Here I want to simply highlight two new filtering criteria, which can really help us out. So let's navigate to the Library module and then press the Backslash key to open up our Library filter options. Next up we'll go ahead and click on the Metadata button, and then what we're going to do is click on one of the names for one of these different columns. And as we do that, say, for example, Date, we'll see we have different options. Well, in previous versions of Lightroom, we were able to filter based on Lens. Now this worked pretty well, except for those situations where you had different lenses made by different manufacturers, or you had different focal lengths, which had overlap.
So new to Lightroom 3 is a filtering criteria which helps with all of those issues, and here it is. If we click on this, in order to view the menu, you notice that right underneath Lens is Focal Length. What's fascinating about this is we can then choose a particular and exact Focal Length. For example, let's scroll down and say, we want to see the images that we captured exactly at 40 mm. So when we click on that, we then see those two photographs. Now another one of these criteria fields which really helps out has to do with shooting video.
Here, I'm going to take this back to Date for a moment, just to bring back all of my images. Now a lot of times when we're looking for video files, we have to scroll and scroll in order to find those. Well, here what we can do in the Metadata panel is we can click on this option, and then we can choose File Type. Now we have a number of different File Type options. Here I'll go ahead and click on Video. I'll then see that one video file that I have in this particular Catalog. And of course it's worth highlighting that if we turn this option off, in order to see all the types, by clicking on All File Types, we can also go to Attribute.
Now when we're in Attribute, we have this icon, which we've highlighted before, and it's the third icon here which looks like a vertical filmstrip. Well if we click on that icon that will also filter our entire catalog and just show us the video files.
