00:20 | If you're not a premium member of the
online training library, that's fine.
| | 00:23 | You can still follow along using
your own images with no problem at all.

1. Getting StartedWhat is Magento Go?| 00:00 | If you're new to ecommerce or the Magento
platform in general, you may be wondering
| | 00:04 | exactly what is Magento Go.
| | 00:06 | In short, Magento Go is an online hosted ecommerce
platform for entrepreneurs and small businesses
| | 00:14 | that allows you to create and build an online
store to sell your products quickly and easily.
| | 00:19 | The best thing about Magento Go is its point
and click nature, which allows you to build
| | 00:24 | your store without having to worry about things
like software, servers or even website code.
| | 00:29 | Basically, you're getting all of the power
of the regular Magento platform in a sleek
| | 00:34 | easy-to-use online interface where all of
the technical stuff is handled for you.
| | 00:39 | So whether you're just getting started with
a new business venture, or even if you're
| | 00:43 | an established business looking to branch out
into the world of online commerce, Magento
| | 00:47 | Go offers a unique way to get yourself online
and selling quickly without the worry or hassle
| | 00:53 | of technical jargon that you
might not otherwise understand.

| Creating a new store| 00:00 | To get started using Magento Go, simply
go to the website address go.magento.com.
| | 00:07 | Once you've reached this site, you're going
to notice that it's taking you here to the
| | 00:09 | homepage, and in order to get started using
the Magento Go system you simply find the
| | 00:14 | little blue cloud over here on the
right that says Start Your Free Trial.
| | 00:18 | Click right here and it takes you to this
page to sign up for a free 30-day trial.
| | 00:23 | You'll notice here that it tells you there
is no credit card required. It is a fully
| | 00:26 | functional trial, that means you'll get to use
every single piece of the Magento Go platform
| | 00:30 | including 200 MB of storage, up to a 100 SKUs
and 4 GB of bandwidth, which should be more
| | 00:37 | than enough to get you
started for the first 30 days.
| | 00:40 | Let's scroll down here and you can see that
they give you some options down here at the
| | 00:43 | bottom for after your free trial has expired,
it tells you, you can easily upgrade to any
| | 00:46 | of the regular plans.
| | 00:48 | So let's go over those first to let you know exactly
what you'll be dealing with once your trial expires.
| | 00:54 | So the very beginning option is called Get
Going and that's $15 a month. That's going
| | 00:58 | to give you a 100 SKUs, it's going to give
you 3 Admin accounts, that means you're going
| | 01:02 | to have 3 admins; people who are
able to log in and manage your store.
| | 01:07 | You only have support for one language so
your store has to be in one single language.
| | 01:11 | You will get email and chat support here.
| | 01:14 | You'll get 200 MB of storage; you'll get 4 GB
of bandwidth, so basically this is continuing
| | 01:18 | with the same basic stuff that you get in
the free trial in this $15 a month option
| | 01:23 | here on the left.
| | 01:25 | The second option entitled Going Places gives
you for $25 a month, you get 500 SKUs, you
| | 01:31 | get 10 Admin accounts, still only one language,
you do get the email and chat support, you
| | 01:36 | get 500 MB of storage and
you get 8 GB of bandwidth.
| | 01:42 | So essentially for $10 more, you are getting
5 times the number of SKUs, you're getting
| | 01:47 | pretty much double the storage capacity and double the
bandwidth as well, so not too bad of a jump there.
| | 01:52 | The next one is sort of a bigger
jump. It goes up $40 to $65 a month.
| | 01:58 | You get however a big bump in everything, you
get a 1000 SKUs, you get 20 Admin accounts,
| | 02:04 | you get three languages so you could put your store
in English, Spanish and Portuguese, for instance.
| | 02:08 | You get email, chat, and phone support as well.
| | 02:12 | You also get 800 MB of storage and then you
get 16 GB of bandwidth to be used up over
| | 02:19 | the course of the month as well,
and that is for $65 a month.
| | 02:23 | So once you get more established, you get a lot
more product, you get a lot more interaction
| | 02:27 | from your audience, you might want to
think about going to these bigger plans.
| | 02:32 | The biggest one that they offer is
called Go Anywhere, it's a $125 a month.
| | 02:35 | You get 10,000 SKU numbers, you get 30 Admin
accounts, still three languages; you do get
| | 02:41 | email, chat, and phone support, 24/7 phone
support, and you get 5 GB of storage.
| | 02:48 | You also get 32 GB of bandwidth for
that as well, so that's a $125 a month.
| | 02:54 | So my recommendation personally is to start
as small as you can, especially if you're
| | 02:57 | not yet an established business, I would go
ahead and start with the Get Going plan just
| | 03:02 | to get yourself started, get people aware. Hey,
I am online, I am selling things online.
| | 03:06 | Once you've reached the saturation point for
that plan, meaning you are approaching your
| | 03:10 | bandwidth limit, or your storage limit, or even your SKU
limit, I would just graduate up to the next plan.
| | 03:16 | Once you reach the limit there, graduate up
to the next plan, and so forth, and so on.
| | 03:21 | Once you get to a point where you need 10,000
SKUs or 30 Admin accounts and stuff like that,
| | 03:27 | I don't think you're ever
going to need more than that.
| | 03:29 | If you do ever need more than that, it might
be time to think about something other than
| | 03:33 | a hosted platform; something that's
self maintained on your own server.
| | 03:38 | So by the time you get to this last one over
here, you'll be ready to hire a developer
| | 03:41 | and build your own store probably.
| | 03:44 | But you can also see down here at the bottom
that you have access to some frequently asked
| | 03:47 | questions, like you know, can I try before
I buy? Can I convert my trial to a regular
| | 03:51 | plan? All of that stuff is outlined
for you down here at the bottom.
| | 03:56 | And if you scroll back up to the top you can actually
start the process of setting up your new account.
| | 04:00 | So the first thing you need to do
is tell Magento Go where you are.
| | 04:04 | So currently I'm in the United
States, so I am going to hit Next.
| | 04:07 | It's also going to ask me
to choose my store name.
| | 04:09 | I am going to be working with a lot of vintage
toys, so I'm going to type out bigrobottoys,
| | 04:16 | and I am going to hit Let's Go.
| | 04:20 | Notice it tells me here I am 30
seconds away from my new store.
| | 04:22 | That's because as soon as you complete this form,
your online store is pretty much rock 'n rolling.
| | 04:26 | So I am going to fill out the information
that's it's asking me for here, my first name,
| | 04:29 | my last name, the contact email.
| | 04:33 | They'll also need a phone number,
the username and a password.
| | 04:39 | You'll notice underneath here that it gives
you the option to install sample data, and
| | 04:44 | what this is going to do is populate your
store with some sample data to give you some
| | 04:47 | information and just some
examples of how to use it.
| | 04:51 | I am going to go ahead and say no. I don't
want the sample data installed in my store,
| | 04:55 | because I want to start this with my own stuff.
I don't have to worry about any of this.
| | 04:59 | You can also read the terms and conditions.
it will launch in a little window like this.
| | 05:03 | I would suggest that you read through this,
that way you can see all of the rules and
| | 05:06 | regulations about selling on
Magento Go and things like that.
| | 05:09 | Once you've read through all of this stuff, I
want you to go ahead and click, I have read
| | 05:13 | and agree to the terms and
conditions, and then click Let's Go.
| | 05:18 | Once that is all processed, you'll be taken
to this screen where it says, congratulations!
| | 05:22 | You've successfully signed up for
Magento Go and we are setting up your store.
| | 05:26 | It tells you that they will email you with
your instructions for logging in and so now
| | 05:31 | you can go here and you can
click manage your account,
| | 05:35 | and once you click manage your account, that
should take you over to the account management
| | 05:39 | dashboard section.
| | 05:41 | And once that jumps over into the account
management dashboard, you can see here that
| | 05:44 | they tell you your store
name, so bigrobottoys.
| | 05:46 | You've also got your free trial where you can upgrade
to a paid plan, tells you your status which is Active.
| | 05:52 | It also tell you when your trial ends;
mine is going to end on October the 4th.
| | 05:57 | It's also got my site address, so
I've got bigrobottoys.gostore.com.
| | 06:02 | At any time I want I can change that, and I
can click change to change the address, and
| | 06:07 | then save it or cancel.
| | 06:09 | I can also add a custom URL. I'll talk about custom
URLs in its own separate movie a little bit later on.
| | 06:15 | And then you can manage your store, view
your store and also cancel your plan.
| | 06:19 | Now I'll be going through the dashboard here
in depth a little bit later on, but for now
| | 06:24 | we now have an online presence on the Magento
Go platform and we're ready to start building
| | 06:28 | our store and selling products.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Touring the My Account dashboard| 00:00 | Once you've created your first online store
with Magento Go, you have access to something
| | 00:05 | called the My Account dashboard and you can
access that any time while you're logged in
| | 00:09 | the Magento Go system by clicking My Account
and it will take you to this screen here.
| | 00:13 | Now the My Magento Go Stores will show you
all of the different stores that you have.
| | 00:16 | Currently I only have one called bigrobottoys.
| | 00:18 | It gives you all of the information about
that particular store right there. You can
| | 00:22 | also manage and view the store
using those big orange buttons.
| | 00:26 | To the left-hand side, you have a navigation
area where you can click to go to things like
| | 00:29 | Account Settings.
| | 00:31 | Once you get into the Account Settings, you
will be taken here where you can edit account
| | 00:34 | information, stuff like your name,
your email address; your username.
| | 00:38 | You can also change what industry you're in, so
in this case, I'm going to put mine as Other,
| | 00:42 | because I am selling toys.
| | 00:44 | My job title is going to be CEO/President.
| | 00:47 | You can also enter an information about support, your
company name, so in this case I'll add Big Robot Toys.
| | 00:55 | My Company primarily is a
merchant who sells online.
| | 00:58 | My Role is Business/Sales/
Marketing/Merchandising.
| | 01:02 | You can add your address to this, telephone
number, all of this information can be placed
| | 01:06 | into this section and you can save that.
| | 01:10 | So it may come up and tell you that some of
these areas are required fields and you can
| | 01:14 | just fill out all of that information like
you see here, and then click Save, and all of
| | 01:18 | that information has been saved as
your company account information.
| | 01:24 | Once that saves, it refreshes the page and tells
you the account information has been saved.
| | 01:28 | You can also go over here and you can change
your password, you can edit your avatar, you
| | 01:32 | can edit your signature, edit your profile,
edit your email preferences, email subscriptions
| | 01:37 | and activate Magento Connect.
| | 01:40 | You can also go in here to
view your billing history.
| | 01:43 | The billing history is going to give you a
detailed break down of all of the billing
| | 01:47 | that's been happening with your account.
| | 01:49 | And so right now it tells you that each time
you're billed, an invoice is going to be emailed
| | 01:52 | to whatever email address you have shown.
| | 01:55 | And it will also say to view a printable receipt
please click on the appropriate invoice below.
| | 01:59 | Well currently I don't have any
invoices because I am using the free trial.
| | 02:02 | But if my free trial has expired and I had
upped to one of the specific plans that they
| | 02:07 | offer, that would be listed here.
| | 02:09 | So if I had the $15 a month plan,
I would see an invoice for that.
| | 02:13 | I can also go over here to Support, and
Support gives me different things about, like the
| | 02:18 | Magento Go system status, so it's telling me
whether or not the Magento Go System is up and running.
| | 02:23 | I can also see any support tickets that I've
used, that I've sent in, like if something
| | 02:28 | is not working in my store, I can post a new ticket.
Hopefully they'll take care of that pretty quickly.
| | 02:32 | And you can also go into the Solutions Library,
and the Solutions Library provides answers
| | 02:35 | to what they call the most
common issues on Magento Go.
| | 02:39 | You can browse for a solution of your problem
based on the most popular solutions or search
| | 02:43 | for a solution in the
Solutions Library as well.
| | 02:46 | Solutions, they say are a quick way to get
answers to common problems without having
| | 02:50 | to engage with the Magento support team.
| | 02:52 | So if you find something that you think might
be in this database, just go to Search and
| | 02:56 | Browse right there and you can try to find the
answer to whatever issue you might be having.
| | 03:02 | And different issues will pop up at
different times, and so you can check that.
| | 03:05 | You can also go right here to the Live Help button to
get Live Help from one of their representatives.
| | 03:12 | Directly underneath that you'll also see
something for Developers and this is for some people
| | 03:15 | who have a little bit more technical prowess
or if you're working with a developer and
| | 03:19 | you want them to hook into your Magento Go
store to implement it onto a separate website,
| | 03:24 | or use some of the other APIs that might be
available there, you can see all the information here.
| | 03:28 | You can manage the extensions that you
are currently using or add a new one.
| | 03:31 | Again, this is only for a developer, so if
you're not a skilled developer, I would just
| | 03:35 | leave this alone.
| | 03:36 | If you've hired a developer to work with you
in your store, this is a great place for them
| | 03:39 | to go and explore some of that.
| | 03:41 | And then finally, you also have a link
inside of this area to the community area.
| | 03:46 | So the community area is going to take you
to this page where a modal box will pop up
| | 03:50 | and say, I would like to customize your
experience, tell us a little bit about yourself so that
| | 03:54 | we can provide you with the most
relevant information on the Magento website.
| | 03:58 | My company primarily does what? So
I'm a merchant who sells online.
| | 04:02 | My Role is what? I am a Business/sales/
marketing/merchandising professional.
| | 04:05 | I am going to update that.
| | 04:08 | It's currently telling me that I don't have
any subscriptions and that's fine. I can go
| | 04:11 | over here and I can go to the Bulletin Board,
post new messages, I can edit my message folders,
| | 04:16 | I can find buddies to connect
with and all that kind of stuff.
| | 04:19 | It's just a really interesting way to interact
with other people here, post messages, share
| | 04:23 | ideas and things like that.
| | 04:26 | Now at anytime if you want to get back to
the regular account dashboard, you can just
| | 04:29 | click My Account up at the top, and then click your
name, and that takes you back to the account dashboard.
| | 04:37 | You also have the ability to utilize this
navigation bar that goes across the top where
| | 04:41 | you can go to Products,
Consulting, Training, Resources.
| | 04:47 | You can download things, go and read customer
success stories and showcases, view information
| | 04:52 | about the partners program, learn more about
the Magento company, and also visit their blog.
| | 04:58 | The account dashboard is sort of like
the jumping off point for your account.
| | 05:02 | It's going to take you to all of the
different areas of interest of the Magento Go site.
| | 05:06 | It also allows you to get into your store
and manage your store, as well as view your
| | 05:10 | store to see exactly what it looks like
and how your products are shaping up.
| | 05:13 | So it's a great bird's eye view of what's
going on and gives you access to all of the
| | 05:17 | most important parts of your site as well.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Accessing support| 00:00 | One of the most important things with any
online platform is going to be the support
| | 00:04 | system, and the Magento Go system
actually has a very nice support area.
| | 00:09 | You can access the support by going to the
My Account Dashboard, which is where I am
| | 00:13 | at now and clicking on the
Support button over here on the left.
| | 00:17 | Once you get into the support system it's
going to give you an overview of the Magento
| | 00:21 | Go system, like you see here, and you can
also view your latest tickets and also go
| | 00:25 | into the Solutions Library.
| | 00:26 | I am going to open up the Solutions Library
in its own tab for a moment, and I am also
| | 00:31 | going to show you how to work with something
called Live Help in just a minute as well.
| | 00:35 | Let's go over to the Solutions Library first,
and so you can see here they have all of these
| | 00:39 | different solutions that you can browse.
| | 00:41 | So how to set up your EE Instance into
Developer Mode. How is Magento Go SEO optimized? Can
| | 00:48 | I use my own SSL on Magento Go? Is
Magento Go available in Europe?
| | 00:53 | You can click this and it will take you to
that solution and it will tell you, yes, Magento
| | 00:56 | Go can work anywhere in the world.
| | 00:58 | All of this information is maintained by
Magento and they give you answers to the most common
| | 01:04 | questions that they are
fielding on a day-to-day basis.
| | 01:09 | So for instance, you could see something like
Magento Go: How does it compare to Community Edition?
| | 01:13 | And so if you're wondering the differences
between the Magento Community Edition and
| | 01:17 | the Magento Go Platform, you can see
exactly what those differences are here.
| | 01:20 | So for instance, Magento Go has the same features
as Community Edition, plus some features found
| | 01:25 | in Magento Enterprise.
| | 01:26 | Some of the features that are available with
Magento Go and not Magento Community are banners,
| | 01:32 | CMS, gift cards, store credit,
Admin logging and assisted shopping.
| | 01:36 | So if you're interested in that, you might
want to explore that a little bit more.
| | 01:40 | Anytime you're working on your store, you
find something that just doesn't makes sense,
| | 01:43 | try browsing this thing called the Solutions Library.
You can even type in a question here and search.
| | 01:48 | If someone else has asked that question before,
that will show up and you can view the answer.
| | 01:53 | Now let's close this up and let's go back
into this other page here and let's say that
| | 01:57 | you couldn't find what you're
looking for in the Solutions area.
| | 02:00 | Let's click on Live Help for a moment and you
can see here that it brings up this section
| | 02:05 | where you can send in an email with a
subject and a question, or you can chat with them.
| | 02:11 | So let's type in a subject, how do I change
themes? I want to change the theme of my store.
| | 02:19 | How do I do that? And I'll say chat with us.
| | 02:23 | That's going to launch this little chat
window which I can move to the middle.
| | 02:26 | And someone is actually on the other line
with me right now and they are going to answer
| | 02:31 | this question for me hopefully.
| | 02:34 | I can also type more messages down here at
the bottom, I can hit enter or return in order
| | 02:38 | to submit that question again, and the person
will then respond to me with any response
| | 02:43 | that they might have.
| | 02:45 | Now this could take some time, because
obviously they don't have a single help representative
| | 02:49 | for each and every customer that they have,
so there is no telling what position I'm in,
| | 02:54 | in their queue to answer these questions.
| | 02:56 | So in this case I'll just say, thank you
very much. I have answered my own question.
| | 03:04 | I'll submit that and you can see my question
goes through, and I can close that back up.
| | 03:09 | If you wanted to you could also have sent
that as an email and then they would email
| | 03:12 | you back to the email address that you have
provided there, and they would answer your
| | 03:17 | question that way.
| | 03:17 | So if you don't want to wait on them to do
Live Help, you can just submit an email then
| | 03:21 | go about your business doing whatever you
need to do and hopefully they will email you
| | 03:24 | back with a response in
a decent amount of time.

2. Setting Up Your StoreSetting up your store options| 00:00 | Before you get started adding products your
Magento Go store, it's a good idea that actually
| | 00:04 | set up some of the internal components of
the store, so that it's ready for you when
| | 00:08 | you start adding products, and you
can just go ahead and take it online.
| | 00:12 | In order to do that you will need to go into
the Store Management Console and you can do
| | 00:15 | that by logging into your My Account dashboard
and then clicking the big orange button that
| | 00:19 | says Manage Store.
| | 00:21 | Once you do that, that should launch your store.
You will have enter in your username and password
| | 00:25 | once again to get to this screen, but once
you get to this screen, you will then be able
| | 00:29 | to access something called Start My Store.
| | 00:32 | And this may be displayed on your screen by
default, and you may see some check marks,
| | 00:36 | and you may not see some check marks.
| | 00:38 | Basically, what this is is a small checklist
of things that you need to complete before
| | 00:42 | you make your store active.
| | 00:44 | You also notice at the top, it tells you this
store is under construction and any orders
| | 00:48 | place will not be fulfilled.
| | 00:49 | That means if anybody buys anything, right
now nothing is going to be happen, because
| | 00:52 | you haven't published your store.
| | 00:54 | The first thing you need to is
set your language preference.
| | 00:56 | And you can do that by setting your language here,
and then choosing a language from this list.
| | 01:01 | In this case, I'm in the United States, so I'll
choose English (United States), click Submit.
| | 01:05 | Anytime you complete one of these tasks, it
will automatically show a check mark next
| | 01:09 | to it indicating you have completed it.
| | 01:11 | Your contact information, that's the store
contact information, that's your name, your
| | 01:14 | address, and your phone
number for your business.
| | 01:17 | This is going to help customers interact with
your brand, give them a point of contact and
| | 01:21 | a way to get in touch with you.
| | 01:22 | It's also a way of them to the find the
email address from which you'll be sending them
| | 01:25 | newsletters, that way they can add that to
their whitelist, and get in touch with you
| | 01:29 | and stay in contact with you at all times.
| | 01:31 | You can also set your design elements, and
that's the first thing we're going dive into,
| | 01:35 | and that's going to be
selecting and customizing your design.
| | 01:37 | Now I'm going to go in depth into theming and
how to customize your theme a little bit later,
| | 01:42 | but I want show you how
to select a basic theme.
| | 01:45 | So let's choose Select and Customize your
Design, just hit Continue when this box pops
| | 01:50 | up. It is just giving you heads up, letting
you know that you can go in and change things
| | 01:53 | via CSS if you wanted to.
| | 01:56 | When you first come in here you will notice you
have an active theme over here on the left.
| | 01:59 | You can also choose from the
available themes over here on the right.
| | 02:03 | And when you select a theme, you can just click on
it and it will automatically become your theme.
| | 02:07 | So for instance, if I wanted to select this T-shop
right here, I'll just click that and
| | 02:12 | it automatically takes me to
a new theme based on T-shop.
| | 02:16 | I can name this BigRobotTheme.
| | 02:20 | Theme Description; a theme for my store and
If I wanted to choose a thumbnail for that
| | 02:26 | to differentiate it from something else,
I can do that, but I'm not going to.
| | 02:29 | For now, I'm just going to click Save.
This is going to save my theme,
| | 02:35 | and then over to the left you'll notice I
have Design Setting, CSS Editor, Java Script,
| | 02:40 | and Catalog Images.
| | 02:41 | In this case, I'm going to leave those alone
for now, because we are going to dive deep
| | 02:44 | into those a little bit later.
| | 02:46 | And so now, I'm just going to save it.
| | 02:49 | Once I do that it should return me back out.
| | 02:51 | And you'll notice over here that I have my
current theme still, but at the bottom I now
| | 02:54 | have now my BigRobotTheme, and I can
apply that just by clicking Apply.
| | 03:00 | Basically, what you're doing here is creating
a theme based off of one of their themes that
| | 03:05 | they are providing to you, and
you're not overriding their theme.
| | 03:09 | They are actually allowing you to take a
base set of styles and ideas and apply them to
| | 03:14 | it's own new blank canvas which you can then
change and alter in any way without actually
| | 03:18 | affecting the original theme.
| | 03:20 | So once you have that applied, you
can see BigRobotTheme, ready to go.
| | 03:25 | And so now, I'm going to go
back to my back to my Dashboard.
| | 03:26 | I have set up my first basic theme and anytime
I want to go see this, I can go in to a new
| | 03:31 | tab and I can visit my website address bigrobottoys.
gostorego.com, and once I do that, you'll be able to see
| | 03:38 | the store and right now it is pretty blank,
but you can see that I have is theme applied
| | 03:43 | to it. It's very modern looking,
kind of sci-fi-ish.
| | 03:46 | So it's really fitting the
look and feel of my robot toys.
| | 03:48 | And at the bottom it's got about us where
you can see all this information, customer
| | 03:52 | service, site map, all these things
are automatically entered for you.
| | 03:56 | And so at anytime you want to preview your
site just remember what your address is; in
| | 04:00 | this case bigrobottoys.gostorego.com.
| | 04:03 | You can access that in your browser and
be able to preview it at any given time.
| | 04:07 | I'll close that up and go
back into My Dashboard.
| | 04:10 | And I'll go back upto Start My Store and let's
go back to Design and let's choose Set Your
| | 04:15 | Logo. Inside of this set logo section you will
notice you have three options to set up here.
| | 04:21 | The first one is your store logo, the second
one is the logo for your emails and the third
| | 04:25 | one in something called a favicon.
| | 04:28 | The store logo is something that's going to
be displayed in the top portion of whatever
| | 04:32 | theme you've chosen.
| | 04:34 | So for instance, in that theme that we were
just looking at where it said Modern Style,
| | 04:38 | that's where this logo is going to appear.
| | 04:41 | The size of this logo is going to vary from
theme to theme, so my suggestion to you is
| | 04:46 | find the theme that works for you, and then
locate the image and try to gauge exactly
| | 04:51 | how big that it is, and you can then
produce an image that fits that particular size.
| | 04:57 | You can also select a logo for your store
emails. This is going to be something that
| | 05:01 | appears in the header of the emails that are
sent to your clients, whether that be purchase
| | 05:05 | confirmation or a newsletter you send out, or whatever
it might be. This logo will always be at the top.
| | 05:11 | This could be anything from 500 pixels to
650 pixels wide, generally 650 is about as
| | 05:16 | wide as I would go.
| | 05:17 | It could be as tall as you wanted to be any where
from say one to 300 pixels probably would work.
| | 05:22 | And then finally, you can add in
something called the favicon.
| | 05:25 | And the favicon, the easiest way to
describe it is to show it to you.
| | 05:28 | Up here in my tabs, in my web browser, you see
this little logo right here; that is a favicon.
| | 05:33 | It's the little bookmark icon that's
associated with the websites that you visit.
| | 05:37 | The favicon needs to be something that is
distinguishable to your website, but also
| | 05:41 | really easy to read and
understand what it means.
| | 05:44 | So in this case, this M stands for Magento.
It's the Magento logo and that corresponds
| | 05:49 | to of course the Magento brand.
| | 05:50 | It's very simple, it's very small.
| | 05:53 | And you need to make sure also
that this is a complete square.
| | 05:56 | So it needs to be like 50x50 pixels
or 20x20 pixels.
| | 06:00 | It can be in a multitude of formats, including
ICO, PNG, GIF, JPEG, APNG or SVG, any of those
| | 06:07 | formats will be fine.
| | 06:09 | You just need to make sure
again that it is perfectly square.
| | 06:12 | For your logos, for your emails and store website,
those can be in either JPEG, GIF or PNG format.
| | 06:18 | Let's go and set mine up now.
| | 06:19 | I'll choose my store logo first. I'll go here.
| | 06:22 | And I have store_logo.png loaded in here.
| | 06:26 | Then for my emails I also have a
email_logo.jpg, bring that in.
| | 06:32 | And then finally, I have my
favicon.png and I'll load that in.
| | 06:38 | Then I'm going to click Submit.
| | 06:40 | Those are now being uploaded to my store and
put in place, and so once those have finished,
| | 06:46 | you'll notice a check mark appears.
| | 06:47 | If I collapse this for a second, you'll notice that
it tells me the email logo was successfully saved,
| | 06:52 | favicon successfully saved,
store logo successfully saved.
| | 06:56 | If I go now and visit my store, you will see
my logo is here and my favicon with little
| | 07:02 | robot logo is right there.
| | 07:05 | If I were to send an email, the email
would pop up with my logo at the top as well.
| | 07:10 | So like I said, this is going to change
depending on what theme you're using at any given time.
| | 07:14 | So if you happen to change themes, be sure
to check out your logo, make sure that it
| | 07:18 | still fits within the chosen window that it
has given you, and if not, you might want
| | 07:22 | to back to your designer. If you're
designing it yourself, go back and rework that logo
| | 07:26 | to fit a little bit better.
| | 07:28 | Some logos work better than others. In this
case, I just sort of put together some elements
| | 07:33 | of the existing logo that I had to make it
stretch a little bit more horizontally.
| | 07:37 | The logo for this company is
actually more of a vertical logo.
| | 07:40 | So I just took in and split apart
to make it go more horizontal.
| | 07:44 | And you may have to do that with yours or
simply find a theme or customize the theme
| | 07:48 | in such a way that it fits
your logo a little bit better.
| | 07:51 | So I'll close this up and go
back into my Dashboard now.
| | 07:54 | And I'll go back upto to Start My Store.
| | 07:57 | You can also visit the place where you
select your plan, this is where you set the plan
| | 08:01 | that you might have.
| | 08:03 | Going forward right now we are just using
the free trial, and you can see here it says
| | 08:05 | as your business grows,
Magento can grow with you.
| | 08:08 | That way you can switch from the small plan all
the way up to the big enterprise plan.
| | 08:12 | So that's totally up to you.
| | 08:14 | The Product section; this is something
we're going to cover in the very next movie.
| | 08:17 | How to start creating your first products,
and so you'll just come back to here, go to
| | 08:20 | Start My Store, select Products
and then you can create your own.
| | 08:23 | Payments; we are going
cover these in depth as well.
| | 08:26 | You can set up things like PayPal Express or
other payment options like Google Checkout
| | 08:30 | and Authorize.net.
| | 08:31 | You can also set your tax
calculations from here as well.
| | 08:35 | You can go and setup your shipping
options and also you can launch your store.
| | 08:40 | So this is where you go at the very end when you are
ready to just take everything online and go forward.
| | 08:46 | And so hopefully, by now you have a better
understanding of how to set up the basics
| | 08:50 | of your store going forward, including your
contact information, as well as your language
| | 08:55 | support, and setting up your store logos.
| | 08:58 | From there, it's now time
to start adding products.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Setting up new products| 00:00 | Once you are ready to start adding products
to your Magento Store, there are a couple
| | 00:03 | of ways that you can go about that.
| | 00:04 | I'm currently logged into my My Account
dashboard and I am going to click Manage Store; that
| | 00:09 | should jump me into my store.
| | 00:11 | If it asks you to log in, just go ahead and
enter in your username and password again,
| | 00:14 | and then it should take you here, and from
here, there are two ways that you can start
| | 00:18 | setting up new products; you can go to Start
My Store and then choose Products and click
| | 00:22 | Create New Products, or you can collapse
that and you can go down to Catalog and select
| | 00:27 | Manage Products, and get to
that same screen as well.
| | 00:30 | I am just going to go to Start My
Store, go to Products and click Create.
| | 00:33 | It's going to give me a little thing here
telling me that they have flexibly when creating
| | 00:38 | products and you can set up custom
options and all that good stuff.
| | 00:41 | Just go ahead and click Continue from here.
| | 00:44 | From here, you will be taken to the New Product
screen where you can choose an Attribute Set.
| | 00:48 | We haven't discussed those yet, so I
am just going to leave it on Default.
| | 00:51 | You can also Use Complex Product types, in
this case, we are not going to do that.
| | 00:53 | So we'll just click Continue and once we click
Continue, that should take me to the New Product
| | 00:58 | page and on the New Product page, I need to
pay attention to anything that is labeled
| | 01:03 | with a little red asterisk or a star.
| | 01:06 | This is going to give me an indication that this is
a required field, something I have to fill out.
| | 01:11 | You also have the ability to turn
on something called WYSIWYG Editor.
| | 01:15 | When you turn on the WYSIWYG Editor, it takes
you to something that looks very much like
| | 01:18 | Microsoft Word or even the WordPress
Dashboard if you are familiar with the WordPress CMS
| | 01:23 | system, and this is going to give you the
ability to really edit and fine-tune your
| | 01:28 | descriptions in the way
everything looks inside of your products.
| | 01:32 | So you can do things like bold, italicize and
underline things, you can change the Alignment,
| | 01:36 | set up different styles, you can change
paragraph options, you can set the different font, the
| | 01:41 | font size. This is a very powerful tool that
I really suggest you take the time to learn
| | 01:46 | exactly what it does and use
it to its full potential.
| | 01:49 | In this case, I am going to just close this
though and go back and start here at the very top.
| | 01:54 | We'll keep it simple for now.
| | 01:55 | So I am going to call this
product Vintage Yellow Robot.
| | 02:01 | I'm also going to add a description for this.
| | 02:06 | So my description is "This yellow vintage robot has been
completely restored and is now available in our store.
| | 02:11 | This would be an awesome addition to
anyone's collection and we hope you enjoy it!"
| | 02:15 | This could be anything that you want to say
about this item. You could say how much it
| | 02:20 | costs, how much it weighs, anything you
want to say in this box is up to you.
| | 02:24 | You'll also need to provide a short description,
so for this one, I am just going to type out
| | 02:28 | Vintage yellow robot, now
available for your collection.
| | 02:32 | The next thing that is required here
for me is the SKU number or S-K-U number.
| | 02:37 | This could be a unique number
that identifies this product.
| | 02:40 | It's normally used to identify
different variations of the same product.
| | 02:44 | So if you had this same thing in multiple
sizes or in multiple colors for instance,
| | 02:49 | you might give each one
a different SKU number.
| | 02:51 | In this case, I am just going to add
in a SKU number something like this.
| | 02:55 | This could be something that you generate
yourself, or that someone in your product team
| | 02:58 | generates, or it could just be a
random number that you generate as well.
| | 03:01 | The weight is also required.
| | 03:03 | This is for shipping requirements. They want
to know the actual mass of the object for
| | 03:06 | shipping calculation purposes, so 1.5 pounds.
| | 03:10 | And you also need to determine when this product
will be selected as new in your store or when
| | 03:16 | it will show as new.
| | 03:18 | Basically what this means is how long will we
display this as a "new item" in your store?
| | 03:23 | I am going to select the date as this Friday,
is when it's going to start, and I want it
| | 03:27 | to remain a new item until the end of the month, so
I am just going to set up those, just like that.
| | 03:32 | The status, you have the ability to
choose between Enabled and Disabled.
| | 03:36 | If the product is Enabled, it is available in
your store, able to be purchased by anybody,
| | 03:40 | and if it's Disabled that means it's currently
either out of stock or just not available anymore.
| | 03:45 | So you choose between those two;
right now I am going to Enable it.
| | 03:48 | You can also set a URL Key, it's not required.
| | 03:50 | If you do not enter anything in here, Magento
Go will automatically add URL Key for you,
| | 03:55 | this is your store/
whatever you want to call this.
| | 03:59 | Visibility; how is this item searchable? How
are people going to find it? Is it not visible
| | 04:04 | at all? Is this something that's only available in
the catalog? Is this something that's available
| | 04:09 | through search? Is it
available through search and catalog?
| | 04:11 | If you choose Search and Catalog that means
it's going to be the easiest to find because
| | 04:15 | people will not only be able to see it in your
catalog, they will also be able to search for it.
| | 04:19 | So if someone came and searched for yellow
robot toys, theoretically they would find this.
| | 04:24 | Allowing Gift Messages; if you want someone
to be able to purchase this as a gift for
| | 04:28 | someone else and then send that person a corresponding
message along with it, you can choose to do this.
| | 04:33 | You will notice it's grayed out by default,
that's because it's currently using the configuration
| | 04:36 | settings of my store, meaning that somewhere
in my store, I have a setting that says no,
| | 04:41 | don't allow gift messaging.
| | 04:43 | You can override that by unchecking the box on a
case-by-case basis and changing that to Yes.
| | 04:48 | You can also select whether or not this shows
up in a news feed, in this case, I am going
| | 04:52 | to say No, and you can also set a country
of manufacture if you know what that is. If
| | 04:57 | not, you can simply leave that blank.
| | 04:59 | Once you have finished entering in this
information, you can click Save and Continue Editing and
| | 05:04 | it will take you to the very next
screen saving that and taking you here.
| | 05:09 | The very next screen is the pricing screen.
| | 05:11 | This is where you set up
all the pricing information.
| | 05:12 | So in this case, I am going to type out 19.95,
that's how much it's going to cost.
| | 05:17 | I can also run a special price.
| | 05:19 | So if I wanted to run the
introductory special of 14.95 on this, I could.
| | 05:23 | And then I'll set how long this special runs.
| | 05:25 | So I am going to do it the same
way I did the New Product Listing.
| | 05:28 | It's going to start this Friday. It's
going to end at the end of the month.
| | 05:32 | So from this date until this date, it will be 14.95,
from that day forward, it will be 19.95.
| | 05:39 | You can set up your cost if you want to.
| | 05:41 | You don't have to do that if you don't really
know it, or if you don't have a cost that you
| | 05:45 | wish to enter, you don't have to.
| | 05:47 | You can also tier the pricing.
| | 05:49 | So you can do things like General public,
Wholesalers, Retailers, do different price
| | 05:53 | points for each one.
| | 05:55 | You don't have to do that. Again,
I'll just click the X to get out.
| | 05:58 | It takes me back out.
| | 05:59 | You can set the Tax Class, this is required.
| | 06:01 | I am going to say this is a taxable good.
| | 06:04 | Is the product available for purchase with
Google Checkout? We are going to cover Google
| | 06:08 | Checkout in our future movie, so
I'll just leave that as Yes for now.
| | 06:12 | You can also Apply MAP pricing, display the
actual price, set a manufacturer's suggested
| | 06:16 | retail price and allow
displaying the unit's product price.
| | 06:20 | This is all again totally up to you and it's going
to be on a product-by-product basis most likely.
| | 06:26 | From here, you can Save and Continue Editing
that will save all of the information you've
| | 06:30 | placed here, and you can go in and
change some of the other information.
| | 06:35 | The Meta Information, that's going to be things
like a title, keywords and description. This is
| | 06:38 | all for SEO purposes; things that
will make this easier to find.
| | 06:42 | So the Meta Title, Vintage Yellow Robot Toy.
Keywords; yellow, robot, toys, vintage, old,
| | 06:54 | antique. You enter in as
many of these as you want.
| | 06:57 | A Meta Description; vintage, toy, robot. You
can type about as much as you want, you have
| | 07:02 | a maximum of 255 characters here.
| | 07:05 | So again, it might be a good idea to consult
someone on the SEO side to get some better
| | 07:10 | keywords and descriptions for your products.
| | 07:12 | It's going to make them both easier to find
for others and also going to put you higher
| | 07:16 | in the page rank when people
search for things as well.
| | 07:20 | Now once you have this, go ahead
and click Save and Continue Editing.
| | 07:25 | Then we'll move on to one of the most
important sections and that is the images section.
| | 07:28 | This is where you can actually add in
images for the products that you're creating.
| | 07:34 | So in the Images section here, browse to find
the files that you're looking for. In this
| | 07:38 | case, on my Desktop > Assets > Robots,
I'll go into the 800 pixels folder.
| | 07:43 | I am going to select this orange_yellow_
robot and also the yellow_robot from the bottom
| | 07:49 | and open those up.
| | 07:51 | And now if I want to upload
those files, I'll click Upload.
| | 07:54 | Once those have loaded in, you'll see a
preview of them here, and I can label them, so I can
| | 07:59 | say Front and I can say Side. There
we go, Save and Continue Editing.
| | 08:07 | Once it saves, you can roll
over to see the preview.
| | 08:09 | You can also set which one of these is the
base image, so for instance, if I want this
| | 08:13 | to be the base image, if I want this to also
be the small image and I want this to be the
| | 08:18 | thumbnail, I set all of those here.
| | 08:20 | You can also choose to exclude these if
you wish and you can remove them as well.
| | 08:25 | But from here I just want this one to be the
main image that represents this product, and
| | 08:29 | so I'll click Save and Continue Editing there.
| | 08:31 | That saves that and it should reload up and
once it reloads, you should be able to see
| | 08:36 | that all of my options have saved,
so we are ready to go there.
| | 08:40 | You can also go to Design section where you can
choose a custom theme for this particular product.
| | 08:47 | So in this case, I can go down and pick any
one of these themes that I want, but I'm just
| | 08:52 | going to leave this alone, because I don't
want to change to a custom theme necessarily.
| | 08:55 | If you want to do that and then you can say
how long that custom theme is active for,
| | 08:59 | you can do that as well.
| | 09:00 | I'm not going to set up any of these,
but you could on a case-by-case basis.
| | 09:05 | You can also set the shipping options here.
| | 09:09 | You can choose your inventory.
| | 09:11 | Whether or not you want to manage stock from here, you
can choose Yes, and then set up quantities, and so forth.
| | 09:17 | In this case, I'll manage the
stock. I'll say quantity, I have 1.
| | 09:21 | Quantity for item's status to become out of stock;
well, when I hit 0, I want it to be out of stock.
| | 09:25 | Minimum quantity allowed
in shopping cart, only 1.
| | 09:29 | Maximum quantity allowed in shopping cart; now
in this case, it's going in and saying 10,000,
| | 09:33 | but I'm going to set this to
1. I only have 1 of them.
| | 09:38 | Quantity uses decimals, no. Backorders; no
backorders in this case. Notify for quantity
| | 09:43 | below this, yes. Enable quantity increments, no.
Stock availability, currently it is in stock.
| | 09:51 | So I'll Save and Continue Editing there.
| | 09:53 | Once I do that, all the information should
be saved, I can go now into my Categories
| | 09:57 | section on the left and we are going to cover
categories in their own movie later, but for
| | 10:01 | now I am just going to stick it in the Default
category, and I'll Save and Continue Editing.
| | 10:08 | Towards the bottom, you have the ability
to set up things like related products.
| | 10:11 | We don't have any other products in our inventory
right now, but if I did, I could click Related
| | 10:15 | Products and I could set up what products
are related to this one, that way when people
| | 10:19 | are viewing this, they might see some
recommendations of other things that they might need.
| | 10:24 | You can also set what are called Up-sells
here. We don't currently have anything, so
| | 10:28 | like if you had something that had an up-
sell attached to it, like you know, buy three,
| | 10:31 | get one free or whatever it might be,
you could set up things like that.
| | 10:35 | You can also do Cross-sells.
| | 10:37 | You can set up Product Reviews, you can set
up Product Tags, we'll talk about that in
| | 10:41 | the later movie as well.
| | 10:43 | You can also set up Customers Tagged Products
and Custom Options as well, we don't currently
| | 10:48 | have any of those either.
| | 10:49 | We have pretty much got all the
basic stuff we need for this product.
| | 10:53 | So if I click Save, it should save all of
this information and return me back out to
| | 10:58 | my main dashboard, and you'll notice
here that I have a new vintage robot.
| | 11:04 | If I want to go back in and check that again,
I can click it and it takes me right back
| | 11:08 | to this. I can change any of this
information that I want and go from there.
| | 11:13 | It should be noted that this will not show up in
your store until your store has been published.
| | 11:17 | So you don't have to worry about that.
| | 11:20 | I can go back to my dashboard and anytime
I need to get back to see those products,
| | 11:24 | I can go to Catalog > Manage Products and
that takes me here to this and I can set up
| | 11:31 | my products there.
| | 11:32 | So it is enabled, it is available in the catalog
as well as in search. It's going to be 19.95.
| | 11:37 | There is my SKU; it's using
the default attribute set.
| | 11:40 | It's a simple product, there is the title,
and again, clicking on it takes me to edit
| | 11:44 | that product at any time I wish.
| | 11:47 | So hopefully by now, you have a better understanding
of how to add in new products into your Magento
| | 11:52 | Go system, and how to alter things like the
product images, descriptions and even adding
| | 11:58 | things like pricing and search capabilities.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Managing product categories| 00:00 | In addition to setting product attributes,
you can also define things called the Product
| | 00:04 | Categories which allow you to organize
products into logical groups, so your customers can
| | 00:09 | easily find them in your store.
| | 00:11 | In order to go into the Catalog Categories
sections, just simply find the Catalog navigation
| | 00:16 | item, choose Manage Categories and it
should take you to this page right here.
| | 00:21 | When you first get in here, you have the ability to
choose either Add Root Category or Add Subcategory.
| | 00:25 | If you choose Add Root Category, it will
show you information like this, and basically a
| | 00:29 | Root Category is an overarching theme for a
category. So for instance, I'm going to be
| | 00:34 | doing toys in mine, so I'm
going to name this Toys.
| | 00:38 | I am going to say that it is active, and
then I also have the ability to add in several
| | 00:43 | other attributes here for this category.
| | 00:46 | So let's start off by
talking about the URL Key.
| | 00:48 | The URL Key is a field designed to improve
your search engine optimization ranking.
| | 00:53 | By default, the URL Key is automatically
generated based on the category names, so in this case,
| | 00:57 | it would be toys, or you could overwrite this field
with better SEO management if you wanted to.
| | 01:03 | Other fields for better SEO management include
the Page Title down here at the bottom, also
| | 01:09 | the Description, the Meta
Keywords and the Meta Description.
| | 01:14 | These are all put in there for SEO, search
engine optimization. It is my recommendation
| | 01:18 | that you work with somebody who has
significant SEO experience, like an online marketer, to
| | 01:23 | help you develop great descriptions and keywords
for your products, making them easier for people
| | 01:28 | to find and thus
increasing your page rank as well.
| | 01:32 | The only things that are required here are
your name, whether or not it's active or not,
| | 01:36 | and if you include it in the
Navigational Menu, which I suggest you do.
| | 01:41 | Once you have that set up, just choose Save
Category and so once you do that, you now
| | 01:46 | have a category called Toys, in this case, and I can
also start to add subcategories to this as well.
| | 01:52 | So if I click Add Subcategory that takes me
here, and that allows me to create a subcategory,
| | 01:58 | and I can then name it and give descriptions
just like I could anything else, and so in
| | 02:03 | this case, I am going to call this Robots. I
am going to say yes it is active, and it
| | 02:09 | is available in the navigation,
and I'll save the category.
| | 02:12 | Once I've saved the category, you will see
that Toys now has Robots underneath it, and
| | 02:18 | I'll click back on Toys to make that my active
category, and then I'll add another subcategory
| | 02:22 | here, and I'll call this one Cars, yes it is
active, and yes it is in the menu, and I'll
| | 02:31 | click Save Category.
| | 02:33 | And so now I have Toys as the overarching
category, I have Robots and Cars underneath
| | 02:38 | there as well, and I could add as
many subcategories as I wanted to.
| | 02:43 | I can then go in and select
Category Products for any one of these.
| | 02:48 | I can also just go back out to my Catalog
and choose Manage Products, find any of the
| | 02:55 | products that I have, in this case, my
Vintage Yellow Robot, I'll click on that, and I'll
| | 02:59 | go down to Categories, I'll take it out of
the Default Category, put it in Toys and put
| | 03:04 | it in Robots, and then I'll choose Save.
| | 03:08 | Once I do that, it takes me back out here
and if I go into my Categories section again,
| | 03:15 | it takes me back, and you can see that I now
have one item in the Toys category and one
| | 03:21 | item in the Robots category.
| | 03:23 | So it's always going to show you a running
tally of how many products of this particular
| | 03:28 | category or subcategory that you have.
| | 03:31 | That's how you quickly add new categories
to your system and organize your products
| | 03:36 | into individual groups, making them easier
for people to find them and then hopefully,
| | 03:40 | purchase them as well.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Setting checkout options| 00:00 | One of the more important things to set up
inside of your new online store are the checkout
| | 00:04 | options, because this is what is going to
control the overall experience of the checkout
| | 00:09 | process for your prospective customers.
| | 00:11 | In order to do that, what you need to do is
find the System link and then go down to the
| | 00:16 | Configuration tab, and once you are inside
of the Configuration tab, that should take
| | 00:21 | you to a section where you're able to find
General Options, Catalog Options, Customer
| | 00:26 | Options and the most
important here, Sales Options.
| | 00:30 | And so if you go down into the Sales Options
and choose Checkout, this will enable you
| | 00:35 | to work with the Checkout Options.
| | 00:38 | Checkout Options is first tab
here and I'll click on that.
| | 00:41 | Do you enable Onepage Checkout? That means
everything is contained on one page. They
| | 00:45 | don't have to go anywhere else;
everything happens on one page.
| | 00:49 | I recommend that you leave that turned to Yes,
because of the simple fact that everybody
| | 00:53 | wants to just have a single streamlined experience,
so it's really good to have this Enable Onepage
| | 00:59 | Checkout checked.
| | 01:00 | Do you allow Guest Checkout? Checking Yes
here allows guest to complete the checkout
| | 01:05 | process without actually
creating an account on the system.
| | 01:09 | No, requires that the people create an account
with your store before completing the checkout
| | 01:13 | process, again, this is up to you if you want
to require people to sign up for an account
| | 01:19 | or if you don't, totally up to you.
| | 01:21 | In this case I would allow Guest Checkout
just because a lot of people don't like to
| | 01:24 | create more accounts when they have to online,
so allowing Guest Checkout really enables
| | 01:28 | them to swiftly buy what
they need, get in and get out.
| | 01:32 | Do you want to Enable Terms and Conditions? If
you want to display the Terms and Conditions
| | 01:36 | during checkout, then set this to Yes,
if not, then you can set it to No.
| | 01:42 | If you don't have terms and conditions, my
suggestion would be to consult with a lawyer
| | 01:46 | or a legal professional to draw up some terms
and conditions, especially if you are selling
| | 01:50 | online services, that way people know exactly what
they're getting and how they can use them, et cetera.
| | 01:55 | If you want to enable those once you have
them written, come back in and choose Yes.
| | 01:59 | For now I don't have any terms and
conditions, so I am just going to say No.
| | 02:03 | Once I have this done, I am going to expand
out the second column here, and the Shopping
| | 02:07 | Cart; after adding a product, do you want to
redirect this person to the Shopping Cart?
| | 02:12 | That means once I've added a product to my
Shopping Cart, do I redirect them to the Shopping
| | 02:17 | Cart area? If you want to do yes, choose Yes;
if no, choose No, and they will remain on the
| | 02:22 | page that they are on.
| | 02:23 | I am going to choose yes, because
I want them to go to their cart.
| | 02:27 | Do you want to show the Product Thumbnail
Itself or do you want to show a Parent Product
| | 02:31 | Thumbnail? So if you have more than one product,
do you want to show the overarching image
| | 02:35 | or just the individual one per product?
Configurable Product Image, again, you can choose this.
| | 02:40 | Again, totally up to you,
what you want to choose here.
| | 02:43 | And basically, this is just controlling what
thumbnail image displays in the cart while
| | 02:48 | the person is viewing their cart.
| | 02:50 | So let's open up the My Cart Link.
| | 02:52 | Do you display the Cart Summary, along with
item quantities or do you display the number
| | 02:56 | of items in the cart? So in this case I am going
to choose to do number of items in the cart.
| | 03:02 | The Shopping Cart Sidebar, do you want to display
the Shopping Cart Sidebar? That means in the
| | 03:06 | sidebar of your website is there a thing that
shows what is currently in the cart, and Maximum
| | 03:10 | Display of Recently Added Items; that means
if someone is shopping on my website and they
| | 03:15 | have picked out 10 or 15 items, how
many do you want them to actually show?
| | 03:20 | Showing a large amount can really take up
some valuable real estate in that sidebar,
| | 03:24 | so 3 seems about right for me.
I might even reduce that to 2.
| | 03:28 | And then finally, Payment Failed Emails.
| | 03:30 | Basically, the Payment Failed Emails section
allows you to configure the email template
| | 03:35 | to be used, the recipient as well as the
sender of the email notification messages that are
| | 03:40 | sent whenever a customer's transaction fails.
You can say the Payment Failed Email Receiver
| | 03:47 | that is who, who receives this
email, you can choose that.
| | 03:51 | The Payment Failed Email Sender
that means who is this coming from.
| | 03:55 | You can also choose the Payment Failed
Template and this one is just the default template,
| | 03:59 | you can set those up in your email section.
| | 04:02 | Send Payment Failed Copy To, whom, if you
would like to send a copy of a failed transaction
| | 04:07 | to someone, for instance, if this is coming
to a general sales email, you may want to
| | 04:11 | have this forwarded to your personal email,
so that you can get this right away and you
| | 04:15 | can deal with it.
| | 04:17 | Send Payment Email Copy Method of what, do
you want it to be blind carbon copy or do
| | 04:22 | you want it as a separate email?
| | 04:23 | In most cases, I would probably choose Separate
Email, that way if you happen to accidentally
| | 04:28 | reply to it or something, it doesn't go
back to anybody that you didn't wanted to.
| | 04:32 | And so once you have all of these options set
up, your Checkout Options are now completely
| | 04:36 | set and you can choose Save Config and that
will save these configurations and now the
| | 04:42 | checkout process is pretty
much locked in for your store.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adjusting tax settings| 00:00 | One setting that you are going to want to
make sure that you get absolutely correct
| | 00:03 | inside of your Magento Go store, before you
take the store live is your tax settings, and
| | 00:07 | the tax settings can be adjusted by going
to Start My Store, going down to Payments
| | 00:12 | and then setting Set Tax Calculations.
| | 00:15 | Once you go into Set Tax Calculations, you
will be brought to this box here where it
| | 00:18 | says that in order to get your store ready to
accept orders, you need to set up tax rates
| | 00:23 | that are appropriate for your business.
| | 00:25 | It also explains that tax rates can be set
down to a ZIP or postal code level to adjust
| | 00:30 | for variants in different areas
of tax rates for localized taxes.
| | 00:34 | Once you have created your tax rates, then
you have to specify something called a tax
| | 00:38 | rule which defines what rates
to use and when to use them.
| | 00:42 | You can also create multiple tax rates and
multiple tax rules that can be applied to
| | 00:46 | different types of products
or even different customers.
| | 00:48 | So if you have like a retail set of customers, a
wholesale set of customers, or a set of customers
| | 00:53 | who buy things at cost, different
things like that can adjust the tax rate.
| | 00:57 | And then when you are ready to get started,
it tells you need to set up at least one tax
| | 01:00 | rate and at least one tax rule.
| | 01:02 | If you need more information on this, there is
a Knowledge Base article that you can click
| | 01:07 | on, so if I clicked here and open this in a
new tab, it takes you to this page to show
| | 01:12 | you all of the information about tax rates.
| | 01:15 | So this is everything you probably ever want
to know about setting up tax calculations.
| | 01:19 | Now it's not the most exciting thing in the
world, but it is very important, especially
| | 01:22 | now that online commerce is becoming more of
a vetted area. People are looking at this
| | 01:27 | a little bit closer especially
with the taxes and things online.
| | 01:30 | So you need to make sure that
you get this stuff correct.
| | 01:33 | So let's click Continue right now and that's
going to take me into the Manage Tax Rates
| | 01:37 | section, and so I already have two in here by
default. You may or may not see these yourself.
| | 01:42 | To add a new tax rate, you just
simply click Add New Tax Rate right here.
| | 01:47 | Then you give it a Tax Identifier.
| | 01:48 | So for instance, let's say I am from Kentucky,
I can set up KY State Tax, Country is United
| | 01:54 | States, the state of course is Kentucky.
| | 01:58 | I'm not going to filter by ZIP or postal code,
but I am going to give it a tax rate percentage,
| | 02:02 | and so the tax rate in Kentucky is around 6%
and I would actually go and find the exact
| | 02:07 | percentage but I am pretty sure
it's around 6. Click Save Rate.
| | 02:12 | Once I have saved that rate, you will see
it pops up here, Kentucky State Tax, United
| | 02:15 | States, Kentucky and 6% and now what I
need to do is set up a tax rule for this.
| | 02:23 | So in order to do that, I need to go to the
Sales tab, I need to go down to Tax and I
| | 02:27 | need to go to Manage Tax Rules.
| | 02:30 | So once I am inside of the Manage Tax
Rules section, I need to add a new tax rule.
| | 02:35 | And I'll give it a name, so in this case,
I'll just call this KY State, I want it to
| | 02:39 | apply to Retail Customers, on all Taxable
Goods and I want to apply the Kentucky State
| | 02:46 | Tax Rule. You can also prioritize and sort
your tax rules if you want to, I am not going
| | 02:50 | to do that this time though.
| | 02:52 | Once I have all this set up, I'll just choose
Save Rule, and I now have that rule in place,
| | 02:58 | so anytime someone comes to this site and
purchases something from Kentucky, it will
| | 03:02 | charge them 6% sales tax, same way with if
I lived in California, New York, wherever
| | 03:08 | it might be, I could set that up so that it
would charge the appropriate tax amount for
| | 03:12 | the goods that I am selling in my store.
| | 03:14 | This is something that's very important and
also something you want to do your homework
| | 03:17 | on to make sure you get the right tax rates
for where you live, and make sure that you
| | 03:20 | adjust for any localized differences between
ZIP or postal codes as well, because Magento
| | 03:26 | Go gives you the power to do just that and
gives you a finite level of control over all
| | 03:30 | of these individual tax settings, which is
really going to help your business in the long run.
| | 03:35 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Working with shipping methods| 00:00 | Once you have nailed down the checkout
process for your store here inside of Magento Go,
| | 00:04 | you also need to set up
something called shipping methods.
| | 00:08 | And the shipping method refers to how are
you going to get the products that people
| | 00:11 | buy to the customers?
| | 00:14 | In order to set this up, you are going to
go to the System section and you're going
| | 00:17 | to go down to Configuration again.
| | 00:20 | Once you've reached the Configuration section,
scroll down and on the left-hand side, find
| | 00:24 | the link that says Shipping Methods.
| | 00:26 | Once you get to the Shipping Methods home
screen, this is going to show you all of the
| | 00:30 | different options that
you have available to you.
| | 00:33 | And so the first one is just going to be
the easiest one and that's Flat Rate.
| | 00:37 | And so Flat Rate means you offer the same
shipping method for everything and it's the
| | 00:42 | same price across the board.
| | 00:44 | If you want to do this, that's fine, it is
the easiest way to do it and you can just
| | 00:48 | set up all of these
different options based on this.
| | 00:50 | The first thing you need to do though is set
it to yes, title it whatever you want to call
| | 00:54 | it. Method Name, whatever you want to call
that, set it per item, per order or none.
| | 01:00 | In this case, I am going to do Per Order and
then you could do something like $5 per order,
| | 01:05 | whatever it might be.
| | 01:06 | This is going to get a little dicey though,
depending on what you're selling and it's
| | 01:10 | not actually recommended to do this as well.
| | 01:12 | Now if you are selling the same thing over
and over and over, let's say you're selling
| | 01:16 | just one single product that weighs the same
across the board, there is very little variation
| | 01:21 | and you already know the weight and how much
it costs to ship, flat rate shipping might
| | 01:24 | be the answer for you.
| | 01:26 | If you're selling lots of products that vary
in weight and size and things like that, this
| | 01:29 | is probably not the option for you, so set
this to No, and then collapse that back up.
| | 01:35 | And you can go in and you can
change some of these others.
| | 01:38 | Table Rates Shipping, lets you calculate shipping
rates based on the combination of several conditions.
| | 01:43 | This can be based on weight versus destination,
price versus destination or number of items
| | 01:48 | versus destinations.
| | 01:49 | So you can come in here and you can enable
that and then you can change the condition
| | 01:53 | here and then make all of these
different edits accordingly.
| | 01:56 | You can also offer free shipping.
| | 01:59 | If you want to offer free shipping, that's
something that's pretty popular here on the
| | 02:02 | web today, a lot of
companies offering free shipping.
| | 02:05 | And then you have several different versions
of carriers that you are able to use as well.
| | 02:11 | UPS stands for United Parcel Service, and it
offers domestic and international shipping services.
| | 02:16 | You can also use USPS, which is
the United States Postal Service.
| | 02:20 | It's the independent postal
service of the US government.
| | 02:23 | You also have FedEx (Deprecated) which is
sort of out of date at this time, and most
| | 02:27 | of the time people are going to use FedEx.
| | 02:29 | So FedEx here, you can enable this
and then enter in your information.
| | 02:33 | In most cases with these, what you're going to have
to do is set up an account with these carriers.
| | 02:39 | So you need to go to UPS and get an account,
FedEx and get an account, or DHL and get an
| | 02:43 | account, because you're going to have to enter
in those credentials somewhere along the line
| | 02:48 | inside of these carrier dropdowns.
| | 02:52 | So if you're using UPS, FedEx, DHL, whatever
it might be, go set up an account because
| | 02:58 | you are going to need stuff like your access
ID and your password as well as your account
| | 03:01 | number in order to make this work.
| | 03:04 | If you're just going to be sending it on your
own, using the United States Postal Service,
| | 03:09 | you can do that, you don't
necessarily have to have a username or ID.
| | 03:13 | If you want to offer flat rate Shipping, again,
no accounts or anything required for that,
| | 03:17 | and certainly with free shipping
there's nothing to worry about.
| | 03:20 | Once you have finished with that, just go
ahead and hit Save Configuration and that
| | 03:24 | saves it and now your shipping methods are
determined for each of your products that
| | 03:28 | is a global setting that affects all
of your orders and all of your stores.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Taking your store live| 00:00 | Once you have got all of your store settings
in place and you've got some products inside
| | 00:03 | of your store, it's time
to take your store live.
| | 00:07 | Up until now, we've been working under the
assumption that the store is not necessarily
| | 00:10 | published yet, and you will notice that by
seeing this across the top, the this store
| | 00:14 | is under construction and any orders placed, will
not be honored or fulfilled.
| | 00:18 | In order to take this live, so that you can
start taking orders and actually start making
| | 00:23 | money, you need to go up to Start My Store, go
down to Get Going and select Launch Your Store.
| | 00:30 | Once you do that, you will be brought to
this screen where it says you're almost there.
| | 00:34 | We have one final reminder for
you prior to launching your site.
| | 00:37 | If you would like your customers to be able
to complete the checkout process entirely
| | 00:40 | from your own web address, for example, www.mystore.com,
you'll need to go ahead and set up your own
| | 00:47 | domain and custom SSL certificate.
| | 00:49 | For more information on enabling that, you can view
these two links which take you to those pages.
| | 00:53 | I do cover setting up a custom domain in this course,
so you might want to check out that movie as well.
| | 00:59 | That's going to be in the Customizing
Your Store chapter, a little bit later on.
| | 01:03 | It tells you that when you're ready to launch
your store and open for business, click the
| | 01:06 | Go button at the bottom of the screen.
| | 01:09 | This will then take your store live
and allow you to be open for business.
| | 01:13 | If you're not ready to do this yet, you can simply
click Cancel and it will take you right back out.
| | 01:19 | My recommendation is to go through all of
these different steps one more time, check
| | 01:24 | them out, make sure you have got everything
set up the way you want, then go through your
| | 01:28 | product listings again, make sure everything
has been tweaked properly in there, make sure
| | 01:31 | the images are okay, make sure the descriptions
are in place, make sure all of the attributes
| | 01:36 | are exactly the way you want them.
| | 01:38 | And then once you're ready to launch your
store, just come right back up to this little
| | 01:41 | bar, click Start My Store > Get Going > Launch
Your Store, and when you click the Go button,
| | 01:48 | your store is now open for business and
you're ready to start taking in some money.

3. Setting Up Payment GatewaysExploring payment methods| 00:00 | In order to start accepting payments inside
of your Magento Go store, you'll need to set
| | 00:04 | up and understand the payment
methods that are available to you.
| | 00:07 | In order to do that, let's go up
to the Start My Store link here and go down
| | 00:09 | to the payment options, and inside of Payments you'll
notice you have three tabs that you can access.
| | 00:14 | The first one is Setup PayPal Express Checkout,
and PayPal Express Checkout basically means
| | 00:19 | that users will be able to pay you directly
using PayPal or via MasterCard, Visa, Discover
| | 00:25 | or American Express.
| | 00:28 | It'll tell you that when you receive your
first PayPal payment they'll let you know
| | 00:31 | and guide you through the simple account setup so
you can enjoy the benefits of Express Checkout,
| | 00:35 | which basically means as soon as someone buys
something from your store, you will see an
| | 00:39 | email come to the Inbox of the email address
that you choose while you were setting up
| | 00:44 | your account here, and you will be able to then be
guided through the process of receiving said payment.
| | 00:50 | You can also enter in your PayPal
payment email address right here.
| | 00:55 | If this is different from the email address
in which you signed up for Magento Go with
| | 00:59 | then simply take this email address, delete it,
and enter in a new email address in that
| | 01:03 | field and click Update.
| | 01:05 | It also tells you that for your convenience they've
automatically enabled PayPal Express Checkout.
| | 01:10 | If this is something you don't want, you don't
want people to be allowed to pay you via PayPal,
| | 01:14 | you want to use some other form of checkout
system whether it be Authorize.Net or some
| | 01:19 | other form of payment gateway, then you can
disable PayPal Express Checkout by clicking
| | 01:24 | right here, and it will automatically disable
it, meaning it's no longer active and you'll
| | 01:30 | see an Enable button right there.
| | 01:31 | If you ever want to turn that back on you
can simply Enable it and turn right back on.
| | 01:36 | So from here I can click out, and when I go
back to Start My Store and go down to Payments
| | 01:40 | you'll notice that if I choose PayPal Express
one more time, it is not enabled anymore and
| | 01:45 | I can go back to set up anything else.
| | 01:48 | I also have other payment options. If I click
other payment options here, it'll tell you
| | 01:53 | that there are a number of different payment
options that they accept here with Magento
| | 01:56 | Go and they also allow you to accept
credit cards directly on your site.
| | 02:02 | All of these options do require you to create
an account with a so-called payment provider
| | 02:06 | and then configure your store
to work with that account.
| | 02:10 | Now while I'll be going over all of the different
payment gateways that are supported in another
| | 02:14 | movie, but just know that there are several
available to you including PayPal, Authorize.Net
| | 02:19 | and several others that you can use to accept
payments directly inside of your Magento Go store.
| | 02:25 | From here you will simply go to Continue.
Once you're inside of the next screen you
| | 02:31 | will see all of the different payment methods
that you're able to set up including PayPal,
| | 02:36 | Sage Pay, Check/Money Order.
| | 02:39 | There are all kinds of options available to you
including an ever popular one Authorize.net.
| | 02:43 | We'll be going through several of these
individually and some upcoming movies so don't worry about
| | 02:48 | that. I am going to cover PayPal as well as
Authorize.net, and also Google Checkout as well.
| | 02:55 | Once you've setup your payment gateway all
you have to do is click Save Config and it
| | 02:58 | will automatically save that and you can then
begin accepting your payments directly on your website.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Understanding payment gateways| 00:00 | In the previous movie, we talked about the
various payment methods that are available
| | 00:03 | to you inside of Magento Go.
| | 00:06 | In addition to those payment methods, we also
have payment gateways that we can tie them into.
| | 00:11 | And so the payment gateways make it possible
for you to accept credit payments directly
| | 00:15 | in your store, and Magento Go does support
a wide range of these payment gateways as
| | 00:20 | well, and you can see them
listed on this page here.
| | 00:23 | You just go to go.magento.com/support/kb/entry/
name/understanding-payment-methods/.
| | 00:32 | You can also access that from the knowledgebase,
which is available at go.magento.com.
| | 00:39 | And inside of this information here you are
going to find all of the different payment
| | 00:42 | gateways that are accepted, including ones
that are worldwide, ones that are specific
| | 00:46 | to North America, ones that are specific to
Europe and ones that are Oceana as well.
| | 00:52 | And you'll see that there are some pretty
famous names on here like PayPal, Authorize.Net,
| | 00:57 | CyberSource, First Data Global, PSI Gate,
Braintree, Car Gate Plus, Payone, Sage Pay,
| | 01:05 | and eWAY Direct, and so this actually tells
you the countries in which they are accepted.
| | 01:11 | You can click on the individual
services to see something about them.
| | 01:14 | So for instance, if I wanted some more
information about PayPal, I can click on PayPal and that
| | 01:18 | would take me to a page that describes PayPal
itself, also how to gain access to PayPal,
| | 01:24 | how to use Express Checkout, how to use
some of their all-in-one solutions, et cetera.
| | 01:28 | So if you're not really sold on
one of these particular gateways,
| | 01:31 | you can come here to this page and you can
find out information about them, and then use
| | 01:36 | that information to decide which one is best
for you, and then when you go back into your
| | 01:41 | System Configuration you can then set up whichever one
you choose inside of your Payment Methods section.
| | 01:47 | So you can set up PayPal, you could set up
Authorize.Net fairly easily by simply clicking
| | 01:52 | it and entering in all of the
required information, and so on.
| | 01:56 | Once you have read up on all of the different
payment gateways that are available to you
| | 01:59 | to process your electronic transactions here
inside of Magento Go, pick out and that's
| | 02:05 | going to be the one that you use throughout
your entire site, and then once you have that
| | 02:09 | account set up, come back into Magento Go,
configure it up using the options inside of
| | 02:13 | the System Configuration and you'll be well
on your way to accepting payments for your
| | 02:18 | merchandise, here inside of Magento Go.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Setting up PayPal payments| 00:00 | One of the easiest ways to start accepting
payments in your Magento Go store is to use PayPal.
| | 00:06 | And Magento Go also supports something called
PayPal Express Checkout which basically means
| | 00:10 | people come to your site, they can pay using
their PayPal account or a credit card, and
| | 00:14 | they can simply just send you money into your
PayPal account, and the best part about it
| | 00:19 | is a PayPal account is completely free.
| | 00:22 | In order to access that you are going to go
into your Payment Methods section of your
| | 00:26 | Configuration dashboard.
| | 00:28 | In order to get there just go to
System and then go down to Configuration.
| | 00:33 | Once you're inside of the Configuration section, you want
to scroll down into Sales and choose Payment Methods.
| | 00:40 | Once you do that, it's going to take you to
this screen and to set a PayPal Express Checkout
| | 00:43 | is actually pretty easy, you just come right
here and you can choose Configure, and once
| | 00:48 | you're inside of the Configuration screen
you can remove the email address that's there
| | 00:52 | currently, because that's the email address you use
to sign up for your Magento Go store originally.
| | 00:58 | If this is not your PayPal email
address then simply delete it.
| | 01:01 | If you do not have a PayPal account yet, you
can simply click here to create an account
| | 01:07 | and it will take you to this page right
here to set up PayPal Express Checkout.
| | 01:11 | It tells you there are three steps, you sign-up
for a PayPal business account, it takes between
| | 01:14 | three to five minutes to do, then you confirm
your email address which means PayPal will
| | 01:19 | send you an email and you will have to
confirm that this is your email address, and then
| | 01:23 | you add the PayPal Payment button to your site,
or simply authorize Magento Go to do that.
| | 01:28 | So let's go ahead and let's sign-
up for a PayPal account here.
| | 01:33 | Once I do that it's going to take me to the
Express Checkout creation screen and I'll
| | 01:37 | just choose Create New Account. I'm in the
United States, I am speaking English, so I'll
| | 01:41 | just go ahead and create a new account.
| | 01:43 | I first have to choose my business type.
| | 01:45 | So in this case, I'm an individual, the email
address that I want to use here, type in a
| | 01:51 | password, then it's going to
ask me a security question.
| | 01:57 | Who is my favorite historical person? And
let's go to question number two, who is your
| | 02:02 | favorite author? And I'll
enter in an author just like so.
| | 02:06 | Now at the bottom you'll have to enter in
this confirmation code, so that's just like
| | 02:10 | so and we'll hit Continue.
| | 02:13 | Once I do that it's going to take me to step
two where I enter an information about myself.
| | 02:17 | So my online business or service it's going to
be Big Robot Toys and the date the business
| | 02:23 | was established, website
URL, this is optional.
| | 02:28 | So since I don't have a website URL
right now, I'm not going to enter that.
| | 02:31 | Category; Toys and hobbies. Subcategory; Vintage and
collectibles, Do you sell digital goods? No, I do not.
| | 02:40 | What will your average monthly payment
volume be? Now this is just an estimate so let's
| | 02:44 | do between 5,000 to 25,000.
| | 02:48 | What will your average transaction amount be?
Probably less than $25, most of my stuff is about $20.
| | 02:54 | What percentage of your annual revenue will
come from online sales? Well, that depends
| | 02:57 | if you have a brick and mortar store it
might be less. If you have only an online store
| | 03:01 | then it's probably higher than that. In this case,
I'm pretty much 50-50, so I'll do 25% to 50%.
| | 03:07 | Do you sell on eBay? Not currently.
| | 03:10 | Your customer service email address, this
is optional and if you click why it tells
| | 03:14 | you that this is the email address that will
appear on your customer's payment page as
| | 03:17 | it gives them the opportunity to contact you
if you have any questions about their order.
| | 03:22 | So you can put in a email
address here, you don't have to.
| | 03:25 | Owner contact information and we can do phone
number, city, state and zip, and we'll click
| | 03:34 | Agree and Continue.
| | 03:36 | Once we do that I have now signed up for a
PayPal account, and once I do that I should
| | 03:41 | get an email, and inside of that email,
I can then activate my PayPal account.
| | 03:47 | Once you have activated your PayPal account
you'll get another email, telling you you've
| | 03:50 | successfully set it up, and if you click on
the PayPal logo on the PayPal side, it should
| | 03:55 | take you to the PayPal homepage.
| | 03:58 | I can log in and you can see
now that everything is set up.
| | 04:04 | So if I go back into my Configuration here,
I'll just type in the email address that I
| | 04:09 | used, I'll enable this solution, and I want to
grant permission to Magento Go with PayPal.
| | 04:16 | I'll click here, hit OK to the box that pops
up, it's going to redirect me over to PayPal
| | 04:21 | for just a moment.
| | 04:23 | Once I get over there, it's
going to ask me to log in again.
| | 04:26 | So now you are going to agree to allow Magento Go to
access this and process payments on your behalf.
| | 04:32 | Once you agree to that you'll have to come
down and enter in bank account information,
| | 04:37 | or you can enter in your business credit card.
You can skip this and add it later or you
| | 04:42 | can click Continue.
| | 04:44 | Once you do that everything should be all set up,
and I'll go back to Magento Go, go to My Account.
| | 04:52 | Once I'm inside my account, I'll go to manage
my store, inside of my store I then go to
| | 04:56 | System > Configuration, we'll scroll down
here and we'll go down to Payment Methods,
| | 05:06 | and inside of Payment Methods, I can go
right here to PayPal Express Checkout, and if I
| | 05:12 | go back to Configure you can see here that
there is my Account, account status is Active.
| | 05:17 | I can set up or change my site permissions with
Paypal, but as of right now everything is good to go.
| | 05:22 | So I can save that configuration and
it will take me back to the dashboard.
| | 05:27 | If you'd like more information about PayPal
and how to use it effectively in your business,
| | 05:32 | I would suggest checking out the PayPal
Essential Training with Christopher Matthew Spencer
| | 05:37 | which is available in the lynda.com
online training library.
| | 05:40 | There are some great stuff in here on setting
up PayPal, using PayPal for business purposes
| | 05:45 | and things like that.
| | 05:46 | I walked you through the basics of creating
an account and hooking it to Magento, but
| | 05:50 | PayPal Essential Training is a great way to
get some more information on how to use it
| | 05:54 | and the ins and outs of actually putting
money in, getting money out, et cetera.
| | 05:59 | So hopefully by now, you have a better
understanding of what PayPal is, how to set it up, and how
| | 06:03 | to configure it with your
Magento Go online store.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Setting up Authorize.Net payments| 00:00 | Another popular payment gateway on the Internet
today is something called Authorize.Net, and
| | 00:06 | Authorize.Net allows you to accept payments
online basically by utilizing their system
| | 00:10 | much the same way you
would something like PayPal.
| | 00:13 | The difference between Authorize.Net and
something like PayPal is the fact that Authorize.Net
| | 00:17 | does not have any free options; you
actually have to pay to use Authorize.Net.
| | 00:22 | They do have some selling points, they're a
little bit more scalable in some people's
| | 00:26 | opinion. They do allow you to process credit
cards and transactions without actually having
| | 00:31 | to use something like a PayPal account for
instance. The buyer does not have to have
| | 00:35 | an Authorize.Net account to purchase from you.
| | 00:38 | So in order to get an Authorize.Net account,
just go to Authorize.Net and then click the
| | 00:43 | big Sign Up Now button right here.
| | 00:46 | Once you do that, you'll be taken through a
three step process where you will enter in
| | 00:49 | information about yourself and
your company on the first part here.
| | 00:53 | You will then be taken to create your login
ID and password, and then finally, you will
| | 00:57 | submit your application.
| | 00:59 | You will need a lot of information
when you're going through this process.
| | 01:02 | The information you need is
listed over here on the right.
| | 01:05 | You will need your company information; that's the name,
the address, the phone number, that kind of stuff.
| | 01:09 | You will also need the account owner's
information; name, address, and phone number.
| | 01:13 | You will need bank account
information for billing.
| | 01:15 | So where are they going to actually charge
you to, is it going to be your bank account,
| | 01:19 | your credit card, et cetera.
| | 01:20 | You will need merchant account information
if that is something that you're interested
| | 01:24 | in, and you will also need to know that the
application does take 10 to 15 minutes to
| | 01:28 | complete, and they do offer a Help
section to get you started as well.
| | 01:33 | If you want to know the pricing upfront, just
click the Pricing button right here, and you'll
| | 01:37 | see that the setup fee is $99, the monthly gateway
fee is $20, and they do charge a per-transaction
| | 01:44 | fee of 10 cents per transaction,
and a batch fee of 25 cents.
| | 01:49 | There are more details available as
you're going through the application process.
| | 01:53 | So if you have any questions about the
payments, they will hopefully answer those there.
| | 01:56 | They do also have email support down here, a
phone number that you can call, very easy to do.
| | 02:02 | Once you have set this up and get all the
information you need, go back into your Magento
| | 02:07 | dashboard if you're going to use Authorize.Net,
and you'll go to System > Configuration.
| | 02:13 | Inside of the Configuration you are going to
scroll down until you find the Sales section
| | 02:17 | and then find Payment Methods.
| | 02:20 | Once the Payment Method screen loads, you're
going to scroll down until you find Authorize.Net
| | 02:25 | and expand it out.
| | 02:26 | You can choose to enable this.
| | 02:28 | Once you choose to enable it, you can then
give it a Title, Payment Action, you will
| | 02:33 | have to provide your API
Login ID and Transaction Key.
| | 02:37 | Those are both available to you inside of
your Settings on your Authorize.Net account.
| | 02:41 | So you can find more information
about that on the Authorize.Net site.
| | 02:45 | Do you want to email the customer? Yes, or no.
| | 02:49 | Type in your merchant's email, where is this
coming from, and tell it what type of credit
| | 02:54 | card you wish to accept; American Express,
Visa, MasterCard, Discover, et cetera.
| | 02:58 | You can then ask for credit card verification,
payment from which countries, you can specify
| | 03:04 | or allow all countries, it doesn't matter.
| | 03:07 | You can give your Transaction ID a prefix.
| | 03:10 | All of the options without a red
star again are simply optional.
| | 03:14 | Anything with a red star
next to it is required.
| | 03:16 | So none of this is actually required, because
of the fact that you can use whatever payment
| | 03:21 | gateway that you choose.
| | 03:22 | But if you want to set up Authorize.Net, you
can actually fill out all of this information
| | 03:27 | corresponding to the information in your Authorize.
Net profile, and then set up all the options that
| | 03:32 | you want for your site as well, like minimum
and maximum order totals, whether or not you're
| | 03:37 | running this in Test Mode, what the sorting order is,
all of that can be determined from this screen.
| | 03:43 | Once you have finished setting all of this up,
you can choose Save Config, Authorize.Net
| | 03:48 | will then become your new default payment
method here inside of Magento Go, and you can
| | 03:53 | process credit card payments directly from
your store using your Authorize.Net account.
| | 03:58 |
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Setting up Google Checkout| 00:00 | Another popular payment method online these
days is something called Google Checkout which
| | 00:04 | has now actually become
Google Wallet for buyers.
| | 00:08 | If you go to the Google website checkout.google.com,
it will take you to a page that looks similar
| | 00:13 | to this, and once you get to this page, you
can see that it tells you, you can increase
| | 00:17 | online sales by using Google Wallet.
| | 00:20 | It tells you here that Google Checkout is
now Google Wallet for buyers, and it's a fast
| | 00:24 | secure checkout process that is
basically tied to your Google account.
| | 00:27 | So you can sign into your Google account using
either your Gmail address or your Google Apps address.
| | 00:32 | And once you sign in, you will be able to start
using Google Checkout or Google Wallet for buyers.
| | 00:39 | You can see how it works by coming down here
to the About Google Checkout section, and
| | 00:43 | you can read the Learn More.
| | 00:44 | You can also see cost and fees, how to
get started, and all that good stuff.
| | 00:49 | Once you have that set up, you come back into
the Magento Go dashboard and go into System
| | 00:55 | and go down to Configuration.
| | 00:58 | And in order to set up Google Checkout, you
actually scroll down to the Sales section,
| | 01:02 | and inside of the Sales section,
there is a section called Google API.
| | 01:07 | Inside of the Google API, you can add a lot
of different Google services including Google
| | 01:11 | Analytics, Google AdWords, Google Checkout,
Google Shopping, Website Optimizer, Checkout
| | 01:17 | Shipping, all these different
things are available to you.
| | 01:20 | And if you want to just set up Google Checkout,
just click it, and then choose Enable, set to Yes.
| | 01:26 | And then come through and fill out all of
the information like your Merchant ID and
| | 01:29 | your Merchant Key which are available to you
inside of the Google Checkout admin dashboard.
| | 01:34 | You can also select the image that you use.
| | 01:36 | This will be set up within Google Checkout
as well, your location, new order statuses,
| | 01:41 | continue shopping, whereas if someone were
to add something to their cart, where does
| | 01:45 | it take them when they click Continue Shopping?
Do you want to hide the card? Do you disable
| | 01:50 | default tax tables, enable using shipping
rates from your Google accounts? So if you've
| | 01:54 | set this up, go ahead.
| | 01:57 | So once you have all this information set
up, you can click Save Config, and Google
| | 02:01 | Checkout will be added as a possible checkout
option when someone purchases an item from
| | 02:08 | your Magento Go store.

4. Customizing Your StoreAdding pages to your store| 00:00 | By default, there are several pages that are
created for you inside of your Magento Go system.
| | 00:04 | If you want to view these pages, go to
CMS > Pages > Manage Content.
| | 00:09 | When you first come to this list you are
going to see all of the different pages that
| | 00:12 | are automatically generated for you, like
an About Us page, Customer Service, Enable
| | 00:16 | Cookies, Home page, a 404 Not Found,
Privacy Policy and 503 Service Unavailable.
| | 00:21 | Again, these are all automatically generated
for you, you don't have to come up with the
| | 00:25 | content for these pages,
they are already published.
| | 00:27 | What if you want to add a page to this? For
instance, what if I wanted to add a page with
| | 00:31 | some contact information for instance? I
could go up here to the right, and click Add New
| | 00:36 | Page, and that allows me to go to the New
Page screen where I can then go and start
| | 00:40 | filling out information like
the Page Title and the URL Key.
| | 00:45 | The Page Title refers to what this page is
actually going to be called, the URL key is
| | 00:48 | what people will have to type in in order to
access this page,
| | 00:51 | so mywebsite.com/contactus.html for instance.
| | 00:56 | The Status of this page is
going to be set to Published.
| | 00:59 | And Under Version Control, this is totally
up to you, if you want to manage different
| | 01:03 | versions of this or you can manage
different revision sets, and so forth.
| | 01:07 | I find it a little bit cumbersome to do
this, so I'm going to set this to No,
| | 01:09 | that way I can always just edit that single page.
I don't have to worry about each individual
| | 01:14 | revision, and then I'm going to
choose Save and Continue Editing.
| | 01:17 | Once I do that, I'm going to be brought to
this screen where I can type in a content
| | 01:21 | heading, and I can also fill out
information inside of this as well.
| | 01:25 | And inside of this editor, I'm able to use all of
these different tools here to make changes to this.
| | 01:30 | So for instance, if I wanted the phone number here
to be bold, I could select that and make it bold.
| | 01:35 | If I wanted this information down here to
be in italics, I could put that in italics.
| | 01:40 | If I wanted this paragraph here at the top
to be a little bit bigger, I could change
| | 01:45 | the font size for instance to something like
14 points or maybe even larger at 18 points,
| | 01:51 | something like that.
| | 01:52 | Once I'm finished editing this information,
and I can do any number of things, I can add
| | 01:56 | images, video, I can do pretty much anything
I could inside of a word processor, I can
| | 02:01 | do inside of here.
| | 02:02 | All I have to do is click Save and Continue
Editing to continue with this, and then I
| | 02:06 | can go to the other parts of this as well.
| | 02:07 | I could go to the design phase, so I could
go back and change this to either Empty, 1
| | 02:12 | column, 2 columns, 2 columns with a right or
left bar, 3 columns, and I'm going to talk
| | 02:17 | about this in a future movie to
explain exactly what the differences are.
| | 02:20 | I can actually add a custom design, so this
page maybe has a custom design ranging from
| | 02:24 | this date until this date.
| | 02:26 | So if I'm running a special on one of these
pages, I can do that, I could also change
| | 02:29 | the theme and the layout based
upon this date range as well.
| | 02:34 | I can add metadata like keywords and a description,
making it easier for this page to be found in a search.
| | 02:39 | So for instance, keywords might be contact,
telephone, email, feedback, et cetera.
| | 02:47 | The Description; just paste in here some of that
information that I had before to add a description.
| | 02:54 | I'll click Save and Continue
Editing, and there we go!
| | 02:58 | Once you have all of this information set up,
you go ahead and click Save Page, and
| | 03:02 | that will save the page, and return
you back out into your page listings.
| | 03:05 | You'll see that it shows up here.
| | 03:07 | This is in alphabetical order, so you will see it
right there close to the top, it is published.
| | 03:11 | It tells you when it was published,
and you can also click to preview it.
| | 03:14 | When you click to preview it, you'll get a
pop-up window, or another tab as I got here
| | 03:19 | showing you exactly what you just did.
| | 03:20 | So here is we want your feedback, please
feel free to contact us with any questions.
| | 03:24 | There is the information that I entered in.
| | 03:26 | Notice this is bold, and this is italic, just
like I wanted it to be, and then I can close
| | 03:30 | that up and return back.
| | 03:32 | So anytime you need to create a new page
inside of Magento, remember you're just going to
| | 03:36 | go up to CMS > Pages > Manage Content, and
that will take you to this screen here.
| | 03:42 | You can view all of the auto generated pages
in the list at the bottom, and you can click
| | 03:46 | on any one of those to edit or
change the content of that page.
| | 03:49 | You can also add a new page by clicking Add
New Page, and then going to the steps that
| | 03:53 | we just discussed.

| Changing page layouts| 00:00 | There may come a time as you start to work
with and create your pages here inside of
| | 00:03 | Magento Go that you want to go back in and
alter the layout of that page, and you have
| | 00:08 | the ability to do that.
| | 00:10 | In order to access the Design section of the
pages, all you have to do is go back to CMS >
| | 00:14 | Pages, and choose Manage Content.
| | 00:17 | Once you get into the Manage Content section, you
are going to find the page you wish to edit.
| | 00:20 | In this case, I want to
change the Contact Us page.
| | 00:23 | And once I find that page, I need to
navigate over to the Design section.
| | 00:27 | Inside of the Design section, you
can choose a new layout option.
| | 00:30 | You have the option of Empty, 1 column, 2
columns with left bar, 2 columns with right
| | 00:35 | bar, and 3 columns.
| | 00:37 | Let's take a look at all of these, so you get an
idea of what they look like and how they work.
| | 00:41 | I'll start off with the 1 column layout,
that's what we're working with right now, and I'll
| | 00:46 | Save and Continue Editing this,
and then I'll preview it.
| | 00:49 | And so, when I look at this preview, you are
going to notice it's 1 column that spans the
| | 00:52 | entire width of the page.
| | 00:55 | So if you wanted that, this is
what the 1 column layout looks like.
| | 00:58 | Let's close that up and let's change
this now to 2 columns with a left bar.
| | 01:01 | I'll Save and Continue Editing
and then I'll click Preview.
| | 01:05 | When I preview it, you're going to notice
that right here in the middle is your Content
| | 01:10 | Block, and to the left, we have a Sidebar.
| | 01:12 | There's no content in that sidebar because
we haven't filled anything out inside of the
| | 01:16 | left bar section of our CMS blocks.
| | 01:19 | But in this case, if there was
anything in there, you would see it there.
| | 01:21 | You actually do see a
small navigation right there.
| | 01:25 | Let's close that up and go back.
| | 01:27 | I'll change this now to 2 columns with the right
bar, and I'll click Save and Continue Editing.
| | 01:32 | When I preview it this time, you'll see the
content has shifted to the left, and there
| | 01:36 | is a right sidebar over here, and we do have a
Compare Product screen, and also a Community
| | 01:41 | Poll over here as well.
| | 01:43 | These are auto-generated and
automatically a part of the sidebar.
| | 01:46 | You can go in and tweak these
and change them anytime you want.
| | 01:50 | Let's close this up, and go back, and take
a look at 3 columns, and I'll hit Save And
| | 01:55 | Continue Editing, and I'll preview it again.
| | 01:59 | And once I preview it, you'll notice that
we have the content smaller in the middle,
| | 02:03 | we also have this right
sidebar, and a left sidebar.
| | 02:06 | So we could actually flank the content
on both sides with more information.
| | 02:10 | So changing the layout allows you not only
to alter the look and feel of the page, but
| | 02:14 | also allows you to present more
information to your users in one single space.
| | 02:19 | So you can have new product listings, polls,
access to their shopping cart, different links,
| | 02:24 | anything you want can go in these sidebar
areas and that makes it so much more useful,
| | 02:29 | because you can get more information in front
of the customer while at the same time still
| | 02:33 | serving the purpose of giving them
meaningful information in the middle as well.
| | 02:38 | So the next time you need to go in and change
your page layout, remember, just go back up
| | 02:42 | to CMS > Pages, and choose Manage Content.
| | 02:45 | Once you're inside of that, check out the
Design tab on the left-hand side, and then
| | 02:49 | pick which layout you like
best; 1, 2, or 3 columns.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding links to the nav bar| 00:00 | One of the more confusing things that I found
as I was exploring the Magento Go system was
| | 00:05 | the fact that it's a little difficult to add a link
to your navigation bar inside of your homepage.
| | 00:10 | So as you can see on this homepage here, I've
got this product listing which is based upon
| | 00:14 | the product categories that I've created.
| | 00:16 | But I don't see any links to any
pages in my system whatsoever.
| | 00:20 | And so, I wanted to know exactly how to add
one of these pages to this, and so in order
| | 00:25 | to do that, you actually have
to create quite the workaround.
| | 00:27 | And so I'm going to walk you
through how to do that right now.
| | 00:30 | The first thing you'll need to do is go into
your Catalog section, and open up the Manage
| | 00:36 | Category section.
| | 00:37 | I'm just going to open this up in a new tab.
| | 00:39 | Once I have that done, I'm also going to go
into my CMS section, and I'm going to open
| | 00:43 | up the pages, and I am going to manage this
content and open it up in a new tab as well.
| | 00:48 | So now, I've got three basic tabs open; I've
got my Dashboard, I've got my Categories,
| | 00:52 | and I've got my Content for my pages all open.
| | 00:56 | I can close my Home page for now,
and also close my account dashboard.
| | 01:00 | So I'm only working with these three.
| | 01:02 | And so, we're going to start in the Categories,
and when we're inside the Categories section,
| | 01:05 | I'm going to pick my Default Category.
| | 01:08 | Your categories may look a little different
than this, that's just because I've cleaned
| | 01:10 | up some of mine to put them
into a product listing like so.
| | 01:14 | If you go back and watch the Categories
movie, you'll see how to do this exactly.
| | 01:18 | But when I select Default Category, the overarching
category, I need to add a new subcategory to this.
| | 01:25 | So let's say for instance that I
wanted to add a link to our About Us page.
| | 01:28 | So what I'm going to do is I'm going to call
this About Us, and you'd make sure that it
| | 01:32 | is set to Active, and then you also need to
make sure that down towards the bottom, that
| | 01:37 | the Include in Navigation Menu is set to Yes.
| | 01:42 | Then finally, you need to come up here, and make sure
the URL Key is something like about-us, just like that.
| | 01:49 | It needs to be all lowercase letters, and
no spaces, only hyphens or underscores, and
| | 01:53 | once you have that done, just click Save Category.
That should put a new category called About
| | 01:58 | Us over here on the left.
| | 01:59 | And so, once I do that, now if I go back to
my Home page, you'll see there is actually
| | 02:04 | a link right there.
| | 02:05 | But if I click on that, it doesn't go anywhere right
now, because we haven't told it to do anything.
| | 02:09 | This is merely linking to a
category that doesn't yet exist.
| | 02:12 | So once I have this done, I can then go back
over here to my Manage Pages, and I actually
| | 02:19 | do have an About Us page right there, and so,
here is my Magento Store URL key. This
| | 02:24 | is actually where I need it to go.
| | 02:27 | So I need to remember that.
| | 02:28 | So I'll just keep this open.
| | 02:29 | But this is what I'm looking for later on.
| | 02:31 | Once I have this done, I'm going to go back
over into my Dashboard, I'm going to go down
| | 02:37 | to Catalog, and go to URL Rewrite Management.
| | 02:41 | Once I do that, you should see your new category up
at the top here that says About Us right there.
| | 02:46 | The number may differ
based on your categories.
| | 02:49 | That's okay as long as it's about-us.html.
| | 02:52 | So what we're going to do here is we're going
to click on it, and once we click on it, we
| | 02:57 | are going to go down and find the target path
which is this area here, and we need to select
| | 03:01 | this just by clicking and dragging over it,
and we need to copy it to our clipboard with
| | 03:05 | Command+C or Ctrl+C.
| | 03:07 | After we have copied that to our clipboard,
we then need to go and set the Redirect to
| | 03:13 | 301 Permanent, and then we'll click Save.
| | 03:17 | Once we click Save, it takes us back out.
| | 03:19 | You can see now that this category now has
a RP next to it for Redirect Permanent.
| | 03:25 | Now once we have that done, we need to click in
the upper right-hand corner on Add URL Rewrite.
| | 03:32 | In the Create URL Rewrite section,
we need to change this to Custom.
| | 03:37 | In the ID path, we need to type the URL key of the
page link using only hyphens instead of spaces.
| | 03:44 | So basically, what we need to
do here is type out about-us.
| | 03:48 | For the request path, we need to paste in
the target path that we copied earlier, and
| | 03:53 | then we need to in the target path type out
the page link that we're trying to go to.
| | 03:59 | So let's go back over to the Pages here, and
let's just select this, copy that, go back
| | 04:06 | over into our URL rewrite, and paste it in.
| | 04:10 | And so, for the redirect here, we need to set
this to 301, and then we need to click Save.
| | 04:17 | Now this could take some time for the redirect
to work, but theoretically, when we go back
| | 04:22 | to our homepage and refresh, whether it be
now or sometime later, we should be able to
| | 04:26 | then click on this, and it takes us to our
About page that has been created just like so.
| | 04:33 | So it is a roundabout way of adding links to
your navigation bar, but that is how you do it.
| | 04:38 | To control how these are laid out in the
navigation bar, all you have to do is go back into your
| | 04:44 | Categories and adjust the stacking order here.
| | 04:46 | So if I want About Us to come before Products
in the listing, just drag it up until it's
| | 04:50 | above it, and let go.
| | 04:52 | When I go back to the page and refresh, you
can see that About Us and Products are going
| | 04:57 | to flip places in the navigational order.
| | 05:00 | So if you want to add links to the pages
inside of your Magento Go Store, or if you want to
| | 05:05 | add links to something like your Twitter or
Facebook profile, you follow exactly the steps
| | 05:09 | I just outlined there, and you'll be able
to add your links to your navigation bar.
| | 05:13 | Hopefully, after you've practiced it a
few times, it will get a little bit easier.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding products to the homepage| 00:00 | When you visit your homepage inside of your
Magento Go store, you're going to
| | 00:03 | notice something that is obviously absent and that's
your products. There's nothing on the homepage,
| | 00:08 | and so, by default, this is what happens and
we have to tell Magento Go to actually show
| | 00:13 | our products on our homepage.
| | 00:14 | In order to do that we need to go back into
our dashboard, and inside of the dashboard
| | 00:18 | we need to go back to something called CMS
and go down to something called Frontend Apps.
| | 00:24 | Inside of the Frontend Apps section you're
going to click on Add New Frontend App Instance
| | 00:29 | over here on the right.
| | 00:30 | Once that takes you through you are going
to go into the Settings and you're going to
| | 00:34 | pick Catalog New Product List, Continue.
| | 00:37 | You're then going to give it a App Instance
Title, this is required, so you just have
| | 00:41 | to kind of make up a name,
I'll call this newProds.
| | 00:45 | And click Save and Continue.
| | 00:48 | Now we actually have to tell it where to go,
| | 00:50 | so we have to add something
called a Layout Update.
| | 00:53 | Inside of the Layout Update I am going to
go down to specific page or Specified Page.
| | 00:59 | It's then going to load up the information
here, I am going to scroll down until I see
| | 01:02 | CMS Home Page; the Block Reference I
want this in the Main Content Area.
| | 01:07 | And so, again, if I switch back over, that's
this big area right here in the middle, and
| | 01:12 | then I want it in the New Products Grid
Template or a New Products List Template. Let's do
| | 01:16 | the Grid Template, and we'll Save
and Continue Editing, just like so.
| | 01:22 | If we want to change any of this we can go
to the Frontend App Options and we can say
| | 01:26 | Display what Type of products,
All products or only New products.
| | 01:30 | We can say do we want to Page this,
meaning there are several pages of products.
| | 01:34 | We can also limit the number of
products to display here as well.
| | 01:38 | So I am not going to change any of these. I
am just going to click Save, and now when I
| | 01:42 | go back into my Manage Frontend App Instances
screen, I should see this one right here, newProds,
| | 01:47 | it is a Catalog New Products List.
| | 01:49 | And if I go back to my homepage and refresh
it, I now have my new products showing up
| | 01:55 | on the home screen.
| | 01:56 | And if you see any problems here this
is a good time to go in and check that.
| | 02:00 | So for instance right here, on this Blue
Robot, I'm noticing there's no photo.
| | 02:04 | And so this is a good time to go back into
your settings, go into your Catalog > Manage
| | 02:10 | Products and I'll find the Blue Robot, and
I go to Images, and as you can see I don't
| | 02:17 | have any of the images set, so I'll
just go and make some changes to that.
| | 02:21 | And once I do I'll save it, go back to my homepage,
let's do a little refresh and there is the robot.
| | 02:28 | Now those are displayed prominently on my
homepage and if I were to click on one of
| | 02:32 | these it should take me to that product page.
| | 02:36 | And once I get to that product page I can
see all of the information about that robot,
| | 02:40 | and I could also add it to the cart or
checkout using PayPal, purchase the item.
| | 02:47 | And I can also email it to a friend, you'll
see at the bottom if there are any related
| | 02:50 | products, they show up here, and so you can
actually see that our store is really coming
| | 02:55 | together, now that we have figured out how to
actually display our products and let people
| | 02:59 | interact with them.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Working with themes| 00:00 | Chances are you might not be happy with the design
that comes out of the box here with Magento Go.
| | 00:06 | And lucky for you there are several options available
to you inside of Magento Go to actually change that.
| | 00:12 | And so let's explore the Themes Directory
that we have available to us inside of Magento
| | 00:17 | Go, I am going to go back into my dashboard
here and if you go down to the Design tab
| | 00:21 | and choose Themes Editor that will
actually launch up the themes directory.
| | 00:27 | And when you first get to this, you're
going to see several different themes.
| | 00:29 | But what you might not realize is that
there's actually over 30 of these available to you
| | 00:33 | and you can page through them by
clicking this little icon here.
| | 00:36 | So if you like some of these you can browse
through these, or switch to the next one, and
| | 00:42 | keep going all the way through.
| | 00:44 | All types of different designs, catering to
all different types of stores. So you just
| | 00:49 | browse through here until you
find one that you would like.
| | 00:53 | Once you get to that, if you would like to
preview a theme, you just find one that you
| | 00:57 | like, so for instance let's browse back--saw
one that I liked, I believe it was on page 3.
| | 01:05 | So let's check out this one
right down here at the bottom.
| | 01:07 | If I want preview that I click Preview, and it
will show me what my store would look like
| | 01:12 | with this layout.
| | 01:13 | So if I don't like this one I can just
click Quit Preview and it takes me back out.
| | 01:17 | If I want to preview another one I just
find it and preview it, it launches it up.
| | 01:22 | And I kind of like that one, so if I wanted
to I could go back in, I could Quit Preview
| | 01:27 | now and I could just click on that and
that would make that my new active theme.
| | 01:31 | I would then go through the same process I
went through when I first set up my theme
| | 01:35 | to give it a name and then make any
alterations to it that I wanted to.
| | 01:39 | But it's pretty easy to find a theme in this directory
and then preview it and also apply it to your site.
| | 01:46 | So again you just navigate to this
area, find the themes, preview them.
| | 01:51 | If you like what you see inside of the preview,
then you can quit the preview, go back in
| | 01:55 | and click on it and apply that new theme going
forward on your site to make it look just like that.
| | 02:01 | And if you really want to get into it you
can actually customize these with HTML and
| | 02:05 | CSS to make them look even
more custom to your needs.
| | 02:09 | Now if you're not familiar with HTML and CSS
you can always hire a web developer or you
| | 02:13 | can simply browse some of the HTML and CSS
courses that are available to you in the online
| | 02:17 | training library here at lynda.com.
| | 02:19 | Look for authors like James Williamson, he has
several on HTML and CSS, and also Ray Villalobos
| | 02:25 | has some great titles on creating
things with HTML and CSS as well.
| | 02:29 | So check out both of those authors James
Williamson and Ray Villalobos for some great courses
| | 02:33 | on how to customize with HTML
and CSS a little bit further.
| | 02:37 | Otherwise, you'll just be stuck with these
default layouts which are perfectly fine and
| | 02:41 | can be customized using your own images,
and they're really slick as well.
| | 02:45 | So remember, the next time you want to change up
the look and feel of your site, just navigate
| | 02:48 | to the Design tab, find the Themes Editor
and then come right in and start picking away.

| Using a custom domain name| 00:00 | Having your own online store is great and having
one that you've gotten for free is even better.
| | 00:05 | However, you may want to actually add a level
of customization to this that makes it a little
| | 00:10 | bit more personalized to you.
| | 00:12 | Because with the free account here at
Magento Go you do get a free online store but you
| | 00:15 | don't get your own custom URL.
| | 00:19 | Your URL will actually be
something.gostore.com.
| | 00:24 | And while that's okay, most people are going to want
to have their business name .com or their name .com.
| | 00:30 | And so I would recommend actually doing that
before you even get started, go through and
| | 00:35 | get your own custom domain name
that way it's all ready to go.
| | 00:38 | Once you have your store pretty much built
up and you're ready to actually link that
| | 00:41 | domain to your store, this is how you do it.
| | 00:45 | You log into your My Account screen, you can
get there by going to My Account and then
| | 00:49 | clicking on your account name and it
should take you to this screen here.
| | 00:53 | Once you're on this screen, you then need to go
down to the Custom URL section and click Add.
| | 00:59 | Now if you're not sure exactly what this means,
you can come right over here to Custom URL
| | 01:03 | and click on that and it will explain to you
that a domain name is an Internet address
| | 01:07 | that makes it easier for
people to find your store.
| | 01:10 | It's also a tool for branding and an
affordable domain name can be purchased from numerous
| | 01:14 | domain registrars and
Internet hosting companies.
| | 01:17 | I'm sure you've heard of Go Daddy or even
something like hover.com or various different domain
| | 01:23 | registrars that are out there.
| | 01:24 | I actually recommend hover.com
because it's so easy and so quick.
| | 01:29 | So if you try something like hover.com go
find your domain name and then register that,
| | 01:33 | then you will be able to use
that domain here on Magento Go.
| | 01:37 | In order to do that what you'll need to do
is read up about it, and so go to the Custom
| | 01:42 | URL section here and then
click on the Knowledge Base link.
| | 01:44 | When you click on the Knowledge Base
link it will take you to this page here.
| | 01:48 | And so it will tell you all about
setting up your Custom URL for your domain.
| | 01:53 | Basically there are two parts here, step one
you go into the Magento dashboard like so,
| | 01:57 | you click Add, and then you simply type out the
domain name that you want, so like mydomain.com
| | 02:04 | and then you'll click Save.
| | 02:06 | Once you click Save, that's all
there is to do on the Magento Go side.
| | 02:10 | However now you need to log into the back
end of your domain registrar and configure
| | 02:15 | the DNS settings to point to
the following IP address.
| | 02:20 | And you can click on this question mark to
see exactly what that means and it tells you
| | 02:23 | that you must configure your DNS settings
to point the Magento Go, because basically
| | 02:26 | you have to tell your original website provider,
wherever this domain was purchased, Go Daddy,
| | 02:32 | hover.com, wherever, you have to tell that
URL, hey every time someone types you in,
| | 02:37 | I want you to automatically
point to this Magento Go store.
| | 02:41 | And you do that for something called an A
record in your DNS configuration, and it has
| | 02:45 | to point to the IP address
that they give you here.
| | 02:48 | If you don't know how to do that you can go
back to the Knowledge Base article and they
| | 02:51 | walk you through this step by step as
if you were doing it on godaddy.com.
| | 02:57 | Now you don't necessarily have to do it on
Go Daddy, you can do it on hover.com or any
| | 03:01 | number of other places, but
this idea remains the same.
| | 03:04 | You need to find a place where you can go
in and edit the DNS settings, you then do
| | 03:08 | need to add something called an A record to
this, and the A record needs to point to this
| | 03:12 | IP address, and once you do that
everything should be ready to go.
| | 03:17 | The final step in this is you
need to activate your new domain.
| | 03:21 | And so basically what you do here is you go
into the Admin panel and that's the Admin
| | 03:25 | panel of your store.
| | 03:27 | So I'll go back in here
and click Manage my Store.
| | 03:30 | Once you're inside of this you need to go down the
System and you need to go down to Configuration.
| | 03:35 | Once the Configuration screen has been
loaded go over here to the left and click on Web
| | 03:39 | and inside of the Web options you'll notice you
have URL Options, Active Domain and Default Pages.
| | 03:49 | And so basically here you can say, hey I want
to switch this over to my domain.com, meaning
| | 03:54 | every time somebody accesses this,
the active domain is my domain.com.
| | 03:59 | Or you can set it back to this if the URL
happens to not be working or whatever it might be.
| | 04:03 | But once you've set that over,
then you're ready to go.
| | 04:06 | You click Save Config and
everything should be okay.
| | 04:10 | Again, refer back to the Knowledge Base, that's
going to be your best source because they're
| | 04:14 | going to update this with any changes they
make going forward and keeping this up-to-date
| | 04:18 | is very important obviously so they're going
to do it, and you can see step-by-step how
| | 04:22 | to do exactly what we just talked about so
that you can use your own custom domain name
| | 04:27 | on your Magento Go store.

5. Managing Your StoreProcessing orders| 00:00 | In addition to being able to take orders online
you can also take orders offline as well and
| | 00:05 | then process them using the Magento Go system.
| | 00:08 | So if you had like a call-in center where
people can call in to place orders, or if you
| | 00:12 | have a brick and mortar store that someone
calls into you and says hey I want this that
| | 00:16 | I saw online or something like that, and they
want to just have you do the ordering for them.
| | 00:20 | In any case you'll need to service
your customers in any way possible.
| | 00:24 | You can actually process those orders
directly from Magento Go and that's what I am going
| | 00:27 | to show you how to do in this movie.
| | 00:30 | So the first thing you need to do is locate
the Sales option in your navigation of your
| | 00:34 | Magento Store dashboard
and then go down to Orders.
| | 00:38 | Once you reach the ordering screen you'll
be able to see any pending orders that you
| | 00:41 | have. Currently I don't have any, but I can
create a new order by clicking right here.
| | 00:46 | Once I'm taken to the Create New Order
screen, I am then able to select a customer.
| | 00:50 | If this customer has shopped with me before,
theoretically they are in my customer database.
| | 00:55 | If they are not in my customer database I can
create a new customer by clicking right there.
| | 01:01 | Once I have clicked that, it takes me to the
create new order for our new customer screen,
| | 01:05 | and I can then select what group they are a part of,
I am just going to say they are General group.
| | 01:09 | I am going to add an email address here
and then I'll fill out their information.
| | 01:16 | I can choose to save this in my address book.
| | 01:19 | If the shipping address and billing address
are different you can fill that out here or
| | 01:22 | you can simply say same as billing, and that will go
ahead and populate all of that information for you.
| | 01:28 | No payment information is required when
you're creating this order, simply because maybe
| | 01:31 | they've already paid you
over the phone or whatnot.
| | 01:34 | You could also get Shipping Method quotes, if
you have this hooked into a shipping provider,
| | 01:38 | if not you don't have to do that.
| | 01:40 | And then towards the top you can
also add a product to this as well.
| | 01:44 | So let's go ahead and add a product, and let's
say that they bought the vintage yellow robot
| | 01:48 | toy, so we've added that.
| | 01:51 | And I'll click Add Selected Product(s) to
Order, it takes a minute to process, so now
| | 01:56 | you can see there is order total right there.
We can apply coupon or gift card codes if
| | 02:01 | they had one, and down towards the bottom we
get their subtotal, their tax and all of that.
| | 02:08 | Once we're finished with all of this we can
hit Submit Order and that will complete the
| | 02:11 | ordering process. There will also be an order
confirmation sent to them and that way you
| | 02:15 | can keep track of this order, no matter where
it came from inside of your Magento Go system.
| | 02:21 | So now if I hit Submit Order it may warn me
that shipping methods need to be applied.
| | 02:26 | No shipping is available because I
haven't hooked this into any shipping yet.
| | 02:29 | But if this were there I could pick the
shipping method, then submit the order, everything
| | 02:33 | would go through and you would see that pop
up in your Pending Orders list, where you
| | 02:36 | could then ship it out using all of the
different methods that are available to you inside of
| | 02:41 | the Magento Go dashboard.

| Managing your customer database| 00:00 | As you start to receive orders you may find
a need to start to manage or work with your
| | 00:05 | customer database.
| | 00:06 | In any case you have the ability to take your
customers that are signing up for your site
| | 00:10 | and export them out as a CSV, and then use
that in other applications, and you can also
| | 00:14 | add new customers to this
database at any given time as well.
| | 00:18 | In order to do that you need to navigate to
the Customers navigation icon here and choose
| | 00:22 | Manage Customers.
| | 00:25 | Once you get into the Manage Customer screen
you'll see your existing customers down here
| | 00:28 | at the bottom, and you can edit any one of
those at any time by clicking on them.
| | 00:32 | So for instance if I want to edit Kirk Werner
here, I'll just click on that and that will
| | 00:37 | take me in here. I can see all of the
different information about this individual.
| | 00:41 | I can go to his Account Information.
| | 00:43 | I can make any necessary
changes that I need to.
| | 00:45 | I can also go into his
Addresses and I can add a new address.
| | 00:49 | And I could say that he lives at this
address here and fill out all of his information.
| | 00:57 | I can add that as default billing and
shipping address and then I can save the customer.
| | 01:04 | Once I save that, you'll notice all that
information is now populated inside of Kirk's customer
| | 01:08 | information right there, and so I can make
that change for anybody here inside of this.
| | 01:13 | I can also add new customers by clicking Add
New Customer, and once I do that I can then
| | 01:18 | fill out this information. So I'll just add a
new customer here, and we'll set the gender,
| | 01:26 | you can choose to send them a welcome email
if you wish, and the password here, we will
| | 01:30 | just give them a password. You can also send
an auto-generated password if you want to.
| | 01:36 | Sending an auto-generated password sends
them an email with an auto-generated password.
| | 01:40 | It'll be the much more secure than what you
come up with here probably, so I'll recommend
| | 01:43 | doing that, but for now I'll
just set this up like so.
| | 01:46 | I can then go into their Addresses and I
can add a new address for this person.
| | 01:50 | If I click New Address it takes me to
the screen here, I can fill this out.
| | 01:58 | Once I get all that information done, I'll
check to make sure it's accurate and then
| | 02:00 | save the customer, and there you
see Doug appears right there.
| | 02:04 | And if I wanted to export this out as a CSV
list or an Excel XML document, I could choose
| | 02:11 | either one of those right
there and choose Export.
| | 02:14 | Once I do that I get to download it, just
like you see there and I can then load that
| | 02:18 | into an Excel spreadsheet or some sort of
billing software, or whatever it is that I
| | 02:21 | might need to keep track of all these
customers with, perhaps an email list that I wanted
| | 02:26 | to maintain somewhere else
like MailChimp or something.
| | 02:29 | As your customer base continues to grow,
this is the screen where you'll come to manage
| | 02:33 | all of those people, and if you
get orders from external sources,
| | 02:36 | you can always come in and add a new customer here,
or if you get business leads at a conference
| | 02:41 | or something like that,
| | 02:41 | you could come in, load them in your customer
database, and then use that to email them and
| | 02:45 | send them blasts and stuff like that.
| | 02:48 | So the Customer Management screen inside the
Magento goes actually very well done and very
| | 02:52 | powerful, and I recommend that you check it
out and learn each individual nuance in here,
| | 02:56 | so that you know how to effectively
work with your customer database as well.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Putting a site in maintenance mode| 00:00 | From time to time you may need to perform
maintenance on your website, whether that's
| | 00:04 | updating the content, adding new products
or even changing the theme or updating some
| | 00:08 | of the CSS or HTML
settings inside of your theme.
| | 00:12 | When you're doing things like this it's best
to do what's called Maintenance Mode on your
| | 00:16 | site and what that does is basically put your
site in a state of suspension so that no one
| | 00:21 | actually sees it while you're working on it.
| | 00:24 | And so in order to put your site into maintenance
mode, what you'll do is navigate your Dashboard,
| | 00:28 | which where I am at here, then you can go to
System and navigate down to Configuration.
| | 00:34 | Once you get into the Configuration screen,
you'll notice right here under General there
| | 00:37 | is a Maintenance Mode tab and when you click on that,
you can open up the Maintenance Mode options.
| | 00:42 | So do you Enable Maintenance Mode? Yes.
| | 00:44 | If so, which Page you want this to go to? So
if I wanted Maintenance Mode for instance,
| | 00:49 | I might create a page for Maintenance Mode,
so would go to CMS > Pages > Manage Content
| | 00:54 | and I would go Create a Page.
| | 00:56 | If you'd like more information about creating
pages you can go back to Chapter 4 of this
| | 00:59 | course and check out the movie on creating
pages, but you'd just pick the page that you
| | 01:04 | want here, so let just say I wanted to go
to the Home page, I could just select Home
| | 01:09 | page from this list and I could also give a
Whitelist of specified IP addresses that
| | 01:15 | are unaffected by this.
| | 01:17 | My IP address for instance, I would want to
Whitelist that so that I could see the store
| | 01:21 | as I'm building it, and then you'd click Save
Config, and basically what would happen is
| | 01:27 | while the site is in Maintenance Mode, no
one would be able to access it unless they're
| | 01:31 | on this Whitelist. They would just be
redirected to whatever page you specify here.
| | 01:37 | Once you're finished making your updates to
this site, you would come back to the same
| | 01:41 | place, set this to No, and then choose Save
Config. That way, once you've saved that, the
| | 01:48 | website is back to functioning normally and
when people try to access it, they won't be
| | 01:52 | restricted to just that page anymore.
| | 01:55 | Put your site into Maintenance Mode when you're
making big behind-the-scenes changes, either
| | 01:59 | refreshing your inventory, adding new products,
changing the theme or whatever it is that
| | 02:03 | you might be doing. Maintenance Mode is a
great way to keep your site online while still
| | 02:08 | hiding what's going on behind the scenes.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Managing users and permissions| 00:00 | Chances are you're not the only one that's
going to be managing this online store.
| | 00:04 | In fact, you've probably got a team of people
that are going to be helping you, either taking
| | 00:07 | orders, maintaining the site, updating
product information or whatever that might be.
| | 00:12 | And so you need to be able to give these people
access to this site, but you may want to limit
| | 00:16 | exactly what they're allow to do, based on the
certain roles that they play in your work environment.
| | 00:21 | In order to do that you'll need to
manage their roles and permissions.
| | 00:26 | In this movie I'm going to be exploring both
the System User's panel and also the Roles
| | 00:31 | in the Systems panel, so that you can see
how to setup new users and then how to give
| | 00:35 | them a new role as well.
| | 00:38 | So the first thing I'm going to do is create
some new roles, so I'm going to go down to
| | 00:41 | the System tab, and then go down to Permissions
and select Roles, and inside of the Role you'll
| | 00:47 | notice I have Administrators is the only thing
listed here by default. I'm going to New Role
| | 00:52 | and I'm just going to call this Product
Marketing, and I'll Save the Role, and then I'll go over
| | 00:59 | here to Role Resources, and let's see
exactly what they're allowed to do.
| | 01:05 | So I'm going to give them permission to edit
the Catalog. I may also give them control
| | 01:10 | over some of the Design aspects, and let's
say that we want to give them control over
| | 01:16 | the customers and of course promotions, since
they are the marketing people, and the newsletter.
| | 01:21 | Don't necessarily want them to have control
over all of the pages, but I may want to give
| | 01:26 | them the ability to save a revision to the
page, and let's see, I want them to have access
| | 01:30 | to all the reports.
| | 01:32 | I don't want to give them permission to alter
permissions, but I may want to give them some
| | 01:37 | of these other options through here.
| | 01:39 | So you just scroll through, find everything
you want them to be able to do, and then once
| | 01:43 | you have finished selecting all
of this, you click Save Role.
| | 01:48 | Now let's go back into the System section,
go to Permissions, and let's go back to the
| | 01:51 | Roles homepage, and you should see two of them
now: Administrators and Product Marketing.
| | 01:55 | Let's add one more new role and this one we're going
to call Graphic Designer and we'll save the role.
| | 02:03 | Go to the Role Resources and I'm just going
to go down into the Design, just give them
| | 02:09 | the ability to edit the design, and also the page
attributes, and it should be all they need access to.
| | 02:17 | So we'll save that role.
| | 02:20 | I'm going to create some users to fall under
these roles, so let's go to System, let's
| | 02:24 | go down to Permissions and let's go to Users.
| | 02:27 | Inside of the Users you'll see here that
there is me, the admin, and I need to create some
| | 02:31 | new users to go along with me.
| | 02:33 | User Name here, I'm just going to call this
dougw, Doug Winnie and his email address,
| | 02:42 | password and this account is active.
| | 02:45 | I can then go over to User Role and say that he is a
Product Marketing person and so I'll save the user.
| | 02:53 | Once I save that user, you should get a
notification saying the user has been saved, and then we
| | 02:58 | can go back and I have a new user right there.
| | 03:02 | I can add another user, so let's add this
in jfritz, so that's James Fritz, give him
| | 03:12 | a password, account is active.
| | 03:14 | User Role; I'm going to let Fritz be my Graphic
Designer and then I'm going to save the user.
| | 03:21 | Once I have saved that user I can go back, and so now I
have me, the owner. I'm the Manager of all things.
| | 03:26 | I have Fritz who is a Graphic Designer, and I
have Doug who is my Product Marketing person.
| | 03:32 | And so you can create as many users and as many
roles as you need to in order to effectively
| | 03:36 | manage your store, but I really suggest you
map out exactly what you think you're going
| | 03:40 | to need, what permissions each one of this
roles need to have, and then assign different
| | 03:45 | people to these roles, so that you can effectively
manage individual aspects of your store, without
| | 03:51 | you having to be the end-
all be-all for everything.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Managing store search| 00:00 | As you continue to refine your store and try
to make things easier for your customers to
| | 00:05 | find, it may be a good idea to tweak
something called your Search settings.
| | 00:09 | At face value, it maybe kind of hard to find
exactly where those are, so what you're going
| | 00:13 | to have to do is go to the System section, go
down to Configuration. Inside of Configuration
| | 00:19 | you're going to scroll down until you find
the Catalog section, and then you're going
| | 00:24 | to click on the word Catalog.
| | 00:26 | Once the Catalog section loads you can
scroll down and find Catalog Search.
| | 00:31 | This is where you can adjust the Search settings,
the way that people interact with your site.
| | 00:36 | So the Minimal Query Length, this refers to
the number of characters that need to be in
| | 00:41 | the search box before a search you perform.
| | 00:44 | You can also determine the Maximum Query Length
which determines the maximum number of characters
| | 00:49 | that are allowed inside of the search box.
| | 00:52 | You can expand this out so people can look
for longer descriptions or you can shorten
| | 00:56 | it up so that people can
only type one or two words.
| | 01:00 | It is totally up to you. I would actually
recommend increasing this, maybe to somewhere
| | 01:04 | like 140 characters just to give them the
ability to type in some sort of phrase.
| | 01:08 | Maybe they don't remember the product name
necessarily, but they remember something about
| | 01:12 | the description and they can type
that in and hopefully find it.
| | 01:15 | The Maximum Query Words Count; that's how
many words are allowed in this search query.
| | 01:21 | So you might want to change that a little
bit to correspond with how long you've made
| | 01:24 | the query length.
| | 01:25 | So maybe you want to up
that to maybe like 15 words.
| | 01:29 | Enable Search Suggestions; if it's set to Yes,
the search results list for a query that
| | 01:34 | returns no results, will display a message
that says did you mean and then something
| | 01:40 | followed after that.
| | 01:40 | So if you misspelled robots for instance and
someone typed down like roboots, they would
| | 01:46 | come back with a suggestion saying, oh did
you mean robots, and so it will try to help
| | 01:50 | the user if they do misspellings or if they come
close to a search term that's in your database.
| | 01:56 | You can also show the results
count for each suggestion.
| | 01:59 | For instance, if they give you a suggested
term like, did you mean robots, and then it
| | 02:02 | will say in parentheses how many results they
found for robots, or cars, or whatever it might be.
| | 02:10 | Enable Search Recommendations; basically what
this means is if this is set to Yes and there
| | 02:14 | are no results returned from the query terms
that are entered into the search box that
| | 02:18 | they will give you a list
of related search terms.
| | 02:21 | And so you can set this to Yes, which
displays the text related search terms followed by
| | 02:25 | a list of the recommended search terms
underneath it, or you can set it to No, which will not
| | 02:31 | enable search recommendations at all.
| | 02:34 | So you can take a look at these and adjust
them to your liking. It's going to be different
| | 02:37 | for every store and every person, but I think
for the most part as long as you keep this
| | 02:41 | within an adequate range so that people can
actually type things into your search box
| | 02:45 | and still find what they're looking
for, I think you're doing your job.
| | 02:49 | Once you have all of these set up the way
you like, go ahead and choose Save Config,
| | 02:53 | that's going to save all of this information
and then once people go to the front-end of
| | 02:57 | your website and search for something, all
of these new rules will apply going forward.
| | Collapse this transcript |
| Adding product ratings| 00:00 | One of most valuable things you can get from
your customers is feedback, and one of the
| | 00:04 | easiest ways to add a feedback experience
to your store is to manage something called
| | 00:10 | Product Ratings or Service Ratings.
| | 00:12 | And this is something that can range anywhere
from actually allowing someone to send you
| | 00:16 | an email with feedback or simply adding a
star-rating system to the products that you
| | 00:21 | sell in your store.
| | 00:22 | You've all seen that on stores like Amazon.com
and things like that, people give it x amount
| | 00:26 | of stars out of five and that determines a
lot of times who comes back to the store,
| | 00:31 | who buys what, and what products they buy.
| | 00:34 | And so in order to do that inside of Magento
Go, you just go to the Catalog section and
| | 00:38 | go down to Reviews and
Ratings and select Manage Ratings.
| | 00:42 | When you first get into this, you'll notice
that there are three available to you by default,
| | 00:46 | Price, Quality, and Value.
| | 00:48 | If you like these you can certainly keep them
in there, if you do not like these you can
| | 00:53 | simply remove them.
| | 00:54 | So like if I didn't like the Value rating, I
could come in here and I could just delete
| | 00:57 | the rating and hit OK, that removes it.
| | 01:01 | I can also remove let's say Quality,
remove that, and we'll leave the Price.
| | 01:08 | Let's Add a new rating to this as well and
so the Default Value for this, we're just
| | 01:12 | going to call it Customer Service.
| | 01:16 | And the Rating Visibility; we're
going to give it the Default Store View.
| | 01:20 | Once we do that we can choose Save Rating.
| | 01:25 | Once we've saved that rating you will see
that customer service is then added there,
| | 01:29 | and so that way when people are interacting
with a product whether they have purchased
| | 01:33 | it or they come back afterwards, and they're
signed in their account, they will actually
| | 01:37 | be able to rate from one to five stars, the
Customer Service and the Price of this item.
| | 01:42 | You can choose as many different rating types as
you want, you can change how they're displayed
| | 01:47 | in your store in any way you
want. That's totally up to you.
| | 01:49 | But again, managing the rating system is going
to be an essential part in getting feedback
| | 01:53 | from your customers and learning exactly what they
do and do not like about your store experience.
| | 02:01 | So my suggestion is to come up with a few
different pillars of information that you'd
| | 02:05 | like to get from people and then put those
in there as ratings that are available on
| | 02:09 | all of the product pages, whether it would
be price, shipping times, customer service,
| | 02:14 | whatever it might be that gives you information
on how you're doing and also gives prospective
| | 02:18 | customers information on how your store
interacts with its public and also how you respond to
| | 02:24 | those issues as well.

| Adding customer reviews| 00:00 | Occasionally customers will want to comment or
review the products that they have purchased from you.
| | 00:05 | These reviews can be both positive and
negative as you've seen on many sites before.
| | 00:10 | But the good thing about Magento Go is the fact that
you have the ability to moderate these reviews.
| | 00:15 | As they start to review products and their
experience with your store, you will start
| | 00:18 | to get these reviews inside
of your Magento Go dashboard.
| | 00:21 | In order to see these reviews you need to go
up here to the Catalog section and go down
| | 00:26 | to Reviews and Ratings and then choose Customer Reviews,
and then you can see all of the Pending Reviews.
| | 00:33 | Once you do that if there are any pending
reviews you'll see it listed here and you
| | 00:36 | can actually click on it to view that review.
| | 00:39 | They don't give a rating here necessarily
but they tell you what the product is, who
| | 00:42 | the person was that bought it, and the
nickname of that person which you can change.
| | 00:46 | You can also see the review that they wrote.
| | 00:49 | If you would like to save this review, just
go ahead and save it and it goes back out.
| | 00:55 | You can select the review here and then
choose to Delete it or Update the Status and then
| | 01:02 | change the status to Approved, and hit Submit.
| | 01:06 | Once you've approved it that is
now part of that product's review.
| | 01:10 | So if I go to my store homepage and I find
the blue robot, on the blue robot page you'll
| | 01:16 | see one review, and if I click on that, it
expands it out, and you'll see that at the bottom.
| | 01:22 | Here it is, best toy ever, everything
about it, and who posted it as well.
| | 01:27 | You can actually sort these reviews down here
at the bottom and you can write in reviews
| | 01:32 | as well if you're logged into the system.
| | 01:34 | This is a great place where you
could respond to this review.
| | 01:37 | So if they have posted something negative
maybe you could respond to that or if they
| | 01:39 | just posted something positive, you could say
thank you for choosing our site, or whatever
| | 01:44 | you might want to say.
| | 01:46 | And so the review system inside of Magento
Go is actually pretty good, and you can use
| | 01:50 | that to both moderate and work with the
different product reviews that people submit.
