Introduction
Welcome
00:04Hi there! I am Justin Seeley and I am a staff author here at lynda.com.
00:07I'd like to welcome you to Creating Your First Online Store with Magento Go.
00:11Hopefully, after this course, you'll have all of the tools and skills you need to get your
00:15products on the web and in front of the world.
00:17I'll begin this course by showing you how to set up your online store by using the Magento Go Dashboard.
00:22I'll also show you how to add products to your store, adjust their product attributes
00:27and sort them into categories.
00:28I'll also walk you through setting up your checkout options, adjusting your tax settings,
00:33and also how to deal with various shipping methods as well.
00:36Along the way I'll be showing you how to hook your store into various payment gateways like
00:40PayPal, Authorize.Net and Google Checkout.

Using the exercise files
00:00If you're a premium member of the lynda.com online training library, you have access to
00:04an assets folder that I'll be using throughout this course.
00:07This folder contains various product images that I'll be using for the items in my online store.
00:11While I am including these for reference purposes, you'll probably want to use your own product
00:15shots for your online store, that way the products you create actually correspond to
00:18your business and what you're selling.
00:20If you're not a premium member of the online training library, that's fine.
00:23You can still follow along using your own images with no problem at all.

1. Getting Started
What is Magento Go?
00:00If you're new to ecommerce or the Magento platform in general, you may be wondering
00:04exactly what is Magento Go.
00:06In short, Magento Go is an online hosted ecommerce platform for entrepreneurs and small businesses
00:14that allows you to create and build an online store to sell your products quickly and easily.
00:19The best thing about Magento Go is its point and click nature, which allows you to build
00:24your store without having to worry about things like software, servers or even website code.
00:29Basically, you're getting all of the power of the regular Magento platform in a sleek
00:34easy-to-use online interface where all of the technical stuff is handled for you.
00:39So whether you're just getting started with a new business venture, or even if you're
00:43an established business looking to branch out into the world of online commerce, Magento
00:47Go offers a unique way to get yourself online and selling quickly without the worry or hassle
00:53of technical jargon that you might not otherwise understand.

Creating a new store
00:00To get started using Magento Go, simply go to the website address go.magento.com.
00:07Once you've reached this site, you're going to notice that it's taking you here to the
00:09homepage, and in order to get started using the Magento Go system you simply find the
00:14little blue cloud over here on the right that says Start Your Free Trial.
00:18Click right here and it takes you to this page to sign up for a free 30-day trial.
00:23You'll notice here that it tells you there is no credit card required. It is a fully
00:26functional trial, that means you'll get to use every single piece of the Magento Go platform
00:30including 200 MB of storage, up to a 100 SKUs and 4 GB of bandwidth, which should be more
00:37than enough to get you started for the first 30 days.
00:40Let's scroll down here and you can see that they give you some options down here at the
00:43bottom for after your free trial has expired, it tells you, you can easily upgrade to any
00:46of the regular plans.
00:48So let's go over those first to let you know exactly what you'll be dealing with once your trial expires.
00:54So the very beginning option is called Get Going and that's $15 a month. That's going
00:58to give you a 100 SKUs, it's going to give you 3 Admin accounts, that means you're going
01:02to have 3 admins; people who are able to log in and manage your store.
01:07You only have support for one language so your store has to be in one single language.
01:11You will get email and chat support here.
01:14You'll get 200 MB of storage; you'll get 4 GB of bandwidth, so basically this is continuing
01:18with the same basic stuff that you get in the free trial in this $15 a month option
01:23here on the left.
01:25The second option entitled Going Places gives you for $25 a month, you get 500 SKUs, you
01:31get 10 Admin accounts, still only one language, you do get the email and chat support, you
01:36get 500 MB of storage and you get 8 GB of bandwidth.
01:42So essentially for $10 more, you are getting 5 times the number of SKUs, you're getting
01:47pretty much double the storage capacity and double the bandwidth as well, so not too bad of a jump there.
01:52The next one is sort of a bigger jump. It goes up $40 to $65 a month.
01:58You get however a big bump in everything, you get a 1000 SKUs, you get 20 Admin accounts,
02:04you get three languages so you could put your store in English, Spanish and Portuguese, for instance.
02:08You get email, chat, and phone support as well.
02:12You also get 800 MB of storage and then you get 16 GB of bandwidth to be used up over
02:19the course of the month as well, and that is for $65 a month.
02:23So once you get more established, you get a lot more product, you get a lot more interaction
02:27from your audience, you might want to think about going to these bigger plans.
02:32The biggest one that they offer is called Go Anywhere, it's a $125 a month.
02:35You get 10,000 SKU numbers, you get 30 Admin accounts, still three languages; you do get
02:41email, chat, and phone support, 24/7 phone support, and you get 5 GB of storage.
02:48You also get 32 GB of bandwidth for that as well, so that's a $125 a month.
02:54So my recommendation personally is to start as small as you can, especially if you're
02:57not yet an established business, I would go ahead and start with the Get Going plan just
03:02to get yourself started, get people aware. Hey, I am online, I am selling things online.
03:06Once you've reached the saturation point for that plan, meaning you are approaching your
03:10bandwidth limit, or your storage limit, or even your SKU limit, I would just graduate up to the next plan.
03:16Once you reach the limit there, graduate up to the next plan, and so forth, and so on.
03:21Once you get to a point where you need 10,000 SKUs or 30 Admin accounts and stuff like that,
03:27I don't think you're ever going to need more than that.
03:29If you do ever need more than that, it might be time to think about something other than
03:33a hosted platform; something that's self maintained on your own server.
03:38So by the time you get to this last one over here, you'll be ready to hire a developer
03:41and build your own store probably.
03:44But you can also see down here at the bottom that you have access to some frequently asked
03:47questions, like you know, can I try before I buy? Can I convert my trial to a regular
03:51plan? All of that stuff is outlined for you down here at the bottom.
03:56And if you scroll back up to the top you can actually start the process of setting up your new account.
04:00So the first thing you need to do is tell Magento Go where you are.
04:04So currently I'm in the United States, so I am going to hit Next.
04:07It's also going to ask me to choose my store name.
04:09I am going to be working with a lot of vintage toys, so I'm going to type out bigrobottoys,
04:16and I am going to hit Let's Go.
04:20Notice it tells me here I am 30 seconds away from my new store.
04:22That's because as soon as you complete this form, your online store is pretty much rock 'n rolling.
04:26So I am going to fill out the information that's it's asking me for here, my first name,
04:29my last name, the contact email.
04:33They'll also need a phone number, the username and a password.
04:39You'll notice underneath here that it gives you the option to install sample data, and
04:44what this is going to do is populate your store with some sample data to give you some
04:47information and just some examples of how to use it.
04:51I am going to go ahead and say no. I don't want the sample data installed in my store,
04:55because I want to start this with my own stuff. I don't have to worry about any of this.
04:59You can also read the terms and conditions. it will launch in a little window like this.
05:03I would suggest that you read through this, that way you can see all of the rules and
05:06regulations about selling on Magento Go and things like that.
05:09Once you've read through all of this stuff, I want you to go ahead and click, I have read
05:13and agree to the terms and conditions, and then click Let's Go.
05:18Once that is all processed, you'll be taken to this screen where it says, congratulations!
05:22You've successfully signed up for Magento Go and we are setting up your store.
05:26It tells you that they will email you with your instructions for logging in and so now
05:31you can go here and you can click manage your account,
05:35and once you click manage your account, that should take you over to the account management
05:39dashboard section.
05:41And once that jumps over into the account management dashboard, you can see here that
05:44they tell you your store name, so bigrobottoys.
05:46You've also got your free trial where you can upgrade to a paid plan, tells you your status which is Active.
05:52It also tell you when your trial ends; mine is going to end on October the 4th.
05:57It's also got my site address, so I've got bigrobottoys.gostore.com.
06:02At any time I want I can change that, and I can click change to change the address, and
06:07then save it or cancel.
06:09I can also add a custom URL. I'll talk about custom URLs in its own separate movie a little bit later on.
06:15And then you can manage your store, view your store and also cancel your plan.
06:19Now I'll be going through the dashboard here in depth a little bit later on, but for now
06:24we now have an online presence on the Magento Go platform and we're ready to start building
06:28our store and selling products.

Touring the My Account dashboard
00:00Once you've created your first online store with Magento Go, you have access to something
00:05called the My Account dashboard and you can access that any time while you're logged in
00:09the Magento Go system by clicking My Account and it will take you to this screen here.
00:13Now the My Magento Go Stores will show you all of the different stores that you have.
00:16Currently I only have one called bigrobottoys.
00:18It gives you all of the information about that particular store right there. You can
00:22also manage and view the store using those big orange buttons.
00:26To the left-hand side, you have a navigation area where you can click to go to things like
00:29Account Settings.
00:31Once you get into the Account Settings, you will be taken here where you can edit account
00:34information, stuff like your name, your email address; your username.
00:38You can also change what industry you're in, so in this case, I'm going to put mine as Other,
00:42because I am selling toys.
00:44My job title is going to be CEO/President.
00:47You can also enter an information about support, your company name, so in this case I'll add Big Robot Toys.
00:55My Company primarily is a merchant who sells online.
00:58My Role is Business/Sales/ Marketing/Merchandising.
01:02You can add your address to this, telephone number, all of this information can be placed
01:06into this section and you can save that.
01:10So it may come up and tell you that some of these areas are required fields and you can
01:14just fill out all of that information like you see here, and then click Save, and all of
01:18that information has been saved as your company account information.
01:24Once that saves, it refreshes the page and tells you the account information has been saved.
01:28You can also go over here and you can change your password, you can edit your avatar, you
01:32can edit your signature, edit your profile, edit your email preferences, email subscriptions
01:37and activate Magento Connect.
01:40You can also go in here to view your billing history.
01:43The billing history is going to give you a detailed break down of all of the billing
01:47that's been happening with your account.
01:49And so right now it tells you that each time you're billed, an invoice is going to be emailed
01:52to whatever email address you have shown.
01:55And it will also say to view a printable receipt please click on the appropriate invoice below.
01:59Well currently I don't have any invoices because I am using the free trial.
02:02But if my free trial has expired and I had upped to one of the specific plans that they
02:07offer, that would be listed here.
02:09So if I had the $15 a month plan, I would see an invoice for that.
02:13I can also go over here to Support, and Support gives me different things about, like the
02:18Magento Go system status, so it's telling me whether or not the Magento Go System is up and running.
02:23I can also see any support tickets that I've used, that I've sent in, like if something
02:28is not working in my store, I can post a new ticket. Hopefully they'll take care of that pretty quickly.
02:32And you can also go into the Solutions Library, and the Solutions Library provides answers
02:35to what they call the most common issues on Magento Go.
02:39You can browse for a solution of your problem based on the most popular solutions or search
02:43for a solution in the Solutions Library as well.
02:46Solutions, they say are a quick way to get answers to common problems without having
02:50to engage with the Magento support team.
02:52So if you find something that you think might be in this database, just go to Search and
02:56Browse right there and you can try to find the answer to whatever issue you might be having.
03:02And different issues will pop up at different times, and so you can check that.
03:05You can also go right here to the Live Help button to get Live Help from one of their representatives.
03:12Directly underneath that you'll also see something for Developers and this is for some people
03:15who have a little bit more technical prowess or if you're working with a developer and
03:19you want them to hook into your Magento Go store to implement it onto a separate website,
03:24or use some of the other APIs that might be available there, you can see all the information here.
03:28You can manage the extensions that you are currently using or add a new one.
03:31Again, this is only for a developer, so if you're not a skilled developer, I would just
03:35leave this alone.
03:36If you've hired a developer to work with you in your store, this is a great place for them
03:39to go and explore some of that.
03:41And then finally, you also have a link inside of this area to the community area.
03:46So the community area is going to take you to this page where a modal box will pop up
03:50and say, I would like to customize your experience, tell us a little bit about yourself so that
03:54we can provide you with the most relevant information on the Magento website.
03:58My company primarily does what? So I'm a merchant who sells online.
04:02My Role is what? I am a Business/sales/ marketing/merchandising professional.
04:05I am going to update that.
04:08It's currently telling me that I don't have any subscriptions and that's fine. I can go
04:11over here and I can go to the Bulletin Board, post new messages, I can edit my message folders,
04:16I can find buddies to connect with and all that kind of stuff.
04:19It's just a really interesting way to interact with other people here, post messages, share
04:23ideas and things like that.
04:26Now at anytime if you want to get back to the regular account dashboard, you can just
04:29click My Account up at the top, and then click your name, and that takes you back to the account dashboard.
04:37You also have the ability to utilize this navigation bar that goes across the top where
04:41you can go to Products, Consulting, Training, Resources.
04:47You can download things, go and read customer success stories and showcases, view information
04:52about the partners program, learn more about the Magento company, and also visit their blog.
04:58The account dashboard is sort of like the jumping off point for your account.
05:02It's going to take you to all of the different areas of interest of the Magento Go site.
05:06It also allows you to get into your store and manage your store, as well as view your
05:10store to see exactly what it looks like and how your products are shaping up.
05:13So it's a great bird's eye view of what's going on and gives you access to all of the
05:17most important parts of your site as well.

Accessing support
00:00One of the most important things with any online platform is going to be the support
00:04system, and the Magento Go system actually has a very nice support area.
00:09You can access the support by going to the My Account Dashboard, which is where I am
00:13at now and clicking on the Support button over here on the left.
00:17Once you get into the support system it's going to give you an overview of the Magento
00:21Go system, like you see here, and you can also view your latest tickets and also go
00:25into the Solutions Library.
00:26I am going to open up the Solutions Library in its own tab for a moment, and I am also
00:31going to show you how to work with something called Live Help in just a minute as well.
00:35Let's go over to the Solutions Library first, and so you can see here they have all of these
00:39different solutions that you can browse.
00:41So how to set up your EE Instance into Developer Mode. How is Magento Go SEO optimized? Can
00:48I use my own SSL on Magento Go? Is Magento Go available in Europe?
00:53You can click this and it will take you to that solution and it will tell you, yes, Magento
00:56Go can work anywhere in the world.
00:58All of this information is maintained by Magento and they give you answers to the most common
01:04questions that they are fielding on a day-to-day basis.
01:09So for instance, you could see something like Magento Go: How does it compare to Community Edition?
01:13And so if you're wondering the differences between the Magento Community Edition and
01:17the Magento Go Platform, you can see exactly what those differences are here.
01:20So for instance, Magento Go has the same features as Community Edition, plus some features found
01:25in Magento Enterprise.
01:26Some of the features that are available with Magento Go and not Magento Community are banners,
01:32CMS, gift cards, store credit, Admin logging and assisted shopping.
01:36So if you're interested in that, you might want to explore that a little bit more.
01:40Anytime you're working on your store, you find something that just doesn't makes sense,
01:43try browsing this thing called the Solutions Library. You can even type in a question here and search.
01:48If someone else has asked that question before, that will show up and you can view the answer.
01:53Now let's close this up and let's go back into this other page here and let's say that
01:57you couldn't find what you're looking for in the Solutions area.
02:00Let's click on Live Help for a moment and you can see here that it brings up this section
02:05where you can send in an email with a subject and a question, or you can chat with them.
02:11So let's type in a subject, how do I change themes? I want to change the theme of my store.
02:19How do I do that? And I'll say chat with us.
02:23That's going to launch this little chat window which I can move to the middle.
02:26And someone is actually on the other line with me right now and they are going to answer
02:31this question for me hopefully.
02:34I can also type more messages down here at the bottom, I can hit enter or return in order
02:38to submit that question again, and the person will then respond to me with any response
02:43that they might have.
02:45Now this could take some time, because obviously they don't have a single help representative
02:49for each and every customer that they have, so there is no telling what position I'm in,
02:54in their queue to answer these questions.
02:56So in this case I'll just say, thank you very much. I have answered my own question.
03:04I'll submit that and you can see my question goes through, and I can close that back up.
03:09If you wanted to you could also have sent that as an email and then they would email
03:12you back to the email address that you have provided there, and they would answer your
03:17question that way.
03:17So if you don't want to wait on them to do Live Help, you can just submit an email then
03:21go about your business doing whatever you need to do and hopefully they will email you
03:24back with a response in a decent amount of time.

2. Setting Up Your Store
Setting up your store options
00:00Before you get started adding products your Magento Go store, it's a good idea that actually
00:04set up some of the internal components of the store, so that it's ready for you when
00:08you start adding products, and you can just go ahead and take it online.
00:12In order to do that you will need to go into the Store Management Console and you can do
00:15that by logging into your My Account dashboard and then clicking the big orange button that
00:19says Manage Store.
00:21Once you do that, that should launch your store. You will have enter in your username and password
00:25once again to get to this screen, but once you get to this screen, you will then be able
00:29to access something called Start My Store.
00:32And this may be displayed on your screen by default, and you may see some check marks,
00:36and you may not see some check marks.
00:38Basically, what this is is a small checklist of things that you need to complete before
00:42you make your store active.
00:44You also notice at the top, it tells you this store is under construction and any orders
00:48place will not be fulfilled.
00:49That means if anybody buys anything, right now nothing is going to be happen, because
00:52you haven't published your store.
00:54The first thing you need to is set your language preference.
00:56And you can do that by setting your language here, and then choosing a language from this list.
01:01In this case, I'm in the United States, so I'll choose English (United States), click Submit.
01:05Anytime you complete one of these tasks, it will automatically show a check mark next
01:09to it indicating you have completed it.
01:11Your contact information, that's the store contact information, that's your name, your
01:14address, and your phone number for your business.
01:17This is going to help customers interact with your brand, give them a point of contact and
01:21a way to get in touch with you.
01:22It's also a way of them to the find the email address from which you'll be sending them
01:25newsletters, that way they can add that to their whitelist, and get in touch with you
01:29and stay in contact with you at all times.
01:31You can also set your design elements, and that's the first thing we're going dive into,
01:35and that's going to be selecting and customizing your design.
01:37Now I'm going to go in depth into theming and how to customize your theme a little bit later,
01:42but I want show you how to select a basic theme.
01:45So let's choose Select and Customize your Design, just hit Continue when this box pops
01:50up. It is just giving you heads up, letting you know that you can go in and change things
01:53via CSS if you wanted to.
01:56When you first come in here you will notice you have an active theme over here on the left.
01:59You can also choose from the available themes over here on the right.
02:03And when you select a theme, you can just click on it and it will automatically become your theme.
02:07So for instance, if I wanted to select this T-shop right here, I'll just click that and
02:12it automatically takes me to a new theme based on T-shop.
02:16I can name this BigRobotTheme.
02:20Theme Description; a theme for my store and If I wanted to choose a thumbnail for that
02:26to differentiate it from something else, I can do that, but I'm not going to.
02:29For now, I'm just going to click Save. This is going to save my theme,
02:35and then over to the left you'll notice I have Design Setting, CSS Editor, Java Script,
02:40and Catalog Images.
02:41In this case, I'm going to leave those alone for now, because we are going to dive deep
02:44into those a little bit later.
02:46And so now, I'm just going to save it.
02:49Once I do that it should return me back out.
02:51And you'll notice over here that I have my current theme still, but at the bottom I now
02:54have now my BigRobotTheme, and I can apply that just by clicking Apply.
03:00Basically, what you're doing here is creating a theme based off of one of their themes that
03:05they are providing to you, and you're not overriding their theme.
03:09They are actually allowing you to take a base set of styles and ideas and apply them to
03:14it's own new blank canvas which you can then change and alter in any way without actually
03:18affecting the original theme.
03:20So once you have that applied, you can see BigRobotTheme, ready to go.
03:25And so now, I'm going to go back to my back to my Dashboard.
03:26I have set up my first basic theme and anytime I want to go see this, I can go in to a new
03:31tab and I can visit my website address bigrobottoys. gostorego.com, and once I do that, you'll be able to see
03:38the store and right now it is pretty blank, but you can see that I have is theme applied
03:43to it. It's very modern looking, kind of sci-fi-ish.
03:46So it's really fitting the look and feel of my robot toys.
03:48And at the bottom it's got about us where you can see all this information, customer
03:52service, site map, all these things are automatically entered for you.
03:56And so at anytime you want to preview your site just remember what your address is; in
04:00this case bigrobottoys.gostorego.com.
04:03You can access that in your browser and be able to preview it at any given time.
04:07I'll close that up and go back into My Dashboard.
04:10And I'll go back upto Start My Store and let's go back to Design and let's choose Set Your
04:15Logo. Inside of this set logo section you will notice you have three options to set up here.
04:21The first one is your store logo, the second one is the logo for your emails and the third
04:25one in something called a favicon.
04:28The store logo is something that's going to be displayed in the top portion of whatever
04:32theme you've chosen.
04:34So for instance, in that theme that we were just looking at where it said Modern Style,
04:38that's where this logo is going to appear.
04:41The size of this logo is going to vary from theme to theme, so my suggestion to you is
04:46find the theme that works for you, and then locate the image and try to gauge exactly
04:51how big that it is, and you can then produce an image that fits that particular size.
04:57You can also select a logo for your store emails. This is going to be something that
05:01appears in the header of the emails that are sent to your clients, whether that be purchase
05:05confirmation or a newsletter you send out, or whatever it might be. This logo will always be at the top.
05:11This could be anything from 500 pixels to 650 pixels wide, generally 650 is about as
05:16wide as I would go.
05:17It could be as tall as you wanted to be any where from say one to 300 pixels probably would work.
05:22And then finally, you can add in something called the favicon.
05:25And the favicon, the easiest way to describe it is to show it to you.
05:28Up here in my tabs, in my web browser, you see this little logo right here; that is a favicon.
05:33It's the little bookmark icon that's associated with the websites that you visit.
05:37The favicon needs to be something that is distinguishable to your website, but also
05:41really easy to read and understand what it means.
05:44So in this case, this M stands for Magento. It's the Magento logo and that corresponds
05:49to of course the Magento brand.
05:50It's very simple, it's very small.
05:53And you need to make sure also that this is a complete square.
05:56So it needs to be like 50x50 pixels or 20x20 pixels.
06:00It can be in a multitude of formats, including ICO, PNG, GIF, JPEG, APNG or SVG, any of those
06:07formats will be fine.
06:09You just need to make sure again that it is perfectly square.
06:12For your logos, for your emails and store website, those can be in either JPEG, GIF or PNG format.
06:18Let's go and set mine up now.
06:19I'll choose my store logo first. I'll go here.
06:22And I have store_logo.png loaded in here.
06:26Then for my emails I also have a email_logo.jpg, bring that in.
06:32And then finally, I have my favicon.png and I'll load that in.
06:38Then I'm going to click Submit.
06:40Those are now being uploaded to my store and put in place, and so once those have finished,
06:46you'll notice a check mark appears.
06:47If I collapse this for a second, you'll notice that it tells me the email logo was successfully saved,
06:52favicon successfully saved, store logo successfully saved.
06:56If I go now and visit my store, you will see my logo is here and my favicon with little
07:02robot logo is right there.
07:05If I were to send an email, the email would pop up with my logo at the top as well.
07:10So like I said, this is going to change depending on what theme you're using at any given time.
07:14So if you happen to change themes, be sure to check out your logo, make sure that it
07:18still fits within the chosen window that it has given you, and if not, you might want
07:22to back to your designer. If you're designing it yourself, go back and rework that logo
07:26to fit a little bit better.
07:28Some logos work better than others. In this case, I just sort of put together some elements
07:33of the existing logo that I had to make it stretch a little bit more horizontally.
07:37The logo for this company is actually more of a vertical logo.
07:40So I just took in and split apart to make it go more horizontal.
07:44And you may have to do that with yours or simply find a theme or customize the theme
07:48in such a way that it fits your logo a little bit better.
07:51So I'll close this up and go back into my Dashboard now.
07:54And I'll go back upto to Start My Store.
07:57You can also visit the place where you select your plan, this is where you set the plan
08:01that you might have.
08:03Going forward right now we are just using the free trial, and you can see here it says
08:05as your business grows, Magento can grow with you.
08:08That way you can switch from the small plan all the way up to the big enterprise plan.
08:12So that's totally up to you.
08:14The Product section; this is something we're going to cover in the very next movie.
08:17How to start creating your first products, and so you'll just come back to here, go to
08:20Start My Store, select Products and then you can create your own.
08:23Payments; we are going cover these in depth as well.
08:26You can set up things like PayPal Express or other payment options like Google Checkout
08:30and Authorize.net.
08:31You can also set your tax calculations from here as well.
08:35You can go and setup your shipping options and also you can launch your store.
08:40So this is where you go at the very end when you are ready to just take everything online and go forward.
08:46And so hopefully, by now you have a better understanding of how to set up the basics
08:50of your store going forward, including your contact information, as well as your language
08:55support, and setting up your store logos.
08:58From there, it's now time to start adding products.

Setting up new products
00:00Once you are ready to start adding products to your Magento Store, there are a couple
00:03of ways that you can go about that.
00:04I'm currently logged into my My Account dashboard and I am going to click Manage Store; that
00:09should jump me into my store.
00:11If it asks you to log in, just go ahead and enter in your username and password again,
00:14and then it should take you here, and from here, there are two ways that you can start
00:18setting up new products; you can go to Start My Store and then choose Products and click
00:22Create New Products, or you can collapse that and you can go down to Catalog and select
00:27Manage Products, and get to that same screen as well.
00:30I am just going to go to Start My Store, go to Products and click Create.
00:33It's going to give me a little thing here telling me that they have flexibly when creating
00:38products and you can set up custom options and all that good stuff.
00:41Just go ahead and click Continue from here.
00:44From here, you will be taken to the New Product screen where you can choose an Attribute Set.
00:48We haven't discussed those yet, so I am just going to leave it on Default.
00:51You can also Use Complex Product types, in this case, we are not going to do that.
00:53So we'll just click Continue and once we click Continue, that should take me to the New Product
00:58page and on the New Product page, I need to pay attention to anything that is labeled
01:03with a little red asterisk or a star.
01:06This is going to give me an indication that this is a required field, something I have to fill out.
01:11You also have the ability to turn on something called WYSIWYG Editor.
01:15When you turn on the WYSIWYG Editor, it takes you to something that looks very much like
01:18Microsoft Word or even the WordPress Dashboard if you are familiar with the WordPress CMS
01:23system, and this is going to give you the ability to really edit and fine-tune your
01:28descriptions in the way everything looks inside of your products.
01:32So you can do things like bold, italicize and underline things, you can change the Alignment,
01:36set up different styles, you can change paragraph options, you can set the different font, the
01:41font size. This is a very powerful tool that I really suggest you take the time to learn
01:46exactly what it does and use it to its full potential.
01:49In this case, I am going to just close this though and go back and start here at the very top.
01:54We'll keep it simple for now.
01:55So I am going to call this product Vintage Yellow Robot.
02:01I'm also going to add a description for this.
02:06So my description is "This yellow vintage robot has been completely restored and is now available in our store.
02:11This would be an awesome addition to anyone's collection and we hope you enjoy it!"
02:15This could be anything that you want to say about this item. You could say how much it
02:20costs, how much it weighs, anything you want to say in this box is up to you.
02:24You'll also need to provide a short description, so for this one, I am just going to type out
02:28Vintage yellow robot, now available for your collection.
02:32The next thing that is required here for me is the SKU number or S-K-U number.
02:37This could be a unique number that identifies this product.
02:40It's normally used to identify different variations of the same product.
02:44So if you had this same thing in multiple sizes or in multiple colors for instance,
02:49you might give each one a different SKU number.
02:51In this case, I am just going to add in a SKU number something like this.
02:55This could be something that you generate yourself, or that someone in your product team
02:58generates, or it could just be a random number that you generate as well.
03:01The weight is also required.
03:03This is for shipping requirements. They want to know the actual mass of the object for
03:06shipping calculation purposes, so 1.5 pounds.
03:10And you also need to determine when this product will be selected as new in your store or when
03:16it will show as new.
03:18Basically what this means is how long will we display this as a "new item" in your store?
03:23I am going to select the date as this Friday, is when it's going to start, and I want it
03:27to remain a new item until the end of the month, so I am just going to set up those, just like that.
03:32The status, you have the ability to choose between Enabled and Disabled.
03:36If the product is Enabled, it is available in your store, able to be purchased by anybody,
03:40and if it's Disabled that means it's currently either out of stock or just not available anymore.
03:45So you choose between those two; right now I am going to Enable it.
03:48You can also set a URL Key, it's not required.
03:50If you do not enter anything in here, Magento Go will automatically add URL Key for you,
03:55this is your store/ whatever you want to call this.
03:59Visibility; how is this item searchable? How are people going to find it? Is it not visible
04:04at all? Is this something that's only available in the catalog? Is this something that's available
04:09through search? Is it available through search and catalog?
04:11If you choose Search and Catalog that means it's going to be the easiest to find because
04:15people will not only be able to see it in your catalog, they will also be able to search for it.
04:19So if someone came and searched for yellow robot toys, theoretically they would find this.
04:24Allowing Gift Messages; if you want someone to be able to purchase this as a gift for
04:28someone else and then send that person a corresponding message along with it, you can choose to do this.
04:33You will notice it's grayed out by default, that's because it's currently using the configuration
04:36settings of my store, meaning that somewhere in my store, I have a setting that says no,
04:41don't allow gift messaging.
04:43You can override that by unchecking the box on a case-by-case basis and changing that to Yes.
04:48You can also select whether or not this shows up in a news feed, in this case, I am going
04:52to say No, and you can also set a country of manufacture if you know what that is. If
04:57not, you can simply leave that blank.
04:59Once you have finished entering in this information, you can click Save and Continue Editing and
05:04it will take you to the very next screen saving that and taking you here.
05:09The very next screen is the pricing screen.
05:11This is where you set up all the pricing information.
05:12So in this case, I am going to type out 19.95, that's how much it's going to cost.
05:17I can also run a special price.
05:19So if I wanted to run the introductory special of 14.95 on this, I could.
05:23And then I'll set how long this special runs.
05:25So I am going to do it the same way I did the New Product Listing.
05:28It's going to start this Friday. It's going to end at the end of the month.
05:32So from this date until this date, it will be 14.95, from that day forward, it will be 19.95.
05:39You can set up your cost if you want to.
05:41You don't have to do that if you don't really know it, or if you don't have a cost that you
05:45wish to enter, you don't have to.
05:47You can also tier the pricing.
05:49So you can do things like General public, Wholesalers, Retailers, do different price
05:53points for each one.
05:55You don't have to do that. Again, I'll just click the X to get out.
05:58It takes me back out.
05:59You can set the Tax Class, this is required.
06:01I am going to say this is a taxable good.
06:04Is the product available for purchase with Google Checkout? We are going to cover Google
06:08Checkout in our future movie, so I'll just leave that as Yes for now.
06:12You can also Apply MAP pricing, display the actual price, set a manufacturer's suggested
06:16retail price and allow displaying the unit's product price.
06:20This is all again totally up to you and it's going to be on a product-by-product basis most likely.
06:26From here, you can Save and Continue Editing that will save all of the information you've
06:30placed here, and you can go in and change some of the other information.
06:35The Meta Information, that's going to be things like a title, keywords and description. This is
06:38all for SEO purposes; things that will make this easier to find.
06:42So the Meta Title, Vintage Yellow Robot Toy. Keywords; yellow, robot, toys, vintage, old,
06:54antique. You enter in as many of these as you want.
06:57A Meta Description; vintage, toy, robot. You can type about as much as you want, you have
07:02a maximum of 255 characters here.
07:05So again, it might be a good idea to consult someone on the SEO side to get some better
07:10keywords and descriptions for your products.
07:12It's going to make them both easier to find for others and also going to put you higher
07:16in the page rank when people search for things as well.
07:20Now once you have this, go ahead and click Save and Continue Editing.
07:25Then we'll move on to one of the most important sections and that is the images section.
07:28This is where you can actually add in images for the products that you're creating.
07:34So in the Images section here, browse to find the files that you're looking for. In this
07:38case, on my Desktop > Assets > Robots, I'll go into the 800 pixels folder.
07:43I am going to select this orange_yellow_ robot and also the yellow_robot from the bottom
07:49and open those up.
07:51And now if I want to upload those files, I'll click Upload.
07:54Once those have loaded in, you'll see a preview of them here, and I can label them, so I can
07:59say Front and I can say Side. There we go, Save and Continue Editing.
08:07Once it saves, you can roll over to see the preview.
08:09You can also set which one of these is the base image, so for instance, if I want this
08:13to be the base image, if I want this to also be the small image and I want this to be the
08:18thumbnail, I set all of those here.
08:20You can also choose to exclude these if you wish and you can remove them as well.
08:25But from here I just want this one to be the main image that represents this product, and
08:29so I'll click Save and Continue Editing there.
08:31That saves that and it should reload up and once it reloads, you should be able to see
08:36that all of my options have saved, so we are ready to go there.
08:40You can also go to Design section where you can choose a custom theme for this particular product.
08:47So in this case, I can go down and pick any one of these themes that I want, but I'm just
08:52going to leave this alone, because I don't want to change to a custom theme necessarily.
08:55If you want to do that and then you can say how long that custom theme is active for,
08:59you can do that as well.
09:00I'm not going to set up any of these, but you could on a case-by-case basis.
09:05You can also set the shipping options here.
09:09You can choose your inventory.
09:11Whether or not you want to manage stock from here, you can choose Yes, and then set up quantities, and so forth.
09:17In this case, I'll manage the stock. I'll say quantity, I have 1.
09:21Quantity for item's status to become out of stock; well, when I hit 0, I want it to be out of stock.
09:25Minimum quantity allowed in shopping cart, only 1.
09:29Maximum quantity allowed in shopping cart; now in this case, it's going in and saying 10,000,
09:33but I'm going to set this to 1. I only have 1 of them.
09:38Quantity uses decimals, no. Backorders; no backorders in this case. Notify for quantity
09:43below this, yes. Enable quantity increments, no. Stock availability, currently it is in stock.
09:51So I'll Save and Continue Editing there.
09:53Once I do that, all the information should be saved, I can go now into my Categories
09:57section on the left and we are going to cover categories in their own movie later, but for
10:01now I am just going to stick it in the Default category, and I'll Save and Continue Editing.
10:08Towards the bottom, you have the ability to set up things like related products.
10:11We don't have any other products in our inventory right now, but if I did, I could click Related
10:15Products and I could set up what products are related to this one, that way when people
10:19are viewing this, they might see some recommendations of other things that they might need.
10:24You can also set what are called Up-sells here. We don't currently have anything, so
10:28like if you had something that had an up- sell attached to it, like you know, buy three,
10:31get one free or whatever it might be, you could set up things like that.
10:35You can also do Cross-sells.
10:37You can set up Product Reviews, you can set up Product Tags, we'll talk about that in
10:41the later movie as well.
10:43You can also set up Customers Tagged Products and Custom Options as well, we don't currently
10:48have any of those either.
10:49We have pretty much got all the basic stuff we need for this product.
10:53So if I click Save, it should save all of this information and return me back out to
10:58my main dashboard, and you'll notice here that I have a new vintage robot.
11:04If I want to go back in and check that again, I can click it and it takes me right back
11:08to this. I can change any of this information that I want and go from there.
11:13It should be noted that this will not show up in your store until your store has been published.
11:17So you don't have to worry about that.
11:20I can go back to my dashboard and anytime I need to get back to see those products,
11:24I can go to Catalog > Manage Products and that takes me here to this and I can set up
11:31my products there.
11:32So it is enabled, it is available in the catalog as well as in search. It's going to be 19.95.
11:37There is my SKU; it's using the default attribute set.
11:40It's a simple product, there is the title, and again, clicking on it takes me to edit
11:44that product at any time I wish.
11:47So hopefully by now, you have a better understanding of how to add in new products into your Magento
11:52Go system, and how to alter things like the product images, descriptions and even adding
11:58things like pricing and search capabilities.
Collapse this transcript
Managing product categories
00:00In addition to setting product attributes, you can also define things called the Product
00:04Categories which allow you to organize products into logical groups, so your customers can
00:09easily find them in your store.
00:11In order to go into the Catalog Categories sections, just simply find the Catalog navigation
00:16item, choose Manage Categories and it should take you to this page right here.
00:21When you first get in here, you have the ability to choose either Add Root Category or Add Subcategory.
00:25If you choose Add Root Category, it will show you information like this, and basically a
00:29Root Category is an overarching theme for a category. So for instance, I'm going to be
00:34doing toys in mine, so I'm going to name this Toys.
00:38I am going to say that it is active, and then I also have the ability to add in several
00:43other attributes here for this category.
00:46So let's start off by talking about the URL Key.
00:48The URL Key is a field designed to improve your search engine optimization ranking.
00:53By default, the URL Key is automatically generated based on the category names, so in this case,
00:57it would be toys, or you could overwrite this field with better SEO management if you wanted to.
01:03Other fields for better SEO management include the Page Title down here at the bottom, also
01:09the Description, the Meta Keywords and the Meta Description.
01:14These are all put in there for SEO, search engine optimization. It is my recommendation
01:18that you work with somebody who has significant SEO experience, like an online marketer, to
01:23help you develop great descriptions and keywords for your products, making them easier for people
01:28to find and thus increasing your page rank as well.
01:32The only things that are required here are your name, whether or not it's active or not,
01:36and if you include it in the Navigational Menu, which I suggest you do.
01:41Once you have that set up, just choose Save Category and so once you do that, you now
01:46have a category called Toys, in this case, and I can also start to add subcategories to this as well.
01:52So if I click Add Subcategory that takes me here, and that allows me to create a subcategory,
01:58and I can then name it and give descriptions just like I could anything else, and so in
02:03this case, I am going to call this Robots. I am going to say yes it is active, and it
02:09is available in the navigation, and I'll save the category.
02:12Once I've saved the category, you will see that Toys now has Robots underneath it, and
02:18I'll click back on Toys to make that my active category, and then I'll add another subcategory
02:22here, and I'll call this one Cars, yes it is active, and yes it is in the menu, and I'll
02:31click Save Category.
02:33And so now I have Toys as the overarching category, I have Robots and Cars underneath
02:38there as well, and I could add as many subcategories as I wanted to.
02:43I can then go in and select Category Products for any one of these.
02:48I can also just go back out to my Catalog and choose Manage Products, find any of the
02:55products that I have, in this case, my Vintage Yellow Robot, I'll click on that, and I'll
02:59go down to Categories, I'll take it out of the Default Category, put it in Toys and put
03:04it in Robots, and then I'll choose Save.
03:08Once I do that, it takes me back out here and if I go into my Categories section again,
03:15it takes me back, and you can see that I now have one item in the Toys category and one
03:21item in the Robots category.
03:23So it's always going to show you a running tally of how many products of this particular
03:28category or subcategory that you have.
03:31That's how you quickly add new categories to your system and organize your products
03:36into individual groups, making them easier for people to find them and then hopefully,
03:40purchase them as well.

Setting checkout options
00:00One of the more important things to set up inside of your new online store are the checkout
00:04options, because this is what is going to control the overall experience of the checkout
00:09process for your prospective customers.
00:11In order to do that, what you need to do is find the System link and then go down to the
00:16Configuration tab, and once you are inside of the Configuration tab, that should take
00:21you to a section where you're able to find General Options, Catalog Options, Customer
00:26Options and the most important here, Sales Options.
00:30And so if you go down into the Sales Options and choose Checkout, this will enable you
00:35to work with the Checkout Options.
00:38Checkout Options is first tab here and I'll click on that.
00:41Do you enable Onepage Checkout? That means everything is contained on one page. They
00:45don't have to go anywhere else; everything happens on one page.
00:49I recommend that you leave that turned to Yes, because of the simple fact that everybody
00:53wants to just have a single streamlined experience, so it's really good to have this Enable Onepage
00:59Checkout checked.
01:00Do you allow Guest Checkout? Checking Yes here allows guest to complete the checkout
01:05process without actually creating an account on the system.
01:09No, requires that the people create an account with your store before completing the checkout
01:13process, again, this is up to you if you want to require people to sign up for an account
01:19or if you don't, totally up to you.
01:21In this case I would allow Guest Checkout just because a lot of people don't like to
01:24create more accounts when they have to online, so allowing Guest Checkout really enables
01:28them to swiftly buy what they need, get in and get out.
01:32Do you want to Enable Terms and Conditions? If you want to display the Terms and Conditions
01:36during checkout, then set this to Yes, if not, then you can set it to No.
01:42If you don't have terms and conditions, my suggestion would be to consult with a lawyer
01:46or a legal professional to draw up some terms and conditions, especially if you are selling
01:50online services, that way people know exactly what they're getting and how they can use them, et cetera.
01:55If you want to enable those once you have them written, come back in and choose Yes.
01:59For now I don't have any terms and conditions, so I am just going to say No.
02:03Once I have this done, I am going to expand out the second column here, and the Shopping
02:07Cart; after adding a product, do you want to redirect this person to the Shopping Cart?
02:12That means once I've added a product to my Shopping Cart, do I redirect them to the Shopping
02:17Cart area? If you want to do yes, choose Yes; if no, choose No, and they will remain on the
02:22page that they are on.
02:23I am going to choose yes, because I want them to go to their cart.
02:27Do you want to show the Product Thumbnail Itself or do you want to show a Parent Product
02:31Thumbnail? So if you have more than one product, do you want to show the overarching image
02:35or just the individual one per product? Configurable Product Image, again, you can choose this.
02:40Again, totally up to you, what you want to choose here.
02:43And basically, this is just controlling what thumbnail image displays in the cart while
02:48the person is viewing their cart.
02:50So let's open up the My Cart Link.
02:52Do you display the Cart Summary, along with item quantities or do you display the number
02:56of items in the cart? So in this case I am going to choose to do number of items in the cart.
03:02The Shopping Cart Sidebar, do you want to display the Shopping Cart Sidebar? That means in the
03:06sidebar of your website is there a thing that shows what is currently in the cart, and Maximum
03:10Display of Recently Added Items; that means if someone is shopping on my website and they
03:15have picked out 10 or 15 items, how many do you want them to actually show?
03:20Showing a large amount can really take up some valuable real estate in that sidebar,
03:24so 3 seems about right for me. I might even reduce that to 2.
03:28And then finally, Payment Failed Emails.
03:30Basically, the Payment Failed Emails section allows you to configure the email template
03:35to be used, the recipient as well as the sender of the email notification messages that are
03:40sent whenever a customer's transaction fails. You can say the Payment Failed Email Receiver
03:47that is who, who receives this email, you can choose that.
03:51The Payment Failed Email Sender that means who is this coming from.
03:55You can also choose the Payment Failed Template and this one is just the default template,
03:59you can set those up in your email section.
04:02Send Payment Failed Copy To, whom, if you would like to send a copy of a failed transaction
04:07to someone, for instance, if this is coming to a general sales email, you may want to
04:11have this forwarded to your personal email, so that you can get this right away and you
04:15can deal with it.
04:17Send Payment Email Copy Method of what, do you want it to be blind carbon copy or do
04:22you want it as a separate email?
04:23In most cases, I would probably choose Separate Email, that way if you happen to accidentally
04:28reply to it or something, it doesn't go back to anybody that you didn't wanted to.
04:32And so once you have all of these options set up, your Checkout Options are now completely
04:36set and you can choose Save Config and that will save these configurations and now the
04:42checkout process is pretty much locked in for your store.

Adjusting tax settings
00:00One setting that you are going to want to make sure that you get absolutely correct
00:03inside of your Magento Go store, before you take the store live is your tax settings, and
00:07the tax settings can be adjusted by going to Start My Store, going down to Payments
00:12and then setting Set Tax Calculations.
00:15Once you go into Set Tax Calculations, you will be brought to this box here where it
00:18says that in order to get your store ready to accept orders, you need to set up tax rates
00:23that are appropriate for your business.
00:25It also explains that tax rates can be set down to a ZIP or postal code level to adjust
00:30for variants in different areas of tax rates for localized taxes.
00:34Once you have created your tax rates, then you have to specify something called a tax
00:38rule which defines what rates to use and when to use them.
00:42You can also create multiple tax rates and multiple tax rules that can be applied to
00:46different types of products or even different customers.
00:48So if you have like a retail set of customers, a wholesale set of customers, or a set of customers
00:53who buy things at cost, different things like that can adjust the tax rate.
00:57And then when you are ready to get started, it tells you need to set up at least one tax
01:00rate and at least one tax rule.
01:02If you need more information on this, there is a Knowledge Base article that you can click
01:07on, so if I clicked here and open this in a new tab, it takes you to this page to show
01:12you all of the information about tax rates.
01:15So this is everything you probably ever want to know about setting up tax calculations.
01:19Now it's not the most exciting thing in the world, but it is very important, especially
01:22now that online commerce is becoming more of a vetted area. People are looking at this
01:27a little bit closer especially with the taxes and things online.
01:30So you need to make sure that you get this stuff correct.
01:33So let's click Continue right now and that's going to take me into the Manage Tax Rates
01:37section, and so I already have two in here by default. You may or may not see these yourself.
01:42To add a new tax rate, you just simply click Add New Tax Rate right here.
01:47Then you give it a Tax Identifier.
01:48So for instance, let's say I am from Kentucky, I can set up KY State Tax, Country is United
01:54States, the state of course is Kentucky.
01:58I'm not going to filter by ZIP or postal code, but I am going to give it a tax rate percentage,
02:02and so the tax rate in Kentucky is around 6% and I would actually go and find the exact
02:07percentage but I am pretty sure it's around 6. Click Save Rate.
02:12Once I have saved that rate, you will see it pops up here, Kentucky State Tax, United
02:15States, Kentucky and 6% and now what I need to do is set up a tax rule for this.
02:23So in order to do that, I need to go to the Sales tab, I need to go down to Tax and I
02:27need to go to Manage Tax Rules.
02:30So once I am inside of the Manage Tax Rules section, I need to add a new tax rule.
02:35And I'll give it a name, so in this case, I'll just call this KY State, I want it to
02:39apply to Retail Customers, on all Taxable Goods and I want to apply the Kentucky State
02:46Tax Rule. You can also prioritize and sort your tax rules if you want to, I am not going
02:50to do that this time though.
02:52Once I have all this set up, I'll just choose Save Rule, and I now have that rule in place,
02:58so anytime someone comes to this site and purchases something from Kentucky, it will
03:02charge them 6% sales tax, same way with if I lived in California, New York, wherever
03:08it might be, I could set that up so that it would charge the appropriate tax amount for
03:12the goods that I am selling in my store.
03:14This is something that's very important and also something you want to do your homework
03:17on to make sure you get the right tax rates for where you live, and make sure that you
03:20adjust for any localized differences between ZIP or postal codes as well, because Magento
03:26Go gives you the power to do just that and gives you a finite level of control over all
03:30of these individual tax settings, which is really going to help your business in the long run.
03:35

Working with shipping methods
00:00Once you have nailed down the checkout process for your store here inside of Magento Go,
00:04you also need to set up something called shipping methods.
00:08And the shipping method refers to how are you going to get the products that people
00:11buy to the customers?
00:14In order to set this up, you are going to go to the System section and you're going
00:17to go down to Configuration again.
00:20Once you've reached the Configuration section, scroll down and on the left-hand side, find
00:24the link that says Shipping Methods.
00:26Once you get to the Shipping Methods home screen, this is going to show you all of the
00:30different options that you have available to you.
00:33And so the first one is just going to be the easiest one and that's Flat Rate.
00:37And so Flat Rate means you offer the same shipping method for everything and it's the
00:42same price across the board.
00:44If you want to do this, that's fine, it is the easiest way to do it and you can just
00:48set up all of these different options based on this.
00:50The first thing you need to do though is set it to yes, title it whatever you want to call
00:54it. Method Name, whatever you want to call that, set it per item, per order or none.
01:00In this case, I am going to do Per Order and then you could do something like $5 per order,
01:05whatever it might be.
01:06This is going to get a little dicey though, depending on what you're selling and it's
01:10not actually recommended to do this as well.
01:12Now if you are selling the same thing over and over and over, let's say you're selling
01:16just one single product that weighs the same across the board, there is very little variation
01:21and you already know the weight and how much it costs to ship, flat rate shipping might
01:24be the answer for you.
01:26If you're selling lots of products that vary in weight and size and things like that, this
01:29is probably not the option for you, so set this to No, and then collapse that back up.
01:35And you can go in and you can change some of these others.
01:38Table Rates Shipping, lets you calculate shipping rates based on the combination of several conditions.
01:43This can be based on weight versus destination, price versus destination or number of items
01:48versus destinations.
01:49So you can come in here and you can enable that and then you can change the condition
01:53here and then make all of these different edits accordingly.
01:56You can also offer free shipping.
01:59If you want to offer free shipping, that's something that's pretty popular here on the
02:02web today, a lot of companies offering free shipping.
02:05And then you have several different versions of carriers that you are able to use as well.
02:11UPS stands for United Parcel Service, and it offers domestic and international shipping services.
02:16You can also use USPS, which is the United States Postal Service.
02:20It's the independent postal service of the US government.
02:23You also have FedEx (Deprecated) which is sort of out of date at this time, and most
02:27of the time people are going to use FedEx.
02:29So FedEx here, you can enable this and then enter in your information.
02:33In most cases with these, what you're going to have to do is set up an account with these carriers.
02:39So you need to go to UPS and get an account, FedEx and get an account, or DHL and get an
02:43account, because you're going to have to enter in those credentials somewhere along the line
02:48inside of these carrier dropdowns.
02:52So if you're using UPS, FedEx, DHL, whatever it might be, go set up an account because
02:58you are going to need stuff like your access ID and your password as well as your account
03:01number in order to make this work.
03:04If you're just going to be sending it on your own, using the United States Postal Service,
03:09you can do that, you don't necessarily have to have a username or ID.
03:13If you want to offer flat rate Shipping, again, no accounts or anything required for that,
03:17and certainly with free shipping there's nothing to worry about.
03:20Once you have finished with that, just go ahead and hit Save Configuration and that
03:24saves it and now your shipping methods are determined for each of your products that
03:28is a global setting that affects all of your orders and all of your stores.

Taking your store live
00:00Once you have got all of your store settings in place and you've got some products inside
00:03of your store, it's time to take your store live.
00:07Up until now, we've been working under the assumption that the store is not necessarily
00:10published yet, and you will notice that by seeing this across the top, the this store
00:14is under construction and any orders placed, will not be honored or fulfilled.
00:18In order to take this live, so that you can start taking orders and actually start making
00:23money, you need to go up to Start My Store, go down to Get Going and select Launch Your Store.
00:30Once you do that, you will be brought to this screen where it says you're almost there.
00:34We have one final reminder for you prior to launching your site.
00:37If you would like your customers to be able to complete the checkout process entirely
00:40from your own web address, for example, www.mystore.com, you'll need to go ahead and set up your own
00:47domain and custom SSL certificate.
00:49For more information on enabling that, you can view these two links which take you to those pages.
00:53I do cover setting up a custom domain in this course, so you might want to check out that movie as well.
00:59That's going to be in the Customizing Your Store chapter, a little bit later on.
01:03It tells you that when you're ready to launch your store and open for business, click the
01:06Go button at the bottom of the screen.
01:09This will then take your store live and allow you to be open for business.
01:13If you're not ready to do this yet, you can simply click Cancel and it will take you right back out.
01:19My recommendation is to go through all of these different steps one more time, check
01:24them out, make sure you have got everything set up the way you want, then go through your
01:28product listings again, make sure everything has been tweaked properly in there, make sure
01:31the images are okay, make sure the descriptions are in place, make sure all of the attributes
01:36are exactly the way you want them.
01:38And then once you're ready to launch your store, just come right back up to this little
01:41bar, click Start My Store > Get Going > Launch Your Store, and when you click the Go button,
01:48your store is now open for business and you're ready to start taking in some money.

3. Setting Up Payment Gateways
Exploring payment methods
00:00In order to start accepting payments inside of your Magento Go store, you'll need to set
00:04up and understand the payment methods that are available to you.
00:07In order to do that, let's go up to the Start My Store link here and go down
00:09to the payment options, and inside of Payments you'll notice you have three tabs that you can access.
00:14The first one is Setup PayPal Express Checkout, and PayPal Express Checkout basically means
00:19that users will be able to pay you directly using PayPal or via MasterCard, Visa, Discover
00:25or American Express.
00:28It'll tell you that when you receive your first PayPal payment they'll let you know
00:31and guide you through the simple account setup so you can enjoy the benefits of Express Checkout,
00:35which basically means as soon as someone buys something from your store, you will see an
00:39email come to the Inbox of the email address that you choose while you were setting up
00:44your account here, and you will be able to then be guided through the process of receiving said payment.
00:50You can also enter in your PayPal payment email address right here.
00:55If this is different from the email address in which you signed up for Magento Go with
00:59then simply take this email address, delete it, and enter in a new email address in that
01:03field and click Update.
01:05It also tells you that for your convenience they've automatically enabled PayPal Express Checkout.
01:10If this is something you don't want, you don't want people to be allowed to pay you via PayPal,
01:14you want to use some other form of checkout system whether it be Authorize.Net or some
01:19other form of payment gateway, then you can disable PayPal Express Checkout by clicking
01:24right here, and it will automatically disable it, meaning it's no longer active and you'll
01:30see an Enable button right there.
01:31If you ever want to turn that back on you can simply Enable it and turn right back on.
01:36So from here I can click out, and when I go back to Start My Store and go down to Payments
01:40you'll notice that if I choose PayPal Express one more time, it is not enabled anymore and
01:45I can go back to set up anything else.
01:48I also have other payment options. If I click other payment options here, it'll tell you
01:53that there are a number of different payment options that they accept here with Magento
01:56Go and they also allow you to accept credit cards directly on your site.
02:02All of these options do require you to create an account with a so-called payment provider
02:06and then configure your store to work with that account.
02:10Now while I'll be going over all of the different payment gateways that are supported in another
02:14movie, but just know that there are several available to you including PayPal, Authorize.Net
02:19and several others that you can use to accept payments directly inside of your Magento Go store.
02:25From here you will simply go to Continue. Once you're inside of the next screen you
02:31will see all of the different payment methods that you're able to set up including PayPal,
02:36Sage Pay, Check/Money Order.
02:39There are all kinds of options available to you including an ever popular one Authorize.net.
02:43We'll be going through several of these individually and some upcoming movies so don't worry about
02:48that. I am going to cover PayPal as well as Authorize.net, and also Google Checkout as well.
02:55Once you've setup your payment gateway all you have to do is click Save Config and it
02:58will automatically save that and you can then begin accepting your payments directly on your website.

Understanding payment gateways
00:00In the previous movie, we talked about the various payment methods that are available
00:03to you inside of Magento Go.
00:06In addition to those payment methods, we also have payment gateways that we can tie them into.
00:11And so the payment gateways make it possible for you to accept credit payments directly
00:15in your store, and Magento Go does support a wide range of these payment gateways as
00:20well, and you can see them listed on this page here.
00:23You just go to go.magento.com/support/kb/entry/ name/understanding-payment-methods/.
00:32You can also access that from the knowledgebase, which is available at go.magento.com.
00:39And inside of this information here you are going to find all of the different payment
00:42gateways that are accepted, including ones that are worldwide, ones that are specific
00:46to North America, ones that are specific to Europe and ones that are Oceana as well.
00:52And you'll see that there are some pretty famous names on here like PayPal, Authorize.Net,
00:57CyberSource, First Data Global, PSI Gate, Braintree, Car Gate Plus, Payone, Sage Pay,
01:05and eWAY Direct, and so this actually tells you the countries in which they are accepted.
01:11You can click on the individual services to see something about them.
01:14So for instance, if I wanted some more information about PayPal, I can click on PayPal and that
01:18would take me to a page that describes PayPal itself, also how to gain access to PayPal,
01:24how to use Express Checkout, how to use some of their all-in-one solutions, et cetera.
01:28So if you're not really sold on one of these particular gateways,
01:31you can come here to this page and you can find out information about them, and then use
01:36that information to decide which one is best for you, and then when you go back into your
01:41System Configuration you can then set up whichever one you choose inside of your Payment Methods section.
01:47So you can set up PayPal, you could set up Authorize.Net fairly easily by simply clicking
01:52it and entering in all of the required information, and so on.
01:56Once you have read up on all of the different payment gateways that are available to you
01:59to process your electronic transactions here inside of Magento Go, pick out and that's
02:05going to be the one that you use throughout your entire site, and then once you have that
02:09account set up, come back into Magento Go, configure it up using the options inside of
02:13the System Configuration and you'll be well on your way to accepting payments for your
02:18merchandise, here inside of Magento Go.

Setting up PayPal payments
00:00One of the easiest ways to start accepting payments in your Magento Go store is to use PayPal.
00:06And Magento Go also supports something called PayPal Express Checkout which basically means
00:10people come to your site, they can pay using their PayPal account or a credit card, and
00:14they can simply just send you money into your PayPal account, and the best part about it
00:19is a PayPal account is completely free.
00:22In order to access that you are going to go into your Payment Methods section of your
00:26Configuration dashboard.
00:28In order to get there just go to System and then go down to Configuration.
00:33Once you're inside of the Configuration section, you want to scroll down into Sales and choose Payment Methods.
00:40Once you do that, it's going to take you to this screen and to set a PayPal Express Checkout
00:43is actually pretty easy, you just come right here and you can choose Configure, and once
00:48you're inside of the Configuration screen you can remove the email address that's there
00:52currently, because that's the email address you use to sign up for your Magento Go store originally.
00:58If this is not your PayPal email address then simply delete it.
01:01If you do not have a PayPal account yet, you can simply click here to create an account
01:07and it will take you to this page right here to set up PayPal Express Checkout.
01:11It tells you there are three steps, you sign-up for a PayPal business account, it takes between
01:14three to five minutes to do, then you confirm your email address which means PayPal will
01:19send you an email and you will have to confirm that this is your email address, and then
01:23you add the PayPal Payment button to your site, or simply authorize Magento Go to do that.
01:28So let's go ahead and let's sign- up for a PayPal account here.
01:33Once I do that it's going to take me to the Express Checkout creation screen and I'll
01:37just choose Create New Account. I'm in the United States, I am speaking English, so I'll
01:41just go ahead and create a new account.
01:43I first have to choose my business type.
01:45So in this case, I'm an individual, the email address that I want to use here, type in a
01:51password, then it's going to ask me a security question.
01:57Who is my favorite historical person? And let's go to question number two, who is your
02:02favorite author? And I'll enter in an author just like so.
02:06Now at the bottom you'll have to enter in this confirmation code, so that's just like
02:10so and we'll hit Continue.
02:13Once I do that it's going to take me to step two where I enter an information about myself.
02:17So my online business or service it's going to be Big Robot Toys and the date the business
02:23was established, website URL, this is optional.
02:28So since I don't have a website URL right now, I'm not going to enter that.
02:31Category; Toys and hobbies. Subcategory; Vintage and collectibles, Do you sell digital goods? No, I do not.
02:40What will your average monthly payment volume be? Now this is just an estimate so let's
02:44do between 5,000 to 25,000.
02:48What will your average transaction amount be? Probably less than $25, most of my stuff is about $20.
02:54What percentage of your annual revenue will come from online sales? Well, that depends
02:57if you have a brick and mortar store it might be less. If you have only an online store
03:01then it's probably higher than that. In this case, I'm pretty much 50-50, so I'll do 25% to 50%.
03:07Do you sell on eBay? Not currently.
03:10Your customer service email address, this is optional and if you click why it tells
03:14you that this is the email address that will appear on your customer's payment page as
03:17it gives them the opportunity to contact you if you have any questions about their order.
03:22So you can put in a email address here, you don't have to.
03:25Owner contact information and we can do phone number, city, state and zip, and we'll click
03:34Agree and Continue.
03:36Once we do that I have now signed up for a PayPal account, and once I do that I should
03:41get an email, and inside of that email, I can then activate my PayPal account.
03:47Once you have activated your PayPal account you'll get another email, telling you you've
03:50successfully set it up, and if you click on the PayPal logo on the PayPal side, it should
03:55take you to the PayPal homepage.
03:58I can log in and you can see now that everything is set up.
04:04So if I go back into my Configuration here, I'll just type in the email address that I
04:09used, I'll enable this solution, and I want to grant permission to Magento Go with PayPal.
04:16I'll click here, hit OK to the box that pops up, it's going to redirect me over to PayPal
04:21for just a moment.
04:23Once I get over there, it's going to ask me to log in again.
04:26So now you are going to agree to allow Magento Go to access this and process payments on your behalf.
04:32Once you agree to that you'll have to come down and enter in bank account information,
04:37or you can enter in your business credit card. You can skip this and add it later or you
04:42can click Continue.
04:44Once you do that everything should be all set up, and I'll go back to Magento Go, go to My Account.
04:52Once I'm inside my account, I'll go to manage my store, inside of my store I then go to
04:56System > Configuration, we'll scroll down here and we'll go down to Payment Methods,
05:06and inside of Payment Methods, I can go right here to PayPal Express Checkout, and if I
05:12go back to Configure you can see here that there is my Account, account status is Active.
05:17I can set up or change my site permissions with Paypal, but as of right now everything is good to go.
05:22So I can save that configuration and it will take me back to the dashboard.
05:27If you'd like more information about PayPal and how to use it effectively in your business,
05:32I would suggest checking out the PayPal Essential Training with Christopher Matthew Spencer
05:37which is available in the lynda.com online training library.
05:40There are some great stuff in here on setting up PayPal, using PayPal for business purposes
05:45and things like that.
05:46I walked you through the basics of creating an account and hooking it to Magento, but
05:50PayPal Essential Training is a great way to get some more information on how to use it
05:54and the ins and outs of actually putting money in, getting money out, et cetera.
05:59So hopefully by now, you have a better understanding of what PayPal is, how to set it up, and how
06:03to configure it with your Magento Go online store.

Setting up Authorize.Net payments
00:00Another popular payment gateway on the Internet today is something called Authorize.Net, and
00:06Authorize.Net allows you to accept payments online basically by utilizing their system
00:10much the same way you would something like PayPal.
00:13The difference between Authorize.Net and something like PayPal is the fact that Authorize.Net
00:17does not have any free options; you actually have to pay to use Authorize.Net.
00:22They do have some selling points, they're a little bit more scalable in some people's
00:26opinion. They do allow you to process credit cards and transactions without actually having
00:31to use something like a PayPal account for instance. The buyer does not have to have
00:35an Authorize.Net account to purchase from you.
00:38So in order to get an Authorize.Net account, just go to Authorize.Net and then click the
00:43big Sign Up Now button right here.
00:46Once you do that, you'll be taken through a three step process where you will enter in
00:49information about yourself and your company on the first part here.
00:53You will then be taken to create your login ID and password, and then finally, you will
00:57submit your application.
00:59You will need a lot of information when you're going through this process.
01:02The information you need is listed over here on the right.
01:05You will need your company information; that's the name, the address, the phone number, that kind of stuff.
01:09You will also need the account owner's information; name, address, and phone number.
01:13You will need bank account information for billing.
01:15So where are they going to actually charge you to, is it going to be your bank account,
01:19your credit card, et cetera.
01:20You will need merchant account information if that is something that you're interested
01:24in, and you will also need to know that the application does take 10 to 15 minutes to
01:28complete, and they do offer a Help section to get you started as well.
01:33If you want to know the pricing upfront, just click the Pricing button right here, and you'll
01:37see that the setup fee is $99, the monthly gateway fee is $20, and they do charge a per-transaction
01:44fee of 10 cents per transaction, and a batch fee of 25 cents.
01:49There are more details available as you're going through the application process.
01:53So if you have any questions about the payments, they will hopefully answer those there.
01:56They do also have email support down here, a phone number that you can call, very easy to do.
02:02Once you have set this up and get all the information you need, go back into your Magento
02:07dashboard if you're going to use Authorize.Net, and you'll go to System > Configuration.
02:13Inside of the Configuration you are going to scroll down until you find the Sales section
02:17and then find Payment Methods.
02:20Once the Payment Method screen loads, you're going to scroll down until you find Authorize.Net
02:25and expand it out.
02:26You can choose to enable this.
02:28Once you choose to enable it, you can then give it a Title, Payment Action, you will
02:33have to provide your API Login ID and Transaction Key.
02:37Those are both available to you inside of your Settings on your Authorize.Net account.
02:41So you can find more information about that on the Authorize.Net site.
02:45Do you want to email the customer? Yes, or no.
02:49Type in your merchant's email, where is this coming from, and tell it what type of credit
02:54card you wish to accept; American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, et cetera.
02:58You can then ask for credit card verification, payment from which countries, you can specify
03:04or allow all countries, it doesn't matter.
03:07You can give your Transaction ID a prefix.
03:10All of the options without a red star again are simply optional.
03:14Anything with a red star next to it is required.
03:16So none of this is actually required, because of the fact that you can use whatever payment
03:21gateway that you choose.
03:22But if you want to set up Authorize.Net, you can actually fill out all of this information
03:27corresponding to the information in your Authorize. Net profile, and then set up all the options that
03:32you want for your site as well, like minimum and maximum order totals, whether or not you're
03:37running this in Test Mode, what the sorting order is, all of that can be determined from this screen.
03:43Once you have finished setting all of this up, you can choose Save Config, Authorize.Net
03:48will then become your new default payment method here inside of Magento Go, and you can
03:53process credit card payments directly from your store using your Authorize.Net account.

Setting up Google Checkout
00:00Another popular payment method online these days is something called Google Checkout which
00:04has now actually become Google Wallet for buyers.
00:08If you go to the Google website checkout.google.com, it will take you to a page that looks similar
00:13to this, and once you get to this page, you can see that it tells you, you can increase
00:17online sales by using Google Wallet.
00:20It tells you here that Google Checkout is now Google Wallet for buyers, and it's a fast
00:24secure checkout process that is basically tied to your Google account.
00:27So you can sign into your Google account using either your Gmail address or your Google Apps address.
00:32And once you sign in, you will be able to start using Google Checkout or Google Wallet for buyers.
00:39You can see how it works by coming down here to the About Google Checkout section, and
00:43you can read the Learn More.
00:44You can also see cost and fees, how to get started, and all that good stuff.
00:49Once you have that set up, you come back into the Magento Go dashboard and go into System
00:55and go down to Configuration.
00:58And in order to set up Google Checkout, you actually scroll down to the Sales section,
01:02and inside of the Sales section, there is a section called Google API.
01:07Inside of the Google API, you can add a lot of different Google services including Google
01:11Analytics, Google AdWords, Google Checkout, Google Shopping, Website Optimizer, Checkout
01:17Shipping, all these different things are available to you.
01:20And if you want to just set up Google Checkout, just click it, and then choose Enable, set to Yes.
01:26And then come through and fill out all of the information like your Merchant ID and
01:29your Merchant Key which are available to you inside of the Google Checkout admin dashboard.
01:34You can also select the image that you use.
01:36This will be set up within Google Checkout as well, your location, new order statuses,
01:41continue shopping, whereas if someone were to add something to their cart, where does
01:45it take them when they click Continue Shopping? Do you want to hide the card? Do you disable
01:50default tax tables, enable using shipping rates from your Google accounts? So if you've
01:54set this up, go ahead.
01:57So once you have all this information set up, you can click Save Config, and Google
02:01Checkout will be added as a possible checkout option when someone purchases an item from
02:08your Magento Go store.

4. Customizing Your Store
Adding pages to your store
00:00By default, there are several pages that are created for you inside of your Magento Go system.
00:04If you want to view these pages, go to CMS > Pages > Manage Content.
00:09When you first come to this list you are going to see all of the different pages that
00:12are automatically generated for you, like an About Us page, Customer Service, Enable
00:16Cookies, Home page, a 404 Not Found, Privacy Policy and 503 Service Unavailable.
00:21Again, these are all automatically generated for you, you don't have to come up with the
00:25content for these pages, they are already published.
00:27What if you want to add a page to this? For instance, what if I wanted to add a page with
00:31some contact information for instance? I could go up here to the right, and click Add New
00:36Page, and that allows me to go to the New Page screen where I can then go and start
00:40filling out information like the Page Title and the URL Key.
00:45The Page Title refers to what this page is actually going to be called, the URL key is
00:48what people will have to type in in order to access this page,
00:51so mywebsite.com/contactus.html for instance.
00:56The Status of this page is going to be set to Published.
00:59And Under Version Control, this is totally up to you, if you want to manage different
01:03versions of this or you can manage different revision sets, and so forth.
01:07I find it a little bit cumbersome to do this, so I'm going to set this to No,
01:09that way I can always just edit that single page. I don't have to worry about each individual
01:14revision, and then I'm going to choose Save and Continue Editing.
01:17Once I do that, I'm going to be brought to this screen where I can type in a content
01:21heading, and I can also fill out information inside of this as well.
01:25And inside of this editor, I'm able to use all of these different tools here to make changes to this.
01:30So for instance, if I wanted the phone number here to be bold, I could select that and make it bold.
01:35If I wanted this information down here to be in italics, I could put that in italics.
01:40If I wanted this paragraph here at the top to be a little bit bigger, I could change
01:45the font size for instance to something like 14 points or maybe even larger at 18 points,
01:51something like that.
01:52Once I'm finished editing this information, and I can do any number of things, I can add
01:56images, video, I can do pretty much anything I could inside of a word processor, I can
02:01do inside of here.
02:02All I have to do is click Save and Continue Editing to continue with this, and then I
02:06can go to the other parts of this as well.
02:07I could go to the design phase, so I could go back and change this to either Empty, 1
02:12column, 2 columns, 2 columns with a right or left bar, 3 columns, and I'm going to talk
02:17about this in a future movie to explain exactly what the differences are.
02:20I can actually add a custom design, so this page maybe has a custom design ranging from
02:24this date until this date.
02:26So if I'm running a special on one of these pages, I can do that, I could also change
02:29the theme and the layout based upon this date range as well.
02:34I can add metadata like keywords and a description, making it easier for this page to be found in a search.
02:39So for instance, keywords might be contact, telephone, email, feedback, et cetera.
02:47The Description; just paste in here some of that information that I had before to add a description.
02:54I'll click Save and Continue Editing, and there we go!
02:58Once you have all of this information set up, you go ahead and click Save Page, and
03:02that will save the page, and return you back out into your page listings.
03:05You'll see that it shows up here.
03:07This is in alphabetical order, so you will see it right there close to the top, it is published.
03:11It tells you when it was published, and you can also click to preview it.
03:14When you click to preview it, you'll get a pop-up window, or another tab as I got here
03:19showing you exactly what you just did.
03:20So here is we want your feedback, please feel free to contact us with any questions.
03:24There is the information that I entered in.
03:26Notice this is bold, and this is italic, just like I wanted it to be, and then I can close
03:30that up and return back.
03:32So anytime you need to create a new page inside of Magento, remember you're just going to
03:36go up to CMS > Pages > Manage Content, and that will take you to this screen here.
03:42You can view all of the auto generated pages in the list at the bottom, and you can click
03:46on any one of those to edit or change the content of that page.
03:49You can also add a new page by clicking Add New Page, and then going to the steps that
03:53we just discussed.

Changing page layouts
00:00There may come a time as you start to work with and create your pages here inside of
00:03Magento Go that you want to go back in and alter the layout of that page, and you have
00:08the ability to do that.
00:10In order to access the Design section of the pages, all you have to do is go back to CMS >
00:14Pages, and choose Manage Content.
00:17Once you get into the Manage Content section, you are going to find the page you wish to edit.
00:20In this case, I want to change the Contact Us page.
00:23And once I find that page, I need to navigate over to the Design section.
00:27Inside of the Design section, you can choose a new layout option.
00:30You have the option of Empty, 1 column, 2 columns with left bar, 2 columns with right
00:35bar, and 3 columns.
00:37Let's take a look at all of these, so you get an idea of what they look like and how they work.
00:41I'll start off with the 1 column layout, that's what we're working with right now, and I'll
00:46Save and Continue Editing this, and then I'll preview it.
00:49And so, when I look at this preview, you are going to notice it's 1 column that spans the
00:52entire width of the page.
00:55So if you wanted that, this is what the 1 column layout looks like.
00:58Let's close that up and let's change this now to 2 columns with a left bar.
01:01I'll Save and Continue Editing and then I'll click Preview.
01:05When I preview it, you're going to notice that right here in the middle is your Content
01:10Block, and to the left, we have a Sidebar.
01:12There's no content in that sidebar because we haven't filled anything out inside of the
01:16left bar section of our CMS blocks.
01:19But in this case, if there was anything in there, you would see it there.
01:21You actually do see a small navigation right there.
01:25Let's close that up and go back.
01:27I'll change this now to 2 columns with the right bar, and I'll click Save and Continue Editing.
01:32When I preview it this time, you'll see the content has shifted to the left, and there
01:36is a right sidebar over here, and we do have a Compare Product screen, and also a Community
01:41Poll over here as well.
01:43These are auto-generated and automatically a part of the sidebar.
01:46You can go in and tweak these and change them anytime you want.
01:50Let's close this up, and go back, and take a look at 3 columns, and I'll hit Save And
01:55Continue Editing, and I'll preview it again.
01:59And once I preview it, you'll notice that we have the content smaller in the middle,
02:03we also have this right sidebar, and a left sidebar.
02:06So we could actually flank the content on both sides with more information.
02:10So changing the layout allows you not only to alter the look and feel of the page, but
02:14also allows you to present more information to your users in one single space.
02:19So you can have new product listings, polls, access to their shopping cart, different links,
02:24anything you want can go in these sidebar areas and that makes it so much more useful,
02:29because you can get more information in front of the customer while at the same time still
02:33serving the purpose of giving them meaningful information in the middle as well.
02:38So the next time you need to go in and change your page layout, remember, just go back up
02:42to CMS > Pages, and choose Manage Content.
02:45Once you're inside of that, check out the Design tab on the left-hand side, and then
02:49pick which layout you like best; 1, 2, or 3 columns.
Collapse this transcript
Adding links to the nav bar
00:00One of the more confusing things that I found as I was exploring the Magento Go system was
00:05the fact that it's a little difficult to add a link to your navigation bar inside of your homepage.
00:10So as you can see on this homepage here, I've got this product listing which is based upon
00:14the product categories that I've created.
00:16But I don't see any links to any pages in my system whatsoever.
00:20And so, I wanted to know exactly how to add one of these pages to this, and so in order
00:25to do that, you actually have to create quite the workaround.
00:27And so I'm going to walk you through how to do that right now.
00:30The first thing you'll need to do is go into your Catalog section, and open up the Manage
00:36Category section.
00:37I'm just going to open this up in a new tab.
00:39Once I have that done, I'm also going to go into my CMS section, and I'm going to open
00:43up the pages, and I am going to manage this content and open it up in a new tab as well.
00:48So now, I've got three basic tabs open; I've got my Dashboard, I've got my Categories,
00:52and I've got my Content for my pages all open.
00:56I can close my Home page for now, and also close my account dashboard.
01:00So I'm only working with these three.
01:02And so, we're going to start in the Categories, and when we're inside the Categories section,
01:05I'm going to pick my Default Category.
01:08Your categories may look a little different than this, that's just because I've cleaned
01:10up some of mine to put them into a product listing like so.
01:14If you go back and watch the Categories movie, you'll see how to do this exactly.
01:18But when I select Default Category, the overarching category, I need to add a new subcategory to this.
01:25So let's say for instance that I wanted to add a link to our About Us page.
01:28So what I'm going to do is I'm going to call this About Us, and you'd make sure that it
01:32is set to Active, and then you also need to make sure that down towards the bottom, that
01:37the Include in Navigation Menu is set to Yes.
01:42Then finally, you need to come up here, and make sure the URL Key is something like about-us, just like that.
01:49It needs to be all lowercase letters, and no spaces, only hyphens or underscores, and
01:53once you have that done, just click Save Category. That should put a new category called About
01:58Us over here on the left.
01:59And so, once I do that, now if I go back to my Home page, you'll see there is actually
02:04a link right there.
02:05But if I click on that, it doesn't go anywhere right now, because we haven't told it to do anything.
02:09This is merely linking to a category that doesn't yet exist.
02:12So once I have this done, I can then go back over here to my Manage Pages, and I actually
02:19do have an About Us page right there, and so, here is my Magento Store URL key. This
02:24is actually where I need it to go.
02:27So I need to remember that.
02:28So I'll just keep this open.
02:29But this is what I'm looking for later on.
02:31Once I have this done, I'm going to go back over into my Dashboard, I'm going to go down
02:37to Catalog, and go to URL Rewrite Management.
02:41Once I do that, you should see your new category up at the top here that says About Us right there.
02:46The number may differ based on your categories.
02:49That's okay as long as it's about-us.html.
02:52So what we're going to do here is we're going to click on it, and once we click on it, we
02:57are going to go down and find the target path which is this area here, and we need to select
03:01this just by clicking and dragging over it, and we need to copy it to our clipboard with
03:05Command+C or Ctrl+C.
03:07After we have copied that to our clipboard, we then need to go and set the Redirect to
03:13301 Permanent, and then we'll click Save.
03:17Once we click Save, it takes us back out.
03:19You can see now that this category now has a RP next to it for Redirect Permanent.
03:25Now once we have that done, we need to click in the upper right-hand corner on Add URL Rewrite.
03:32In the Create URL Rewrite section, we need to change this to Custom.
03:37In the ID path, we need to type the URL key of the page link using only hyphens instead of spaces.
03:44So basically, what we need to do here is type out about-us.
03:48For the request path, we need to paste in the target path that we copied earlier, and
03:53then we need to in the target path type out the page link that we're trying to go to.
03:59So let's go back over to the Pages here, and let's just select this, copy that, go back
04:06over into our URL rewrite, and paste it in.
04:10And so, for the redirect here, we need to set this to 301, and then we need to click Save.
04:17Now this could take some time for the redirect to work, but theoretically, when we go back
04:22to our homepage and refresh, whether it be now or sometime later, we should be able to
04:26then click on this, and it takes us to our About page that has been created just like so.
04:33So it is a roundabout way of adding links to your navigation bar, but that is how you do it.
04:38To control how these are laid out in the navigation bar, all you have to do is go back into your
04:44Categories and adjust the stacking order here.
04:46So if I want About Us to come before Products in the listing, just drag it up until it's
04:50above it, and let go.
04:52When I go back to the page and refresh, you can see that About Us and Products are going
04:57to flip places in the navigational order.
05:00So if you want to add links to the pages inside of your Magento Go Store, or if you want to
05:05add links to something like your Twitter or Facebook profile, you follow exactly the steps
05:09I just outlined there, and you'll be able to add your links to your navigation bar.
05:13Hopefully, after you've practiced it a few times, it will get a little bit easier.

Adding products to the homepage
00:00When you visit your homepage inside of your Magento Go store, you're going to
00:03notice something that is obviously absent and that's your products. There's nothing on the homepage,
00:08and so, by default, this is what happens and we have to tell Magento Go to actually show
00:13our products on our homepage.
00:14In order to do that we need to go back into our dashboard, and inside of the dashboard
00:18we need to go back to something called CMS and go down to something called Frontend Apps.
00:24Inside of the Frontend Apps section you're going to click on Add New Frontend App Instance
00:29over here on the right.
00:30Once that takes you through you are going to go into the Settings and you're going to
00:34pick Catalog New Product List, Continue.
00:37You're then going to give it a App Instance Title, this is required, so you just have
00:41to kind of make up a name, I'll call this newProds.
00:45And click Save and Continue.
00:48Now we actually have to tell it where to go,
00:50so we have to add something called a Layout Update.
00:53Inside of the Layout Update I am going to go down to specific page or Specified Page.
00:59It's then going to load up the information here, I am going to scroll down until I see
01:02CMS Home Page; the Block Reference I want this in the Main Content Area.
01:07And so, again, if I switch back over, that's this big area right here in the middle, and
01:12then I want it in the New Products Grid Template or a New Products List Template. Let's do
01:16the Grid Template, and we'll Save and Continue Editing, just like so.
01:22If we want to change any of this we can go to the Frontend App Options and we can say
01:26Display what Type of products, All products or only New products.
01:30We can say do we want to Page this, meaning there are several pages of products.
01:34We can also limit the number of products to display here as well.
01:38So I am not going to change any of these. I am just going to click Save, and now when I
01:42go back into my Manage Frontend App Instances screen, I should see this one right here, newProds,
01:47it is a Catalog New Products List.
01:49And if I go back to my homepage and refresh it, I now have my new products showing up
01:55on the home screen.
01:56And if you see any problems here this is a good time to go in and check that.
02:00So for instance right here, on this Blue Robot, I'm noticing there's no photo.
02:04And so this is a good time to go back into your settings, go into your Catalog > Manage
02:10Products and I'll find the Blue Robot, and I go to Images, and as you can see I don't
02:17have any of the images set, so I'll just go and make some changes to that.
02:21And once I do I'll save it, go back to my homepage, let's do a little refresh and there is the robot.
02:28Now those are displayed prominently on my homepage and if I were to click on one of
02:32these it should take me to that product page.
02:36And once I get to that product page I can see all of the information about that robot,
02:40and I could also add it to the cart or checkout using PayPal, purchase the item.
02:47And I can also email it to a friend, you'll see at the bottom if there are any related
02:50products, they show up here, and so you can actually see that our store is really coming
02:55together, now that we have figured out how to actually display our products and let people
02:59interact with them.

Working with themes
00:00Chances are you might not be happy with the design that comes out of the box here with Magento Go.
00:06And lucky for you there are several options available to you inside of Magento Go to actually change that.
00:12And so let's explore the Themes Directory that we have available to us inside of Magento
00:17Go, I am going to go back into my dashboard here and if you go down to the Design tab
00:21and choose Themes Editor that will actually launch up the themes directory.
00:27And when you first get to this, you're going to see several different themes.
00:29But what you might not realize is that there's actually over 30 of these available to you
00:33and you can page through them by clicking this little icon here.
00:36So if you like some of these you can browse through these, or switch to the next one, and
00:42keep going all the way through.
00:44All types of different designs, catering to all different types of stores. So you just
00:49browse through here until you find one that you would like.
00:53Once you get to that, if you would like to preview a theme, you just find one that you
00:57like, so for instance let's browse back--saw one that I liked, I believe it was on page 3.
01:05So let's check out this one right down here at the bottom.
01:07If I want preview that I click Preview, and it will show me what my store would look like
01:12with this layout.
01:13So if I don't like this one I can just click Quit Preview and it takes me back out.
01:17If I want to preview another one I just find it and preview it, it launches it up.
01:22And I kind of like that one, so if I wanted to I could go back in, I could Quit Preview
01:27now and I could just click on that and that would make that my new active theme.
01:31I would then go through the same process I went through when I first set up my theme
01:35to give it a name and then make any alterations to it that I wanted to.
01:39But it's pretty easy to find a theme in this directory and then preview it and also apply it to your site.
01:46So again you just navigate to this area, find the themes, preview them.
01:51If you like what you see inside of the preview, then you can quit the preview, go back in
01:55and click on it and apply that new theme going forward on your site to make it look just like that.
02:01And if you really want to get into it you can actually customize these with HTML and
02:05CSS to make them look even more custom to your needs.
02:09Now if you're not familiar with HTML and CSS you can always hire a web developer or you
02:13can simply browse some of the HTML and CSS courses that are available to you in the online
02:17training library here at lynda.com.
02:19Look for authors like James Williamson, he has several on HTML and CSS, and also Ray Villalobos
02:25has some great titles on creating things with HTML and CSS as well.
02:29So check out both of those authors James Williamson and Ray Villalobos for some great courses
02:33on how to customize with HTML and CSS a little bit further.
02:37Otherwise, you'll just be stuck with these default layouts which are perfectly fine and
02:41can be customized using your own images, and they're really slick as well.
02:45So remember, the next time you want to change up the look and feel of your site, just navigate
02:48to the Design tab, find the Themes Editor and then come right in and start picking away.

Using a custom domain name
00:00Having your own online store is great and having one that you've gotten for free is even better.
00:05However, you may want to actually add a level of customization to this that makes it a little
00:10bit more personalized to you.
00:12Because with the free account here at Magento Go you do get a free online store but you
00:15don't get your own custom URL.
00:19Your URL will actually be something.gostore.com.
00:24And while that's okay, most people are going to want to have their business name .com or their name .com.
00:30And so I would recommend actually doing that before you even get started, go through and
00:35get your own custom domain name that way it's all ready to go.
00:38Once you have your store pretty much built up and you're ready to actually link that
00:41domain to your store, this is how you do it.
00:45You log into your My Account screen, you can get there by going to My Account and then
00:49clicking on your account name and it should take you to this screen here.
00:53Once you're on this screen, you then need to go down to the Custom URL section and click Add.
00:59Now if you're not sure exactly what this means, you can come right over here to Custom URL
01:03and click on that and it will explain to you that a domain name is an Internet address
01:07that makes it easier for people to find your store.
01:10It's also a tool for branding and an affordable domain name can be purchased from numerous
01:14domain registrars and Internet hosting companies.
01:17I'm sure you've heard of Go Daddy or even something like hover.com or various different domain
01:23registrars that are out there.
01:24I actually recommend hover.com because it's so easy and so quick.
01:29So if you try something like hover.com go find your domain name and then register that,
01:33then you will be able to use that domain here on Magento Go.
01:37In order to do that what you'll need to do is read up about it, and so go to the Custom
01:42URL section here and then click on the Knowledge Base link.
01:44When you click on the Knowledge Base link it will take you to this page here.
01:48And so it will tell you all about setting up your Custom URL for your domain.
01:53Basically there are two parts here, step one you go into the Magento dashboard like so,
01:57you click Add, and then you simply type out the domain name that you want, so like mydomain.com
02:04and then you'll click Save.
02:06Once you click Save, that's all there is to do on the Magento Go side.
02:10However now you need to log into the back end of your domain registrar and configure
02:15the DNS settings to point to the following IP address.
02:20And you can click on this question mark to see exactly what that means and it tells you
02:23that you must configure your DNS settings to point the Magento Go, because basically
02:26you have to tell your original website provider, wherever this domain was purchased, Go Daddy,
02:32hover.com, wherever, you have to tell that URL, hey every time someone types you in,
02:37I want you to automatically point to this Magento Go store.
02:41And you do that for something called an A record in your DNS configuration, and it has
02:45to point to the IP address that they give you here.
02:48If you don't know how to do that you can go back to the Knowledge Base article and they
02:51walk you through this step by step as if you were doing it on godaddy.com.
02:57Now you don't necessarily have to do it on Go Daddy, you can do it on hover.com or any
03:01number of other places, but this idea remains the same.
03:04You need to find a place where you can go in and edit the DNS settings, you then do
03:08need to add something called an A record to this, and the A record needs to point to this
03:12IP address, and once you do that everything should be ready to go.
03:17The final step in this is you need to activate your new domain.
03:21And so basically what you do here is you go into the Admin panel and that's the Admin
03:25panel of your store.
03:27So I'll go back in here and click Manage my Store.
03:30Once you're inside of this you need to go down the System and you need to go down to Configuration.
03:35Once the Configuration screen has been loaded go over here to the left and click on Web
03:39and inside of the Web options you'll notice you have URL Options, Active Domain and Default Pages.
03:49And so basically here you can say, hey I want to switch this over to my domain.com, meaning
03:54every time somebody accesses this, the active domain is my domain.com.
03:59Or you can set it back to this if the URL happens to not be working or whatever it might be.
04:03But once you've set that over, then you're ready to go.
04:06You click Save Config and everything should be okay.
04:10Again, refer back to the Knowledge Base, that's going to be your best source because they're
04:14going to update this with any changes they make going forward and keeping this up-to-date
04:18is very important obviously so they're going to do it, and you can see step-by-step how
04:22to do exactly what we just talked about so that you can use your own custom domain name
04:27on your Magento Go store.

5. Managing Your Store
Processing orders
00:00In addition to being able to take orders online you can also take orders offline as well and
00:05then process them using the Magento Go system.
00:08So if you had like a call-in center where people can call in to place orders, or if you
00:12have a brick and mortar store that someone calls into you and says hey I want this that
00:16I saw online or something like that, and they want to just have you do the ordering for them.
00:20In any case you'll need to service your customers in any way possible.
00:24You can actually process those orders directly from Magento Go and that's what I am going
00:27to show you how to do in this movie.
00:30So the first thing you need to do is locate the Sales option in your navigation of your
00:34Magento Store dashboard and then go down to Orders.
00:38Once you reach the ordering screen you'll be able to see any pending orders that you
00:41have. Currently I don't have any, but I can create a new order by clicking right here.
00:46Once I'm taken to the Create New Order screen, I am then able to select a customer.
00:50If this customer has shopped with me before, theoretically they are in my customer database.
00:55If they are not in my customer database I can create a new customer by clicking right there.
01:01Once I have clicked that, it takes me to the create new order for our new customer screen,
01:05and I can then select what group they are a part of, I am just going to say they are General group.
01:09I am going to add an email address here and then I'll fill out their information.
01:16I can choose to save this in my address book.
01:19If the shipping address and billing address are different you can fill that out here or
01:22you can simply say same as billing, and that will go ahead and populate all of that information for you.
01:28No payment information is required when you're creating this order, simply because maybe
01:31they've already paid you over the phone or whatnot.
01:34You could also get Shipping Method quotes, if you have this hooked into a shipping provider,
01:38if not you don't have to do that.
01:40And then towards the top you can also add a product to this as well.
01:44So let's go ahead and add a product, and let's say that they bought the vintage yellow robot
01:48toy, so we've added that.
01:51And I'll click Add Selected Product(s) to Order, it takes a minute to process, so now
01:56you can see there is order total right there. We can apply coupon or gift card codes if
02:01they had one, and down towards the bottom we get their subtotal, their tax and all of that.
02:08Once we're finished with all of this we can hit Submit Order and that will complete the
02:11ordering process. There will also be an order confirmation sent to them and that way you
02:15can keep track of this order, no matter where it came from inside of your Magento Go system.
02:21So now if I hit Submit Order it may warn me that shipping methods need to be applied.
02:26No shipping is available because I haven't hooked this into any shipping yet.
02:29But if this were there I could pick the shipping method, then submit the order, everything
02:33would go through and you would see that pop up in your Pending Orders list, where you
02:36could then ship it out using all of the different methods that are available to you inside of
02:41the Magento Go dashboard.

Managing your customer database
00:00As you start to receive orders you may find a need to start to manage or work with your
00:05customer database.
00:06In any case you have the ability to take your customers that are signing up for your site
00:10and export them out as a CSV, and then use that in other applications, and you can also
00:14add new customers to this database at any given time as well.
00:18In order to do that you need to navigate to the Customers navigation icon here and choose
00:22Manage Customers.
00:25Once you get into the Manage Customer screen you'll see your existing customers down here
00:28at the bottom, and you can edit any one of those at any time by clicking on them.
00:32So for instance if I want to edit Kirk Werner here, I'll just click on that and that will
00:37take me in here. I can see all of the different information about this individual.
00:41I can go to his Account Information.
00:43I can make any necessary changes that I need to.
00:45I can also go into his Addresses and I can add a new address.
00:49And I could say that he lives at this address here and fill out all of his information.
00:57I can add that as default billing and shipping address and then I can save the customer.
01:04Once I save that, you'll notice all that information is now populated inside of Kirk's customer
01:08information right there, and so I can make that change for anybody here inside of this.
01:13I can also add new customers by clicking Add New Customer, and once I do that I can then
01:18fill out this information. So I'll just add a new customer here, and we'll set the gender,
01:26you can choose to send them a welcome email if you wish, and the password here, we will
01:30just give them a password. You can also send an auto-generated password if you want to.
01:36Sending an auto-generated password sends them an email with an auto-generated password.
01:40It'll be the much more secure than what you come up with here probably, so I'll recommend
01:43doing that, but for now I'll just set this up like so.
01:46I can then go into their Addresses and I can add a new address for this person.
01:50If I click New Address it takes me to the screen here, I can fill this out.
01:58Once I get all that information done, I'll check to make sure it's accurate and then
02:00save the customer, and there you see Doug appears right there.
02:04And if I wanted to export this out as a CSV list or an Excel XML document, I could choose
02:11either one of those right there and choose Export.
02:14Once I do that I get to download it, just like you see there and I can then load that
02:18into an Excel spreadsheet or some sort of billing software, or whatever it is that I
02:21might need to keep track of all these customers with, perhaps an email list that I wanted
02:26to maintain somewhere else like MailChimp or something.
02:29As your customer base continues to grow, this is the screen where you'll come to manage
02:33all of those people, and if you get orders from external sources,
02:36you can always come in and add a new customer here, or if you get business leads at a conference
02:41or something like that,
02:41you could come in, load them in your customer database, and then use that to email them and
02:45send them blasts and stuff like that.
02:48So the Customer Management screen inside the Magento goes actually very well done and very
02:52powerful, and I recommend that you check it out and learn each individual nuance in here,
02:56so that you know how to effectively work with your customer database as well.

Putting a site in maintenance mode
00:00From time to time you may need to perform maintenance on your website, whether that's
00:04updating the content, adding new products or even changing the theme or updating some
00:08of the CSS or HTML settings inside of your theme.
00:12When you're doing things like this it's best to do what's called Maintenance Mode on your
00:16site and what that does is basically put your site in a state of suspension so that no one
00:21actually sees it while you're working on it.
00:24And so in order to put your site into maintenance mode, what you'll do is navigate your Dashboard,
00:28which where I am at here, then you can go to System and navigate down to Configuration.
00:34Once you get into the Configuration screen, you'll notice right here under General there
00:37is a Maintenance Mode tab and when you click on that, you can open up the Maintenance Mode options.
00:42So do you Enable Maintenance Mode? Yes.
00:44If so, which Page you want this to go to? So if I wanted Maintenance Mode for instance,
00:49I might create a page for Maintenance Mode, so would go to CMS > Pages > Manage Content
00:54and I would go Create a Page.
00:56If you'd like more information about creating pages you can go back to Chapter 4 of this
00:59course and check out the movie on creating pages, but you'd just pick the page that you
01:04want here, so let just say I wanted to go to the Home page, I could just select Home
01:09page from this list and I could also give a Whitelist of specified IP addresses that
01:15are unaffected by this.
01:17My IP address for instance, I would want to Whitelist that so that I could see the store
01:21as I'm building it, and then you'd click Save Config, and basically what would happen is
01:27while the site is in Maintenance Mode, no one would be able to access it unless they're
01:31on this Whitelist. They would just be redirected to whatever page you specify here.
01:37Once you're finished making your updates to this site, you would come back to the same
01:41place, set this to No, and then choose Save Config. That way, once you've saved that, the
01:48website is back to functioning normally and when people try to access it, they won't be
01:52restricted to just that page anymore.
01:55Put your site into Maintenance Mode when you're making big behind-the-scenes changes, either
01:59refreshing your inventory, adding new products, changing the theme or whatever it is that
02:03you might be doing. Maintenance Mode is a great way to keep your site online while still
02:08hiding what's going on behind the scenes.

Managing users and permissions
00:00Chances are you're not the only one that's going to be managing this online store.
00:04In fact, you've probably got a team of people that are going to be helping you, either taking
00:07orders, maintaining the site, updating product information or whatever that might be.
00:12And so you need to be able to give these people access to this site, but you may want to limit
00:16exactly what they're allow to do, based on the certain roles that they play in your work environment.
00:21In order to do that you'll need to manage their roles and permissions.
00:26In this movie I'm going to be exploring both the System User's panel and also the Roles
00:31in the Systems panel, so that you can see how to setup new users and then how to give
00:35them a new role as well.
00:38So the first thing I'm going to do is create some new roles, so I'm going to go down to
00:41the System tab, and then go down to Permissions and select Roles, and inside of the Role you'll
00:47notice I have Administrators is the only thing listed here by default. I'm going to New Role
00:52and I'm just going to call this Product Marketing, and I'll Save the Role, and then I'll go over
00:59here to Role Resources, and let's see exactly what they're allowed to do.
01:05So I'm going to give them permission to edit the Catalog. I may also give them control
01:10over some of the Design aspects, and let's say that we want to give them control over
01:16the customers and of course promotions, since they are the marketing people, and the newsletter.
01:21Don't necessarily want them to have control over all of the pages, but I may want to give
01:26them the ability to save a revision to the page, and let's see, I want them to have access
01:30to all the reports.
01:32I don't want to give them permission to alter permissions, but I may want to give them some
01:37of these other options through here.
01:39So you just scroll through, find everything you want them to be able to do, and then once
01:43you have finished selecting all of this, you click Save Role.
01:48Now let's go back into the System section, go to Permissions, and let's go back to the
01:51Roles homepage, and you should see two of them now: Administrators and Product Marketing.
01:55Let's add one more new role and this one we're going to call Graphic Designer and we'll save the role.
02:03Go to the Role Resources and I'm just going to go down into the Design, just give them
02:09the ability to edit the design, and also the page attributes, and it should be all they need access to.
02:17So we'll save that role.
02:20I'm going to create some users to fall under these roles, so let's go to System, let's
02:24go down to Permissions and let's go to Users.
02:27Inside of the Users you'll see here that there is me, the admin, and I need to create some
02:31new users to go along with me.
02:33User Name here, I'm just going to call this dougw, Doug Winnie and his email address,
02:42password and this account is active.
02:45I can then go over to User Role and say that he is a Product Marketing person and so I'll save the user.
02:53Once I save that user, you should get a notification saying the user has been saved, and then we
02:58can go back and I have a new user right there.
03:02I can add another user, so let's add this in jfritz, so that's James Fritz, give him
03:12a password, account is active.
03:14User Role; I'm going to let Fritz be my Graphic Designer and then I'm going to save the user.
03:21Once I have saved that user I can go back, and so now I have me, the owner. I'm the Manager of all things.
03:26I have Fritz who is a Graphic Designer, and I have Doug who is my Product Marketing person.
03:32And so you can create as many users and as many roles as you need to in order to effectively
03:36manage your store, but I really suggest you map out exactly what you think you're going
03:40to need, what permissions each one of this roles need to have, and then assign different
03:45people to these roles, so that you can effectively manage individual aspects of your store, without
03:51you having to be the end- all be-all for everything.

Managing store search
00:00As you continue to refine your store and try to make things easier for your customers to
00:05find, it may be a good idea to tweak something called your Search settings.
00:09At face value, it maybe kind of hard to find exactly where those are, so what you're going
00:13to have to do is go to the System section, go down to Configuration. Inside of Configuration
00:19you're going to scroll down until you find the Catalog section, and then you're going
00:24to click on the word Catalog.
00:26Once the Catalog section loads you can scroll down and find Catalog Search.
00:31This is where you can adjust the Search settings, the way that people interact with your site.
00:36So the Minimal Query Length, this refers to the number of characters that need to be in
00:41the search box before a search you perform.
00:44You can also determine the Maximum Query Length which determines the maximum number of characters
00:49that are allowed inside of the search box.
00:52You can expand this out so people can look for longer descriptions or you can shorten
00:56it up so that people can only type one or two words.
01:00It is totally up to you. I would actually recommend increasing this, maybe to somewhere
01:04like 140 characters just to give them the ability to type in some sort of phrase.
01:08Maybe they don't remember the product name necessarily, but they remember something about
01:12the description and they can type that in and hopefully find it.
01:15The Maximum Query Words Count; that's how many words are allowed in this search query.
01:21So you might want to change that a little bit to correspond with how long you've made
01:24the query length.
01:25So maybe you want to up that to maybe like 15 words.
01:29Enable Search Suggestions; if it's set to Yes, the search results list for a query that
01:34returns no results, will display a message that says did you mean and then something
01:40followed after that.
01:40So if you misspelled robots for instance and someone typed down like roboots, they would
01:46come back with a suggestion saying, oh did you mean robots, and so it will try to help
01:50the user if they do misspellings or if they come close to a search term that's in your database.
01:56You can also show the results count for each suggestion.
01:59For instance, if they give you a suggested term like, did you mean robots, and then it
02:02will say in parentheses how many results they found for robots, or cars, or whatever it might be.
02:10Enable Search Recommendations; basically what this means is if this is set to Yes and there
02:14are no results returned from the query terms that are entered into the search box that
02:18they will give you a list of related search terms.
02:21And so you can set this to Yes, which displays the text related search terms followed by
02:25a list of the recommended search terms underneath it, or you can set it to No, which will not
02:31enable search recommendations at all.
02:34So you can take a look at these and adjust them to your liking. It's going to be different
02:37for every store and every person, but I think for the most part as long as you keep this
02:41within an adequate range so that people can actually type things into your search box
02:45and still find what they're looking for, I think you're doing your job.
02:49Once you have all of these set up the way you like, go ahead and choose Save Config,
02:53that's going to save all of this information and then once people go to the front-end of
02:57your website and search for something, all of these new rules will apply going forward.

Adding product ratings
00:00One of most valuable things you can get from your customers is feedback, and one of the
00:04easiest ways to add a feedback experience to your store is to manage something called
00:10Product Ratings or Service Ratings.
00:12And this is something that can range anywhere from actually allowing someone to send you
00:16an email with feedback or simply adding a star-rating system to the products that you
00:21sell in your store.
00:22You've all seen that on stores like Amazon.com and things like that, people give it x amount
00:26of stars out of five and that determines a lot of times who comes back to the store,
00:31who buys what, and what products they buy.
00:34And so in order to do that inside of Magento Go, you just go to the Catalog section and
00:38go down to Reviews and Ratings and select Manage Ratings.
00:42When you first get into this, you'll notice that there are three available to you by default,
00:46Price, Quality, and Value.
00:48If you like these you can certainly keep them in there, if you do not like these you can
00:53simply remove them.
00:54So like if I didn't like the Value rating, I could come in here and I could just delete
00:57the rating and hit OK, that removes it.
01:01I can also remove let's say Quality, remove that, and we'll leave the Price.
01:08Let's Add a new rating to this as well and so the Default Value for this, we're just
01:12going to call it Customer Service.
01:16And the Rating Visibility; we're going to give it the Default Store View.
01:20Once we do that we can choose Save Rating.
01:25Once we've saved that rating you will see that customer service is then added there,
01:29and so that way when people are interacting with a product whether they have purchased
01:33it or they come back afterwards, and they're signed in their account, they will actually
01:37be able to rate from one to five stars, the Customer Service and the Price of this item.
01:42You can choose as many different rating types as you want, you can change how they're displayed
01:47in your store in any way you want. That's totally up to you.
01:49But again, managing the rating system is going to be an essential part in getting feedback
01:53from your customers and learning exactly what they do and do not like about your store experience.
02:01So my suggestion is to come up with a few different pillars of information that you'd
02:05like to get from people and then put those in there as ratings that are available on
02:09all of the product pages, whether it would be price, shipping times, customer service,
02:14whatever it might be that gives you information on how you're doing and also gives prospective
02:18customers information on how your store interacts with its public and also how you respond to
02:24those issues as well.

Adding customer reviews
00:00Occasionally customers will want to comment or review the products that they have purchased from you.
00:05These reviews can be both positive and negative as you've seen on many sites before.
00:10But the good thing about Magento Go is the fact that you have the ability to moderate these reviews.
00:15As they start to review products and their experience with your store, you will start
00:18to get these reviews inside of your Magento Go dashboard.
00:21In order to see these reviews you need to go up here to the Catalog section and go down
00:26to Reviews and Ratings and then choose Customer Reviews, and then you can see all of the Pending Reviews.
00:33Once you do that if there are any pending reviews you'll see it listed here and you
00:36can actually click on it to view that review.
00:39They don't give a rating here necessarily but they tell you what the product is, who
00:42the person was that bought it, and the nickname of that person which you can change.
00:46You can also see the review that they wrote.
00:49If you would like to save this review, just go ahead and save it and it goes back out.
00:55You can select the review here and then choose to Delete it or Update the Status and then
01:02change the status to Approved, and hit Submit.
01:06Once you've approved it that is now part of that product's review.
01:10So if I go to my store homepage and I find the blue robot, on the blue robot page you'll
01:16see one review, and if I click on that, it expands it out, and you'll see that at the bottom.
01:22Here it is, best toy ever, everything about it, and who posted it as well.
01:27You can actually sort these reviews down here at the bottom and you can write in reviews
01:32as well if you're logged into the system.
01:34This is a great place where you could respond to this review.
01:37So if they have posted something negative maybe you could respond to that or if they
01:39just posted something positive, you could say thank you for choosing our site, or whatever
01:44you might want to say.
01:46And so the review system inside of Magento Go is actually pretty good, and you can use
01:50that to both moderate and work with the different product reviews that people submit.
