In this movie, I'd like to show you how to automate your color correction processes in Lightroom. And this comes in very, very handy if you have multiple images that are shot underneath the same lighting circumstances into which you're going to apply the same adjustments or corrections. So, let's dive in and see what we've got. We've got a variety of images here starting with this one and going down here to this one. We've assigned three stars to them. Let's go Cmd+' to create virtual copies. And, those three stars are applied to them, and then let's separate those so we're just working with those.
All right. So we've got starting and ending versions here, we'll see. And let's start with this one here. The way this would work, let's say we had multiple paintings that were being shot underneath the same lighting circumstance. And I don't want to have to color correct each one individually. Well, this is what you can do. You can take and shoot one of the paintings, have exactly the same lighting, and shoot it with a ten-step grayscale target. And, by the way, if you have not watched the product photography and/or the target based corrections that we talked about earlier in this course.
I would recommend that you go back and view those first and then you'll understand what I'm about to do here. I'm not trying teach the tools of color correction but the tools of automation this particular video. Okay. So to color correct this and adjust it, we're going to take our Neutralization tool, click on the midtone, boom, corrects the colors we talked about before. And then we're going to take our whites, and we're going to move the whites up to here. And we would fine-tune it using the RGB values as we did before. And then the blacks, we would fine-tune the blacks.
I might come underneath here, I might add a little bit of clarity. I might add a little bit of vibrance. Make those colors pop because we're trying to sell this puppy. I very rarely go above 25 on any of those. So we've made a variety of different adjustments. When I get this done, I'm going to come over here and I'm going to click plus underneath the Presets. I'm going to create a Preset that's going to capture all of those adjustments. And let's call this the Target Painting. And let's give this a date. Let's call this 04.15.14.
There we go. And then I'm going to check on everything that I want it to apply to the image. In this case, it's going to be just about everything that I did. And then they're going to want to click, Create. You notice that we got the target painting 041515. Now, what I can do is I can go to any image that was shot underneath that same circumstance and I'm going to use the whole painting here in this case. And just click on that and it applies all those adjustments and corrections to that same image. Works like a champ. Let's do just one more, make sure we understand the concept.
Here we have three figurines that are all shot underneath the same lighting circumstance, the same background, all that. So I'm going to do a color correction on this first one. Again, I'm going to use my Neutralization tool because I know that this background is neutral. And we talked about the product photography shoot, it's one of the key things that I do. So I can neutralize this image and then I'll come up and I will fine-tune my whites and my blacks. And again, I might add a little bit of clarity and maybe a bit of vibrance. If I've got color images in this one, vibrance is not an issue but I might go with a little bit of clarity.
Increased contrast and then, once again, I'm going to come underneath here, click, and we're going to call this Figurines and then put a date on it. I always like to put dates on these so that I know when I've actually done the correction. Because if you do a lot of these things, it's easy to kind of click on the wrong Preset. because you tend to name them the same thing. But if you've got dates on them, it helps sort them out. So I'll click Create. And then I can go to these other figurines. And let's go down and find that. All right, there's my figurines for, see, I've got some other ones here that I created back in January.
And then, Figurines, 04.15, boom. I just applied that to the image. Click on the other image. Figurines, 04.15. Color corrects it automatically, applies everything, does a perfect job. Why? because they've all been shot with the same background, same lighting conditions. And, the fact that they're similar kinds of figurines, have similar reflections and so forth, helps as well. So, by creating Presets, and capturing all those adjustments you've made, you can play them back on any image. So, the workflow thought here is that, set up similar backgrounds and lighting circumstances and shoot all the things that you would do similarly all at one time.
And then you can just do one correction and apply it to all the images and it really does work. So there, automating using Presets.
