Here I have a photograph of my sister who really is a beautiful, amazing, and artistic person. What I want to do is I want to Crop this image in order to make the image a little bit stronger. There's too much open space kind of surrounding her. So I will press the R key to access the Crop tool. Now what I am going to do I am going to select an aspect ratio like one-to-one, and I am interested in bringing this crop in, a much tighter crop. So again it's much more about her than it is necessarily about her environment. And at this juncture I will go ahead and double-click this in order to apply this crop.
All right, while while this image is interesting, I kind of find that the square format doesn't really work for me. So I'll repress the R key. Now what I want to do is unlock the aspect ratio. I want to create a little bit more of a freeform aspect ratio. Well I can do this by pressing the A key. When I do that, you notice that this icon changes here from being locked, press A once, press it again. It's now unlocked. And at this juncture what I can do is I can change this. I can go ahead and create perhaps a little bit more wide-open composition and bring it up a little bit in the bottom, a little bit more like a rectangle, showing some of the art and whatnot in the background there, and then double-click to apply.
Now let's say that I really like this aspect ratio, except I want to make it a little bit bigger. Here's what we will do. Press the R key, reactivate the Crop tool, then lock down by pressing the A, in other words we can lock this custom aspect ratio that we've created and when we click and drag it's going to be contingent upon whatever this ratio is that we created rather than one of these presets. So it's completely custom, but we do have the ability to lock this down. All right, let me try to find a nice place for this image here and then double-click to apply that.
All right, well there we have it, a great photograph of my sister Amanda, and along the way we have learned a few good things about the Crop tool as well.
