Join author Brian Trifon as he shows how to improve music and audio productions using virtual instruments in Logic Pro. This course tours the program's virtual instruments, including the ES2 hybrid synthesizer, Sculpture physical modeling synthesizer, EFM1 FM synthesizer, the EVOC 20 vocoder, the Ultrabeat drum synthesizer, and the EXS24 sampler, and shows how to achieve various effects with each instrument's parameters. ES M is a monophonic, subtractive synthesizer that's really great for creating focused, punchy bass sounds, lead sounds that cut through the mix, and a variety of other analog-sounding synth sounds. Much of ES M's strength and utility comes from its simplicity. We tend to think of "more is better," but sometimes the simpler tools get the job done with less hassle. Throughout this chapter we'll be exploring the signal flow in ES M, how to use the Oscillator section and the built-in Low Pass Filter, as well as the Amplifier section with the overdrive control.
Before we dig into the details of ES M, let's listen to an example of it in action. So in this example I've got six instances of ES M that are creating all of the different synth parts, and Ultrabeat, which is another Logic instrument, is creating the drums, so check it out. (music playing)
