Here's a challenge to you never be afraid to experiment in three dimensions with materials to see what's possible. Cut out strips of paper or unfurl a foot or two of ribbon and see what actually happens when you play with lighting and angles or perspectives. Snap a picture or two from this process and upload them to your desktop to capture the nuance of reality that might make a good logo great. Duffy Design Partners did just that when creating the ubiquitous pink ribbon logo for Susan G. Komen Foundation. It's not terribly different from many other cause ribbons, but this mark has a three dimensional quality of line, even though it's created with just two flat colors. No longer is it a folded ribbon, it is a woman in stride, despite it's simple appearance. No need to make excuses for imitating symbolism with line.
