With the Instagram mobile app and photo-sharing service, you can use your Android or iOS device to snap a photo, apply creative filter effects, and then share it with millions of Instagram users—and on Facebook and Twitter, too. In this course, Justin Seeley details the ins and outs of the Instagram app and sharing service. The course contains tips on shooting photos using the Instagram app and also describes how to edit and enhance photos taken with Instagram or imported from another app.
Justin then details the process of posting photos to Instagram and adding descriptive tags, captions, and location information. The final chapter offers insights on building a community of followers and on enhancing your Instagram experience with additional apps and services.
If you're new to Instagram when you first launch the application you have the ability to register for an account. As you can see here it says that it's fast, free, and also fun. When you click the Register button it takes you to this screen here where you're able to fill out your username, a password, and also utilize things like your Facebook profile to fill out this information as well. If you wish to add a photo of yourself tap the Photo button and then you can either import it from Facebook, take a photo, or choose from your Library. Once you've chosen a photo, it pops up right there on the left-hand side and then you can simply hit Done.
It's going to prompt you and ask you if this is correct with your email address, then you say Yes. It's then going to take you to find your Facebook friends. If you would like to find your Facebook friends to gather some information about people that you might want to follow on Instagram, you can choose to find your Facebook friends. If not, just choose Skip. It will come up and ask you, "Are you sure? Instagram is more fun when you follow your friends and see their photos." If you want to go ahead and skip this just click Yes, Skip or if not you can click Cancel and go through the process. You can also find friends on Instagram by utilizing your contact information.
This allows Instagram to actually have access to the contacts on your mobile device. Some people aren't comfortable with this and if you are not, you can simply hit Skip and go to the next screen. Confirm that you'd like to skip and then keep going. Once you do that it takes you to a Suggested section on Instagram. This is where you can follow things that might interest you. So flick through some of the photos. If something looks cool just click Follow and you'll be able to follow that person and their photo posts on Instagram. Once you've finished, hit Done in the top right corner and it takes you to the Instagram home screen.
Depending on whether or not this is your first time using the Instagram application you may see a pop-up asking you to enable something called Push Notifications. If you want Instagram to push notify you when things happen-- like when people like things or follow you-- then you can go ahead and enable this. If not, you can choose not to allow.
