So sometimes it's useful to be able to import settings from other presets or in the case of Ultrabeat, we can also import EXS24 Settings. So we can do that with the Assignment section. It's actually going to be right above the Assignment section. So let's take a look at what's above here. We have got two things. So first we have this voice auto select. So what this is going to allow me to do, when I turn is on, is to select the voice depending on what MIDI note I am playing. So if I play on my keyboard, you can see in the Assignment area, it's selecting that sound.
Now if I turn this off and I play MIDI notes, it just stays on whatever one I already had selected. So that's how that works. Then we have this Import button up here, and so this is what's going to allow me to import other Ultrabeat settings or EXS24 sampler instruments. So let's start with another Ultrabeat setting. So I will hit Import. So this takes me to my Ultrabeat folder where I have the Ultrabeat presets. For some reason if it doesn't, let me show you how to get there. You go to your hard drive and then Library, then Application Support, and then to the Logic folder, and in there you are going to go to the Plug-in Settings, and we will scroll down to Ultrabeat.
So in here we have got the different presets, so I will go to Drum Kits. And I am going to select this African Kit. So what this does is it brings up a list of all the sounds in the African Kit preset. (music playing) So what I can do is audition them and then I can drag and drop them in. So I am going to take this Djembe 2 and if I just drag this, it's going to copy the voice. Now take a look at the Step Sequencer, and you see that for this Kick Drum, I have sequence information for it.
So watch when I drop this voice. So it's replaced the sound now with the Djembe, but it still have the same step sequencer information. So now if I want to bring in the Step Sequencer information for this Djembe from the African Kit preset, what I can do is, when I am dragging it in, I hold down Command. So I am holding down Command now, and I'm going to drag it in, and you can see the Step Sequencer info changed. So that's how that works. If I want to import an EXS24 kit, the way I can do that is press the Import button and then I am going to go to where the EXS24 presets are, the factory ones.
So if I go to our hard drive, Library/ Application Support, go to the Logic folder, then in there we have the Sampler Instruments folder. So this is all the factory EXS24 instruments. So I will go to Drums & Percussion and Electronic Drum Kits. We will do this Big Beat Remix Kit. So I hit Open and now I get a list of all the samples that are in that kit. And so notice that I actually have this arrow here, so that means that there is more than just 25 samples. So I can scroll up, you can see my list changes, and so I can choose whichever voice and drag it in and that's how that works.
Now there is another way that I can import EXS24 instruments as well that's actually in some ways simpler. So I am going to close this menu by pressing this little caret right here. So if I go to the Finder and I find an EXS24 instrument, I can just drag and drop it to the Assignment section. So let's do that. So I will hit Command+Tab to go to the Finder. Then I will go to our hard drive, go to the Library folder, Application Support, into Logic, and then we will go to the Sampler Instruments, and Drums & Percussion/Electronic Drum Kits, and we will bring in this Breaks Remix Kit.
So what I can do is just click on it and then drag it over to the Assignment section. You can see now it's all highlighted here, so then I drop it and then there it is. It's loaded all the sounds in, and I can play them. (music playing) And it's ready to go. The only downside to dragging and dropping is that it only brings in the first 25 samples, so if you had more notes than that in your EXS24 kit, so let's say you had 88 drum sounds, it doesn't let you choose which ones you want to bring in. It's just going to bring in the first 25, whereas with that Import menu up here we are able to choose specific voices we wanted to bring in.
So now that we have explored how to import voices and sequences from other Ultrabeat settings, and from EXS24, in the next video, let's dive into the Synthesizer section of Ultrabeat.
