Mac OS X has been rewritten from the ground up, and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard New Features highlights all of the most important and user-relevant aspects of this release. Experienced instructor and lifelong Mac user Garrick Chow introduces current Mac users to the improvements in the latest OS. While not a complete overhaul of the operating system, this update does address a fair number of internal systems and external user features. Garrick explores all of these updates, including enhancements to the Finder and the Dock and a completely revamped QuickTime player. He shows the wealth of improvements to built-in applications like Safari, Preview, iChat, and Mail, and explains the updated 64-bit support within Snow Leopard.
iChat in Snow Leopard now integrates Quick Look capabilities, so you can preview images sent by your buddies without leaving iChat. My buddy Melanie is about to send me a couple of photos. Let me just chat with her and let her know to send them through. Okay, so she sent me three photos, which I can kind of preview here, and a PDF file which I have the option here of downloading.
I will just go ahead and download that. And again, here in iChat I can kind of see what these images look like, but I can't preview the PDF. But what I can do here in iChat, in Snow Leopard, is choose File > Quick Look and now I can browse through the images and the PDF without leaving iChat using the navigation tools, found at the bottom of the Quick Look window here. There is the PDF file. We even have the option of viewing an Index Sheet. So I can click on the image I want to better look at. That brings it back up.
I can even look at this in full-screen to view at the largest size possible. We can even add this photo directly to iPhoto. Let's exit full-screen. So for the most part, this works almost exactly like Quick Look does in the Finder, only now Quick Look is integrated into iChat as well.
