And in this video workshop, I'll be walking you through the new features of Adobe InDesign CS5.5 So with this release of InDesign CS5.5, a lot of people are going to be asking the question, why. Well to answer that question, we need to take a look at the history of Adobe InDesign. Adobe InDesign 1.0 was released in 1999, and it was the first iteration of the product.

Why 5.5?

Hi. My name is Chad Chileas.

In successive years, they released Version 2.0, and of course followed by Version 3.0. Now version 3.0 was somewhat unique because it was also referred to as CS. And that's because InDesign 3.0 was bundled with the Creative Suite line of products that included other Adobe applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and others. Depending on the version that you purchased. After that they kept bundling InDesign with each version of the Creative Suite line of products. So as CS2, CS3, CS4, and CS5 were released the version of InDesign kept growing along with each version of the Creative Suite that was released. Now why am I showing you this? Well, it's important to understand after version 1.0 was released there was actually a mid-release or dot release of the product, which was actually called InDesign 1.5. InDesign 1.5 was released because InDesign 1.0, being a new product, was a bit buggy and there were several fixes that needed to occur before InDesign 2.0 was ready.

A similar thing has happened with InDesign CS 5.5, which is actually InDesign 7.5. InDesign CS 5.5 was created to meet the needs of the growing digital publishing trend. The creation of ePubs has grown quite rapidly in recent years and the need for a product that can effectively create these ePub documents from existing print layouts is in high demand. This is why Adobe decided to release InDesign CS 5.5 in order to meet those needs.

Adobe InDesign CS5.5 offers several new features designed to make it a whole lot easier to create layouts for digital media that can be read on a computer, an iPhone, an iPad, as well as other digital devices. Improved ePub creation this has been significantly improved and simplified in InDesign CS5.5. Features added in InDesign CS5.5 can cut the production time for creating ePubs significantly.

These ePub files can be viewed on your computer, an iPad, a Nook. Other tablet devices and even mobile devices. Improved XHTML Export is very much improved in CS5.5. Now we have more control over the XHTML code that is exported, giving you more options and more control over the appearance and structure of the XHTML output for the web. Improved creation of accessible PDF files.

Accessible PDF files are designed to make it easier for people with visual impairments to read a PDF document using assistive devices. In previous versions of InDesign this was possible, but you had to jump through a lot of hoops to achieve what can now be done quite easy in InDesign CS5.5. As well as tools that allow you to create documents for tablet devices such as the Ipad and droid. So, as you can see, there are a lot of features that have been added. They're really focused on digital media.

And InDesign CS5.5 was designed to meet those needs and to allow you to export to these various digital formats.
