There are some useful features on LinkedIn that can be accessed using a smartphone on the Android platform. Once you've downloaded the application and signed in with your username and password, you'll arrive on a home screen. In the top left-hand corner is the LinkedIn icon, which acts as a return key to bring you back to the home screen any stage. In the top middle is a search bar, which enables you to rapidly find people, review their profiles and send them an invitation to join your network if you wish. In the top right-hand corner is a gear wheel which takes you through to some of the settings.
These include the General Settings as well as the option to turn on and off notifications from the application. Beneath this is the option to integrate the calendar on your smartphone with LinkedIn. This calendar utilizes the email addresses of the people that you are meeting to pull up their LinkeIn profiles if they have them, enabling you to review the profiles of people you are meeting in advance. Finally at the bottom your screen, you have an option to add connections. This will search the contacts you have in your smart phone's address book and allow you to add them to your LinkedIn network by sending out invitations.
In the main section of the screen are four large icons. In the top left-hand corner is the Update section. This includes LINKEDIN TODAY and Recent Updates from your network, including how your network is growing via new connections. In the top right-hand corner is an icon that links through to your profile. You will be able to read through your profile,as well as editing it and accessing your connections and groups via links from this screen. You would also notice in the top right-hand corner is a speech bubble, it enables you to write an update and select who to send it to with your options being Anyone or your Connections only.
You can also select to send the update out via Twitter, if you have connected this account. In the bottom left-hand corner is an icon that will list you through to your messages, these include your Inbox and your Notifications. Your Inbox will include messages as well as invitations and you can select to accept or decline invitations from the screen. You can also compose new messages and invitations by clicking on the icon in the top right-hand corner.
Finally in the lower right-hand corner is an icon that links through to PEOPLE YOU MAY KNOW, GROUPS, Jobs and Companies. If you click on the PEOPLE YOU MAY KNOW at the top of the screen, you'll have the option to send invitations to people, we'll click on the icon with an X to remove that suggestion and load the next one up from beneath. If you click on the GROUPS icon you will have three sections; Groups You May Like, which are recommendations for you; Pending Membership, where you are still waiting for your approval to join the group; and Your Groups, where you are already an active member.
Beneath this is Jobs with Your Saved Jobs and Jobs recommended for you. And finally, Companies, where you can review suggested companies as well as selecting the icon for one of the companies you are following to go through to the company page and review the background to the company as well as seeing any jobs that may currently have posted on LinkedIn.
