Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard comes with four new fonts you can use in your word processing and page layout applications, or just about any other application you can type in. I have opened the Font Book application and I created a new collection of fonts to show these to you. The new fonts are called 'Chalkduster' 'Heiti', 'Hiragino Sans GB' and 'Menlo'. Now Heiti and Hiragino are Chinese fonts so you probably won't use them much unless you read and write Chinese, but if you do you have both the simplified character and traditional character versions of Heiti available to you.
Menlo replaces the font Monaco, which has been around since Apple released system 1 back in 1984, as the new default Monospace Sans Serif font in Snow Leopard and it's the default font you will now see in Terminal if you use the Terminal utility. This probably isn't a big deal if you are not a coder or a developer, but coders do take the font face of their code very seriously and this is kind of a big change. So if you are a coder and you don't like to switch to Menlo in Terminal, you can always switch back to Monaco by going to Preferences > Settings, and changing the font here under the Text tab.
And Chalkduster is just one of those fun fonts that's probably not appropriate for term papers or business letters, but you may find use for if you are laying out a brochure or making a flyer. So those are the four new fonts that ship with Snow Leopard.
