One of the challenges of working with video files inside of Lightroom is that sometimes they get lost in the shuffle. In the midst of all of your other photographs, often it's difficult to locate and find those movie files. Well, there's actually a technique that you can use which will really simplify this process. It has to do with Smart Collections. If you navigate over to the Collections panel, what you'll notice is when you open this up there is now a default collection called Video Files. Simply click on that and then you'll see the video files that you have in this particular Lightroom catalog.
In my case I have two video files. Well, let's say that I really like these files and so I want to add a star or flag or label rating to these images. So in this case I will simply press a number key like the 3 key to add a 3-star rating. Or on this one, I'll press the 2 key to add a 2-star rating. What you can then do is take advantage of Smart Collections so that you can create a smart collection which has multiple criteria, including the file type and also the particular type of rating or flag or label that you've added to that document. All right.
Well, here what we need to do is simply click on the plus icon over it the Collections panel and then choose Create Smart Collection. Here what we want sto do is go ahead and call this Video-keeper and next what I want to choose is from this pulldown menu File Type. And the File Type that I want is Video. So I'll select that from the pulldown menu. Next, click the plus icon. We also want to choose one with the rating that is equal or greater than let's say 3 stars because let's just pretended that that's what we defined as our ultimate keepers. Everything above 3 stars or 3 and above is great.
So I'll go ahead and click Create. You'll see that that will then show up here in our Smart Collection folder, which will always include any of the video files which has a 3 or greater star rating. So as you can see you can take advantage of one, the preset Smart Collection that comes preinstalled with Lightroom, or you can create your own Smart Collections based on the different criteria that you know will help you find and access those video files most easily.
