Here is one more small change to the OS X Dock. I am going to open up the Dock's preferences by right-clicking on the divider and choosing Dock Preferences. Of course, you can also get here by going through System Preferences too. Now the Preferences here in Snow Leopard are nearly identical to the ones found in Leopard, but there is one new check box labeled 'Minimize Windows into Application icon'. Now normally when you minimize windows they get sucked down into the right side of the Dock, so let me just show you that real quick.
You can see they are sitting there down there in the Dock. I'm actually going to keep the Dock visible, so we can see this. To get back your minimized windows you just mouse over them, find the one you want and click it. But if you are in the habit of minimizing a lot of windows you know how quickly your Dock can get cluttered with minimized windows making your icons all smaller, so you might want to try checking 'Minimize Windows into Application Icon.' Now when I minimize a window it gets sucked not to the right side of the dock, but behind or into its application icon.
So as I continue to minimize my Safari windows they are going right into the Safari icon. They essentially disappear leaving your Dock uncluttered. To get them back I just right-click the Application icon which gives me a list of all the minimized windows, and you can tell which ones are minimized by the little Diamond icon next to them, and by selecting them, they come right back. There you have another small but useful new feature found in Snow Leopard.
