With the Instagram mobile app and photo-sharing service, you can use your Android or iOS device to snap a photo, apply creative filter effects, and then share it with millions of Instagram users—and on Facebook and Twitter, too. In this course, Justin Seeley details the ins and outs of the Instagram app and sharing service. The course contains tips on shooting photos using the Instagram app and also describes how to edit and enhance photos taken with Instagram or imported from another app.
Justin then details the process of posting photos to Instagram and adding descriptive tags, captions, and location information. The final chapter offers insights on building a community of followers and on enhancing your Instagram experience with additional apps and services.
Social media is becoming increasingly centered around location these days and no service has that market cornered more than Foursquare does. When I am out eating I love sharing photos of the food that I am eating, and also checking into the location via Foursquare. Many places run deals based on your checking in at their place, whether that be a discount or even a free piece of pie. With Instagram I can actually share photos while I am out to eat and simultaneously check into that place via Foursquare as well. That's awesome because I don't want to switch between two different apps; after all, I have pie I need to eat.
Once I take the shot of the food and process it, I can tap the Location Info section on my Instagram sharing screen and choose a place to check in via Foursquare. Then all I have to do is tell Instagram to post this location info to Foursquare and once I have authorized my Foursquare account using my username and password, I will check to make sure Foursquare is highlighted blue, type out a quick description for my photo, and share it. Instagram then publishes the photo with that location data and it also transmits that data to Foursquare and allows me to check in at that place.
Once that's done I can finally enjoy my pie.
