Creating gate effects with the Slicing Flex mode

Let's look at the gate effects you can do on a beat with the Flex Mode Slicing. The flex algorithms can be selected on the track header in the track list, but they can also be selected in the Instrument Parameter box, here in the Inspector. When you make the selection here, you'll see a few cool parameters to adjust for some of the flex modes like the slice length that I was just changing up. Let me set this up for you from scratch. The Slicing mode allows you to perform flex editing without applying the time compression or expansion to the original audio. Let me throw these two loops into a group, to adjust them together. Go into the mixer, select them, let's get the view of mixer up, put them into group one and make sure in the group settings that editing is selected. Close the mixer. And now, we can select an algorithm for both of these loops at the same time. Close out the group parameter box so we can see the track, parameter box here. I'll select slicing. Now, they're both in the slicing mode, let me zoom in for you to see this a little closer. Just like the name suggests, this mode slices the audio without any time stretching. Just moves the slices around as needed preserving the original attack and release on the performance. Here's the fun parameter to play with, slice length. This shortens each slice by a percentage value which can eliminate any pre-attack sounds from the following slice, or create a dramatic gated effect. Experimenting with this slice length parameter of this slicing flex mode can quickly create a whole other section of your track or a whole new song.
